Im thinking a lot about those intimacy moments before the whole earring proposal thing like they don't have the words to describe why they like being so close and they don't have the time to think about it because of the fucking BLIGHT so it's like so pure and instinctive.
Im about to cry over an elf version of puss in boots i-

🐴🪄🛸 for the sso asks? :)
Horse is answered here!
🪄 [MAGIC WAND] -> Does your Original Character know about the magic powers existing across Jorvik? Do they know of the Sisterhood and the Keepers, of the Herds in Wild Woods, or Pandoria? If not, how do they explain some of the things happening around them (e.g. whatever Devil's Gap got going after the latest Main Quest)?
Alou's philosophy is "if I do not aknowledge it it does not exist. And even if it does it will not pay attention to me as long as I don't draw its attention and mind my own business." They do not know anything about magic, they have some knowledge on the uses of crystals but only because they use them in jewelry and it's a good thing to know when selling.
All the others know about the Sisterhood and the Keepers, and are part of the Keepers/druids! Zoe knows about the Herds from Kieron, but has promised him not to share. Corinne knows about the Herds on Wild Warden knowledge, again sworn to silence, it's a "trade secret" of sorts. They are all aware of Pandoria, and Elaina is training to specialize in exploring it.
Corinne's father introduced them into his coven at an early age, and they have been a witch for almost all her life. Crucially, the Keepers do not know about this, as she doubts they'd react well to it. Her coven does know about her druid status though, and they're cool with it.
Feya is sort-of-part of a hidden magical group. (homebrew lore). I will give no further info on that right now, I keep telling myself to make a post about it. Maybe I will sometime within uhhh 2 days and like 20 years. I mean... it's all there in faer name, really ;)
🛸 [U.F.O] -> What is your Original Character's opinion on Pandoria and the 'travel' through time and space taking place across some places in Jorvik? What about other legends and myths of Jorvik that they got to meet in person (e.g. Jon Jarl)?
Elaina loves Pandoria! She is very interested in it, which is why she accepted the explorer/researcher apprenticeship. The others all think she is insane for doing it but support her nonetheless.
They're really not that bothered by the time and space stuff, tbh. They mostly just use it to their advantage - Everlee most of all.
Since none of them are part of the main storyline, they haven't really interacted with any legends and myths as far as I can recall.
Alou lives in oblivious bliss.

tell a lil bit more about your Hawke and your Inquisitor 👀👀
HELL YEAH LET'S GOOOO
I kind of uhhhhhhhh went WILD and wrote POSSIBLY TOO MUCH so!
Athena Hawke entered Kirkwall as a cheeky but kind like 20 year old and left Kirkwall as a shell of a person HAHA. She's a warrior, so she had Bethany by her side and they were INCREDIBLY close, so taking her to the Deep Roads and making her a warden (a choice she made in a panic without thinking of what Bethany wanted) genuinely haunted/still haunts her.
She has the...worst case of RBF and people avoid her on the street when in reality mentally she's like "What should I get for dinner. Chicken? No. I had that for lunch." and Varric absolutely ribs on her for it and calls her some variation of grouch/grouchy which she HATES.
She romanced Fenris and it was very much a love at first sight of seeing a mans heart torn out of his chest while Bethany was in the background like "Athena. No. NO." She tried really hard to be Cool About It but it just lead to her like, glaring at Fenris a lot and him being like "...?" because, again, horrible case of RBF. When he left in Act 2 she was like "of course, take all the time you need." and then burst into The Hanged Man 20 minutes later like "VARRRICCCCCCCCCCC" in like, TEARS LMAOOOO. Eventually she and Fenris settle down and she finds a lot of comfort in how blunt he is, and I like to think he finds comfort in the fact that she tries to stay kind despite her life circumstances.
She loves Varric, adores Merrill, and would (and literally nearly did) die for Isabela. She and Anders are very co-workers esque and she thinks Sebastian's a drag HAHA
Athena's big thing is that she thinks Literally Everything is her fault and she could have, should have, done better. It informs a lot of her choices and obviously does not lead to the healthiest of mindsets. She also resents the fuck out of being The Champion because she resents that all of a sudden she is in charge of things and how did this HAPPEN (a common thread in my protags in different ways LMAOOO)
I think post Kirkwall she and Fenris shack up for a minute before they get back out there. I like to think all my protags take vacations after their games LMAOO THEY DESERVE IT. She also cuts her hair because it makes her think of her mom and is still keeping it short by the time Inquisition happens.
By the time Inquisition happens, because I love spice and sadness, she and Fenris are not necessarily broken up but they are a bit strained because of Hawke's tendency to throw herself into things even when they could be deadly, which Fenris would Prefer She Stop Doing.
Also, lil fun fact - Athena has a lot of patience and tries to stick to "no unnecessary murdering" until she snaps and goes wild. She IS a reaver, so. Circe........I do not have favorites, but, hypothetically, if I did, Circe Lavellan may possibly be my favorite.
She has the strongest personality out of her, Hera and Athena which was REAL FUN. She DOES NOT WANT TO BE INQUISITOR which is a very fun journey because by the time Samson tells her something isn't her business, I got really into playing as her and OUT LOUD, IN DISCORD, AS HER, I said "I am the INQUISITOR. EVERYTHING IS MY BUSINESS." When anyone would ask her if she thought she was the herald/believed in Andraste she HARDCORE AVOIDED THE QUESTION, just like she hardcore avoided questions about her intentions for the inquisiton after corypheus. (she did not know and she very much was like "we should be focusing on SAVING THE WORLD FIRST, HOW IS THAT NOT YOUR FIRST PRIORITY)
Circe was..............very popular. The way Cullen was animated made it seem like he had a GIANT CRUSH ON HER which my entire discord had a field day with, because for Circe humans are Always On Strike Two. (at some point there was a scene happening and Circe left the room and Cullen watched and my friend went "I THINK HE JUST CHECKED OUT HER ASS I AM NOT KIDDING") This became funnier when Cullen's plan was what ultimately saved Clan Lavellan because she very much was like "I owe this human man a life debt. I hate it here." Solas took her on that whole fade date and she was like "ahaha yes, FRIEND, FRIEND WHOSE FRIENDSHIP I VALUE," and she and Blackwall had a whole Flirty Thing going on until Bull showed up, which really tells you about what Circe's tastes are LMAOOO.
Circe and Bull are..............they...........mean so much to me..........They very much have a murder pact ("If I go mad"/"If I become an abomination") that they openly joke about to horrify people but ultimately would not if possible/would be in great pain if they had to go through with it! Which is fun! Circe would find comfort in Bull being like, a Thoughts Free Zone for a bit and then she'd be like Unfortunately I Now Have Feelings For This Man. She'd be very embarrassed about it all until she finally fessed up and then they'd be DISGUSTING TOGETHER LMAOOOOO. Just UNBEARABLY CORNY. Also, Circe would absolutely let Bull throw her in battle, and since she's a Knight Enchanter it's all very fun and chaotic.
Side note: Cole is absolutely a little brother to her, she dotes on him like crazy and adores being with him. She gets very defensive of him and spends a good chunk of her free time with him, especially after he becomes human and she can track him down more easily
Circe also would become more and more anxious of losing her personhood, of everything she's done be for nothing, of being remembered as a concept and not a living breathing thing - i'm talking like full on panic attacks, unable to sleep, having to be calmed down about it. - ESPECIALLY after Ameridan. She tries to (somewhat) prioritize joy after that, finally visits Clan Lavellan after avoiding them for literal years (I played Descent and Hakkon after the main game to give the game a better sense of time passing before Tresspasser), ect.
By Tresspasser she is Fed Up, not sleeping, not eating, and also her arm is doing That Whole Thing concerning the fuck out of Bull LMAOOO. The ongoing joke was that Bull had DEFINITELY suggested cutting her arm off at multiple points in time, and when it actually happened it felt very monkey's paw HAHA. She definitely freaks out on Solas and is like oh I gotta KILL THIS GUY!! Also, because it feels relevant, she DID NOT LIKE MORRIGAN and drank from the well.
Also! Playlists. Everyone has a playlist! I use these while drawing to get me in the mindset so they're not in chronological order but here's Hawkes, Circes, and Heras which is the most work in progress since I just finished Origins and need to.....maybe take out the MULTIPLE songs about dying HAHAHA
EDIT: also because I played the games out of order and used the default world states for 2 and inquisition due to some Choices I made during Origins Circe is uhhhhhhh going to have either Fenris try to kill her or Hera and THAT'S GONNA BE FUN FOR HER

Lava’s Art Masterpost
Hey, all!  Welcome to my art masterpost!  I have no idea if this is a thing that is done typically for art, but oh well, I like organizing things, so here we are!  What you’ll find here is mostly Dragon Age, with a few non-DA pieces in there, and there’s a range of styles I like to use, depending on my mood.  But a lot of what you’ll see will most likely combine lineart with some other form of coloring/shading.
Feel free to browse at your leisure, and I hope anyone who stumbles upon this enjoys what they find! :D And thank you to anyone who sees this and likes, or reblogs, or even just stops by to peruse a bit!
All that said, away we go!
Digital Portraits:
1. Portrait of Nameless Woman, 2020 - This one is just an experiment with a watercolor brush that I did.  It’s not anatomically perfect, but I enjoyed playing around with shading.
2. Sketch of Aja Amell, 2020 - This one is basically sketch practice with my Amell~  Not really the most expressive pictures, but it’s a start toward drawing her more expressively.  Full disclosure: Aja is one of those OCs of mine that I have had trouble with deciding on a definitive appearance for several pictures, and I really want to work on upping my level of consistency when drawing her.
3. Long-Haired Fenris, 2020 - Exactly what it sounds like; this was for practice drawing Fenris’s features (I love how distinct they are), but with long hair because I am weak for it.  This one was a fun piece to shade, and mixing the stylized lineart that I normally use with a greyscale shading spectrum was really enjoyable.
4. Portrait of Ilorin Lavellan, 2016 - This is an oldie.  Basically practicing expressions, and it is technically a WIP, but I’m still very happy with how the shading turned out, especially because this is actually (aside from the unfinished hair) one of the more minimal pieces I’ve done in terms of lineart  It’s still there, and it still shapes the flow of the picture in some ways, but it also ends up flowing with the shading instead of standing out next to it, which I like.  (Both styles are good, though, and I love seeing other artists try both too.)
5. Old Portrait of Aja Amell, 2016 - Much older picture I did of Aja; she... honestly looks very little like the newer one, I think, and that consistency is something I’m still working on, but this one was the first picture of Aja with that particular hairstyle I drew.  What I like about this picture is how young she looks; it fits with her image as a fresh and sheltered Circle mage who’s only about 20 years old at the time of DAO.
6. Old Portrait of Trilyn, 2016 - They very first piece of art I posted to tumblr~ It’s not exactly how I envision Trilyn anymore, but it was still very fun to draw, and helped me get a feel for drawing him in the future.
Dynamic Movement Pictures/”Moment’s in Time”:
1. Tabris in Arl’s Estate, 2020 - TW: blood.  I am super proud of this one.  My ultimate goal is to draw all of my Warden DAO OCs, and I could not believe I’ve never drawn my Tabris, and so here she is.  This was, in large part, practicing expressions because I absolutely love art that depicts characters in motion, or capturing some kind of expression.
2. Velyn in the Rain, 2017 - This one was actually based on some art that I saw in a Teen Wolf fic!  It was an experiment with a more expressive style (and one of the first pieces I did without lineart left in the finished version) and it was a huge step out of my comfort zone.  But overall, I am extremely happy with how it turned out.
