Since we see him every now and then, what is Ryan like in Casa Tidmouth?

ryan works at the harwick branchline with daisy. in the secret of the lost treasure and misty island rescue arcs, ryan is the bystander to thomas' adventures that lead up to his fight with sailor john and skiff, eventually adding to the number of supporting characters that got dragged into both the mystery surrounding the gold dust and the mess thomas has left on sodor. after sailor john got arrested and thomas went missing, ryan helped thomas' friends look for his whereabouts while also being the key witness to sailor john's mad ramblings about "lady of the legend" and his motives for almost blowing up the island. ryan never asked for any of this but because he likes thomas and knows info that other people don't, he just HAS to step in

outside of the plot-heavy stuff, ryan's one of the kinder sudrian railway workers compared to his weirdo coworkers. he considers daisy and thomas to be his closest friends despite the former having the tendency to push her workloads onto him in the past and the latter being a bit standoffish despite ryan's attempts at hospitality.

ryan's extended family, on the other hand...

ryan is connected to the gresleys through his mother. his mother is the daughter of joseph gresley I (the gresleys’ grandfather), so he’s the cousin of gordon, scott, spencer, and mallard. he doesn’t talk to his cousins often ever since he’s a teenager because they’re nutjobs who mostly care about themselves and ryan has self-respect and values his sanity

unlike most his cousins who has the power of hater-ism coursing through their veins, ryan is a perfectly normal man who cares about his friends. he talks about his issues directly instead of letting it simmer. he sometimes have drinks with daisy and thomas after work. he used to have trouble articulating his more “negative” feelings and driving his opinion, but he’s doing better lately. he wants to maintain peace by being kind to others, which makes him prone to being dragged into any weird business his cousins have whenever they have the chance.

whenever holiday season is around the corner, ryan knows exactly what to expect. scott, his most famous cousin, the only one who still GAF about tightening what’s left of the gresleys together, will ask him to come over for dinner with his cousins (his charisma stat is maxed out). ryan can’t refuse because scott will pull excuses like “it’s just once a year” or “there's a dog” and ryan doesn’t have anything else to do. the family party will start off normal, then when mallard brings out the wine (provocateur!!!) things go south. gordon and spencer would badmouth each other about each other's secrets/fails, they get into a fight, scott tries to calm them down, ryan frowns at the disinterested mallard, sighs, goes outside to the nearest telephone booth to call daisy and ask her to pick him up. at this point it’s comical

ryan’s really the opposite of his cousins, from clothing to backstory. when designing him, I took the key components of his cousins’ designs and invert them. his cousins dress lavishly – big coats and suits, but ryan just rolls up his sleeves and dons a vest. his cousins’ haistyles are combed back, gelled, etc, while ryan’s hair goes everywhere (parted bangs show hairline). most of his cousins have horrific trauma related to death and loss from their childhood, while ryan’s just a city boy who grew up with nothing eventful in his life (except attending his cousins’ funerals). he doesn’t even inherit the gresley surname and is oblivious to most of the gossips surrounding or is inside the gresley family.

ryan is his own person who gets thrown around like a volleyball a lot, but he still has a good heart. one can consider ryan to be what any of his cousins would’ve ended up like if they had normal upbringings. who am I kidding? lol

Theme Park AU:

AM is only depicted through silhouette and a voice on a loudspeaker. He owns the park and has for over 50 years. Ted is a recent hire, working as a janitor. Ellen works the ticket booth, but often helps Benny with repairs after hours. Benny is a handyman, keeping the rides in working order along with the other amenities. Gorrister runs one of the food stalls, often gossiping with Benny and Ellen during their breaks. Nimdok runs one of the carnival games, a ring toss.

Obligatory Coffee Shop AU:

AM is an unpleasant regular. Despite his attitude, Ted looks forward to his daily visits. Not because he likes AM, but because he finds their arguments entertaining. AM owns a dive bar down the street, visiting before opening his shop. Ted is a charming barista, regularly noted as a customer favorite. He can be a bit overbearing. Ellen owns the repair shop next door, Gorrister being one of her employees. Both of them prefer taking their coffee to go. Nimdok is a doctor at a local hospital. He visits at odd hours, often drifting off until his pager goes off and he has to hurry back.

What's going on with Aibo town? Is it true that turtle reported it? Any idea about this? Why would🐢 do it?

OK, normally I would delete the fan war-related questions I got about this because no one needs that toxic BS, especially on New year's, but I'm making an exception here.

