"Not alone anymore" part 1
Space is a weird place, but so was earth so Casey didn't complain. She really didn't miss earth, she was an age up orphan so besides a few casual friends she really didn't have anything waiting for her. But space have every new opportunity awaitng for her and she toke them all, from being chosen has a test embasador to joining a small crew and more reasenly leading her own crew, space become more of a home than earth ever was. She was not going back to her planet any time soon.....
At least that was the plan.
"Why are we here again?" Casey spoke while taking a few empty boxes down the ship.
"Honey be carefull dont over do yourself" th doctor and second in comman of the ship spoke "we need to re-suplied the ship and earth was the closes friendly planet" marcy states while she carried empty boxes in her tentacles to re-stoke.
"Earth friendly? When the pigs fly" the captain complain while also being annoyed by her partner commends.
"What's a pig?" Ask another member of the crew. A very tall rock like golem creature with golden glowing eyes.
"The Sus domesticus" spoke a forth member. A three legged semi-humanoid creature with 6 fingers and 3 eyes "also often called swine, hog, or domestic pig when distinguishing from other members of the genus Sus. is an omnivorous, domesticated, even-toed, hoofed mamma that is commonly ingested by the homo sapiens. Also know has humans" He finish.
"I don't get it?" Says the golem.
"Randal means that they are food sandy" the fith and final member of the crew spoke. A small insect like creature that was carrying the most boxes out of everyone with their physiquic powers and glowing antennas.
"But Atticus, I thought humans eat plants?" The golem said.
"We eat alot of stuff pal. Why you think I have a full room just for my supplies" Casey states while finishing delivering the empty boxes to the station workers.
"I thought you were just a glutton" Sandy states.
"She is. But Humans also need alot of different nutrients to work perfectly" Marcy states "now If only you could eat healthy for once it be great" she states with an annoying tone while her antennas shake.
"I'm eating right. Thank you very much" the captain states annoyed.
"Casey if I didn't know how resileant humans are with food il be putting you in a strict diet" the octopus like creature says while pointing at the human.
"I'm not a kid darling. I can take care of my self" Casey says while walking towards the seekat.
"I'm just looking for you. I'm the doctor of the crew I have to look for everyone" she says while her antennas shake slightly.
"Well I can take care for my self. So can you just leave me be. I don't need you to keep looking for me has if I'm gonna die any second. You are my partner not my babysitter" the human states.
There was silent in the room. The human was staring at the seekat and this one, while laking any face features was equally challenging the stare of her captain wile her antennas shake extremely.
"Ejem" a new voice says, drawing the attention of the whole crew "excuse me ma'am. We are finishing taking the list of all you need. It's gonna take a few hours so you are free to wander the city"
That caught the attention of the crew.
"The city!" Screams Randal, Sandy and Atticus in over joy.
"And since when were aliens welcome in the city. Last time I check, earth was still working hard on trying to break the news of aliens to the world" says the captain a suspicious tone.
"I agree" says Marcy "I know not all humans are ready to embrace life outsides their system" she finish worried.
"That was a decade ago, times change" the worker states while given the captain and the doctor a pamphlet before leaving.
"So where are we going?" Ask the smalles being excited "better be something I get to enjoy. I'm not exactly fit for everything"
"Lets go to a museum!" Randal propose "what better way to relax than absorbing knowledge" He finish.
"Are there any arenas here? I could watch a live fight right now!" Sandy spoke.
The three of them start discussing what would be the best place to go.
"I don't think I have the hearth to tell them there is nothing like that in this city" says the doctor while looking at the pamphlet for something for the crew to do.
"Better find something quick, I can see they are alredy looking for ways to attack" the human spoke.
"Oh really, wouldn't you preffer to look something to do by yourself. Misses leve me alone" the doctor says.
Casey just stare at her partner bewildered.
"Oh yes, we are not finish here. We'll talk later, I wouldn't ruin everyone's fun but we are gonna talk later" the seekat says without looking at the human.
"Right" Casey finish.
"OK everyone. I look at the pamphlet and found something we can all do while we wait for the ship to be re-suplied" the doctor states.
"Awww...." the three beings whine at that while they stop fighting each other.
"We are going..." she pause for a second "to the aquarium!" She finish overjoyed.
"Human aquatic life?" Randal spoke "isn't there something better"
"Yeah, watching fish doesn't sound that interesting" says Atticus while sandy shakes their head in agreement.
"We are going to the aquarium and that's final" the seekat states firmly "now go get redy."
With that say the four creatures go to the ship and get everything they might need for their small adventure.
"Great so, I call the aquarium to buy some tickets and make sure we don't give any worker a hearth attack" Casey says to her partner "sounds right?"
