Custody Court

Request: I would like one of Mini TK with the title of custody court, where TK and Carlos, sue the mother of (Y/N) for the damages and mistreatment she has done to her little girl, but not before she goes to prison for the damages to the minor, I need justice for the little girl.

2 years is how long you have been living with your father, TK Strand, and his boyfriend, Carlos Reyes aka your second father, and you were thriving. You loved every second of it. You were only 5 when you showed up at your father's workplace with your mother who had talked with your grandpa alone and then just left. You were confused and heartbroken but then you met your fathers, grandfather, and Your 126 family and you forgot all about your mother. 

Your mother had signed away her rights when she gave you up and TK took those rights after he signed the papers and turned them into the court. You would think that would be the last time you saw her but boy were you wrong. She started to frequently show up everywhere especially when she knew you would be at that place and she showed up at your school on numerous occasions, both fathers were contacted and Carlos even escorted her off the property several times.

In those 2 years you had opened up and became a new girl. You made jokes and laughed and loved to play games and sports. Your fathers never pushed you into something you didn't like. If it was a sport and you said that you didn't like it and weren't having fun then you would be instantly pulled from the team and wouldn't be forced to do it again. If there was a certain food you didn't like you would express that to them and they wouldn't feed you it anymore. They found out you were allergic to shellfish, cinnamon, coconut, kiwi, peas and spinach. Your mother didn't know any of these and fed you these things and you would have an allergic reaction and she would do nothing; she would just leave. You time you had almost died because you had stopped breathing twice and laid there and it took someone else to call 911 to actually get you the medical attention you needed and even after that she didn't give a shit. This happened on her watch 4 different times. 

Having been living with TK and Carlos you had met TK's father aka your grandfather, Owen Strand, and you loved but not the food he made and that's how you found out you were allergic to a lot of things. You had also met Carlos’ mother and father aka your soon to be but is already your grandmother and grandfather, Andrea Reyes and Gabriel Reyes, you loved them both too. They were happy to have a granddaughter to spoil. Carlos and Gabriel both worked for the police and have seen every record of yours, mostly hospital records and 911 calls along with her records. These would come in handy later on during this week.

The Reyes-Strand household were sleeping peacefully when their alarm started to go off at 6:30 AM. Carlos was quick to wake up and turn it off so it didn’t wake you up and so that you could sleep in, in the process TK was being woken up. “Hmmm time already?” He asked and Carlos smiled and kissed his boyfriend.

“It is for me but you can sleep in a little bit longer.” He said smiling and that made TK smile. TK’s shift started at 10 AM and he would be gone for 24 hrs and would be getting home at 10 AM the following day. 

“Mmmm that’s right. I still want to get Y/N/N up.” He said and Carlos smiled.

“Ok, Baby.” Carlos said and kissed him and so they both were up. Carlos got in the shower while TK went and started into the kitchen but first, he checked on you. He walked to your room and opened the door to find you sound asleep snuggled under your blankets holding your little stuffed wolf that Carlos had won for you. You had always been one for warmth, you also tended to wear hoodies outside when it could be blazing hot but that is just how you were. He smiled and walked on into the kitchen to start to get breakfast and your lunch packed. Carlos was in the shower getting ready and when he was done, he walked out in his clothes and into the kitchen where TK was handing him a cup of coffee and then a plate of food. It was now 7:30 AM and it was time for you to get up. TK headed to your room and walked in. 

“Good morning, Princess.” TK said softly in a soothing tone but it was enough to stir you he smiled. “It's time to get up. It is your last day of school.” He said, chuckling and smiling as he went over to your bed and got down his knees and rubbed your back, you groaned.

“No. Stay home.” You said turning away from him and he chuckled.

“No, it is time to get up.” He said and stroked your hair and you sighed but opened your eyes. “There are those pretty eyes I love so much.” He said and you rubbed them and then he was standing up and moving around but you stayed. He picked out your clothes with your approval and then he was getting you up and ushering you to the bathroom to have you brush your teeth. When you were done in there he was already in your bedroom when you came in. You got dressed and he and you talked about anything and everything. Once you were dressed you both were heading in the kitchen where Carlos was plating your plate and getting you a drink. 

“Good morning, Cariño.” Carlos said smiling.

“Good morning, Papa.” You said walking over and hugging him. 

“She didn’t want to get up.” TK said and Carlos chuckled.

“Reminds me of someone else.” He said meaning TK.

“I am not like that.” TK defended 

“Yes, you are, Daddy.” You said smiling.

“You turned me kid against me.” TK said faking hurt and that made you chuckle along with Carlos while TK smiled at hearing you laugh.

“Our kid and yes you are hard to get up.” Carlos said

“You’re one to talk.” TK playfully smirked, you just sat back and watched them playfully argue. Every now and then you would chime in while you ate. TK had started to fool around with your hair as you and Carlos had breakfast and he had put your hair up into a French braid. He had learned to do hair when you were young and he was proud to say that he was a master of it and so was Carlos, he had practiced and learned too. Soon you were finished eating and hugging TK “Have a good day at school. I’ll see you tomorrow morning.” He said and you smiled and you nodded.

“Love you too, Daddy.” You said and he kissed your head. Carlos was holding your bag and lunch bag waiting and watching the interaction being exchanged. TK was soon saying bye to his boyfriend and kissing him and the two of you were off. They took turns waking you up and taking you to school. Carlos helped you into the car and made sure you were buckled in before he was pulling out of the driveway.

“Are you ready for today?” He asked and you shrugged.

“I guess so.” You said and he smiled. He knew that you didn’t like being away from him and your father for too long.

“Everything is going to be great.” He said and you smiled and then he turned on the radio and began to sing which made you smile and joined in with him. You both sang and laughed until he was dropping you off at school with a kiss to the temple and a hug and watched you walk into the school with your teacher and then he was off to work.

TK had just arrived at work and walked into the station and was greeted by his father, Owen. “How is my beautiful granddaughter?” He asked and TK rolled his eyes.

“Hello to you too, Dad. Carlos and I are perfect. She’s doing good. Didn’t want to get up this morning.” He told his dad and Owen chuckled.

“Just like her daddy.” Owen said, teasing his son.

“Funny that is what Carlos said.” TK said and Owen chuckled. Soon everyone started to come in and their shift began. Not many calls came in but every now and then they would be called and off they went to save the person. 

They had just gotten back from a call and everyone was talking and laughing. They were talking about the recent call and putting their gear away and TK was restocking the ambulance when someone walked into the firehouse. TK was in the ambulance so he couldn’t see them but he could hear what was going on. “Can I help you?” Judd asked the man.

“Where can I find TK Strand?” The man asked.

“I’ll get him.” Judd said “Hey TK! Someone is here to see you!” Judd said and TK came out of the ambulance about the time Owen showed up as well. Everyone was looking in curiosity. 

“I’m TK. What can I do for you?” He asked, the man pulled out a manila envelope and handed it to him.

“You’ve been served.” He said and then he was turning and leaving about the time Carlos walked in and passed him giving him a confused look. TK and everyone were speechless, he couldn’t stop staring at the package. 

“What’s wrong?” Carlos asked 

“I’ve been served.” TK said 

“For what?” Owen asked

“I have no clue.” He replied and started to open the envelope and pulled out the contents. He started to read through it. “Fiona is trying to fight for custody of Y/N.” He said and his heart plummeted.

“Didn’t she sign over her rights as her mother?” Tommy asked and TK nodded.

“She did but now she’s trying to fight for it back.” TK said

“No, absolutely not. She is not going to get custody back.” Carlos said 

“Is she legally allowed to do this?” Judd asked 

“Technically a parent who has given up their rights to a child cannot regain custody or visitation. But she can petition the court to regain custody and/or visitation rights.” Marjon said, looking at her phone and then looking up. 

“Fiona gave up her rights that should be the end of it. Why in the world would she want it back?” Nancy asked and TK shrugged as Carlos took papers and started to read through it.

“She must be high or drinking again. We have a pretty strong case against her.” Owen said and Judd nodded.

“He’s right. I can get police records of everything and emergency records. It also helps that I adopted her last month as well.” Carlos said 

“We’ll figure this out. We’re not losing our Mini TK.” Mateo said and TK nodded. He just didn’t know what to say. He felt like he could throw up at the possibility that he could lose his daughter, you. He couldn’t lose you. He, Carlos, and everyone else loved you so much. He was going to fight for you.

“He's right. We'll figure it out. Right now, let's get lunch.” Carlos said looking at his boyfriend who was clearly upset. TK nodded and let himself be led away to the kitchen and when they got food Owen, Carlos, and TK went up to Owen's office. 

“I just don't understand.” TK said, looking over the paperwork. “What if I lose her? What if I lose our daughter?” He asked looking up at Carlos.

“That's not going to happen. We both have a steady job and a steady income. Y/N has flourished since being with you. Yes, we work long shifts but we have set hours and we have people at our beck and call when we need her to be watched. We're not losing her.” He said 

“What if she brings up my past and comas?” He asked and Owen answered.

“She has a past too. She has a record. Fiona can't use that against you.” Owen said and TK nodded. 

