Columbo and the Knight (1984)

put me in the universe where Columbo ran through the 1980s and had a crossover episode with Knight Rider. I think they deserved it, and I am not just saying that because they're my two favorite Old Shows. @telebeast wrote a little fanfic blurb about it and I HAD to visualize it into a comic (which is also the longest comic I have finished thus far at five pages...), so writing credit goes to them.

maybe it was particularly cruel to name him after the injury that almost killed him as a hatchling, but he doesn't seem to mind

the dragons don't have names in the traditional sense because they don't use language that way, so the telephony callsign is a way for humans to refer to them (usually referring to the rider & dragon as a single operational unit). the names often evolve from nicknames used by the training officers and can be demeaning, but usually just point out the rider-dragon dyad's most distinctive feature. sometimes that most distinctive feature is the fact that your mom tried to kill you one time and left some scars behind

in common with pipes from the same airbase, the sprinter dragon breakneck wears the identifying stripes on neck & tail, an easy way to show allegiance. unlike pipes, breakneck & others in his class cannot fly manually (i.e without the rune) and must launch from an elevated surface. a grounded dragon of this class who can't find a cliff or roof to jump off must be rescued by airlift or catapult.

the role of a sprinter dragon is to reach the forecast battlefield before anyone else, and effectively hold that space before the bulk of the airbase arrives as backup. they have poor longevity in flight and can't engage multiple opponents but they can chase off & catch basically anything else that tries to enter their airspace.

hemlo!! thank ya'll so so much for enjoying this lil comic series!! i know it's been a year since the first part, but most importantly i finished it 💀✨️

every single tags ya'll leave on me posts and past questions i recieve about this au is super appreciated, they make me smile the widest you have no clue!! im just a lil mad at myself that i couldn't expand on this au more so yall could have had more crumbs. irl stuff happened + still getting the hang of drawing and socializing again after years of doing neither of those 😭

but still, im glad i could share this comfort comic i made for myself, and for you guys too. it's a pretty personal one despite the characters not being mine 😅 i hope that you can walk away from this story believing (entirely or not) that someone out there still thinks of you, whether they're from a late/absent loved one who still wants the best for you or a dear friend who will make room in their hearts for you. life will never not be hard, but if you keep them close to your heart, adulting will be bearable 🫂

I think it would really benefit people to internalize that mental illnesses are often chronic and not acute. Some of us will never be able to jump the hurdle of managing illness, much less sustaining a sense of normalcy. Many of us will never "recover," will never manage symptoms, will never even come close to appearing normal - and this is for any condition, even the ones labeled as "simple" disorders or "easy-to-manage" disorders.

It isn't a failure if you cannot manage your symptoms. It isn't a moral failure, and you aren't an awful person. You are human. There's only so much you can do before recognizing that you cannot lift the world. Give yourself the space to be ill because, functionally, you are.