Marcy stays silent for a second before speaking "do wathever you like" she finish before going to the ship.
Casey is leave alone while she re-think on what she says and realize how stupid she is acting. Cursing under her breath while she goes to the ship while she thinks how to Apologize to her partner.
----‐--------------------------------------------------------------
Tried not to give your character any trauma or drama is impossible. Don't worry things get better but you'll have to wait until next part. Cause it was starting to feel to long so a two partners will it be.

Welcome to the tOH fandom!! What do you think of ADHD! Luz (and maybe Eda too!) and autistic!Amity (and maybe Lilith as well)?
thank you!! okay listen this show is so so good for ND headcanons WEIRDOS GOTTA STICK TOGETHER and im like *cries* yea
adhd luz is great. i love it. she’s eager and never runs out of energy, strong emotions & very expressive, can definitely act immature for her age (i saw something saying she’s 14 but idk if thats canon?), has a hyperfixation on learning magic & her azura books. her inability to choose a magic track i would argue could be read as indecisiveness or decision paralysis. and sometimes her own feelings cause her to miss cues from others (like with eda, amity, & king at the carnival). even the way she has to learn magic works as a metaphor - the way other people learn doesnt work for her so she has to adapt and have accommodations (something to draw on). we also see a few instances that suggest she’s not good at reading how trustworthy people are
im totally down for adhd eda but i think i like autistic eda better. she has unusual style (the ripped dress, big earrings, gold tooth - not to mention the times she puts on ‘human fashion’). her speaking voice is unusual too, but is often at a flat effect (absolutely not a dig at the actress i’ve had a crush on her since i was like 9). special interest in owls & weird human objects. learns differently & thinks outside the box, but is still extremely gifted as a witch, she just has to do things her own way. uneven motor skills - very powerful witch & good at sports but also like, just fumbles her staff all the time. seems to get along better with demons (king, hooty, and i’ll count owlbert here too) over other humanoids. did NOT fit in at school. has trouble connecting to and empathizing with people, often says rude things whether she means to or not. tends to show affection through gestures (training, making the cloak) over words or physical affection. does NOT understand why she should have to follow the rules (school, witchcraft, society at large) because they seem arbitrary to her
also - not an nd headcanon and FAR from a perfect metaphor - but my chronically ill ass was just sitting there like 8O SHE HAS TO TAKE HER MEDS OR SHE’LL GO INTO A FLARE and i was just pretty excited about that
jury is still out on lilith for me. i can see autistic lilith though. she’s got flat effect, dulled emotional expression, gifted in her craft, trouble seeing eda’s pov, seems to be low empathy, and from what we see may be fairly gullible. i need to see more screen time from her before i make it an Official Headcanon though. 100% up to hearing other peoples arguments about this
amity is a little harder for me but here’s my headcanon (cw child abuse)
she very well could be autistic. i didnt get a strong Vibe from her one way or the other. but her behavior, to me at least, seems to line up a lot more strongly with childhood trauma. specifically parental abuse. granted we haven’t seen much of her parents yet, but that’s the vibe i got and i’ll explain why
amity is extremely driven and perfectionistic, but it does not seem like she’s self-motivated. it seems like she’s trying to live up to her parents high and strict expectations of her. she wants to be friends with willow, and then later luz, but she can only keep the friends her parents deem are worthy - theyre controlling of her social interactions far more than is normal. she has very low tolerance for her own mistakes, and gets extremely upset when she’s embarrassed or gets into trouble. to me that’s a thing a kid learns at home - mistakes are a big deal (and could be punished in some manner). she’s very awkward at trying to make real friends, which makes me think she doesnt have good role models & her emotional development was not prioritized. in the beginning we see her bully people and gee wonder where she learned that. when she’s training, it’s not her parents or even lilith who are training her - its her older siblings who she doesnt get along with and dont even seem to be on the same track as her? so even though expectations for her as a witch are extremely high, the actual adults are neglecting to help her
when both lilith and eda cheat at the covention duel - amity doesn’t get upset at lilith. she gets upset at luz who is not an adult and is an easy target. lilith and eda are really the ones that embarrassed her, but she doesn’t feel she can get angry at either of them and takes out her emotions lower in the pecking order. we also see that she quit grudgby forever because she accidentally hurt her teammates - which makes me think her anxiety & guilt in general is pretty high. when she does decide luz is cool, she gets Very Attached Very Fast which can definitely be a trauma thing - here is a Safe Person i am now incredibly invested in. when they go into willow’s memories, she’ll do anything to keep luz from seeing how she hurt willow, probably because she’s afraid luz will be disappointed in her (and what? abandon her for not being perfect?) and even her parents in the memory are just shadowy figures and not real people. her biggest fear (which, yes cute gay stuff was happening) is being rejected, which makes me think besides the grom there is an actual threat of that in her life
so ALL IN ALL yes some of these things overlap with autism & i definitely wouldnt argue against an autism headcanon, but to me this just is so strongly childhood trauma stuff that i personally wouldnt hc autism until i know more
also LITERALLY ALL THE CHARACTERS ARE ND thank you for coming to my ted talk good day

do you think you could give some tips on worldbuilding? your worldbuilding is really thorough, and i'd love to get some worldbuilding done, but i dont have any idea where to start. just a quick runthrough of how you do it would be great. Thanks!