“How do you know she has a record?” Carlos asked suspiciously and Owen shook his head.

“That's not the important thing right now.” Owen said and that made TK smile and chuckle. It grew silent but it was a comfortable silence. They ate while in the comforting presence of each other. 

“I can't believe Fiona is trying to get her back. She didn't even care about her. We still have that note that she wrote to you about her.” TK said and Carlos nodded.

“We use that against her. We get the medical and police records. We also need to hire an attorney.” Carlos said 

“I have a friend that is an attorney and a really good one. He would help out in a second.” Owen said 

“Is he close?” TK asked and Owen nodded

“Very. I'll give him a call-” He started to say as soon as the bells went off “when we come back.” He said and Carlos and TK nodded as they stood up. They exchanged ‘be careful's and they were off.

It was the end of the day for you and you had just walked outside of the school building to see Carlos’ Camero and you smiled and made your way over to him. He got out when he saw you coming his way. “Hi, Papa.” You greeted him excitedly.

“Hi, Cariño. Did you have a good day?” He asked, hugging you as you nodded.

“Uh huh!” You said and went on explaining your day to him and he smiled seeing the excitement in your eyes. It made everything disappear and the bad news that he and TK had gotten not matter for a few minutes. He let you go on and on about your day and he would answer when needed. Soon he was pulling up to the house and parking and then getting you out of the car. He grabbed your stuff as he watched you scamper off to the front door and wait for him and that made him smile. He shut the door and locked it and then walked up to the front door unlocked it as you grabbed the handle and pushed it open and ran into the house. 

“Easy!” He yelled out when you sped into the house and all he got in response was a giggle and that made him smile. You had disappeared while he was in the kitchen going through your bag and grabbing your lunch box and opening it, disposing of the trash and the half-eaten contents. His mind went to the news that he and TK had gotten. He was so caught up in his mind that when you presented Lou in front of his face he jumped and almost let out a n inhuman shriek. “Y/N Y/M/N Strand! You scared the shi- crap out of me!” He yelled with a hand over his heart.

“Ohhhh you almost said a bad word.” You teased smirking and he rolled his eyes.

“Why do you have Lou?” He asked, eyeing the alligator lizard suspiciously.

“I told you I was going to get him out and play with him. You said ok.” You said and then he realized that he did in fact say it was ok while he was caught up in thinking about the previous events.

“That’s right.” He said and you looked at him.

“Papa… are you ok? Do you want to hold Lou to make you feel better?” You asked, thrusting the lizard into this face and visibly flinching.

“I’m ok Cariño. You can keep Lou.” He said and was glad when you pulled him away from his face.

“Ok.” You said and skipped off and he let out a breath he didn’t know he was holding. Carlos was glad and relaxed when you had put Lou away and then the rest of the night was all about you and him. You both played games and he helped you with your homework. Supper was made and eaten and a few movies were watched after a bath and getting ready for bed. You had fallen asleep snuggled into his side and he carried you to bed. As he was slipping out of your room his phone rang, he looked at the name and saw it was TK and he answered it.

“Hello?” Carlos asked

“Hey, Baby. Dad called his friend and we are all set to go.” TK said as Carlos arrived at the kitchen.

“That’s great! When does he want to meet us?” He asked

“Tomorrow after you drop Y/N/N off at school.” TK said and Carlos nodded.

“That sounds great. She’s not going to be taken away from us.” Carlos said and he could hear TK smile.

“How is she?” TK asked

“She’s great. I just put her to bed not too long ago.” He said

“Damn I missed her. We just got back from a call.” TK said, sounding sad.

“It’s ok. You can talk to her in the morning.” He said 

“That sounds great.” TK said

“She played with Lou when we got home. Scared the shit out of me.” He said and TK laughed “Hey it's not funny!” He defended but smiled.

“Yes, it is! There is nothing to be scared about.” TK chuckled, “Besides the flesh eating when it’s hungry.” He said knowing it would rile up his boyfriend.

“Not funny.” Carlos said and then the bell went off.

“Duty calls. Love you.” TK said

“Love you too. Be careful.” Carlos said

“Always.” TK replied and then they were both hanging the phone up. 

Carlos smiled and finished up what he needed to do downstairs and watched a little more TV and then he was heading off to bed after making sure you were still good and sound asleep. He got himself ready and got into bed and fell asleep. His night was filled with questions and waking up multiple times and he was having nightmares and that led to him checking in on you making sure you were still there. At one point after 4 AM he woke from a cold sweat and he had to get up and check on you and then he was heading to the living room and watched some TV he and TK texted for a few and then he was dozing off on the couch. It wasn’t even 3 hours later when he was jerking awake to his phone alarm going off. He was quick to turn it off and stand up and stretch. He started a pot of coffee then he was heading to your room to start getting you ready.  “Mi Cariño it is time to get up.” He said walking into your room and kneeling down beside your bed.

“Papa?” You asked and he smiled as you opened your eyes and looked at him sleepily.

“Yes, Cariño?” He asked

“Daddy?” You asked

“He’s at work. Do you want to see if I can call him while you get ready for school?” He asked and you nodded your head and he smiled and nodded. “Ok. Go brush your teeth and get changed. I'll be down in the kitchen.” He said and again you nodded

“Ok, Papa.” You said and he got up as you climbed out of bed to do as you were told. Carlos went down into the kitchen and started breakfast as he pulled out his phone and dialed his boyfriend and the father of his daughter, he answered almost immediately.

“Hey, Baby.” TK answered 

“Hey! Someone wants to say hi.” He said and just then you came into the kitchen and he put the phone on speaker.

“Daddy?” You asked 

“Hi, Princess.” TK said as Carlos handed you the phone and he continued making breakfast. “Were you good for Papa last night and this morning?” He asked

“Yes, Daddy! We played with Lou!” You said excitedly.

“Correction, she played with Lou while I stayed my distance.” Carlos butted in as he made your lunch for the day. TK chuckled. You definitely got your braveness and love for unique animals from him. 

“You love Lou don’t you?” TK asked and you nodded enthusiastically.

“I do! He’s just the best!” You said and Carlos cringed. 

“Are you going to have a good day at school today?” He asked

“You know it, Daddy! I miss you.” You said with a frown and that made Carlos smile sadly.

“I miss you too but I’ll see you after school today.” He said and your face lit up.

“Really?” You asked 

“Really.” He said and you shrieked just then the bells went off. “Hey, listen I have to go but you be good for Papa and have a good day at school and remember I love you.” He said and you nodded.

“I love you too!” You said and then handed the phone to Carlos.

“Be safe. I love you. I’ll see you later.” Carlos said 

“I love you too, Baby.” He said and then the phone was being hung up. During the whole conversation you were eating and so was he.  

After breakfast Carlos got your backpack together, he had you get your homework done after supper. He and you headed to the car and he headed to your school which wasn’t that far away and he was thankful for that. When he arrived, he gave you a kiss and a hug “Be good and don’t get in trouble. I love you.” He said and you nodded.

“You got it, Papa! Love you too!” You said and then you were ushered off into the school by a teacher. Now it was time for him to meet TK at the lawyer’s office but first he was picking up coffee for the both of them.

Carlos parked beside TK’s Jeep and got out when he got out. They hugged and kissed each other and TK was handed his coffee. “You, ok?” Carlos asked and TK shrugged.

“It’s all just hitting me and I don’t like any of it.” He said and Carlos nodded.

“I get it. I do. Let’s go in and see what can be done.” Carlos said and TK nodded and so they walked into the building and the receptionist was quick to guide them into a very nice-looking office and degrees were displayed everywhere. 

“Mr. Terious, Mr. Reyes and Mr. Strand are here.” The receptionist said a man in his 50s looked up and smiled and stood up. He had short dark hair, blue eyes, slight stubble, and he was at least 6’0” tall.

“Thank you, Christina.” He said and she smiled and walked out of the room closing the door.

“I’m Corey Terious but you can just call me Corey.” Corey said and smiled.

“I’m Carlos, TK’s boyfriend, the other father of Y/N.” Carlos said and shook his hand.

“I’m TK, the father.” TK said and shook his hand.

“Your father has told me a lot about you both. Please sit.” Corey said “Carlos you said that you were the other father.” He said and Carlos nodded.

“Yes, I adopted her last month.” He said and Corey nodded.

“That will help majorly. I’ve done my research and it looks like Fiona Hart gave up parental rights to Y/N when she dropped her off at the station. Is that correct?” He asked and TK nodded.

“Yes, we have a copy and the courts have a copy.” He said and Corey nodded. 

“Both of you have good steady jobs and paychecks coming in regularly that also helps. TK I also see that you have a past but you’ve been cleared of everything.” He said looking through the notes and TK nodded.

“That’s right.” TK said as Carlos’ hand went to hold his.

“Will it help if I could get medical records and police records of Fiona?” Carlos asked and Corey looked up at him.

“It would but I don’t want you to risk your job.” He said and Carlos shook his head.

“I wouldn’t be. I want to help out with this as much as possible.” He said and Corey nodded.

“Very well. Is there anything you can tell me about the day Y/N was dropped off to you, TK?” He said looking over to him. TK nodded.

