A chill goes down his spine as Jungkook watches you smile at him and skip closer while taking a little bite out of your cotton candy duck.
"I-"
"Is...it...done?"
Jungkook swallows thickly and clears his throat before turning and walking toward the entrance of the fair.
You stop skipping and watch Jungkook curiously.
What is he doing?
You saw him answer the phone and then a look came over his face, something you couldn't decipher. He was smiling a second earlier...
Now he's leaving the fair...
Panic surges through you as you freeze, your sweaty hands gripping your cotton candy and teddy bear.
Is he leaving you?
Why is he leaving you?
You're about to run after him when a hand grabs your arm. You don't even have time to turn around and see who it is before you're being yanked into a crowd.
You fight back as you turn to see a man pulling you through the swarms of people.
What the heck??
You try to pull away again but he keeps his hand gripped tightly around your upper arm.
You can't see his face because he's turned away from you and is wearing a black baseball cap.
"L-Let go of m-me," You huff out, squirming around.
A few people give you and the man weird looks, but no one comes to your aid, even when you look at them in distress.
Once the man has you behind a popcorn stand where there are no people, he stops. That's when you lift your foot and bring it down on his toes, hard.
"Ah! Fuck!" The man curses and lets go of your arm for a second.
You take that opportunity to stomp on his other toes before turning to make a run for it. You're a few feet away when you feel his arms wrap around your waist and he yanks you backward.
"AHH! HEL-mmfmmf!"
Your scream is cut off when he smacks a gloved hand over your mouth. Your eyes wide with fear, you shove your cotton candy back and end up poking him in the eye with the stick.
He hollers for a moment but quickly shuts up and continues to drag you further away from the fair.
The lights and sounds of people laughing slowly start to fade away.
-
Jungkook steps out of the entrance where no one is hanging around, then he takes a deep breath before answering.
"It's done."
"Why didn't you contact us?" Mr. Ling asks darkly.
"I tried to, no one answered. I assumed you had skipped out with the rest of the money once the job was done." Jungkook answers smoothly, even though his insides are churning with anxiety.
"Huh," Mr. Ling sounds genuinely confused.
Thank God.
"Well, where is your proof?"
That makes another wave of anxiety flow through Jungkook, his head spinning as he tries to think of something to say.
"What proof would you like? I was finished a while ago. I sent you a picture, but I never got a response."
There's silence on the other end as Mr. Ling seems to be debating on whether to believe him or not. Then, a gravelly sigh comes through the phone.
"I suppose you already deleted the picture and disposed of the body?"
"Of course, I'm not an amateur."
Mr. Ling sighs again, as if this whole situation has given him a headache, "I apologize, L. I was under the impression that you had failed the hit. Apparently one of my men is to blame, seeing as they never reported the picture to me or the client."
Jungkook waits quietly for him to continue, and he does, "I'll be sending out my men to confirm the hit is finished. After that, we can meet at the same place so I can give you the rest of the promised price. Is that alright with you?"
The infamous hitman is speechless for a minute, confused that it worked. And why was Mr. Ling sounding so hospitable all of a sudden?
Something doesn't feel right.
"Sounds fine. Let me know when, I'll be there."
Then Jungkook hangs up.
Jungkook doesn't dare to even breathe, still at a loss for being able to lie his way out of that one.
But not for long.
Mr. Ling's men are going to find out that you're still alive, then they're going to take matters into their own hands.
How long does he have?
A week?
A day?
Jungkook closes his eyes and breathes deeply for a second, letting it out slowly.
When he's composed himself, he puts the phone back into his pocket and walks back into the fair, thinking up yet another lie to tell you so you don't question him leaving suddenly.
Jungkook walks back to where he was when he got the phone call, but you aren't there...
He looks around, but you're nowhere to be seen.
Maybe you found a bench to sit on and wait for him?
Jungkook walks further into the fair, moving through the crowd of people as they all mill about. He looks at his phone and sees that it's almost eight-thirty.
Fuck.
Where are you?
"____?" Jungkook calls out experimentally.
He gets no answer and he still can't see you anywhere.
He grabs the closest person to him, a man who looks to be around forty who's here with his teenage daughter.
"Excuse me, sir?" Jungkook speaks over the music and constant chattering.
The man looks at him with a slightly peeved expression, "What is it?"
"I'm looking for a girl. She'd look to be around twenty, her hair is in half pigtails and she's wearing a yellow sweatshirt with a teddy bear on it. She's also probably carrying a purple teddy bear and a cotton candy duck,” Jungkook says in a rush.
The man gives him a strange look as he shakes his head, "I haven't seen anyone like that around here-"
"Oh wait, dad, I did!" The girl, around fourteen, grabs at her father's arm.
Jungkook looks at her, his chest lifting at her words, "When did you see her? Where?"
The girl looks thoughtful for a minute, "Uhm, I think it was about six minutes or so ago? She was with a man. He had her by the arm and was taking her somewhere. I thought she was my age and her father was scolding her, so I didn't say anything..." The girl looks guiltily at Jungkook who's now panicking.
Had Mr. Ling already sent his men out before calling him?
"W-Where were they going?" Jungkook asks her frantically.
"I'm not sure, I'm sorry," The girl looks like she feels terrible, "I saw them heading toward the popcorn stands, that's all I can remember."
Jungkook thanks her quickly and turns to hurry towards the popcorn stand, wishing with all his might that you're just getting some popcorn and that the girl was mistaken.
When he reaches the stand, he looks around and around, but you're nowhere.
"Fucking hell," Jungkook mutters anxiously.
What could've happened to you?
He moves to get behind the stand, but all he sees is darkness and a few bushes.
"____?" He calls out.
He steps further into the darkness, then he feels something under his foot. He looks down to see a white paper stick with the remnants of yellow and orange cotton candy on it.
His stomach twists horribly as he bends down to pick it up.
"____?" He calls louder this time, but again, all he can hear is deafening silence.
-
"Who are y-you?" You ask, your arms crossed over your chest as you shiver from the air that's begun to chill.
You're sitting by a tree trunk as the masked stranger paces, one hand over the eye that you poked with the cotton candy stick.
He looks up at the sound of your voice, then he sighs and reaches up to remove his mask. You gasp when you see the face of the young man from the train station. You knew you saw him earlier, you had just assumed you were imagining things.
"Please, don't be scared of me," The man pleads as he gets to his knees in front of you.
"W-Who are you?" You whisper the words once more, your voice shaking with fear.
"My name is Kihyun. And I'm not the one you need to be afraid of ____," He looks into your eyes, silently begging you to believe him.
You look back and forth between his gaze, your heart pounding in your chest from the fear consuming you.
What does he want with you?
How does he know your name?
Is he going to kill you?
But you say nothing.
Kihyun looks at you sadly and sits back, "____-"
"How d-do you know m-my name?" You ask, finally finding your voice.
"It doesn't matter, what matters is that we get you as far as we can from Jungkook-"
"____?"
You both look over at the sound of Jungkook's voice calling your name from a small distance away, your heart soaring as Kihyun's sinks to his feet.
He jumps up and grabs your arm, starting to drag you off.
But you scream before he can get very far, "Jungkook!! Here, I-I'm h-here!"
