✿ he’ll throw you a surprise party and everything. He just wants you to have a good time

✿ first Kuroo will take you out to go get breakfast and you guys talk about what you have to do for that day

✿ meanwhile your friends and his friends from nekoma and karasuno are at your house decorating and getting everything set up

✿ once you and Kuroo get done with breakfast he takes you shopping so you can get some things that you want he’s paying ofc

✿ if you try to tell him that you don’t want anything or that you’ll pay for yourself he will not stand for it. He will literally force his card into the employee’s hands

✿ he’ll go with you to get your hair and nails done for your birthday so you can look all nice and pretty pls let him pick out a nail color he just wants to be helpful 😭

✿ when you’re done yaku texts him that everything is ready and to bring you home. When you get there your friends all jump out and scream happy birthday

✿ both of you stay up for hours and when it’s 12 kenma pauses his game, turns to you while having a small smile on his face, and says “happy birthday, [name]” with the softest voice ever. Depending on how brave he’s feeling he just might give you a quick kiss on the lips

✿ if there’s something that you specifically want to do that day kenma is all for it. Even if it’s something physically demanding

Dating a professional volleyball player came with its ups and downs.

Have you ever felt like all your efforts are going all around, but not to the point where you want them to be? That was your relationship with Bokuto in summary.

Bokuto Kotaro, one of the top 5 aces in Japan, was insanely famous for his athletic abilities and good looks. He was nothing more than an average person with a hectic schedule when it came to relationships.

Things went smoothly until the initial phase of the relationship, and it was a mutual decision to take things to the next level. And that came with a ring on your finger. A few months in, you felt like being a side character in his story.

If life is a book, you believed every character had their importance. But in Bokuto's book, it was mainly his team, volleyball, and his work life. You could feel slowly that you are just being sided every then and now, like today.

You married him on one fine evening of June 29th. It was the happiest memory you will ever have. His golden eyes always tell affirmative words when you looked at him, and they showed you a hundred reasons to sign that document.

Today was supposed to be the day when he comes home early. Then he would take a nice refreshing bath after the workout he did earlier. Then have a great dinner prepared by you, sipping wine and commenting about how great the last few years were. How lucky he is to be here where he is, along with you. And you would kiss him, pull him in for a slow dance while his arms will go around your waist, pulling you close to his chest. "YN, I'm not in the mood for some random conversation that doesn't hols any value" He walks past you, to his bedroom.

Bokuto is now piqued. "What do you mean?"

You slowly walk towards the sofa. Each step you took, broke your heart into tiny pieces and you felt the pain as you weeped. "I'm done, Bokuto Kotarou. I don't think I can do this anymore."

Bokuto stayed glued to his steps. If he could turn back time to the moment when everything started to fall out from his hands, he wish he could hold onto that one hand that was waiting for him to be held. The one that used to love him.

"I'm sorry, YN." Bokuto tells. You know this too is from the pile of apologies you've received from before. No remorse or pain.

Do u think Enji and Rei will divorce? (I know it's stigmatized or something in Japan) Despite everything I really don't think they will tho, idk if that makes me crazy or what.

Honestly I don't think so.

As usual this is my opinion and I don't know how things will go in the end but, from how I see things BNHA is meant to be a story with a happy ending and divorce in Japan wouldn't definitely be considered like a happy ending for the Todofam.

Probably in Japan even Enji's death would feel happier than his divorce... and, before someone will ask, I don't think Enji's death would be considered a happy ending either so it's unlikely it'll happen.

The most Enji and Rei might do, and I still consider unlikely they will do it, might be take a break from each other in which Enji will try to regain the trust of his family.

I sincerely doubt Horikoshi will go for the 'hey, divorce is a possible and sometimes good solution' approach.

The end goal of the hellish Todoroki family was likely always to prove they could rebuild itself if they were to accept instead than reject all its member.

Enji is likely meant to do what Kotarou couldn't, what Himiko's parents weren't interested in doing, make up with Touya (and the rest of his family which he has also abused... I single out Touya specifically because he's the hardest to make up with as he's filled with negative feelings at the moment... no one else in the family is set on murder Enji and die, after all) and create a happy family by understanding his mistakes and fixing them so as to give the hopeful message that there are parents out there that might have messed up a lot, that might have done terrible things but that will one day realize their mistakes and make up with you...

