As the foremost Chole expert which starter would she pick for each generation?
You know I was gonna say 'mostly fire types' then I went down the list lmao
Gen 1- Charmander
Bonus Gen 1 - Eevee
Gen 2 - Totodile (reminds her of Fang)
Gen 3 - Treeko. Gotta have that cool factor
Gen 4 - Piplup!
Gen 5 - hm. I think she'd have a tough time choosing this time. I'm gonna lean Snivy though?
Gen 6 - Fennekin! 100%
Gen 7 - Popplio because she is a Fairy Type at heart!!(seriously the pokemon au gives her a Fairy team)
Gen 8 - Grookie! Tempted to say Scorbunny because it reminds her of Alix lmao but honestly she likes the little monkey!
Bonus Gen 8 - Cyndaquil Hisui version!
Gen 9 - Sprigatito but Fuecoco holds a special place in her heart!

!!!Warning!!!
Minor spoilers about Fuecoco's and Quaxly's evolutions below the cut.
My first reaction to Crocalor
Tumblr media
I don't have the game early. Just looking at the starter leaks to make my decision. It's not helping.
Skeledirge looks fucking sick and I don't know how I feel about Quaquaval. Sprigatito's line however is just not doing it for me. I don't know if I'm gonna pick Quaxly or Fuecoco.
Controversial opinion: Quite a few of these new Pokemon designs are kinda bad, if not irksome. I feel like Pokemon is gonna take a massive L this time around, but Imma wait to actually play the game to speak more on these designs.

omg hi scarvi talk ❤️ so the starters' final evos are themed after different spanish celebrations. sprigatito isnt puss in boots (thats italian/french in origin anyways) it's the masquerade festival, fuecoco is spain's day of the dead, and quaxly is carnival. i really like the ideas behind the designs but i wholeheartedly agree that theyre kind of weak. my personal fav is fuecoco's but i wouldve picked sprig as my fav if the final had a better balance of colours like the middle stage...the pink accent just doesnt work placed directly against the lighter green like that and i dont like the paw shape 💔
Ohhh I was trying to pin what quaxlys was reminding me of i didnt know spain celebrated carnival (or day of the dead but that one i just assumed from the design). I figured I was wrong abt sprigs but 2 outta 3 aint bad lol. Ive been ITCHING to talk about the designs but I know ppl are serious abt spoilers so I'm keepin as quiet as I can. sprigs final makes me so....like its just a few touch ups away from perfection I wish the dark colors were leaned into more </3 i like the paw shape but wish it had the cuffs the second one has. i want to like fuecoco cause i know its gonna b a ghost and ghost/fire is one of my fave types but i dont like its build too much 😔 comparing the starters to most of the other new paldean pokemon is wild cause i thought this gen wasnt gonna look that great to me but alot of them look really really nice its just the starters for me (and the violet paradoxes ig but thats a whole different thing)

New Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet, my thoughts! Spoilers obviously.
A bit of a disclaimer but I haven't seen most of these in motion, and sometimes a species' entire quirk or charm appeal is conveyed by gameplay, so it's very possible I may change my tune about many of these later on.
So, for starters... the starters! I actually think they are all pretty good this gen!
*Sprigatito line: you know me, I was hoping it would go bipedal and luckily it got a pretty cool theme going on as a magician. That's fun.
*Fuecoco line: HONESTLY in love with these. I thought the egg that the second stage carries was a sombrero when I first saw it, so I was worried it'd be another Ludicolo situation, but I love the idea of a croc Pokémon that also comes with An Additional Creature to mimick how crocs will sometimes ferry a bird and allow it to pick stuff off their teeth. It's a very inventive idea ESPECIALLY for a starter! My first playthrough pick for sure.
Quaxly line: The ugly duckling of sorts evolves into a very flamboyant peacock-duck hybrid. It's got pretty cool animations, seeming to always be dancing. Miror B is sweating.
*Pawmi line: Honestly a pretty good visual demonstration of why Pikaclones don't usually evolve. I like the idea of its ability, but design wise these could have very easily been one or two stages.
*Smoliv line: Honestly? Outsold. The final evolution was one I didn't think they would have made that cool, but it actually rocks.
*Wattrel line: The first stage is pretty boring, which is kind of a pattern this gen, but I love the second one being a frigate bird with an electric sac. Another one I want for my team.
*Nacl line: MINECRAFT.
*Maschiff line: Honestly my first disappointment. I liked the first stage, but the second doesn't change a lot except for losing the fun coloration? they both kinda just look like an irl dog. Not very exciting.
*Greavard line: I think the first stage was universally beloved, but the second is gonna be polarizing. That said, I'm a HUGE fan. I love how it actually evolved into a spooky creacher with a skeletal look, and I can't not admire the gumption of how its disguise-candle became A TOMBSTONE.
*Lechonk line: Lechonk evolving to be yassified was unexpected but very fun. I like both its gender dysmorphic (maybe) forms, they're simple but very cute.
*Fidough line: Honestly just very good and cute. Making it a dachshund was a good decision and it has a fun ability to play off its design as a toasted bun.
*Tarountula line: I've seen a lot of hate for it but while the first one is kind of underwhelming, I was the only one in that group who got the soldier motif and I think the evolution is great. This gen has great bugs and I'm always happy to see that.
*Nymble line: Kamen Rider grasshoppers. I don't think I need to explain why that's cool.
*Flittle line: BABY. A LOT of mons this gen are microorganisms, and it doesn't always work but I do love this one. Garrish colors match the psychic type well, and its ostrich evolution is super cool.
*Finizen line: First form is cute and simple and we were late indeed for a dolphin Pokémon... sadly, its evolution kind of sucks, not gonna lie... I don't think anyone in the thread liked it at all. Everyone was saying it has an alternate evolution, but it turned out to be more of a form change that makes its evolved form BECOME the Super Hero Dolphin.
*Gimmighoul line: This is one I don't quite know what to think of yet, but if anything, I admire the creativity to make That what it turns into, even if I'm not personally sure I like it. Certainly one of the more outlandish designs this gen.
*Tinkatink line: VERY fun to have a pink cute creature wielding a huge steel hammer. I like that it's going through its Joker Arc. And with THAT move? Girlboss.
*Flamigo: Guys this is quite literally just the animal. Like, outright. I'm not sure what was the idea, but also I DID hear it looks more fun in motion so who knows.
*Tandemaus line: Just Two Guys. I think they're cute, and the fact that they just have kids when they evolve is cute, but also their individual designs are too simple in my opinion.
*Squawkabilly: VERY good. So good, in fact, that it was also my idea for my own fanregion, so... so much for that! The Rockabilly aesthetic is fun.
*Rellor line: I thought I wasn't going to like what they were doing with the dung beetle 'mon but damn that evolution looks amazing.
*Bombirdier: AAAAUGGGG BOMBER CRANE MY BELOVED.
*Bramblin line: Same deal with Rellor that I think the base form looks whatever but the evolution is great.
*Orthworm: I agree with a friend who said it shouldn't have eyes or mouth (certainly not both bc it looks like a snake otherwise) but I'm more mystified by how it summons pseudofeet from its collar. I dig it though.
*Tatsugiri & Dondozo: VERY FUN. A fish Pokémon who pretends it's a teeny piece of sushi but then commandeers a big catfish from inside? It even comes in different colors.
*Glimmet line: I need 7 of these in my room Thank You.
*Varoom line: The Team Star car engine WAS a Pokémon all along! We were right!!!
*Shroodle line: WHAT IS UP WITH GRAFAIAI'S PRE-EVO LMFAO
*Frigibax line: LOVE it. Classic case of awkward first and second stage dragons who become great, an ice type spinosaurus in their case, let's goooooo.
*Paldean Wooper line: GREAT remix of a great Pokémon. A large plush of Clodsire could fix me.
*Paldean Tauros: I had a feeling we were gonna have less Regional Variants from how they've only shown us 1 officially thus far. This said, I think the base form for it is very boring - it's just a black Tauros with slightly shorter horns and one less tail... LUCKILY, this one has two separate forms. Fire/Fighting and Water/Fighting and I do think both look very cool.
*Annihilape: Primeape got so angry it died oh my god. It looks very badass, too.
*Kingambit: Super cool. Bisharp was a good pick for an evolution. Don't have much to say on it.
*Dudunsparce: While I think Dunsparce getting an evolution will make a lot of people happy, I've seen many disappointed it didn't turn into like a Dragon or whatever. I think the idea of a Big and Bigger Dunsparce is funny. I like this one and think it's a better fit for a tsuchinoko.
*Wiglett line: Wiglett is a funny fella, and Wugtrio turned into pretty much exactly what I imagined it would.
*Toedscool line: The other convergent line, Toedscool is amazing, honestly. A mushroom Pokémon that looks like a Tentacool and Tentacruel is such a cool idea. To see what you assume to be a jellyfish walking on land is great.
*Legendary Quartet: Rapid-fire thoughts but I like the idea that all of these are sealed and their vessels are incorporated in their designs. Individually: Snow Leopard outsold. I don't know what I'm looking at with the Deer. The flame Fish seems like it could use more workshopping. The Snail is an absolute legend (literally) and my friend.
*Paradox Pokémon: REALLY COOL MECHANIC. I like them more than megas tbh. I have no idea why they waited until now to reveal them. I know some are disappointed that Violet's all share a theme of looking robotic, but I still think they look better than other Scarlet ones and I think robots are cool. I understand that they have Titles instead of names and I do think it's cool but I'm gonna refer to them as the Paradox forms of the Pokémon they're based on, even if they're not form changes per se. Individually:
*Paradox Donphan: I think the Scarlet version one looks cooler, because the Violet one kinda doesn't look like an elephant anymore.
*Paradox Volcarona: These are both amazing. I think a Volcarona that takes more after Larvesta is a good idea, and the Violet one looks almost like an angelic robot which rocks, and the Poison type is a plus.
*Paradox Jigglypuff: I do really like how not all Paradoxes are fully evolved Pokémon but I do think this one's a flop.
*Paradox Misdreavus: See above and what I said about Scarlet's.
*Paradox Gallavoir: This one is. Awesome! Essentially an androgynous robot version of a Gallade+Gardevoir fusion who's Fairy/Fighting. Nothing could be cooler.
*Paradox Delibird: HOW they managed to make Delibird cool is beyond me but they sure did do it!
*Paradox Magneton: Magneton with legs is CRAZY. I Iove it.
*Paradox Hariyama: Not my favorite still but it looks much cooler than its OG self.
*Paradox Salamence: The clear favorite and for a good reason, too. It looks amazing. I get why many Violet preorders were canned over it. It's cool how it kinda retroactively explains its Mega too.
*Paradox Hydreigon: I am legit surprised they made a Robot Hydreigon but DIDN'T use its beta design from BW's development, as it was going to be a tank. That said, it still looks dope
*Paradox Amoonguss: I love this thing. Not the most dramatic change from its present self but it's ok by me.
*Paradox Tyranitar: MY personal favorite. It has such a good color scheme with what look like LED spikes on its body. It's also very clearly based on Mecha Godzilla (and the RoboTyranitar from Pokéstar studios) and IIIII adore it.