3. Jem Nocking an Arrow, 2016 - And here is the lineart version.  This was entirely an excuse to draw my DAI baby, Jem, and to do a cool archer pose because archers are my fav, and I love characters in motion.
4. Solas Teaching Trilyn Fade Magic, 2016 - This one was a painterly picture that was also (like the Velyn picture) something which I tried to keep lineart out of.  Overall, I am proud of a lot of parts of the pic, but I think I would definitely go back over it and change a few things now if I had the patience.
5. Trilyn Closeup WIP, 2016 - TW: injury, blood, mention of abuse in the author’s note.  A lot of early pictures I have are of my OC, Trilyn, and this is one of my absolute favorites.  His entire upper body is technically in the picture, but I hadn’t finished rendering it yet, so this was what I posted.  And it was an experiment with a cross-hatching style with the pencil tool for some texture, with air brush shading and a blurring tool.  It’s a style I had fun playing around with!
6. Trilyn Blood Ritual, 2016 - TW: blood, injury (the slight cut used to supply the ritual with blood).  This one was definitely a sort of “captured moment” from a backstory I gave Trilyn, and I think what I was really going for was an atmospheric piece that could fit with any potential fic I wanted to write for Trilyn.  And then it ended up being practice for extreme lighting/shading techniques, and drawing the blood and the gross mass of demon ichor (or whatever the heck that is) turned out to be highlights of making the piece for me.
Art + Text:
1. Freedom and Control, 2020 - TW: scars, but very difficult to see.  This one was ambitious for me!  It started originally just as Solas and my Tal-Vashoth OC, Saara, facing each other, because I love the dynamic I’ve built for them in my head, but then it turned into an attempt at a tarot-esque background, and just sorta grew from there... Overall, I’m happy with how it turned out, especially with how Solas and Saara themselves turned out.  The version you can actually see a larger view is here.
2. Marianna and Delia Codex and Art, Pt. 1, 2020 - I love writing my own codex entries, first off, and I love combining art with text to create a (hopefully) seamless work.  This work was an attempt to flesh out these OCs of mine with both art (because unique facial structures are hard for me to get down, but so important regardless) and text (because writing~).  I think it turned out well overall, but there are elements of the portraits that I might at some point touch up a bit.
3. Marianna and Delia Codex and Art, Pt. 2, 2020 - Part 2, with what I refer to as a “DAI Outfit Change” because I have always loved seeing fans show their own OCs as they look in DAO, DA2, and then finally DAI.  So I absolutely wanted to jump on that bandwagon myself.  The skin tones are a little off (and I’m sorry about that!) because I was playing with the watercolor brush at that point, and it dilutes the colors I use.  Still working to figure that out, but I was very happy with the overall lineart and structures of the faces.
4. Alistair/Aja Amell Picture with a Blurb, 2017 - Ooooold, old, old, old, OLD!  I still love the art, and I’m soooo happy with how the interaction between Alistair and Aja turned out (drawing kisses is extremely difficult for me; I always end up creating a distorted weird lip-creature, instead of realistically puckered lips...).  I’m not as happy with the blurb that went with it?  At that point, I was still very much figuring out my own DAO worldstate, and the characterization for everyone, so, eh.  Take it with a grain of salt!
Unfinished Costume Designs:
1. Ancient Elvhen Armor with Dwarven Influence, 2018 - People who do costume design work are amazing and mystical beings, and I wish I could do what they do.  This was an attempt at merging the Keeper robes from DAI with a more dwarven armor aesthetic, solely because I created an ancient elvhen character, Ceda, who was taken in by the Cad’halash dwarves mentioned in the Witch Hunt dlc, and I wanted this character to have a mix of the elven style of armor and the dwarven style.  I’m overall decently happy with it, but there’s still that persistent level of self-criticism present.
2. Herald of Andraste Outfit WIP, 2016 - This was a very old picture, not one I showed around a lot, but the idea for this was entirely born of my intense interest in how fashion and outfit designs could be used to create a symbolic image for the Herald of Andraste.  In general, I love the combination of ceremonial armor with long and flowing cloth, so that was what I went for here.  I’m still actually very proud of how this came out, and headcanon something similar for my Herald in my canon DAI worldstate.
Pencil Sketches:
1. Quick Saara Sketch, 2019 - TW: saarebas mouth scars.  Exactly what it says; very quick sketch of Saara I did in a small notebook I carry around with me.  This was basically a test for myself to see if I could manage to draw Saara with the features and facial structure I envisioned for her without needing to use a lot of references.
2. Mass Effect Character Sketch; Jesse, 2018 - Similar reason for drawing this one as the above Saara sketch!  With these characters, I love sometimes the way they can turn out with the specific character creator used for them, and when I draw them, I enjoy trying to create a definitive look for them using what I get from the CC, and my own knowledge of Hooman Faces.
3. Saara Sketch, 2017 - TW: saarebas mouth scars.  A more detailed sketch of Saara than the one above, and one I definitely put more time into overall.  It’s currently the profile picture I’m using for ao3, and is the definitive go-to reference picture I use whenever imagining Saara in a fic, or for other Saara pics I make.  I am extremely proud of this picture, and feel like I should work in graphite more often.  It’s such fun, and the texture is so nice to look at.
4. Sketch of Nameless Alamarri Woman, 2017 - This was a sketch I did of what I envisioned some Alamarri tribes to look like; I used artistic depictions of Gaul tribes and hairstyles for inspiration, and have used this as a go-to reference for my version of Alamarri tribes.  Nothing super notable about this one, but I really liked the way the shape of her face turned out.
Events and Gifts:
1. Another Scar, 2020 - TW: blood, injuries, gore.  The most recent piece of art on the list, and a gift for @cartadwarfwithaheartofgold; featuring sisterly love between Rica and fem!Brosca, which was her requested prompt.  This was a tough piece for me because of the difficulty with the lighting I dealt with.  For some reason, that one particular element of it gave me so much trouble.  Overall, I’m very happy with how it turned out, though, especially the skin tones of the sisters; Brosca I always sort of like as having this greyish, more gaunt look to her, while Rica I like seeing with a darker, richer, and warmer tone to her.
2. A Very Cousland Christmas!, 2019 - This was for a holiday exchange for a server, and I drew a friend’s Cousland (Elissa, the girl on the left) with my Cousland (Gazza, the girl on the right).  I love kid-fic, and I love kid-art, and so I decided... baby Cousland art!  Drawing kid proportions was the toughest part, I recall, and I thiiiink it turned out well, and I’m still quite proud of it overall.  Elissa’s design came entirely from my friend, but I added the holly~
3. Exchange Gift with Dis Brosca and Mabari, 2018 - This was an exchange gift for @fanfoolishness, using her lovely Dis Brosca, and was my first real attempt at backgrounds... I struggled with the coherence of the foreground and background a bit, but I’m still very proud of how it turned out, especially with the colors I had to work with.  What I also really enjoyed working with was the lighting and the expression on Dis’s face.  Backlit subjects are always fun to play around with!
4. Inktober Picture, “Deep”, 2017 - TW: scars, injury, mentions of abuse in the author’s note/attached dialogue snippets.  This was for an Inktober prompt (the only one I’ve ever done, sadly... because I am bad with deadlines...), and again features Trilyn.  Trilyn’s backstory has him a former slave in Tevinter, and a lot of the early works I do for him are sort of deep-dives into his life there.  It’s all meant to be an exploration of the things he endures, and then those moments when he overcomes it all and takes back his own autonomy and self.  This art is definitely provocative, and I can understand if not everyone likes it, but to me, I just wanted to show just what he faces (without glorifying it) before showing the moment of his own triumph.
5. Christmas Holiday Picture with my Brosca and a Friend’s Amell, 2017 - This was a piece of art drawn first by a friend of mine, @nanahuatli~  She drew the Amell, the background, the mistletoe, etc.  All I did was add my Brosca to the mix to finish the image.  It was a lot of fun to do, 1) because it was fun trying to match her style so that the picture looked cohesive, 2) because I love doing collabs with friends, and 3) because it was just such a fun thing to imagine my surly short Brosca, looking at this weird plant/fungus/thing dangling over some puckering human!  It was an absolute joy to do this collab with her!
6. OC Kiss Week Pic of Jem and Saara, 2017 - TW: saarebas mouth scars.  A spur-of-the-moment thing meant to demonstrate just what kind of dynamic my OC, Jem, has with my other OC, Saara (both of whom are members of Leliana’s network in DAI).  This was a very quick picture (deadlines...) and was mostly just to have fun drawing these two characters interacting, and to see if I could make them look like themselves.  I think I did a decent job with it overall, especially with Jem’s kissy-face!  (Again... drawing kisses are the bane of my existence, although hands and feet take a close second.)

tell us about your wardens lad
SAM YOU'RE MY FAVORITE PERSON AND I LOVE YOU
Brief Summaries of the Wardens, as of DAO:
Jairden Surana (my most fleshed out character):
Age 20 (born 9:10), cis male (he/him), disaster bisexual. He's 5' tall. Five foot 0. According to Google that's 152 cm. He's a small boy. I'm not good at physical descriptions so I'll just add a drawing or screenshot of him later.
Spirit Healer
Morrigan Romance (Opposites attract, what can I say?)
Too precious for this world. Way too kind and forgiving for Thedas to deserve him. Literally saw a Qunari 2 heads taller than him who was charged with murdering a bunch of people and was like "We're gonna be friends now. Because I said."
A huge pushover until you mess with someone he cares about, and he is very much capable of murder (though you wouldn't think so upon first meeting him).
Overly polite.
Biggest botany nerd ever.
Just a small dork.
"No, Jowan, we can't sacrifice the arless-"
His mom is actually from clan Lavellan! I have an alternate worldstate where he's the Inquisitor.
Will (Irrelevant OC mentioned earlier) is his younger half-brother!
Khoren Brosca:
Age 20, probably (she doesn't know and neither do I), cis female (she/her), a bit on the tall side for a dwarf. Vaguely functional pansexual.
Warrior (no spec yet, probably berserker or something tho)
Completely fucking feral.
Dual wields axes because fuck you.
Seems standoffish and uncaring, cares A Lot™
Trust Issues, daddy issues, just... Issues ™.
Alistair romance (has flirted with Leliana, only because I have no self control)
Very protective over the people closest to her.
Like Jared, 19, she never fucking learned how to read.
She's great and I love her.
"Son of a sodding nugshit."
Eran Tabris:
MY CHILD-
Age: 21 (born 9:09), nonbinary (they/them), asexual. Kinda bulky in build for an elf, average height.
Born Erana Tabris, and yeeted the "a" at the end off upon being conscripted into the Wardens.
Also feral, but is capable of being chill. Unlike Khoren.
"I WON'T HESITATE, BITCH."
Dual wield rogue
Will literally butcher a man if their patience is tested (example: the noble guy from their Origin)
Chaotic Bastard
No romance
Jairden is their cousin (Will isn't though, by blood at least)
Valori Amell:
Age 21 (born 9:09), cis female (she/her), average height. Sexuality? Who knows, definitely not straight though.
Pyromaniac with a bit of Entropy (may be a blood mage, have yet to decide)
If she were a Hawke she'd be purple.
"I'm just gonna stand back, and let the chaos unfold. Is it my business? No. Is my nose in it? Definitely."
Cullen's crush was a mutual thing, let's put it that way.
