so . ok here goes nothing. first things first.

this is like the “fisherman meets mermaid and they are in love” AU trope but jamil isnt a fisherman: he pretty much retained his canon life, aka he is a servant and one day he found a merman and he just hangs around him to escape from his shitty life situation (and the merman is completey enamoured).

so, apart of NRC not happening, more details about the canon divergence should be revealed at a later date

this is a trope ive seen around a lot, especially on twitter, so ive had this idea since a bunch of months ago. i then proceeded to forget about it until i saw a twitter post about this same exact trope again except it was with fucking miguel o’hara but thats besides the point. the original post that made me get the idea were 2 ocs (they had the blood-cut-to-call-merman idea. I completely stole it from that. im coming clean) and i was like “wow do you know who else is a mermaid? azul fucking ashengrotto”

ok so no the art style i used. i started using it really recently to doodle stuff, since 2 days ago actually im so serious. i tried using it here as well bevause its an easy art style, really quick to draw with it and also looks good. or so i thought. because im now having doubts about wether it looks good or not and i fear it might just look weird. i kinda wanna hear if people prefer this art style or my “actual” one from my other posts

this style looked way better when i used it to doodle stuff, but i dont think im capable of using it in comic format. the style i was going for is mostly evident in the colored “poster” because ive actually redrawn the comic sequence a bunch of times so the style was lost there. I do like how the “poster” looks but im not sure if y’all would agree so id love to hear wyt

now the biggest part. ive never made comics in my life!! so these are going to look so damn akward. u can already notice it here!!!!! crowd starts booing

also i cant draw water and also i dont know how to draw azuls octo patterns bc the material we have of his design are so vague and fragmented but his patterns are not easy to draw so im struggling and i need to make a reference of him for myself 😭😭

☆ pairing: zeke jaeger x pieck finger ☆ summary: when pieck traveled to faraway trost for a prestigious research position, she expected to feel lonely. what she last expected was to find a bit of home in her supervisor. ☆ warnings: chronic illness mentioned ☆ tags: modern AU, academia AU, slow-burn, hurt/comfort, friends to lovers ☆ a/n: zeke and pieck meet properly this chapter aaaa ヾ( ˃ᴗ˂ )◞ • *✰ i had a lot of fun writing their dialogue (esp one part in particular hehe) and can't wait to build this relationship out more >:) masterlist

Once she got over the initial surprise of Dr. Jaeger's youth, Pieck was pleased that she was able to get back on her feet and into her professional mode reasonably well. Trying not to feel flustered at how attentively he was watching her, Pieck began her prepared opening.

"Well, Dr. Jaeger, thank you for meeting with me," she said, doing her best not to speak too quickly. "I find your research genuinely interesting, so it truly is an honor to be considered." Pieck internally winced; she had been counseled time and time again by Magath to be less obsequious. You know at least twice as much as those morons you're always cowering before, he would say to her with all his trademark bluntness. You deserve to be where you are, and you deserve just as much as respect anybody else. But old habits died hard, and Pieck was just too used to bowing low before authority figures.

Luckily, Dr. Jaeger did not seem to change his demeanor. "I am pleased to hear that my work intrigues you so, Miss Finger, and I can see why you reached out to me," he replied with a polite smile. Something about the crows feet that appeared at the corners of his eyes put Pieck a bit more at ease.

"I saw from your CV that your research interests lie in nonaddictive drug therapies for chronic illness," he continued. "Your experience is certainly pertinent to the work we do at TITANLab. Theo had nothing but praise for you, I should add."

Pieck did not have time to shroud the confusion from her face. Theo? Then it hit her.

"Oh, do you know Professor Magath?"

Zeke gave her a sidelong glance, for some reason.

"Well, perhaps it was a bit before your time. He did work briefly as the chemistry teacher at the local school before becoming a professor full time. He and I first became acquainted there, in fact, but have encountered each other professionally since."

