Alright people. Buckle up cus it's finally time i tell you the history of Animal Crossing!!!! (After putting it off for awhile)
Originally named どうぶつの森 (Doubutsu no mori) in Japan meaning Animal Forest. It was introduced at Spaceworld 2000 in Japan and many people have claimed there was a playable demo there. I believe there is a bit if footage you can find on it but I may be wrong.
Doubutsu no mori released on April 14, 2001 on the Nintendo 64 exclusively in Japan. Only 8 months later on December 14, 2001 they released Doubutsu no mori + for the Gamecube which contained extra features left out of the 64 version such as the museum and the Able sisters (along with house upgrades I believe) and used the Gamecube's built in clock.
Finally, they localised and released the game under the title Animal Crossing: Population Growing in North America on September 16, 2002, Australia on October 17, 2003, and Europe on September 24, 2004 on the Gamecube
However, on June 27, 2003 Japan release yet another version of the game titled Doubutsu no mori e+ where they added even more new features for villagers such as: extended dialogue, the best friend system, sickness, likes/hates, catching fleas, etc. In this version of the game you could use the e card reader to obtain certain items. In this version of the game you could also buy an island from Tom Nook which you could access through Kapp'n. Once you got to this island you could name it, create a flag, and download it onto your Gameboy Advance to continue interacting with your islander or even trade islands with other players.
Animal Crossing Wild World released for the Nintendo DS in Japan on November 23, 2005, North America and Australia on December 5, 2005, and in Europe sometime in March of 2006.
On June 1, 2006 a Chinese version of Doubutsu no mori called 动物森林 (Dòngwù Sēnlín) was released for the iQue Player, a Chinese Nintendo console. Dòngwù Sēnlín is the original N64 version of the game despite featuring characters from Doubutsu no mori + on the cover.
Animal Crossing City Folk was releases in North America November 16, 2008 for the Wii followed by its release in Japan on November 20, 2008, Australia on December 4, 2008, and Europe on December 5, 2008. City Folk was compatible with the Wii Speak microphone, which allowed you to talk to other players who had it- essentially a form of voice chat. Fun fact: there's an add for the game where it is featured being used!!! One feature i absolutely love in this game is the fountain , where you can throw an axe into it and a special character named Serena will appear and she is how you obtain both the silver and golden axe.
Now onto Animal Crossing New Leaf was released for the Nintendo 3DS in Japan and South Korea on February 7, 2013. After that, it released internationally across June of 2003: June 9 in North America, June 14 in Europe, and June 15 in Australia.
Animal Crossing Happy Home designer was released for the 3DS in Japan on July 30, 2015, North America on September 25, Europe on October 2, and Australia on October 3. This game was very different from the others and the main goal was to design houses for villagers.
In November of 2015 we were cursed with Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival for the Wii U. The game only sold 490,000 copies and was considering a failure.
Animal Crossing Pocket Camp was released on Android and iOS mobile devices on October 25, 2017 and 40 other territories on November 22, 2017- but other sources say it was the 21. Sadly, in the last year we received news that it will be shutting down, but apparently from what i know they will be making another version of it or something of the sort.
Animal Crossing New Horizons was released on March 20, 2020 internationally for the Nintendo Switch. This game introduced DIY crafting and in later updates, cooking. Eventually they added the Happy Home Paradise DLC on November 5, 2021 which essentially functions like Happy Home Designer, but unlocks new skill you can use on your island.
I must say, we've come a longggggg way with this game. It helped a lot of people through 2020- including me. Can't wait to see what's in store for us next. Hope you enjoyed learning about the history of the games and if you would like to know more (like stuff about merch or even the movie) ask away! :D

SpaceTime -- A brief history
SpaceTime is Australia’s most popular and respected astronomy and space science news program – averaging over two million downloads every year. We’re also number five in the United States. The show reports on the latest stories and discoveries making news in astronomy, space flight, and science. SpaceTime features weekly interviews with leading Australian scientists about their research. The show began life in 1995 as ‘StarStuff’ on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s (ABC) NewsRadio network. Award winning investigative reporter Stuart Gary created the program during more than fifteen years as NewsRadio’s evening anchor and Science Editor. Gary’s always loved science. He studied astronomy at university and was invited to undertake a PHD in astrophysics, but instead focused on his career in journalism and radio broadcasting. Gary’s radio career stretches back some 34 years including 26 at the ABC. He worked as an announcer and music DJ in commercial radio, before becoming a journalist and eventually joining ABC News and Current Affairs. He was part of the team that set up ABC NewsRadio and became one of its first on air presenters. When asked to put his science background to use, Gary developed StarStuff which he wrote, produced and hosted, consistently achieving 9 per cent of the national Australian radio audience based on the ABC’s Nielsen ratings survey figures for the five major Australian metro markets: Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, and Perth. The StarStuff podcast was published on line by ABC Science -- achieving over 1.3 million downloads annually. However, after some 20 years, the show finally wrapped up in December 2015 following ABC funding cuts, and a redirection of available finances to increase sports and horse racing coverage. Rather than continue with the ABC, Gary resigned so that he could keep the show going independently. StarStuff was rebranded as “SpaceTime”, with the first episode being broadcast in February 2016. Over the years, SpaceTime has grown, more than doubling its former ABC audience numbers and expanding to include new segments such as the Science Report -- which provides a wrap of general science news, weekly skeptical science features, special reports looking at the latest computer and technology news, and Skywatch – which provides a monthly guide to the night skies. The show is published three times weekly (every Monday, Wednesday and Friday) and available from the United States National Science Foundation on Science Zone Radio, and through both i-heart Radio and Tune-In Radio.

