I'm usually unbothered emotionally by in-universe bad things happening to my Blorbos, unless it's done in a way where the writing is weak or the characterisation feels off. however.

when anything slightly bad or vaguely irritating happens to Bertha Russell, I feel a fury in my soul that knows no bounds. she should never even have a headache. she should never have to talk to anyone who isn't nice to her. everyone should say yes to everything she asks for, forever. I would worship her as a god.

I've probably said this before but I live for the way in which the New Crew are all uniquely scary:

The Bellhop is capricious and lives for gore and graphic violence. She'll slice you open just to look at the meat inside you.

The Auditor's scary because you never know where she is until it's much too late. And by then, it's game over. You're frozen in time but she can move.

The Concierge is scary because you think "oh here's a normal human." But no!! And when the Concierge hunts you down he walks.

good. i am glad you have them in the mind 2 okay imagine this. youre a foreigner from the nether, you're new to the overworld and you're staying at one of the empires on a diplomatic exchange and you hear about the ruler of this one empire because for some reason people really like to gossip about him. and you well you don't get it. i mean you've seen the guy (does he always wear the mask?), you've seen his empire, you've even talked to him. He's nice but you don't get the appeal. But then you kept bumping into him, kept talking to him, and you get it now. so you're screwed. You're crushing hard on this guy who's totally way out of your league, almost everyone want him, and also doesn't he have a thing with the ruler of Rivendell? so yeah. he's screwed.

Anyways, this is just from my own little story in my head. i wish there was more!