Pieck was embarrassed at how slowly the cogs in her mind were turning that morning, but she truly had no idea what Dr. Jaeger was talking about.

"Professor Magath lived in Trost? I don't remember that, I thought he was in Liberio all along."

Dr. Jaeger now looked lost as well; Pieck's panic rose. Oh God, does he think I'm an idiot? What's going on?

"Trost? When was Theo in Trost?"

"Well, you had said that Professor Magath had taught you in secondary school, so I just assumed...I thought you were from Trost, I apologize for making that assumption. And I am sorry for the confusion, Dr. Jaeger," Pieck stammered out. Usually in situations like these, she found that if she apologized enough, misunderstandings were easier to smooth over. This certainly was one of the more opaque misunderstandings she had encountered, though.

Dr. Jaeger just looked at her for a long time. The longer he looked, the more Pieck felt any semblance of hope leach out of her. All at once, the confusion dissipated from his face. It was replaced, mystifyingly, with a bashful smile.

"Pieck, do you perhaps...not remember me?"

At the familiarity of her first name in his voice, Pieck felt the color rise embarrassingly in her cheeks. He addressed her as though they were well acquainted already. When he called her Pieck, they almost sounded like equals, rather than a student researcher out of her depth and a prodigy of a professor.

Pieck imagined how amusing it might be if she also dropped formality and addressed him as Zeke. Zeke. Why does that name feel familiar?

Pieck clapped her hands over her mouth.

"Oh my goodness! Yes, I'm so sorry! Zeke! It's been so long, I'm sorry, I didn't recognize you with your — " she gestured weakly at her chin, unable to even complete the sentence.

This was certainly one interview scenario she had not prepared for.

When she focused on Dr. Jaeger's — Zeke's — face, when she erased his beard and glasses, when she mussed his hair up a bit (purely in her imagination, of course), she saw him. The tall, pale, sullen boy who had been in some of her classes in spite of being four to five years her senior, as she recalled. The talk in her class was that he had to retake a few courses due to his poor performance; the secondary school in Liberio had been small enough that remedial classes for older students meant sitting in with younger students. Socially, it was a potential pressure cooker, but Pieck recalled that he had gotten on reasonably well with his younger classmates. He had even broken up fights with her more tempestuous peers, now that she thought about it. And he had always been polite to her.

Pieck was overwhelmed with surprise. She had never expected that quiet boy, who seemed so apathetic about school, to become an illustrious and well-known professor like this. Then again, she had never expected herself to rise even to the level she had. They all had their own paths to tread; some were just more circuitous than others.

"Yes," Zeke replied with a small smile, "I suppose I would look somewhat different now, what with my," and he mimed pointing at his beard the same way she had. Is he...making fun of me?

It was more than the beard that had rendered him unrecognizable; Pieck was certain he understood this too. It was strange seeing him so confident, when she remembered him being anything but. Most of his classmates treated Pieck and the other younger students with gleeful disdain, glad to have children below them in the pecking order as only teenagers could be. Zeke had been so different; he had been kind to them, but with a thirst to be accepted. Even Pieck's younger self could detect this; she recalled wondering why he cared so deeply about the opinions of her snotnosed and annoying little peers. More than anything, he had seemed so desperately lonely.

If there was one thing Pieck understood, it was loneliness.

Once she realized he was her old classmate, Pieck was blessed with the ability to interact with Zeke (Dr. Jaeger, she corrected herself) with much more ease and comfort. She suspected that the breakdown of the barrier benefited him as well, as he spoke to her much less stiffly (albeit still formally, as he always had even as a child).

At the end of the interview, Pieck dared to hope that it had gone well. Zeke's research specialty and pet project had to do with using existing hormones to inform medication courses. What was especially unique was his interest in the hormonal secretions found much more frequently in Eldians. Pieck understood now why he had come to Paradis to do his research; such a project would have an uphill battle securing funding in Marley. Even the academic medical texts in Marley frequently omitted Eldians altogether. Pieck, having combed through medical books and journals with her limited expertise for any possible source of succor for her father, was intimately aware of the unfortunate consequences of this omission.

