Yes, that’s right. Zendaya and her team were the smartest in the game. She actually deserves all she does JUST for making such amazing decisions. Having her cook her career slowly but surely was the way to go. Agents actually don’t want to put their clients in the spotlight too soon, not when you can have them in ensamble films and doing a little of prestige TV here and there. Euphoria was a wonderful medium for Z. Being able to dip her toes in movies without pressure while doing Euphoria (and those two Emmy’s was great).

But like I said, sooner or later, actors have to jump and go all in. Challangers will be her time to shine. She got 10M for it too. She’s not above proving herself.

As for Timmy, while Dune is very much his movie, it’s remake from a movie from the 80s based on a book. I don’t think the people that went to the movies to watch it went solely for him. But I’ll give him the credit. I think Wonka will be a big moment for him because that’s all him, new(ish) material, singing, dancing, aimed for kids. The leaked trailer gave me Harry Potter vibes. That’s all him. No more hiding behind an existing property or an ensamble cast. It’s also premiering right after Dune. I think they are going for the “Uncharted” effect like Tom, who released it right after Spider-Man made 1B dollars. They hit while the pan was hot. It’s a great tactic.

So far, Z has made excellent choices in her career as far as I'm concerned. She probably also knew that she wasn't yet ready at the time to lead a film on the big screen, and I think that was wise!

I think ppl forget that Zendaya really only JUST started doing big motion picture films since Spider-man HOCO, which came out in 2017. That's only 6 years ago. 👀

She needed time to improve and perfect her acting skills before leading a major film imo.... 🤷🏾‍♀️

She'll be fine, and I def think "Challengers" will give ppl a lot to think about. It might even be their first time seeing Zendaya in a role that's not a teenager lol. 😅 I feel many will be shocked by her acting range, especially those who may not watch Euphoria.

The trailer for "Wonka" came out already? 🥴 How did I miss that?

Anyway, I definitely think that movie will showcase Timmy's acting AND his ability to bring butts in seats, especially since I'm assuming it will have a PG-13 rating (which usually makes more money anyway), and the movie focuses solely on him without a huge ensemble cast.

I kinda disagree w/you about Dune 1984 though. 🤔 Dune 1984 was supposedly considered a BOMB, and it didn't even make enough money to cover their budget lol 😆

I don't really think ppl were flocking to the theaters to see "Dune" (2021) because they had seen the original old film, or even because they had read the books (most have said the book is a tough, LONG read 🥴).

“Brother, I love you and all but would you, kindly, fuck off?” Anthony grouses, gritting his teeth.

“Is that any way to speak to your little brother?” You roll your eyes. “Ben, of course you can join us,” you placate, looking up at him sympathetically as he hovers by your table, seeing the sadness tugging at the corner of his eyes.

As he wanders back across the restaurant to the bar to grab his drink and join you, you scowl at Anthony. “He’s just been dumped. You could be nicer.”

“I could… just not tonight,” he says, almost harangued.

You decide not to dwell on why he seems unduly hung up on this evening’s plans being so particular.

Hmm I wonder why Anthony could be so very keen for this night not to be interrupted? 🤔😉😜

“What’s wrong?” His cadence changing as he realises you sound off. It appears he’s moving to a quieter spot, the loud background noise of wherever he is fading slightly.

“He’s getting married!” You wail, gesturing wildly so the wine almost slops out of the bottle you are swigging it from.

“Who is?” You can hear the frown in his tone, even down the phone.

“Tom!” You exclaim over a hiccup, as if irritated he can’t read your mind, staring at the email invitation on your laptop and wishing you had those laser eyes that could burn something out of existence.

“I’ll be right over,” the reassuring promise in his sincere tone makes you clasp your chest. Good old handsome sweet reliable Ben. What a great friend.

