finished a render and realized there's a tiny mistake. don't re-render the whole thing: a tutorial

realized a lot of people don't know that you can do this so here's a quick post on it!

so let's say i didn't notice the hair was clipping with the ear like this:

i render out the whole thing and it takes like 30 minutes. only after do i notice. save the messed up version! then do this:

fix whatever's clipping or messed up or you just want to change. so now let's only render what we fixed. use control + b to draw a square around the part you changed.

this will only render what's in that box. it only took a minute in cycles! (it's usually shorter than this, honestly. i was just doing some weird things in this render. also you couldn't even see his ear in the lighting lol)

save this piece, and then in photoshop, you can lay the fixed part over the clipping version, and there!!!

if for whatever reason you need to clear the mask, you can just hit control+alt+b.

(minor problem if you use ambient occlusion or glare compositing nodes, there will be a slight border on the edges, but you can just erase it! make sure to give yourself enough room on the edges!)

2022 yuletide rec time!!!

For yuletide this year my author did the SWEETEST thing and got their hands on a copy of the out of print children's book I've been wanting fic for for.....decades possibly, and I finally got my fic about Beth! now I just want more fic about Beth lol.

Anyway I have finished going through the entire yuletide archive, reading every single fic that caught my attention! AWW YEAH I continue to win at Completing Yuletide. As always I'm sure there are fics I might have loved that I accidentally missed, but I am proud of my accomplishments nonetheless. And now, before the anon period is over, my recs of the 10 fics I liked the best, in 10 different fandoms!

you could cut ties with all the lies (that you've been living in) Nirvana in Fire, Lin Chen/Xiao Jingyan

The one where Lin Chen goes to the capital under the name Mei Changsu to enact MCS's plans on his behalf, so tht MCS could rest and recuperate! Genius premise, enacted with perfection, and it's also 26k long and yet I spent basically the ENTIRE THING screaming silently to myself in my head because everything was so incredible and perfect and delightful. Holy shit.

my wife doesn't know I hench, the evil sex ray made my employees do it, and more Hench/Ask a Manager crossover, Alison Green

Once upon a time I spent a LOT of time following the Ask A Manager blog closely, and this fic is a PERFECT pastiche of the style, with spot-on advice, in a hypothetical post themed on questions from henches working for supervillains. Incredible!

The Soul Selects Her Own Society Jane Eyre, Jane & Helen

In which Helen's spirit continues to follow Jane and protect her, after Helen's death. And Bertha can see ghosts! I loved it.

A short look at Horation's pov. The prose and use of language and wit felt just right, and Horatio's adoration too!

It's the one that ships Gautier with Kirk, and like, does its VERY best with that premise. The sheer French Romanticism of it all! Gautier is so unphased by everything, and is just here to be delighted by it all! What a brilliant thing to exist in this world. No idea how this would read to someone who doesn't know about Gautier and French Romanticism, but one of my mutuals on tumblr loves Gautier so I am part of the correct audience :D

The Scarlet Cloak The Eagle of the Ninth, Cottia/Esca/Marcus

Post-canon, and ahhhhh and the complexities of the relationships between the three of them as they navigate making a household together despite the huge gaps in their understandings of each other is SO good!!!!

Heuristic Analysis The Murderbot Diaries, Three

It's about Three working hard to figure out how to make decisions as an independent person, and what it wants, and doing a great job of it! and I love the ending! What a good.

Addendum Homeward Bounders, Vanessa Macready & Joris & Helen Haras-Uquara (& Jamie by absence)

Three letters to Jamie left on various worlds by his friends for him to come across. Each letter has the PERFECT voice for the character in question, and each world is also a stealth crossover (I knew two of the three and they were amazing, but you don't need to know the crossovers to appreciate the fic!). And I love the implications towards trying to find a fixit for Jamie as well!

Time Enough Vorkosigan Saga (Ethan of Athos), Cee/Ethan

A lengthy and in-depth look at what it's like to live on Athos, and the depth of cultural knowledge you need to know when moving there from galactic space, as Cee and Ethan work out their relationship with each other. I loved the worldbuilding and I loved the growing trust and intimacy between the two of them and the very understandable issues that they need to learn to talk about!