I am only going to answer this because I'm alarmed by how credulous some people are being and I feel the need to wake up some minds.

Disclaimer: This response is for everyone who asked, not just you, Anon. Nothing is specifically directed at you.

Background

MTJJ had erected a whole entire little town of structures, booths, vendors, decorations and lighting, etc. outside the venue for the NYE event that they were calling 'iBo Town'. The original plan was (allegedly) that it would be up for two days, but after the first day it was dismantled and removed.

There are all kinds of rumors spreading around about how/why that happened, and it's all just a bunch of fanwar BS.

Primary rumors:

Turtles reported it, so it was removed.

XFX reported it, so it was removed.

Evidence? Pretty thin in both cases, although there are a few people on Weibo who claimed to have reported it, including someone MTJJ are claiming was a turtle, and some XFX as well.

OK, critical thinking 101

Some questions to consider:

When someone says something vicious online, is it always true, or do people often say things just to be hurtful?

How is credit/blame allocated in life? Do the people who try to take credit for something often do so falsely? Do the people who try to assign blame always do so fairly?

If XFX and/or BXG claim they reported the town, does that mean they actually did?

If MTJJ claim that XFX and/or BXG reported the town, does that mean they actually did?

If XFX and/or BXG reported the town and the town came down, does that really mean that one thing led to the other, or are there other possible reasons such a town might need to be dismantled?

Do people - particularly in China - have a tendency to try to save face? What lengths would a fandom go to save face if they had to deal with the embarrassment of having their town taken down earlier than they had planned, at such a high profile event where the world was watching?

How much direct knowledge do we have about the permissions, permits, etc. MTJJ had enabling them to erect the town, and if permission was granted, at what level did that permission happen (i.e. is it possible someone granting permission didn't follow all the proper protocol when doing so, didn't have the authority to make such a call and/or didn't get proper clearance from the higher ups)?

If MTJJ had all the proper permits and had all their legal ducks in a row and had the permission of the relevant authorities to have their town there, how likely would it be that any random hater could just call in and shut it all down?

Is it possible they had permits but for some reason those permits failed to accurately cover both days? Is it possible they had permits covering both days but something personal came up requiring the permit holder to leave early? Is it possible they had permits for the structures but failed to get permission for the electricity they were using? Is it possible businesses in the area complained and demanded removal? Is it possible a grandmother living nearby complained about the noise or the green light keeping her awake? Is it possible someone involved in organizing the town broke some terms of their permit contract? Is it possible those running the town realized a second day would be boring/ill-attended? Is it possible the people running the town were cold and uncomfortable and didn't have adequate access to bathroom facilities? Etc. etc. Possibilities = endless.

Which narrative plays better with the sympathies of the audience, galvanizes fandom team building and saves face better: "MTJJ's town was taken down due to safety/security/permit concerns" (implying they hadn't properly organized things at best, were endangering others at worst) or "MTJJ had permission to build this town and it was revoked by the authorities for some unknown/ambiguous/bureaucratic reason" (implying that they are powerless and impotent as a fandom to win any fight to keep it up) or "MTJJ committed to running the town for two days but changed their minds" (implying they are unreliable and totally fine with letting fans down or going back on their word) or "MTJJ had done all this beautiful fan support and haters reported it to get it taken down!!" (implying they are a bunch of sweet, selfless, supportive good people being horribly wronged by evil people who coincidentally happen to be their sworn enemies)?

How truly consequential is any of this? Will we remember it a week from now without attacks by MTJJ jarring our memories?

I could go on like this for another hour or more. There are dozens and dozens of questions I would ask myself before drawing any conclusions about this stuff.

If you believe everything that fans say - especially about their sworn enemies/rivals - I don't know how to help you, Anons, except to suggest you go through a thorough thought process such as the one above before putting on your hair shirts.

As for why someone would report a fan support initiative... Young Grasshopper... 😅

Fan wars are a Thing. A HUGE thing. There have been fistfights at events, people destroying each other's property, people getting arrested, people shutting down the charitable activities of other fans entirely out of fandom hate. People are capable of hateful, hateful things, and fandom can make people behave in crazy ways. No group is totally innocent or immune.

Ultimately we will never know what happened. Everyone involved - on all sides - has incentive to misrepresent things. Regardless of what really happened, the actions of a few individuals should never characterize a group numbering in the millions. Whether this happened because of the actions (or inaction) of BXG, XFX or MTJJ, the 'blame' lies with those individuals, not with the entire group.

