i had an absolute shit day at work and my partner offered to get takeout for valentine’s day and asked what i wanted and i said thai with no other instructions

in addition to my usual order (chicken pad thai) she also got me chicken satay skewers (which i love) without me needing to ask (i was going to ask but i forgot) and it’s kind of stupid but i felt really seen and loved.

then we each took turns ranting about work before taking a half hour to pick a movie before settling on “the princess diaries” (which neither of us had seen since childhood)

stomach full of good food, woman i love holding my hand, watching a low-stakes rom-com. life is good sometimes.

I thought about them as two guys who had grown up together in this really deep, intense way, because they’re kind of orphans. They come from these really well to do families who have shunted them off to a tennis boarding school to be raised by coaches. So they’ve grown up together in locker rooms, and dorm rooms, and on the court, they’ve gone through puberty together, they’ve had crushes on the same girls, they’ve gone through all of the things boys go through growing up and they’ve done it with each other.
