do you have thoughts on hersheys/american chocolate
to be frank i don't know what "american chocolate" reeeaaally means. like. do kitkats and mars and twix and stuff count? they're not chocolate per se, more like chocolate fingers. but if those are included, yea all that shablang is good but arguably more for the filling than for the chocolate itself (but since they're so common maybe they're france/europe-made and if so they definitely taste differently than real usamerican ones)
also i am not the best one to answer this kind of question cuz i have a very low sugar tolerance, i'm not a chocolate bar addict and i'm not a snacker in general at all. so yknow!! maybe biased answer!!
now to the taste test.
i have gone to three different superstores, a sweets-specialised store and a usamerican-specialised store and this is the only type of hershey's i could find so very limited choice here (arguably since it's not a plain chocolate i'd argue the test is null and void but let's carry on regardless)
Tumblr media
(+ reese's cup cuz it's very usamerican, it's not very common and i never had one before. although it belongs to the chocolate finger kind of sweets)
the reese's cup is genuinely a horrible, awful snack. i'll be completely honest and had "mini reese's cups" before this test (i'm writing this live btw) and i was very close to just spit it all out because of how disgusting it was to me. and it happened again with the big ones lmao, albeit they were more balanced. by the second cup it's a bit enjoyable but it's really not . good. milk chocolate + peanut butter is Not It (never had peanut butter before so maybe it's solely because of the pb). plus it's sooooo sugary. i'm not gonna sleep tonight after this. i feel like i drank a cup of monster energy drink but there's no caffeine so it's not even worth it
now the hershey's – i took a square of black chocolate for cooking before hand to remember the taste of my usual chocolate (i don't like black chocolate but still. For Reference i had to). soooo. it's good. i like milk chocolate so it's very nice and the crunchy of the biscuit is cool, i like crunchy things. the milk chocolate feels very similar to the white chocolate i'm used to, albeit more sugary maybe. hard to tell with the biscuit. taste wise it's good. however the squares are very little (height-wise) compared to my usual chocolate bars so it's very unsatisfying hunger-wise, a feeling which i don't have AT ALL with my usual chocolate bars (4 squares and i'm usually "ok that's enough chocolate") so i understand better how you can just eat that stuff up until your cupboard is empty
so anyways. that's my review for that particular type of hershey's lmao. would eat again. i'd rather buy a snickers instead though. if i ever encounter regular hershey's i'll do an update i guess. but the reese's cups can fuck right off