No decided romance. (Unless you count flirting with Cullen)
Ran STRAIGHT to Irving when Jowan told her shit.
Chaotic neutral.
Here come the Cousland Twins!
Wyle Cousland:
Age: 22 (born 9:08), cis male (he/him), gay as fuck. Kinda lanky.
Dual wield rogue part 2
Big dumbass energy
Third born child, baby of the family, dramatic as all hell.
"I am GOING to flirt with the pretty assassin, and NO, Wade, you can't stop me!"
"The closet?? Who is she, never heard of her!"
Full of jokes and pranks.
Favorite game is "how many times can I steal Alistair's coinpurse and put it back before he notices anything's happened."
A part of the joking is him deflecting how hard his parents' death is hitting him (gotta love that sweet sweet angst).
He and Wade make fun of each other constantly. Come on, they're siblings, what did you expect?
Very high-energy and extroverted, social and talkative.
Wade Cousland:
Age: 22 (born 9:08), cis male (he/him), straight. Bulky compared to Wyle.
Has not slept since 9:07 Dragon (aka the womb).
Sword and shield warrior.
Was initially going to be my obligatory asshole character, but I didn't have the heart to be mean to anyone.
Seems kinda cold and anti-social, but is a kind and considerate guy.
Very introverted, not a fan of small talk. Would rather go hit a training dummy, personally.
"Wyle, no."
Is basically Wyle's impulse control, and the certified Responsible Sibling.
People have judged his brother in the past. Each of them were at least punched by Wade at some point. 0 exceptions.
Has a crush on Leliana, is very much teased by Wyle about it.
Dry humor.
Has thrown Wyle into a lake when said twin brother would not leave him alone.
Spends the first part of the game mostly keeping to himself, quietly grieving his parents, as well as those lost at Ostagar (used much healthier coping mechanisms than Wyle)
Okay! I think that's pretty much everyone?? I love them all. I probably missed some things. Feel free to ask pretty much anything about any of them! Thank you Sam for asking about my children- I mean my OCs!

My Dalish Warden headcanons
I journal my headcanons about my Dalish Warden Atheline Mahariel, but my hand is seriously giving out on the heavy writing. I have two other characters in development, Lethel Lavellan (she’s the first one I worked on).
This is for the sake of documenting my current development of Mahariel, and I apologize if I get any of the DA lore wrong :) They’re not really headcanons but more so going over my characterization of Mahariel.
Atheline Mahariel, Athy for short to her friends. She was 20 years old at the beginning of the Fifth Blight. She’s a warrior specializing in two-handed weapons.
She’s stupid strong despite her short stature even for an elf. She’s very careless in battle and is the one to set off all the traps during combat. Zevran literally trains his ass off to up his lockpicking skills to disengage all traps beforehand.
She and Zevran eventually get into a friends with benefit relationship. She had never experienced sex, and was never really interested in it until getting to know Zevran. She was pretty eager to give it a go, and really enjoyed it with him.
Though Zevran was really on the idea of them just being friends with intimacy involved, Atheline had developed special feelings for him, though she didn’t really understand that she had those feelings at the time. She was satisfied with keeping things between them as just “friends.”
Atheline wanted to explore her sexual experience more through sleeping with other people. Though she was definitely satisfied at the Pearl, she ended up reserving this space solely for Zevran. She didn’t understand why, but she felt some sort of a spark with Zevran but none with her other encounters (later on, she realizes it’s because she loved him).
Though she reserves herself to engage sexually only with Zevran, she didn’t mind Zevran engaging with others than herself.
Atheline is proud of her Dalish heritage, but not in the sense Lavellan is. My Lavellan is interested in uncovering the truth of elven lore/history, whereas Atheline focuses more on her people standing up against slavery enforced by Tevinter. She takes the most pride in her people’s bravery and fortitude, fighting against forced human religion and exploit, knowing the consequences.
Atheline was initially not a religious person. She didn’t really care to pray to the Creators, for she knew they wouldn’t be able to hear her prayers. But when Tamlen went missing and she had to enter the shem world as a Grey Warden, she prayed relentlessly to Mythal and Andruil for guidance.
She got the same Vallaslin as Tamlen and didn’t put much thought into actually picking a god to draw strength from. No matter what god it represents, a Vallaslin is a Vallaslin, right?
The biggest value she learns from her culture is creating a close, familial connection with everyone in the clan. This is why Mahariel is so well accustomed to welcoming anyone who wanted to join her in her journey. She was able to create deep, personal bonds very quickly and easily with those around her.
Keeper Marethari also taught her clan that yes, learning more about their elven past is important, and they should continue to find supporting artifacts that’d expand their knowledge, but no knowledge is at the cost of a clansman. Safety and well being of individuals came first. Atheline really took that to heart, though she’d often forget this lesson in place for dangerous adventures.
Despite her deep love for her clan, she also craved adventures beyond the forest. She wanted to know what the world was like beyond the Dalish, beyond the elves. She’d sometimes sneak out of camp with Tamlen and Merrill to visit a nearby village. There’d be a summer festival, with food, music and dancing. She was so intrigued to see human traditions. Tamlen would tease she’s gonna become one of the “flat-ears.” They’d regularly sneak out to nearby villages every time the camp relocated, though Ashalle had caught them at some point and scolded them for it.
Mahariel never thought she’d be “adventuring” in the outside world at the cost of Tamlen’s life and feels guilty for becoming a Grey Warden. Why was she saved in place of him?
Tamlen and Mahariel were best friends since birth, and they met Merrill when they were 10 years old. While Merrill was timid and strict with herself as she was the clan’s First, Tamlen and Mahariel would try and help her relax and engage in fun stuff together. Tamlen and Atheline would invite Merrill out on hunting together, and the two hunters would compete who had the best kill. Merrill would be the mediator during these competitions.
When entering their teen years, Merrill and Tamlen began having romantic feelings for Atheline. Merrill and Tamlen knew that they shared mutual feelings for Mahariel, and thus their relationship became strained and distant because of it.
Merrill stopped joining in on sneaking into villages with the duo, for she felt that her relationship with them were weaker than the bond between Tamlen and Atheline. She slowly continued to distance herself from the two, and eventually Atheline confronted her about it. Merrill simply says she wanted to focus more on her training as the next Keeper, and that she shouldn’t let such distractions keep her from her studies.
“That’s bullshit, Merr. What are you doing pulling on Fenharel’s dick for? I’m sorry if I did anything to upset you, but I can’t change if you don’t tell me.”
“It’s because I’m in love with you, you twat!”
And there it is, Merrill blurted out the one fear she had, loving Mahariel, loving another woman. In my hc because there aren’t many Dalish people who can preserve the elven gift left by their ancestors (magic), having Merrill was a miraculous gift to the clan. And to keep the old magic alive in the clan, Merrill is expected to produce another bearer of magic. Being with another woman was not an option for Merrill. Merrill not only distanced herself because she knew how Tamlen felt and thought that she had no chance with Mahariel, but she also knew that her clan would never let her be with Mahariel.
On Atheline’s part, I would like to think that she had feelings for Tamlen but was too late to realize it. She didn’t understand her feelings and was never really bothered to understand them, other than the fact that she cared really deeply for him, but she didn’t think it was any different from how she felt about Merrill (which is why she has a hard time understanding how she feels for Zevran). Atheline ends up rejecting Merrill’s confession, saying that she doesn’t feel the same way, but she always cares about her as a friend. This breaks Merrill’s heart and asks Mahariel if she’d instead be with Tamlen, to which Atheline doesn’t reply because she doesn’t know how to. Merrill and Atheline’s relationship become pretty strained because of it (this will be around the time Dalish origins starts).
Atheline only realizes her feelings when she sees Tamlen as a ghoul and when she was forced to kill him.
Sadly, Tamlen and Atheline never discussed about his feelings for her. She wasn’t clueless; she knew he had something to say, but he’d just treat her the same as how he always had, and with how it ended with Merrill, she didn’t have the heart to force an answer out of Tamlen either. If he had confessed to her, she wouldn’t have known what to do. Reject him like how she rejected Merrill? Ruin the brotherhood they had together because she couldn’t sort out her feelings?
Tamlen knew how Atheline felt, which was why he decided not to speak to her about it. And they would never speak about it until he reappears into her life as a ghoul.
“Always…loved you…”
Tamlen and Atheline wanted to go into the cave to find anything interesting to bring back to Merrill in hopes of mending their friendships, for they knew that Merrill was always delighted to discover new elven artifacts. They thought they could do the same with the mirror.
When Atheline becomes a Grey Warden, she didn’t give up on searching for Tamlen. She made it her life mission and commitment to find him and save him. She didn’t believe Duncan and the clan when they said that Tamlen is dead. She found no body. He must be alive. And he was.
She blames herself when Tamlen goes missing. She had let her arrogance and thirst for adventure get the better of her. The Dread Wolf had guided her this entire time. She blamed herself for Merrill’s heartbreak, for Tamlen’s unrequited feelings, and for the torture he must be going through with the taint.
Because of this, she becomes extremely protective of her party members during combat. She lets no one step into an unknown area until she examines it first. She’d take an arrow for her teammates when she can, causing her to take on the most injury out of the party. She’d tank her way through it if it meant letting her friends go unharmed.
Many of her companions thought she was arrogant and condescending because of her “I can do it myself” attitude, but when she takes that first hit for a companion, they realize it’s because she’s terrified of having any one of them injured.
It was finally during the trials to find the Urn of Sacred Ashes when Atheline finally accepts the idea of Tamlen being gone. It was when the spirit had taken the form of Tamlen and had said, “Goodbye, my friend. We will never meet again.” That she finally let herself think that it’s okay to forgive herself for this tragedy.
But then he comes back. He comes back and she can’t save him. She regretted not telling him how she felt. She regretted letting him die without telling him how sorry she was she took too long to realize her feelings.
She does him one last favor and kills him instantly so that she may end his pain. She only feels empty. Alistair is the first to ask if she’s alright, that this was the only way and that it had been a mercy to him. She just wanted him to shut up.
Mahariel goes into the forest by herself, with Tamlen’s body in her arms, wanting to give him a proper Dalish burial.
Zevran followed her into the forest, and with not a single word, helps her bury Tamlen. She allowed herself to sob and cry relentlessly, and Zevran would simply wrap his arms around her.
After recovering from Tamlen’s death, she confesses to Zevran that she loves him out of the blues, completely startling Zevran and him rejecting her confession outright because an assassin cannot love.
“And that’s fine. Just because someone loves you doesn’t mean you need to love them back. You don’t have to do anything at all, really. But I don’t want to make the same mistake I did with Tamlen. I love you, and that’s all there’s to it.”
This completely flusters Zevran and he has no idea what to do with it. He’s been growing fondly of her day after day and had become even more protective of her, but to have her tell him outright that she loves him is just….weird. Incomprehensible.

DnD Ask Meme- Talise
Link to original, blank meme: https://thejenesaisquoigirl.tumblr.com/post/186529464305/dnd-asks More about my tiefling swashbuckler under the cut~!
1) What would they consider to be their biggest failure?
Oof. Maybe not being able to save her family, or at least her sister-in-law and nephew. Maybe her (former) deep reliance on alcohol once her memories started coming back. Trauma is a motherfucker
2) What’s the story behind their name?
When I first went to grad school visit days at my current institution two years ago, there was another person interviewing with a name that sounded similar. Really loved it and added on LaPearl for her alias’ last name (for her eyes). Her birth name is my Warden from Dragon Age Origins (Hozanna Cousland, only more french) since the backstory shares a lot of similarities.