Can’t believe the end of PFYT is upon us! 💗 To celebrate your amazing series I had a question and I hope it isn’t weird for me to ask and please don’t feel pressured to answer this if it is! So I remembered how you mentioned in the first chapter that she was on the pill and it made me think about there potentially being a pregnancy scare for her and Alfred in the future now that they’ve become more official. I wondered if you ever thought about how he’d react? I’m sure there’s so many complicated feelings about that for him and her as well 🤔 this may have taken an angsty turn on no lol but yeah just curious what you think, I feel I could pick your brain about a hundred things related to the series!

Hi anon, this message was so sweet!! 💕 I was excited to get it, because it was definitely interesting(and comforting) to think about all the feelings that would be involved. I ended up writing a little, open-ended drabble from Alfred’s POV, I hope you like it. (And I’m also so so happy to hear you enjoyed the series!)

He blinks, not sure he’s heard correctly.

“Pardon?”

A crease appears between her eyebrows, her eyes searching his, “Alfred, I’m late. We’ve been so busy, that I hadn’t noticed. But I’m about to start a new pack and…”

Her words are rushed as she swallows, her eyes dropping, “And I think we should-”

Alfred shifts for the first time in minutes, shoulders strung tight as he stands in their bedroom. Mind already racing ahead, and he has to force himself to slow down when she confirms what he thought she was saying.

“Has this happened before? Being late?” His voice is somehow low and steady, despite the way his heart has kicked up.

A moment as she thinks, and then nods, “It has. Sometimes, in the past, but not since… not since we’ve been together.”

He exhales. Finally seeing the tension in her own body, and then he’s trying to soften, stepping closer. She curls into him, cheek pressed into his shoulder, his eyes far-off as his lips press into her hair.

“I’ll buy us a test, then. Would you like to stay here?” He doesn’t really want to leave her, but he needs a moment alone to think, to work things out in his own head.

Always pragmatic, always a planner. She needs him, but he can’t be there for her the way he wants to be with his stomach in knots like this.

She nods again, fingers gripping into his shirt. When he finally steps away, they trail after him for a moment, before dropping.

His hands are stiff from clutching the steering wheel so hard. Sitting in the parking spot for just a moment longer before going in.

He’s not stalling, he would never leave her waiting. Just needing one more second to process the endless loop of thoughts from the drive over.

The thought of possibly being a father, though he had never considered himself one. How he hadn’t been, when he need to be. The guilt had gnawed at him for years, slowly stripping him away.

Of course he had - does - love Bruce like a son. Couldn’t love him more, if in another world, he had been. But the memories that have spanned the last twenty years still felt so fresh at times - the loss and the pain and the shaky ground that was just now leveling out. It staggered him.

It’s had only been recently - with the addition to the family, the young master Grayson - that the sharp, aching edge of self-loathing had started to ebb. When Bruce had turned to him, during those first nights - so lost and unsure how to help.

Alfred had seen himself, from those twenty years ago.

It’s then, when he had felt like he had helped, when he watched the way Bruce had slowly and carefully become more confident - when he had smiled wearily at him some days later, offering a low “thanks” and an “I’m glad you were here” that things had changed. Just a little.

It had almost felt like a redemption.

His hands still ache. Alfred had been idle for far too long now.

Making himself move, he opens the door.

She’s still in the same spot, back pressed against the bathroom door as she sits on the carpet. Pushing herself up when the door opens, when he coming in holding the small plastic grocery bag.

He can be there for her, now. His hands smoothing over her shoulders, cupping her cheek in his palm - still on edge but he thinks he’s got a handle on it.

“Do you want me to go in with you?” Alfred offers, and she smiles then, nose wrinkling.

“No. I can do that part myself.”

He wonders what she’s been thinking about. Hasn’t even asked her how she’s feeling, too caught up in his own worries. It makes his head duck, pressing his mouth gently to hers.

His brave girl. He’s not going anywhere. He’d never leave her. Would never dream of it.