“She was covered in bruises and she smelled of drugs. Judd Ryder had her while I and dad talked to Fiona. We also have pictures of the bruising.” He said and Corey nodded.

“Would Judd be ok with going on the stand?” He asked and TK nodded.

“Yes, he loves that little girl as much as we do. He also noticed that when something loud sounded, she flinched away.” TK nodded and Corey nodded as he wrote down what he just learned. The meeting went on for another hour and more coffee was consumed and then they were standing up.

“It looks like we have a strong case. I’ll keep in touch. Carlos when you get those records please send them over right away.” Corey said and Carlos nodded.

“Absolutely.” Carlos said and Corey smiled and walked around the desk and shook their hand and they started to walk towards the door.

“Is there any possible way we could sue her and send her to prison for what she has done?” TK asked and Corey paused and thought for a moment.

“I’ll look into it.” He said and TK smiled and nodded.

“Thank you so much.” He said and Carlos nodded and then they said their goodbyes and they were on their way.

“See you later Mr. Reyes and Mr. Strand.” Christina said and they smiled.

“Please call us Carlos and TK.” Carlos said and she smiled.

“Very well.” She said and they were headed out of the building. They walked to their cars.

“We got this.” Carlos said, pulling his boyfriend in for a hug.

“I know but it’s still fucking scary.” TK said and Carlos nodded.

“I know it is and you owe a dollar to the swear jar.” Carlos said smirking at the last part and TK rolled his eyes.

“She’s not even around.” He said smiling.

“I know I was just messing with you.” Carlos said and they kissed each other and then they got in their cars and headed home.

They both arrived home and parked their cars in the driveway and they headed inside. TK went to take a shower and change and then he was joining Carlos on the couch. Neither of them said anything as they held each other and watched whatever show they had saved. Lunch was ordered in and they had it on the couch as they just enjoyed being in the embrace of each other. When it came time to pick you up, they were both headed to TK’s Jeep and they were off. Very small talk was made and music filled the car. They were quick to get to your school and they were getting out and greeting your smiling happy face as you ran to them “Papa! Daddy!” You shouted and they smiled.

“Hey Princess!” TK said and bent down as you ran into his arms.

“Hi, Cariño!” Carlos said and hugged you as TK stood up. 

“I missed you.” TK said 

“I missed you too, Daddy.” You said and they smiled, they loaded you up into the car and they were headed home. The care ride was much more enjoyable and you were now nonstop talking and giggling and they gave input when it was needed. They arrived home and everyone was getting out. Once you were out you skipped up to the front door and waited and when they got there and opened the door you were rushing in dropping everything and you disappeared upstairs. TK grabbed your bag and lunch box and brought it to the table. Carlos took your lunch box and started what he did yesterday while TK went through your backpack. Tomorrow was Saturday which meant that everyone could sleep in and both men had the day off. 

“Daddy! Daddy! Daddy!” You yelled out coming into the kitchen.

“Yes, Princess?” He asked 

“Lou got out.” You said and Carlos froze.

“Y/N, what did you just say?” He asked

“Lou got out.” You said looking at him.

“Uh um ok. Nobody panic. We got this under control.” Carlos said, clearly panicking.

“Babe, it is ok.” TK

“Yea, Papa. It’s ok.” You said 

“I’m going to go and get supper while you find Lou.” Carlos said and was out of there quickly. You and TK looked at each other and shrugged and off the two you went to find Lou. 

2 hours later Carlos was coming back home even though you and TK had found Lou only 6 minutes after he left, turns out he was under the lamp in your room. Carlos walked in to you and TK on the couch cuddled up together. “Hey guys.” He said suspiciously the both of you turned around.

“Hi!” You both said.

“Did you find Lou?” He asked and you and TK looked at each other. “Did you?” He asked again and no answer “Alright. We are moving.” He said as he set the food down and the two of you burst out laughing.

“Babe, we found him 6 minutes after you left.” TK said laughing as the two of you walked over to the table.

“Oh, thank goodness. I love this house.” He said and you and TK laughed as he helped set the dinner table. 

Supper was eaten and then cleaned up. The three of you cuddled up on the couch and a movie was put on about 40 minutes into the movie and you were out like light snuggled between your two fathers and they smiled and let you sleep. The movie ended and TK was carrying you up the stairs and into the room he kissed your forehead and was out the door while turning the light off, Carlos was right behind him doing the same thing and then they were headed to bed.

It was a very uneventful night and everyone stayed asleep. Carlos and TK were woken up by TK’s phone ringing and he was quick to answer it. 

“Hello?” TK asked 

“TK it’s Corey. I’m sorry for waking you up so early but I wanted to let you know everything looks good and is ready to go. Thank Carlos for getting me those records. We have a date set for Monday morning.” Corey said

“That’s great, thank you so much. We’ll see you on Monday.” TK said

“Very good. I’ll let you both enjoy your day with your little girl.” He said then he was saying bye and hanging up.

“You little shit. You were getting records, weren’t you?” TK asked his boyfriend.

“Guilty.” He said and smiled and so did TK.

“I love you.” TK said

“I love you too.” Carlos said and kissed him “So?” He asked

“Oh yea. That was Corey and he said everything looked good and we have a date set for Monday.”TK said

“Woah, that is fast.” Carlos said and TK nodded

“I agree but it's great.” TK said and it was Carlos’ turn to nod. 

“What time is it?” Carlos asked

“11 AM.” TK said about that time you came running into their room and jumping in the middle.

“Papa! Daddy!” You yelled out and they smiled at you and they grabbed you and snuggled you. You guys stayed there for a few minutes. “I’m hungry.” You said plainly and they laughed.

“Alright, Princess. Let’s go.” He said as they both got up and headed into the kitchen. TK texted his father and let him know what was going on and then he was texting Judd too. Judd came back and let him know he would be happy to do anything for you.

The rest of the weekend was spent with each other being in each other’s presence.

Monday rolled around and it was decided to have you go to school and be picked up by one of your aunts while your fathers were at custody court. TK and Carlos dropped you off at school in the Jeep and then they were heading to the court house. They were both so nervous but knew they had this in the bag. TK parked and they headed in and went through security with ease. When they got to the floor, they saw Corey and all of the 126, you had become part of their family and they weren’t going to let you go that easily. “Good morning, both of you. This is just a hearing. We’ll have to wait for a set date.” He said and they both nodded.

“We understand.” TK said and Corey nodded.

“Very well. Let’s go in.” He said and then they went in along with the others. Everyone was nervous but they knew they had won the case. TK and Fiona spotted each other and she smirked and she walked over to him smiling.

“Hello TK.” She said smiling and TK smiled back because he knew if he was mean or said anything downgrading her the court would be over and the battle would be lost.

“Hey, Fiona.” He said and Carlos was there the whole time.

“You must be Carlos. It’s nice to meet you.” She said and he nodded.

“Nice to meet you too.” Even though he knew it was a lie and everyone did too. 

���How’s Y/N?” She asked

“She’s great.” TK said 

“Does she ask about me?” She asked

“No.” Carlos said he and TK just wanted this conversation to end. The judge walked in and she went back over to her table and they sighed in relief.

“All rise the Honorable Judge Hayes is presiding.” The judge walked in and then sat down and everyone sat. The hearing began, evidence was presented and questions were asked. The hearing was long and drawn out by the time they were done it was late and everyone was tired. Fiona played the ‘oh poor pitiful me’ card but nobody bought it. When they met with Corey, he had really good things to say and then they were able to go home. When they got out of the building it was almost dark and they knew you would be home and probably asleep. 

Carlos opted to drive home and TK didn’t even protest the drive was driven in silence, events still playing through their heads. Carlos pulled into the driveway and sat there for a few minutes and looked at each other. “We got this. She’s not going anywhere.” Carlos said and TK nodded.

“I believe you. I just can’t deal with losing her.” He said and Carlos shook his head.

“We’re not. We’re the best option for her and her mother is not.” Carlos said putting a hand on his boyfriend’s cheek and TK leaned into it. “Hey, I love you.” He added.

“I love you too.” TK said and kissed his boyfriend and then they were heading inside and were greeted with a TV on low volume. Luisa turned and smiled at her brother and hopefully future brother-in-law.

“Hey. How did it go?” She asked getting up to go and greet them.

“I think we have a very strong case against her. She’s not getting her back.” Carlos said and TK nodded. 

“Did she behave for you?” TK asked and Luisa smiled and nodded.

“She’s a wonderful kid. Very polite.” She said and that made TK and Carlos smile.

“That is because TK is her father.” Carlos said and TK blushed and looked down. 

“We did her homework and then had supper. We played some games and watched TV. We also played with Lou, she loves that thing and I have to agree it is cute.” She said and Carlos’ mouth dropped.

“Seriously not you too.” He said and TK smiled.

“He’s great.” TK defended and Luisa smiled and nodded. 

“Well, it is time for me to leave. If you need me to watch her again while you guys are away to court let me know. Love you both.” She said and hugged them and they hugged back. She grabbed her stuff and she was leaving. Once she was gone, they looked at each other.

