Heheheheheh IKEA Willex!!!! My beloved that I really need to finish!

For anyone who isn't familiar, IKEA Willex is a meetcute setup where Alex is at IKEA looking for a new bedframe(Cause Luke and Reggie broke his old one by jumping on it whenever he wasn't home), and runs into Willie, who is attempting to get a race car bed as a combo of getting furniture for his new apartment and 'healing his inner child' or whatever his therapist kept calling it. They end up searching together :D

Let's see, random facts you don't already know about it.... I guess this is more about the extended universe than this fic itself, but please know that Alex and Willie get a giant race car bed when they move in together eventually! Cause YES!

Snippet!

"How goes the search?" Alex asks.

"Not good," Willie sighs, leaning back against the fake wall. "I know they have them here cause I looked online, but I haven't found any yet and I've been here for an hour."

Alex winces sympathetically. "When did you get here?"

"Like… 11:30?" Willie answers.

Alex glances down at his watch, then back at Willie, then back at the watch. "Ummm, you've only been here for like 20 minutes then," he informs them.

Willie stares at him for a solid minute, then drops his head back against the wall and groans again. "I'm doomed."

Okay! Willie Touch Issues Ace Stuffs!

This one takes place post canon sometime and was born from the idea that Caleb tended to use touch to manipulate Willie. Caleb is gone now and Willie is free, but like... the boy has some trauma. And sometimes he has moments of being terrified of turning out to be just like Caleb. Sooooo he has a bad day where he sort of can't stand to touch Alex or anyone else cause he's terrified that he's somehow manipulating them just like Caleb did.

And there's a whole other level to it with Alex cause Willie is ace and sex repulsed. Alex is probably ace too, cause I can't write allo characters to save my life, but maybe more sex neutral/favorable. So Willie is freaking out that maybe he's manipulating Alex by touching him cause somehow he's promising something he doesn't actually want. It's a whole thing. Anyways, Alex finds him and they'll be okay. When I actually finish writing it.

Snippet!

No, no thinking about him. Today was supposed to be good. He had to focus on something else. They hung a tight left, not even sure where they were anymore, and swerved a little to avoid some more lifers. Maybe tonight Reggie would talk the rest of the gang into watching A New Hope again. While Star Wars wasn't Willie's main thing, he could appreciate the art form, and it always made Reggie happy. But did Willie really think it sounded fun to watch something just because it made his friend happy? Had Caleb been right all along? Was Willie like him? Willing to do whatever it took to get what he wanted, even if it involved hurting people or forcing them to do things they didn't want?

Suddenly, Willie collided with something solid, tumbling to the ground as their board slid out from under their feet. He groaned, rolling onto his back on the cold sidewalk, looking around for whatever it was he’d run into. They froze as their eyes locked on blonde hair and pink fabric.

“Hey Wils,” Alex groaned, sitting up and looking down at him. “Sorry, I didn’t even think about how that would go if you were moving.”

I was tagged by @redvanillabee​ to show my notes for WIPs. (Original post here.)

The thing is, though, I don’t usually have much - it’s typically either a brainstorming back-and-forth in email or chat that I really can’t share without the other person’s permission, or a couple lines at the top of the document indicating what happens ... or nothing at all. 

You know what I do have, though, is all the notes for Black Water Rising. I was just poking through my older stories to see if I could find anything with coherent notes at all, and ran across the detailed notes at the top of that file. I recall that I was writing this on the fly as I wrote the rest of the fic. See annotations.

This is the starting synopsis:

Peggy, Sousa & Thompson are trapped in an underground bad guy lair during a storm. The place seals off and starts to flood. Thompson is trapped in a lower part of the complex (they find some kind of metal-barred grille, so they can communicate, but they can't really help as the water fills it up). They have to try to free him as well as themselves.

[So this part was what I started out with - just a basic synopsis of what the fic was about. I think I wrote about a third of the fic before I started to get snarled up and realized that I needed to stop and list out different stuff that could happen to them and figure out what order it needed to happen in.]

On revisions, I need more of Jack mansplaining to the ones up above.

Middle part:

Jack loses his radio while climbing up to get a piece of angle iron from the wall, so they can't communicate with him anymore.