The Rose Realizes she is an Instrument of War Arm Joe/Les Miserables, Cosette/Marius

An absolutely incredible mashup of the conceit of the fighting game Arm Joe with the story of Les Mis, it's perfectly integrated in a wonderfully Hugolian way, the worldbuilding is AMAZING and I love Cosette and her experiments with her power. A perfect fic????

(and two runners-up, because if the Lin Chen fic hadn't existed, there are TWO other NiF fics that could have made the cut for top 10: wish we could turn back time ft lin shu/mei changsu in a possibly-a-dream, possibly-time-travel scenario, and From Moth Back Into Caterpillar, ft mei changsu becoming an amnesiac lin shu for a day.)

Kit. I cannot tell you how much i love your work i just ahhhhh. All of it is just amazing and i reread your entire blog like the daily news you dont even know how much serotonin it brings me. Kuwtsk and t&t and the roadtrip au and pretty bird and liTERALLY ANYTHING YOU WRITE are just my absolute favourite star wars things and i need you to know how much i admire and love u for that!!! And the soulmate/daemon au? I would start sleeping 8 hours and drink two liters of water and brush my hair everyday just for a slice of your thoughts on it. Like, what is their first kiss like? but for sure i can give you thoughts on it!!! it's so soft, one of my absolute favorite prompt fills!!

so the fic ends with their first kiss, but it's definitely very soft and gentle at first but it doesn't stay that way for very long. i'm imagining that anakin in all his eagerness tries to climb onto Obi-Wan's lap, but he's also very inexperienced (he really did wait for Obi-Wan and didn't sleep with anyone else so this is his first kiss) so he ends up like accidentally kneeing obi-wan in the crotch instead of being all sexy and obi-wan pushes him off instinctively and he falls off the couch with a groan. obi-wan peers down to look at him and make sure he's ok but anakin is like 'force please just leave me here to die'

and obi-wan is like 'absolutely not, come on, let's try this again in the bedroom'

because both of the force animals have perked up to watch their human's plight and obi-wan and anakin both agree it's weird to do any kissing or sex stuff in front of them.

obi-wan gets so many cuddles from anakin now. they're constantly touching if they can get away with it, even worse than before. Odyna snaps at Anakin because he won't let her cuddle obi-wan anymore because he wants to be the one all pressed close with his soulmate.

seeing this, obi-wan laughs and tells anakin that there was a period of his life where he and his Force animal didn't get along at all. eventually with enough worried questions, the story comes out about what obi-wan had always thought about having a force animal that looks so prickly and defensive.

anakin tells him about how on tatooine avarie was the rarest most beautiful thing in the galaxy. everyone thought so. she looked like pure ice, one of the most coveted things on the entire planet. and anakin's blown away at the idea obi-wan ever thought that the representation of his soul was cold or unfriendly. because it's always been beautiful to anakin. <3<3<3

『Birthday♪～I wanna feel more of the sun’s warmth～』

The picture was taken this morning (*^^*) Today, we had a cloudless brilliant blue sky in Tokyo, the sunshine filtering through the trees was really beautiful.

Hello, this is Wakana (0￣▽￣0)／

The temperatures are low but when it is bright outside and the sunshine is illuminating everything, it somehow feels warmer, today was such a day.

Well, the other day we celebrated our 9th Anniversary as Kalafina. ♪ As the other two have mentioned already, we held our concerts at our usual venue, the O-EAST. It was a 2-day live restricted to club members only. It was truly passionate and intense.

During the first half of the setlist, we sang songs from our debut work “Kara no Kyoukai” in order of their release. Singing them like that brought back so many memories from that time, it was like watching a revolving shadow lantern projecting a story to the wall *laughs* Back in the day when we first started our live activities, there was no room to have fun. Seeing all of your smiling faces on these two days made me realise that it was precisely due to these hardships in the past that I am now able to enjoy myself during lives. (^-^)/

There’s something I was personally very impressed by during the first half of our concert...ahhhhh, I always feel this way and on these two days I once again felt the same way...forgive me for bothering you with this little story. Kalafina’s songs are made up of certain parts that consist of so called “coined words”, they will be sung alongside or in the background of the Japanese main part of the melody, we will layer our voices to sing these coined words, we use them so often that they have almost become indispensable. However, those coined words are not included in the lyrics of our CD booklet. A vocal score for the “Kara no Kyoukai” series was never released. And yet, there are so many people who can sing along perfectly to these coined words. “Ehhhhh!?? AMAZING!”, I thought (>_<) Truth is, while I was singing, I kept thinking, “WOW, this is so cool!!”(>_<) I guess it should be expected...It’s truly as one would expect. You guys are amazing! You all pay so much attention to every little detail of Kalafina’s songs. I feel so very loved! I am grateful! Truly, thank you! I was able to reflect upon those past nine years we have walked together; thanks to all the amazing songs we got to sing, thanks to all the amazing people we got to meet we are where we are now.