He hopes she knows that, even if he can’t quite manage to say the words out loud.

“Will you wait with me when I’m done?” She asks, sounding more like herself when they pull apart.

“Of course, love.”

He’s so in love it hurts, and maybe that’s why it’s hard. Or maybe that’s why he’s been able to work through his emotions so quickly.

She’s softened him, since they’re met. Showed him things he’s never thought he’d have - things that he had thought about before, when he was younger, but had long given up.

And he can’t pretend, that sometimes… when he comes home from an errand, or from stepping away - seeing her curled on the couch, smiling and laughing as she watches a video on her phone with Dick - that there hasn’t been something.

A lurch in his chest, a wondering floods into his mind, that steals his breath. For just a moment.

One that doesn’t have to do anything with the fact that he’s glad they have her - that he is immensely grateful she gets what the young boy is talking about - because he certainly does not understand why you would watch a video of someone playing a game.

And although the pattern repeats through his head - worries of being far too old, of failing again, of not being good enough - there’s something else there now, small and bright.

Because, he already is a father. And part of him wonders, if he had her with him - if they did this together, then maybe…

But then the door opens, and he’s stepping in. It rests on the counter that she leans against it, face-down. He had bought the best that had available , although he knows they all worked the same. One that spelled out the words, so that they wouldn’t have to try to interpret the little blue lines.

Chewing on the inside of her lip as it closes behind him, as he moves to lean next to her. Their fingers finding each other, entwining tightly.

A moment, before she asks, “How are you feeling?”

He hates that she asked first, that she’s worrying about him. Wondering when he became so readable, over the weeks and months they’ve been together.

She seems unable to help adding, “I just- I know this isn’t what we’ve talked about, what we’ve planned-”

And then he’s softening more - turning her way, filling her line of sight, cupping her jaw and tilting it so that all she can see is him.

“We’ve been through so much, dove. And we’ve always figured it out.” Her face is warm in his hands, where she’s blinking up at him, “No matter what happens, no matter what we decide together, we’ll be okay. I promise.”

A breath, before he tells her again, and not for the last time.

“I love you and I always will. Nothing will ever change that.”

He wishes he understood the look that crosses her face, the tears that seem to spring to the corners of her eyes. And so, as she sniffs - he asks the same, “How are you feeling, darling?”

“Oh,” she breathes, with a small, shaky laugh, “Same, I think.”

A brief moment of relief, at last.

Together, they take a deep breath, leaning against each other for support. His thumb smoothing over his and they wait for the alarm she had set to sound.

And when it does, they flip it over - together.

Notes - And ah, you asked me if I’ve thought about it, and to be honest (and probably way too info, sorry!) one of the reasons Alfred appeals to me so much personally, is that I interpret his character as “older, reluctant father figure” + a disinterest in his own bio children. In the movie, when he mentions Bruce needed a father and all he had was him - I think that’s such an emotional part and has really stuck with me, and I really love the idea that even though he fails there and does not see himself as a father or a father figure, he would have a second chance helping Bruce become a good one as he adopts the future batfam.

But like I said, that hc/interpretation is fueled by my own self-interest!! I can absolutely see the appeal of the above + expanding his family in a way that he had never imagined for himself (purely because of his situation, maybe it’s a dream he felt like he had given up on) - that is a really such a beautiful thought. 💖

Pressing your gift close to your chest, you follow Dr. Exe as they lead you towards Courier - he’s occupied with a Messenger, who’s giving him new mail to transport. Before he sets off to deliver his just-received letters, he notices you and Dr. Exe. “Ah, hello!” The Itra sends a kind smile and small wave, “Are you expecting a message from me, Doctor?” They step aside while shaking their head, then motion in your direction, “No, but your special someone does have something for you.” Courier isn’t able to inquire on that, as Dr. Exe is already parting from the both of you with a wink.

