Character Pen Pals!
I was looking through some writing exercise ideas for myself earlier and came across one that was essentially to write a letter to someone. Then I thought how cool it would be to write a letter from OC to OC. But then!
What if we wrote letters as our characters to each others' characters?! It doesn't have to be physical letters of course (unless you're okay with that, then feel free to privately message whoever your pen pal is the address/P.O. box you want. I personally love getting mail and making fancy letters)
You can send people your letters in their asks (if they're okay with it) and they can answer with their own letter. Reblog if you want to participate and add whichever of your character(s) you want to send/receive letters with, along with a little bit of info about them to start. Feel free to ask people for more info about their characters if you need it. I'm sure they'd love to share!

This is an unpolished and untested thought but I think at this point the only way I'd be interested in "portal fantasy as child abuse" fiction is if you had TWO former protagonists of different portal fantasies in conversation, and one of them is traumatized and the other experienced growth and empowerment and is literally fine.

It’s the end of senior year, and Fabian’s over it. His friends have been avoiding him, pretending like everything’s fine when clearly, something is not. All Fabian really wants to know is why — and if that takes him to the venue for Kristen’s bonfire party hours before it starts, then so be it. He’ll try to confront them so he can get some damn answers. — — — It’s the end of senior year, and Gorgug plans to confess to his best friend.
my gift for my beloved friend @wlwinry as part of @d20exchange!!! aka 24k words of thistlecaster AND six weeks of me lying everytime i spoke to mads about gift exchange. enjoy!

Character notes for that old 3rd life timey-wimey au that I dont have a name for based on that one post. A lot of queer themes. (Disclaimer: history is not my thing, and the point of the au is not to explore the realities of the lives of queer people in these eras. They inform the characters' internal struggles, but are not meant to be the focus of the story)
Grian: London, 1893; an architect that stays closed up in his studio working. He is gay, and considering the era he lives in, he is ashamed and afriad of anyone finding out. Reserved, snappy, and a bit of a bastard underneath. He just wants to be accepted, but never believes it can happen.
Scar: California, 1987; former action super star. He's struggling to find work because he is a vocal advocate for gay rights. Optimistic, stubborn, and unwilling to pretend to be something he is not. He leaps without looking and seizes the moment when it comes. He's an incurable romantic <3
Jimmy: England, 1940; soldier, just drafted to join the war effort. He's not a fighter and is afraid of war; he doesn't think he will make it back. Brave (or foolhearty, depending on who you ask), sensitive, and loyal. He is a young romantic who dreamed of a great love and a family, but he is resigned to never having it.
Scott: UK, 2012; vlogger. His brand is similar to irl, based on that on vlog video he did a while back; openly gay. Cynical, sarcastic, and always teasing and poking fun. He is slow to love but loves deeply.
Scar and Grians story is seperate to Jimmy and Scotts. Flower husbands' is a lot sweeter and softer, while Scarian's is a story of Grian finding self acceptance through his love for Scar. They both end, however, in tragedy. Such is the nature of the game.

At this point Wednesday and Thursday are the highlights of my week like I’m vibrating with excitement when I know Wednesday at like 7 something I’ll be sitting down to giggle at my favorite show like I- 🤧
I don’t always watch d20 seasons as they’re airing but for fantasy high, it gets so woven into my schedule when a new one drops 👏 like not to get super sentimental (I’m absolutely going to in a read more. Plus the season is ending soon and I’m emo about it but also just excited in general to get all the answers) but this season really means a lot to me. Absolutely none of them will see this (thank god) but the intrepid heroes & BLeeM mean so much to me. They made a show that is so funny and beautiful and kind and so stupid at its core and it just goes to show how lovely they are. The impact they’ve made on the actual play community is so huge. For me a lot of actual play was very intimidating to get into because of huge backlogs or the kinds of stories being told weren’t for me but goddamn, d20 just hits on so many levels. In part due to the storytelling and also just holy shit everyone at the table shows up and cares so much about who they’re playing and their place in the world and the story they’re helping be told. It’s just 🤧💖 I hope one day I’m half the dnd player that Brennan, Emily, Lou, Murph, Siobhan, Zac, and Ally are. They truly inspire me so much.