Alright, thank you so much for the ask! This… Is Hard to Make Concise, because I don’t follow a set pattern apart from starting Big and going to Small. Fill the big parts of your world before your small parts. I’ll try to make it clearer with the next few paragraphs, but the tl:dr, always start with the big picture, go into niches later. I’ll go into ecology and culture and hopefully, it won’t be too much of a mess.
Ecology: The Natural Systems of the World
Ecology is FUN. There’s so much in the natural world you can draw inspiration from. Before starting this, I’m gonna preface this by saying I am not the best at biology and usually pull it out of my butt.
Whenever I’m worldbuilding, I always start with the biological world and the start of any world is geography and I try to answer these questions:
Geography:
What are the defining features of the landscape?
Where are the mountains?
What does the coast look like? (Maps are sweet for this part.)
What’s the water table like? Are there glaciers?
What biome is in that location? (Eg. Temperate Forest, Taiga, Rainforest, Tundra. Fun fact: the largest biome in the world is the sea floor.) This’ll help you define plant life, and plant life helps determine what animal species there are. Plants are important, y’all.
Biology:
What do the plants look like?
What are your specialists? Your hypercarnivores and giant herbivores shape the world around them a lot. These are your theropods, hyenadonts, elephants, whales and sharks?
.What are your generalists? Think hell pigs, beardogs and well, modern bears. Generalists have a better chance of surviving catastrophes. The mammals, reptiles and birds that survived the end Cretaceous Extinction were small and unspecialized.
Good things for ecology learning: PBS EONS, DND MAPS, BLUE PLANET I and II
Culture: The humanoid systems of the world.
To get this out of the way first: Culture is a system of collective fictions that a group believes in. Money, religion, art, they have no value beyond what humans, elves and dwarves ascribe to them. So, keeping this definition in mind, let’s do some more worldbuilding.
When I worldbuild, I don’t answer questions like I do for ecology, instead, I try to fill out the big five that almost every society, big or small, has.
Knife: This is a weapon, a tool for everything from hunting, to cooking. What does their knife look like? Is it chipped stone or animal bone? Is it bronze or steel?
Bread: Bread really is just grains and water mushed together and cooked. Is it made from big grains or fine flours? Is it sourdough or unleavened? How is it cooked? (Make a bread recipe for your world.
Art: What does their visual art look like? Is it painted, statues? Is it as simple as a handprint on a wall? What sort of music do they listen to? What do their instruments look like? Religion, stories and art often go hand in hand.
Records: Where there’s records, there’s usually an economy, a set of rules. So who sets these rules? Is it an oral tradition or are there physical imprints of it? Cultures without writing usually have an oral tradition. (This is where history is kept, so brief bit: What events/people/cool bit of shiny metal do they see as important?)
Bones: Do they have doctors? Do they bring the infirmed with them? Are the dead buried with any ceremony? How are children treated? The elderly?
Economics:
Despite how the highs and lows of capitalism may make you feel, economics are important. I have these questions I like to have answered with economics:
Are they a barter system or no?
If yes:
What is the equivalency? If someone gives you a chicken, do you fix their shoes?
If no:
What does the currency look like?
What are your cultures' imports and exports, if they have any? (People can be included in this, BTW.)
(Read the Ascent of Money by Niel Furgeson)
Now to tackle the biggest part of a lot of cultures; religion. Religion is… Complicated to say the least. I recommend reading the Reason for God to help with this. When worldbuilding religion, start big and go small. Remember, religions are highly connected to the world around them, for example, the cyclic mythology of Ancient Egypt.
Are they poly or monotheistic?
What values do they ascribe to the gods? Are they caring parents? Apathetic watchers? Vengeful warriors? Horny fuckers with no regard for the wellbeing of the people they’re supposed to be caring for?
