Like I don’t want to sound like a Little Hater™️ ESPECIALLY about something that is definitely useful and beneficial to people especially other queer people. But if I pick up a book and they have a scene where two characters basically start dictionary definitioning identity labels at each other in casual conversation I am returning the book immediately. My biggest pet peeve that is not actually a problem it just gets on my nerves

I am once again losing my mind.
This time: I went to look up references of Varric, and just typed "Varric Tethras" into the search bar. I was going to just tab over immediately to the images section, eyes barely glancing over the obvious top-result fandom wiki, then (more entertainingly, but still expected) Wikipedia link-
but. but the next one.
Tumblr media
GOODREADS??
.... There's absolutely no tongue-in-cheek in the entry either.
(of course I immediately clicked on it who do you think I am)
There are 3 quotes from him relating to storytelling, both from 2 and Inquisition, as well as a book attribution:
Tumblr media
The Dragon Age Novel Edition of Hard in Hightown.
ATTRIBUTED TO VARRIC TETHRAS.
with Mary Kirby*~
Tumblr media
Absolutely unblinkingly written summary/bio.
I love this with my whole heart. Varric you beautiful bastard -- and DA writers/editors (Mary Kirby very much most importantly included) you even more beautiful, dorky, wonderful bastards.
---
*if you're not in the know, Mary Kirby is a cornerstone of the DA writing team, including being the one who was in charge of Varric (and Merrill!). To say she's his "trusted human confidante" is certainly putting it one (delightful) way.

i think my recent fic about torturing brad didn't really make enough of the gap between what was happening in the episode (ie brad being tortured) and what the characters thought was happening (Not Torture) and how that's the whole TVA thing in a nutshell really. but i accept that i to some extent (greater or lesser, not sure as it's not like me and the readers discussed the issue) failed and maybe i should try again at some later date. or not. i don't know really. the TVA torturing people is clearly (to me, anyway) a massive blindspot both in and out of that fictional reality, and so i want to point at it also i don't because people wouldn't like that. understandably.

Can somebody please explain to me what the appeal of vampires is.
#I'm genuinely curious#people seem to go absolutely feral over this concept and I want to KNOW I want to UNDERSTAND#and there are some really excellent vampire aus that I love and I want to love them MORE because I want to GET IT™#because all I see are like...societally conventionally attractive people with fangs. who maybe (depending on The Lore™)#can't go out in the sun. and that just...doesn't resonate with me?#like I understand metaphors for 'othering' and the concept of monstrosity but I feel like that gets a little lost if there isn't anything#actually UNPALATABLE about them. like if they just look like what we culturally have idealized in human appearance then how can#they serve as a metaphor for ostracization or being misunderstood?#is it primarily an aesthetic thing? is it a *danger is sexy* thing?#but ordinary humans can be plenty dangerous too (see: 90% of the female characters I'm obsessed with)#so is it in the sense of you can vicariously experience that danger and heightened emotion in a situation that's removed from reality#so it feels less overwhelming when you're watching/reading the piece of fiction???#like I have seen this used effectively as a metaphor for marginalization (undead murder farce) and an exploration of how society#defines a 'monster' (shiki) but that doesn't seem to be the way most people or works engage with this concept#is it just that people like when characters are covered in blood because I DO understand that one lmao#I just feel like vampires have been branded as a Key Aspect of Bisexual/Gay Culture and I feel like I am on a separate plane of existence#because It Is Not Clicking For Me#(tbh I feel like there are a lot of Quintessential Queer Experiences™ that don't apply to me but. that's a whole separate thing.)#ANYWAY would love to hear people's thoughts!#I am cooking up a Meta Post™ about fandom reaction to the concept of monstrosity and I want to gather as much information as possible

i can imagine you are quite busy and overall try to read everything more deeply, but still, it would be really really cool to dig your nails into umineko. reading umineko really highlighted orv's strong points, i can't wait to reread it. it's like two complementary pieces with them both deeply analysing the author and reader's relationship.
augh i read like 75% of umineko a couple of years ago and stopped for some reason! i think I was overwhelmed by the metaphysics of the story... but ive actually been considering giving it a reread! there are parts of it that have stuck with me a lot over the years and im a much more experienced reader now than i was then