You hear the sound of someone running before Jungkook crashes through the bushes and comes face to face with Kihyun holding onto your arm, frozen in his place as he stares at Jungkook.
Jungkook's eyes narrow at the young man as he walks over. To your surprise, Kihyun doesn't move as Jungkook comes up and rips his hand from your arm.
You stumble back and watch in fear as the two of them continue to stare at each other.
Finally, Jungkook is the first to speak.
"Who the fuck are you?" He practically growls.
Kihyun glares back at him, "I think maybe you ought to tell ____ who you are first, Jungkook."
Jungkook takes a step forward, a warning look in his eyes.
"____, call the police," He says without taking his gaze from Kihyun. Then, he directs his words to the stranger, "If you even think about running-"
That's when Kihyun breaks into a run, disappearing as fast as he appeared.
But this time, Jungkook is right on his tail.
You scream when you hear a giant thud, then you run over to see Jungkook on top of Kihyun as the two men punch, kick, and scratch one another mercilessly.
You scramble for your phone, but then realize that it isn't in your pocket. It must have fallen out when Kihyun was dragging you away.
What do you do now??
You look back at the two fighting and you start to hyperventilate.
"____! Call the- call the police!" Jungkook shouts, struggling to keep a hold of the writhing man beneath him.
"I- I- I-" You can't...you can't do anything.
You aren't sure why you can't move. You're frozen.
"____!"
Suddenly you burst into tears as you crumple to the ground and curl into yourself.
Jungkook hears a heart-wrenching sob as he finally pins Kihyun to the ground in a stable position.
He turns to look towards you and that was his mistake.
Kihyun lifts his head and smashes the back of it into Jungkook's nose. When Jungkook stumbles back, Kihyun leaps to his feet and darts away.
Jungkook is holding a hand to his bleeding nose, groaning for a second before he sits up and sees a blurry image of the stranger running into the darkness.
His head is spinning.
Fuck he's gonna be sick.
Jungkook turns and immediately retches, his stomach heaving out everything in it as a result of the dizzying concussion he undoubtedly has.
Once he is finished, he turns to see you in a ball on the ground.
Jungkook pushes himself up, swaying on his feet for a second as he hurriedly makes his way over to you.
He gets to his knees in front of you and rubs at his eyes with the back of his hands to make the blurriness go away.
"Fuck, ____ I'm sorry-" He mutters as he fights the urge to touch you and comfort you in some way. He has blood all over his hands, so it's not like he could anyway.
You look through your fingers at him and Jungkook can see your whole body shaking uncontrollably.
You sniffle and pull your hands from your face to reach out and cup his, "Y-You're hurt..." You whisper tearfully as you watch Jungkook shrug, his hands still cupped around his nose. Thankfully the bleeding has mostly stopped.
"I'm fine," He whispers, embarrassed that you've seen him like this.
You shake your head and stand up shakily, "S-Stay right th-there-"
"No!"
You jump at his sudden response.
Jungkook backtracks and shakes his head, "Sorry, I just-...I don't want you to leave my sight again...please."
You nod slowly after a minute, then you walk over and help him to his feet. You place one of your arms around his waist, "Ok, l-let's get you c-cleaned up."
You don't mention anything about the freak out you just had and Jungkook doesn't want to bring it up for fear of triggering you.
But he wants to know what happened.
-
On the way back to the fair, you find your phone and BonBon on the ground. You grab them, putting the phone in your pocket and holding BonBon's hand in one hand as you continue to help Jungkook with the other.
He had shyly protested several times that you didn't need to help him walk, but you insisted.
You end up finding some paper towels and wetting them for Jungkook to clean his face up, then Jungkook phones the police to let them know what happened.
You sit on the bench in the middle of the fair that's quickly emptying of people.
Jungkook is a few feet in front of you, a frown on his cut lip and a red mark on his cheekbone as he recounts what happened to the police officer on the other side of the phone.
After a few minutes, Jungkook hangs up and walks over to you, who's hugging onto BonBon tightly.
He huffs out an annoyed breath, "They said there wasn't really anything they can do. There are a lot of people named Kihyun in Seoul alone, so without the last name they'll have a hard time finding him."
"B-But I saw his f-face," You protest quietly, stuffing your face into BonBon's head.
"They don't care," Jungkook says bitterly, "They won't do anything because police are useless."
"They're s-supposed to b-be the good guys," You whisper, barely loud enough for Jungkook to hear you.
"I know."
Jungkook turns away from you, not able to stand seeing you so scared and betrayed that the police won't do anything.
A moment later, Jungkook turns back to you, "I should get you home."
You nod reluctantly and stand up as Jungkook does.
The walk to the car is silent as a grave and you're aching to break the silence.
But you have nothing to say.
Once you make it to the car, you hurry and get in, buckling up quickly as Jungkook does the same.
He pulls away from the fair, the lights and music fading away as he turns a corner and gets onto the main street.
You stare after it longingly and Jungkook has to literally drag his eyes away from you.
A few minutes into the ride, you make Jungkook jump in surprise when you suddenly speak, "Th-thank you, J-Jungkook."
He feels his face heat up for no reason known to him as he simply nods, choosing not to say anything.
The rest of the ride passes by in silence until Jungkook pulls into the parking lot of your apartment complex.
He shifts the gear into park and the two of you sit there for a moment, neither of you speaking.
You look over to see Jungkook gripping the steering wheel tightly, his knuckles almost white. A sinking feeling appears in your stomach and you look away.
Jungkook turns to you then, "Are you okay, ____?"
You nod, but he can see the unshed tears threatening to spill.
"I'm sorry," He whispers, he doesn’t know what else to say.
You force a smile onto your face and turn to see him watching you, "I'm o-okay, Jungkook...r-really. You d-d-don't have to apologize, you did no-nothing wrong."
Jungkook turns to look out the front window.
Oh, how wrong you were.
About so many things.
But he couldn't tell you that.
"I'm sorry I left you alone...I-...I got a call from Taehyung," Lying to you so unashamedly makes him sick to his stomach.
"It's ok-kay."
No, it's not.
You hear him take a deep breath and let it out through his nose.
You should go.
"Th-Thank you a-again, Jungkook. I h-had an amazing time," You say honestly, despite the last half hour it truly was one of the best days you can remember.
You unbuckle and grab BonBon, then you open the car door and hop out onto the asphalt. Jungkook watches you, but he can't get his idiotic self to say anything. You turn and smile at him, then you wave. He gives you a weak smile and waves back, watching you as you struggle for a moment to shut the car door.
"___," Jungkook calls out to you.
You look at him, "Y-Yes?"
"Can you..." He chides himself for being so tongue-tied right now, "Could you text me when you get inside?"
You nod with a smile and he feels his heart speed up just a tiny bit.
No, no it didn't.
You eventually are able to shut the door, then you start skipping down the walkway towards your apartment. He keeps an eye on you the whole time until you're out of his line of sight. Then he sits there, anxiously awaiting your text.
Not a minute later, he hears a ping in his pocket.
Jungkook scrambles for his phone, unlocking it and seeing your message on the screen.
(duck emoji): i'm inside~ and mina is here too
Jungkook breathes a sigh of relief as he texts a quick reply.
Alright, have a good night.
You respond immediately.