3) What’s their relationship with their family?
When she was Hosanna, very close. They all loved learning (though maybe different things), the people in their city, and each other. She was closest to her brother, Yanis, despite their age difference. She felt adrift after losing them and finding Yanis has upset any equilibrium she was finding.
4) What’s one song that describes them or is them?
The cover of Rise that Superfruit did on their channel
5) Who is their best friend?
Yanis was her best friend growing up; the years after losing him were rough but she was working towards a place of resignation...then they found him alive. As Talise, it’s super weird because yes, her brother used to be able to embarrass her in her previous life; but now, it’s the first time she’s ever felt shame. Hosanna, while sharing a small flair for the dramatic, was a very different person than Talise was crafted to be. But in the party, Jax is the closest to a best friend.
6) Why are they their class?
She was reincarnated by a coast druid, and it was only natural to join a crew due to not remembering her past right away. Her previous skill with dueling with a rapier mixed with her familiarity with locks led to her embellishing her new self into the type of sailor one would find in a storybook.
7) What do they think of their party members?
She feels distinct lines in the sand amongst the party. At first, said lines seemed only about their sleeping habits (there was no other way the rooming arrangements could have shaken out and everyone live). But now, it feels very much like two separate factions working together. Separately: Q- she’s terrified of everything she does being in that book, and she has a hard time wrestling with his innocent naiveté when it reminds her of who she used to be. Briony- Not used to being around women in a strictly friendship sense, but is happy for her presence so Q has someone of a similar maturity. Braxton- He’s rarely there. Annoyed yet darkly amused when he takes point with trap checking and lock-picking; annoyed because she assumes he believes himself an expert in everything (maybe due to him being slightly misogynistic)...amused because she's better and it’s funny to watch him fail due to his own hubris. Jax- They instinctually understand each other. It’s complicated but in a good way as she thinks the world of him. Caspian- Like recognizes like but she feels they have different motivations behind collecting information...and it’s hard for her to move beyond a betrayal of trust. She does enjoy bantering with him and sharing a penchant for innuendo.
8) In what ways are they similar to you?
Insightful, observant, curious, collector of knowledge, has two sides to protect her softness
9) In what ways are they different from you?
Unashamed in the way she moves through the world, unabashedly flirtatious and teasing, confident, how she copes with things (tends to be physical indulgences), seeing trust as black and white, unafraid of confrontation or large birds
10) What do they look for in a romantic partner, if they have a romantic orientation?
She’s super pan and attracted to interesting people. She loves those who keep her guessing and have layers she can explore without ever becoming bored. With a lot of hidden quirks, they need to be fine in indulging her intense love for museums or sleeping in until the latest time possible. Because of stuff that happened in her past, she needs someone who she feels safe with and who can handle that baggage. Someone who can keep up with her banter but who can be soft with her; she wants an equal partner and not someone who she has to take the reins from all the time. So confidence, intelligence, depth, strength, compassion.
11) If they had a patronus or animagus form, what would it be?
Ooooooooo....idk. Maybe a panther animagus? Something that slinks around with confidence but can be very soft. Patronus would be a cat like Talis or a hippogriff like Fantôme...or a peafowl.
12) What do they smell like?
The ocean and "oriental” notes with hints of coconut and citrus. Someone who has sailed the coastline would have had the opportunity to collects lots of sachets of things to scent their clothing along with various oils, etc which lends itself to the “oriental” perfume family.
13) What is their secret skill?
Sketching/drawing. She’s intensely private about it; but has charcoal, pencils, and a sketchbook in her pack that’s rather like a diary.
14) What is their relationship to spirituality?
Non-existent save for some superstitions. Hosanna was religious but not superstitious; Talise reversed it as she had a hard time retaining her faith in anything.
15) If they were to be remembered for something, what would they want to be remembered for?
NOT for what happened in her previous life, unless that remembrance served the greater good. She’d just like to be remembered, in general, rather than lost to lines in a book. She wants people to speak kindly of her and the small amount of goodness she’s put into the world.
16) Why did they become an adventurer?
Chance meeting in Dolcino when she was taking a break from sailing haha And news of Yanis came up on their travels so she had to see it through.
17) What’s one thing about their backstory that came to you after you already started playing the campaign?
One notable thing--hadn’t even thought about her being an alcoholic (sober now) until making her playlist. For some reason, “Chandelier” kept coming up and it had to have been a sign because it’s deepened her in ways I wasn’t expecting. Also her tattoos. And her not being a morning person xD
18) Do you have any headcanons for them that haven’t come up in game? Or headcanons for other party members?
Absolutely. Her tattoos and why she has them (only one person in the party has probably seen them); what drove her to her alcoholism; and her sketching. Other party members: Q- that he has tried to teach some magic to Quirrel enough times that Quirrel can mimic the somatic components of some spells; that he’s instantly awake in the mornings with a pep in his step. Briony- that she genuinely doesn’t know or understand how privileged she is and so makes statements about some type of princess-y thing she thinks is normal but is very much not. Jax- he has Talise braid his hair before sleeping because it’s more effective than a ponytail in keeping it neat at night; he quietly chats with Francis when he needs to think through things weighing on his mind; he keeps a tiny, secret notebook to make notes to himself on things he remembers, things he enjoys, etc. Caspian- when he reads dialogue he really likes in books, he’ll speak it aloud until he figures out the exact voice for the character so he can use it for later;
19) Any ships with your character? If a PC or NPC, what interaction launched it?
She’s the first character in a LONG time I legit ship with another PC. Whether it becomes romantic or remains platonic (it’s not just up to me or Talise), Jax is the most significant person in her life–excluding her brother. They just got each other from day one and they seem to be the only ones able to easily talk to the other, even when the subject is difficult. The canon you created about her feeling safe with Jax is 100% true; ever since Before, she has a hard time sleeping around other people but she trusts him enough to even share a bed…and he’s the only one with whom she would never be anything but truthful. At their core, they are people reinventing themselves after tragedy but don’t know if they’re doing it right. But Jax makes Talise feel it’s alright to be who she authentically is rather than acting the part she’s written for herself; and to find joy again in the things from her past. The ship’s legit launch was after their serious conversation about “equivalent exchange” in relationships (about Caspian) and has since been buoyed by all their side chats + interactions. “…are you just going to stare at me?” “Until you’re ready.”
20) What would your character consider their biggest success? Or what is your favorite success your character has had so far?
Finding her brother and beginning to reconcile Hosanna with Talise. My favorite success was that conversation mentioned above...or successfully surprising characters and peeps with her backstory drops.

ANYWAYS
Hey all! It’s me. I created an entire new blog just so I could like/reblog/follow/send asks from a related blog instead of from the eclectic hell that’s my main blog. (Don’t ask, it’s a mess and a half. lol)
So about the actual blog owner. My name is Liz, Scar/let, or Violet. I’ll respond to either. She/her or they/them please. I’m bi, I’m ace, and nb as hell. I love Dragon Age (obviously), Mass Effect (YES, this does include Andromeda), and a few other video game series. I like writing and drawing, and might eventually be able to get Mira right enough to post something.
Gatekeepers of any kind are not welcome here and can kindly screw off. Feel free to let me know if I make a mistake or do something and I’ll happily remove or edit the post as needed.
My OCs under the cut, because that’s why we’re all here!
Tumblr media
Miralla Lavellan
>>don’t ask me her age I’m not quite sure what I want to make it either<< Oldest of eleven siblings and closest to her 4 year younger brother, Evunial, and youngest sister/sibling as a whole, Vanowen. Went to the conclave with her two-year younger brother, Pimet, and consequently wants Cory’s guts for the explosion that killed him. More agnostic than the rest of her family, but will defend the Dalish and their beliefs vehemently should anyone speak negatively without cause about them. Believes that the values they stand for are as good as any and strives to live by them.
The above bit is part of why it took her a while to warm up to Solas - he knows so much about the Fade! He’s right about how elves are going to be viewed after this and - hey waitaminute when did he get a stick shoved up his ass about the Dalish?
She did end up romancing him and she WANTS to stop him peacefully but won’t be surprised if (probably WHEN) it comes to blows. When it comes down to it her family matters most to her and if Solas threatens the rest of them because of his plans she’s ready to stop him forcefully.
Was friends with Cole and Dorian but mostly kept to herself.
Mage who started off pretending to be an archer. A VERY lucky archer when it came to close quarters combat. She can shoot a bow just fine at range, but how she usually wound up getting out of cqc fights with little more than scratches for her proclaimed lack of knowledge in the area was the best ‘luck streak’ her companions knew of. Her cover was blown when Corypheus attacked Haven and she was forced to use magic to keep herself warm enough and healed enough to follow the Inquisition through the mountains. She started training as a Knight Enchanter shortly after arriving at Skyhold and once she actually started using magic was renowned as one of the fiercest battlemages on the field.
Personal hc - I really like to think that she was a powerful mage before the mark, so with the mark she was able to learn to be a dreamer mage as well.
Tumblr media
Marian Hawke
I don’t really have much for her. I’m not as attached to my Hawke as I am to my DAO and DAI characters. I’m undecided about whether or not she romanced Fenris or Anders. Canonically it used to be Anders but considering certain circumstances in my real life ((Read: Long story short, I had to live with a horrible person who really liked Anders. Kind of hypocritical considering what Anders stands for but y’know.)) Not his fault, but I grew really disinterested in him as a character. Which sucks.
I’m still in camp ‘Anders did nothing wrong except being rude to Merrill’ but I just can’t with him. If any ace + aro friendly Andersmancers want to talk headcanons with me PLEASE feel free because I’m not letting my asshole ex-roommate ruin his character for me.
Healer mage, sarcastic personality with a hint of diplomatic when tasteful and/or necessary. Friends with Carver because fuck you and your contrived preset sibling rivalries BioWare, I’ll be best friends with my little brother and you can’t stop me. Sided with the mages and let Anders live.
Would punch Cullen Rutherford on sight.
Sharlena “Lena” Surana
No pictures sadly. Imagine pasty ghosty white skin and black hair. Wears glasses. ~~i can’t see eye colors in origins very well so imagine any eye color for her idc~~
Snarky, closed off mage. Tried to play by Circle rules during her Origin because she wanted to be a model mage, said “Fuck it all” promptly 20 minutes later when Dickhead Knight Commander wanted to get her in trouble for playing along. Regrets ruining her friendship with Jowan over a group that doesn’t even see her as trustworthy and valuable. Distrusts all Templars because of this.
Romanced Alistair. Was kind of dense and didn’t know he was flirting with her until he gave her the rose. She preserved it with magic and wears it with her on her journeys. She wasn’t too keen on him when she heard he was a Templar but she did relax a bit once she learned it wasn’t his choice.
Grew comfortable around him after a few weeks adventuring and quietly began being a bit friendlier. She helped repair the amulet Fiona left Alistair. (I refuse to believe it was a Chantry amulet though.) He gave her the rose shortly after. While she was a bit blindsided by it, it wasn’t unwelcome either. Alistair was cute and kind, and maaaaaaaaaaaaybe she had a tiny bit of a crush.
And that was that. I like to think in my canon she refused to talk to Alistair about the dark ritual but he guessed something was up and went to find answers for himself, and agreed, on his own terms, to it to save both their lives. (Because no way in HELL was he going to get the final blow in if she was alive.)
