i’m scrolling on tiktok on eddie’s couch while eddie sits on the edge of his couch, playing on his playstation, playing whatever game he’s been obsessed with lately. he looks over at me while hitting his pen between matches, asking me if i want a hit.

a video comes up with a girl crying and duetting a video of a horse. the horse is getting it’s number printed on each of it’s side with paint. the way they “brand” it is with the tool they use to maim them, by burning.

the video goes to the horses face which looks sad and like it was expecting to get burned. i immediately feel a wave of sadness come over me, tears pricking my eyes.

i try to hold them back but i fail and tears stream down my face and i let out a few sniffles. eddie turns to face me while i let tears fall down my face. “what’s wrong?” he asks. i don’t answer and continue to think about the horse as i continue to cry.

“baby.” he sighs. “i need to go.” he said into his mic and turns off his game. he gets up and climbs to me. “what’s up?” he asks as he sits by me. “the horse.” i say through tears. “the horse?” he questions. “yes!” i state.

“what happened?” he asks. “it looks surprise it didn’t get hurt.” i answer. “aw, come here.” he pulls me against him. “it’s okay.” he coos. “it didn’t get hurt though, so it’s okay.” he adds.

“but it probably saw it friends get hurt.” i point out. “i know, it sucks. but it didn’t get hurt, so that’s something.” he says, kissing the top of my head. i start to cry over the fact it saw it’s friends get hurt and he kisses my forehead.

“baby. it’s okay. let it out.” he says calmly. i continue and he comforts me as i finish up. “everything okay?” he asks and i nod against his chest. “okay.” he smiles, kissing me softly.

“i love you.” he whispers against me. “i love you.” i whisper back. “sorry about ruining your game.” i apologize. “it’s okay, it’s okay.” he rushes out. “i needed to stop anyways.” he shrugs.

“you’re my little cry baby.” he softly smile. “my baby.” he adds. “ed’s.” i softly laugh. “see, you’re healed.” he grins. “wanna stay like this?” he asks. “mhm.” i nod. “good.” he smiles. we stay like that for a while until he fixes us lunch.