(duck emoji): you too, thank you for everything today :)
A soft smile finds its way to his lips and he sends the last message: of course, before putting his phone down and pulling out of the parking spot.
_______________
"____, I'm going to murder him and then kill you with his dead body."
"M-Mina," You pout at your fuming best friend after you told her what happened before you left the fair.
"No, ____. I knew this would happen," Mina paces the living room in frustration as you sit on the couch with BonBon in your arms.
"Mina, it w-was a good d-day-"
"A good day?! You were dragged off by some crazy stranger because that idiot left you alone-"
That upsets you.
"Stop it!" You raise your voice, taking her by surprise, "I t-told you, he g-got a phone c-call."
"I don't care-"
"You n-never care about an-anything I have to s-say! I'm not a b-baby! He wasn't ba-babysitting me! He's allowed t-to take an im-important call if he wants or n-needs to!"
Mina stares at you in shock as you stand up, still clutching your teddy bear.
"Nothing th-that happened w-was his fault!"
"____-" Mina tries to backtrack but you're already on a roll.
"You're m-my best friend, M-Mina...You're s-supposed to support me."
"I do-"
"No, all y-you do is t-try to say bad things ab-about the boy I like-"
Mina narrows her eyes at that, making you step back and hug BonBon tighter.
"I knew it. I knew you liked him."
You huff out in frustration and sit on the couch again as Mina runs a hand through her hair, "Damn it, ____."
"W-What?" You snap, refusing to look at her.
"I told you, you can't-"
"Why??" You stand up again, moving closer to her, BonBon forgotten on the couch.
"Jungkook isn't worth it-"
"Who a-are you to d-determine his worth?" You ask in disbelief, "You d-don't even know h-him."
Mina scoffs, "Neither do you."
"I'm l-learning more a-about h-him every day," You look at Mina with hurt in your gaze and she looks away, "Why can't y-you treat m-me as an equal?" You whisper brokenly.
Mina looks at you in confusion, "What do you mean?"
"You th-think I'm incapable of m-making my own decisions. Y-You're only a year older than me, I'm n-not a baby."
"I don't think you're a baby because you're younger than me, ___," Mina reaches out to you but you step back.
"I'm j-just an invalid t-to you."
Mina's heart breaks at your words, "___, no-"
"I didn't...I didn't a-ask for this," Your voice is barely above a whisper.
Mina's frown deepens, "___, stop. You are not an invalid to me, I swear."
"Everyone calls me s-stupid, I'm n-not stupid."
"No, no you're not," Mina steps towards you again, but this time you stay in your place. You're not even looking at her anymore, you're looking past her.
"___-"
"Y-You don't get t-to decide who I l-like and who I don't," You whisper angrily, your eyes filled with tears.
Mina sighs, dragging her hands down her face, "____, I'm just worried about you."
"Then s-stop worrying a-about me."
"That's my job, as your best friend," Mina reasons with you.
You finally look at her again, but the glare you give her makes her swallow thickly, "Y-You're not a-acting like my b-best friend."
"I-"
"Please l-leave."
Mina is taken aback by that. Even you are surprised at your own words, but you don't show it. She looks at you sadly, but you turn and grab BonBon before hurrying to your room.
She hears your bedroom door shut and then lock.
Mina sighs deeply, her head starting to hurt from all of this.
Two minutes later, she walks over and knocks on your door. You don't answer, so she leans against the frame, "___, I need to leave for a few days. It's something for work again, but I don't want to leave when we're like this."
She doesn't get an answer.
A few minutes later, you hear your front door shut as you're buried under your covers, hugging BonBon and Smiley tightly, a few tears lingering in your eyes.
-
"Must've been one hell of a date!" Taehyung exclaims the second Jungkook walks in the door, "You were gone all day."
Jungkook tries to seem annoyed, but Taehyung catches the tiniest smile on his face.
"Shit boy, you're whipped."
"I'm not, but think whatever you want," Jungkook groans as he slips his shoes off and drops them by the door.
"So did you do it?" Tae asks as he watches Jungkook walk over and grab some pajamas out of his drawer.
"Do what?" Jungkook asks in confusion while trying to untangle his PJ shirt.
"Kiss her."
Jungkook drops the shirt on his bed and turns to look at Tae, unamused.
"I told you. It wasn't a date, I don't like her like that, and no of course I didn't kiss her," He says it slowly as if he needs to dumb it down for his older friend.
Tae mocks him, "Yeah, whatever. You're pathetic."
"And you're an asshole."
"As I've been told," Tae snaps back.
"Rightfully so," Jungkook sneers at him.
Tae sticks his tongue out at Jungkook, making the younger scoff at his childish behavior.
Then Tae's face changes into one of confusion as he studies Jungkook closer, "Hey, what happened to your face?"
Jungkook reaches up to touch his cut lip, then the sore part of his cheekbone, wincing when a sharp pain follows.
"Nothing," He mumbles.
Tae just scoffs and lies on the couch, back facing Jungkook, "Whatever JK, like I give a shit what happens to you anyway."
Jungkook changes quickly, trying not to think too hard about what Tae said, then he crawls into bed.
He stares at the ceiling for a little bit, his brain spinning in all directions.
He's dying to tell Tae about what happened earlier, but he can't risk it.
Who was that Kihyun guy? And how did he know Jungkook's name and who he was?
Jungkook turns onto his side, trying to find a comfortable position. He takes out his phone, wanting to text you, but then he decides against it and sighs heavily as he switches to his left side.
Then his right side again.
He ends up moving onto his back again.
A groan sounds from the couch, "Stop writhing around you weirdo. Some of us are trying to get some sleep."
Jungkook sighs and keeps his eyes trained on the ceiling.
"Tae?" He whispers a few minutes later.
"What?" Taehyung grumbles.
"What does it mean when someone is on your mind all the time?"
Taehyung sits up on the couch and squints over at Jungkook through the darkened room.
"What?" Tae says again, beyond confused.
He hears a small sigh from Jungkook, then he whispers again, "When you can't stop thinking of someone...what does it mean?"
Tae gets up and moves to Jungkook's bed, seeing the younger man follow his movements in the light of the moon as Tae sits on the edge of the bed.
"What are you going on about?" Tae asks softly.
Jungkook's eyes dart away from Tae, "Never mind, it's stupid."
"It isn't stupid," Tae counters.
Jungkook looks back at him warily, "Are you going to make fun of me?"
"Probably."
"Then go away," Jungkook snaps before turning on his right side, away from Taehyung.
"I'm kidding JK," Tae chuckles and pats Jungkook on the bum. The younger swats his hand away but doesn't face him again.
A few minutes pass by in silence, then Jungkook hears Tae speak up quietly.
"It depends on what you're thinking about. I constantly think about my hits before I get the job done, even after sometimes. The anger it brings me, thinking about what they did to deserve it, fuels me."
Jungkook turns to Tae slowly, moving his body until he's on his left side and facing him again.
"Do you ever regret it?" Jungkook asks softly.
Tae shakes his head, "No, I never have. They all deserved it."
Jungkook nods, searching his friend's face carefully.
Tae flicks him on the forehead, "What are you staring at?"
Jungkook rubs his forehead with a frown, "Nothing."
Tae leans back and looks at the wall where Jungkook has a poster from some 80's sci-fi movie. He can barely make it out in the dark.