...which in real life is sadly extremely unlikely, but overall BNHA to me feels more like a fairytale where a young girl's earnest words can persuade a crowd to welcome a tired boy among them even if it can be dangerous and they're all scared, not a story about the likely most realistic scenario... so as to give a message of hope.

Undoubtedly in the west the story would work even if Enji and Rei were to accept they didn't love each other and the best they could do for each other is go separate ways but still be there for their kids... but I don't think Japan is ready for this sort of message.

What's more Horikoshi often uses the microcosm of the Todoroki family to represent the macrocosm of society. Enji and Rei deciding their differences can't be reconciled would end up on representing how society, which in BNHA is currently split, can't reconcile.

I think it would get in the way of the message of peace and happiness Horikoshi is trying to pass. So yeah, I don't think there's a single chance for the Todoroki to divorce.

As usual, I might be wrong. I'm not Horikoshi after all, I don't really know how the story is going to end. We can only wait and see.

Obligatory Danzou’s interlude post because it’s one of my favorite parts of fgo, they really made an interlude just for me, with a large focus on Limbo’s obsession with her (this is an abridged version of the full 70+ message discord thread I made lol)

The fic I always talk about actually has a section that takes place directly before this interlude, showing one of her daydreams which I really like…

Anyway, da Vinci’s comments about Danzou are interesting in that even a genius like her doesn’t exactly know how she works, so I’d imagine Limbo is the second most knowledgable after Kashin Koji themself and maybe the first Fumma too

This interlude also emphasizes that this Danzou knows nothing of Shimousa cause she’s PHH Danzou, so once again the fact that she has a fear of the dark sun stands out to me as Limbo hurting her to such a degree that this Servant version of her fears it despite not remembering him. And I wonder if the virus itself played a role too.

It’s not Limbo proper or even a shikigami but the virus still acts just like him, and it just makes me wish for a scene in Heian-kyo where he tortures Danzou, we could still save her cause as he says, he’s the type to give someone a long agonizing death not kill right away… and especially with his fixation. Also his threat to guda here resembles the materials book line a lot as he’s threatening to keep them beteeen life and death (though I imagine the overt rape threat was too much for the game’s rating)

I really want to see moonflower animated, or at least an illustration cause I love how it sounds… and she talks about it being a cruel technique she dislikes… love how both times she uses it it’s on Limbo

This part with Holmes having known the intention was to restore Danzou’s memory apparently gets taken out of context because even the preceding line here is him saying that it does not tell us why he did it. I find it insulting to her character to try and claim Limbo legitimately wanted to help when right after this he explains his motives and they’re the height of cruelty. With Shimousa backing him up that he means his words, not that he’s one to lie about such things. For the hundredth time, he let her get attached to her companions, forced her body to attempt to kill them, blew her up, and all while mocking her for thinking she had free will and telling her how he screwed with her mind. Also he didn’t even restore her full memory, just let her choose the most precious one to serve his own purpose of learning what it is she cares about most so he can take it from her.

Usually motherly characters don’t interest me much but there’s something about Danzou and Kotarou that’s so good…. A doll that thinks she’s just a machine to pass on the Fuuma arts and hates herself to the point she hides away from the sun, and the boy who treated her as a human and decided she was his mom now, and she was the one person he opened up to… also he too has his whole oni blood thing and in a my room line he’ll talk about how he’s a wretch… so them finding each other is so sweet… it’s good!!!

Best part is the final part though, and it demonstrates a lot of why I’m so obsessed with LimDan. The fact that he goes to so much effort to hunt down another version of the doll he found in Shimousa, give her a virus to restore a single memory so he knows how best to devastate her, then tell her to her face his plans to do so… that’s the sort of fixation I love!! And that he doesn’t seem to hate her necessarily, but he certainly doesn’t love her either, it’s just an obsessive desire to hurt cause he enjoys it, which ultimately stems from his hatred and envy of Seimei, who he can’t surpass, so he goes off mocking and hurting everyone else. And someone like her who reminds him of Seimei is especially pleasurable to hurt so he develops this sort of fixation on her and goes way out of his way to hurt her as much as possible! What the fuck I love it so much. Also I love how he switches entirely to calling her creepy pet names post-Shimousa.