Just finished North Woods by Daniel Mason in an effort to diversify my reading a little bit (and on a rec from a friend who only read litfic) and like. It was fine. The prose was very nice, and some of the characters were intriguing. I just kept hoping that it would all come together more interestingly and satisfying in the end. And then it was...fine.
I'm discovering that as a rule I personally tend to be unimpressed with the kind of novel that's really just a short story collection or a few novellas masquerading as a novel. To me it seems they are always desperately reaching to be greater than the sum of their parts, and they always fail.
Not that books like this can't be good (I liked Cloud Cuckoo Land okay*) but I don't tend to find that the loose connections between narratives really add that much. Like sure, that's a way to explore themes across narratives in a way that you might not be able to do with a more insular story. But I guess I find myself more uncharitable than other people I know with the whole "oooh and the storylines were all connected!" like yeah I know. because the author made them all up and made them connected. Which like, yeah, that's how all fiction works, but like. "They're all connected" isn't enough. They're all connected and therefore What?
Not that books like this don't usually have a "therefore What" in mind, but I have yet to read one that I feel actually accomplishes this as well as it ought, since that's usually their whole Thing™
Something that North Woods did do particularly well with its multiple narratives, in my opinion, is the variety of voice and tone that really embodied various distinct characters and writing styles in a way that felt natural and true to the different formats while still remaining engaging. That's one of the things that was enough to keep me reading to the end, and it's pretty impressive in its own right.
But as I went on, I was only really reading to finish, and then the big finish was. well. spoiler alert but they're all ghosts together I guess. so.
Okay so we just kind of stomped on some of the creepy and subtle ambiguity that lent a lot of charm and interest to the various stories by just completely ripping aside the veil, as it were. That's not an inherently bad choice depending on where we're going with this, but I guess nowhere is where we're going now that we're here. Why demystify your mystery if you're only going to make it boring and not really reveal anything new?
And the whole time I was waiting for what the whole thing with the panther was going to lead up to. Yes, there are two times where a (the?) panther explicitly comes into play, but the other mentions of it are woven so subtly and exquisitely throughout that for a while I thought that was the main throughline we were following, just as much as the house/woods. It's even on the cover! And for what? That it was there throughout? for What????? the vibes??
In the unlikely event that someone who sees this post has actually read this book, maybe you're going to be like "daisy, that's because you are stupid and don't have reading comprehension and are missing the obvious" okay great well then tell me. I am genuinely asking.
But also I do have to say skimming the goodreads reviews there is a lot of "it has themes of connection because the stories are all connected. this is very profound and also impressive"
And also! I'm going to say it! Some of the storylines are kind of shallow and melodramatic! This could have been interesting if we actually delved into the character more instead of just kind of skimming through their life story, hoping that the combined weight of the other interesting-enough pieces will sink the surface-level stuff into some level of profundity. Very pretty nature writing, though.
Anyway I don't feel bad being uncharitable to this book because I'm pretty sure it's a pulitzer candidate or something and has plenty of good reviews. (And there are a lot of good things about it!) Mostly I'm using it as a poster child for its structure, because the whole loosely-connected-narratives-across-history/place thing I feel like keeps cropping up in the kind of books that my mom's book club reads and that people say are really good but don't really do it for me. (And I feel like this style of book is getting more popular? maybe that's just me?)
Anyway if you're still reading: do you tend to like these types of books? why or why not?
*Cloud Cuckoo Land in my opinion was weakest when it tried to sell us on the connecting threads as well, but that's an idea for another post

Hi, you said to send you an ask if anyone has more ideas for the neurodivergent aid post - Maybe weighted blankets sold by IKEA? IKEA is available in a lot of places, they have different weight options, the product is called ODONVIDE.
ohh!! this is a great idea, thank you!! hope you don't mind I expanded on this with more weighted items.
here's a link to the 13.2lb twin size, they also come in 17.6lbs and 22.1lbs, just going off the Google ads.
here's an alternative link to a cheaper option from target, these can also be in the store but im sure the price fluctuates. my app currently says this one is $30 but it's set to my store, it can be different based off location, availability, and eventually when the deal ends or begins again.
there are many Amazon listings for different weighted blankets, as well as options on Etsy.
Tumblr media
( image description: a general weighted blanket guide chart comparing the users body weight to the blanket weight, for safe use for the individual, or couple. general rule is your blanket being 10% of your body weight. /end description )
if blankets are not the product for you, but you still want something weighted;
Amazon has weighted hoodies, I know I'd personally enjoy this a Lot more.
Etsy, Amazon, and maybe even a local grocery store near you has weighted and/or microwavable plushies. please check the product information before you put your plushie in the microwave.
I don't have a weighted heating pad myself, but when my cat lays on me I know in my heart it would've helped me so much with my PMDD when i was still menstruating.
i can't find a weighted version of my favorite fidget toy(the tangle, if anyone knows that one exists lmk!) but I recall Markiplier reviewing fidget toys and his #1 favorite was the ONO roller, and he said it was rather weighty. I don't actually watch Markiplier since gaming YouTube isn't my thing but I trust his opinion.
ok I'm running out of ideas here. hand weight to help your fine motor skills in your hand, if you have shakey hands. there are a lot of disabled people out here who I believe would benefit from something like this, especially if you're someone who does crafts with their hands such as crochet.
since I've already gotten one angry anon, I am not sponsored or making any sort of money off any of this.

