genuine question: what are your thoughts on first person pov? just in general, doesn't have to be idol x reader. personally, i think writing a whole book in first person is very tricky and requires some proper talent but when it's just short musings of a character, it can be quite fun. one of my own best fics is written in first person, and in context of the original work i like it but every time i encounter some sort of discourse, i feel embarrassed to have used that method.
anon…. i think you gotta hang out less among fanfiction circles and more w people who read books 😭 if you just step a half a foot away from fanfiction, you’d see that first person pov is a long and celebrated narrative mode.
moby dick, jane eyre, the sherlock holmes novels, etc etc there are so many foundational works of english literature that use first person POV going back hundreds of years. the book thief and the lovely bones are two notable examples of modern lit that use an extracorporeal first person omniscient pov. faulkner’s the sound and the fury features multiple first person narratives that provide different accounts of the same story.
like, you could spend years reading articles and writing books about this. there is a whole world outside of shitty fanfiction. “call me ishmael” “reader, i married him” we have been doing this for hundreds of years !! for english-speaking school children, soooo many of our first forays into creative writing took the form of first-person narratives— just look back to your elementary school writing endeavors. it’s common and well-accepted, and it’s an accessible way for children to begin experimenting with the world of a character rather than just the structure of a plot.
whatever the discourse that makes you embarrassed is, just know that you’re better than them and you don’t have to listen to the writing advice of people who slept through english class and think the curtains were just blue.

*Bridgerton spoilers*
Personally I think the three straight main couple seasons of Bridgerton ought to be followed up by three queer main couple seasons. it’s only fair!

Okay so apparently some shit is going on?? Kittspirals was banned (maybe again?) for violating some terms and conditions. And a terf blog was saying it’s cause he drew child porn (impossible) and another heta artist (I’m assuming who didn’t realize this person was a terf) reblogged that post??

Not the spiderverse art book restarting the dying down Hobie age discourse. With the Japanese version implying he’s a ‘young boy’(I think that’s what it was either way either way) and the book saying ‘he’s much older than miles..’(smth like that either way either way) and it’s like seriously? Again? AGAIN?
The directors said it’s up to interpretation. And the only reason(w/ the exclusion of the people thinking he’s like 30 cause that’s weird and gross, re-examine some racial biases)that people are so adamant he is or isn’t a minor is because of shipping! Whether it’s with one of the spider teens or with OCs or justifying self shipping it’s weird! It’s weird that that’s the reason people are going nuts over this shit and dying on their respective hills. And let people have their HCs holyshit.
And to reiterate: it’s not proshipping/pedoshit if someone HCs Hobie as a teen and ships them with one of the spider teens. It’s not necessarily fetishization and is not pedoshit if people HC him as a young adult and do self ships or whatever else goes on there.
It’s fandom let people fuck around. Something doesn’t have to be justified as morally wrong for you not to like it. Stop trying to force your own Head Canons, key word HEAD as in the canon in your head, onto other people.
Sorry for the rant I just cannot believe it’s still going.

i love how spreen does not give a single fuck about what people who don’t watch him think. like i know it kinda sounded like he was backtracking a little when he clarified he didn’t mean the entire community but i think he was just being honest. like i know everything related to that server is v shady but this situation was different cause bbh and baghera did actually retract what they said and praised the community on the next day. while spreen straight up said he does not care what people who only watch stuff ooc say about him. and i respect him so much for that

i cannot stand those quirky overly-friendly-to-the-point-of-crossing-boundaries teachers and professors who make you do icebreakers or fun facts about yourself at the beginning of the semester bc their questions are always the exact sort of stuff that you never wanna answer. but they just keep asking bc they think you’re just being shy and cute. ‘what are your hobbies? what kind of music do you like? what’s a topic very personal and important to you?’ MAN i am not subjecting myself to public humiliation like that for being very far removed from the norm nor am i opening up about my deep-seated personal problems. i don’t know you i don’t respect you you are not entitled to anything outside of my graded work. i’m just trying to prevent everybody in the room including you and i from becoming incredibly uncomfortable. just take the hint when i deflect your questions and pretend to be boring

being a fandom blog was so fun back then…until suddenly ace hcs were cringe or the people who would happily discuss ace hcs would also happily bully actual ace people because it was funny.
aftg saved me. a fandom with a demi-aspec mc was my lifeline while i took my sexuality out of my bio to avoid harassment. my irl communities weren’t accepting or were otherwise toxic to me. but i had access to this whole well of people’s love for an aspec character.
it was still years before i could see one of Those Posts without losing it, in fact it was years until they stopped showing up on my dash. but at least when i still had to see that sort of vitriol daily, i was able to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Wyll’s romance IS boring but it has nothing to do with his skin color. Larian dropped the fucking ball with his character at all possible angles. he could’ve easily been an instant favorite without having to guilt people into liking him because they apparently could only add (1) black character, but they chose not to give him the same well rounded arc and romance as some of the other characters, and that’s infinitely more racist than just finding his romance storyline boring. don’t blame players for Larian’s fuck up.
