when it comes to emotional shit:

i think that she goes to him for hugs. he really tries to be a good listener but he chimes in quite often, and he's uncomfy with giving advice. but he can always tell when she came to him for a hug and not to hang out. she has on multiple occasions walked into peter and scotts dorm and not said anything. and scott is just like "hey ororo." and she doesn't respond, and he's like wtf, as he often is. and peter just walks over and hugs her, and shes like "thanks" and waLKS AWAY. and it baffles scott. peter's always just like 🧍‍♂️ 🤷‍♂️. "what. do you want a hug?" "pppppffffttttt, NO." "jesus christ scott don't get your dick in a twist."

and he goes to her if he needs someone to listen and go "fuck yeah you're right" and nod

i don't have to elaborate any more because we have same brain

Jean and Peter:

at first they ✨hate eachother✨

ok not HATE

but jean tries to be nice to him directly after the whole "i'm your- i'm here for my family too" deal

so he was disappointed in himself

therefore very grumpy

and he was mean to her

so she stopped talking to him

and he was embarrassed that he acted out towards her

so he just pestered her

because he is 12 and doesn't know how to say "i actually want to be friends, because scott cares about you a shit ton and if you're important to my family then you're important to me, and you must be pretty fuckin' cool. i'm sorry so many of the students are spooked by you- but you can talk to me about it if you need someone to talk to. people felt the same way about my sister and she says i'm good to talk to. i'm sorry i was an asshole when we first met."

so the first time he sees an opening to make amends

is after he messed with scott

and then suddenly they were together alone in a room

and he didn't know what to do

so he was just like... "do you want some weed?"

and first she was no! in her head. BUT- this boy who has been nothing but purposefully annoying to her just offered her his version of a peace offering.

so she says yes

and he's like "really?"

"... yeah?"

and so ✨weed✨ like once

and then? friends!

emotional shit:

at first peter goes to her when he needs someone who will take him seriously

and she is always determined to

and he has a hard time articulating his feelings u know

and is about to just give up when shes like "can i?" and points to his head

peter is just "??????? OH SHIT RIGHT you read minds"

and at first she is lowkey offended he didn't remember what her powers were, but then she realized how relieving it was to have a friend who wasn't ever thinking about/ talking about her powers. someone who didn't give a shit about how powerful she was, and didn't think her capable of anything dangerous.

ANYWAY she read his mind and he asks for advice and jean's advice slaps

and the first time she confides in him is when there is literally no one else around

and she wants advice

the thing about peter is that she can only read his mind purposefully because whenever it happens accidentally all she hears is bbbbbbbbbbbbbzzzzzzzzzzz

so he was unpredictable, because she

didn't think similar to him

couldn't subconsciously read his mind/wouldn't read someones mind without their permission

she didn't know him super well

so she confides in him about how sometimes when younger students walk by, she can hear their fear. their fear directed towards her. and other stuff like that.

and she asks him for advice

and he thinks long and hard while they sit there in silence, because he's shit of thinking at advice

and suddenly he talks very loudly and abruptly

"COOKIES." "... what."

and she's like- ok so asking him for advice was a terrible idea

but then

"no, ok that sounds silly, but listen. you could make cookies and give them out. people love cookies, and lee makes fucking fantastic ones! i would help but i'm not allowed to use the oven anymore after the firework incident."

"who's lee?"

"jubilee. i'm sorry- i drop the words 'firework incident' and 'oven' in the same sentence and you ask who lee is?"

"i've always called her jubilee, jubes, even jubilation! i've just never called her lee."

silence

"so you're not going to ask me about the fireworks."

"do you want me to ask you about the fireworks?"

"you're fucking crazy. you're an insane person."

"jeez! ok! what was the firework thing about?"

"no."

"what??"

"no! you don't get to hear about the firework incident! you're only asking because i want you to. and you're not asking because you want to because you're crazy."

"thanks for the advice. i might actually try that. i'll be sure not to put fireworks in them."