The Itra’s attention goes to you, and his head tilts to the side slightly, “Huh? You have something you need to give me?” When you reply in affirmation, he chimes with a light laugh, “You know, delivering packages is supposed to be my job!” Though his tone is playful, Courier’s eyes are in fact fixed on the box you’re holding; he opens his hands and holds them out for you, “Alright, I’ll accept it, of course.”

A grin painting your lips, you give your gift to Courier - a petite box of chocolates, wrapped in a ribbon matching the colour of his scarf. Upon the reveal of your present, a noise of awe leaves his lips and his eyes shine in a manner that reminds you of gemstones. “Whoa, is this really for me?” You nod, and your genuineness causes heat to flood to his cheeks, “Sorry, I suppose I’m a little surprised. You’re way too kind…this might just be a small box of chocolates, but you should know, this means very much to me.” When the Itra finishes his sentence, he places one of his hands on your arm; his touch trails up, to your shoulder, to the curve of your neck, then finally settling to cup your jawline.

The smile has faded from Courier’s expression, however his facial features still tell you happiness - his expression is soft and painted with affection, his irises sparkle. “I’ll definitely enjoy each of the chocolates, thank you. I can’t thank you enough!” The Itra huffs curtly and the ears atop his head twitch with slight displeasure, “It’s too bad I don’t have anything to give you in return…” - He perks up - “Ah, wait.”

Courier carefully opens the chocolate box, then adjusts his hold so he can carry it with one hand. With his other, he takes a chocolate and lifts it to your mouth, “Here. You should share some of these with me.” When you begin to protest, he simply presses the candy to your lips and a smile grows on his face, “Come on, there’s no way I can finish these all on my own, so I insist! My treat!”

I hope you enjoy this sweet peek into our friendship, and the wonderful insights that they had to share with me.

DL: First of all, congratulations on a whole year! In that time you've created a lovely and welcoming fandom space for authors, both new and established, lots of helpful guides and explanations for readers, and over 300 rec lists. What's been the most rewarding part of being "The Librarian"?

WL: Oh thank you so much! It’s been a wild year, made all the better for having this blog. As for the BEST part? Hmmmmm 🤔 This is difficult to answer because there have been so many unexpected gifts, but probably the most rewarding and surprising part is how much support the fandom community has come out with. I hoped that, at most, people would enjoy some of the lists, but beyond that they’ve given personal support as well, whether I’ve needed time, or someone to help find a fic, or just general support, the community has shown up, and that’s been an incredible gift that helps to keep me motivated and feeling special.

DL: I love that! I love how you describe fandom as a community. I think the real fandom isn't just the content, but the friends we made along the way! 😂

WL: YES! I agree! Fandom is just people connected by passion.

DL: Absolutely! And I think something really unique that you've done with The Wolfstar Librarian is encouraging others' passion as well.

WL: I was not prepared to feel this soft! 🥺

DL: Sorry, not sorry! Lol. I think something that's very unique to your blog specifically is the way that you are always giving "new" recs. A lot of the recs are ones that I haven't read before and I think that's very encouraging to authors and creators to keep writing and creating. It's not the same old "classics" over and over. That’s something I’ve tried to emulate on my own blog as well. I search for a mix of old and new fics.

WL: Oh yes, I'm always on the hunt for new fics. I check @ao3feed-wolfstar at least once a week and go through all of the new fics, picking out things I think I might want to read, and even when searching for lost fics I oftentimes end up adding a dozen new fics to be TBR list. I'm fascinated with the new, and am always looking for fresh takes on old tropes. Of course I also have tons of subscriptions for my favorite authors, but just like with food, I have comfort items I know I'll like but then I also enjoy new things just as much.

DL: Out of curiosity, how long is your TBR list?

WL: (after a significant pause) Oh goodness, I had to check. It’s currently 15 pages long and at 20 fics a page…

DL: Hold on, I’ll pull up a calculator. Um...300. So as many rec lists as you’ve made. You mentioned comfort items. What are some of your favorite tropes?