“Go check in on her and I’ll start fixing food to eat and then we are going to relax.” Carlos said and TK nodded. He had been quiet and keeping to himself throughout this process and Carlos understood, so if that meant that he had to be the strong one right now and take charge then so be it. Carlos watched his boyfriend walk away to your room.

TK arrived at your room and quietly opened it and saw you sound asleep. Your stuffed wolf had fallen and he smiled and walked further into your room and picked it and placed it into your arms. You snuggled it and fell further into sleep. He knelt down and kissed your forehead. “I love you.” He said and stroked your hair and you snuggled into his touch and he smiled and then got up and walked out cracking the door and back to his boyfriend who was holding a plate for him. 

“She, ok?” He asked and TK nodded.

“Sound to sleep snuggling the wolf you got her.” He said and that made Carlos smile.

“Good now lets eat and go back to bed.” Carlos said and TK nodded and they did just that. After they were done Carlos went and checked in on you and then they were heading to bed.

4 weeks later and they were being called back into the courtroom. This was the final. Of course, they had been in out for small matters but this was the big and final. Corey briefed them and then the judge was coming in and being introduced. Fiona was prohibited from getting in contact with TK and Carlos and they were happy to follow that rule. The judge wanted you to be there but not in the courtroom for the time being. Court started and everyone was ready for a battle. Both lawyers presented their cases and evidence. “Your honor, the best interest for the child would be to go with the mother.” Josh Walters, Fiona’s lawyer, said.

“What evidence do you have for this?” Judge Hayes asked and Josh brought out the evidence and took it to Judge Hayes.

“As you can see the father has been arrested and has used drugs.” Josh said 

“Objection.” Corey said 

“Proceed.” Judge Hayes said and Corey brought over his paperwork.

“My client has had a steady job for years. That was in the past. As you can see Fiona has been in and out of jail since she has moved here and before she has moved here. She gave up rights as soon as she arrived in Texas. She has also been using drugs ever since. She does not have a steady paying job. I would also like to bring up the fact that Y/N has been in and out of the hospital while she was in Fiona’s care and she had stopped breathing three times.” Corey said

“Objection!” Josh said 

“Overruled!” Judge Hayes said and slammed his gavel down. “Continue.” He said to Corey.

“I would like to call the stand Firefighter Judd Ryder. He was there and was in possession of Y/N Strand while my client and the defendant were talking.” Corey said and Judge Hayes nodded and Judd was walked to the stand and sworn in. “Mr. Ryder, you had Y/N while everything was being discussed, correct?” Corey asked

“That is correct.” He said

“Can you tell what state Y/N was in while you were caring for her for the time being?” Corey asked

“She was scared to death but didn’t show it. She smelled of drugs and part of shirt fell away from her shoulder and there was a bruise which we have pictures of and you should too.” Judd said and Corey nodded and handed over the pictures. “When asked who did it to her, she said and I quote “Mommy and her boyfriends. She would have guys over all the time and they leave in the morning. The house always smelt funny. Mommy and the men always hit me when I asked something or spoke. They tried to touch me but I ran away and hid.”” He added. “While I was showing her around a loud noise happened and she flinched away.” He finished. 

“Thank you, Mr. Ryder. As you can see the best option for Y/N would be staying with her father.” Corey said. Tommy Vega was called to the stand and sworn in. “Mrs. Vega, how would you describe TK Strand and Carlos Reyes as fathers?” Corey asked.

“They are great fathers. Anything that Y/N needs or wants they are tending to her right away. They would do nothing to put her in harm's way. TK is always smiling when he talks to her and about her. Same goes for Carlos.” She said and Corey nodded and she was dismissed. The letter that Fiona had given TK was presented and so were the papers for rights being signed over. Recess was called and everyone broke away and some out of the courtroom. “We have strong evidence. We got this.” Corey said to them and they both nodded. They were being called back quickly and that was not normal.

“Has the jury reached a verdict?” Judge Hayes asked and one stood up.

“We the jury think it is in the best interest for Y/N to stay with her father.” They said and everyone sighed in relief. Judge Hayes nodded.

“Y/N will be staying with her father. It is also decided that Fiona Hart will be sentenced to life in prison for possession of drugs, dealing drugs, child endangerment, and child abuse. The father, TK Strand and Carlos Reyes will be suing Fiona Hart for $6,000 a restraining order is also being set. Court is adjourned.” Judge Hayes said and slammed his gavel down and everyone sighed in relief. They did it and they won. You were brought in and you ran to your fathers and they held you. They watched as Fiona was taken away in shackles. She tried to call out but she was forbidden to speak to you. The 126 gathered around smiling. 

“Thank you, Judd.” TK smiled and he smiled.

“Anything for you, Carlos, and Mini TK. She’s not going anywhere anytime soon. She is family for life.” He said everyone agreed. 

They did it. They had won. They’re family was staying together. Nobody was taking you away from them anytime soon. Fiona was gone out of your lives…. for now.

10. state an unpopular opinion that you have.

.......... it's been almost 6 months and i'm still upset about how the finale and tarlos wedding went down i dunno, to have the writers mention the wedding in literally every episode of the season and then it ended up just feeling tacked on to the end of a veryyyy heavy two hours...... tk and carlos deserved better and i hate how upset it still makes me when i think about it

15. what time do you usually go to sleep & wake up?

now there's a question haha. my work schedule is consistent in days but ooooooh boy there's some different start times. the last month or so i've starting doing the baking shift that starts at 3 am (and i usually go in at 2:30 bc i'm slow still) twice a week where my first alarm is at 1 am 🙃 otherwise i usually work at 8 so i wake up at 6. and my days off are ???? whenever my body feels like it! i'm sure the wildly different sleep patterns i try to have during the week are great for my body and brain hahaha

26. what’s your favorite season & why?

spring!! it's such a short lived season in minnesota with how we can get snow up into the beginning of may some years but!! there's just something so lovely about the thaw after such a long winter that i love so so much. the grass turning green! blooms coming out! you can wear less layers! ugh i'm actually excited for snow right now, but juts know in a few months i'll be waiting for spring to come back

chapter 4

As the night eventually came to a close, everyone had eventually made their way back inside to head to bed - well everyone except you and Joel. Staring up at the stars, you hadn’t noticed that Joel was once again facing you, “whatcha thinking about?”

Without looking down at him, you quickly replied, “did you know that shooting stars are actually just meteoroids that burn up when they go through Earth’s atmosphere?”

“That was kinda random, but no I didn’t know that off the top of my head, so thank you for that,” Joel replied.

“Your hair is really soft,” you blurted out since you had stopped playing with his hair. 

“Thank you, I have a custom shampoo and conditioner I get that really helps me out.”

“I don’t really think I’m shocked by that fact, to be honest. I respect it,” you said. Eventually, Joel laid his head back down on your chest as you continued to run your hand through his hair. The two of you spent the next hour or so outside on the hammock, when he broke the comfortable silence once more. 

“When I drop my mixtape, do you want me to shout you out?” 

“Bee, I think both of us need to go to sleep, but yeah, obviously.”

Once he eventually got off of you, the two of you walked back into the condo; you led the way with Joel close behind you. As the two of you got closer to your door, which was conveniently right across from his, you two said your goodnights and went to bed. 

As you tried to sleep, your mind was moving 100mph. All your thoughts were racing and you weren’t sure if you would be able to sleep at all tonight. Your eyes remained open as your brain tried to decode whatever was going on between you and Joel. It wasn’t like you were opposed for something to happen, it just scared you, and when things scared you, you ran. 

There was only one thing in your life that you had never ran away from: gymnastics. The only time that you had ran away from the sport was because you didn’t really have a choice, but being here felt like you were running away from your sport. Although it was only a small thing, the constant fear of hurting yourself again was becoming debilitating and there was no way to stop that other than working. 

You had run from home when the fear of not making it got too hard. You ran from any friendships outside of the sport that you deemed a distraction. You ran from anyone who said you wouldn’t make it because the inevitable question of ‘what if they’re right’ always came looming in. And right now as things got deeper with Joel, you were debating running. 

“Now on beam, y/n y/l/n, she has spent more of this past year and a half leading up to this moment in recovery for an ACL injury. Now, there are rumors that she will be doing the dismount that was the cause of her injury once again. 

She has many solid passes and a high difficulty score, so if she does well, she will be a top contender for the Olympic team. Alright, she’s started her routine off well and her dismount is approaching,” the announcer said. 

As you went for the dismount, you made the same mistake you had made once before. “And unfortunately, it looks like y/n has once again injured her leg doing this dismount and she will not be able to compete in the Olympics.”

“y/n. y/n. Wake up, babe. C’mon, it’s just a bad dream, you’re okay,” the familiar voice that was talking to you felt like it was miles away. As you started to wake up, you became more aware of your surroundings, “are you okay?”

“Yeah, yeah, I’m okay. Why?” you grumbled, taking in Joel’s disheveled state. 

“I got up to go to the bathroom and I heard you yelling, I just wanted to make sure you were okay,” Joel asked, quietly. He noticed the way that tears had fallen down your face and how quickly you were able to calm yourself down, “how often do you have nightmares?”