"ok, ha ha, i'll see you tomorrow."

then he just WOOSHES AWAY

and shes like "cookies, huh."

jean and peter's friendship only means so much to me is because ✨juxtaposition✨ you know and scott and peter are fannon besties and wouldn't that make her knocking him out be so angsty and not just so that the writers can about erik and peter having to interact anyway bye bestie :))))

COMIC TEA PARTY- THURSDAY BOOK CLUB START!

Good evening, everyone~! This week’s Thursday Book Club is officially beginning! Today we are discussing Inhibit by Eve Greenwood / evegwood~! (http://www.inhibitcomic.com/)

Remember that Thursday discussions are completely freeform! However, every 30 minutes I will drop in OPTIONAL discussion questions in case you’d like a bit of a prompt. If you miss out on one of these prompts, you can find them pinned for the chat’s duration. Additionally, remember that while constructive criticism is allowed, our focus is fun and respectfully appreciating the comic. All that said, let’s begin!

QUESTION 1. What is your favorite scene in the comic so far and why?

there are many great scenes, but i am particularly fond of victor in the parking garage. specifically, i enjoy the unfolding of events once masha joins the party. i love the fact that victor freezes up and just flat out doesnt know what to do. not only does this fit with his character, but i actually think its refreshing for a protagonist with powers to still just be a regular person deep down who does not have the required training to deal with that sort of situation. not to mention i love seeing paulina's powers in action

Agreed! The garage is one of my favorites too. I love how Paulina is breaking rules left and right- not just laws (lol) but all the concepts that have been established so far about how powers are supposed to work. I really want to figure out what's going on(edited)

or is she breaking laws? as in the powers. obviously shes breaking the other sorts of laws like dont set ppls property on fire. but i will save theories on the powers for a bit later. i do enjoy that she throws a wrench already into what's established. tho i felt bad for victor that nobody is listening to him.

another scene ive been enjoying is the current flashback where victor is a bouncy child. mostly because i love how excited about everything victor is. like wanting explosions just cause its cool. and i think its just this real contrast that builds tension for the narrative since youre like "victor man what happened O_O"

yeah my heart really hurts for him. because ive been in that position of sitting there constantly trying to tell someone something and then being ignored.

although i really think ppl need to learn moderation in regards to their expectations for victor most of all

cause it seems like ppl either 1) expect nothing from victor and think hes a loser or 2) pull a nate and expect victor to auto be this extremely capable person despite not having trained for anything in years

another scene that i enjoy was when julia, david, and victor snuck back in to the building to eavesdrop. on a technical level i liked the writing for it because it was a scene that moved the plot along but also served to show off the relationship dynamics that exist between those specific characters. so as a narrative construct everything in that scene felt like it had purpose to one end or the other.

QUESTION 2. Victor has been shown to be a drastically different person than he was in his youth. What is the past incident that several characters bring up that apparently resulted in a trial and inevitably got Victor kicked out of Urquhart? What does it have to do with Masha, and do you think Julia was involved somehow considering she’s also at Earl Estate? Is it the reason Nate and Victor’s relationship soured as well? Do you believe the incident is what changed Victor so much, or is it several aspects of his life? Do you think any of this has something to do with why Victor has failed to improve at Earl Estate? Also, why do you believe Victor’s inhibitors are now failing him so badly? Lastly, do you believe his missions with Nate will have an effect on Victor’s personality? How so?

well considering adult victor has some issue controlling his powers when hes emotional, im gonna assume something of that nature happened. potentially maybe to that bully who keeps picking on young masha. cause i feel like victor is gonna stand up to them or attempt to and get mad and then accidentally severely injure them or something. idk about julia being involved

tho looking back it looks like she has all her fingers as a child

as for nate and victor's relationship souring, i think theres more at work than just this incident. i kind of get the impression that nate just kind of likes taking things out on victor even when everything has nothing to do with victor. but i think basically all this crap combined to shake victor's confidence and that's a large reason hes not improving. cause he just has no reason to be confident anymore.