WL: Oh my goodness, yeah I hadn't done the math! 😂 I think what I find the most comfort in are things I can relate to the most? So lots of modern AUs with happy endings, and I'm also a sucker for soulmate or a good texting fic since they tend to include some fun humor that I can use as a counterpoint to real life.

DL: I love modern AUs!

WL: Me too! And fix-it AUs. JKR did them dirty 😉

DL: Who hasn’t JKR done dirty? Lol. Okay, and do you want to spill some tea? What are your pet peeves in a fic? The things that make you immediately click that red x and think "not for me". To be clear, I’m not saying things that you think are wrong — we’re not making any moral judgment here! Just your specific pet peeves that irritate you personally.

WL: The first thing isn’t so much a pet peeve as something I get asked a lot and feel bad about. The question I get asked the most is "how do I get rec'd on WL", and it just makes it clear how infrequently people read the pinned FAQ, where I encourage people to send in recs. Probably 4/5 people who send in their own fics as a rec actually end up on a list, but so few people do! So just remember that the Librarian is just one person who can easily miss a lot of things, but genuinely wants to read and share lovely fics. But actual pet peeves? I definitely can't handle MCD, or anything that's too dark just because it takes my mental health somewhere I don't want to go. I also tend not to like....imbalanced relationships? I know that's vague, but anytime there isn't mutual respect, it just feels weird and unnatural to me so I tend to just click out. Also, I need fairly standard formatting. I've seen a few posts about it, and it's definitely true that my brain struggles to read anything written outside of standard formatting (correct punctuation and capitalization). It's not even a judgement, just something like math where my brain goes "no thank you!" 😰

DL: That's definitely something that makes me hit the red x too. And I know what you mean about lack of mutual respect. I think that there's stories about relationships where someone makes a mistake and with work and apologies, they can come back from that and still have a solid relationship but there's other's where one person just completely disregards and breaks any trust or respect that they've built in the relationship and an apology can't fix that. It's a fighting together/fighting each other kind of thing. And I think that's an interesting point you bring up because I feel like with Drarry, Harry and Draco are set up to be adversaries and part of the story is them overcoming it. But that's not really part of Sirius and Remus' story.

WL: Yes, exactly! And I definitely read fanfic for comfort, for romance, and I feel like you can't have true love without mutual respect, without equality. Of COURSE that can take time and work to get to sometimes, but as long as they end up on the same page, I'm game. 😊

DL: Exactly. And again, I just want to say that it doesn't mean we think those fics are inherently bad or anything. It's just our personal preferences as readers. So, it's obvious that I also read Wolfstar in addition to Drarry. Do you ever read Drarry?

WL: Honestly, I rarely read outside of wolfstar, but sometimes I do read Drarry because it's so much bigger and tends to cover a wider variety of stories. I also read Dorlene, Jegulus, Jegulily, and a host of other smaller ships like Fleur/Tonks that end up in wolfstar fics.

DL: Can I put you on the spot and have you give us a Drarry rec?

WL: My favorite one is actually one you rec'd! It's the Christmas one that's just SO soft I can't help but read it each year as the weather gets cooler.

DL: Ohhhh! The Christmas Tree by @cottonpadenthusiast. I love that one! It’s a Drarry + Remus/Sirius get together! Just a sweet, happy family dynamic.

WL: Yes! It's half wolfstar, half drarry, and totally sweet.

DL: With families....we often joke in private that you and I have "sibling" blogs. Did you ever mind that I joined you in being a librarian?

WL: Oh, of COURSE not! Running a rec blog like this is so much work, there's no way I could do more than one, and I truly love having you, and other rec blogs, because they inspire me so much! I love finding new fics, new ways to share content, and new people to share with. Rec blogs inspired me to make my own, and hopefully I inspire people to find their own style as well!