Peggy sees the waterfall - it's at some kind of large bricked-in shaft w/grille near top

Peggy notices that the concrete is extra crumbly at the hangar

Peggy finds a paint pail and pry bar

Peggy & Daniel try using the pail/bar combo to pry up the grate; it fails

Peggy and/or Daniel turn the paint can lid into a tool for digging concrete out of the shaft

Battery runs down on Daniel's flashlight

Jack shows up (swimming), startling them; he actually managed to climb up & retrieve a length of angle iron. He passes it up through the grate to them. They try to pry up the grate w/that & fail.

[So IIRC, I had these initially listed in random order as they occurred to me, then shuffled them around until I had them in an order that made the most sense for building tension.]

[Then the ending leaped into my brain fully formed and I wrote a pretty detailed synopsis of it before it got away.]

How the end goes:

The water is nearly up to the top of the grates and Peggy & Sousa are trying to break the grate free w/out luck. (At some point they have the idea of using Jack's belt to tie him to the grate, so he doesn't have to constantly tread water, especially since he's having to float on his back to breathe. This might not happen 'til he's in the hangar bay, though.) Then Peggy remembers the crumbly concrete at the hangar bay. She tells Jack she has an idea, but he's not going to like it: she thinks they can get the grates off the vents in the hangar bay much more easily, but he's going to have to swim there. She sends off Sousa to start working on it. This is when she & Jack have some kind of pep talk & he tells her, the don't-leave-me thing and he's worried that he wouldn't stay himself, that he'd never be the bottom guy on the ladder. (Sousa doesn't hear this conversation.)

Anyway, she gets him to swim off & then takes off herself. Maybe they use radios to stay in touch through this but Jack's dies because of the dunking. However, he does make it to the hangar bay. She & Sousa struggle w/the grates. Jack thinks he ought to do the heroic thing, let go and drown so they can go spend their energy on getting themselves out. Peggy yells at him that they aren't giving up on him, so "don't you dare give up". And then they get the grate off and pull him through. He clings to them: "You didn't leave." Then they all go to the room where they're chipping out cement. Jack takes a shift on this. When they get the shaft cleared, Peggy & Jack agree Daniel should go first because climbing the ladder is going to be hard for him. (The water is currently lapping around their knees.) Then Peggy & Jack fight over whether she should go next. She thinks he's condescending to her -- and in fairness, he sorta is -- so one of them suggests drawing straws. They use pencils from her handbag. She gets the short one, but she glimpses that the other one is snapped off to the same length and realizes he cheated. Then he explains, "You saved my life. This is all I can do. Let me do this." So she goes up ahead of him. Looking down, she sees the look on his face is ghastly & realizes that this is terribly difficult for him, but it's something he's gotta do. When they get to the top, she tells him, "You did it. You were the bottom guy on the ladder this time."

[This stayed very similar to the outline when I wrote it, although there’s one big thing that’s missing and that’s the entire sequence where everyone almost gets sucked into the undertow in the shaft. That apparently came up spontaneously when I was writing.]

They're all soaked, filthy, and hypothermic, so rather than driving back to NYC, they get a hotel in Albany, where they get two separate rooms (guys & girls). Peggy takes a long shower & she calls Angie to let her know she's okay. Then she goes over to the guys' room. She finds Sousa in, basically, a blanket nest in front of the radiator. He's startled; she tells him not to get up. He says they were going to order room service "but Thompson's still in the shower" and put it on SSR accounts. So they do. And then they pull all the blankets off the bed and make an enormous nest in front of the radiator and go to sleep.

[And this was also pretty much identical in the final version.]

Not sure if this is interesting to anyone else, but that’s what the notes looked like for that fic, anyway!

I LOVE the repetition of this verse with the changes. I think it's some of my favourite lyrics of the album because it's so simple but relatable. He uses a simple object to bring up the image of the break up (walking out the door) and then uses that word again in the moment (starin' at the door) and conjuring the image of absence (you're not here anymore). You're not here anymore and you will never be here again. All of this from a stupid pair of SHOES he's insane. (And if I say: 'And all that's left of us is a cupboard full of clothes').