Oh, this one is ... *chef's kiss.* It's WONDERFUL. The idea of photography capturing a moment so well... of losing yourself in a photo like that... and then when Olivia steps in it's just perfect timing. I have to wonder how long she was there, watching, picking her moment. I can't do this story justice in words, just ... go read it. Seriously. It's *good.* (Ok, ok, maybe I'm slightly biased by having some lovely photos from a play session with a partner that I treasure, but still.) 10/10 spirals

Yeah, I'm just not grooving with stories that straight up ignore someone trying to say no tonight. This is fine if you like a hypnotist pushing past attempts to say no, but I just can't with it right now. *shrug*

Whelp, now we see what a malfunctioning Girl(tm) can do. It's a good thing that the Girls(tm) have a solid QC team that handles in-the-field problems. I do hope Adele enjoys having her own Girl(tm), since it sure seems like she's destined to have one now. It's a good view into the world of the Girls(tm), and I really enjoyed it! 9/10 spirals

I don't like drugs as a method of control, personally, so this one is a pretty strong miss for me - between the drugs and the very obvious non-con, it just isn't my taste. But if you like drugs as a method of control, you might like this one pretty well. The change in how she thinks because of the drug and the brainwashing is well done, as far as I care, too. 5/10 spirals

Oh, this one is just FUN, and silly, and wonderful. Also, the title reminds me of a quip from a Thunderbolts comic: "Rule the world? Who wants to do that much WORK?!" (or something to that effect, anyway.) Seeing the clash of personalities and styles on display here, how they never think to *coordinate,* is just... it FEELS like a comic book in the best of ways. Which I suppose is the goal, given the setting. And seeing inside Adventure Girl's head here? It's lovely. 9/10 spirals

Hey, now, Aaron, that's hardly proper care of an antique magnifying glass! That aside, this is a clever story; I wish we knew *how* he came to have this power over her; is it a spell? A powerful hypnotic trigger? something else? Clearly it's attached to the word "Naturally," that much is obvious, but what's the mechanism!? Inquiring minds want to know! This is a well done story, if it leaves me asking questions, and the control flows smoothly. 8/10 spirals.

That's either extremely well targeted, or Carol gets lucky every time she tries that trick. Because it'd only take one sex-repulsed ace gal to get Carol in trouble for sexual harassment. That said, the control in this one is so smooth I got halfway through before realizing there *was* any - and that takes doing when I'm reading a story I know has mind control in it! I'm not sure I entirely *like* this story, but it's got good heat. I just ... don't enjoy how Carol steamrolls Sophie the way she does. 7/10 spirals

Ooooh, this is fun, the way the pressure to remember something she believes she couldn't have remembered leads to the cognitive dissonance that pushes her into trance.... very cleverly done! Babbling out mantras, mindlessly reinforcing her programming... all top notch. I don't have a ton to say about this one other than I enjoyed it, it was Very Good. 9/10 spirals

... this one is NOT FAIR for many, MANY reasons. Like the (extended) sex scene is fine, lots of hypnosis mixed in making it fine for me, but me being me that isn't the highlight of this story. No, no, the highlight is just how we're introduced to Dawn, to her sheer presence and charisma and control. She's a force of nature to Amy, that's so clear, and ... well. Jukebox, that introduction made me think *immediately* of a redheaded lass I love so very much, so thank you for that. Even if that strong association made me do a double-take at the use of "Mistress Dawn" - my brain kept editing it to "Miss Dawn" for *reasons*. And the moment going to the parking ramp, with the "Follow."? ;lkhadsghkl;adsgfhkl;adsghkl;agdshkl;gadshkladsgfhkl;adsghkl;adsghkl; That's A MOMENT. But this story is so good, and it feels like it could be real, in all the little ways.I hope that this is a start of them either having a solid long-distance relationship, or one of them moving to live with the other, because gosh they make such a sweet couple. And clearly they have all the chemistry in the world 10/10 spirals

I wish we knew what Emily was saying at any point, here. I get why we don't; it is, after all, a story from a third-person limited narrative PoV, so we only get to know what Brandy knows, but like... not seeing how the control is flexed does take some of the heat away for me. But it's still a really good view inside Brandy's head as she rationalizes her behaviour to Emily's prompting. And the end result feels nicely inevitable for Brandy. 7/10 spirals