DL: That's definitely something I've tried to do as your "little sibling" blog. I feel very lucky to have such a cool "older sibling" and mentor librarian that I can always come and ask a question or advice from, but I've tried to be thoughtful in making it my own too, with my Happy Hours and stuff. And I try to be mindful as well that I'm not copying exactly what another Drarry rec blogger does either. We all get our own niche, and I think that makes the recs we give more rich. And in true younger sibling fashion, I started my blog because I saw you doing it and thought it was such a neat idea that I wanted to join you. What made you start your library?

WL: When I first made the library, and imagined what I wanted it to be, I wanted more than anything for the library to be a place that I had searched for when I was new to fandom. I was so desperate for someone to show me fics for my exact mood, or comfort tropes, or just introduce me to something new the way librarians have done all my life. With this blog, the library, I'm trying to provide that comfort, that answer that we're all seeking. Hopefully, other people find the same relief and comfort here that an old wood lined library, full of wonder and hope, offers them in real life as well.

DL: Oh, now you’ve made ME soft. I think that’s such a lovely statement that we’ll wrap it up there. Do you think people are going to judge us because neither of us can do math?

WL: Ahahaha, honestly, if that's my worst feature, I'm okay with it. 😂

ok ok ok can i ask this because i love the meta and bakugou myself but need a second opinion... how likely is it that bakugou will actually be a popular hero? i get the feeling he will be a lot like endeavor, having a great amount of resolved incidents of varying magnitude but for approval he will be pretty lacking. i think it'd be hard for him to put aside his pride and appeal to the general public how other heroes do because as a rule he says he doesn't do something if his heart isn't in it... but then again he and deku have been key players in major incidents, so he might be fine, too! i just wonder how successful he will turn out to be as a pro 🤔

We’re setting aside the assumption that pro hero rankings will even exist at the end of MHA (a fact of which I’m not convinced).

Here’s the thing. Endeavor is not unpopular. Just because someone is not ranked #1, that doesn’t mean people hate them. Endeavor is ranked #4 in popularity among all heroes in Japan. That’s not for nothing. We also know he has some pretty vocal haters, meaning that he ranks #4 in popularity DESPITE his antis. Endeavor has his niche, and the hints we’ve been given about it are basically: people with fire quirks may like him, some people dig his aloof attitude, and people know he reliably gets the job done.

What does Katsuki have? 1. A flashy quirk, sure to be popular (as has been hammered home since episode 1); 2. A particular personality trope that is pretty popular among celebrity figures in Japan; 3. Insane levels of competence. He should be able to match Endeavor in at least these regards.

Endeavor also shows a capacity for charisma in leadership after taking the #1 spot. Katsuki definitely has these traits in spades, and he’s only been improving on them.

So then, the question is, does Katsuki have any traits that pose him advantages or disadvantages?

You say his attitude may not appeal to the public, at least in approval ratings, but in a lot of ways his personality resembles Mirko’s. I can’t imagine he’d face any obstacles in this regard that Mirko didn’t already clear, and she has the added challenge of sporting her attitude in the face of misogyny. Katsuki’s probably fine here.

Katsuki also embodies the ganbaru zeitgeist of Japanese culture pretty traditionally, the notion of perfecting your craft in one very specific skill set, aiming to become a true master in one’s chosen profession. He’s not entirely off-the-rails in the Japanese psyche.

Perhaps his biggest hurdle is his particular choice of vocabulary and catchphrase. Screaming at people to die, naming himself Great Explosion Murder God, eh, probably not everyone’s cup of tea. But then I’m reminded of the video of that Crimson Riot interview in Kirishima’s middle school flashback. Crimson Riot was given the opportunity to elaborate on his particular flavor of “chivalry” or “manliness” or whatever you want to translate it as. I think Katsuki would manage to say something profound enough about his choice of words to appeal to enough people to stem any backlash from antis (especially now with chapter 310 out. Oooooooh the metaaaaaaaaa.)