This is a fantastic setup for Heian-kyo too, which makes it all the more frustrating that it completely fumbled everything it was given… the beginning of Heian-kyo has Sion stating that the only two Servants that will have no trouble rayshifting are Danzou and Kotarou. He’s following through on the threats he made here in her interlude… only for them to give some flimsy excuse for Kotarou not to make it and not even have Danzou talk to him much at all… Heian-kyo beginning is also fantastic and promises so much only for it to drop it all as you get to the middle and end… her killing Limbo is exactly how it should be but where was all their conversation leading up to it? It should have been a Danzou-centric chapter and I’ll stand by this, she’s the one most hurt by him.

I think Tenko loved going on walks with Mon-chan. He'd go with his mother or occasionally his grandparents. He loved meeting other dogs too, and when those dogs left to continue their walk, Tenko would run back to Mon and pat her head as if to say "don't worry, you're the only dog for me, I'll always come back to you". Not that Mon-chan would ever worry about it, but the boy felt it necessary to reassure her

Hana absolutely tried to braid Mon's fur

Mon wasn't just the furry shoulder to cry on for Tenko, but for Hana too. Remember when Kotarou was talking about Tenko being 5 years old and having no quirk, and she was in the same room as that talk happened?

She was petting Mon as she ate, crouched over somewhat nervously. I think Hana would seek out Mon as a way to relieve stress too, like when she's nervous or upset over something, she'd go find Mon-chan and then just pet her for a while, let her worries wash away and gradually calm down

Corgi's are apparently good watchdogs and guard dogs because of their loyalty, so I think that speaks to just how much Kotarou fucked up when he slapped Tenko that Mon-chan actually turned on him and started barking. (not attacking but, still). I think that could also speak to how Kotarou may not have paid much attention to Mon-chan in the family. Either Mon was trained to guard/protect the children or Koutarou never really paid attention to his own dog

In that way, it's Mon's loyalty to Tenko vs Mon's loyalty to Kotarou, and Tenko's wins by a long shot

Happy Halloween Ziracona! Ive been Havin fate related Halloween thoughts and I think Cu and emiya would enjoy the holiday, like emiya can make homemade candy like no ones buisness and Cu would like eating said candy also watching spooky movies as he's no scaredy cat. Oh god yeah. Em has nostalgia in canon for many things that remind him of his own time and life, and he’s full hundo a Halloween boy. Loves getting to make the kids happy, show off some cooking skills. Also doesn’t scare, so he enjoys some spooky movies and such. Catch him and Cú chatting idly about the tactical approaches to fighting Pennywise, while Ritsuka, Amadeus, Mash, Kotarou, and Abby are clinging to each other screaming at giant projector clown. Cú would totally enjoy spooky season and the trappings. Would have fun dressing up and going all out.

Hmmm as for David and Billy, I think David would really play up the “Oh wow he’s a bit angry isn’t he? Well that wasn’t very nice.” kind of Dad reaction while watching like, Nightmare on Elm Street w the kids, both because he loves jokes and thinks it’s funny, and because the kids having to explain the plot (which he totally gets on his own and fakes not getting) helps them distance themselves from the movies and not get so scared, and have fun. He would totally go all out slutty for Halloween. David’s Costume year one was like

A good time all around. Billy loves sweets, and I think honestly it would be a little surprising and put him on edge the very first time, because he’s got such survival instincts drilled in, but after the initial ‘wtf’ shock at a Chaldea Halloween, he’d take to it like a fish to water, and enjoy costumes and group photos, candy, and just how communal and fun it is. He acts peppy, but deep down Billy is a lonely young man who was persecuted his whole, very short life because of his ethnicity, betrayed and shot in the back by a friend because he hesitated to shoot in case he killed an innocent, who has been very alone and hunted, and died young. I think any time he’s given the chance to be wanted and loved and safe, in a community that cared about him, especially if he can do something carefree and normal unlike his human life, it really means a lot.

My overall thoughts on Slow Damage

SPOILERS FOR ALL ROUTES AHEAD YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED they're mostly vague but still read at your own risk

Having finished the game after bingeing it for like 2 weeks straight I'm left feeling a little conflicted.