Really! Truly! THANK YOU so much!

It would make me very happy if this year I could once again fill your lives with overflowing music that will bring you the utmost happiness and make you smile!!!! +ﾟ(*´∀`*)｡+ﾟ☆･.★･.☆･.★

Anyways, this month- for reading- was KIND OF more successful than most other months? I read SEVEN books which wasn’t as high as I hoped, but oh well.

One of them was a DNF, but I’m still COUNTING IT, OKAY.

And………. this month for blogging was not the best. Whooooops I had SO MANY HIGH PLANS FOR THIS BLOG and then it went #lolnope.

I LOVED THIS BOOK SO MUCH. This was a re-read, by the way. BUT I COULDN’T HELP IT. [review]

Ahhhhh I totally forgot why I gave the first book three stars. This was so dark and twisty and the characters were so gray and I loved and hated all of them. (Which might seem like a bad thing. It isn’t.) [review]

This was a DNF, since I kept on losing interest in the story the more I tried to read it. It just didn’t really captivate my interest??? [review]

Nice Try, Jane Sinner by Lianne Oelke ★★★★★

Okay, but Jane Sinner was such a relatable character. She seemed “cold” and “uncaring” to everyone else but really, she had feelings. And she was hilarious to read. The format was also so unique! I loved it.  [review]

They Both Die At The End by Adam Silvera ★★★★★

This was really good. Can I just tear up over the ending. I mean, I expected more, I guess?? It wasn’t as captivating as I thought, but it was still super deep and the main characters were fun to read. [review]

Looking back on it ALL OF MY READS ARE FIVE STAR READS. Except for Freefall. But let’s ignore Freefall. EVERYTHING ELSE WAS FIVE STAR. I am happy with my non-pickiness for this month???

Anyways, my favorite book this month was probably THE HAZEL WOOD. It was so breathtaking and I read it in one sitting (even though I do that with like, every book haha.)

SISTER TRIP

Well, I also went on a trip to my older sister’s (who is ~10 years older than I am!) in the city. Not New York City. Jersey City!

I also bring you… pictures.

This is a picture of the harbor/bay/whatever it’s called. It was so fun walking there, and also these pictures aren’t the best quality I’M SORRY.

Also: we ate out on my birthday! We went to this super small authentic Mexican shop, and we got these beef quesadillas that were SO GOOD AH. Also their chips and salsa are SO GOOD that we ordered more. I took no pictures of that because… I WAS EATING IT, OK?

We also went to this expensive ice cream shop, and it was so cute! I mean, I’m probably never going to go there again since it was like, $5 for one of those small cups but STILL THE AESTHETICS.

(Also they had really unique flavors like Jackfruit and Sourdough which was super cool.)

My younger sister got Mint Choco Chip, my older sister got this Chocolate Mountain thing, my brother got blackberry, and I got lychee! I AM THE UNIQUE ONE HA. Lychee ice cream is seriously SO. GOOD.

My sister’s apartment was also honestly SO CUTE AND AESTHETIC. She had this GREAT view of the city (her floor is in the 20s). And it was so nice to stay there for those three days ahhhh. She had a bunch of succulents around her house WHICH WERE ALL DYING (howww?) but it was still super cute!

1. When and how did you get into j-rock?

jokesss it was animu as usual ahahahaa I was already listening to J-pop at the time like Arashi and Yuki Kajiura I also liked Perfume by that point too, around.. 2012..? somewhere around there ;w; I was 13 years old.