“Not often,” you said, watching as he raised a brow, “um, a lot. It just depends on what’s going on.”

“Does Kev know that they’re this bad?” he watched as you shook your head, watching as you started to get up out of bed, “whoa, whoa, whoa. Where are you going, sweet pea?”

“Up, I’m probably not going to be able to fall back asleep, so might as well start my day,” you said, yawning. 

“No, that’s what we’re not going to do. You look tired.”

“Thanks, Bee, you’re so kind.”

“Yeah, I try. C’mon, lay down and try to get some sleep.” 

“Bee-,” you tried to protest, but you were quickly interrupted by the man in front of you, “no, you lay down and try to go to sleep. If you need anything or want to talk, I’m next door, now goodnight.”

He made his way back towards the door and got ready to close it, “Bee?”

“What’s up?”

“Uh, do you mind staying with me until I fall asleep?” you asked, watching as a small smile graced his lips. He closed the door behind him and made his way back towards you, moving the blanket, so that he could join you. You ended up laying on his chest with a leg tangled in his, your arms wrapped around him, as he played with your hair in an attempt to lull you to sleep. 

“I had a dream that I got hurt again,” you whispered, softly enough to where if he wasn’t right next to you he would have missed what you said. 

“Are you that scared that you’ll get hurt again?” he waited for a response, but you simply nodded, “look, I think you’re doing everything you can to help your recovery. PT, playing it safe at practice, whatever. But if you let the fear control your life, you won’t move forward.” 

“When did you become so wise, Beezer?”

“I’ve always been this wise, you just haven’t noticed,” Joel said, continuing to play with your hair until you eventually fall asleep. He knew that he said he would only stay with you until you fell asleep, but the comfort he felt with your arms wrapped around him and you being this close was enough to convince him to stay. He didn’t know where things between the two of you were going, but he was just happy to be with you right now. 

Glancing over at the clock, he saw that it was almost 5 and he knew that they guys would eventually come to get him in a couple hours, but right now he just wanted to stay right here. He attempted to just stay awake and he would sneak out around 6:30, but he didn’t realize how inevitable sleep was going to be at this moment. 

Travis and Karly had gotten up around the same time, Travis was going out with the boys and Karly was planning on taking you out for breakfast while the boys were out on the water. When Travis made his way out to the living room, he wasn’t shocked to see that Joel and Morgan were the only two that hadn’t made it out of their rooms yet. 

So as Travis made his way towards Joel’s room, knocking a few times, but when he heard no response he walked in, only to find his bed empty and his phone still on the charger. Travis went to the next place he thought of and checked the bathroom to see if he was in there, but with no response, he was ready to look outside for his youngest teammate. 

“Hey, baby. Come see this,” Karly’s voice rang out in the hallway. 

“No, I can’t find, Beezer,” Travis grumbled. 

“Yeah, no, I found him,” Travis turned around to see his girlfriend standing in the doorway to your room. 

“No, you’re joking,” but Travis quickly realized she wasn’t once he saw you and Joel holding each other as you slept, “oh, damn. They didn’t, you know?”

The pair eventually walked closer to you two, looking around the room for any clothes or any evidence that something had happened, but when they saw the two of you still in pajamas they let out a deep sigh. “Yo, Beezer, c’mon. We have to get the boat ready,” Travis said quietly, laughing as Joel’s eyes opened slowly and the smile that grew on his face seeing you still in his arms. 

“Before you go all protective, nothing happened, she just had a nightmare,” Joel grumbled, attempting to unlatch your arms from around him. 

Karly’s eyebrows raised in shock,”she told you about the nightmares? Oh my god. Okay, well the coast is clear for you to sneak back into your room, so I recommend doing so before Kev kills you.”

Joel eventually got up from your bed, not without you attempting to pull him back closer to you, before him and Travis left your room. “Hey, babes. Do you want to go get breakfast?”

“Yeah, sure,” you mumbled, laying back down on the pillow. 

“No, none of that. We have to get up,” Karly said, attempting to get you up once again, “c’mon, Sunshine, I believe in you.”

“Don’t call me, Sunshine,” you shot her a quick glare at the nickname she had given you and only used when she wanted to annoy you. 

“Awe, is Sunshine upset that her boy had to leave?” 

“Shut up, I love you, but shut up,” you grumbled before finally getting out of bed. You quickly got ready for the day, meeting Karly in the living room as she talked to Travis. 

“Awe, look Sleeping Beauty has woken up once again,” Joel cooed, watching as you sat down on the couch and laid down, a simple attempt to get more sleep. 

“Shut the literal fuck up, Farabee,” you said, moreso into the pillow than out loud. 

“Make me,” Joel said, without much thinking on his part, which caused you to sit up quickly, shooting a glare at him once again. 

“Farabee, I’d watch it if I were you,” Nolan said, attempting to hide his laugh, “both y/n/n and Kev look like they’re about to kill you.” 

“Yolo,” Joel shrugged. 

“RIP, Young Beezer. A good teammate and a good friend, who will be sincerely missed,” Carter said, wiping away fake tears. 

“I kinda want a better funeral speech than that, but that’s deeply appreciated, Hartsy,” Joel mumbled. 

“y/n, we have to go if we want to get back in time to go swimming,” Karly said, grabbing Travis’ keys from him and pulling you off the couch, “Bye boys.” 

…..

After breakfast with Karly, the two of you went back to the condo, assuming that the guys were done with whatever they were doing on the water, the two of you put on your swimsuits and went out back. 

“So, are we going to discuss the topic at hand?” Karly asked, watching as the boys brought the boat back towards the deck and docked it. 

“There’s plenty of topics to go around, Karls, you need to be more specific,” you said, watching as Joel jumped off the boat, only to almost fall in moments later. 

“You’re literally looking at him right now, Sunshine.”

“I swear if anyone else heard you call me Sunshine and they even mention it, I will hurt you.”

“You wouldn’t hurt a pregnant woman,” Karly said, the words taking a moment to register for both of you. 

“Preg- Karly? Are you serious? You might want to talk to Teeks about protection,” you said, quickly. 

“Sunshine, we were trying for one, I promise,” Karly said, smiling growing on her face at your words. 

“Awe, oh my god, seriously?” 

“Yeah, yeah, we were going to tell you all later, but I was going to tell you separately so that way you didn’t get all pissy about it.”

“I wouldn’t have,” you said, rolling your eyes.

“You would have,” Karly watched as Travis walked closer to the two of you. 

“Travis, you have to remember to wrap it before you tap it,” you said, quietly.

“Wha-? Oh, I thought we were going to say something later?” Travis said to Karly. 

“It slipped out in a joke and I didn’t want her to get mad at us later,” Karly shrugged.

“Oh my god. Ok, if you have a boy, he can play hockey and if you have a girl, she can do gymnastics. Or ice skating, both are cool, I guess,” you rambled causing the couple in front of you to laugh. 

“Sunshine already has it all figured out,” Karly added, laughing as you sent her another glare. 

“Are we asking her now or later about the thing?” Travis said to Karly, as the pair exchanged a few words which only confused you even more. 

“Ask me what?” 

“We aren’t doing anything crazy for it, but we want to know if you want to be the baby’s godmother?” Karly asked, slowly.

“Wait, are you serious?” you waited for a laugh or any sign that they were joking, “oh my god, yeah, yeah. Of course. I’d love to.”

“Nolan already established he’s ‘Uncle Pat’, so if you want ‘Aunt Sunshine’ it’s available.”

You simply rolled your eyes in response, looking up towards the guys getting everything into the boat for the day, when your and Joel’s eyes met. “Oh, that’s the topic we wanted to discuss,” Karly said, “one, why was he in your bed this morning and two, did you actually tell him about the nightmares?”

“Uh, he got up and heard me in my room, woke me up, I told him I was having a nightmare, yada, yada, yade. I didn’t want to sleep alone, we talked about the nightmare, he was supposed to leave, but didn’t. So that is why he was in my bed this morning.”

“You haven’t even told Kev about the nightmares and you expect us to believe you aren’t falling for the kid,” Travis replied. 

“Yes, I do.” 

“y/n/n, seriously, he’s a good guy. I know you know that, but you are allowed to have something good in your life,” Travis said, softly.

You knew that the pair was right, the two of them wouldn’t lie to you, but right now there were a lot of things to consider. You were fine with how things were, but you knew the moment that anything got serious, you wouldn’t be able to. You couldn’t afford any more distractions right now, not when you were this close. 

There was something in you that agreed with your friends, you knew he was a good guy and you knew he would allow you to focus on yourself and your dreams. You knew that he would be your biggest supporter if you gave him the opportunity, but right now you weren’t sure if you should give him the opportunity. 

“Are you guys coming or what?” Kevin yelled towards the three of you, who swiftly made your way down onto the boat.

As soon as everyone settled onto the boat, Carter started the boat down the lake. Although you had basically been everywhere in the world, you never had the time to be able to take in your surroundings, having to always look at everything through tunnel vision. 

Eventually Carter stopped the boat, so that way whoever wanted to would be able to swim. Morgan and Joel were the first to jump into the water, the rest of the guys following suit, which left you and Karly on the boat. With the lack of sleep that you had the night before, you knew that if you honestly tried you would be able to fall asleep. 