When looking at the story as a whole it's a solid 9/10. If it wasn't a hardcore BL game I'd be recommending it to all of my friends because woaaa it's soooooo goood!!

However, there are so many little things with the game that bug me.

The sequential route setup

The way the routes are set up kind of made me feel like everything before Fujieda's route was just there to extend the length of the game. Don't get me wrong though! Taku, Rei, and Madarame's stories were enough to keep me coming back for more in the moment but once you get the full story through Fujieda everything else feels like filler. It 100% feels like they wrote his route first then were all like "ah, we need more boys for Towa to fuck otherwise the fans will be disappointed" I get that it's common practice in VNs to have the 'canon' pairing so to speak but it never felt quite so egregious in dmmd and it just left me feeling 'meh' to see it happen here. It doesn't help that while I was playing through Rei and Taku's routes I noticed that they didn't really feel 'complete'. I had chalked it up to covid-era development woes but then realized "oh... THIS is the story" after tens of hours when I finally made it to the final chapter of the game.

If I had to compare it to something that a lot of people would be familiar with then Rei/Taku's routes would be the 2003 anime version of fullmetal alchemist, Fujieda's would be brotherhood, and Madarame's route would land somewhere in the middle of the two in terms of how 'complete' they all feel.

And now to actually complement the format

Despite the shortcomings described above, the way the routes are set does help the story tell itself in small pieces sometimes. I am actually surprised by how much narrative consistency there is between routes. After you play through Rei/Taku's stories you get to sit there finger-wagging them every time they suspiciously disappear because you know EXACTLY what they're up to. And the package that shows up in Madarame's route being significant in Fujieda's route was really good and sheds some light on Sakaki's behaviour in Madarame's route too. They were good little flavour touches that add depth to the game so I can't entirely fault the N+C team for telling the story in the order that they did.

I'm going to complain about the semes now

Honestly, I found them all a little boring? Perhaps that's a result of having such a strong and interesting MC but Towa shines far brighter than any of the guys he can end up with on the main routes (ie not Kotarou/Mayu). Rei was the only one with a remotely interesting character design at first glance and was the only one that didn't immediately strike me with a 'bara daddy but softer' vibe. Of course, that kinda got ruined by the fact that his route is all about him becoming more 'manly' (whatever that means) so I don't even know what to think about him anymore to be honest. Taku's design is stereotypical for a slightly rough around the edges doctor type character so I wasn't impressed there. Furthermore, he was ruined for me because of how much he knows and how much he keeps from Towa. He's the closest thing Towa has to a trustworthy parental figure and he's not very trustworthy at all. Madarame.... well... If I had played this game like 7+ years ago I probably would have loved him but as it stands his kidnapping, grooming, and Stockholm syndrome-ing of Towa just turned my stomach the entire time I was playing his route. Hits a little too close to home for me to like his route even the slightest although the scene where Towa is disguised as one of Toono's bodyguards and walks up to him all secret agent style to tell Toono that Madarame wants to speak with him was 9999/10 It's not a real critique, I know, but I spent so much mental energy just trying to get through it that I don't really have much to say about him other than he's a god damn asshole. Fujieda is a weird one. I think his character design is hella boring just like the rest but he grew on me during his route. His personality feels a little like a more uptight Taku but he's also more trustworthy by the end of his route than I felt Taku was at the end of his. He's def my favourite of the four, even if I wish he was just a liiiiiittle more interesting i think the scars were probably trying to achieve this but by this point in the game I'm so used to everyone being fucked up that it's not very impactful to me.

So basically what I'm trying to say is... why are all the really interesting characters (in terms of both design and personality) just 'side' characters rather than having full routes for themselves? Igarashi, Kotarou, and Mayu deserved better imho and Eiji might be ace but I wish he had some sort of small side-route or something... And don't even get me STARTED on Ikuina I have so many feelings about this strawberry flower boy. I guess this is what fanfiction is for I suppose.

Conclusion

Slow Damage has an absolutely amazing story with all the dark, gritty, debasement you'd expect of an N+C game and the MC is by far one of the most likeable of all their games imho. Sadly, if you're like me you're going to have to be in it for the long haul to get to a conclusion that makes the story feel complete and once you do it might make the other routes feel a little disappointing. Still, I would recommend this game to anyone that likes the kind of dark stuff N+C puts in their games because it was 100% worth the coin I spent on it despite my misgivings.