"So, what are thinking about? With the person."
Jungkook moves onto his back again and looks at the ceiling, too embarrassed to face Tae right now.
"Uhm, just a lot of things I guess."
"Like?" Tae presses.
"Like, why they are the way they are...why certain things have happened."
Tae stays quiet, so Jungkook continues.
"When I'll see them again, or talk to them again."
Tae looks at Jungkook, seeing the way his eyes seem to be looking at something that isn't there.
"I hate them, so much. But at the same time, I don't, and I don't understand why they make me feel certain things."
Tae nudges his shoulder, "Is it me?" He asks jokingly.
Jungkook turns his head to glare at Tae, "This, this is why I don't talk to you about things. You never take me seriously."
Jungkook turns onto his right side again, "Just forget it. Goodnight."
Tae frowns, feeling genuinely bad for shutting down Jungkook's serious questions with a stupid joke. He thought it would make him laugh. He thinks a lot of his jokes will bring a smile to his best friend's face these days, but they never do.
"Sorry, JK," He mumbles, but he's only met with silence.
Tae sits there for a minute, then he stands up.
"It sounds like you're falling for them, Kook. Whoever it is. I know you're confused about it and you think you hate them, but I can tell you that you don't."
More silence.
Tae sighs and moves back to the couch, "I know it's hard. But just remember who you are, what you are. You can't have someone like that in your life, Jungkook, you know that."
He doesn't hear a sound from Jungkook, and he would think he'd fallen asleep, but he knows better.
"It's too dangerous-"
"I know," Jungkook snaps suddenly.
Tae nods, "Ok, goodnight Kook."
Without getting a response, Tae just lays down and turns onto his side, closing his eyes and hoping he can get to sleep soon.
Jungkook on the other hand is looking out the slit in the blinds, the moonlight shining in his eyes as he tries to forget about everything. He can't close his eyes, because when he does, all he can see is your stupid face.
Stupid stupid fucking stupid.
__________________________
The next morning, you wake up with blurry sight and swollen eyelids from crying yourself to sleep.
You and Mina have never fought like that before. Sure, you've had your disagreements, she's been your best friend for as long as you can remember, those little fights are bound to happen.
But what happened last night, was something you never thought would.
You're still hurt, achingly so.
You hope she stays safe on her little trip, wherever she's going this time, but you're glad you don't have to face her today.
You stay in bed for at least another half hour before dragging yourself out of the covers and stumbling to use the restroom.
After that, you stumble into the kitchen, rubbing your bleary eyes.
You aren't planning on taking a shower, because you don't have anything to do or anyone to see today anyway.
You end up making yourself some toast with jam, not being able to resist cutting it into heart shapes with your little cookie cutters. The happy little shapes make you smile lightly as you look at them.
At least that was able to cheer you up a bit.
You set BonBon and Smiley down on the table and Cookie in a chair, because he's far too big to be sitting on the table. Then you start to eat.
While you're chewing thoughtfully on your toast, your phone pings in your room.
You look up from your breakfast and frown, wondering who that could possibly be.
You know it isn't Mina.
You get up and make your way to your room slowly, finally grabbing your phone and unlocking it to see a message from Jungkook.
Your stomach twists.
Partly from excitement and partly from dread that you're betraying Mina by even speaking to him.
You hate that she's made you feel like that now.
Nevertheless, a small smile lights up your face at the words on your screen.
Jungkook: How are you doing?
You sigh and type out a reply.
im okay, how r u?
Then you lock your phone again and try to ignore the burning in your heart and stomach at this whole situation.
A moment later, Jungkook's next text comes in.
Jungkook: I'm doing alright. Do you want to hang out today? If you're hanging out with Mina, I understand.
Your stomach flips over again, mixing with wonderful and horrible feelings all at the same time.
It makes you sick to your stomach, but you type out your reply anyway.
i think im just going to stay home today. mina went on another business thing, but she'll be back in a few days. thank you though, jungkook.
You sigh and set your phone down before walking back out to finish your breakfast.
-
The second Jungkook reads your last text, his stomach turns horribly. First, it was because you declined his invitation to hang out, did Mina make you think twice about him? Were you mad at him because of yesterday? Then it turned into unexpected anxiety when he read that Mina wasn't even there.
You were home alone? After everything that happened last night?
Hopefully, you stay home and don't go out at all today, not until he could figure out who this Kihyun bastard was and what he wanted.
Tae watches Jungkook pace around the tiny studio apartment, his chin resting in his hand as he scrutinizes the young man.
"Stop pacing," He suddenly says.
Jungkook stops moving and looks at Tae, a frown of irritation on his face.
"What's going on?" Taehyung tries hopefully, knowing it was a slim chance if any that Jungkook won't just cuss him out and carry on with his worrying somewhere else.
"It's nothi-" Jungkook starts to say but Tae cuts him off.
"It's clearly something, maybe something I can help with."
Jungkook is tempted for a minute, to tell Tae what happened last night, but Tae is too smart, he'll figure something out for sure.
So, he settles for looking away and muttering, "You can't help."
"Try me," Tae says, emotionless.
Jungkook looks at him again, "I'm just worried about a friend, that's all."
"Duck emoji girl?"
Jungkook purses his lips at that but nods anyway.
"Something happened last night, didn't it?" Tae says softly.
Jungkook tries to resist, he really does. But he has no one else to talk to about this and it's gnawing at his insides, making him ill with anxiety. So he caves.
"Yes," He whispers.
Tae pats the couch, "Sit."
Jungkook complies reluctantly, a huff of air leaving his chest as he sits down.
"What happened?" Tae presses immediately.
Jungkook gives him an annoyed look but speaks nonetheless, "I left her. For a few minutes, because I got a phone call..."
Tae nods encouragingly.
"When I went back, she was gone. She was dragged off by some fucking bastard," Jungkook recalls, his hands starting to shake with anger.
Tae watches him closely.
"Thankfully I caught up to them, but I lost the guy. Now she's home alone and I don't know..." Jungkook rubs the back of his neck, "She probably wants to be alone, but I just-"
"JK," Tae interrupts him.
"Mm?"
"Did you recognize him?"
Jungkook shakes his head.
"Did he recognize you?"
Jungkook pauses for a moment, then he slowly nods his head.
"What did he say?"
Jungkook swallows, "I asked who he was and he said I should tell my friend who I was first."
Tae runs a hand down his face in exhaustion, "It's probably another hitman, Kook. He was trying to get back at you by doing something to someone you care about."
"I don't care ab-"
"Literally, you're a dumbass."
"Why?" Jungkook huffs out angrily.
"Clearly you care about this booty call girl-"
"I told you it isn't like that!"
"Oh right, whatever. But anyway, this guy is clearly jealous."
"Jealous?"
"Yeah, he's obviously heard of you and what a success you are in the business, that ticks him off. He wants to get back at you."
"I don't think that's it."
"Why not?"
"He said my name-"
"What??" Tae jumps off the couch and looms over Jungkook, "He called you Jungkook? He didn't call you Lotus? Or L?"
Jungkook shakes his head.
"Damn it all to fucking hell, Jungkook! What are you thinking these days??" Tae hollers, making Jungkook bite his lip.