They killed the Archdemon, saw Anora crowned as Queen, and left to help clear out remaining Darkspawn.
Another personal hc - I like to think Lena asked Morrigan how she was able to have a child with a Gray Warden, and if she could be taught at least, the part of the ritual that facilitated the chances of having a child. It worked and they had a child, named Valyrae.
Asked Zevran to teach her to dual wield and became an Arcane Warrior. Later tempered this with a BIT of healing magic training, but she’s still the small warrior who can, should, must, and will kick darkspawn ass.
Would punch Cullen Rutherford x2.

Got bored. Decided to answer these.
1: Which origin did you first choose? My first was the human noble origins. Sophia Cousland was my first and favorite Warden.
2: Which origin is your favourite? I think the City Elf origin. I mean I HATE the whole Shianni-gets-raped bit, but I think most of the others are just a little by-the-numbers. Not saying they’re bad by any means, but the City Elf origin makes you feel a lot of things, and it’s not afraid to address some difficult situations.
3: Do you have multiple Grey Wardens/playthroughs or just one? I have one of each!
4: If you have more multiple Grey Wardens, are they in different/ parallel universes or in the same one? They all exist (or rather, existed) in the same universe to me, but the only three who lived to go on the adventure were Sophia Cousland, Gillan Mahariel, and Tara Tabris.
5: Did your Warden want to become a Grey Warden? Sophia absolutely did! Gillan didn’t want to, but she knew she had to if she was going to live with the blight caused by the mirror. Tara was VERY opposed to the idea, but she came around to accepting the role.
6: Does your Warden regret becoming a Grey Warden? Sophia does. Gillan does not. Tara dies a proud Warden.
7: What was your Warden’s first impression of Duncan? Sophia was intrigued and impressed by him. Gillan was a little afraid of him, but she soon found out he was a good man and was very respectful of him. Tara didn’t like him, but as the journey went on, she began to look back and realize he really did save her life.
8: Do they still feel the same about Duncan as they did before the Joining? Gillan does. Sophia and Tara were a little shaken by the joining, but they both agreed that what he did, he had to.
9: What was your Warden’s first impression of Alistair? Sophia liked him. She could see he was a kindred spirit and loved his sass. Gillan appreciated the sass, but she was a little disappointed when Alistair did not want to be a leader. In her mind, he had the most experience with the Wardens so he should have lead, regardless of how well he could lead. Tara just didn’t care. Alistair was annoying to her.
10: Do they still feel the same about Alistair? Sophia and Gillan both regard Alistair as a dear friend. For a time, Gillan and Alistair had a thing for one another, but it never went too far. Alistair couldn’t be with her once he became king, and while she was upset by it, Gillan knew it was the right decision. Tara did end up liking Alistair, even if they never became close friends.
11: What was your Warden’s first impression of Morrigan? Sophia was *slightly* intrigued. Gillan was slightly afraid of her, and Tara was suspicious of her.
12: What do they think of Morrigan now? Sophia no longer trusts her, but in a sad way. She and Morrigan had been becoming friends right before the end, but then she tried to make her convince Alistair to sleep with her for the ritual, and Sophia almost agreed. Once she confronted Alistair, she couldn’t bring herself to make him do it. After that, Morrigan left and Sophia felt betrayed. Gillan was not involved in this exchange, but was shocked when Sophia told her. After the blight, she did try to track Morrigan down. No one knows for sure what happened, but Gillan did admit she did find her, but their reunion did not end well.
13: What was your Warden’s first impression of Leliana? Sophia immediately felt a connection with her. Gillan was a little creeped out by her “The Maker sent me” excuse, and Tara didn’t want her to join.
14: What do they think of Leliana now? Sophia and Leliana are married now. Gillan is a close friend to them both. At the end, Tara warmed up to her.
15: What was your Warden’s first impression of Sten? Gillan was terrified of him at first. Sophia and Tara were both intrigued.
16: What are your Warden’s thought on Sten now? Gillan is still a tiny bit afraid of him, but she likes him none the less. Sophia has a deep respect for him.
17: What was your Warden’s first impression of Wynne? Sophia and Tara only saw her as an old woman. Gillan respected her the way she respected a wise elder of her own clan.
18: What does your Warden think about Wynne now? Sophia still sees her as an old woman, but in a loving way. Gillan stayed about the same.
19: What was your Warden’s first impression of Zevran? None of them trusted him. But Sophia decided to show mercy and recruit him. Tara was extremely weary of him.
20: What does your Warden think of Zevran now? Sophia and Gillan see him as a dear friend, even if they haven’t spoken to him in years.
21: What was your Warden’s first impression of Oghren? Sophia thought he was funny. Gillan didn’t like him. Tara sympathized with him.
22: What are your Warden’s thoughts on Oghren now? Sophia and Gillan see him like an old drunk uncle. While they weren’t the closest of friends, Oghren respected Tara more than he admitted and even named his daughter in loving memory of her.
23: What was your Warden’s first impression of Shale? None of them knew what to think of her.
24: What does your Warden think of Shale now? None of them still knew what to think of her. Sophia felt like she was starting to understand her though.
25: What was your Warden’s first impression of Loghain? Sophia had grown up hearing the stories of Loghain and the battles he fought against the Orlesians and looked up to him as a sort of hero. Gillan saw him as just another human in charge, but she got a bad vibe from him. Tara hated him on principle.
26: What are your Warden’s thoughts on Loghain now? Sophia’s entire world was thrown into disarray when Loghain betrayed the King and the Wardens. Gillan was shocked, but perhaps not surprised. Tara was just upset that she was right.
27: What does your Warden think about the Mabari war dog? How did your Warden name the Mabari that joins you when you head for Lothering? Chupacabra was Sophia’s childhood pet and she loved him more than anything (at least until she met Leliana). Gillan was initially suspicious of him, since the closest thing she had to associate with him was tales of the Dread Wolf. But soon she grew to love him. Tara saw him as just an animal, but a useful and cool animal.
28: What does your Warden think of Flemeth? Sophia was slightly afraid of her. Gillan, surprisingly, was intrigued by her because she had heard the tales of Asha’bellenar. Tara didn’t care.
29: What is your Warden’s favourite color? Sophia: Violet. Gillan: Blue. Tara: Lime Green.
30: What is your Warden’s favourite food? Sophia: Homebaked bread. Gillan: Soups. Tara: Chicken.
31: How old is your Warden? At the start of their journeys Sophia is 18 (almost 19), Gillan just turned 25, and Tara is 36 but turns 37 during the adventure.
32: What is your Warden’s gender identity (this does not have to match gender chosen in the character creator, of course!) all three are Female
33: What is your Warden’s romantic/sexual orientation? Sophia is a lesbian, Gillan and Tara are straight.
34. Does your Warden end up with one of the companions in any way? Sophia and Leliana fell deeply for one another. Gillan and Alistair had a budding relationship, but it didn’t go too far before they mutually agreed it had to end so he could be king. While Zevran (and even a drunk Oghren) hit on her, Tara did not indulge in anything sexual.
35: Is your Warden a warrior/rogue/mage? Sophia trained as a warrior, Gillan trained as an archery-based rogue, and Tara was a duel-wielding rouge.
36: What is your Warden’s weapon of choice? Sophia used a sword and shield (sometimes duel swords). Gillan used her trusty bow, and Tara had two favorite daggers she named Wrath and Justice.
37: What are your Warden’s specializations? Sophia specialized as a champion, Gillan as a ranger, and Tara as a bard.
38: What are some of your Warden’s strenghts? Sophia: Persuasion, Gillan: Stealth, Tara: Intimidation.
39: What are some of your Warden’s weaknesses? Sophia: Over-confidence, Gillan: Fear, Tara: Trust issues
40: Your favourite companion? Leliana
41: Your Warden’s favourite companion? Sophia: Leliana, Gillan: Alistair, Tara: Sten
42: What is your Warden’s biggest secret? Sophia and Gillan didn’t keep secrets from their companions. Tara, however, tried to keep her whole life a secret and refused to talk about it. After the ordeal with the Broken Circle, Gillan saw a glimpse into Tara’s deepest repressed desires as well as her deepest fears. Knowing Gillan saw it, she did confess to her and to Sophia that all she wanted was to have a happy family, but all chances of it had been taken from her. She had been pregnant, but had a miscarriage, her mother was taken and killed by humans, her cousin Shianni (who was almost like a daughter to her) was raped by humans, and her journey with the Wardens was taking her away from Shianni and her father. She was bitter towards the world because she didn’t know how to cope with this loss.
43: What is your Warden’s biggest regret? I don’t think Tara had any regrets at the end, and I don’t really think Gillan did either, but Sophia is a different story. The three of them drew straws to decide who would have to sacrifice herself to slay the dragon (if Riordan didn’t kill it). Sophia drew the short straw, and when the moment came, she was too afraid to die. Tara, after growing to accept and befriend her, took pitty on her and took her place. To this day, Sophia has nightmares reliving this moment and lives the rest of her life with survivor’s guilt.
44: Can your Warden read very well? Do they like reading? Sophia was raised with the best education in Highever, and would read a good book every so often. Tara was partially illiterate, but could make out most of the words. Gillan on the other hand is a total bookworm and LOVES reading.
45: What does your Warden do in their spare time/off-duty? Honestly, Gillan is either reading or drawing in her spare time. Sophia spends time with Leliana when she’s not traveling. Tara used to work with the merchants in the alienage.
46: Are your Warden’s parents still alive? Sophia’s parents are both dead. Gillan’s father is for sure dead, but her mother abandoned her shortly after she was born. She has no idea if her mother is still alive, but she likes to think she’s out there somewhere. Tara’s mother is dead, but her father is alive and well.
47: Did your Warden have a good relationship with their parents? Sophia had a decent enough relationship with her father, but a strained relationship with her mother, who did not approve of her sexual preferences or her training as a warrior. Gillan never knew her parents. Tara had a very close and very loving relationship with both her parents.
48: Does your Warden have any siblings (in canon or headcanon, it’s all ok!) Sophia has a brother, Fergus. Gillan and Tara have no siblings (as far as Gillan knows, it is possible her mother is still alive and has other children, but Gillan has no way of knowing).
49: Is your Warden religious? (Chantry/Dalish belief/Tevinter belief/something else) Gillan and Tara are not particularly religious, but Sophia is Andastrian.
50: What does your Warden like most about themselves? Tara likes her hair, because it reminds her of her mother. Gillan can’t look at herself that way, she’s not very confident in herself. Sophia loves her own muscles. (Even though she’s not my buffest OC, that award goes to Evelyn Lavellan lol)
51: What is something other people like about your Warden? People love that Sophia is generous and very much a people’s person, always on the side of the little people. People like Gillan’s quiet wisdom and rational thinking. While most people don’t like how bitter Tara can be, they do respect her fearlessness.
52: Is your Warden introverted or extroverted? (or somewhere in between?) Sophia is extroverted, Gillan is EXTREMELY introverted, Tara is in between.
53: Does your Warden enjoy nature? All three love it. Well I guess maybe Tara tolerates it.
54: What did your Warden think of Lothering? Sophia was heartbroken about their plight. Gillan had no real connection to humans prior to this, and she hadn’t gotten to know the humans on her team yet, but she still felt bad for them. Tara only saw more sadness and more oppression and felt like nothing changed.
55: What did your Warden think of the problem in the Brecilian Forest? How did they solve it? Gillan more or less lead this expedition and the others followed her lead. She managed to resolve it peacefully, even though Tara wanted her to kill the werewolves.