I think Vic's self worth has been raised into a precarious position thanks to being a gifted (in this case- super powered) child, and with how much his spark-outs are emphasized through the whole comic, something terrible must have happened with a spark and that lack of control was touted against him, which makes it near impossible to repair his self esteem

yes definitely all that. cause i feel by and large that victor has just given up on himself. which tbf i dont blame him cause literally nobody is doing anything to help really. like theres not a truly positive influence. although to nate's credit i guess he's trying? just ya know, in a super bad way

As for Julia, I suspect she gave herself frostbite? Noor is very strict about Julia forming ice around her limbs, and she must have been moved to Earl for a similar outburst of her own powers

tbh i think julia has more control of her powers. from the impression i get anyway. i kind of think julia is just reckless and doesnt think her actions through. though i mean might of been an outburst too. i could really go either way. and maybe its both.

though frostbite is way more tame than what i was thinking happened XD

i was picturing more encasing an ice and then shattering said ice

idk i agree and disagree. its good for him to get out and socialize, but im not sure the ppl around him are well-suited to kind of give him teh space he needs.

QUESTION 3. Victor’s life changes a lot when he’s forced to join Nate’s team. Why do you think Nate is so vehement about having Victor as a temporary member on his team? Is he honestly just trying to help Victor, or is there is some other hidden reason? What did you think the way the retrievals were handled says about the world and its view on Variants? How might the first mission change Victor’s perspective on Variants and how they’re treated (if at all)? How will it affect how Victor deals with other team missions and/or the course of the story? Lastly, do you believe that Victor will be able to makes amends and bond with the team, or will he continue to be chastised and treated somewhat lesser?

The way that variants are trained at places like Urq and Miller to almost solely police their own community is disturbing. Vic wants no part of it and it's perfectly understandable

Variants are monitored so closely through their whole lives. it's invasive.

yeah. and i mean...theres a degree i want to be understanding. i would not want untrained variants just walking around causing accidents and such. cause theyve shown that their powers can be damaging not just to others but themselves and also all the property around them. so i can understand that variants kind of need a special thing going on for everyone's protection

but man do those places feel like prison

like when you cant even let someone's mom see their kid off

In that kind of environment a variant is pressured to do whatever they can to appear trustworthy. Even if Nate is trying to help Vic out I think he's ultimately trying to make himself look better by helping Vic succeed

that could be although i feel theres easier ways then making under the table secret deals. tho tbh i think theres a mix going on here. like i think nate does want to help victor and wants to see him succeed. but i also feel like nate isnt altruistic either. more like he wants to help victor cause he feels like victor is his one failure that he cant leave to continue to be a failure just for the sake of his own pride.

yeah and this is kind of an extreme case of needing to be successful by 30. cause in this case its kind of true in a way. since im sure if youre a variant the powers are kind of part of who you are. but by 30 you lose that and essentially have to redefine who you are as a person. and i think thats more true with the way their system is set up since their glorified prisons are so life encompassing.

QUESTION 4. Inadvertently, Victor becomes involved with a dangerous arsonist named Paulina. What do you think Paulina’s powers are? Is she a pyro as many believe, or is there something funky going on with her powers like Victor believes? Why do you believe Paulina attacked Miller, and why do you think she’s so desperately looking for Chalice? Where do you think Paulina even came from given she isn’t declaring any facility as her origin? Why, of all people, do you think Paulina went to Victor specifically for help? Given Victor gets Julia involved, how might the residents of Earl Estate affect Victor helping Paulina or not? In general, do you believe Victor will help Paulina or not, and how will this choice affect the rest of the story?

idk. i mean its certainly possible. but im also willing to think that she has one power that doesnt fit any of the predefined powers the world established. so like shes a new variant type. or that she knows how to use her pyro powers in a way that nobody thought possible

im just more willing to error on the side of it still fitting in with established laws and we just dont get the full picture yet

i kind of get the impression that paulina didnt come from any facility but instead has been living and training outside the system. cause we dont really know the process by which the facilities collect variants in the first place. like obviously we see victor's mom bring victor. but like...was it the law? was it under threat hed be taken anyway? how did ppl know?(edited)

and without knowing these things i can think of a lot of reasons paulina just skirted by the system