Theory of Love Rewatch Ep 4 Stray Thoughts

I have been specifically asked about continuing, so thank @twig-tea, @lurkingshan, and @waitmyturtles for bugging me to continue.

Last time, Two found out that Third has a crush on Khai and decided to be a bro about it and help. His brilliant plan is to have Third lie about having no money so he can move in with Khai. Cohabitation was a mixed bag. Third still can't declare himself to Khai, and Khai was a total dick about kicking Third out of the apartment for the whole night at one point. Khai came through for Third sorta with the next girl by not kicking him out and then later telling Prigkhing's character to fuck off. He also had Third's mug prepared. Mike's character's romance also began with some cute flirting over movies. I also want to note that these boys are filthy, and a single Ikea date won't make me forget.

A lot of energy went into this couch scene deciding what to do with their booth. I suspect it was meant to reground us in the masculine friendship.

See, and this is where we get into the primary problem with players. It's fine to have casual sex with people who know what the game is, but it's the playing with people's feelings just to prove you can that bothers me. I had clearly repressed this plot information because this is the exact kind of shit that happened to me and I'm still salty about it 14 years later. It was cruel then and it still hurts now.

I couldn't exactly remember why I didn't like Khai. I wondered if I had also gotten caught up in sex shaming him like Turtles believes Khai haters do. No, it was this shit. Third is his fucking best friend and he couldn't just say it. It's so fucking mean.

post-season update from the blog

hi everyone! sorry its been a Minute since i posted anything. the downside of working in motorsport is it gets BUSY very fast and it gets hard to keep up with everything else, including this blog. thought i would share a couple of things that happened/are happening that the motorsport fans of tumblr would appreciate.

first, thanks to everyone who's stuck by and stayed around despite me not posting anything (i KNOW i KNOW sorry for no content this season) and big thanks to everyone who has hopped in the indyblr discord this season! i appreciate all of u :) sending you big hugs

second, i wrapped up my first full year in motorsports (can you believe its only been a year, i feel like i've aged 10 years) and am transitioning away from the arca menards series. its been fun but i have another opportunity awaiting me. we had a lot of ups and downs, but the real fun was the friends and experiences we made along the way. not saying where i'm going yet but it'll be cool and im excited

third, if you didn't hear the news, there has officially been an openly lgbtq+ crew chief in a nascar-sanctioned series. that would be ME MOTHERFUCKERS!! thanks to my boss for the opportunity to do something wild in the last race of the season and to nascar: no takesies backsies >:) . we went from 17th to 12th and got the hard charger award. my driver also made history as the only driver to race in 6 decades and got his 300th start so yknow thats kinda cool. the full shore lunch 200 at toledo is available RIGHT HERE (please mind the fs1 comm booth i know they're bad) if you wanna watch. it would also be cool if you would check out the team's highlight reel and give it some views. hopefully not the last time i'll be on the stand so stay tuned! if you had dreams of being the first one in nascar sorry :( but you can still be the first truck series crew chief, xfinity series crew chief, or even cup series crew chief. the door is open now, follow your dreams!

i won't promise to keep the indycar portion of this blog updated next season because i have no idea what my schedule will allow for, but you should definitely join the indyblr discord server if you haven't already, some great folks with some excellent blogs in there! its a fun time highly recommend.

popular or unpopular opinion (i haven't really been in the tag in the past twenty days or so due to lack of time), i want to lay out my stance as regards taylor zakhar perez playing alex.

(yes, i just remembered i never actually talked about it here, lol)

disclaimer: i won't talk about the movie in general. i did not really enjoy it (see: posts i have reblogged for the reasons why), and i really do not want to come across as a hater. because i am not a "hater" in that sense. i was just... disappointed by certain things (again, see reblogged posts in my blog).

what i wasn't disappointed so much by, though, was the actors' performance given the script they had to follow.

now, to put it briefly, alex is a very dear character to me as a person, and the fact that i can see parts of me in him, parts of him in me is not the only reason why. he has been dear to me ever since i first read the book two years ago for a long list of reasons. alex is, in my very humble, non-expert, very bookworm-y opinion, one of the most realistically written characters in modern literature. he is so human it hurts sometimes, flawed, vulnerable. so, i am quite oddly one who hasn't been a part of a fandom might think, sort of protective over him. therefore, my surprise when i read that the (excuse me for saying that, i haven't thought of him this way since i was, like, fourteen) guy from the kissing booth loved agcd that much.

forgive me for being unable to recall which interview it was (it's probably somewhere around the tag), but i actually felt very emotional while i was reading the way he talked about alex, and i realised how much he cares about this movie, beginning from the fact that he read the book seven times. he took alex very seriously and that's extremely rare to happen if you're just entering a fictional world, at least in my experience.

i am not an expert, again, or a part of the industry in general- i just wanted to say that personally, being a tiny molecule of this fandom's organism, i am thankful as regards his respect and love towards alex claremont-diaz. he portrayed him very well, at least in terms of the script available and how they cut (more daringly, butchered) significant fragments of alex's personality as a character.