Tae is about to go on a tirade about how much Jungkook has fucked up, then a look of understanding comes over his face and he starts to laugh.
Jungkook watches in bewilderment when Tae laughs and claps loudly, "Oh! Oh, thank fuck!"
He starts to squirm on the couch, "Thank fuck, what? How is any of this good at all?"
"It isn't you!" Tae sits with a sigh of relief, "He doesn't know who you are, Kook."
"But he said-"
"He said what, exactly? That you're a hitman?"
"Well, no, not exactly."
Tae points at Jungkook, "He isn't after you, kid. He's after your friend."
That makes Jungkook freeze with anxiety.
"He's been stalking her, I'm guessing."
That brings absolutely no comfort to Jungkook whatsoever.
"He must think you're her boyfriend or something and he's jealous. He's going to lie to her to get her away from you. He doesn't really know who you are, he's just making shit up."
Jungkook swallows thickly, "He's...been stalking her?"
Tae nods and Jungkook's stomach sinks to his feet.
-
After finishing your yummy breakfast, you decide you want to do something nice for yourself today, so you end up taking a quick shower and getting dressed.
An hour later, you're looking at your reflection in your full-sized mirror. A smile graces your features as you look at the pretty pink dress that goes down to just above your knees.
"P-Pretty," You whisper gently, happy with the choice of clothing.
Today, you're going to treat yourself. Just you.
Today you aren't going to think of anyone else.
You walk out and grab a pair of little white wedged heels from your shoe closet.
They're not super flashy and they're more comfortable than regular heels, but they'll take a while to get used to. The only other time you wore them was when Mina took you out for your birthday last year and she insisted you two glam up for it.
The memory makes you smile, but then it turns into a frown as you start rethinking about what happened last night.
You said some pretty mean things to her.
But she hasn't been acting like herself, ever since her month-long business trip.
It's like she doesn't care what you have to say or what you want, she keeps pushing you to be uncomfortable and to get angry with her, not to mention she acts like she knows better than you and that you aren't capable of picking your own friends.
You don’t like getting angry.
Ninety-nine percent of the time, you're happy. And that's how you like it. You don't like getting mad or crying or any of that.
But people seem to keep getting those reactions out of you recently.
So, you're using today for you. No more drama for as long as you can manage it, what with Jungkook and Mina getting you all riled up so often.
You pull the shoes on and run your fingers through your hair that you managed to remember to brush today without anyone reminding you to.
Then you grab your purse and head out.
-
First, you go to the pet store.
You see all the little kittens and puppies and your heart instantly melts.
You ask to hold one of the kittens and the lady working there kindly hands you the smallest one. It must be the runt of the litter.
It's so very tiny and has golden-orange fur with a few white spots.
She's absolutely precious.
You want to cry. You don't think you've ever wanted something so bad in your entire life.
You're holding the sweet little kitten up to your face as she licks your nose and purrs softly. You're so distracted that you almost miss the person standing outside the door, watching you.
You only catch a glimpse of him before he darts away.
The workers murmur to each other about how they haven't seen that guy around here for a while and they wonder who he is.
You put the event in the back of your mind as you continue to play with the kitten.
An hour later, you reluctantly hand the kitten back to the kind worker and smile sadly, "I r-r-really want her, b-but I don't know if I c-can get her right now."
The girl smiles at you kindly, the workers here know you pretty well since you come here a lot to play with the pets that haven't had any attention in a while.
"It's okay, ___. I'll try my best to save her for you. That's the best I can do."
You smile gratefully and wave goodbye to all the workers and the pets before you make your way out.
Next, you decide to go clothes shopping.
You go into a few different clothes shops, but you can't find anything that really fits your style. The fourth store you go into looks promising as you gaze around at the racks of clothes.
Your phone pings and you pull it out of your purse to see another message from Jungkook.
You sigh and open it up.
Jungkook: I know you wanted to stay at home today, I just wanted to make sure you're okay. Sorry if I'm bugging you.
You smile sadly at the message and decide to be truthful to him.
im okay, jungkook :) honestly, i just wanted to be alone today. im just out having a me day today.
You put your phone back in your pocket and turn to keep looking through the clothes.
Half an hour later, you're checking out and carrying two bags out of the store. You walk over to a bench and pull your phone out. You had heard it go off a few times inside but you were too distracted and excited by all the beautiful clothes to care that much at the time.
You see a missed call and six unopened messages from Jungkook, causing your eyebrows to raise to your hairline.
Jungkook: Wait, what? You're not at home?
Jungkook: Where are you?
Jungkook: ___?
Jungkook: I don't mean to bug you, but could you at least let me know you're alright?
Jungkook: ___...?
Jungkook: please just call me when you get these.
You shake your head and smile fondly at the messages before going to his contact and calling him. It only rings once before you hear an out-of-breath Jungkook answer.
"___?"
"Y-Yeah, 's me. Sorry, I w-was clo-"
"___, why the fuck weren't you answering me?"
You flinch at the anger in his tone. Why was he mad at you? You told him you wanted a day to yourself.
"Um, I was b-busy."
You hear an angry huff on the other side of the phone and your brows furrow deeper, "W-Why are you m-mad at m-me?" You ask timidly.
"I- I'm not mad," Jungkook grumps out, "You just had me worried."
You frown, then you remember your purchases and you smile again, "J-Jungkook, I b-bought a cute-"
"___, are you even taking me seriously right now?"
"Huh?"
"Please just go home."
"No," You pout, "I d-don't wanna. I'm on a m-me date right n-now. Anyway, a-at the p-p-pet store there was a k-kitty and I w-want her so- so bad-"
"___," Jungkook speaks sharply, making you jerk the phone from your ear and glare at it.
"W-What?" You huff.
"Go home. Right now."
"N-No."
Jungkook takes a deep breath on the other side, seemingly trying to calm himself down, "Where are you right now?"
"It d-doesn't matter-"
"___, I fucking swear-"
"Why a-are you and M-Mina ganging up on m-me?" You ask, feeling betrayed that they both can't seem to care about anything you're trying to say.
"Stop being childish, ___. I need you to tell me where you are-"
A little fiery bug lights up in you and you grind your teeth before pouting deeper, "L-Leave me a-alone."
Then you hang up.
You look down at your shopping bags and will the tears to go away. All you wanted to do, was tell Mina about your wonderful night last night and she shut you down. Then you tried to tell Jungkook a bit about your day today and he shuts you down again.
You bite your lip, trying not to feel like a loser.
Why can't they just let you speak?
Why do they have to shove the stupid you're being immature blow right in your face?
You wipe your eyes and decide you aren't going to let them ruin your me date.
So, you stand up and grab your bags, then you head off in the direction of a restaurant that you saw earlier and want to try.
-
The second you hang up, Jungkook looks down at his phone in disbelief.
"Fucking seriously, ___?" Jungkook growls, then he shoves his phone into his pocket. He looks inside the pet store that he just got to, putting his hand up to the window to see if you're in there again.
He ends up going inside, catching the attention of the workers.
One of the girls smiles at him and waves to him, "You're the one that the little black cat couldn't get enough of!"
Jungkook sends her a tight-lipped smile and nods stiffly.
"Was ___ in here by any chance?" He asks no one in particular, he knows they know who he's talking about, you come in here a lot, or so you told him.