The idea of someone, anyone, conducting research on how to help Eldians find proper treatments and medications brought a bone-deep sense of relief to Pieck.

Between their shared interests and shared past, Pieck felt remarkably at ease with Zeke now. Enough so that she chanced asking,

"What do you think? Do you think I'd be able to work with you? I understand you must be busy, and that you must have so many applicants, but —"

Zeke must have felt equally at ease, for he actually laughed. (Pieck had never heard him laugh before; she was unsure if he ever had even smiled during their short acquaintance in school, let alone laughed).

"Oh, I hope you were not anxious about that! I was already intending to bring you on after seeing your resume and Theo's recommendation. I apologize if I was unclear, this was more of an informal interview for me to know more about you. Finding out more about your research interests just confirmed for me that this is the right decision."

He then rose from his chair, heading to the door to open it for her. Pieck felt her tense shoulders sag; she was giddy with relief and excitement, and attempted in vain to steady her voice.

"Thank you so much Dr. Jaeger, I truly appreciate this!"

Zeke turned back over his shoulder at her with a conspiratorial grin that made her cheeks and ears grow hot.

"Anything for an old school chum," he replied. "And do call me Zeke, please. Hearing you say Dr. Jaeger makes me feel even older."

Pieck's combination of adrenaline and sleep deprivation made her unable to fully trust what she saw, but she could have sworn that Zeke winked at her after saying that.

actual worst part of writing: those frustrating periods of time when the words just...won't come. There are times when the writing flows (amazing feeling) and times when it feels like I've never written anything good and will never be able to form a sentence again lmao. ALSO just in general, second drafts are hard. like getting the words to actually flow the way you want can be a frustrating process

how you choose your titles: almost always from a song lyric or line from a poem. every once in a while I'll have an original thought for one though, but I have yet to use any of them :/ I have a whole separate google doc of potential fic titles that I add to whenever I think of something

do you outline: yes and poorly lol. you should see my google drive folders for my writing, it's a wonder I'm able to get anything done at all. it's a mess in there

ideas I probably won’t get around to, but wouldn’t it be nice?: I'd love to write a -sokka goes out on his own after the war and zuko doesnt become firelord and they accidentally meet up on their travels and then fall in love- au but I just don't have the time at the moment. maybe some day.

callouts @ me: just calm down. take a break when it's not clicking and eventually everything works out. it always does, but you forget this literally every single time...

spicy tangential opinion: uhhhhhhhhh if you're able to, you should always leave comments on works you like. you don't have to give crazy detailed thoughts or anything but nice comments are REALLY effective at motivating writers to keep going, more so than a kudos. it's always nice to hear what parts are resonating with people though, so if something really struck you in a story, even if its just a small moment, tell the author! it makes their day, i promise you

best writing traits: ?? I hate answering questions like this LOL not even trying to be like..humble or whatever. I genuinely don't know. I like my dialogue a lot, and I think I'm pretty good at finding each character's voice? I like the way I incorporate senses to set a scene. The ~flow of my writing has gotten better over time too, so I'm proud of that. Other than that you guys will have to tell me if there's something specific lol

OKAY so i genuinely want to get back into indie. naturally, due to Obvious Circumstances i’ve been feeling very shall we say.. hopeless, but i’d love a couple more close partners where we can do a zillion ships and write all the amazing things together. i also write on d*scord if anyone is interested in that. i’ll cut to the chase on my turn on and turn offs under the cut so like-minded writers hmu, or i’ll be trollin’ around myself for some new blogs to follow. if i used to write with you, or we have ships but haven’t written lately, i am more than happy to pick those up as well.

clichés. all the clichés. i’m the biggest and there’s only one bed bitch in the entire world and i’m not ashamed, so don’t ever worry about the plots being too corny bc i am absolutely here for it !

characters with tons of backstory. also, all the random headcanons you have for your muses. literally hmu with their fav flavour of gum –- i want all the details, scream to me about every single one.