I think inhibit really nails what it feels like to be pinned by the expectations put on you by all levels of society, but still allowing itself to breathe and be funny and so human

i think inhibit is a great story with memorable personalities. but most of all it has a relateable protagonist whose inner demons can speak to most ppl, and watching his journey is definitely probably something that will inspire hope

i haven’t really... written much on my canon divergence for months now & i feel if any times good, now would probably be one of the best times to do so.

a lot of my canon divergence comes from backstory: one day ( hopefully sooner than later ) hori’s gonna.... dump the truth that dabi is a todoroki / who touya is & what happened to him, along with the backstory & why things are so different for every character. im expecting this canon to be completely different to the one ive written before, but as it stands, i have a few key points my portrayal really runs through.

( this may be different or similar to my original draft ?? but this one is more ambiguous to what happens with dabi, because im worried people will feel trapped when plotting / doing whatever with me - i have different versions with different portrayals, after all. )

out of all his siblings, natsuo was closest to touya. due to endeavours refusal to let shouto interact with any of them, & fuyumi’s worrying / future it probably meant they didn’t have as much time together / natsuo viewed her as more of a mother than a friend. touya did play the fatherly role to natsuo for a lot of his younger years, but he was always someone who was there to have fun with, someone who could spend more & more time with him without having to tend to siblings wounds or any other 

natsuo was 9 when rei was hospitalised, which makes shouto 5, fuyumi 12 & touya 12+ ( unless ur in for the touya & natsu twin theory ;) ) out of all the todoroki kids, natsuo was the last to know why due to both his young age & most likely fuyumis request for touya not to share, he actually finds out the first time he sees shouto after the incident, along with the new kettle that fuyumi had hastily brought so ‘ shouto could feel better in the kitchen ‘ & touyas increase of anger directed to their father; he puts the pieces together & asks about it at dinner. much to fuyumis dismay. 

( in regards to my previous post - nvm i cant find it. i’m still 100% in support of my previous mindse. touya & natsuo still most likely made promises to one another to save the family: natsuo & touya’s closeness forms directly off of saving this family together, but ofc this doesn’t work, not one bit. )

small note: natsuo & touya were the closest on these ideas, to the point where touya would tell natsuo that he wanted to leave / his plans to do so.. because fuyumi would worry & tell someone, while they never really got to speak to shouto. touya went to natsuo for a lot & natsuo did the same in return - or at least, how i view it. 

ORIGINALLY, my old post talks about touya leaving at an earlier day, but thinking about it has prompted me to rethink this, for now i presume he left when natsuo was around 12 - 13, making touya most likely 15+, but there’s one thing that’s ultimately never changed, natsuo is there in touyas final moments in the endeavour residence, & here’s 3 of the theories i hold / would plot out,,,,,,,

1. AN ARGUMENT WITH ENDEAVOUR: this is a popular view, touya’s final moments were spent in the company with his father where things get too much & the both of them sharing irreversible words. these lead to touya leaving the house / causing so much harm onto himself. however, in some funny parallel to where todoroki tells izuku everything & bakugo overhears, it’s natsuo whos hiding behind that wall, who hears everything - when he shouts what happened to big bro touya is when he finally admits to endeavour that he was there & he knew what he said. 

2. TOUYA JUST LEAVES: not a very exciting idea but was well & truly the original plot i went through. one night touya decides that he’s tired of being here, that he can’t cope with living here anymore, & well pretty much walks out in the middle of the night - however, he’s apprehended by a younger natsuo just infront of the front door ( whos only out to get a drink of water but can honestly realise what he’s doing ) but no matter what natsuo says, touyas done. & he walks out instructing natsuo to do what he couldn’t do, even though natsuos final beg is to take him with him.