MATSUKAWA ISSEI he knows or atleast already has an idea of what the trend is before you asked him to do it because makki loves sending his whole tiktok fyp to the man. when you first came to him about the idea of doing the trend, he was going to agree of course, but not without a little teasing of how you just wanted to drool over his muscles or "you're that down bad, huh?" his words, not mine. after recording, he sent the video to his gc with the other seijoh third years, almost immediately gaining oikawa and makki's exaggerated replies.

MIYA OSAMU he saw a video of a trend the past week on suna's phone when he was scrolling through tiktok during a break between practice. he didn't give it a second thought until you showed him a video of the trend, urging him to do it. he really didn't see the point of it, but after more convincing and the promise of cooking dinner together later tonight, he caved in to your request.

USHIJIMA WAKATOSHI it was normal for you to be running toward him with your phone in hand, he already knew you were going to show him another one of those "tiktok trends" you're always so excited about. though this one was a bit different to him. most of the past trends you showed him were dances, or typical hand gestures. while you were showing him the video on your phone, he just thought it was a way to show off the arm muscles someone worked hard for. he personally didn't feel the need to show off his muscles, but since you looked set on making him do the trend, he agreed to do so.

KUROO TETSURO the second you saw a video of this trend pass by your fyp, you immediately thought of your man. you didn't know how but his arms have been looking do?? good?? lately?? you honestly don't know how he does it. getting him to hop on the trend was fairly easy. he always agreed to (mostly) whatever you wanted to do, after all. but that didn't stop the never ending flirting coming out of his mouth. "you like my arms THAT bad, huh princess" "you know, there are other ways I can show you my bicep improvement" cue his stupidly teasing smirk.

IWAIZUMI HAJIME his first thought was that oikawa put you up to making him do the trend. but not wanting the poor captain to be the receiving end of these accusations, you dismissed the thought right away. reasoning how you only thought how good he's look doing it. he was flattered, sure, but he still didn't see the point of the whole thing. but he'd do anything for you, so sooner or later he was on board. the video got to oikawa though, so just imagine the amount of teasing and volleyballs thrown the day his best friend saw the video.

TERUSHIMA YUUJI you weren't even the one who proposed doing the trend with him. he was the one who came up to you with a ribbon and his phone in hand, going on and on about how ripping the ribbon would be so easy. you were reluctant on helping him film the video because if he was able to do it, you knew how much it would inflate his ego. but nevertheless, you tied the ribbon around his upper bicep as he handed his phone over to you to start recording.

MIYA ATSUMU both of you came to each other at the same time with the proposal to do the trend, actually. atsumu with his plan to show off to his brother later, and you with the thought of how good your boyfriend would look, and overall the tradition of the both of you doing as much tiktok trends as possible. as long as it's appropriate, of course. he was ecstatic to find out you wanted him to do the trend as much as he did.

BOKUTO KOTAROU the moment you finished explaining the trend to him and telling him you wanted him to do it, man was he excited. he was practically bouncing up and down at the thought of you thinking about him when you saw the video. and the fact that you went out of your way to personally tell him you wanted him to do it??? how could he say no?

ARAN OJIRO he wouldn't be too updated on what's popular or trending on social media, and this is one of the trends he wasn't aware about. the both of you were sitting together when the video passed by your for you page. the idea of persuading your boyfriend to do the same thing was what almost immediately came to mind. you tapped him on the shoulder, showed him the video, then explained how it worked. he didn't see what was so important about ripping a ribbon into two, but still, he reluctantly agreed.

KOZUME KENMA he was playing a game when you told him about wanting to put clips in his hair. while you were talking, he had one side of his headphones, slightly put back so he can hear you. he threw glances your way while you were explaining the whole thing, and to your surprise, nodded when you were finished. "go ahead." was all he said. he plugged out his headphones and took them off so they weren't in the way. it was pretty convenient he was already sitting on the floor, so without any more time wasted, you got to work.

