Mentioned this before but as much as I adore the medic Leo headcanon, my favorite type of it is when it’s basically just Leo knowing the most surface level of stuff and carrying around a super basic first-aid kit in his pack. So he knows how to use gauze, and he’s got a ton of Jupiter Jim branded bandaids, and if you really needed it then he can hit you up with some ibuprofen but other than that? Nothing.

But. I love the idea that that changes post-invasion.

They’re pretty sturdy, all of them, so they can take more than one beating and really only need a bandaid for the fun of it. But the invasion hit harder than ice packs and “lots of rest” would help with, and I can bet that a post being beaten to a pulp Leo would have a lot of time on his hands to reflect and, maybe, learn a thing or two as he waits to get better.

It’s nothing excessive, not at first, but he watches veterinary videos, and live surgeries, and other videos in that same realm (because the books are, uh, a bit too jargon-y for him) multiple times over. Just so he knows. Just in case he needs to know.

In his pack, there’s a first-aid kit. With the use of a mini portal for extra space, the kit has grown to include everything from scalpels to butterfly stitches to sutures to even fiberglass patches.

And obviously the Jupiter Jim brand bandaids stay too.

the last three losers left in derry (i headcanon stan and richie to be the last to leave, so stan, richie, and mike) having at this point realized that when you leave derry you forget and they sit down together to watch stand by me because they remember watching it when it came out and thinking it was the greatest but they're seventeen now and all of their friends have forgotten them and richie and stan know that they too will one day forget, and mike knows he will be the only one left who remembers, so suddenly the movie doesn't seem as wonderful as it used to. they wanted to turn it off when gordie started saying "i never had any friends later on like the ones i had when i was twelve" but just stared at the TV long after the credits had rolled instead.

I can’t remember where I saw this but I saw a theory about Neytiri’s cut on Spider’s chest being similar to the one Jake gets to be symbolically killed before he can become a part of the clan in the first Avatar. This being highlighted by it happening again in the beginning of the movie when he is symbolically killed in order to be replaced as the leader of the Omaticaya. Like she’s symbolically killing him as Quaritchs son so he can be reborn as her and Jake’s. She is killing that relationship in her mind so she can finally let go. I don’t know if I believe that’s what they intended but I will die a happy death if it is.

People who don't empathize with Higgs' perspective on the "fair exchange" of killing to sustain his powers have probably never been in life-or-death situations of having to make impossible choices to survive. It's not pretty, it's not right, but human nature can be extremely cruel upon being forced into constant survival mode, especially over a period of years.

Self-justification is really the only means of coping in such circumstances. Higgs soothed himself and tried to minimize the horror by honoring the people he killed. ("corpses are precious, powerful things. They're so much more than bombs. Terrorists ought to treat them with proper respect.")

The true tragedy is that Higgs really didn't think he had other choices available. It's not excusable, but in my opinion it is forgivable.