3. FROSTBITE: this ones... probably the most scarring idea but, oddly works with canon & is my most recent view. in some attempt to not look like his father, it’s natsuo who touya asks to bring his scars forward with his both unpredictable & never practised quirk. natsuo, as young & impressionable as he is towards his big brother, agrees - however, things go terribly deeper & wrong ( in natsuos eyes ) when it happens, & his immediate reaction after having this happen is to run to fuyumi, but by the time they come back touya is... gone. ( this one means instead of hypothesising on fuyumis part, she does know who dabi is - but she keeps it a secret in order to keep natsuo safe. ) 

ultimately, i cover the rest in my other post that i would link if i could remember, but ... after this, natsuo realises there’s no other way to really get back at endeavour without exposing him, for everything - so a lot of natsuos life is based around exposing him: college course in media, carrying out extra work into law & looking into things by himself ( he needs the respect of the public before he can go out classing accusations that have more than likely been covered up with large bribes & so on ), in fact - natsuos only shown up for things related to his father when he knows he can get something out of it to work against him. if endeavour were to die / be exposed... there would be a lot of blanks into natsuos life & so on... thats just how things are. 

natsuo is 17 when he starts looking for touya again, 18 when him & a friend work out he’s dabi - in the canon timeline, natsuo most likely found dabi after the afo vs ofa fight - he’s been seeing him for about 2 -3 months at most - but dabis still the brother he wants to take down his father with, & that’s why he’s so hopeful about the whole thing.

I never thought I was a victim until...

I have always believed in justice, in fighting the fight for good against evil. I always believed I would be able to live my life like that. Believing that good will win in the end.

Then there is something that happens that makes you realise you are not strong, justice is not all it seems.... that evil sometimes wins.

I have never classed myself a victim of violence, or assault or whatever you want to call it. I was not hurt by family or even friends. I was hurt by a stranger. Someone I had just meet. Someone who thought it was ok in a public place to use violence to punch me in the temple and knock me out. And for what? Because I defended myself against his behaviour towards me.

This happened 6 and a half years ago. I remember most it. I also have tried to forget a lot of it. However just recently I have had to confront the whole attack again.

The reason being is that he crossed my path again. And he bragged about that night he punched a girl. My whole body froze. He didnt realise it was me but i knew it was him.I got out of there right away with mind you, all his details. Name and number I now have it.

The truth is though, that its the aftermath that leaves the most damaging effect. Not the fact I was seriously hurt physically, but the emotional and mental truma it has caused me.

Forget about the fact that at the time of the incident I was more than confident going to places on my own, that now seems like another me. I dont go out to certain places alone anymore. My sense of independence is not what it was.

But its the mental fight you have with yourself.... did i deserve it? was it my fault? I should've? Why didnt i? That anguish you go through day after day, slowly breaking you down.

Back to justice.... I always said if I ever found him I would call the police straight away. I mean the day after the incident I reported it and the venue supplied the cctv evidence to them too (though I don't know how much of it it actually shows). However, even in this day and age I dont know if I can go back to the police to get my justice.

After all, how many times do we see woman standing up to their abusers, their rapists, their preditors and justice does not happen. They aren't believed. They are told they dont behave the way someone in their situation should. Seriously it makes me ill thinking about it.

Now I know, I am a victim. And not just of that night. Im a victim for all that have been in the same or similar situation. Im a victim for other woman who have suffered, scared and alone in the world never trusting due to what a man has done to them. I am all those things.

I am so frightened to fight this too. I have lost the ability to be able to seek justice. I dont have the strength to take this further. I want to fight, however my mind is too fragile.

I have those close supporting me and bless them for it. Im sure its hard for them to understand why I just cant fight it. Maybe some of them do understand as they too have been through similar. Maybe some dont.