It is!!! And that's fair! I've never heard of her bit to be fair I kind of stick to my silly little comics bubble
That's fair. I get that. I personally have a LOT of special interests (orcas, shipwrecks, and medicine) and I've NEVER thought about working in marine biology because I've always wanted to work in medicine. So now I'm going into nursing. And I am very worried it will not be fulfilling. It sucks that you're having a hard time that probably seemed so good when you started.
I just think it's very funny that's a pretty good review
That's fair I genuinely just thought they did that for the vibes™ like it never crossed my mind that that could be anything else

Im personally a pretty big fan of the arrow family and the green arrow comics but at the same time men so.  I WOULD just like to say that I DO enjoy the current GA run. Like quite a bit. But then I realized there's one thing I haven't disclosed: yeah I don't read things for the plot. I read the entirety of the Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath because I knew a doctor showed up. Like that's what I mean. So yeah the plot might be the problem. I got distracted by the one (1) character I liked and just ignored what was really going on to love her instead.
I bought one shirt from the thrift store and I love it. I had to wash it twice and now it's fine but even just going into a thrift store I know I have to keep my hands go myself since I won't be able to wash them after leaving. And that's not weird at all!! I found someone who also had an issue with bread (I have essentially food related Contamination OCD, largely, and Bread is by far the worst obsession, to the point where it's what got me my diagnosis) and I was overjoyed
Understandable tbh. A couple of the books in my house are severely ripped up from an old dog (namely my parents original copy of Harry Potter and the chamber of secrets) and one of my books is visibly just like crinkled and stuff from my dog running up sopping wet at the beach. (I have to hide it from myself because I no longer have my dog and the damage is so visible I'm instantly reminded and will cry 👍 so like, not taking a cover off, bit enough) And I agree WHOLLY ajout the love interest thing. That's fair!! If you read If I hope you do like it. And is the raven cycle like the raven boys? Because if the answer is yes then one of *my* friends absolutely loves those books so I bought the first one to read but I haven't because I,,, bought it used.
I did but it wasn't substantial. I barely remember what happened in it.
She doesn't, unfortunately. Shes just in the first couple years. And I don't remember when she comes back in Injustice 2 either but I do think she has like a fairly good part in it? As In like? She's not background background I think she has a couple storylines (it's been a long time, and as I said I don't read for plot, it's entirely possible she's in like two scenes and I just blocked out everything else so they seem substantial, but I really don't think so)
I knew the Dinah presentation was good just BC like I said that's how I found her lmao. But I agree!! And it is NOT a good look but somehow no one really cares?
No I felt the same way. Before reading them Wonderwoman was my favorite superhero. I have a print from Comicon of her and it's one of my absolute favourites. But yeah then I read Injustice where she follows superman around like a puppy because she thinks now that Lois is gone he'll love her instead. Which I hated, and she got demoted a little I do still love her but reading Injustice for me was kind of like "oh gross no more Wonderwoman for me I guess... Oh hi black canary." So there was a swap
Yeah, if you've finished year two you know that doctor fate gives Dinah to a different earth's Ollie and they do come back together in Injustice 2. However I LOVE seeing Dinah sad. It's my favorite part. My phone keyboard background is her standing in front of all the gravestones after the funeral. I just love the angst of it all.
Yeah! He absolutely does! Isn't that even like? Okay it's bene a hot minute but doesn't Dinah get mad about that after the memory about them all in the bar together? (Where she tells Hal that he can give Ollie's beard a lil tug if he wants too)
I love them so much!! They're perfect. And Dinah's always been like on the middle between like serious and joking (I think that's why I always liked her, she's fun but she can also be a backbone) (she's also pretty) and I feel like that's perfect for Harley. Not all the time, she could never replace like Ivy (friendship wise not gay wise but technically both) but they work great in things like Injustice. Especially with the added vibes of "Dinah has been in charge of multiple superhero teams and is used to parenting/ moming adult vigilantes"
Yeah two is definitely my favorite for Dinah reasons so I agree. And yeah I can't really distinguish between the following years but by that point you're too far gone in the plot it doesn't even matter you just keep going.
As for *me* I didn't have a lot of bombshells thoughts. Yo be fair I don't have a lot of thoughts ever.
I didn't get past issue 9 I just didn't want to read anymore, but I was enjoying it!! I think the art is very pretty!! I think the women are very pretty!!
I Do love Kate and Maggie. Together and separately. That shouldn't really be surprising (to me) seeing as I used to write Batwoman fan fic in which she was always with Maggie. But somehow, it still is, and they both make me very happy.
So far the Batwoman issues are the only ones I really like, but I think that's just because nothing's really started so I'm just going on vibes and the vibes are I would die for Kate Kane in any century.