56: What did your Warden think of the problem at the Circle of Magi? How did they solve it? Gillan’s deepest darkest fear is demons, and she was TERRIFIED of the Circle’s problems. While she was somewhat traumatized by the events of the quest, she did stand up and face her fears when all her friends were taken by the sloth demon. She was taken into the fade and she fought her way to her friends and single-handedly rescued them. In the end, they saved the mages.
57: What did your Warden think of the problem at Redcliffe? How did they solve it? At this point in the journey, Tara still was distrustful of humans and she thought it was bullshit. Sophia had been to Redcliffe several times as a child, and wanted to save the town and Conor. Gillan was along for the ride, but agreed mostly with Sophia.
58: What did your Warden think of the problem in Orzammar? How did they solve it? OH GOD I HATED ORZAMMAR AND THE DEEP ROADS SO THEREFORE THEY HATE IT TOO. And they make Harrowmount King.
59: What did your Warden think of the Landsmeet? How did they solve it? Sophia lead them in the Landsmeet, and they resolved it mostly peacefully. She still had to duel Loghain.
60: Who does your Warden put on the throne? Alistair.
61: Your favourite NPC? Shianni
62: Your favourite main quest? Nature of the Beast
63: Your favourite side quest? The one where you find Sten’s sword.
64: Your favourite DLC quest? Does Awakening count? If not, I guess Leliana’s Song (mostly because that’s like the only other DLC I have for Origins)
65: Have you installed any mods? None. I only have the games for xbox360 and PS4.
66: Did your Warden make use of Morrigan’s offer right before the battle against the Archdemon/the Blight? No.
67: If your Warden could go back in time to change one thing, what would they change? Sophia would have slain the dragon instead of Tara. Would it have been a better outcome? No one really knows. Gillan would have stayed with Alistair no matter what scandal would have become of it.
68: Can your Warden sing and/or dance? While she’s not as talented as Leliana, Sophia can sing. Tara can dance, but she’d never dance in front of any of her companions. Gillan can carry a tune, but not very well.
69: Do you have any headcanons about your Warden that are not/go against canon? Sophia is left-handed. I already kinda shared the one about Tara having a miscarriage. I also headcanon that Gillan becomes a Grey Warden researcher working in a library in Weisaupt.
70: On a scale from 1-10, with 10 being the highest score possible, how much of a Dragon Age fan are you? For sure an 11.

34. WOULD YOU RATHER SWIM IN THE LAKE OR THE OCEAN?
Lakes are usually a bit warmer.
35. WHAT’S YOUR TYPE?
Type of what?
36. ANY FETISHES?
-turns bright red up to her ears- You can’t be serious
37. SEME OR UKE? TOP OR BOTTOM? DOMINANT OR SUBMISSIVE?
Top or... Oh -still blushing- Ask Zev - wait! Don’t ask him. Maker’s a**. I’m... -smirk settles over face- flexible. Next.
38. CAMPING OR INDOORS?
I’m camping all the time whether I like it or not. Beds are nice though, and a roof. Yeah, indoors.
39. ARE YOU WANTING THE QUIZ TO END?
That’s it? You didn’t even ask me anything about, you know, slaying the f***ing archdemon! Mhm, getting to know the person behind the Hero, right, got it. -muttering- I killed more than one dragon too, you know... but sure.

Anime NYC 2019, Day One
A very busy start to Anime NYC this year. First of all, the line management seemed to be much better this year, though I do wish they’d let people into panel rooms before the actual start of the panel. The first panel I attended was the Shonen Jump panel, with the creators of Dr. Stone as guests. Since I can’t make tomorrow’s much larger Dr. Stone panel, I thought this would be a good choice.
They started off with some giveaways, notably to those with good costumes. We then got some Shonen Jump announcements. Most of the new titles had already been announced at NYCC, but they did have some new things to promote. Naruto is 20 this year, and Hisashi Sasaki talks about how exciting they thought the original proposal was, and that green-lighting it was a no-brainer.
Jujutsu Kaisen is out soon, and there were early copies of the manga at the exhibit hall. They also announced that the suddenly super duper popular Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba will be getting a speeedup to catch up with Japan faster – monthly releases starting in the spring. They’re also adding chapters to the “Shonen Jump Vault” for members.
Speaking of that vault, there was a passel of digital-only license announcements, all rattled off at the speed of sound. Robot x Laserbeam, Red Sprite, Love Rush!, Hi-Fi Cluster, Yui Kamui Lets Loose (from the Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan creator), The Last Saiyuki, Ne0;lation, Hell Warden Higuma, and Stealth Symphony (from the Baccano! writer). Most of these are 2-3 volume series from the last four years or so of Jump, and they would not otherwise get releases here. It’s nice to see them.
Also mentioned, and previously revealed at NYCC, were the new Bleach, One Piece and Naruto light novels.
After that we got Riichiro Inagaki and Boichi, the creators of Dr. Stone, as well as their editor Honda-san. Riichiro seemed very extroverted, and tried out some English on us. Boichi was more soft-spoken and quiet. Most of he questions came from the Viz team, rather than the audience, which I felt worked very well.
When the editor wanted to team up Inagaki with an artist (he had previously written Eyeshield 21 as well), Boichi naturally came to mind. Inagaki starts with the storyboards, which he calls scribbles but Boichi says are quite detailed. (There was a lot of “you’re the best – no, you are” during the panel, which was very fun.) Both also insisted they had the easiest job.
They were both very interested in science as kids, with Boichi saying he did a high school physics competition. He noted Arthur C. Clarke as an influence. They also discussed favorite scientists, including (inevitably) Einstein, but also Newton, Dawkins, Hawking, Carl Sagan (singled out by Boichi for making science “warm”), as well as the Japanese scientist who discovered Gibberellin, the seedless grape chemical (who is also the grandfather of Inagaki’s wife!).
Honda was asked what the Japanese editor does, and explained it was a lot of support and logistics – tries to make things possible for the creators. They were asked, given the location of the con, if Senku and company would make it to New York, and it was pointed out they would need a very good reason. Pizza? Could be a good reason.
Boichi was also asked about his very detailed art, and discussed how backgrounds and real-life detailed things take a lot of time due to the research, while characters took him less time. Boichi then stunned the room by stating that it took him one to one and a half hours to finish a page. For those playing along at home, that’s VERY fast. Even with three assistants, all apparently excellent artists.
Inagaki was asked how this differs from Eyeshield 21’s writing, and he said that, being a sports manga, he was far more beholden to rules and regulations with Eyeshield – here he can go wild a lot more. The Dr. Stone characters don’t have special powers like a lot of Jump characters, so he has to rely on science – it needs to strike a balanced tone between scientifically valid and fun. (When asked if Eyeshield 21 and Dr. Stone were in the same universe, the answer was a big NO.)
Boichi was asked about Dr. Stone’s memorable “gag faces”. Again, Boichi states they all are drawn up in the storyboards, and he just touches them up – while Inagaki insists his art is horrible compared to Boichi’s. Favorite character to draw? Kohaku, not just in terms of gag faces but all faces. He jokingly says “I don’t care about Senku.”
Asked whether anime will be invented by Senku, “not with the level of tech they currently have” seems to be the answer. Back to Honda, who notes how much fun editing is, mostly as he gets to read everything first. Indeed, with the finished chapter, he reads it before Inagaki! They then talked about the process for the new spinoff, which Boichi is both writing and drawing. Boichi also talked about using the old French-Canadian film Quest for Fire as a reference for the prehistoric landscapes.
Both creators seemed happy to be there, and were very receptive to the American fans.
The next panel was Denpa, who had as special guest TAa, the artist behind Today’s Menu with the Emiya Family. But first we had panel announcements, which included some stuff they’d announced at the previous Anime NYC – this year has been a “learning experience” for Ed and Jacob, but the schedule seems to be firming up now. They did have a copy of the Gambling Apocalypse Kaiji omnibus, which looks highly impressive.
Much discussion of titles out already or out in the next few months followed, including “Fate/Stay for Dinner” and Heavenly Delusion, which had an animated promo. The Girl with the Fierce Eyes also appeals to me, and it will be interesting to look at Shino Can’t Say Her Name and see if it can avoid getting as dark as Flowers of Evil or Happiness.
After mentioning they were close to launching a new website, we did get some new licenses. Baby Bar’s Bakery (a tentative title) is from Shogakukan, and is about a baby bear that also happens to be a master baker. It’s sweet and cuddly, and really big in Japan, collaborating with sweet shops and stores.
Fate/Go Chaldea Scrapbook is another Fate license, a one-volume manga from Kadokawa. It seems to be amusing takes of the FGO franchise – I spotted Mysterious Heroine X among the heroines in the art.
The big license, at least in my opinion, was L’il Leo. This Moto Hagio title from Flower Comics is about a kitten who grows up with a child and then decides that it too can go to school, get a job etc. It’s one volume, and apparently plays to Hagio’s strengths at bending the concept of what is human.
Lastly, we got The Men Who Created Gundam a two-volume series being released as one omnibus here. Part biography, part comedy, this series from Hideki Owada will tell the story of Gundam as it’s never been told before.
After this we had a few minutes to meet TAa, who will also have a livedraw session tomorrow. She talked about how happy she was to walk around New York and admire the buildings, and how stunned she was at the huge poster for her work in the exhibit hall. When asked if American Fate fans were different from Japanese ones, she notes that “all Fate fans are lively”.
After walking about the Exhibit Hall a bit, my final panel for the evening was “?! vs !? – The Great Debate”. Here Zack Davisson and Erica Friedman debated each other on important issues such as Honorifics, romanization, translation notes, localization, and regional accents. The panel was quite fun, mostly as Zack and Erica were mock-attacking each other all the time.
The audience also seemed to be having fun, though when scanlation came up it got a bit grumpy. Needless to say, both Zack and Erica are very pro-official release and anti-scanlation, and almost all the audience quesitons at the end were about that, with most of them being variations on “yes, but this is an exception, so I have to keep reading scanlations”. It did not go over well. Despite that, it was a highly enjoyable panel. Oh yes, and ?! and !? are meant to convey two completely different things. Apparently. Also, when Zack argued that shounen is pronounced “ooo”, when it should be ‘oh’, my first thought was of Seanan McGuire, and I wondered what Seanan Jump would be like.
This was a busy day, but tomorrow is even busier. Hopefully I will be able to give you a lot of news – the lines may be murder.