Not to mention Katsuki does show his soft side occasionally, like he did with those grade schoolers. Everyone loves a tsundere. A good PR team could honestly have a field day cultivating that public image. People still remember his face from middle school, after all! He’s charting pretty well for a freaking high schooler.

And then I could go uber meta and say, “Look at the IRL character popularity polls and then get back to me” lol.

Lyndsey Scott has a resume that almost sounds too impressive to be true: she’s works as a tutor on Apple’s iOS team and is a software engineer. Full stop. That’s a career worthy of serious accolades.

But she’s also a celebrated Victoria’s Secret model.

And it’s her vocation as a model that led some deeply misguided sexist trolls to question the 31-year-old’s qualifications.

Big mistake.

Scott didn’t just “own” these would-be bullies, she did it with the facts. They say sunlight is the best disinfectant and her truth rays sent the cockroaches of the internet scurrying for cover.

Here’s how it all started: An Instagram post headlined ‘This Victoria’s Secret model can program code in Python, C++, Java, MIPS, and Objective-C.’ came under attack on a Reddit forum.

A few anonymous users questioned whether Scott was the real deal, mansplaining their way past any research or actual knowledge by assuming she wasn’t a “real” coder and was simply using the term to give herself an elevated sense of importance.

One user openly speculated that she had simply run a simple program that “programmed” the words “Hello, world.”

Another even more condescending user tried to explain the complexities of coding, something he assumed Scott clearly didn’t have a functioning grasp of:

“Anyone can write code, not many people can write code well though. Languages are easy to learn, but scalable, readable, maintainable, efficient code is not.”

Of course, the problem with all of this is that Scott is in fact an extremely qualified coder.

And while she noted that she normally chooses to not engage with hateful strangers online, in this case she felt it was important to clear the air. So, Scott jumped into the comments section of the Coding Engineer Instagram account and took on the role of anti-troll, writing:

I have 27481 points on StackOverflow; I’m on the iOS tutorial team for RayWendelich.com; I’m the Lead iOS software engineer for @RallyBound, the 841st fastest growing company in the US according to @incmagazine, I have a Bachelor’s degree from Amherst where I double majored in computer science and theater, and I’m able to live my life doing everything I love. Looking at these comments I wonder why 41% of women in technical careers drop out because of a hostile work environment 🤔 #gofigure

In a follow-up post on her own Instagram account, Scott wrote:

“I normally try to ignore negatively, but decided to jump into the comment section of this one. Not trying to brag lol, just stating facts in the hope I’ll convince at least one negative commenter that programmers can come in all shapes, sizes, genders, races, etc. so they’ll think twice before doubting other women and girls they encounter in tech.”

Scott shared her message across Twitter as well, where it was welcomed with open arms by other women in tech:

Shutting down sexist trolls is a worthy task in and of itself.

Days 3,4: agriturismo viaF and Pienza

Today we are making our way to the Agriturismo Passalacqua, where Glenn stayed one night whilst doing the Via Francigena walk. This had been a particularly memorable rest point as he had done about 48kms that day and after asking a man where was the place he was looking for and the man had pointed to far-off hill town. Glenn’s blood ran cold as he pondered doing another 10-15 kms and the man said why don’t you stay here at my daughter and son-in-law’s agriturismo? Oh bless San Francesco said Glenn and within the space of 15mins he was sitting at a table overlooking the valley with a large, icy beer in hand! A fabulous meal followed and the genial Elena and Matteo added to a fond memory of how a very tough day turned into a blessedly welcome restpoint.

We choose a route that also takes in another of Glenn’s stops along the Via - the Abbazia Di San Salvatore, an abbey dating back to 12th century. It’s Sunday and the town is celebrating a religious event as well as First Communion ceremonies in the Abbey. We watch the festivities and are just as fascinated by the family rituals of the First Communion as the religious ritual of the procession. Everybody has donned their finery and the children of honour are kissed, hugged and pinched and obviously feel much love. We walk through and down to the crypts - a beautiful space of intricately carved marble columns, cool and quiet of the festivities above.