Other than that I didn't really have a lot of thoughts. I didn't realize duela Dent showed up. I wanted to draw some of the characters but I couldn't find good references.
okay first of all hi i’m so sorry my life has been so chaotic the past couple days. (parents moving. car issues. work 😭)
you are so valid for sticking to ur little bubble!! i completely get that!!
i wish you the very best in nursing! i have a longtime friend who’s also going down the nursing path, and from what i’ve learned from her it definitely doesn’t seem like the easiest path and i gotta say mad respect to both you and her and everyone going down that path. as for my job there is a very very recent big change in the works. nothings 100% official yet but the plan is to start enacting the change in january so i’m just trying to push thru the remainder of the year(/the holiday craze) and trying to be very optimistic that this change will make the job both more enjoyable and also easier & in theory less stressful. i’m also holding onto the fact that if it doesn’t work out, and i do decide to move back in with my parents and refigure my life, it should hopefully be easier to leave once this change has been enacted? like my job is chronically tight on staff/short staffed and in theory with this change we may end up being a tad on the opposite end. i really like my coworkers a whole lot which is part of why i’ve stuck it out so hard and it hopefully won’t feel as much like i’m fucking them over if i do have to leave. but hopefully the change helps me. (helps us all. all my coworkers are so exhausted & burnt out :/) so yeah. idk i’m anxious bc i don’t like change and god have i been dealing with so fucking much this year alone but like. it feels like a good thing. and i am curious to see how things play out with this change. it’s all. a lot yeah lol. but my parents are moving like an hour closer to me than they were in their old house so that also feels comforting that it’s a slightly shorter drive to go visit them n shit. anyways uh i’d say sorry for rambling about all my. personal life shit but i think that’s become just how we roll 💕
you are SO valid for not reading comics for the plot. plots in comics can be so confusing, and i can definitely respect reading a comic just for characters and not caring about the plot itself. i think for now i will stay out of the new GA run and work on getting thru injustice and then i think i might give some green lantern comics a try bc i have some friends who are Big on the GL comics, also the blackest night storyline has doctor light so two birds one stone kinda situation. (i also wanna read some more donna troy stuff bc i fell in love with her from the titans show ((yes. not the greatest show by any means. but alas it burrowed into my heart)) and have tried previously as well to read some of her comics but then i got distracted)
yeah i feel that with thrift stores for sure. i’ve made some slow progress but i always have hand sanitizer either on me or in my car.
lots of hugs about your dog, i lost one of my two a few months back and sympathize entirely 💕💕💕
i’ve begun the raven boys and so far am definitely enjoying it! the boys (ronan and gansey specifically) i’m still…warming up to but i am very compelled by the overall story and loved blue right away. (you are SO valid about not having read it bc you bought it used. you may have already looked into this but have you tried seeing if you can get library card online? when i moved i was able to get a new card completely virtually without ever needing to go into the library)
you are valid for not having a lot of thoughts about bombshells, i’m just glad you’re enjoying it so far! kate definitely has a nice significant role in the series for sure. im pretty sure this was the first series i actually read with her in it and definitely fell in love with her through it.
i finished year 4 of injustice!! did so like right before everything got extra chaotic BUT i decided to write down my thoughts in the notes app—i didn’t have many thoughts. i’m kinda just powering through to get to injustice 2 to see dinah again. i originally was trying to do notes for each issue but then i didn’t have enough thoughts so i’m just gonna group my thoughts together to make them neater
by far the funniest thing ever and my favorite thing out of injustice year four was definitely this panel of alfred feeding bruce mac and cheese with ??? wine in a regular glass OR the far superior option: grape juice.
Tumblr media
i also loved seeing harlivy. i don’t think the intention was for romantic but ivy called harley sweetie so like. i’ll take what i can get
Tumblr media
renee died. that was sad. but i also made a note of being excited over a mysterious figure in one of lex luthor’s test tubes and thinking it was conner but now that i really think about it isn’t conner in like. the phantom zone. so probably not him…unless?
the amazons declaring war on superman was so funny to me. batman working with the greek gods. wonder woman calling a trial by combat to try to prevent the war. her then being called on to fight against superman as the champion for the greek gods. hilarious. also. wonder woman beating up superman? i Always love to see it.
also there was this really cool panel which i loved
Tumblr media
i then fell into the zone of just powering thru the issues and only made an additional note about the harley, billy & hippolyta team up in tartarus, which was not a team up i was expecting. but god did i love it.
and then yeah. i finished year four. haven’t started year five yet because. again. life has been busy but i’m excited bc that’s the last year before injustice 2 and i’m really looking forward to injustice 2.