A-Radio on Anti-Fenix from CZ, updates on #PrisonStrike & #CharlotteUprising + music
This week we'll be rebroadcasting a recent update from A-Radio Berlin on the repression called Operation Fenix in Czech Republic against anarchists there.  Following that, we'll hear some music from Wildspeaker, Cara Neir and Allochiria. First, text from the intro to the A-Radio Portion:     "In the context of the International Week of Solidarity with Anarchist Prisoners (23.-30th of August 2016), we had the opportunity of talking to a comrade from Anarchist Black Cross (ABC) in Czech Republic. The interview gives a short summary of the repression that started in 2015 and explains the singular cases and their current development, but deals also with the problems the movement had in the beginning to show solidarity. Last but not least, you get very good advice on the topic of solidarity and what to do yourselves. Since the interview, another comrade is in prison. Lukáš Borl, who had been living underground, has been arrested by the police on September 4." More info on the case at https://antifenix.noblogs.org/ Announcements Strike Updates This was a statement originally posted to itsgoingdown.org, which we have shortened for broadcasting. It pertains to updates on the September 9th prison strike, with some thoughts about how to move forward from here. For more such thoughts, you can check out the most recent IGD cast which includes interviews with IWOC organizers and resisting prisoners in Merced, CA. One thing is not in question: September 9th is now officially the largest prison work strike ever to take place within the United States. This strike against prison slavery that began on September 9th, the 45th anniversary of the Attica prison uprising has now entered it’s third week. According to organizers with Support Prisoner Resistance:     "As of 9/21 we have tracked 46 prisons and jails that experienced some kind of disruption between September 8 and 21st. This total includes both lockdowns reported by officials (some of whom deny that the lockdown was protest related) and reports of protests from prisoners and supporters (some of which did not lead to lockdowns or full strikes).    Of these, 31 facilities experienced a lock-down, suspension or full strike for at least 24 hours. Those 31 facilities house approximately 57,000 people. That is a guess at the minimum number of prisoners affected by the nationally coordinated strike.     There is likely much more going on behind the prison gates that we do not yet know about. We receive new information on a daily basis. In some places the strike lasted a day or a weekend, but in some, it seems to be going strong 12 days in." The strike has also grown out of the original expectations of many organizers. For instance, the strike has spread into both men and women’s prisons, into county jails, and has lead to not only work strikes, but hunger strikes, organized marches and protests inside facilities, expanded communication of prisoners to the outside, and full fledged uprisings. Despite a media blackout that is fueled by the advertising of corporations that make billions from prison slavery while the mainstream press drones on about politicians which vow to only expand it – the strike is only continuing and bringing more people into our networks. On the outside, thousands of people took to the streets. In Durham, NC and Brooklyn, NY, freeways were blocked. In Oakland, corporations profiting from prison labor were attacked. In Portland, streets and stores profiting from prison labor were occupied and shut down. In Austin, people shut down a facility showcasing products made by prisoners, and demonstrations, marches, and rallies were organized throughout the South. Across the US, noise demonstrations outside of prisons were organized, marches were held, and graffiti, banners, and posters were placed around the walls, freeways, and towns and cities of the US. Across the world, people also took action in solidarity with the prison strike. From Serbia to Sweden, Greece to Australia, Mexico to Spain, people released statements of solidarity, held demonstrations outside of prisons, and took action against corporations that profit from prison slavery. Moving Forward: In order to proceed, people need to develop a strategy around supporting the strike. This means figuring out if and how you can support a facility near you taking action, how you can link up and build connections with prisoners, how you could build up your organization or crew to carry out this activity, and also how you could carry out actions which push forward the strike. 1.) Support the Strikers:     Holding a demonstration outside of the facility.     Holding a demonstration outside of a corporation connected to prison labor in solidarity with the strike (especially if that is what the prisoners are working to create).     Hold a call-in campaign to the prison to demand that the prison meet the prisoners demands and end repressive measures against them.     Hold a letter writing night to make contact with the prisoners. Contact IWOC for more information if you have no established contacts.     Hold a fundraiser for established groups such as the Free Ohio Movement or the Free Alabama Movement. Remember prisoners are the front lines of this struggle. We must support them and their activity as well! 2.) Build your Squad:     Raising money so you can continue or begin to engage in prison support work.     Host a letter writing night to better connect with prisoners already engaged in action.     Host a call-in event with a prisoner who can discuss the conditions that exist where they are striking and how people on the outside can support them. Contact IWOC for more details.     Host a speaker, Skype presenter, or open discussion on the strike to move people from passive support to active participation. Plug people into the organizing and get them involved.     Organize a BBQ or social event where people discuss the strike, update people on what is happening, and read off actions and communiques. 3) Keep it Lit:     Organize a noise demonstration outside a facility taking action or one closest to you.     Organize and take action at a corporation profiting from prison slavery. Get creative!     Drop a banner in solidarity with the prison strike.     Organize a night of wheat-pasting flyers. Get people together and go out on the town and put up posters and flyers supporting the strike. Write graffiti and drop banners. Already, our comrades across the world are standing with us in solidarity. In a statement released by the ABC Solidarity Cell in Greece, they have called for international supporters to also take action in support of the ongoing strike on October 1st. The September 9th strike has been inspiring, but to stop now and simply step back and wait for the next eruption would be to loose out on bringing new people into our movement. To also stop taking action now when prisoners across the US are still on strike, still on hunger strike, and still risking their lives would be to betray everything that they have worked for. Now is the time to build. Now is the time to grow. But it is definitely not the time to stop. Repression at WCW Women's prison in Gig Harbor, WA To support prisoner resistance, from an anonymous prison staff in the state of Washington:      “I would like you and supporters to know that there was a symbolic protest at Washington Correctional Center for Women in Gig Harbor on September 9. Three women refused to go to work in the prison library. The emergency response team was dispatched and the women were taken to Segregation. At their hearing last week, they were given 20 days in seg, and are facing reclassification and probably the loss of their jobs. In my opinion, this was a peaceful, non-violent expression of their opinions meant to draw attention to the issue of prison labor, and the response was much more disruptive than the event itself. The library has been closed since September 9. According to DOC, this was the only action in the entire state of Washington.” Support for Amir Davis, Kinetic's Son In March of this year, the son of Kinetik was accused of stabbing Warden Davenport at Holman prison in Alabama. He was then shipped to Donaldson. He has since been assaulted, harassed, and tortured in Solitary Confinement. If you support FAM and the work we do then let Kinetik’s Sun know his sacrifices for change were not in vain. Those willing, drop him a postcard and those able, put a small donation on his books via the ADOC website. Amir “Jaja” Davis #268646 G-4 WE Donaldson CF 1000 Warrior Lane Bessemer, AL 35023 In Revolutionary Solidarity, Kinetik Justice To see a list of more people who have been explicitely targeted by officials in response to the Prison Strike, you can visit https://itsgoingdown.org Seeking #CharlotteUprising interviews As most of you are probably aware, following the police murder of Keith Lamont Scott in Charlotte NC (who was killed while sitting in his car reading and waiting for his kid to get dropped off from school), there have been riots in that town which have lasted days. The mainstream media coverage of these events has been predictably terrible, following all the racist tropes we have come to expect from the likes of CNN and FOX. With an aim to combat these narratives, we at The Final Straw would like to put out a call for submissions or interviews that people would like to see broadcast on this show. Any interviews would be done from an explicitely anarchist perspective. For listeners looking for a good writeup, check out:

Uncommon OC Questions
I finally finished this, and holy crap it’s 12 pages in my Word doc. This turned out to be a great character exercise to flesh out my characters Inan Lavellan, Abigail Hawke, and Liara Tabris. I even added a few questions that occurred to me while writing. I mostly did this for myself, but if you’re interested, you can find all questions under the cut. Original meme can be found here.
1. What’s the maximum amount of time your character can sit still with nothing to do?
Inan – She can sit still forever. She finds it very peaceful, especially after she becomes Inquisitor. She just cherishes those rare moments where she can take a breather. Bet her she couldn't sit still for days, and she will take you up on the challenge.
Abigail – She's a mover. She likes to get up and go. The only time she really sits still is when reading a book or getting a drink or just laying in bed with Fenris.
Liara – She really likes the sound of being able to sit still and do nothing. But an idle elf was always sure to draw suspicion from the humans in Denerim, and she's never allowed herself to make that mistake. Even after becoming a Warden, it's hard for her to shake the habit.
2. How easy is it for your character to laugh?
Inan – Very easy. Humor is like a balm to her.
Abigail – there are days when laughter seems hard, but with her friends around it's very hard not to.
Liara – when she's comfortable and with the people she cares about, laughter comes very easily.
3. How do they put themselves to bed at night (reading, singing, thinking?)
Inan – just goes to bed, plops under those covers and that's the end of that.
Abigail – has trouble sleeping without someone with her (either Dog or Fenris).
Liara – she likes to stay up chatting with someone before she goes to sleep. If no one is available, she'll write in her diary. Both are ways for her to wind down.
4. How easy is it to earn their trust?
Inan – She's pretty willing to trust.
Abigail – She needs to get to know someone before she's able to fully trust them.
Liara – She's always hesitant around humans because of her negative experiences with them. But she finds as long as they don't prove to be an ass with their first impression, they're generally okay. Other than that trusting comes easily.
5. How easy is it to earn their mistrust?
Inan – It's hard. She's generally pretty forgiving.
Abigail – One mistake and that's all it takes.
Liara – She understands the world is complicated and not everything's black and white. She can be understanding if not fully forgiving.
6. Do they consider laws flexible, or immovable?
Inan – flexible
Abigail – flexible
Liara – flexible
7. What triggers nostalgia for them, most often? Do they enjoy that feeling?
Inan – The smell of lavender and finding halla really bring her back to her clan. For the most part, it's a comfort, but sometimes it's hard. She misses her family.
Abigail – Memories of Lothering are hard. They bring up everything that happened after, losing her father, her brother, and her mother. She doesn't like to think about it and prefers to keep herself focused on the present.
Liara – Talking with Alistair, Wynne, and Leliana reminds her of her friends and family back home. It's a good feeling, makes her feel like she keeps her family with her.
8. What were they told to stop/start doing most often as a child?
Inan – She'd just wonder off sometimes because she felt like it. She likes being in the woods.
Abigail – She picked on Carver a lot when she was little. She liked reminding him she was oldest, especially as he liked to pretend he was.
Liara – She really liked to practice the knife skills her mother taught her and was told to stop many times.
9. Do they swear? Do they remember their first swear word?
They all swear occasionally, Hawke perhaps a little more than the others. As for first words:
Inan - “Shit? Maybe?”
Abigail - “Fuck.” It wasn't it, but she's going to tell people it was.
Liara - “Does 'damn' count? Because it was most likely that.”
10. What lie do they most frequently remember telling? Does it haunt them?
Inan – The first year she was transferred to Clan Lavellan, she told people stories about her parents. It bothers her that she can't remember if those stories were lies or not. Mostly, she doesn’t think about because she has other family, but when her birth parents are brought up, it does bother her a little.
Abigail – There was something she said to Carver after their father died. She was trying to step into her father's shoes, be the head of the family, and Carver was trying to do the same and they butted heads. She doesn't remember her exact wording, but it was something about him being too selfish to be man of the house. It wasn't true. She was just frustrated, and upset, and angry. But she thinks Carver took it to heart, and she never got to apologize for it.
Liara – Lied many, many times about practicing with her mother's knives. She doesn't regret those as it meant she got to continue practicing, but looking back there were some risks it was foolish of her to take and she could have gotten a lot of people in trouble.
11. How do they cope with confusion (seek clarification, pretend they understand, etc)?
Inan – she worries about keeping up appearances as the Inquisitor, so she will smile and nod and then later ask one of her companions, especially with instances where they're in Val Royuex and she doesn't understand what those people want.
Abigail – she will straight up tell people she doesn't understand or that they are not speaking clearly
Liara – she completely shuts down, especially around humans. She doesn't want to appear as the “dumb elf,” so she nods and then gets the heck out of there as quickly as possible. She doesn't even think to ask her friends for clarification, she just wants out of the situation.
12. How do they deal with an itch found in a place they can’t quite reach?
Inan – She has to deal with it immediately in whatever way she can. If that means using her staff like a scratching post, she'll do it.
Abigail – grits her teeth and ignores it
Liara – asks someone she's traveling with to scratch it
13. What color do they think they look best in? Do they actually look best in that color? (changed to) What colors do they like to dress in?
Inan – likes to dress in earth tones.