The girl that called out to him nods, "She was in here a while ago though. At least two hours ago now."
Jungkook thanks her and is about to take his leave when the girl stops him, "Wait, um, sir."
He turns to look at her expectantly.
She whispers something to the other girls and they nod, so she braves it and comes up to him, "We've been seeing this man-"
"What?" Jungkook says anxiously, accidentally cutting her off.
She nods and swallows thickly, "We only ever see him when ___ is here. We were going to ask her about it but we didn't want to scare her."
"What does he look like?" Jungkook asks sharply, his eyes narrowing.
The girl swallows nervously, "Um, he uh, he's always wearing all black, with a black cap and a mask. We've never really seen his face, only his build."
"And?" Jungkook presses.
"He's probably a little shorter than you and he looks pretty thin, I feel like one of us girls could take him down if we needed to."
That's definitely him.
That bastard seems tiny compared to Jungkook but he's stronger than he looks and he's a squirmy and slippery little fucker.
Jungkook nods and thanks them before hurrying out.
He looks around, seeing people of all different shapes and sizes milling about.
Where the hell could you possibly be?
Where does he even start?
Jungkook walks for a few minutes, completely lost in where to even look. Would you be shopping? Eating? Taking a walk?
Fuck.
Ten minutes later, he's walking past a little restaurant when he sees a girl eating at a table by herself.
He walks closer and his breath hitches when he sees that it's you.
He's about to go inside when he sees a flash of black ducking into a nearby alleyway. Jungkook is after it before he can even think.
He runs into the alley, his footfalls echoing around the closed area.
There's nothing.
Jungkook whips around, looking in circles.
Fuck.
Then it hits him that it could've been a diversion. That thought has him turning on his heels and running as fast as he can back to the front of the restaurant.
He looks in the window to see you still at your table, no creeper in sight.
Jungkook sighs and yanks the door open, walking over to your table. He stops a few feet away when he sees the look on your face.
You're all by yourself, in a beautiful pink dress and your hair all brushed out.
There are a few shopping bags by your feet and you're poking around at the food on your plate, not really eating anything.
Your usual beaming smile has fallen into a small frown and your shining eyes are full of tears as you stare at your food.
Jungkook feels a little piece of his heart break at the sight.
He walks over and takes the seat right across from you, causing you to jump a little as you look up at him.
The initial surprise turns into recognition and then into something that seems more like resentment.
You look away from him, your cheeks turning the slightest pink.
"___-"
"What a-are you doing h-here?"
Jungkook sighs and has to resist the urge to reach across the table and take your hand. He wants to apologize for how he acted on the phone, but he has no idea how.
He's just a stupid idiot.
You finally look at him again, a question in your eyes.
Jungkook clears his throat, " I just-...I'm sorry for how I was behaving earlier, I was just worried."
"W-Why?"
Jungkook worries his lip as he tries to decide what to tell you. He doesn't want to scare you, but you need to know and go to the police.
After a beat of silence, you sigh and pull out some cash, setting it on the table and grabbing your bags to leave.
Jungkook follows you out.
You don't acknowledge him as he walks behind you, wanting to catch up to you but not wanting to make you more upset.
"I'm trying t-to have a n-nice day, please j-just let me," You say softly.
Jungkook catches up to you, "___, I just think you should be at home right now-"
You turn to pout at him, "T-Tell me why."
Jungkook swallows, what the hell is he supposed to say? I'm almost positive that Kihyun fucker from last night is actually stalking you and now I don't feel comfortable leaving you alone...??
How would you even respond to that??
Instead of doing the sensible thing and being honest and gentle with you, Jungkook, the bright motherfucker that he is, ends up going into default and dealing with it the way he usually deals with people.
Angrily.
He grinds his teeth and walks in front of you, forcing you to stop.
You look up at him in annoyance, your pretty little lips twisting in irritation as you clench your fists around your shopping bags.
"What are y-you d-doing?"
"I told you," Jungkook seethes, "You need to be at home right now."
"Why-"
"Stop fucking questioning me, ___!"
A few passerby's look at you two, then they hurry on their way.
"Leave. M-Me. Alone. J-Jungkook," You breathe out, trying to stay calm.
You move to get past him but he reaches out and snags your arm, practically dragging you with him as he starts heading toward your place.
You twist and turn, stuttering out demands for him to let you go, but he ignores you.
The walk to your place isn't very far. By the time you can see your apartment building, you've stopped struggling against his hold.
Jungkook pulls you up the stairs and right to your door, where he finally lets you go.
You step away from him quietly and reach up to touch your arm, that's when he realizes how much he fucked up.
He watches as your bottom lip trembles slightly and you keep your eyes downcast, not daring to look at him in fear that he's going to scream at you or something.
"____-"
"That's w-what he did t-to me..."
Jungkook barely hears your words, but he does and his blood runs cold.
"What?" He asks breathlessly, stupidly.
You look back at him, your eyes teary, "He d-dragged me, j-just like you did..."
Jungkook feels his face twitch as you look down again.
When he takes a step closer to you, you flinch.
Jungkook freezes.
"___, I-"
"All I w-wanted, was to h-have a lovely day," You whisper brokenly, "Mina was m-mean to me, now y-you're mean t-to me. What d-did I do that was s-so wrong?"
"Nothing ___, you did nothing wrong," Jungkook speaks slowly and carefully as if you're a frightened animal that will skitter away at the slightest wrong move.
And you might as well be.
You look at him sadly, then you turn and unlock your door before slipping inside and shutting the door in his face before he has the chance to apologize.
Fuck, what the hell is wrong with him?
-
Jungkook doesn't hear from you the next day.
Or the next.
He messages you a few times and tries to call you, but you never answer.
Jungkook is worried sick and Tae is getting tired of seeing the boy pacing constantly and checking his phone every second.
Jungkook even called the police, but they said they couldn't do anything unless you contacted them.
Jungkook told you, he messaged you everything. He explained that he thought Kihyun was stalking you, but he never got a single word in response. It doesn't even say that you read it.
On the third day, Jungkook decides he's got to see you.
He doesn't even know if you're okay.
He drives to your place, his knuckles gripping the steering wheel until they're white.
Jungkook doesn't understand why he's so stressed out.
Maybe it's Kihyun.
Maybe it's the fact that Mr. Ling is sending his men to determine if you're still alive or not.
All Jungkook can do is pray that you haven't left your house.
But why is he even like this?
Tae keeps telling him that he's head over heels, but he knows he isn't. He's never really liked anyone before, but he knows it doesn't feel like this. You're just an irritating person that he feels the need to take care of because you aren't capable of taking care of yourself.
Jungkook pulls into the parking lot and parks his car, then he hops out and makes right for the stairs.
Once he reaches your door, he knocks rapidly three times, holding his breath and praying you'll answer.
A minute later he hears someone shuffling around inside, then it stops.
He's guessing you just looked through the peephole and saw that it was him.
Jungkook bites his lip and pushes down his pride, "___, I know you're in there. You don't need to answer the door, I just need you to look at my messages...please," He sighs and rubs his hand down his face, "Please, ___."
On the other side, you're leaning against the door, a small frown on your face as you listen to him.