**TW For SA, trauma, mental health + personal shit etc under the cut**
I stopped watching d20 for a long while. Give or take a year or two? I know it was around the zoom season era. Me and A guy I was really close friends with bonded over dnd and d20 and it was one of the main things we had in common. The night he SA’d me we were watching FH S1 from the beginning. And I think that kinda.. like I didn’t watch d20 because it brought up a lot of thoughts of him and that night and just so much ptsd.
D20 was my favorite form of escapism during hard times and it really sucked to lose that for so long. When d20 Junior year was announced I decided it was time to get back into the show because I missed it and I loved it and I couldn’t let him make me so scared that I never went back to what gave me so much joy. I introduced the show to him in the first place, I could reclaim.
I watched freshman year after I dropped out of art school because my parents and I couldn’t afford another loan and I was really lost. It took my mind off a lot of it thankfully.
Sophomore year aired when I started going to community college. I had a night-time psych class that would end about half an hour before the streams would start so it gave me motivation to get through it because I had something to look forward to after. Now junior year is airing while I’m dealing with a lot of health stuff + depression + job stress (now that I write it all out, both college stresses passed and I did end up getting a decent-ish, albeit very shitty job in graphic design, so I know there’s light at the end of the tunnel so to speak, this’ll pass)
I don’t know if they’ll ever do a senior year/graduation season but if they do, I’ll be there still excited and brimming with joy and anticipation for more d20 Wednesdays to come. 💖

Head in hands as I plan to have us reuse most of the lore / worldbuilding we had done for our metafiction / supernatural work we most worked on over a few years as we're somewhat back to square one of creating a series via plot + character developing.

I just finished reading Fourth Wing after picking it up because of all the hype, and because I love dragons, and... I have to say it's the worst book I've read in quite a while lmao. the dragons were its only redeeming quality

i'm a little sorry for character assassinating amity so often in the princess AU bc i know a lot of people care Deeply about how kind and loving and good amity is.
it's just that . it's really really Really funny to make her worse.

Oc stuff I've been cooking in my head thenlast few days
I'm trying to move away from the standard fantasy race things and tldr I think elves might be from space?
Lemme elaborate a little. So my origional setting is kinda riffing on Disco Elysium with reality pockets separated by vast unexplored expanses of The Horrors, my current thing is travel between these is primarily over water through what are essentially submarines. But. I also kind of want the rival empire to my main one to be aeronautically focused, like okay yall nailed sea travel at this point so fuck you we got airships. But then I get to thinking. Why would going too far up be any different than going too far across-
....post canceled I just realised I think I accidentally recreated Githyanki

heyy everybody, so i don't write very often (like, ever) but i was very taken with an au idea and began something. Problem being that the characters centering in the story aren't ones I happen to know all that well. it just happened to make sense for them to be protagonists here
sooo despite having made an ao3 literally JUST for this one story, I wanted to double check with ppl more in tune with these particular characters before putting it there so i can be sure they're actually. yknow. in character. i'll be tagging all the ones in it or mentioned so far so that ppl more familiar with them will see this.
i have separate copies of it, so feel free to comment on it and mark it up as you like. the google doc link im putting should allow for that if i've done it right. fingers crossed ig!!

Fic, Faris-centered
A Thing Appointed to Desolation Summary: The ship has a sprite that few sailors will ever see, for seeing that sprite spells doom for the ship. Faris has the bad fortune of meeting him on the way to the Ship's Graveyard.
Words: 3033
Warning: British swearing and the dense nautical knowledge being thrown about that comes of the Age of Sail being my special interest when I was 8.