angst. all the angst.i love fluff and humour as a way to take the edge off all the angst i tend to throw at muses.

diverse muses! muses of colour, of course, and non-binary muses, trans muses, muses with disabilities, literally everything. i also write a variety of muses from all backgrounds and prefer to write with diverse muses.

making playlist, pinterest boards, and tags for our ships. i will send u like 100 tiktoks of our ships so just like be rdy!

platonic ships. creating cousins, siblings, chosen families, friends, etc. people are often different in their platonic relationships than in their romantic relationships, and this helps me develop my muses SO much and i just love them, genuinely.

AUs / multi-verses. fantasy verses. hp verses. or just realistic verses where they’re aged up or really anything else. i love taking a ship and exploring every pocket of it outside of the one we created them in.

no gender ratios. i don’t keep track of gender ratios bc gender is irrelevant and i personally think we should stop surrounding our characters identities around their gender ( unless their plot line specifically calls for it ). if you want to just throw anyone at me, i’m not paying attention to how many males or females or rly any gender you are suggesting. i don’t care! i care more about their backstory & personality thanks!

things i don’t like :

introductory threads. if it’s really good, i can vibe with it, but they ‘hey what’s your name’ type threads aren’t it. i love established ships, which is why i prefer to plot first, otherwise i feel like it gets stuck in an awkward beginning phase because they’re very repetitive to write out. actually, once the ship has plotted out more, i rly like doing flashback to their intro threads. 

not plotting. and not in a sense of i need to plot out threads, but rather i like getting an idea of how they met, how they’d feel about each other, what type of dynamic they have, etc. then i’m happy to throw them into any thread – it helps me get into my muse’s head much more easily. i tend to work backwards with my ships.. figure out how they’d vibe then tackle the beginning details of how they’d get there.

lack of muse information. i wanna know everything, so rly bombard me with as much detail as you want, i prefer this !

lack of diversity or respect for diversity. i don’t do diversity just for the token and for the sake of it, but that’s just me and i find myself drawn to more dynamic muses. i’m not saying all our ships / plots have to be with diverse muses, but it’s something i do consider !

romanticizing heavy topics. i don’t mind plots with heavy topics like mental illness, cheating, etc. but i don’t like romanticizing these topics. i love writing out realistic scenarios, i just like to keep it respectful !

to add on to the above note: disrespecting queer muses. specifically mlm muses. i write gay men and i prefer not to reduce them to sex positions nor fetishize them in a way that strips them of identity and humanity. 

writing graphic smut. it’s not my thing, but i don’t mind nsfw headcanons and exploring that side of a ship.

But actually I base my designs for Kirishima’s casual clothes completely on his official casual clothes (which is to say, his shifuku) and the stuff he’s worn in canon already ( x x x x x ) - people consider him a fashion disaster for the crocs, mostly, and I guess the patterns of his shirts? Ah, personally I don’t dislike either so I guess he doesn’t come off as a disaster in my doodles hahaha

I’d lie if I said I don’t have a couple of doodles saved somewhere in my art folder, but to be fair my gb Baku and Kiri are... exactly like Baku and Kiri, I wouldn’t really change them all that much, so I never find it much worth it to talk about it? I think Bakugou might have been a bit different in backstory since being a girl would have made people less, uh, sure he was destined to beat All Might or whatever, but in general he’d stay the same imho. Kiri too, he wouldn’t change all that much either. Their designs also, their quirks require them to be buff after all. I dunno man I just don’t think them being girls would change all that much about them so my ideas on this specific aus are always a bit eh, sorry!

That was actually a small variation of a scene already present in the manga (central panel here) so being as objective as I can be I’d say it was just bones playing on how much fans love the ship - that said, it’s still canon to the manga that Kirishima didn’t trust Bakugou where he couldn’t keep his hands on him and make sure he was there and safe? That’s adorable and I’ve been crying over that for two years now ;^;

Hello! I am a fandom old who is genuinely curious about what kin is :o

This is going to be super long, so I’ll put it under a read more

so “kin” refers to “otherkin” which is generally thought to either be very ridiculous or very serious or somewhere in between, like most things are.