more AU explanations
Gonna make more explanation rambles with my designs for the protagonist duo, friend group and the professors in my AU
Florian - red fox I don't like to headcanon the protagonist duos as siblings, and I just have the habit of making them different species/breeds. Usually I end up making the protagonists dogs, cats or foxes (aside from Nate and Rosa). I was struggling to think of an animal for Florian, but I settled on a red fox, as it's an alliteration with his name, plus the Pokemon I usually associate Florian with is either Fuecoco (also starts with the letter F) or Quaxly (foxes eat ducks).
Juliana - wild cat Again, I don't like to headcanon the protagonist duos as siblings, and I just have the habit of making them different species/breeds (usually dogs, cats or foxes). I was just looking up animals that live in Spain, and I noticed European wildcats live in Spain, so I made Juliana one of those kitties. Also, the Pokemon I tend to associate Juliana with is Sprigatito, who is also a cat.
Nemona - shepherd dog Nemona just gives me dog girl vibes, and I initially chose a basque shepherd dog for her as it's a Spanish dog breed. However, I noticed the way I drew her, plus her personality resembles a golden shepherd (golden retriever + german shepherd mix), so I'll let you interpret her as either, but I might be leaning towards the golden shepherd. Arven - iberian lynx/platinum fox hybrid People are gonna argue with me on the fact that I should've made Arven a dog, but I'm not changing the species. See the part where I explain professor Sada and Turo for an explanation (since this pick was last minute when I found out he's their son).
Penny - flemish giant bunny/red fox hybrid I was originally gonna make her a cat/bunny hybrid as I wasn't sure what I wanted to draw her as, but then I remembered this drawing and the fact that she loves Eevee. Also unintentionally captures both sides of her personality. One side is where she's shy and meek, and the other side where she's sneaky and cunning.
Professor Sada - iberian lynx I saw a drawing of Sada on all fours with a Lechonk in her mouth and hissing at Turo. That just struck me as an Iberian lynx and I just stuck with it. Gave her a pair of sabre fangs to go with her past motto. Some of my friends/buds happened to really like my lynx Sada pick, so I stuck with that.
Professor Turo - platinum fox Based off of the slang, silver fox, as well as all of the Turo gigachad comparison memes just made me want to put him as a fox. That's all I'll say since that was the only thing I could think of Turo as.