'Honestly, I had no interest in seeing this movie originally, simply by virtue of the billboard featuring an explosion. This implied that the film would be an action movie, about the nuclear bomb, as told by the American side. It seemed like poor taste. I imagined Nolan being his usual anti-special effects self and opting for a real nuclear bomb to be built and dropped on Japan again. Then he could shoot the impact and fallout in his favorite high-quality film stock and make it look cool. I really wasn't interested, but I went to the matinée anyway. Imagine my surprise when it went an entirely different route, but in equally bad taste.
Oppenheimer begins in cliché. There's a large traumatic event- an explosion of some sort, followed by a sweaty character waking up, or coming back from PTSD-enforced mediation. This is our first introduction to Cillian Murphy's blank face that we'll see using the same expression throughout the rest of the film. Have a good memory for faces? No? Fine, you don't need to. A nice chunk of this film cuts between poorly written quip and Cillian looking blank to quip and Cillian looking blankly at something else with his mouth slightly agape. Reader, I hope we've brushed up on Soviet montage theory recently, as you should know when you're being manipulated. Naturally, if a film's opening shot is cliché, there's absolutely no chance that it'll take a wild turn towards originality in later minutes. The entirety of the film is a series of empty aphorisms, contrived metaphors and visual analogies that first-graders, let alone theoretical physicists, would find condescending. Marbles in a fishbowl? I felt patronized. Proving genius by scrawling wildly on a chalkboard? Shame on you.
Oppenheimer's political wavering might have stabilized had he read his contemporary, Orwell, on matters like the Spanish Civil War. Nolan's use of dying metaphors and the like might similarly have improved had he read Orwell as well. Oppenheimer is rife with "metaphors which have lost all evocative power and are merely used because they save people the trouble of inventing phrases for themselves." One phrase that Orwell mentions, "toe the line," is even used verbatim in the film. I doubt that Nolan wrote this line with knowledge of the phrase's meaning, which is, as Orwell would phrase it, a "sure sign that the writer is not interested in what he is saying".
We are told repeatedly that Oppenheimer is, at least early in his career, a communist. Short of him telling us that he has some interest in the professors unionizing, there's no substantive understanding of what his politics were, or why. Considering that his history of leftist involvement is what gets him a good ole fashioned kangaroo McCarthy court, and is the central dramatic device for the whole film, Nolan might have done well to explain the philosophy behind Oppenheimer's beliefs, beyond family proximity and a desire to get laid. Instead, exposition is drowned out by music. It's too loud. Subtitled audiences are at an advantage against those of us who were subjected to the whims of the sound mixer. Every time a truly dramatic or thoughtful scene came on, the score would bump up and up, drowning out something politically nuanced or robustly scientific. The actors might have done well to yell over the music, at least it would have forced them to emote more. The bits of Science™ that we do get to hear are pop science, a stoner's understanding of the golden ratio, but for particle physics.
Nothing in the film is aided by the editing, either, which seems to have taken its pacing from Rick and Morty's Interdimensional Cable Quick Mystery segment, as hastily realized by the editor from Battlefield Earth.
As a character study, it fails. The writing for every character is the same. One of them drinks more, one of them throws flowers in the trash, one of them has an accent that makes some question his loyalty to the project. Everyone says Oppenheimer is an asshole. We only know this because we're told that he is. Yes, he's curt, but so is his lover who throws his flowers away. This botanical quirk could have easily been applied to our protagonist, his wife, his colleagues, even his brother. Nothing anyone does is particular to their character as individuals. However, only a true asshole would look at New Mexico and think, "we should bomb this."
I ran into a friend who had just come back from seeing the movie before I had watched it. I asked him if "the line" was said in the film. You know, "I am become death." Yes, he told me, but he wouldn't tell me how. This is by far the best scene in the movie and played completely seriously, à la Leslie Nielsen in Airplane. For this scene alone, I recommend watching this piece of comedy. Following my friend's lead, I also won't divulge the particulars of this segment. Once he says, "destroyer of worlds," you can leave the theater.
An especially strange component of the film is its entire plot, which focuses on Oppenheimer's McCarthy era hearings and the events leading up to it. There are all of two minutes total dealing with the actual effects of the atom bomb, which, let's face it, is why the audience is sitting in the theater in the first place. The box office can thank the billboard. Instead, we're treated to three hours of a man who willingly worked the US military apparatus getting told that he's going to lose his security clearance. Who cares? This might make an interesting chapter in his biography, but it's definitely not important enough to warrant an entire biopic. Clearance or no clearance, this man can spend the rest of his life in a mansion situated next to a conveniently sage Einstein. And what's this clearance for, anyway? Should we be cheering on another chapter of bigger, better bomb development? Are the Japanese a moot footnote in the larger picture of American military imperialism? That Oppenheimer focuses on his "martyrdom" and the McCarthy era's targeting of Real® Patriotic ™ Americans© despite their contributions to the military industrial complex is at best a mistake and at worst, deeply conservative filmmaking.'