Laying down and listening to the music playing, you didn’t realize that someone had gotten out of the water until you felt a droplet of water fall on you. “Are you really about to go to sleep right now?”

“Well, I’m trying to, but someone is talking to me,” you stated, finally opening your eyes to the man towering over you, avoiding glancing down at his bare chest. 

“C’mon, babe, you’ll have plenty of time to catch up on sleep once we get back. I’ll even join you again, if you want me to,” you could see the smirk growing on his face. 

“I don’t want to go into the water, Bee,” you said, closing your eyes once again. 

“Alright, fine,” he replied and you assumed he went back in the water, but when you felt him pick you up bridal style, you knew what was coming. 

“Farabee, put me down. I swear to god,” you shrieked. 

“C’mon, Princess, it’ll be fun.” 

“No, me going to sleep seems a lot more fun,” you watched as Joel stood on the edge of the boat, seeing the amused faces of your friends as you tried to get out of his grip, “Farabee, put me down.” 

His smirk only grew, “alright, babe. If you say so.” Before you could even react, Joel had tossed you out towards the water. 

“Farabee, I swear, you’re dead,” you said, swimming towards the ladder.

“Awe, babe. It’s fine, Morgan already has my funeral speech ready,”Joel said, watching as you started climbing up the ladder. He smirked as you purposely bumped into him, back to where you sat before. 

He watched as your hands wrapped at the bottom hem of your tank top, pulling it over your head to reveal a red swimsuit top. You laughed as you watched his smirk drop. You then pulled the waistband of your shorts to show the black, high-waisted bottoms you had on. 

“The tension,” Karly whispered over to Travis as the pair watched the exchange, “damn, y/n/n, you look hot, babe.” 

“Thanks, Karls,” you smirked once you finally looked toward Joel again, “hey, Bee, you might want to close your mouth or else you’ll catch flies.”

“You’re doing this on purpose,” he exclaimed.

“Yeah, well, karma's a bitch, babe,” you said, which caused him to roll his eyes. 

“I’ll remember that. I will remember that.” 

The day at the lake went on, the group spending some time in the water, but most of it was spent just relaxing on the boat. “Who all wants something to drink?” Kevin asked, reaching into the cooler. The guys all raised their hand for beers, while you and Karly asked for a capri sun. 

“I’m used to y/n/n not getting anything to drink, but Karly? Did Teeks finally knock you up or something?” Kevin unknowingly asked, only earning a silence from the couple he was questioning, “oh?”

“Yeah, we’re going to have a baby,” Travis said, smiling.

“Travis, oh my god, you’re pregnant. Awe, you can already see a bump,” Morgan said, only earning him a knock upside the head. 

“No, dipshit,” Travis rolled his eyes as everyone around you laughed. 

“Oh my god, Teeks, when is the baby due? And it’s okay, you don’t have to show us the bump or anything right now, we understand,” Carter added, which only added fuel to the ongoing laughs. 

“See, kids, this is why we use protection, alright,” Kevin sighed. 

As the group continued talking, you made your way over to the cooler to get you another Capri Sun, you made your way back to where you sat before, only to be pulled into Joel’s lap. “Bee, whatcha doing?” 

“I just wanted to sit next to you,” he said, softly. You adjusted yourself on his lap to where you were angled to the side, your legs draped over his, still involved in the conversation in front of you. Once you had gotten comfortable, you felt Joel’s arm wrapped around you as one of his hands came in contact with your thigh. 

As heat rushed up to your face, you looked up to see Karly sending you a knowing look, while Kevin was glaring daggers into Joel’s head. As the conversation went on, you started to feel tired again and decided to lay your head on his shoulder, he found one of the blankets that had been brought and placed it over the two of you. 

You didn’t know when sleep overcame you once again, but you did feel the boat stop and the feeling of being carried, you were just too tired to open your eyes. Eventually, you felt the feeling of being set on your bed. “C’mon, babe, I know you don’t want to, but you need to at least change into something more comfortable,” Joel said, grabbing you a sleep shirt and shorts from your bag.

“Thanks, Bee.”

“Goodnight, y/n/n, sleep well,” and with that he was out of your room. As you got ready for bed, there was something telling you to knock on his door and lay down with him, you shouldn’t have. This internal debate you had going on with whatever you and Joel had was, wasn’t healthy for you - part of you wanted to give in and just enjoy the way that he made you feel, while the other was telling you to run from whatever it was. 

As you tried to go back asleep, you just couldn’t. At this point, you weren’t sure what was going on with your sleep schedule, but there was only one thing that had helped you actually go to sleep and he was next door. 

As quietly as possible, you took the short trek across from your door to his. “y/n/n, you okay?” you heard, softly from across the room. 

“Um, yeah. I just couldn’t sleep.”

“Babe, you just going to stand there? Or are you going to close the door and come to bed?” you didn’t even have to see his face to know that he was smirking, as you finally closed the door and made your way over to him, laying the same way that you had the night before, as both of you finally fell asleep. 

With there not being any plan for the third day at the lake, you all had decided to simply have a movie night and whatever you did during the day was your choice. You woke up still in Joel’s arms with him asleep beside you, only throughout the night he ended up laying on your chest with his arms around you. Reaching for your phone, you saw a few texts from Karly with pictures of you and Joel at the lake that you might have saved to your camera roll a little bit too quickly. 

Once you felt Joel stir from beside you, you knew that it wouldn’t be long until he was up. You assumed that he would get up and make you get out of bed, so that neither of you would get caught, but when he somehow pulled you closer to him, you were shocked. “Good morning,” his morning voice rang out. 

“Good morning,” you said, softly, starting to play with his hair. 

“I could get used to you doing that all the time.”

“What? Playing with your hair?” you said, which earned a hum in response from him, “your hair is just really soft.” 

“Yeah, I know.”

“I didn’t know someone could be that cocky about how soft his hair is.”

“When your hair is as soft as mine, then you can talk to me,” he mumbled.

As much as you loved this feeling, everything was starting to get too real for you. You were starting to crave the affection that he was giving you and you missed him when he wasn’t close to you. And you were starting to fall for him and that scared you more than you wanted to admit. 

“What’s going on in that pretty little head of yours?” Joel asked, pulling you away from your thoughts. 

“Oh, it’s nothing,” you said simply, which only caused Joel’s brows to furrow.

“Look, you don’t have to talk to me if you don’t want to, but it’s fairly obvious something is going on. Did you have another nightmare or something?”

You stayed silent, pondering if maybe you should tell him that ‘whatever this is can’t progress to anything serious because I can’t have any distractions and I’m already starting to fall for you, so I should stop while I’m ahead’. You couldn’t. You already would hurt him when you did tell him, but now wasn’t the time for this. “I’m just worried about gym, that’s all.”

“Hey, look, I might not know much about the sport of gymnastics, but I do know for a fact that there is no way that you aren’t going to be able to achieve your dream. The Olympic People or whoever the fuck is in charge, would be really stupid not to take you on the Olympic team,” he said, looking you in your eyes before softly pushing off of you, “I have to go take a shower, but I’ll find you later.” 

He was not making this any easier.

At this point you didn’t know what to do, so you went to the one person you knew would be able to help you out here. Quietly knocking on the door, Travis was the one to open the door, “what do you want shortstack?” 

“I need to talk to Karly about something,” you said, earning an eye roll from Travis as he moved so you could get through his door. 

“Hey, hun. Everything okay?” Karly asked, sitting up in her bed. You quickly joined her on Travis’ side, which earned yet another eye roll from him as he sat down on what was left of his side. 

“I don’t know what to do.”

“In terms of what?”

“Bee.”

“I figured. But what’s going on?” Karly asked, calmly.

“I swear if he did something to you, I will ruin his career,” Travis grumbled from beside you as he scrolled on his phone. 

“Thanks Teeks, but I don’t think that’ll be necessary. I, um, I don’t know how to tell him that what’s going on can’t move past what it is now,” you said, your eyes trained on your hands. 

The couple beside you shared a knowing look at each other,“ok, why can’t it move on?” Travis asked simply. 

“Because I can’t be distracted by anything right now,” you said, softly. 

“Is that it?” Karly asked.

“I don’t- I don’t know at this point,” you sighed, staring at the girl who had become like an older sister to you,”I’m falling for him.”

“Oh, she finally admits it,” Travis mumbled. 

“Shut up, Teeks. Look, y/n/n, I’ve known you quite a while and I’ve seen your habits over the years. So, I’m going to ask a quick question,” Karly waited for a nod from you before continuing, “why does falling for Bee scare you?”

“Um, it doesn’t, but somehow it does? I don’t know. It’s not scary, it’s just,” you sighed,”look, Bee is this amazing person and I want him to be happy, but I know that if this does continue right now and I don’t make it to the Olympics, I’m going to be a wreck. I can’t do it with distractions.”

“You know, considering how much you overwork yourself, it might be a good thing to have healthy distractions,” Travis added, “plus, not to invalidate what you’re saying, but everything you have going on in your life is a distraction. You have Kathryn, life in general, media always wanting something from you. I feel like there’s more to it.”