As we drive away and see a few more of the ViaF waymarkings, I am struck by the enormity of the walk and turn to Glenn to say “you know, it’s blowing my mind that you walked all this way!” and he replied, “you know, I’m thinking the same thing?”

A pleasant stop at a little roadside trattoria for a break under a vine-covered patio and enjoy watching a couple of adult family groups enjoying a casual Sunday lunch. The food looks amazing, no fuss or pretension, the waitstaff so on-the-ball yet low-key. We want to pull up our seats and join in but a few minutes later arrive at Passalacqua. A young man approaches and Glenn calls “Matteo!?” “No, io sono Francesco” 😳🤔 thinks Glenn. We’re shown to our rustic yet comfortable room (actually huge apartment) and within an hour are sitting at a table in the garden under a huge pinecone-laden tree, with a million-dollar view, chin-chinning with Aperol and Prosecco aperitivos.

Dinner will be in the garden says Francesco, what time would you like? The ‘tramonto’ (sunset) will be lovely and will not be dark till after 9pm? So, in the garden we sit, at a red-checked cloth table with flowers and candle as Francesco serves us crostoni of ricotta and wild onion, pici (Tuscany’s specialty pasta) with tomato, sweet garlic and basil, homemade sausage with raw artichoke salad, green salad and simple steamed potatoes studded with mint and olive oil, washed down with a wonderful house red. Coffee and cantucci with vin santo to sweeten the dream!

Elena has been the cook extraordinaire and has greeted us warmly...”Leh-daa!” and has filled Glenn in on the departure of Matteo and how good it is to now have Francesco (so strong!) by her side. Ah-ha! all is explained.

Francesco once again serves our simple yet perfect breakfast - yoghurt and berries, small pots of scrambled eggs, tomato bruschetta and the lemon cake he’d made himself. Strong, I’ll say! Another warm farewell after Elena shows me some antique botanical prints she’d discovered and we talk of their trip to Australia to satisfy their passion for diving. Once again, we feel the warmth of friendship.

TO PIENZA BUT FIRST...

Francesco recommends a few ‘don’t miss’ stops on our way to Pienza and the first is Bagni Vignoni, medieval thermal springs which ingeniously made use of water via a huge rectangular tank for milling grains. Very pretty. On to San Quirico d’Orcia, located in the centre of the Val d’Orcia, with more than a 1000 year history with ViaF. Stunning Renaissance Horti Leonini gardens, fortified walls, quartieri flags labeling their boundaries in preparation for festivities. Moving onwards through more of that landscape: endless golden wheat fields, undulating green hills, avenues of cypress trees along curving roads. Enchanting.

Montecchiello, Francesco’s favourite is indeed a gem. Medieval borgo village with ramparts dating back to 943 with a fascinating history, another of the hamlets caught up in the ongoing wars between Florence and Siena for supremacy. A spot of lunch at La Porta cantina and if you go, try for a table on the terrazza with superb views back over the valley.

Pienza, an Unesco world heritage site is our overnight and pleasingly it’s a rare hilltop town in that it’s mostly flat! Lovely piazza, Duomo, palazzi and as you stroll, thrilling glimpses, through arches and walkways, down on to the valley and surrounding mounts.

Lucky to score a table at Francesco’s recommended Da Fiorella and it’s wonderful. Coniglio! 🐰 🙋‍♀️🙊and Glenn has perfect gnocchi.

More Pienza exploring and see a marble plaque in a city gateway to the Pienzanesi who lost their lives when it was bombed in 1944 with a postscript honouring the children killed whilst playing when a hidden incendiary exploded a few months later.

Spend some time sitting in the park reading up on our next destination, Montepulciano.