Maybe one day I will change my mind and fight the fight, however for now the best I can do is finally admit I was a victim of an assault.

azgen- Oh You Know 🐀

cléon- birds in general, but particularly big colorful ones

marshall- cows because he just thinks theyre neat

26. Expansion of civilization or the preservation of nature?

azgen- they just want things to stay balanced overall, like expanding is fine if its not hurting anything

cléon- definitely preservation of nature, she grew up surrounded by nature and values it for both its necessity to her work back home and because it was here first dont be rude

marshall- expansion of civilization kind of by necessity, like its not safe for most people outside of the domes so in order to have everyone live somewhere safe they need to push outwards

27. They’re at a tavern. They bump into a big burly angry drunk with a combative attitude. What happens?

azgen- 💪💪🐀 but only if the other person actually physically starts the fight

cléon- apologizes and offers to buy them a drink/share her snack to settle things down

marshall- since he bumped into the other person he would say sorry and try to continue whatever he was doing, but if they tried to start something he would say lets take this outside and then after walking out the front door he would just keep walking and leave and go home

28. What do they do between quests?

azgen- azgens been running a fairly successful business for about a century and is not gonna let a little jail time and a move get in the way of that. its pretty much just for fun/hobbies at this point though because adventuring makes a lot of $$$ (that we left on that goblin island because i dont know how factories work but they should be compensated for their work! i hope theyre doing ok...)

cléon- shes entirely out of her depth and is doing the adventure equivalent of nodding and saying yeah when you didnt hear the other person, so shes gonna spend a good while meeting everyone and exploring. she likes to draw maps so she probably draws one of the core/surrounding area

marshall- even before switching to office work it was pretty similar, like monster hunting and desk jobs are stressful in their own rights so a lot of it is stuff that relaxes him... read a book, work on a jigsaw puzzle, play with the gerbils... but also because too much of that is boring he definitely took the car outside and did some things of questionable legality 

29. Biggest positive and negative influences on their life and development?

azgen- positive, well both kids were troublemakers but they had a very patient mentor who put up with a lot of their shit until they figured out that actually sometimes learning is cool and actually got down to it. another positive i actually would count is getting arrested because otherwise theyd still be in that hermit hut and i think meeting a bunch of new friends and getting a big ol prophecy is a better direction for life. negative, since there were two of them and they basically did all the same stuff they ended up dividing up/prioritizing things differently which after they werent together anymore left azgen not being able to read common/swim/cook well/etc... also the Chicken Incident which scared both of them so much they still cant face a chicken in the flesh. this cant be used as a weakness against each other just based on the fact that one of them would have to get close enough to one to move it/put it in a trap/confirm its a chicken. and of course the whole gun thing is also a big negative.

cléon- positive, she has a very caring and supporting family! especially her older sister who took her on trips when she was younger and helped her get into music, and her mom who raised her to be polite but take no shit. learning to play an instrument also was a positive because it gave her a good creative outlet which shed been needing for a while. negative, she lived kind of in the middle of nowhere as a young kid and didnt really have perspective or exposure to much, and shes had a lot of responsibility re: her younger sisters handed down after her older sister moved to the city which she didnt really have a chance to get away from unless shes working.

marshall-i dont have a lot of his deeper backstory official yet because i know were supposed to do the shared history bits and ive been planning to get those and then work from there + my skeleton to get the big picture? i get stepping on toes anxiety about storywriting too though so this is partially that sorry. i do figure though that monster hunting as a profession would be a general negative just since its pretty dangerous and doing that as a paid job for a company like with a schedule would be more stressful/less flexible than just doing it freelance. positive, since hes got a less fatal job at the moment hes had a good amount of me time and has got himself right, as much as one can when they live in a dome and probably will go back to hunting monsters in the future. he might have to leave the gerbils with his cousin so he calls her twice a month to make sure she remembers how to take care of them, and also to watch movies. that counts as positive because they have a good time and im running out of things to say!

30. Would they smooch a ghost? 

azgen- they have to meet the same standards as any other person but the fact that theyre a ghost wouldnt get in the way

cléon- shed have to understand how someone can exist as a ghost and just how dead they actually are but she would be