Sound forge pro 10 reviews

SOUND FORGE PRO 10 REVIEWS PRO
SOUND FORGE PRO 10 REVIEWS SOFTWARE
I also noticed mono tracks are only played through one speaker which is not terribly ideal or expected.
SOUND FORGE PRO 10 REVIEWS PRO
Oddly, the same task works just fine in OS X running Sound Forge Pro 10 through Windows 7 from Parallels Desktop. I got a consistent crash on trying to play other files saved in the same manner even on reloading the entire app and file(s). wav, saved it as 44/16 and then Sound Forge would not play it, followed by multiple crashes. One issue I had was I brought in a 96/24. I have also read about the app crashing frequently, which I also experienced.
SOUND FORGE PRO 10 REVIEWS SOFTWARE
I have heard this app compared it to an Alpha version of software as opposed to release. The list of features missing from Pro MAC vs Pro 10 is quite extensive: no batch editing, no key command assigning, no crop ability, no surround output, no auto-regioning, no video support, and even a lack of editable toolbars. Be warned: Pro MAC requires OS X Lion or Mountain Lion, which may be a deal-breaker for some Snow Leopard holdouts. Also the Media Browser which by default is on the left side of the screen is cleaner and nicer than SF 10’s Explorer. While playing around with it I have access to all of my Audio Unit and VST 2’s, and there are little differences/improvements I have seen so far over SF 10 such as Fade-ins/Outs having their fade types right in the submenu is super cool (although having to go into a menu at all is tedious). It looks like an OS X application and seems to behave like one as well. (Windows version = $374.95 and OS X version = $269.95).Īll that said, this new MAC version does look pretty. Instead, Sound Forge Pro MAC has been touted by Sony Creative as “Built on a clean slate for OS X, Sound Forge™ Pro Mac provides a contemporary application environment that’s perfect for recording, editing, processing, and rendering broadcast-quality audio master files.” Sound Forge Pro MAC seems to be an entirely different application than Sound Forge Pro 10, which could explain the different version numbering conventions as well as different price-points. Many Sound Forge fans (including myself) were hoping this new Mac port would be Sound Forge Pro 10 with OS X style buttons. While there have been functional audio editors on OS X for a long time: Wave Editor (now Triumph), the ill-fated BIAS Peak, Adobe Audition and even Audacity but these don’t seem to have the name recognition and user-numbers that Sound Forge has held among all audio professionals. A long time standard of most Windows-using audio professionals, Sound Forge Pro has finally come to Apple OS X.

