CONCEPT DOODLES for an AU I dabbled in with a few friends after the winter king episode but kinda forgot about after the Fionna and Cake finale... I decided to revisit it and explore a little more after coming to terms with everything LOL... So, it's another "Winter King doesn't die immediately after his crown gets nuked" AU, but THIS TIME he's just dying really slowly (like Simon in the Betty episode) and ALSO joins Fionna, Cake, and Simon on their search for magic crowns. There's no logic behind this tbh, we just wanted to put him through The Horrors. And make them all friends. But mostly The Horrors. :) (he only gets to live as a treat, because I think he's funny).
Bonus (old screenshot), because this is still funny to me:

Things that cannot defeat the TARDIS...
Being jettisoned into the Z-Neutrino energy core of the Dalek Crucible.
Being turned into a self cannibalising paradox machine by The Master.
Being shunted into a human body while it's own body gets possessed by a sentient TARDIS devouring asteroid.
Things that can defeat the TARDIS...
One cup of coffee with a splash of cold milk.

fionna's world being represented by a dandelion makes so much sense ... they're weeds. yet people make wishes through them, changing their whole meaning from something meant to be destroyed to something hopeful.
dandelions are also resilient and it makes sense that something associated with them would. you know. perservere despite the destruction caused by the scarab.
but ultimately i think what REALLY made me tear up over this is that dandelions are really boring plants. when you're a kid you blow on them and make your wish but they're not eyecatching or anything but still, fionna's final wish was for her old world to still exist as it was when she left it (> plain and simple. boring even).
like the moment she realized she would lose her friends, and that her friends might forget each other if the world got its magic back, she immediately decided she didn't want it and I think that ties back to the dandelion metaphor so well... like, do you really need magic to be real to find it everywhere? or can you turn something boring into something magical?

sanji casually mentioning his trauma after wci in the middle of normal conversations must be both the funniest and the saddest concept i've ever seen. like he just suddenly has no filter and it's like:
[zoro and sanji fighting]
sanji: is that all you've got, marimo?! my brothers hit me harder when i was like 9!
zoro, suddenly stopping: curly brow what the fuck???
luffy, grinning: sanji's food is always the best!
sanji, frowning: you look like my dead mom
luffy: huh?
robin, finding sanji with a t-shirt in the middle of the night: aren't you cold?
sanji: i'm used to cold since my dad locked me up alone in a cell with an iron mask when i was a kid
robin: understandable
chopper: sanji!!! you're bleeding!!!
sanji: huh? oh, it's fine. i'm a man.
chopper: BEING A MAN DOESN'T STOP YOU FROM DYING
usopp: thank you, sweetie
sanji: my dead mother used to call me that
usopp: sanji, babe, what?
brook: you and usopp are a perfect match! any thoughts on marriag-
sanji: i'm extremely afraid of commitment and intimacy after my ex-fiancée tried to kill me so i don't know if we are having a wedding anytime soon
brook: yoho... ho ho?
nami: aw, thanks, sanji-kun! you're always so nice to us!
sanji: if i'm not liked by everyone around me i will kill myself
nami: are you okay?
sanji: ... that's a question you don't want the answer to, nami-swan

"In this world, I'm known as...the Winter King" 🌨❄️🌬
This cosplay was so so close to never seeing the light of day, as this was the aforementioned project I rage quit to procrastinate with Nekomancer on haha. I really adored the fionna and cake special (and adventure time in general) and wanted to cosplay from it for eons...although I will admit this project was intended to be "generic blue and silver winter regal outfit for a variety of characters" and it was a toss up on whether or not the first run was going to go to the Winter King/Simon or Jack Frost...but I couldn't find my jack frost wig so here we are!
This was my first time working a lot with velvet and low key....I loved it and would love to use it more.

Alright so I want to add my own two cents to the latest Simon and Betty news from episode 8.
Already I’ve seen so many people talk about how their relationship could be toxic. However, to simply label it as such just because we got more detail completely misses the point of what their love story represents for both their characters. Their relationship isn’t toxic — it’s just a tragedy.
Yes, I agree with you guys — there is a bit of a power imbalance and implied age gap. But that doesn’t mean their relationship isn’t healthy. The main trait that is toxic is their co-dependency for one another as they become too blind in their passion that they cannot envision living without the other. Going to any extremes necessary to be together again.
That is the common theme of their story. This is why their love is a tragedy and it is what fuels both of their character arcs.
But we already know this. I personally love episode 8 because it gives us a glimpse of a “what if” for Simon and Betty. Besides the negatives we discuss earlier, they have mutual respect for one another. Betty idolizes him, but she also doesn’t shy away from pointing out new ways of thinking that he never considered. Simon doesn’t take advantage of this. In fact, he respects her knowledge and even goes along with her suggestions during their expeditions because they worked, even if they were a bit unconventional.
Also, to simply negate their relationship and label it “toxic” after being given this context completely undermines Betty’s character. She knew he would pick up the book they both reached for, so she left a note — knowing he would find it. And it worked.
Once they confessed, yeah, she could’ve still left for the Outback. I’m sure Simon would’ve let her go since they established they care for each other. He probably would’ve planned a trip to go after her. But the crucial detail is that she chose to stay.
And that is in line with her character. Time and time again, Betty has always chosen Simon before herself, even to her own downfall. There’s even an AT episode where they address this! To ignore this aspect of her character removes her agency. She chose Simon above all else, even at the start of their relationship! She chose him, and he chose her.
Who knows, maybe if the mushroom war never happened and the Simon never found the crown, they would’ve lived happily together. But their love story is not toxic — it’s a passion that would’ve been so lovely and pure had the circumstances been right. And that’s why it is a tragedy.
Not toxic, just a tragedy.