You pull out your phone and reluctantly go to his messages that you've been swiping away for days.
After you read his last message, saying that Kihyun was stalking you, you sigh and message him back. Then you turn and walk to your room to keep watching videos on your phone and pushing away the problems in your life.
Jungkook stubbornly stays right where he is, not planning on moving until you answer him in some way. When his phone buzzes, he grabs it and looks at your message.
(duck emoji): thanks for worrying about me, but im not important enough to have a stalker. please just go home.
Jungkook's blood boils and he has to take some deep breaths so that he doesn't end up breaking your damn door down.
He has an internal battle for a bit, then he growls deep in his throat before turning and stalking down the stairs.
-
That night, you're just getting out of the shower, a towel wrapped around your body and one on top of your head, keeping your hair in it to dry.
You go to the kitchen and grab a tub of ice cream out of the freezer, then you skitter to the couch and plop down, grabbing the remote and turning on the drama you're currently binging.
You stuff your face with the sweet treat, not even realizing that there's chocolate all over your face by the time the next episode is coming on.
An hour and a half into your drama binge, the ice cream is on the coffee table, slowly melting as you take a small bite every once in a while.
You're just putting the spoon into your mouth for the hundredth time when you hear something outside your window.
You look over, but the curtains are drawn so you see nothing.
You choose to ignore it and carry on with your night.
Not ten minutes later, you hear another sound, almost like the creak of someone trying to open the glass door leading to your balcony.
Your head whips to the curtain, but again, there's nothing there.
Standing up, you walk over to the window slowly, then pull the curtains open.
Nothing.
You laugh to yourself as all you see is your reflection.
The night sky is officially dark and you can see the moon from your spot by the sliding glass door.
You're about to open the door for a breath of fresh air when to your horror, a face appears from the inky blackness.
A face staring at you through the glass.
A face that isn't yours.
You scream and stumble back, falling onto your butt as you desperately try to keep your towel on.
When you gather the courage to look back, the face is gone.
You're breathing hard, your heart feeling like it's beating out of your chest.
Was it just your imagination?
You stand up shakily, fists still clutching your towel, then you move towards the glass door. The curtains sway gently from when you were holding on to them.
You brave looking out the door, and there's nothing.
The balcony is empty.
You flip the switch by the door and the light turns on on the balcony, but still, there's nothing.
You swallow hard, heart still trying to calm down. Then you check the locks on the door, making sure it's double locked before you turn out the light and pull the curtains closed.
It was just your imagination.
There was no one there.
Just your imagination.
You sit on the couch, still shaken up as you try to go back to watching your show. But after another five minutes, you hear shuffling right outside the glass door and your heart leaps to your throat.
You jump up and run to your room as fast as you can, shutting your door and locking it.
The towel in your hair fell out in the living room, but that's the least of your problems right now. Jungkook's texts from earlier today flit through your mind as you realize that perhaps he was right.
Oh no.
You whimper and run to your window to lock it, that's when you hear your front door swing open.

-
Jungkook is sitting with his head in his hands as Tae looks at him with pity.
"Damn JK, you suck more than I thought when it comes to girls. She doesn't even care that someone is stalking her, she still won't talk to you? That's a harsh blow."
"It isn't that she doesn't care," Jungkook seethes, "It's that she doesn't think she could possibly have a stalker."
"Still," Taehyung yawns, "Well, I'm beat. I'm gonna go to bed, get off my sleeping space."
Jungkook looks at him in disgust, "It's my couch, doofus."
"Not while I'm here buddy, now scram," Tae shoves him off and raises his legs to stretch them out on the couch with a satisfied groan.
Jungkook just rolls his eyes and walks over to the kitchen to get himself some late-night ramen. All that's keeping him sane right now is the thought that you must have at least stayed home, you weren't stupid enough to go out after you know what he thinks is going on.
Are you?
He shakes his head and puts a pan on the stove after filling it up with water. He's about to turn the stove on when a loud ringing sound comes from over by the couch.
"Your phone is ringing," Tae hollers unnecessarily seeing as they're literally not even twenty feet apart, "It's duck emoji girl. Maybe you're not as pathetic as I thought-"
Before Tae can finish, Jungkook is ripping the phone out of his hands and answering it, "Hello?"
"J-Jungkook..."
"Hey, what's up?" He's wondering why you sound so weird like you're muffled and barely speaking audibly.
Jungkook moves out into the hallway and jogs down the stairs until he comes to the mailboxes in the main hall.
"___? What is it?"
He can hear you breathing quietly, but you don't say anything.
"___."
"S-Someone is..."
Jungkook's heart stops in his chest and he's already on the way to his car, thank God he had the car keys in his jeans pocket.
"Someone is what, ___?" Jungkook urges you.
"In the h-house," You say so quietly that Jungkook can tell you're trying not to be heard.
His heart drops to his stomach as he starts to run to the car. He jumps in and turns it on as he tries to help you stay calm.
"Don't hang up, ___. Stay on the line with me, yeah?"
"Ok," You whisper breathlessly.
Jungkook is a speed demon as he ignores every single speed limit sign, thankfully he gets all green lights or he'd be running those red lights too.
The angels are on his side tonight, for no police cars are around to pull him over.
Not that he'd pull over anyway.
"I'm...s-scared."
"Shh," Jungkook hushes you as he makes a sharp right turn, "Don't talk, ___. Just stay on with me, don't say anything."
He can hear you breathing shakily and his heart clenches in his chest.
Please, please, please.
"I'll be there soon," Jungkook mutters, trying to pay attention to where he needs to turn next.
-
When you heard the front door open, you sprang into action. You grabbed your phone that was (Thank you, God) charging by your bed. Then you locked your bathroom door before shutting it, but not going inside.
Instead, you climbed into your giant wardrobe and closed it gently, shuffling yourself into the corner and folding up as much as you could.
You knew if whoever that was made it into your bedroom, the first place they would assume you would be was the bathroom, so you made a distraction.
The first person you thought of, was Jungkook. So, you dialed his number immediately and tried not to breathe too loud.
As Jungkook assured you he would be there soon, you heard someone throwing stuff around in the living room and you couldn't stop shaking.
Why, out of all the people in this apartment complex, were you being robbed? Or stalked, or whatever was happening.
A sudden bang on your bedroom door makes a choked sob slip from your lips, "Jungkook, J-Jungkook he's gonna g-g-g-get inside," You whisper frantically.
"___, I'll be there in two minutes. If he finds you, you fucking claw his eyes out, got it? And kick him between the legs as hard as you fucking can."
"Ok," You choke out quietly, praying it doesn't get to that point.
Then a gentle knock sounds, "___?"
A sickeningly sweet voice calls through the locked door and you shiver in terror, "I know you're in there, sweetheart."
"Jungk-kook," You whimper helplessly.
"You're fine, ___. Just bite, kick and scratch," Jungkook reminds you calmly, even though that's the farthest feeling from where he's at mentally right now.
He's finally turning down the street that leads to your apartment complex, going at least fifty miles an hour, but he doesn't give a flying fuck.
-
The door to your room swings open almost silently, making a chill go down your spine. He didn't break it down...he picked the lock.
Then you hear him by the bathroom and thank your lucky stars that you thought of locking the bathroom too.