Alright!! I didn't have a lot of time to play yesterday, but I shall tell y'all what I did do!
(Censored for spoilers)
At the beginning of the game, you can customize your character however the heck you want, which is heckin' awesome!! I made them look as close to Thai as I could get ✨ I spent a lot of time doing this because my Switch controls are a little drifty, but I got it finished at last! I went downstairs to go say hi to my mom (there was no loading screen, which was cool) and then the Principle, (Clavel I think) came over and started talking words. Also, he uh- called me 'Master Thai' which was really weird to experience X"D I...I never expected anyone to call Thai that.
Him and my mom have a cup of tea, and I go upstairs to get my bag and very stupid looking hat that I am going to remove asap. Then I come back downstairs, Clavel says more words, then he takes me outside and lets out the three starter Pokemon for me to spend some time with as we walk over to this big house across the road. My mom gives me a Rotom Phone, and then we're off!
I didn't spend too much time interacting with the starters since I already knew which one I was gonna pick, so I just interacted with Fuecoco a couple times. Then when I get to the place, the starters run around and do stuff, and then Nemona shows up and is like "HI WILL YOU BE FRIEND???" To which I respond 'No' to because I'm playing as Thai and I'm trying to pick the options he most likely would. Nemona's just like, "Awwww, did I scare you a bit? I didn't mean to D:" And...no, she didn't really, Thai just doesn't want friends. Anyways, I then get to choose my starter!! I immediately pick Fuecoco and name them Cinnamon (they/them)!! After I chose them, it showed this little animation of them balancing on my arm- which. How is that even physically possible??? XD Yeah it looked a bit silly because Fuecoco is a round friend. Then after that, Nemona picks Sprigatito to join her team and challenges me to a battle down at the beach. I pick up a potion on the way there and then join her. She's about to send out one of her regular Pokèmon, which scares me for a split second, but then Clavel reminds her to go easy on me and she just sends out her Sprigatito, which I quickly destroy with a couple Embers to the face. Nemona's just like "GREAT JOB :D" and. REVEALS SHE'S OF THE CHAMPION RANK. Like. WHAT-
Um.. I'm a little scared of battling her in the future X"D
Anyways, Clavel tells her to take me under her wing, and she's like, "OKEY :D" and then runs off to teach me how to catch Pokèmon, which is where I left off. I will update y'all again today for more info when I get more time to play! ^^

Oh my gosh Scarlet really hid some features from their marketing strat huh :D
I'm quite happy with that approach, keep it up! Spoilers under the cut!
Namely, the school actually plays like a school and isn't just a setting, as we actually have lessons to take and exams to do. Oh boy, I'm suddenly back to studying I see, haha. But I'm liking it, as it could help children be motivated to learn at school? The teachers in this game so far are written so lively and enjoyable, like oh my gosh :D This is how teaching should be like!
Oh, and I am one of those who is so very glad starter evos don't get spoiled anymore, because figuring out the starter evolutions during the journey is so much fun! My starter has now fully evolved and honestly, Sprigatito line is absolutely beautiful and perfection. I love it a ton, and glad to see a Grass/Dark typing in starters now! Makes me wonder what the other two are like :D Iono's city had banners of the evos for Fuecoco and Quaxly (and Nemona's had evolved) so I can say that I love where Quaxly is going, and.... glad I didn't pick Fuecoco in the end, haha. I'm not digging what I'm seeing in in-universe ads lol. Maybe I'm just confused.
Anywho. Gonna try doing the exams today and then maaaaybe explore east side for a change? I reached the mining town and gotta admit, didn't like it much, it was veeeeery boring. There's really not much to do at cities and towns in this game, now is there? No wonder they didn't market them.
What else... so many new 'mon met, and all three storylines are keeping the interest levels up for me. Path of Legends has me most intriqued, Operation Starfall possibly second? The League route honestly is mostly meh for me, and well, the performance during those dips the most so that might affect my mood on it :'D We'll see how it goes.

Highlights from my trip to Paldea so far:
-Finally having aquamarine as a hair color option
-Just the way little Fuecoco runs honestly I was gonna pick him anyway but it's no contest
-Beating up Team Star goons because their aggressive recruitment practices are bad I need money to buy new tights
-How terrifying the Titans are not just because they're big but because they're treated as threats by the story/characters and Iron Treads ran me over in the middle of a trainer battle
-Encountering a wild Terastallized Sandygast (My Boi!!) with Grass Tera Type which is perfect for his Giga Drain
-Feeding poor Smoliv to my Skeledirge when he suddenly refuses to attack one of them because OMG he can tell it's a shiny he has a black olive friend now
-Running laps around the Cascarrafa arena with my Bramblin to evolve him before the battle and wondering if he's ready to evolve yet when he starts happily rolling in circles around me with little music notes above his head my heart
-Just caught another wild Terastallized Falinks with Steel Tera Type which I'm honestly surprised wasn't its secondary type already
-Finding out Atticus designed Team Star's clothes and seeing how real their personalities are compared to literally any other Pokémon NPC's
-Riding along the edge of the crater and finding out that Magnezone lives there and Garchomp's model actually flies like a jet and I love them both so much