Poor, Unfortunate Souls
Hades being a Grumpy Dad™.
Fic: "Poor, Unfortunate Souls" [FFN] [AO3]
Pairings/Characters: Hades & Nico di Angelo, mentions of Hades/Persephone
Rating: K
Words: ~510
Additional info: family, 3rd person POV
Summary: Because, according to Hades, mortals just don't understand how to fall in love.
Mortals were dreadfully boring creatures. Hades was certain of it. They were born fanciful and whiny, they lived fanciful and whiny, and they died fanciful and whiny. Mortals were dreamers, a fact that annoyed the lord of the Underworld to no end, because those silly little mortals often didn't try hard enough when it came to their dreams. Even when it came to love, mortals had no clue what to do.
Hades knew of that old saying, of a person "falling in love at first sight." How saccharine and superficial! Most of the time, when a mortal fell in love "at first sight," the next thing Hades would welcome in Hell was that relationship. Mortal relationships just didn't last. Now, his relationship—that was strong.
Okay, so it was a minor detail that most of the time Persephone hated him, but hey! He loved her very much; it was real love. He had loved others, but he had always come back to Persephone. Why? Simple—because one didn't fall in love at first sight.
                There was scent involved.
The scent, of course, was more than just the pheromones of which mortals spoke. The scent was like magic, meant to catch one's attention. Only after your attention was caught did you look.
Hades knew this to be true. Persephone? Persephone smelled like flowers and sweat and freshly-churned soil. She smelled like minerals and the gems in the Underworld—the flowers of the Underworld. It was how Hades knew he had to have her. She was everything he liked rolled into one. So obviously he captured her and married her.
Hades sometimes wondered if he could better Persephone's opinion of him if he told her all of this. Alas, that probably never would happen. It took all of his energy just to get through a quarrel with her on a daily basis. He couldn't fathom the chaos that would ensue if he revealed just exactly how deeply he cared for her… No, that she would never forgive, and she would try to stay with her mother after that, breaking the eons-old agreement that had ended up creating the Earth's seasons, which in turn would throw Hades into conflict…
But while he couldn't vent to Persephone, his son had been around an awful lot, learning the ropes of his old man's kingdoms, so Hades forced him to lend the god his ear.
"Please," Nico groaned. "I really don't want or need to hear any more."
Hades huffed. "I'm not trying to upset you, because I did love Maria, but—"
"It's not even that. Hearing you talk about mushy stuff—it's gross." Nico made a gagging noise.
"Har har. Gag all you want, but you'll fall in love someday, Nico, and I just hope you'll fall the right way. The chances of it happening have increased greatly, too, now that you frequent the Roman camp." Nico shrugged him off, but Hades knew better, that the advice had come at the right time, because Nico was often at Camp Jupiter these days…
XD Hades, IMO, has the potential for comedic gold. I love how this seemed just to be Hades' musings…and it turns out he was actually telling all of this to his son. ;D Ah, House of Hades…I love you guys (and bk4 can't come soon enough! :( ). Anywho, I guess it's up to you, readers, to decide who's got Nico hooked at Camp Jupiter, but I had Gwen in mind—an obvious hint if you've read any of my Gwico fics. Anyway! Enough babbling. :]
Thanks for reading, and feel free to leave an anon/unsigned review via the FFN link or comment via the AO3 link at the top of the post, especially if you enjoyed this!

2019 note: *lol* Hades just doing Dad Things makes me smile. XD His musings were fine and didn't require editing, nor did I feel the need to add anything—I still love the detail about Persephone's scents even 7 yrs later. -w-