I actually can't remember who my first J-rock band I ever heard was ;;u ; I listened to a lot of anime intros and found a couple of artists from there....   the first J-rock song I ever heard was probably SID's Monochrome no Kissu huhuhu but I didn't actually listen to SID after that.....  ting is is that I was painfully weeby at the time, the typically cringey child that would more listen to ... random american pop songs that I found on amvs, and all the classics like cascada's everytime we touch and the 'numa numa song' ,,...... //////v/// and I listened to a LOT of Vocaloid, all of it, I was obcessed, it’s literally all I would listen to for a year or so ﾉω`*)ﾉ  I also found a finnish rock band called Indica through an amv and even bought one of their albums ;u; my music taste was a crazy mix of stuff I'd just found on Youtube really... I loved The Midnight Beast (reppin from uk) and I still do, Lemon Demon too.... and I downloaded official soundtracks from anime like Pandora Hearts and D.Gray Man and listened to those as well. I was also a big fan of Yugioh the abridged series and would listen to yugioh song parodies LittleKuriboh made ;; u ;

Only a small part of my music library was J-rock and J-pop at the time... but I think the first band that caught my attention was Buck-Tick, after I watched the anime xxxHolic somewhere in 2012. Then after watching Shiki a little later I recognised the same voice and looked kuchizuke up and was jammin, and for some reason I watched an interview with Aachan before getting distracted by that one video that everyone has seen of T.M singing dress with him, and listening to ABS instead because I knew them from the theme song to D.Gray man ///u// it was only until summer 2013 until I really found out who Buck-Tick actually was, I listened to as many singles as I could find and I fell in love with them in less than 24 hours hehe ´｡• ᵕ •｡` I actually didn't like rock music at all before then, b-t were the group that introduced me to being a rock music fan even though I still didn't like heavier sounds, like Gazette that my friend was into. Sometime later that year I listened to L'arc en Ciel for the first time too, I think I read about them in a magazine or something.. I can't remember //w// ((I bought the 'stay away' single at may mcm in 2014, my first J-rock cd :3c)) I still listened to a lot of J-pop during 2013 and Arashi had begun to dominate my life, so I didn't really get properly into J-rock and visual kei until early 2014 when I started listening to ancafe, because I'd heard of them from cosplayers on deviantart who had them in their ID section under music interests, and then subsequently finding out they were touring in europe :3c I was more partial to oshare and lighter pop-punk things around that time.. early days was LM.C and Alice Nine and Royz after that....

Kind of a long and patchy story (wow it’s really long why did I write so much I’m so sorry it’s so boring) but there isn't necessarily an exact moment I started listening to J-rock... only in the last year or so have I let Vkei fully consume my life so... back then it was only a side interest for me among all the other things ˊ꒳ˋ  from 2014 onwards I just found more and more bands as well as listening to a lot of johnny's and J-pop stuffs... >w> and the rest is historyyyy

2. List your current most favorite band(s).

bakuchikuuuuu forever and ever every moment of my waking life alwaysss till I dieeee //w/// and Dog in the PWO >:3 two very contrasting groups to say the leest but I have a wide breadth of faves hehe ;;w; I fell in love with Doggu super quickly and have been following them ever since, I've known them for a year now and they are 100% in my top 5 favourite bands ever ;u ; dems are my two main faves as it is right now but there are too many others to list that I have a lot of feelings for /;;w;//

Currently I also like listening to Hakujitsu no Yume... Pentagon are my children.... Piglow in Gloomy are really amazing also ;w;;

3. How many j-rock concerts have you been to? (If you haven’t been to any, which band would you like to see the most in the future?)

not many becos I am a baby and I have never travelled out of my home country to raibus ;;v; my first ever was Ancafe in 2014, when I was a weeby mess, and most recently Versailles in January 2017 :3c inbetween I’ve seen VAMPS (and alexandros) at a shared live @ ‘Japan Night’ which was a lil concert organised by HyperJapan, a convention here in uk ..can I count bands that I’ve seen at Hyper too..? ;;w; I’ll just count Vaniru because they were aight while Yuto and Leoniel lasted as a couple heheh >w>> and I also went to SuG’s raibu in 2015~

so that makes 6 i guess.. I am a bebe ;;

there are so so so many bands I wanna see live, and I would go to a couple more lives in London here and there but I always get attached to groups that are very Japan-based and that are very unlikely to make any overseas appearances ;v; and I don’t wanna spend a lot of monies on bands that I don’t know as well that occasionally visit //3///

4. Which j-rock band do you think is the most underrated?

Daizystripper o´ω｀o   They used to be a more popular with western peeps but I think a lot of people stopped listening to them a while ago an might not even realise that they're still active and tings ;; v; their debut with Victor might make it a little difficult for international fans though eheh but I wish they still had the support they seemed to have~ so many good jams ;  u ;