"___, you don't understand," He sounds like a child whining for candy, "I just love you, ya know? I know you can love me too. Just come out, please. Don't be scared of me."
You drop your phone into your lap and plug your ears, not being able to stand listening to him speak.
"Jungkook isn't worth it ___, he's trying to kill you, ya know. He wants you dead."
But you're not hearing a word he's saying.
"I've loved you for months, that's how much I love you, so so much. I saw him stalking you, the creep, I know he wants you dead," Kihyun is whispering as he picks the lock on the bathroom door, "But I can't let him kill my pretty girl, that's why you need to come with me. I'll take care of you, promise."
Your hands are still plugging your ears tightly as you hold your breath.
Kihyun hears a small click and a sadistic smile dances across his face, "Got you, babe."
As he's about to open the bathroom door, the sound of tires squealing on the pavement makes him jump up and run to the window. He can see the parking lot from there and his blood runs hot when he sees Jungkook's stupid fancy car screeching to a halt.
"Fucking bastard," Kihyun spits, then he runs out into the living room and hurries to your balcony door, unlocking it before slipping outside.
Jungkook bounds up the stairs two at a time, then he bursts into your house, thankfully it was unlocked. He runs straight for the back, passing by the mess in the living room and slamming your door open. He opens the bathroom door, but you aren't there...
"___??" Jungkook shouts, running to look under the bed. Then he sees your wardrobe and hurries over to it.
He flings open the doors to see you cowering in the corner, covered by some long dresses hanging down. Your eyes are wide with terror as you look up at him.
Recognition flits across your eyes and then your face crumples. You start to sob hysterically as Jungkook kneels down and pushes the dresses away to uncover you.
"___, it's okay. I'm here, you're okay," Jungkook speaks softly as he reaches in to take your shaking hands.
You nod but keep crying your little heart out.
That's when Jungkook realizes you're only in a flimsy little towel. He gets up and grabs the throw blanket from your bed and drapes it over you as you shake like a chihuahua in the corner of the wardrobe.
He dials the cops while you try to calm down, but he doesn't leave your side. He sits outside the wardrobe and keeps a hand on your blanket-covered knee as he speaks to the police, letting you grip his hand like a vice. When he looks back at you, he resists the urge to wipe your mouth after he notices that you have chocolate around your lips.
Jungkook looks away quickly.
You two sit like that for a few minutes, not speaking a word until the police arrive.
The only time Jungkook moves is when an officer wants to speak with you and another asks to speak to Jungkook in the other room.
Jungkook reluctantly leaves your room and tells the officer in the living room everything that happened, not leaving out the fact that he told them time and time again and that now he was going to speak to someone above them about fucking around with civilian's needs.
Safe to say his hatred for cops intensifies tenfold after tonight.
By the time he's able to get back in to see you, you've calmed down considerably, still shaking a little but no longer drowning in your tears.
He sits down outside the wardrobe again and places his hand on your freezing cold foot that's peeking out from the throw blanket.
"Are you okay?" He whispers as the police officers talk amongst themselves.
You give him a tiny nod, your eyes looking into his like you're afraid he's going to disappear. He slowly pulls his hand away, Jungkook isn't used to comforting people, this is awkward for him. He knows you need someone to be there for you, but he doesn't know how. All he and Tae ever do is tell the other to man the fuck up and get on with shit.
That's all he's known since he was fourteen years old.
But like hell he's going to utter those words to you.
He knows girls are different.
He just doesn't understand much else about them.
Jungkook looks away, not able to keep your gaze for long.
But you can't tear your eyes away from him.
You pull the blanket up to your chin, shivering like it's the middle of winter. Your eyes wander over his face, lingering on the small mole under his bottom lip.
Then your eyes sweep up to his dark ones. The memory of that night on Saturday flits through your brain when the lights were shining in his eyes like the stars in the sky.
Swallowing thickly, you finally tear your gaze from his face.
You can't stop shivering so much, it's making you kind of sick to your stomach.
"Jungkook," You whisper softly.
He looks at you and you swallow the lump in your throat, "I d-don't feel good."
"What do you mean? Like, sick?" Jungkook asks.
You nod and he looks around helplessly, "How can I help you?"
"Can you g-get me a bag p-please?"
He nods, moving to stand up, "Where can I find one?"
"Under the b-b-bathroom sink," You whisper shyly.
He nods again and makes his way to the bathroom. He looks under the sink to find grocery bags that you must have saved for the small bathroom trashes.
Jungkook snags one and hurries back to you.
You look a little green.
Jungkook hands you the bag and you whisper a thank you as one of the police officers calls him over.
He leaves you to go and speak with them.
"We're having our men look at the security camera footage and some have already gone to search the perimeter."
Jungkook fights the overwhelming urge to roll his eyes.
They think they're doing the most when they are partly to blame.
"And what about her? How is she supposed to sleep tonight, or ever again?" Jungkook snaps.
The officer nods towards some of his men, "We're going to have two of our officers stay and secure the entrances to the apartment tonight."
After they finish talking, the police leave.
Jungkook runs a hand down his face and walks back to the room to see you sitting on the edge of your bed, your feet dangling as you wrap the blanket around yourself even more.
"I th-threw up," You whisper, ashamed.
Jungkook gives you a small smile, "That's alright."
You look up at him and sniff, holding back more tears that are threatening to spill.
You two stare at each other for a second, then Jungkook snaps out of it and walks to your wardrobe. He grabs a random giant t-shirt and tosses it on the bed next to you.
"You should get dressed."
He turns to leave the room but your voice stops him, "P-Please."
He turns back to you, an eyebrow raised in question.
"I'm s-scared," You whimper.
Jungkook isn't sure how to feel right now. The thoughts that were drilled into him from a young age tell him to tell you it's fine and be done with it. But something he's never felt before tells him to really comfort you.
Jungkook doesn't know how though.
"You're fine," Jungkook says before walking out and shutting the door behind him.
He walks over to the living room, looking around at the mess that fucker left behind.
Fucking coward.
He grabs the little table that's next to your couch and straightens it up, then he takes the plant that must have been on it and puts it back.
There's a bit of dirt left behind on the floor, but you'll have to vacuum it up later.
Next, he straightens out the couch cushions and grabs the container of chocolate ice cream that spilled all over the coffee table.
He tosses the remnants of it and grabs a rag from your sink to wipe up the mess.
After putting a few shoes back on the shoe rack in your shoe closet and closing the door to it, Jungkook looks around.
That's the best he can do for you right now.
Then the door to your room opens and he sees you waddle out in the oversized t-shirt, the blanket still over your shoulders. There are tear streaks down your face and you keep wiping at your clean mouth.
You must have noticed the chocolate and cleaned it off.
You walk closer until you're a few feet from him.
Both of you stare at each other for a moment.
"You'll be safe tonight," Jungkook speaks first, "They have some officers outside, nothing will happen."
You nod slowly.
Jungkook turns to leave, because honestly in his mind he's useless for anything else at this point.
He stops in his tracks though when he hears you say something.
He turns to look at you, not sure what you said.
Your eyes are full of tears as you close the distance between you two.
Jungkook's brain short circuits when you wrap your arms around his waist and stuff your face into his shirt.
"Please-" You hiccup, "Please s-stay with m-me, Jungkook."