Abigail – likes red or bold colors.
Liara – likes blue or soft colors.
14. What animal do they fear most?
Inan – Fade spiders
Abigail – “Do undead count?”
Liara – Blighted animals. At least Darkspawn look like their own species. It’s easy to forget they were once people before. But blighted animals remind her they used to be something else. She doesn't like encountering them.
15. How do they speak? Is what they say usually thought of on the spot, or do they rehearse it in their mind first?
Inan – Will definitely rehearse with Josephine if she's meeting someone important for the Inquisition.
Abigail – just says whatever comes to mind. Life's too damn short to do otherwise.
Liara – She'll often rehearse when she's nervous about an important meeting or discussing uncomfortable topics, but she gets so nervous she usually forgets what she rehearsed anyway.
16. What makes their stomach turn?
Inan – Being with her people again and encountering their stories and traditions. There is so much she's learned that the Dalish don't know, and she can't just come out and tell them about Mythal or The Dread Wolf or the vallaslin. She's certain they wouldn't believe her, that they'll think being with the humans has changed her against them, especially since she had her own vallaslin removed. She loves encountering her people, but if myths and traditions come up in regards to stuff she knows and can't say, she will legitimately get sick to her stomach and have to excuse herself.
Abigail – necromancy
Liara – Thinking about the alienage where she grew up. She will always feel like she abandoned her people, that she didn't do enough to help them. Knowing the purge happened because of her actions, that Tevinter came and took people away, that friends and family died from sickness… she will always feel that was her fault. It’s difficult for her to go back there, and she mostly avoids it.
17. Are they easily embarrassed?
Inan – no
Abigail – no
Liara – yes
18. What embarrasses them?
Abigail – hearing about stupid stuff she did while drunk.
Liara – anytime she thinks she may have made a mistake or done something wrong.
19. What is their favorite number?
pass
20. If they were asked to explain the difference between romantic and platonic or familial love, how would they do so?
Inan – romantic love is when you want to give someone every piece of you and receive every piece of them, platonic love is when you trust someone to always be there for you and you for them, familial is when you care for and respect someone enough to associate them with familial roles.
Abigail – romantic love is when you care for someone so much you want to know how well your bodies fit together, platonic love is when you care for someone a lot but don't want to see them naked, and familial love is when you may not like the person but care for them anyway.
Liara – romantic love is when you want to spend everyday of the rest of your life with someone, platonic is when you want to spend a lot of your time with someone, familial is when you love the people you were born to.
21. Why do they get up in the morning?
Inan – because someone's gotta save the damn world, and shit it's her.
Abigail – isn't sure some days and just rolls over and pulls the covers over her head.
Liara - Leliana
22. How does jealousy manifest itself in them (they become possessive, they become aloof, etc)?
Abigail – seeing other women flirting with Fenris often has her either telling them off or stealing him away.
23. How does envy manifest itself in them (they take what they want, they become resentful, etc)?
Inan – seeing happy couples or Dalish clans makes her wistful and sad.
Abigail – seeing older adults happy with their parents or siblings makes her a sad/angry ball of frustration and she has to leave the area.
Liara – She envies people with expensive things, can't stop admiring them, and then she feels guilty about wanting those things.
24. Is sex something that they’re comfortable speaking about? To whom?
Inan – she will freely discuss it with whomever if the topic comes up in conversation.
Abigail -  she'll talk about it with whoever, sometimes when no one asks.
Liara – she's comfortable talking about it with Leliana, but that's it.
25. What are their thoughts on marriage?
Inan - “Would love to get married someday, but the man I love right now is trying to destroy the world, so...”
Abigail – “Would love to, but living on the run kinda puts a damper on things like that.”
Liara – “Would love to, but I don't know how many years I have, and with Leliana's role with the Chantry… I don't want to do anything that might reflect badly on her.”
26. What is their preferred mode of transportation?
Inan - walking
Abigail – Anything but a boat. Maker, please.
Liara – whatever is going to carry her home fastest.
27. What causes them to feel dread?
Inan – makes some internal joke about The Dread Wolf. Laughs to herself, then bursts into tears.
Abigail – undead, boats, and uncle Gamlen
Liara – darkspawn and demons
28. Would they prefer a lie over an unpleasant truth?
Inan – “Always tell me the truth no matter how terrible. Always.”
Abigail – “I prefer the truth but sometimes… never tell me the odds. Just lie to me.”
Liara – “I'd rather my friends and family be honest.”
29. Do they usually live up to their own ideals?
Inan – “I did let Celene die so I could Briala in charge. That was… well…”
Abigail – “You know… I think I did okay.”
Liara – “I did let Morrigan talk me into a ritual of questionable circumstances…”
30. Who do they most regret meeting?
Inan – No one.
Abigail – “Well Bartrand and his expedition was a huge mistake. But where would I be if that hadn't happened? And Quentin – well, I had to find him to kill him, so… If I had never met Anders… I don't know… pick your poison, I guess.”
Liara – “Sometimes I wonder what my life would be like if Vaughan hadn't shown up at our wedding. But then I never would have met Leliana, and that was the best thing that ever happened to me, so...”
31. Who are they the most glad to have met?
Inan - Solas
Abigail - Fenris
Liara - Leliana
32. Do they have a go-to story in conversation? Or a joke?
Inan – Throws in a story about some Dalish tradition that still holds meaning for her or someplace she's traveled.
Abigail – She's listened to some of the stories Varric tells about her. She usually uses one of those if she needs an ice breaker.
Liara - “A human walks to a tavern, and there's an elf there. And she says, 'I don't…' Well, I don't know how the rest of it goes. Oghren was too drunk to tell me, but I keep hoping I'll tell it and someone will know the rest.”
33. Could they be considered lazy?
Inan – *glares*
Abigail – “Say that a little closer so I can punch you in the face.”
Liara – “I killed the archdemon. What more do you want from me?”
34. How hard is it for them to shake a sense of guilt?
Inan – she's usually able to shake it off, doesn't stop it from coming around again though.
Abigail – orders herself a dink or two, maybe three
Liara – usually needs Leliana to talk her out of it.
35. What do they feel guilty about and/or biggest regret?
Inan – not being able to return to her clan as the person she once was.
Abigail – not being able to save her mother
Liara – not being able to do more for her alienage
36. How do they treat the things their friends come to them excited about? Are they supportive?
They are all usually very supportive, but they all have that one friend...
Inan – She's apprehensive whenever Sera comes to her excited about something but is usually supportive.
Abigail – She will never trust anything Anders comes to her for ever again. She’s always uncertain whenever Isabela comes to her.
Liara – Ogrhen always concerns her, but she tries to support him.
37. Do they actively seek romance, or do they wait for it to fall into their lap?
Inan – Mix of both. She makes her feelings known upfront, then allows the other person time and space to respond.
Abigail – She is pretty obvious in her advances and is not afraid to make them multiple times.
Liara – Literally had to wait for Leliana to confess her feelings before she so much as hinted about hers because she didn't think finding romance for herself was possible.
38. Do they have a system for remembering names, long lists of numbers, things that need to go in a certain order (like anagrams, putting things to melodies, etc)?
Inan – puts it to a Dalish song
Abigail – she asks Fenris. He's better at that sort of stuff.
Liara – writes it down and tries not to lose the paper.
39. What memory do they revisit the most often?
Inan – She likes to think of the early Inquisition pre dragon attack. Things were simpler back then.
Abigail – A lot of memories are painful for her. She doesn't like to dwell. If she does think of the past, she thinks of time spent with Fenris or Bethany since they're still alive.
Liara – She likes to pull out her memories of the alienage. Not that it was always a happy place, but it was good enough to her and there were people who she cared about. Thinking back on it makes her feel like she's honoring the memory of what it once was and the people who were lost.
40. How easy is it for them to ignore flaws in other people?
Inan – as easy as it is for her to forgive them.
Abigail – Depends on how much she likes the person.
Liara – usually makes a point specifically of ignoring other people's flaws.
41. How sensitive are they to their own flaws?
Inan – sometimes when she's stressed, she gets snappy. She normally doesn't realize it until she offends someone, at which point she apologizes and goes find something to calm herself down.
Abigail – *flips two fingers*
Liara – Over sensitive. Second guesses herself a lot. Leliana has helped with that, though.
42. How do they feel about children?
Inan – she loves children, and would love to have some someday or at least have some she's in charge of caring for.
Abigail – Part of her would love to have children. The other is terrified of having something else to lose.
Liara – Even if she could find a cure for the blight, she isn’t sure she wants them.
43. How badly do they want to reach their end goal?
Inan – “Pretty damn fucking badly! What kind of question is that?!”
Abigail – “I'd just like to not have to deal with everyone's shit anymore and not have to worry about losing the people I care about. But how likely does that sound?” *Smiles through all of it*
Liara – “I want something I might not ever have, so I try not to think about it. Does that change how badly I want it?”
44. If someone asked them to explain their sexuality, how would they do so?
Inan - “I like men.”
Abigail - “Hmm. It would be easier if you suggest things, and then I'll tell you yes, no, or maybe.”
Liara - “I like women, and sometimes I like sex?” *shrugs*
45. What are their thoughts on religion? (I added this one)
Inan – After Trespasser, she doesn't even know anymore. She's given up on the elven gods entirely and has replaced some of her oaths with Andraste-isms, such as “Maker!” instead of “Creators!” but she's not sure she believes in anything right now.
Abigail – She thinks she believes in the Maker or tries to. She doesn't believe in the Chantry's interpretation of the Maker. It's never sat right to her that the Chantry believed her sister had to be locked away. She will go to service sometimes though with Fenris if he asks.
Liara – she believes in Leliana and by extension supports her beliefs.
46. What are their thoughts on alcohol? What kind of drink do they like? Do they drink with friends or alone? What kind of drunk are they? (I added this one too)
Inan – Before the Inquisition, she only drank Dalish wines, which are floral based and consumed during celebrations. While with the Inquisition, she mostly drinks with her companions but would sometimes get a glass by herself just to relax. She still likes floral wines, but will try whatever Dorian recommends for her. She's developed a liking for a few signature Teventer wines.
Abigail – She goes lighter when she's out with friends as she's looking to have a good time and wants to remember it and not make a fool of herself. Alone though, she drinks whatever is strong enough to have an effect, usually because she's upset about something. She prefers hard liquors or ales.
She and Fenris will have casual drinks together, and sometimes they will get drunk with each other for the fun of it. They have discovered they cannot drink together when they are both upset. That ends very, very badly. So, they've made a pact not to do that. If one of them is drinking because they're upset, the other has to stay sober and make sure they don't do something stupid.
Liara – She sips whatever Leliana or another friend orders, then makes a note of the things she likes. Usually sweet things. She only drinks if she has someone to do with it. She doesn't really care for the effect, so she'll drink what she likes the taste of and stop when she starts feeling floaty.
47. Any scars or tattoos? (added)
Inan – Has a scar over her right eyebrow. It's not a very glorious tale. She was exploring the woods one day, tripped, and smacked her head on a rock hard enough to split the skin open.
Abigail – Has taken up getting tattoos for her family members. (I haven't decided what all of them are) She has something for her father, mother, Carver, and Bethany. She got something for Fenris too. She's debated about getting one for Gamlen but isn't sure what she'd choose for him or even if she wants to make that commitment. But she does throw the thought around.
Liara – Has various scars all over her hands and a few on her arms from dropping her knives repeatedly. Leliana likes to trace them with her fingertips.