I'm thinking back to how one of my past post was completely misunderstood. Good queer representation isn't by making every queer character wholesome or a blank slate. Rather, good queer representation is by making it broad (please watch verilybitchie video on good lgbt representation cause it discusses more on this). When most or all your characters who are queer are tragic or a villain that is an issue, but by creating more media with a variety of different aspects on the queer or trans experience that is where media representation for fictional characters become so important and beautiful. There doesn't seem to be enough healthy and complex queer ships or characters, because of there being less representation for there to be healthy good queer characters. Again, there should be a wide range of different types of characters, because placing this idea that queer representation has to be complexing, tragic, or overcoming to be good or entertaining is also weird to me? Why can't queer representation just exist, it doesn't have to accomplish anything, other than to express one's experiences like all other characters. To always see a villain or bad person represent a minority isn't good nor is to always see healthy and dull representations, that's why variety does matter in this case.

i miss my roleplaying days sometimes. what do you mean i never got to finish the world's funniest mollymauk ghost+modern au (it was a gen fic focused around molly and beau's friendship where molly got murdered in a deeply convoluted situation involving beau's family's wine business + a smuggling ring. naturally, because plot, his ghost--noted poltergeist--got Auto Assigned to haunt beau so she could help solve the mystery of his death and work out his unfinished business. neither of them were happy with this assignment. they made each others' lives and deaths hell. it was so goddamn funny.)

October this year has felt kind of vague and adrift for me, no real festive spirit to speak of--or at least nowhere near how last year felt, when it was Year of the Vampire and all.
BUT I am remedying that now with a combined pincer attack of 1) relistening to Night Vale from the beginning on my commute to work and 2) rereading Warm Bodies on my breaks/in my spare time. Things are getting increasingly spooky up in here
#consider this a heartfelt rec for both of the series mentioned#for anyone who might not know: Welcome to Night Vale is a fiction podcast in the form of a community radio show#the host of the show gives news and commentary on the happenings in a small desert town#... a small town that's regularly besieged by cosmic horrors and shadowy government agencies and various other monsters and phenomena#it's extremely chill and relaxing! which is funny to say because it sounds like a joke but it's actually true.#the residents of the town are used to all of this strangeness so it's described in the same tone as the results of the schoolboard election#seriously even ten years later this podcast has me giggling like a maniac every few minutes#it's very funny and heartfelt despite ostensibly being horror themed#and as for the other series--Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion is SUUUUCH an underrated book series#the tl;dr is it's a zombie-human love story#there was a movie based on the first book several years back and it was pretty good imo#it plays up the romcom aspect a lot. which is fair but not EXACTLY accurate to the book. as you might imagine lol#the actual book though??? god I'm only two chapters in on my re-read and I had underestimated how much I love the way this protag thinks#it is HEAVY on philosophical discussion and even digs into some societal/political issues later on#and the supernatural/sci-fi worldbuilding is so incredible that tbh I can barely take any other type of zombies seriously after reading thi#it's just. it's good. check it out if you're not afraid of a little gore in your star-crossed romance#(I'd say more but I don't want to spoil the end of the first book! it's a fairly predictable twist but it still feels so good)

Keep doing this thing where I'm like "I have to write about grounded realistic stories or else I'm weird and a freak and abnormal and I'm just gonna make people either uncomfortable or think I'm childish aka terrible" because my family and hometown were just really really weird about fantasy so I keep shooting myself in the foot when it comes to stories I actually want to write :(