Today I went to a fun vintage stuff flea market thing! I dug through bins at one booth and got a hilarious Fox Mulder action figure and a cute little star wars toy, you pull a tab and it switches between Baby Anakin and... Anakin as he's shown in the original Return of the Jedi. Before all the updates. I thought that was super cool. Then I found an R2D2 hat.

I go up to buy stuff from the guy, and we laugh about Star Wars for a second. Then he noticed my jacket. I was wearing my Chandrila Starline jacket. It doesn't say "galactic starcruiser" on it because it was from the gift shop on the ship. He sees it, his eyes go wide, and he asks, "You-- you went on the cruise??"

After Jenny Nicholson's nightmare video and getting harassed for days by her rabid weirdo fans, I have to get fucking apprehensive now when people ask me about the Starcruiser. But, it turns out that as usual, all the weirdo haters are freaks who don't go outside, and people who actually go outside are interested in having genuine conversations about a Cool Thing with me.

The guy was so excited and wanted to hear about it. He said it looked SO cool and he was SO bummed out that he didn't get a chance to go. I told him about how great my experience was and he was VISIBLY excited. I told him I was also really upset that so many people wanted to go but weren't able to before it closed.

And he said something to me that so many people say when they see how passionate I am about it and what a great time I had.

"I'm so glad you were able to go and that you had a great time."

I'm going to Halcy-Con later this year and I'm really excited. My sister has been WAY more involved in the Starcruiser "fandom" than me, because I don't really get involved in a lot of active "Fandom" stuff anymore because I just don't have the energy, and I can't really contribute anything of substance which I'm extremely self-conscious about. But I'm going to be meeting a twitter friend IRL at the con (we met bc of Starcruiser), and I'm gonna be able to see lots of cool people who love this Cool Thing just like I do. It'll be great.

“did they square up in the kitchen” yes. they’re insane. on a more meta note izuru and nagito’s roles in the fic were decided years before i watched dr3 or had any real understanding of his character bc sdr2 leaves much to be desired. same with nagito’s dynamic with him. my understanding of his character Now makes no real difference though; izuru has always served a specific purpose that i think i’ve got down pat, whether or not i think Actual Canon Izuru Kamukura would jump nagito komaeda, or vice versa. po!nagito is a massive hater with very few productive outlets (at camp most of the time, tries very hard not to lash out at the kids and feels very bad when he does) for his anger. that motherfucker is wound TIGHT, and po!izuru has caused his husband to suffer endlessly, so when given the chance nagito beats his ass (as much as is possible given the barrier’s “no physical harm from the gods” protections. it’s mostly a lot of punch-kick-hitting-hairpulling type shit. also why izuru is NOT allowed to leave camp <3).

and the camp ‘documentary’ was a creative vision in the editing booth primarily by the duo of kokichi/miu (oh boy). they also bring in kaede/kiibo respectively sometimes but its mostly the brainchild of the most annoying motherfuckers at camp.

Cody was never interested in romance. Not his brothers who would trip and fall over their feet for someone else. Not like Bly who wouldn't shut up about his Jedi or Colt who wouldn't shut up about his either. Romance just wasn't for him.

That only lasted until he exchanged numbers with a waitress at 79's. Maybe romance was more interesting than Cody thought.

A/N: I never really thought about giving Cody a partner. He really wasn't supposed to have one, but I was playing sims and gave him a friend to keep him company. Let's just say things spiraled from there. Not sure if I should do a part two. Let me know what y'all think. Enjoy!

"Dude, you need to try going on a date," Bly said as they sat down in a booth at 79's. "You need to try it. It's the best."

Cody rolled his eyes. "I'm not going on a date. I don't do romance. You guys know that."

"But have you ever actually gone on a date?"

"I have hookups."

"That is not the same thing," Bly sighed. "Come on, even Fox goes on dates."

