HONKAI STAR RAIL - VERSE INFO
The product of human experimentation, to bring forth a man-made Aeon. Their hopes were to force this Aeon to become the new Abundance, so that he could grant their wish of immortality and long-lasting life. However, it only ended in blood.
When he first awakened, birthed from the consciousness of the poor soul they used as fodder for this experimentation, he only knew the sadness and rage that the former owner of the body had. His first breaths were screams of anguish and agony, his first movements were to kill those who had created him.
His first years of life were in solidarity in the Xianzhou Luofu, charged with mass murder and being a Denizen of Abundance. He was considered a 'newborn', but was kept in darkness for years upon years. They waited to see if he would "become someone else", like the Vidyadhara do. They waited to see if he would perish like a Foxian would, or a Xianzhou native would.
They would wait, for countless years, until he was released. The unnamed man would be exiled from the Luofu, with a ban and told to never return. Much like they would with Dan Heng centuries later. Tossed out, he would be left adrift in the sea of stars for what felt like an eternity.
Because of his power as a manmade aeon, he did not freeze nor die while in the vacuum of space. Instead, he drifted aimlessly, fading in and out of sleep. When he woke up fully, he had been pulled onto the Astral Express and met some of Akivili's followers, the Nameless.
And, when asked for his name, he merely called himself "Nameless", as he had no name. Akivili herself would then suggest that he take up the name "Dark". Reminded of the centuries he spent without ever seeing anyone, he adopted that as his name.
For a while, until the Express' destruction, the newly-christened Dark would travel with the Nameless and observe. He would slowly but surely construct a personality of his own, taking bits and pieces of the personalities of others that they met, becoming more and more like a "person" and less like a "newborn babe".
Dark became close to Akivili and would learn many things from her. He would fall in love with her, only to be devastated when he found she had died due to Aha's actions.
The rage he felt triggered his awakening as the Aeon of Destruction. If it weren't for the love he held in his heart for Akivili and the Trailblaze, Dark would have fully lost himself when he ascended. Instead, he would send Aha a warning before disappearing himself.
Unfortunately, he was the reason most of the star tracks had been destroyed, his awakening having meant that he had little control over what he destroyed as a warning. It was a complete accident, one he feels immense guilt over.
For years, as the Destruction, Dark would hear the calls and praises of his "worshippers". Those who walked the Path of Destruction, those who wanted to one day become him. Drifting aimlessly through space, with no destination in mind, he would listen to the cacophony of voices that had started the day he had become the Aeon of Destruction.
They called him Nanook. They gave him a name that wasn't his own, wasn't the name Akivili had given him. Wasn't what he had been called by those that followed the path of the Trailblaze. Growing tired and feeling sad from the loss of Akivili, Dark would go back to sleep and dream of the years he spent with Akivili and her Nameless.
Until he woke up, on a familiar train, having been pulled onboard by Himeko and Welt Yang, long before Dan Heng and March 7th became a part of the crew. As the Astral Express crew grew, so too did Dark's fear of losing them.
And then, one day, he felt the presence of Akivili once more and the power of the Trailblaze grow stronger. Not long after, he would meet Akivili once again.
But she did not remember who he was. With a sad smile on his face, he would reintroduce himself to her and watch as she integrated with the Astral Express crew, her followers.
Thus, he watches over her and those who walk the path of the Trailblaze, never forgetting the kindness and love Akivili once showed him.