i looove putting spark over songs about like heroes and saving the world (tom cardy's 'level clear', uncle outrage's 'saved the world' <- nice voice hc for him!. and 'my superhero movie'.) when he like. Did. Not : ) funney.
#sprksplrs#gaia talked about spark wanting to be desired yesterday and while i think he's too much of a Lone Wolf... for those kinds of wants to#even surface. at least in my interpretation of him. its hilarious to think abt him getting. just a tad insecure abt fark's status as#a real like. superhero basically. just for a second in the far back of his head. oh i want to be as cool as him. im not good enough#tho again in my characterization he only wants to do that to be able to love himself. i first got this thought when ruminating on#oh god. what kinda games he n fark like to play respectively? and said 'if he ever does pick up hardmode or a challenge level#he will only do that to one up himself and himself only.' he only proves stuff to himself. he only cares about himself.#and the things that do the most mental damage to him are all scenarios in which his self is attacked.#in which his agency is taken his independence. losing a job to someone something that copies him and does it better than him#something that even copies a really dear object to him thats been with him throughout the years - his jester hat#an attack on individuality. and then being merged into the sim. idk. the yaoi moments when he does work together w fark become even more#potent. this way? and. it contrasts really well with how selfless (at some point in his life very literally) fark is. and how confident in#his self. he turns out to be in the end. as micah said 'how he moves with so much more fluidity in his organic body#the body he created himself because he's no longer afraid of it being fake'. citing that as the bible but yea kinda.#i think spark grew up quite ostracized maybe even self-ostracized and really needs a distinction between himself and everyone else#to be better than everyone else. there is some personality disorder shit happening under that piss yellow scalp.#and he fucking loses it when the events around him hammer in that the facade he builds for mostly again himself is. yknow. untrue. fake.#idk thoughts. i love exploring the antisocial aspect in fictional personas with how shipshipship focused fandoms and 'analysis'#in them is it's not something i see all that much. seems like only people whove experienced it ever bring up that topic.#is it so uncomfortable for others? who knows. ramble over

Introduction of my blog
My main rule is when interacting with me: just be nice and if you harass people for the content they like?? Just fuck off, this page is safe for the freaks. (I mean look at the warning) As long you're nice and you let me be me, I won't give a fuck who you are. So yeah that's all :)
~ I go by the name; Sam
~ I'm a masc person and while I prefer male pronouns I don't really give a fuck, so you can call me anything.
~ I'm 18 and post/reblog 18+ content now and then, so if you're uncomfortable with 18+ content or are a minor please do not interact with those posts... Thank you <3 Uhhh so basically I'm being horny on main...
⚠️ WARNING: I play DoL (Degrees of Lewdity) and I post/reblog stuff about it but it's a very fucked up porn game, so I will post/reblog dark content on here. I will try to tag accordingly but yeah. In general there will be some reblogs of dark content, so if you don't like that, well this was a warning ⚠️

I am newly single and already have caught feelings for someone, debating if that’s a bit awful or not lmao
#To be fair I’ve known things with the then-boyf weren’t going well for a Very Long Time#We love each other so much but just aren’t compatible as a couple anymore#So I think I started grieving our relationship a long time ago#And dealt with the heartbreak a little at a time over a long period of time#Honestly the biggest things that made me want to keep trying were the family & beautiful future that we talked about having together-#And the fear of losing him as a friend because I have a hard time staying close with friends#But over time I’ve let go of the potential future we would’ve had. And now I can officially confirm that we’ll stay best friends#The last giant chunk of our relationship was already just a very strong platonic friendship#So all that’s changing is the label and any romantic expectations that weren’t matching up#Our needs and wants were too far apart for either of us to be happy or comfortable meeting in the middle#So yeah I knew the relationship was ending long before I accepted it#And in the last few weeks I recognized I was getting feelings for a very charming classmate in our costuming class#I just didn’t know if it was genuine feelings or me missing having romantic aspects in my relationship & projecting those feelings#But now I do think I’m into him#He’s just so darn charming#The thing that really pushed it was when another classmate was sad about the guy she was talking to ghosting her-#And we were all comforting her saying she deserved better & all that#And he had a response that was just so kindhearted and genuine#At the time it just felt on the same level of when I have a crush on a fictional character#Like “oh I just think they’re neat :)” and not meaning anything irl#I’m a cereal monogamist. I would never ever think about anything happening while in a relationship#But now I’m not in a relationship and that admiration for him are still there#And his smile can light a gosh darn room I swear#We smile at each other whenever we pass by & make eye contact n when he smiled and waved at me I thought “fuck I do like him huh”#So yeah that was today#But it feels way too soon after literally just getting out of a 3 year relationship#But I would love to platonically hang out with him and get to know each other#I feel like I’m supposed to be single for awhile#Even though I’ve mentally done all my mourning of that relationship#But it didn’t actually end until very recently
