Well, that happened...
Keeping in line with how the last 8 or so years of my life have gone, I started ramping up to get involved in the community again and almost immediately became incapacitated by health issues for 9 months. The good news is that I had surgery 2 weeks ago and it may have fixed a lot of things (at the very least it should have fixed the more recent problems). Here's hoping I become more functional once I'm out of recovery! I really miss this corner of the internet, and the progress the community has made since I was last active is incredible. There's so much more going on and it seems like people can actually talk freely about stuff without the crushing amount of gatekeeping and outside mockery that used to be a constant.
#I am very tired and on a limited soft food diet for up to 6 weeks until I can swallow normally again but my diaphragm has stopped spasming!!#turns out if your stomach is in there you can't breathe properly. so now that's back where it belongs and also a different shape#did they approve surgery because of the spasms you ask? of course not. they had to prove I had severe unmanageable acid reflux first#my surgeon literally went 'I am not sure the diaphragm spasms are related' MY DUDE THERES AN ORGAN IN THERE OF COURSE THEY ARE#anyway hiatal hernias are a bitch don't get one#personal

I just found the Nilfgaardian camp in southeast Velen and I’m losing it? It’s got such a distinct and ominous vibe... this is so cool.
#it's just wild because it feels like an early-game type of place from the associated quest difficulty but it's so far from everything#also there's a follow up on that lady from white orchard i am so glad! i was wondering about that#god though every time i get back to wild hunt i get nostalgic for last summer when i first got into the witcher#something about the world is so fascinating to me and geralt is such an interesting character#he's got the monster-being-human appeal but also he's just a Guy?#he's like a normal human tinged with monstrosity and more heroism than he ought to have#and it's so... interesting#he isn't a dark broody character and while i think i limited him to his angst potential earlier he's such a complex fellow#i know fate is one of the big themes in the witcher but he honestly feels... like his role as a hero comes from his own internal code#and not fate... like he's just a normal dude with a strong moral code in my brain i don't know#but he really doesn't fit into any one archetype and i love that#geralt of rivia#geralt#wild hunt#the witcher#dante dicit#like guh i wanna reread the short stories again

I hate how sleep and fatigue seem like they should correlate and yet they don’t.
I’ve been sleeping more recently (averaging about 90min more than usual) and you might think “oh, that means you’re less fatigued right?” Which would be a false assumption. Because just because I’m sleeping longer doesn’t mean I’m not waking up more during the night (from pain, or nausea, or palpitations or bladder urgency… or all of them at once), or getting more of the good stuff (rem and deep sleep) according to my Fitbit. Today I woke early and haven’t been able to get back to sleep at all. And yet I’m still so fatigued. And like yes I’ve I been diagnosed with mild positional sleep apnoea (which I’m managing) and a slight sleep latency but I was told unequivocally by the sleep doc that the severity and patterning of my fatigue was not explained by these findings. The only night I’ve slept through in the last fortnight or so is the night I took my strong pain meds for intractable TMJ pain. Which makes me think that pain is an element. But probably not the whole picture.
I try to figure out if it’s physical stuff, I try to balance probabilities if it’s depression (it’s been a rough couple of months when I think about it), is something else going wrong with me? Or is this just my normal, a result of all my various conditions.
At some point I think I need to accept that my fatigue is chronic, that I do experience some sort of PEM, and I probably need to pursue me/cfs with my GP again. She was the one who brought it up with me last year, but it fell to the wayside a bit with the hEDS and bladder/bowel stuff that took over last year. But even though I feel like I’ve too much energy to have me/cfs, I do experience the malaise and flu-like symptoms when I overdo it. And overdoing it can look different from week to week. I don’t know.
#the ups and downs of chronic illness#chronic fatigue#chronic pain#gastrointestinal fuckery#acid reflux (derogatory)#mentally not vibing right now#along with a spate of falls and injuries that have even my friends concerned enough to start reccomending mobility aids#and my chronic migraines chronic migraine-ing#it’s a bit hard at the minute#a lot of my internalised ableism is at the forefront right now#a win was I did get a parking permit! because of the EDS i qualify for a permanent one which def tripped the dude up#the dude who processed my permit that is#I like the permit as it’s very good for campus (which is where I need it most) but tbh I don’t use it much elsewhere if I can help it#only time I used it off campus was at a social event where parking was pretty busy and I did not have the energy to walk very far#and that was very irritating because someone parked me in by illegally parking over the stripped keep clear bit#had to clamber over the passenger side#exactly what I want to do after I’ve already pushed myself to the limit somewhat by doing a social thing after a full day of classes/study#thesis-ing is going well#it’s a very different pace of work and study#but I love my topic and everyone I talk to in my faculty are also hyped and being really nice#honestly academics can be really great sometimes#also my Microsoft word game is leveling up#I am never going to be normal about formatting documents again