OIKAWA TORU he passed by you in the kitchen while you were on your phone. he was planning on watching another one of a rival team's past matches in the living room. before he left the kitchen, you called him and asked if you could put clips in his hair. he raised an eyebrow and you knew he was wondering why. he would still say yes without you explaining of course, but he knew there would be an actual reason with that excited look on your face. you told him about the trend and his face lit up. he knew he was a pretty boy but for you to confirm it? heck yeah he was going to let you put clips in his hair.

BOKUTO KOTAROU whenever he and akaashi were together, he was used to the latter being called the pretty or beautiful one. so imagine his joy when you went up to him showing him the video and calling him your beautiful boy. the both of you wasted no time getting your hair clips from your pouch and having him lay his head down on your lap. he was grinning the whole time all the while holding the hair clips for you.

TENDOU SATORI the moment you suggested putting hair clips in his hair, he raised an eyebrow at you. reasoning with him that it's a tiktok trend and that it's harmless, he reluctantly said yes. but when he found out what the trend was called, he sort of (?) short circuited and it may sound a bit over a top but he was flabbergasted. the rest of that day was spent with him sat on the floor in front of you whose on the couch, him quietly reading a manga while you decorated his hair with clips.

SAKUSA KIYOOMI he wasn't immediately fond of the idea of having small pieces of plastic in his hair, but since it was you; sure, it still took some (lots) of convincing and the promise that the clips are well sanitized, but eventually you got him on board. he didn't know what the purpose of all this is, but as long as it made you happy, he's all in. midway through it, you noticed the tip of his ears turning red. you asked him about it, but all he gave you was a shrug as a response. you calling him a beautiful boy stuck to him the whole time, but he won't tell you that.

Sweat poured down Ritsuka's bare torso and stoic face as he went through the motions of combat alone. Countless hours of combat drills under Leonidas had made it so he required no real opponent to practice with, though it certainly helped. In his mind’s eye, he saw the thrust of a spear, the arc of an axe and a sharp kick aimed at the back of his knee. Reflexively, his right shoulder jerked back and the arm attached to it curled tight, capturing the imaginary thrust even as his left palm snaked out to connect with the axeman’s temple, throwing the blow off. At the same time, his right leg bounced up, avoiding the crippling kick and stomping down hard on the assailant’s leg. This dance of illusion continued behind Ritsuka's closed eyes as his body moved to disarm, destroy and disable the perceived attacks.

He clicked his tongue in mild dissatisfaction as his breathing grew rougher and the sweat soaked into his loose black pants. His body was reaching it’s limit. As he wound down the exercises, he finished the fake bout with a stomp of his right foot followed by a discharge of magical energy. Breathing in for a moment, he collected himself before bowing to the training room. Opening his placid blue eyes, he confirmed that he was alone before rolling his shoulders and running a hand through his sweat-slicked hair, wiping it on his pants afterwards. A white cloth towel and a basin of water sat upon a wooden bench, and he made liberal use of them to cleanse himself.

His mind wandered as satisfaction crept up the spine of his soul. This world, like every other, operated on rules of power. The power to defend, to take, to protect, to plunder. The power to save something. He felt powerless, though he had certainly saved many lives in his journeys. The root of the issue was far simpler. He himself was not classically “strong” and thus relied on the strength of others. This made him what he saw as a liability.

This not entirely true. In the modern day, Ritsuka might actually be one of the most capable mage combatants, disregarding his special circumstances. He received tutelage in the arts of war from Leonidas II and Scáthach, studied magecraft with Medea and Circe, and sharpened his mind with the likes of Sherlock Holmes and James Moriarty. No flesh and blood human reasonably expect to best him without thorough preparation, no matter their weaponry or Mystic Codes. He took his middling magical energy and his average talent and honed them with the one thing available - effort. After all, even the sharpest blade starts out as an unassuming lump of iron. Only through determination, persistence and strife could that iron be formed into something beautiful.

The real issue was the fact that his opponents were never flesh and blood. They wore a simulacra of flesh and carried the idea of blood, but they were far removed from baseline humans. They were Heroic Spirits, the figures of ages past that made their mark on humanity. That mark…that mark was usually a bloodstain. If Ritsuka was, say, an antimaterial sniper rifle, than even the lowest Heroic Spirit was a nuclear bomb. A force of destruction you simply cannot hope to stop. Something to weather out.