"I do not!" Fox said indignantly. "I don't go on dates either."

"What exactly do you call your little cuddle sessions at Dex's with that Togruta of yours then?"

Fox blushed and mumbled something about professional meetings.

Cody shook his head and waved over a pretty waitress. "I'm too sober for you idiots. I'll take a whiskey, the red one wants a tequila, and the yellow one wants that peach margarita thing."

The waitress smiled and nodded. She had dark brown hair pulled back into a high ponytail and bright purple eyes. If Cody had a type, she would be it. "Of course. Anything else for you?"

"The biggest bucket of fries you can bring me."

"Of course! I'll be right back with that." She walked back through the crowd, hips swaying to the music.

"See, why don't you ask her out?" Bly waved a hand in the direction the waitress had disappeared in. "She was cute."

Cody rolled his eyes and leaned back in the booth. "She's pretty, but why would I go through the effort to ask her on a date? I don't spend that much time on Corsucant."

"Yeah but you could have someone to come back to when you're on leave. And we'd leave you alone."

"You leave Gree alone."

"Gree is aromantic. You are not. Come on, Cody. What's the harm in asking a pretty girl on a date?"

There really wasn't any harm in it besides the teasing he'd get from his brothers about the girl. He just didn't see the point in asking a girl out then taking her on dates and building up feelings only to leave again in a few weeks. It just wasn't worth it.

Besides, romance wasn't his thing.

"She could like me and get attached only for me to leave her right when things are getting good. You don't even know if she likes men or clones at all. Why should I bother?"

Bly shrugged. "Neyo manages with his bae. Dude, she works in a clone bar. I don't think she's a hater. I don't know if she likes men, but you won't find out until you ask."

"Maybe you should drop it, Bly. Cody doesn't have the guts to ask a girl out." Fox grinned at him. "He's too scared."

Cody glared at him. "I am not too scared of asking a girl out."

"Yes you are. Commander Scaredy Tooka can't admit he thinks a girl is cute or ask for her number."

He smacked Fox upside the head and glared at him. "I am not a scaredy tooka. I think she's very pretty and definitely my type. I could get her number if I asked."

"Do it coward. You won't."

Cody didn't have time to respond before the waitress returned with their drinks and his fries. She set them down with another smile before stepping back. "Anything else I can get you?"

"Your number would be nice," Cody said before he could regret it. Her eyes were really pretty. "And your name?"

A pink flush spread across the waitress's face as she pulled out her notepad and scribbled something on it. "Macari. You can um, call me later. Bye." She set the paper on the table and scurried away.

Cody took the paper and held it up, smirking at his brothers' shocked faces. "Told you I could do it."

A grin spread slowly across Bly's face. "Now let's see if you have the balls to call her later."

"Oh shut up."

Hours later as Cody laid in his bunk, he pulled out the small paper and read the number. It wouldn't take much effort to enter it into his comm and send a text. All he had to do was hit a few buttons.

But something held him back. An odd, nervous energy settled over him as he considered the paper. It was one thing to do something to make his brothers shut up, but it was an entirely different thing to do it in the quiet of his room.

Cody shook his head and sighed. "I'm being ridiculous. It's just a number."

Before he could reconsider, he grabbed his comm and entered the number. After another moment of hesitation, he sent a short text.

Cody: hey this is the commander from the bar. My name is Cody

A chirp came a few minutes later.

M: hi! i'm macari. nice to meet you cody

He hesitated again before sending his next message. This was harder than he'd expected it to be.

Cody: are you interested in a date?

M: my shift ends at eight tomorrow. meet you at 79s?

Cody: Sure. See you then

M: see you then cutie ;)

He set his comm on his nightstand and smirked. That would show Bly and Fox. He could ask a girl on a date.

Maybe it wouldn't be so bad after all.

I am eventually. I had some people throw a hissy fit in a facebook group when I announced the stream so I'm just going to let that cool down. Plus I need to edit it. Right now the boot is 13 files and I want to make it into 2: one for act1 and one for act2. If anyone has some software recommendations I'll take them. I found one I like but to get it without the watermark it'll be $25 for the software.

Truthfully I know very little about him but I am very sick of the constant narrative that he's Lou Nanne's grandson and he's "returned home" being shoved down my throat. I love Lou Nanne. He's a Minnesota treasure. I HATE when he's in the booth though.

Basically I'm being a hater with no "solid" reason to be a hater outside of "vibes". I acknowledge this is a petty one-sided beef.