#aaaand this is why i've applied for extra help through disability for household chores#my mother threw a tantrum bc i ran out of clothes and needed to do a laundry#but bc i cannot carry the heavy bin up 2 flights of stairs and thru an extremely heavy door#that means she had to do it#so she just threw a bunch of shit in that i DID NOT want in there#and she shrunk and ruined my brand new 'Trans & Tired' t-shirt that cost me $35#and i just looked it up and its gonna cost me nearly $48 to ship a new one to myself. for a tshirt. what the fucK dude#i am. So unamused#i do not have 50 bucks lying around for a fuckin shirt#and theres no chance in hell she'll offer to help w the cost like i woulda done if the situation was flipped#ughhhh#sorry i know this is such a minor problem comparatively but like.#a) she does this shit all the time out of spite and then throws her hands up when it results in consequences like this#b) that shirt was something i was saving up for for ages and qent to like 3 different markets in the hopes of getting in my size#bc its a small business owner and its limited quantities#c) this is once again why i wanna shake her by the shouldera when she complains that i requested outside assistance#this is why !!!#bc u refuse to help me with things and then when its unavoidable and u have to u throw a fit and end up ruining my clothes#or breaking my stuff or making the apartment inaccessible to me#and u rant and rave about having to do it for ages#only to then turn around and shout at me for trying to help w that by getting someone else in to assist me w laundry / cleaning etc#my guy#if i look up the word hypocrite on urban dictionary its just gonna be a picture of your face#*went *shoulders no i wont fix my typos im too annoyed to care#she knew that shirt was not to go in the laundry. we discussed it several times. but she got mad and put it in anyway#and now i have no shirt. cooool beans. this is why i cant have nice things#i am aware this is a very minimal problem in the grand scheme of things. but i was so excited to wear that shirt to an event next weekend#i rly was. but nooooope

It's after 9pm, and I know I shouldn't be listening to my emotions right now. I don't think goyim properly understand the fear and change that the wave of antisemitism currently taking place in the wake of the October 7th massacre has induced in the Jewish community.
In a wide-lens view, Jews have become a 1000% more wary and introspective. This isn't limited to diaspora Jews--the headlines pouring out of Israel until October 7th have been of division, polarization, and conflict. Conflict over the 2018 Nation-State Law. Over Bibi's premiership. Over the judicial reform laws. Over the Orthodox Rabbinate. Over this. Over that.
But Israeli society is more unified than ever right now. The judicial reform laws were shelved shortly after the war began and the protests ended on October 8th. Some of it is the rally around the flag effect, yes, and will probably fade as time passes--politics never stops--but the era of Israelis being at one another's throats? Of forgetting that we are all one people and we are all under attack? Gone. It died on October 7th.
In the Diaspora, Jews are once again asking themselves the question--will I need to flee? Guys, a fifth of Gen Z--my generation, that I attend university with--believes the Holocaust was a myth. Two thirds of them think Jews are oppressors. That's terrifying. And the reason we don't take comfort in people saying, 'They're kids with no political power.' is that that won't be true forever. Today's slacktivists who casually say that Israel has no right to exist are tomorrows lawmakers. They will grow up and set policy.
We don't know if they'll grow out of it. I pray to HaShem that they will, but how do I know if they will?
And that's tomorrow's world. Today's world is already bad enough. I don't wear my Star of David necklace to the self-defense classes I've started taking because being surrounded by burly dudes learning how to fight people better isn't a great place to potentially learn that I'm surrounded by antisemites.
Jews--in the year 2024--are being doxxed, seen their homes and synagogues vandalized and threatened, walk past Palestine protests screaming for the death of Zionists, and antisemitism has increased in the United States alone by more than 400%. It's worse elsewhere--Turkish shop owners have been barring Jews from their stores and France has seen antisemitic incidents increase by 1000%. Jews have been leaving social media sites like Tumblr, Reddit, Tik Tok, and Twitter in droves, chased away by the constant, unceasing stream of anti-Jewish hate.
Gentiles need to understand that their words and actions have very real consequences. Jews are not dumb. We're not imagining things. We aren't 'getting our just desserts'. Our fears are grounded not only by historical context but by our current, everyday, lived realities. To gentiles, reading 'antisemitism has gone up by x percent' is a factoid. To us, it is a serious threat and a deep concern.