But I'm a writer, musician, and Zelda enthusiast! I write for Linked Universe mainly (Illegible_Handwriting on ao3) and I figured I should make a Tumblr, so here we are! I like a bunch of other things too, though (marble hornets, stormlight archive, gravity falls, unravel 2, metroid, doctor who, the owl house, rottmnt, ben drowned/awakening, generation loss, episodes 4-9of star wars, HUMAN RIGHTS DAMMIT, just to name a few) so I'll pretty much post whatever I want to.

The Chosen and the Champion (Switch gang tribute): Completed. A ton of Wild and Sky content because I saw Skyward Sword on Switch and went FUCK yes. This got off the rails very quickly. Just read all of them at this point, cuz I don't know what I'll bring back next. Chapter 20 and onwards is Exploring Sky's Hyrule.

Smoke & Ashes: Incomplete and in progress!! continues where C&C left off, with a huge fucking focus on Sky's adventure, specifically the end. However, unlike most fics, people are NOT very happy or forgiving with Sky. If you know, you know. VERY ANGST HEAVY. PLEASE READ ALL THE TAGS AND WARNINGS.

Like Mounds of Molten Gold: Incomplete and in progress!! Just a bunch of extra content for the C&C universe! Some are companion pieces to a specific chapter or section, while some are just random shit. There might be cut content every now and then. my over 70,000 word novel that i've written with one of my best friends

my skateboard, which i spent hours designing the back of, i used posca paint pens to create a comic strip design with a custom character i created!

one of my first and fav kpop album redesigns...i was so excited and happy w how it turned out!!

have you ever saved someone's life?

sort of, in a way. one of my old friends (she now goes to a new school and we don't talk as much anymore) had pots, which is an illness that causes unprovoked fainting/seizures. she would faint, and be unconcious for up to 20mins, and sometimes would have seizures after fainting. other times, she would have times where she would faint multiple times, but only be unconcious for less than a minute, but would faint frequently (maybe 5-10 in an hour). because she was in our class, i did feel a lot of responsibility for looking after her. the teachers knew to call the nurse and the ambulance during her long faints/seizures, and i would go with my friend to show the ambulance where to go. we got so used to running to the school office that i swear our cardio skills built up. we have dealt with one of her faints outside of school too though, without any adult support, which was much scarier, but we managed ok. so i think a bit?

again, cannot choose. my wardrobe is my baby; she is a collection that is never ending and eclectic and so, so me. she's what i spend most of my money on (other than kpop concerts) and i love her sm.

NO WONDER THEY LITERALLY DIDNT WORK

I started actually workshopping an OC (compliments of this pic and the following to picrew obv). Fairly restrained person who goes down the Maggots Nest to R&D pipeline. She doesn’t have a solid name yet, but I do know her zanpakuto is a giant centipede who cries when she doesn’t visit enough.

Although she does suffer from R&D morality disease, she comes off fairly normal in quick, then get back to work small talk. She doesn’t have ambitions outside of the R&D anymore. The whole getting locked up for not doing anything but showing potential to do something kind of killed it.

Part of the coding crew for the semi-organic technology. So part computer coding, part surgical expertise. Largely attempting to translate the two into a cleaner mesh. Highly interested in how different reishi & spiritual pressure (of different species) can make this process easier, but halted by lots of red tape.

Has come to realize that with surveillance spanning farther and larger after the war, that she is now also playing IT to many shinigami who can barely work a soul phone. Absolutely soul crushing work. Especially considering the work she WANTS to be doing.

Really, really loves insects but switches her accessories to more traditionally cute things (like bears) when she goes outside of R&D. Not good at following lines of conversation she hasnt prepped for. Wretched at generating small talk while doing IT calls and will just lead the conversation back to task at hand.

Glazes the fact that she’s part of Gotei 13 out of her mind and lets R&D be the wall she can’t look over. This makes the IT work even more harrowing.

Copes largely by throwing herself into hobbies & the work she likes but also does do drugs! Not for fun or anything because she is too socially lame for that but she eventually finds that other people are super down to do drugs with her. This is the entry point where she starts develop actual relationships with people. Tfw you need experimental drugs to loosen up and have a laugh with people. My precious girl is so bad with people ❤️

She inspired me to workshop ANOTHER OC, a friend. And also a large reason she ended up in the maggots nest:

Worked in a tea house in the Noble Quarters and quickly became drawn to Tokinada for his blatant cruelty toward nobleman, who she desperately wished to be blatantly cruel to as well. Due to their own cruelty. You know the drill.