And everyone from Planet Child Music records needs more recognition and to be invited to more events ///u//

5. Which j-rock band do you think is the most overrated?

If I had to I'd say Vamps hhhhuu I thought that they were v good up until recently ;;w; I dunno I feel like the couple of newer songs have lost their power and originality... and no matter what I'll always think L'arc are infinitely better but some people think not //vv/// Vamps are always over here and in other countries too, whereas L'arc I feel are neglected a lot with world tours and overseas promotion and stuff when they deserve more love than vamps ;3; I mean.. 25 years going strong //u/ why dis Hyde come back to uk without vamps this time hhhh

6. Who is your ultimate bias in j-rock? Optionally: Post your most favorite picture(s) of them.

ahhhhh .. Aachan got me from the start ;; ﾉﾉ*ФωФ ;;ﾉﾉ ﾉﾉ                            

7. What is your most treasured j-rock related memory?

Um.. not that much has happened to me personally that I can really mention hehe >w>

Hizaki calling me cute at Hyper's meet & greet last year was probably the best thing that's acc happened to me ;;;;w;;;;;; It was the end of the day and I looked like a wreck, Hizaki saw me as I came up for cheki and said 'kawaii~' ////w// best memory heckk I mean Hizaki---- being called cute by Hizaki ;;;;;u; why dis I do not deserve (and obvs taking cheki with him was part of that good memory too >w>)

An Cafe was my first live, and I'll always remember that my one of my favourite singles is 'My heart leaps for 'C'' and when they played it after the encore I went insane hehe ;;; u ; that was a treasured moment for me because it was kind of surreal like 'oh wow a band that I love is playing one of my favourite songs is this real??' and ... since I was an hyperactive 15 year-old that moment just made me really excited ;v; I was singing along (horribly) to every lyric and bouncing up and down like crazy and I would not let that feeling go for a while //w/ ah to be young again ~~

But SuG is probably the best raibu memory ever ever. they played a very very small venue in London and it was literally the most intimate thing imaginable, you could touch everyone and Takecchi almost hit his head a few times on the lights above him ;;u; and even though I was in like, three rows of people away from the front, Chiyu's hand grazed mine for a second and that was the most special moment ;;w; Shinpei leaned into the audience for a group hug and Yuji and Chiyu were high-fiving and ruffling people's hair ///;w;/ it was such a long farewell with everyone touching hands and patting heads and it felt so nice and close, I thought we were really lucky to get such an intimate show ⁄•⁄ω⁄•⁄  

8. How do you support and enjoy j-rock the most? Buying CDs? Going to lives? Just full on going to Japan for it?

I buy Cd's if I can for bando that I really love and want to support, and at lives I buy at least one peice of merch every time too :3c and I'm trying to get into a habit of buying Cure if bands I like are featured >u> I accidentally end up following e v e r y o n e on twitter and just scroll thru liking posts if that counts as 'support' ? :'3

9. How does your family feel about this hobby of yours?  

My parents don't really mind, I end up showing my mama photos and videos and she understands my hype at everyone I think hehe, and I play cd's often so my parents hear J-rock a lot but don't complain~ we all have our own music collections now it’s so cute 〃▽〃 I talk about J-rock a lot like, I just ramble on mostly to myself because I have no-one else to talk to in the house so ;;u; my parents don't really listen that closely but ye, they don't mind and they're glad I'm into something different I guess :'3c

10.What is the craziest j-rock fandom story that you have?

idk what j-rock 'fandom' story means exactly,,, like, you heard the story from the fandom or the story is about the actual fandom itself..? ;;w; well actually I guess this is both haha this is the only story that I have worth telling and I only heard it a couple weeks ago but ;//u.//

A friend of a friend has connections with Mejibray’s MiA, and he messages her and lots of other peeps I’d imagine as MiA prob does~ and on one occasion MiA was sent a cute little (I say little but) Intimate Image that the 1 and only Yohio took of his peen and decided to share it around so other people could enjoy it obvs >>>ww.>> and he sent it to said friend, nice one >;3ccc thank u for showing me too I feel very privileged, too many bants I was dying ahh ..//www//// why dis MiA why dis......... poor Yohio ;; v; u don’t need to send dick pics to impress your senpai, kids ;;  /////; poor little child ;u;;