You knew Travis was right, but him pressing the topic didn’t make it easier, “I’m scared that’ll go wrong. Or that I run him off. Or media does something. Or-”

“So, the distractions in your life are what have you worried, is what I’m hearing?” Karly added. 

“Well, I guess. Not necessarily, but sure.” 

“So, you need a healthy distraction?” Travis asked. 

“Yeah?”

“There you go. There’s your answer. Now, Sunshine, stop letting your fear of everything going wrong get in the way,” Karly said. You knew the two of them had a point, but you still weren’t sure what to do about it. 

When you had finished talking to them, you decided you should take some time to think about everything, alone. You made your way back to your room after getting a snack to eat, but just as you were about to go into your room, the bathroom door opened, revealing Joel just with a towel around his waist. 

“Hey, princess,” he smirked as he saw your reaction, “you might want to close your mouth, you might catch flies.”

“Ok, to avoid any disagreements, we are drawing names for who gets to choose the movie. We are only watching two, but only the first one is mandatory,” Kevin explained. 

“Why is he in charge?” Nolan said, which everyone nodded in agreement to. 

“Because I’m the adult here and you guys can’t make a rational decision to save your life.”

“He’s not wrong, but it’s still kinda wack,” you whispered to Joel, who was sitting next to you. 

“Alright, Karly, you get to pick the movie,” Kevin said. 

“Ok, sweet. Um, Tangled,” Karly said, choosing her go to movie, which caused almost all the guys to groan. The fact that most of the guys groaned made you laugh when you noticed how into the movie they got, all of them crying when Flynn died - which you and Karly were quick to get videos of. 

“Oh my god, why couldn’t he have given Rapunzel a better haircut though?” Carter asked. 

“I’ve always thought that, but I mean in the animated series her hair grows back,” you said, shrugging.

“It grows back?” Morgan questioned, quickly, “I’m going to bed, so that I can binge watch the series, goodnight.” 

“Alright, well. Who’s all staying for a second movie?” Kevin asked, laughing when you and Joel were the only ones to raise your hands, “alright, easy enough.” 

Everyone else said their goodnights and went to bed, leaving you and Joel on your own. “Want to watch High School Musical 2 with me?” you asked, quietly. 

“Yeah, of course.”

As the movie went on, Joel’s hand had somehow made its way back to your thigh like the day prior, except now he was inching it up more, “Bee, you better watch yourself.”

“I am, I am. If you tell me to stop, I will,” Joel whispered as he leaned in to press a kiss to your neck, “all you have to do is say the word and I’ll leave you alone.” His lips made their way up towards your jaw, pressing a light kiss behind your ear, causing your breath to hitch, “how’s the movie, y/n/n?” 

“It’s- yeah, it’s great. 10/10 would recommend,” you sighed. 

“Oh, really? Alright,” he said, before turning back to the tv, causing you to gasp at his actions. 

“Yeah, no, that’s not what’s going to happen,” you said, quickly, before bringing your leg over his to straddle him. When you looked at him, you could only see the smirk on his face, “you’re annoying.”

“Yeah, but-,” you interrupted him when your lips met his. You were only digging a deeper hole than you were already in, this was getting too close. The flirting wasn’t ideal, but it was fine. Maybe sleeping in the same bed wasn’t the wisest decision, but you had a nightmare and couldn’t sleep. But kissing him was going too far. Your lips eventually moved away from his and towards his neck, lightly sucking to leave some visible marks, “babe, you’re going to get us in trouble.”

“Yolo,” you said, repeating the words he had said earlier. 

“I don’t know if now is the right time to ask this, but what are we?” you stopped your actions, visibly tensing at the sound of the question you were dreading, “y/n?”

“Yeah, um,” you sighed, “you’re my cousin’s teammate that I’m friends with and I’m your teammate’s cousin.” Wrong answer. Wrong answer. 

“That’s- that’s all we are to you? Seriously?”

“Well, you never clarified otherwise. So, we’re just friends.”

“Friends?” he asked, which you simply nodded,”y/n, that makes no sense. We literally just kissed. We flirt. We- we legit fell asleep next to each other these past few nights and you want to say we’re just friends?”

You wanted to fight this. Fight for whatever was going on, but something in you was telling you to just leave it be, so you did. Keeping your eyes trained on the ground and your voice as monotone as you could, “Look, Farabee. Tonight shouldn’t have happened, the flirting is just for fun, and you were just there when I had a nightmare.”

Joel looked as if he wanted to say something more. His mouth opening and closing, as his face seemed to go through all the stages of grief in one second, “look me in the eye and tell me that, or else I’m just going to assume this has to do with everything in your life.”

You visibly gulped, raising your eyes towards his,”we’re just friends, Joel.”

Joel. His name against your tongue, leaving a sour taste. 

“Fine, that’s what you want. Alright, y/n,” he said, not meeting your eyes, before retreating back to his room.

You quickly turned off the movie and slowly made your way back to your room. You knew that tonight if you couldn’t sleep, you wouldn’t have him to go to.

As the morning finally came, you knew you needed to check if he was okay, it was the least you could do. So, you hesitantly went over to his room, knocking to make sure it was okay. But when you didn’t get an answer, you just decided to walk in, but you were met with an empty room. 

Practically running back towards the kitchen, you saw Nolan and Kevin talking in the kitchen. “Where’s Bee?” 

Kevin and Nolan exchanged looks you couldn’t exactly read, “uh, Beezer and Frost left this morning.”

“What?”

“Yeah, Joel was in a hurry and said he needed to leave, so Frost took him home,” Nolan added cautiously. Neither Kevin or Nolan knew what had happened, but it had to have happened sometime last night and you were the only person he was with last night. 

The pair watched as your breathing quickened, frantically looking around for something to latch onto, “I fucked up. Oh my god.”

“y/n/n, you need to breathe, okay? Can you do that for me?” Kevin motioned for you to inhale and exhale with him, but the commotion of what had happened drew the attention of Karly and Travis. 

“What the fuck happened?” Travis asked, quietly.  

“I-I messed things up. Me and him were fine and then, I messed it up.” 

“How’d you mess it up?” Karly asked, softly.

“I got scared and ran.”

Marjan lets out a giggle that she tries to cover with her hand, it’s high-pitched and adorable and makes TK grin. He turns his head to look back at the boys still in the middle of their challenge; his smile grows when he catches Carlos’ eyes, grinning at him as he pulls himself up again.

“He’s gorgeous,” Marjan continues, agreeing with him. “But what’s really great about him is how happy he makes you. It’s such a difference.”

Day 3 - The Last of the Romantics - 1.5K

Michelle has a history of setting Carlos up with the worse guys possible, she swears this time it's different.

Day 7 - of chicken flautas and intimidating mothers - 1.8K

“I know we saw each other just last night, but I already missed you.”

Carlos' heart flutters at TK’s words and touch, but he can’t forget the tiny force to be reckoned with, not forty feet away. “That’s really sweet, and I feel exactly the same way,” he continues. “But my mom is here, and she’s watching us – no, don’t look around!”

It’s the annual first responders’ cookout and Carlos is about to introduce his boyfriend to his mother.

Day 8 - Let's Start with Breakfast - 2.1K

“Hi, you must be TK,” he says, turning around to face him fully, and TK doesn’t know where to look – that beautiful face with a head full of curls he wants to sink his hands into, or the perfectly chiseled chest that reminds TK of studying about Michelangelo’s David in his art studies course. “I’m Carlos.”

Day 9 - Midnight Talk about Boys - 1.8K

Marjan watches as whatever the other person on the phone – obviously someone TK is seeing – talks to him, whatever the other man is saying makes TK all but melt into the cushions of the couch as he leans back and stares dreamily at the ceiling.

Day 10 - Let's Go to the Mall - 2.4K

While at the mall, TK finds a little girl crying because she can't find her mother and uncle. Imagine TK's surprise when her uncle turns out to be his boyfriend.

Day 11 - The Forever Tamales - 4.0K

“Marriage Tamales?” he asks, confused, his heart ticking upward as the sisters nod and smirk at him and Carlos.

They start to explain the significance of the special dish. Every word they utter makes his heart race as he tries to come to terms with the fact that Carlos made him a dish so important to his family.

Day 12 - Stumbling a Step - 2.2K

The drive to work is quiet, out of the corner of his eye he sees Carlos grip the steering wheel a little harder as the car comes to a stop in front of the firehouse.

“I have a long shift today,” he says, his tone stiff. “I won’t be home until after midnight.”

TK looks over at his boyfriend; it’s the first thing Carlos has said since their shout out the night before.

“Good morning, Carlos,” he greets him calmly. Like this is a regular occurrence for them to run into each other outside his bathroom, and instead, not the first time ever that Carlos has spent the night in his house.

They get called to a standoff situation in a laboratory building downtown. TK is in the middle of helping create a perimeter with Paul when he hears a familiar voice over the radio and realizes with a sense of dread that it’s not just Austin Police that is inside, but it’s also his boyfriend of five months, Carlos.