Interesting thing I noticed while reading: Goddesses are more likely to where the heart of the values people believe are to be ascribed, which I thought was neat. E.g, in Greek Mythology, Zeus, Poseidon, Hades and the male gods all have these big, undefinable, inhuman realms, like the sky, and the sea and the underworld. In stark contrast, with the exception of Aphrodite, the goddesses have smaller, more human roles. Marriage, the harvest, wisdom, the hunt, the hearth.
Of course, that’s only a thing I’ve noticed in the very few mythologies I’ve got any semblance of knowledge on. This could be completely untrue and I could be talking out of my ass, which happens sometimes.
If they’re polythestic, which gods hold what roles? Which is the god that everyone worships as the most important? (Zeus, Aphrodite, Ra, etc) aka, who’s the boss?
Are there cults?
Resources for religion and culture:
Sapiens
Guns, Germs and Steel
Collapse
Finally, every society should have:
A food source: Agriculture or hunter gatherer? Do they store food for winter?
A water source: Are there wells? Do they irrigate crops?
A way to deal with waste, including, but not limited to: food waste, fecal matter, material waste.
A way to defend itself against disease, invasion or internal disarray.
Tl:dr Read and watch a lot of nonfiction. Start big and go to smaller stuff later. Everything society is built on is a fiction.

(so this is super long and mainly about WTNV because that’s the part I understand, or... at least have spent a lot of time thinking about, but there’s definitely a heavy component of comparison between the two series in this)
@vildflower said: I’ve been thinking how wtnv and tma approach similar concepts of vaguely otherworldly entities who are only somewhat connected to the universe that they seem to operate in vs. the universe that they seem to exist in
so this is all super interesting stuff thank u!!!! I just needed to get to the computer to go over it properly bc tbh it deserves it
vildflower said: like,, tma has the whole concept of rituals and avatars whereas wtnv could arguably have. a hierarchy? like when you think about it;; huntokar, the distant prince, the woman from italy, even the great golden hand, are ancient and possibly the closest to ‘gods,’ who dont interact w nightvale often but either have vested interest in it or are able to interact w it more easily due to number of reasons as compared to, like, the rest of the world?
Part of the reason I listened to The Magnus Archives in the first place was because I’d heard hints of the connection between belief (fear specifically, as it happened) and reality, and the tangible effects that this connection has. I have pretty much always interpreted Night Vale along similar lines, but now having listened to TMA... I don’t feel like the execution is all that similar?
While the lines are super fun to draw, WTNV doesn’t have such clear divisions or, well... I guess TMA didn’t, either, but I don’t think WTNV does have such clear organizational structure?
I think the/a key difference between WTNV and TMA is that not all of the entities of Night Vale necessarily tie back into an overarching force, or at least... the same overarching force. Which you go into, but that’s just such a core aspect of TMA that it at least feels pretty distinct.
And the gods of Night Vale, I think, all have a much clearer and even more “relatable” sentience than the Powers. The gods have trouble communicating with other people, in various ways, but they also, say, express regret or ask for coffee when they do communicate.
vildflower said: and then theres the smiling god who could be said to be in a category of his own, or even perhaps in the same category as cecil- the way the smiling god’s existence seems to be in direct connection to desert bluffs/the joyous congregation and cecil seems to ‘depend’ on nightvale and its residents. or maybe it would be more accurate to equate station management and the smiling god, both finding ways to communicate w their respective towns through 'avatars’: cecil & kevin.
Yeah! If being a “Voice” means anything, I do think it would be related to these gods... I guess it would’ve been Huntokar, once, for Cecil. (And now, well... I don’t know. But if bloodstone worship is just happening, that’s a lot of undirected faith, and I feel like it needs to go somewhere... or to something.) And yup, for Kevin, it would be the Smiling God.
However, one thing I’m hoping we’ll see from this arc is addressing the fact that what the Joyous Congregation THINKS is the Smiling God is apparently really different from what it actually is. Even some of the church elders - the actual pastor - believed that it was the centipede, and this would seem to indicate that’s not true.
I mean, if nothing else It Devours! was pretty clear about the fact that the centipede was just an animal, so I don’t see it or anything like it having plotted or directed someone to exploit people’s brains for labor in the future
So I wouldn’t put the Smiling God in the same category as Cecil, or even Kevin, but I think Cecil and Kevin occupy the same category like you said...
For what it’s worth, I’ve always thought of Cecil more like an “oracle” (even before Alice Isn’t Dead!!) - giving advice or answering questions, kind of a guide, if in a sort of opaque or enigmatic way, whether he wants to be or not. And then Kevin is more like a prophet - offering a vision of how things should be, giving commandments, etc, regardless of what people might ask for or what would help them.
vildflower said: continuing this heirarchy the next lower tier would perhaps be city council and the librarians which have pretty fixed, smaller areas of direct interaction w nightvalians. there’s also the spire! which sounds quite similar to the spiral, i think….