Tossed in the maggots nest for *TV static* and got out once Tokinada has climbed ranks enough to pull her out, and almost got herself killed after she threw a fit about having to join Gotei 13. Because Tokinada is a controlling POS. But OC wants a sliver of control herself, too much to partways. And what other choice does she have? Commit herself to being a shinigami? Go work somewhere in the rukongai? As if!

She makes every excuse to tag along with above OC on IT. She’s much better at small talk but is also just really annoying and needling. She always has her I Want To Know All About You mask on. It’s the only way she keeps from fucking losing it.

Her zanpakuto is a goblin shark, half stuck in a half sealed shrine underwater. She hates shinigami and was drawn to OC for that reason. Also controlling, demanding, and lords her support over OC if conditions aren’t fulfilled. No idea why her zanpakuto hates shinigami yet, but I do know that she puts her entire sharkussy into evaluation fights because the opponents are always fellow shinigami (duh). Also pretends she can taste what OC eats and demands a diet of fish and crustacean. I thought that was funny.

I also think it’s funny that I know so much about her zanpakuto but to be fair she’s a huge personality, very mysterious, and enshrouded in anger. *boops her smooth snout*

I like the idea of a zanpakuto seeking out a personality they feel they can take advantage of. The sword souls need more insane personalities that blur the line of sword and shinigami imo.

And finally, the last OC, who escaped being dragged into the maggots nest bc she is just not that dangerous nor smart by the standards of Central 46. Does know above two OCs very well.

Real simple girl. Loves having a roof over her head and a warm meal in her belly. Doesn’t care how she needs to accomplish that.

Great with people. Great with lying to people. Great with justifying violence against people. As long as she has a roof, a meal, and a cigarette (or any vice if she can’t have that), it’s all good.

Gets upset when people think she and first OC are related (bc of vaguely same hair and skin color. They don’t look alike apart from that). First OC died to get here and this one was born in the Rukongai. She takes a lot of pride in making it from then to now. She also holds a huge grudge if someone asks if they’re related. Monumental. Good luck winning shit in most gambling establishments within the Seireitei.

Runs a lot of gambling gigs for shinigami. Never for nobility any more. The money isn’t worth it. Promises a lot of things and only delivers sometimes. Has her hooks in Hisagi, for example, because he’s a sucker. She gets most of her human goods from filched pockets in the rukongai (s/o to the mind of Pirenja, im pretty sure for the black market post for this idea). She isn’t above pestering first OC to make something she’s promised at R&D. Rarely pays back the favor.

Runs a bootleg Urahara Shoten with Urahara’s blessing because he thinks it’s funny, he could use the extra storage, and Ururu really wanted to help running something in soul society. It’s called Ururu Shoten but everything else looks exactly the same as the human world counter part. This is how she knows a lot of big names.

OC and Ururu make an oddly good team and she unfortunately has a soft spot for the kid. To balance this out, she regularly tries to fuck over the business in ways that she can wriggle free from.

She’s a shinigami in name only. Doesn’t have a zanpakuto spirit to speak of. Barely in the ranks. Barely scrapes by her duties. In it for the room and board and connections.

Very funny how many people assume she has nothing going for her based on this. The amount of ppl taken aback when she shows up as the host of a card game is gargantuan.

She can not comprehend a day doing nothing, despite her love of simple pleasures. If she isn’t rubbing her little hands together and buzzing around a new shit scheme, she is listless.

If this has taught me anything, it’s that I’m horrible at committing to names. But uuuuuuuh, hope you like my gals.

Okay gonna be honest i have no idea what post youre talking about, but i am not going to turn down such a blatant chance to talk about bases so here we go!

So since 1. I dont know you or how much you know about bases at all (and you say you dont know much) and 2. I want this post to be as helpful as possible i am going to explain this as if you have never heard of a base before in your life, so if you’re more familiar than that just hang in there

So first off, what is a base? A base number is basically the amount of digits you have to represent a given number. For example base 10 would have 10 individual digits, base 12 has 12, base 2 has 2, etc you get the picture. The three main bases i can think of that most people would have at least some level of familiarity with are base 10, base 2 and base 60.