For people who are pretty serious about otherkin, it can be defined as a spiritual thing.  You feel a deep connection to something, like a mythological creature, an animal, or a fictional character––so much so that you think that thing is, in some sense, you.  You can feel it on the same level as you can feel your gender, or you can sorta feel it like an echo from a past life.  It’s a range.  

Historically, the term “otherkin” came from message boards in the early to mid 90s, from a fringe group that believed they were/are elves.  It referred to people who were NOT elfkin/elfinkin.  They (elfkin) had manifestos and everything. Mythos and whatnot.  The community grew from there to encompass what it is now.

Otherkin is a general term for the community of people who don’t feel entirely human, but Therian specifically defines a person who feels like they are, on some spiritual level, an animal.  This is usually something like a past life sense, and sometimes it’s really integral to someone’s behavior and understanding of the world.  

Fictionkin (fickin) describes this same phenomenon/sensation, but the person feels this way about a character or a variety of characters, usually connected by some personality trait, but not always.

Factkin are people who identify with literal and historical real people who have existed, and this is generally frowned upon in all circles.

Sometimes people feel like they have memories from these past lives.  Other times, it just really feels like that thing is a part of who you are.  Some people decide to express this kind of thing via art or dress, or stim boards and such.  Many otherkin I know are mentally ill, and kin stuff helps them cope.

People generally fall into the categories of “I am otherkin/fictionkin/therian,” “I think that’s ridiculous, so I will make fun of it” or “i don’t understand it, so I won’t say anything” (my personal favorite).  Recently, instead of tagging things with “mood” or “same” or “relatable,” people will tag things with “kin”.  People like to make fun of otherkin because some people are pretty racist in their practice (because it actually is pretty spiritual if you talk to these people who are really into it), or they have “kin memories” that are problematic and, in the case of fickin, differ heavily from the source material, or even add something terrible to it.

Kin theory, as I like to call it, is based largely on the idea that either past lives exist and people can retain some memories of their past life, OR on the idea of the multiverse.  In the multiverse, basically there’s an AU for everything, including you, so there are multiple yous spanning infinite possibilities, and it’s entirely possible that the you that exists right now is part of a fictional universe in some other parallel timeline.  Therefore, you may have memories of that universe.  Likewise, if you’re an animal in another life, you can feel that either through some sort of echo from a past life, or an echo across the multiverse.

Currently, there is a substantial witchy part of the kin community.  That was just an interesting thing I found recently.  there are people who are of other religions that really feel the kin stuff, though.

Lots of people make fun of this kind of thing, which is fair because everyone makes fun of established religion too.  But I recently saw that a lot of ppl use the word “kin” like “me” and “same” and “mood” so I was interested in seeing if people also wanted to know some more history.  People also tend to really hate on otherkin, which in my personal opinion, is super rude.  But that’s largely because I am against people making fun of others’ spirituality, not because I am otherkin (which I technically am).  I find that the kin community at large has many, many problems within it, none of which are usually addressed when harassing people from the community.

Sebastian thinking of how everyone else sees him as deeply caring for Ciel's wellbeing, which he does with only one intent in mind - seasoning Ciel's soul to add to the 'delicacy' level he desires. Ciel knows this, so even despite living together for three years, he knows Sebastian's 'worrying' and 'affection' are all feints. However, maybe after a particularly bad nightmare, or after Sebastian doing something kind out of apparently no reason, Ciel seems to genuinely be grateful. What are Sebastian's thoughts on this? Maybe something dark and manipulating, kind of in the league of his words in the Green Witch arc when he's burning the laboratory? Or the other way around? Your choice. What I meant with no shipping is because I would prefer if this 'affection' I mentioned wouldn't be taken by you as romantic.