I think that’s a good example of how it’s different... “Barks” sounded like the kind of thing that could have been related to the Spiral, that sort of distortion. But the purpose was different - the Spire wanted to bargain, and from the sound of it it’s a lot more open about its demands (iirc: Night Valian “Thanksgiving” involves going out to thank the Spire for its “mercy”). It’s also a known destination.
People in Night Vale know what it is to them. They may not know what it is exactly, but they do know the role it plays in their community. So while it absolutely fits into the structure of Night Vale, I don’t think it’s that similar beyond some (admittedly major) aesthetic elements?
All of those forces in Night Vale, the librarians and the council etc, while indeed forces and while they definitely relate to the human citizens in weird ways... they’re still citizens.
The Powers are TIED to the world of TMA, but an explicit part of it is that they’re fundamentally alien to it, too, and basically need to be forced in.
vildflower said: but yeah,, hope you don’t mind the long rant rip aksk but at this point I’m pretty sure one could draw up a list of some 15 nightvale entities too lmao
(fdsdgh no you don’t need to apologize, I loved it and I’ve been thinking about this kind of thing a lot anyway too!!)
vildflower said: HOW COULD I FORGET! the glow cloud interacts w an even smaller group of people (the PTA) than the city council + angels!! I’d say they’re actually at the lowest rung cause they seemed to only be interested in josie; maybe their attachment to them in turn lead to be attached to nightvale even after she died?
actually the Glow Cloud works w/ the school board and seems to end up in conflict w/ the PTA and I only remember this because I was checking on it for something recently oops.
ALSO THE ANGELS... YEAH THAT’S NEAT because!! they’re the only part of this that has an explicit connection to belief in canon!!
“They are all named Erika with a K. All angels are equal to all other angels. They share all memories and all physical sensations. They experience everything simultaneously. Their minds are overwhelmed with enlightenment and pain.
“They have no centralized leadership, but they do have committees, lots of committees. These committees do not have titles nor objectives. The committees simply emerge as needed...
“Angels have no bodies, only visual projections of winged, barely humanoid forms. These forms are dreamed up by those who see and acknowledge them, and may vary based on the viewer.
“The secret hierarchy of angels is an ethereal mass of feelings and thoughts made manifest by necessity. They’re only individual beings because we imagine them so, but they are collectively beings.”
But I think, yeah... Night Vale is, at its core, a community. And the worldbuilding of WTNV reflects that, even to the extent that belief is involved. I mean, really, the world does run on “belief” it’s just not a supernatural thing... We believe in the necessity of our social structures, so we create and act on them.
And that’s what happens in Night Vale, it’s just that in Night Vale, a divine Glow Cloud runs the school board and the librarians will eat you. All the “forces” that we expect are there. Even though they’re strange (to us, at least), it’s all centered around the maintenance of a community. TMA has a much larger scope.
theres that whispering forest too and omg the desert otherworld, and the black star in ‘a story about you’ & other episodes; entities that manifest more as locations than sentient beings?
So yes!! Night Vale as a place is definitely a gathering point for the weird. I think of Hiram’s favorite memory in this context, too - Hiram was happy in Night Vale because he could just live, for a while, anyway. Or at least, when people were upset, they weren’t upset by his nature as a five-headed dragon (who cares, right?) but because of what he did)
It does have a clear structure, but it’s not the same kind that the Powers operate under - WTNV (depending on interpretation, and none of it is canon tbh, as much as I love it) and TMA are both very different explorations of the connection between belief and reality.
Like the Whispering Forest is... well, apparently it’s its own town now. But it was sort of the local weird forest; it was... a citizen, maybe. In the way, indeed, that the Glow Cloud still is! It just wants to live (and grow. and expand) and Night Vale is a place it can do that.
The Desert Otherworld seems to be connected to the Smiling God, although we don’t know much about how or why or if it’s always been that way. Dana saw some things, though, like when she almost forgot herself in the image of a triangle (iirc), not to mention the rumbling and whatever’s up with the Mudstone Abyss... And then it does have its connection to Night Vale, too, through the Dog Park... There’s a LOT going on w/ the Otherworld; that’s basically its own post dsfdgfdg
And the dark planet lit by no sun is like. I admit I’ve never thought of it in the same light as the other things before! So I’d want to do that before going into it but that raises some SUPER interesting possibilities and if you have more thoughts I’d love to hear them! It definitely merits that further consideration.
So in summary: TMA has rituals and avatars, and WTNV has community. I think.