Base 10 is just your normal numbers almost everything is done in base 10 or if not is converted into base 10. Base 2 is binary, it has 2 digits 0 and 1. Base 60 is what we do time in, its kind of a bad example because we actually use base 10 to get the 60 digits you need but time and angles and all that stuff that caps at 60 or 360 is base 60 (pretty sure angles are technically base 60, could be base 360 but you get the idea).

Bases work by when you run out of digits in your base, the row to the left goes up one and you start over. For example in base 10 when you get to 9 thats the last digit so it ticks over to 1 and 0.(numbers in based start at 0 so the tenth digit in base 10 is actually 9 not 10, 10 is not a number in base 10, just as 2 is not one in base 2 and 6 is not one in base 6). The trend continues on as well, when you get to 99 it goes over to 100.

For general use tho, if you wanna know a base thats not base 10 you need to know how to convert it back into base 10, otherwise its only understandable to you or if you happen to come across someone who also knows that base. Warning This next part might get a bit complicated. To convert a non-10 base into base 10, you need to be a bit familiar with your powers, im gonna use 2 as an example because its small and easy.

Lets pick a random number in base 2, 1101001. So i have no idea what number that is those numbers mean nothing to you and nothing to me, lets make it mean something. To figure that out were gonna need our powers of 2,7 of them starting at 0. From right to left we can number the digits 0-6, and thats the power they are each get. The number im each of those rows (in this case 0 or 1) is going to be multiplies by 2 to the power of whatever power that row is, and then we add them all together. It should make a bit more sense in a minute after i do this example. So lets start from the left to the right.

1*2^6 , 2^6= 64, times 1 is 64.

1*2^5 , 2^5= 32, times 1 is 32

0*2^4 , 2^4= 16, times 0 is 0

1*2^3 , 2^3= 8, times 1 is 8

0*2^2 , 2^2= 4, times 0 is 0

0*2^1 , 2^1= 2, times 0 is 0

1*2^0 , 2^0= 1 (anything to the power of 0 is one), and then times 1 is just 1 still.

So now we take all of those numbers and add them together. 64+32+0+8+0+0+1= 105. So the number 1101001 in binary should be able to be rewritten in base 10 as, 105. And lookie if i chuck it in an online binary converter

So now that we know 1. What a base is and 2. The basic principals on how to convert based back into base 10, ill explain base 6, and then of course why i like it.

So base 6 is a base system with 6 digits, 0 1 2 3 4 and 5. When you get to where 6 would be, you write 10, because youve hit your limit of digits you dont have anymore you need to move one row to the left. There are other people who are more qualified and suited to tell you how to say what 10 in base 6 should be called than i am, but generally in my head i will just say the digits (example, instead of saying 14(fourteen) i would say 14(one four). Makes it easier not to get confused when you convert)(side fun fact 14 in base 6 is ten) and then if i say it out loud i will automatically convert to base 10.

Everything i said before with base 2 applies to converting base 6 into base 10, the biggest difference being because base 6 has more digits you wont get a small number represented with so many digits. Base 10 does use less digits to represent big numbers eventually but its a lot bigger than anything you would ever need to use it for. I personally have very rarely ever needed to go above 2 digits for what i use base 6 for.

One of the biggest reasons i like base 6, and what i use it for almost exclusively, is how it lets you count on your hands. So most people have five fingers on each hand yeah? And base 6 has five numbers (excluding zero). Therefor, using holding up no fingers as being 0, you can, using just your two hands, count all the way up to thirty-five. Just on your hands using your fingers. Thirty-five is a Lot more than the usual ten you can represent. Its really good for counting numbers that are just above ten you would normally have to just try and remember once you run out of fingers. You just count, every time you add one more after hitting 5 fingers, the “ones” hand goes back to zero and your “tens”(or i guess “sixes”) hand goes up one more, until either you get the number you need or run out of hands!

I hope this makes sense and is as informative as i want it to be! Im going to link some of the videos i watched that got me into bases and helped me learn if you would like to watch those.