So he relied on his bond, his ability as the Master of Chaldea. He cultivated those bonds with the Spirits of ages long dead, and he opened his heart to friend and foe alike. This was a type of strength, and one far more meaningful and potent than mere martial prowess.

However.

That sort of strength didn’t always allow him to save those in front of him.

Too many times to count, innocents died in front of him. Heads shorn from bodies, limbs ripped off, hearts pulled out. Sometimes at the hands of monsters. Sometimes at the hands of monsters calling themselves men. Sometimes at the hands of those all-too-human Heroic Spirits. Cold logic told him that intervention would have meant death, and that not even a true hero could save everyone. Cold logic was cruel like that. By following his instinct and that path of logic, Ritsuka saved himself time and time again, and in doing so, saved humanity from a ghastly Incineration with that human strength of his.

But who would save those people? If he was stronger, could they have been saved? If he could have saved them, could he grow stronger through the experience? Could that strength lend itself to more people saved?

Could he have saved the people of Uruk? Could he have saved Ushiwakamaru? Could he have saved that Leonidas? Could he have saved Siduri?

Could he have saved anyone at all with his own two hands?

There was only one way to find out.

“Kotarou.”

A redheaded ninja slipped out from between the shadows, giving a small nod and a smile.

“Yes, my Master?”

“Wanna spar with me?”

“I’m not sure how useful you’ll find fighting with me, as we shinobi tend to stray from fair fights, but it would be my honor!”

“Even better! Just uh, let me borrow a sword or something. Lady Kiyohime was nice enough to let me train here, so I’m sure one of her retainers will let me nab a bokuto.”

“No need, Master! Catch!”

Reflexes acted faster than thought, and Ritsuka’s right hand rose to catch an unexpected weapon - a quarterstaff. He had spent the most amount of time training with this due to his choice in teachers, and it felt at home in his hands, but he had to wonder exactly why Kotarou had it with him. Personally, he’d always felt an attraction to things like Musashi’s dual blade style, but he couldn’t deny that this was what he was best with.

Perhaps Kotarou had noticed his inner turmoil.

His doubts, his fears, his struggles.

His desire to grow.

His need to save someone, anyone.

“You’re a mage, Master! Mages use staves. And…I think you look coolest with a staff.”

Kotarou truly was the ideal shinobi.

The two shared a heartfelt smile as Ritsuka spun the oaken staff, twirling it around his wrist before gripping the midsection and flicking his wrist fast enough to crack the air. Master and Servant bowed to each other. A moment later, Kotarou disappeared from sight, a set of lethal strikes aimed at Ritsuka’s spleen and neck.

Wooden daggers cut thin air as oak met spiritual flesh, a sweeping motion knocking both blows away. Kotarou’s eyes went wide beneath his shaggy red hair, and he smiled wide, laughing in mirth before redoubling his efforts.

The two men danced into the night, playfully attempting to kill each something in each other. Kotarou aimed to kill his Master’s doubts and Ritsuka aimed to kill the worry in Kotarou’s too-big heart. Bruises and scrapes accumulated, droplets blood and sweat soaking into the floor beneath them, but there was only love, camaraderie and loyalty in those blows.

Tomorrow may bring new joys and tragedies, but tonight?

Tonight belonged to a world of two.

>> bokuto makes it a routine to facetime you when he practices, more often than not wasting time while showing off his ‘skills’ with a disappointed sakusa supervising. “look baby ! i’m the ace even on this team ! are you proud of me ?” he bounces up to you, grabbing the phone to reveal a strange angle yet his smile remained insistent. “ of course bo, you’re the best ace.” you dramatically swooned at him, earning an equally if not more dramatic response. his face suddenly disappearing from the cameras view. “kou baby ? where’d you go ?” you ponder, face contorting with concern. “mmmm.” the sound apparently coming from below your line of sight. hinata picking up the phone in the aces stead. “sorry, bokuto is kinda drowning with embarrassment. his face is the color of tendou’s hair.” chuckles erupted around the gym, assuming to be the others. “nooooo~~don’t tell her that.” hinata flipped the camera to where it showed a very melty bokuto sprawled on the floor. “okay okay ill spare you, anything you want to add ?” hinata ushered to you. “kou, before i leave i wanna let you know i’m very proud of you.” — “gah ! not fair !”