Not gonna lie, it's been a rough month for me. Probably the hardest month on my life. I went through finals not knowing if I was going to pass my classes or not. Never in my life have I been that afraid to fail a class, and I don't think I've ever been closer. But once my toughest week finals was done I had a sense of relief. Pass or fail it was over, but my troubles had only began. I came home to find out that my dog Pelé, that I've raised since his birth had fell really ill while I was taking finals. My parents were smart enough not to tell me until I got home. He's been my best friend since I was 9 years old, and to see him being weak and barely able to stand hit me hard. He was in such sad shape, my mom and I had to hand feed him food, otherwise he wouldn't eat. We found out later that he had two types of anemia. One where his bones did not produce enough red blood cells and another where his immune system attacked his red blood cells. When we brought home to the animal hospital he was nearly dead. His red blood cell count was at 6% when it should be anywhere between 30% and 50%. If we had taken him a day later he wouldn't of made it. After a blood transfusion, a diagnosis, and a prescription of a shit ton of pills (all of which costed $1500) he was nearly back to his old self. Even though he was looking better I knew that he didn't have too much time left. I thought he would pass after I left back for school. Now before I complete Pelé's story lets talk about what happened the day after I got back home. I woke up that morning and everything was totally normal when my mom received a call. It was really quiet for a second and then I heard a very panicked "oh shit". Turns out my grandmother of 88 years old fell and broke her hip. Now for someone who is in their early twenties or teens like I assume most people reading this are, a broken hip isn't a huge deal. Yeah it hurts like hell, but we will make it no problem. When you get to your elder years you become more susceptible to things like infection, and you heal a LOT slower. These were things I didn't think about at the time. When my dad was leaving to check on his mother being transported to the hospital, I saw him cry...like way more than I've seen him do in a long ass time. My mom told me right afterwards that his grandmother died from an infection that was made possible by her breaking her hip. Note that great grandma died after I was born, and 90s medical knowledge was definitely capable of treating such a thing. But when you are 93 there is only so much you can do. It then dawned on me that my grandmother was in a lot of danger. After a surgery and some PT she got sent home where she is today. We are just hoping to God that she doesn't fall again, but knowing her and how stubborn she is, she probably will from not using her walker that the Physical Trainer fucking taught her to do. I just don't know if she can make it through another one. Now note that all that went on at the same time that Pelé was having issues and it happened around this holiday season. I love this time of year but it's hard to be jolly when you don't know if the the people you love will live to see Christmas or New Years. I was really afraid of the holidays being a downer for me for the rest of my life. The one time of year where I can relax and enjoy the people around me crowded by thoughts of loss and death. Thankfully that didn't entirely happen. After the visit to the vet Pelé started to improve. He had more energy and he was actually eating on his own! He still wasn't completely himself, but it was much better than how he was before. A week after the initial visit to the doggy hospital we went to have more blood work done to see if his medicine was working. It turned out that it had been working quite well. He still wasn't at optimal with his scores, but he was improving a lot. Not even a week later Pelé started to act weird. He acted like he hurt his leg. It was like he couldn't use it to walk. We thought it might of be sore from the vet drawing blood from him so we didn't think too much of it. On the day after New Years I woke up with my mom laying on the couch beside Pelé. This wasn't weird because the medicine he was taking caused him to use the bathroom a lot so my mom would sleep beside him to let him out every few hours. She told me that he wasn't eating much of all and I noticed that he didn't even try to look up at me. I had to bring my self to his level for him to do so. I left that morning to my GF's house hoping that he would improve. Not even 2 hours later my mom calls Cameryn (my GF) crying on the phone. Pelé had suffered a really harsh seizure and wasn't hardly responding to anything. She told Cam to drive me to the vets office where we would meet them. She called Cam because she knew that I was going to drive like hellfire to get to him if she called me. On the way to the vet with tears in my eyes and a hyperventilating voice I told Cameryn "this is it...I'm losing my dog today". My mom and my neighbor TK got to the vet same time me and Cam did. TK is a good friend of ours and he had to lift up Pelé because my mom just couldn't do it. When we got out of our cars my mom and I walked towards each other, and I have never seen her face so red. I could tell she had been crying hard since it happened. I asked her if he was always gone and he wasn't. TK went to grab him and I couldn't hardly watch. I never wanted to see Pelé like that, but I had to be there for him. We brought him in and he wasn't moving. He was breathing and his eyes were open but he wasn't moving. My mom and I were wrecks. My mom was trying to tell doctor Allen what happened and she barely got though it. Not long after we had been there he started to seize again. All of us took a hand in holding him still while he was being given a sedative to knock him unconscious so that he wouldn't seize. The entire time his body was uncontrollably shaking I was losing it. I didn't hold back my emotions. I was watching my best friend die in my arms in one of the ugliest ways possible. The table was covered in piss, drool, fur, and blood and so were my sleeves minus the blood. He seized one more time before my dad showed up. He drove an hour and a half from my grandparents place to our hometown. He was with them to get them reacquainted with home. After the 3rd seizure Dr. Allen gave him s really strong sedative that knocked him out quick. When dad showed up Pelé was asleep, but not even a minute after him arriving Pelé seized again. Note that I don't see my dad cry very often let alone ugly cry, but he did right there in that vet office on that foggy and rainy day. Allen explained to us that it was a neurological infection on the brain that was causing the seizures. It makes sense that an infection grew, because Pelé's meds caused his immune system to be less effective. It had to in order for him to fight the anemia. Pelé was dealt one of the shittiest hands as far as physical health goes. He was being attacked on three fronts. We had the option to try using strong antibiotics on him, but it wasn't guaranteed too work and we didn't know how much damage the infection had already done. I would say that I was a tough choice to have him pass, but there really wasn't much of a choice in the eyes of me and my parents. We couldn't stand to watch him suffer anymore. We had done all that we could do. When Pelé was being put down I wanted to stay in the room with him until the bitter end, but as soon as his body had a natural convulsion I lost my fucking mind and barged through everyone and to door to get out. I was already traumatized by the seizures, and the to have my final moments with him being him twitching and pissing everywhere made me go mad. Looking back on it I've never cried that hard in my entire life. It wasn't even loud. I could hardly breath, everything hurt, and and I wanted to vomit. TK came out and talked to me trying to calm me down. After a minute or two I mustered all that I could to go back and be with Pelé. As soon as I got to the table that he was on he completely passed. To this day it doesn't seem real. It doesn't seem real that he isn't breathing any more or in my hallway right now at 4 AM sleeping. My parents and I held each other long and hard. It was like we lost a member of the family. Our family of 4 was now a trio and it tore us up. When Dr. Allen brought the cardboard coffin into the room I told them I was going to put him in there. I wanted to truly be there from his beginning to his end. I lifted his still warm limp furry body and laid him gingerly into the box as if he were still alive. My final image of him was his body curled up as though he was cold and asleep while in that cardboard box. I rubbed his head and belly one last time and said, "goodbye old buddy. I'm gonna miss you". We carted him off back home and buried him in my parent's backyard with a circle of rocks indicating where he permanently lays. It's been almost a week and I still get teary eyed every time I look at his grave through our kitchen window. What really gets me though is the little things. Me being at home has totally changed. I don't have to watch out for him when I get up off of furniture. I don't have to fill his water or food bowl any more. His metal dog tags don't wake me up in the middle of the night. I don't hear his claws scratch against the hardwood floor. But what gets me the most is that I won't see that happy black and white face through our glass door to greet me when I come home. I will never see that dopey smile ever again and I am losing it typing that thought out right now. The morning after he died I found my mother laying on the couch red faced again but asleep and covered in a tiny blanket. Her and I cried a lot that day. And the next day. Even my dad is taking it just as hard as us. He gets hit hard by the door greeting thing too. I've never seen my parents hysterically sad before, and i never thought it would be over a dog. Now looking on it though, Pelé was like another child to them. After I left for college that's all they had. For 4 years he was it. He was their kid... Death is an ugly fucking thing, and you don't know how it will be ugly when someone you know goes, but what out shines the ugliness is the beauty of life. It's hard not to think of my last moments with Pelé. The images haunt me everyday, but I have to look at the beautiful life he live with me and my parents. I have to remember that we gave him a great life and in turn he vastly improved mine. He help me though a lot of hard times. I just wish he was here to do so one last time. He truly was my best friend.

California Knows How To Party ...

This past week I spent time down in Southern California with my family. I road tripped down with my sister and her family to visit my brother and sister-in-law, spend time on the beach, celebrate Independence Day and even spend a day at the San Diego Zoo.

It was a much needed break.

Much, much needed.

I pretty much Instagrammed the whole vacation and I thought I’d share the experience in a short little post with some of my favorite highlights. And, of course, I was able to find a race while I was down there — so it’s completely relevant to the blog.

Then again — this is my blog and I’d share this post with you whether or not I ran while on vacation. Anyways, enjoy the pictures. I’m grateful for the break, but I’m ready to get back to work. I’ve got some goals and directions I’ll share later this week.

Maybe it’s because I’ve been hypnotized too many times. But, I completely zonked out in the middle of an hour long full body massage — LIKE COMPLETELY — and my little Thai lady couldn’t wake me, so she had a coworker help wake me.