2024 Archive of Our Own Wrapped
Since @spicedrobot was kind enough to share this 2024 AO3 Wrapped template, I decided to fill it out as an excuse to talk about my writing attempts for the year. And because I didn't feel like stopping there, I have also taken inspiration from another wrapped template I found by dreputationera~ ^^
AO3 Username: Girly411
Total Kudos: 6
Comment Threads: 3
Bookmarks: 2
Total Subs: 4 (I'm counting this as fic subs, not user subs)
Word Count: 13,353
Total Hits: 180
This year, my AO3 account has seen the most activity since its creation in 2015 because I finally cross-posted my backlog of old FFN fics. Five of those fics were updated with new chapters that I had forgotten to post years ago when I actually wrote them, so after subtracting them from the word count I ended up with a pretty small but not insignificant number... because I'm a wordy bitch. uwu
Most Popular Fic In 2024: Stay Cool (It's Just A Kiss)
Hits: 36
Kudos: 2
Comments: 2
Bookmarks: 0
I won't even pretend to wonder why this, out of the three new fics I managed to post this year, got the most attention. It may be about my beloved Ichiban/Ryuu rareship, but that Io & Ryuu tag is no doubt pulling in curious readers! Chapter 2 will be done as soon as I can shake the words for one more scene out of my brain, but I'm just grateful that y'all are giving my ship a chance even if I'm still slow at writing it. ;;3;; <3
Fav Fic You Wrote In 2024: Into The Deep
Hits: 8
Kudos: 0
Comments: 0
Bookmarks: 0
While I love all three of the fics I wrote this year for different reasons, Into The Deep holds an even more special place in my heart simply for the childhood nostalgia I have for the Hidden Expedition series. I started writing it because I wanted to manage my expectations by writing something short for a basically nonexistent fandom and I succeeded at that! But I expected 0 hits and somehow there are (potentially) 8 people out there staring at me silently asdhklf please tell me your thoughts X'D
Most Written Rating: Teen and Up Audiences
Most Written Category: Gen
Most Written Fandom: Boueibu and High School Musical are tied, marking two distinct and formative eras of my life that will remain a part of me forever
Most Written Relationships: Ryan Evans & Sharpay Evans (my fixation on their sibling relationship in high school really says so much about me) and Naruko Io/Zaou Ryuu (where would I be without my Boueibu ships truly)
Favorite Characters To Write: Ryan Evans, Sharpay Evans, and Original Characters top the charts from my high school era because I desperately needed someone to project onto and that hasn't changed! Nowadays, I'm not sure if I have a specific favorite character to write, but I do really love writing the Loveless (and other side characters) in my Boueibu fics~ <3
Favorite Additional Tags: Humor, Fluff, Romance, Friendship, and Crack seem to be the tags I'm most drawn to. Angst should probably be in there too because that accounts for a lot of what I write! XD
Favorite Dialogue Snippet/Paragraph You Wrote: Truthfully, most of that can be found in this tag game here, but this part of A Rose's Thorns still makes my heart wibble. ;;w;;
Chizuru let her fingers find their way into the hair at the nape of his neck as she thought it through. He would need a trim soon and she was quite good with a pair of scissors. His face and voice were kind, and his heart was strong. It would be nice to come home to him. Someday.
WIP Ideas For Next Year: There is a mountain of old WIPs sitting in my archive that I plan to (hopefully) chip away at, especially my rareship fics! Boueibu is still a pretty big focus for me because I have so much left unfinished (and new ideas crawling into my brain all the time), but maybe I will manage to dip my fingers into some other fandoms as well. Goodness knows I also have so many WIPs hanging from FFN too. o.o'
What You Learned From Writing This Year: My 2017 burnout may have taken a huge toll on me, but the ability to write still lies deep within my brain. Having an ample supply of WIPs to rework/continue has been crucial to getting me back into the habit as long as I have the health/energy to stick with the simple method that I know has always worked for me (yet every time I'm still surprised):
1) write at least one sentence a day, it doesn't even have to be good or a complete thought meant to be part of the same scene, it's just practice and the rest will come together later
2) write it bad, write it the worst it's ever been written, and then rework it later with fresh eyes, just get SOMETHING out of the brain and onto the page
3) writing is fun, just do whatever sparks joy, you make the rules uwu
I'm also a lot lonelier than I ever was at any other point in my writing journey. Many things have changed in my life and I have less people (and animal companions) around me to share my enthusiasm with now. I have to learn how to cope with that because it's been very hard, especially when the larger fandom culture has shifted so completely to private groups and a reluctance to offer kind words to creators in lieu of companies largely treating us like content farms.
My main fandoms are small (or nonexistent) and my friends are busy/tired/interested in other things (all of which is fair and understandable), so part of this is my fault for not being where the people are.... but for now I will continue to reach out to writers and artists to let them know their work has been appreciated and hope that eventually comes back around to being the norm again.

Mi affido a Luca.

Graphic Design Trends (2011–2015) – The Fall of Texture, Rise of Flat
If 2016–2020 was the era of refinement, then 2011–2015 was the disruption phase. Digital design shifted dramatically, moving away from realism toward simplicity and usability. Flat design didn’t just arrive—it stormed in, kicked over the bookshelf, and changed everything.
📱 1. Flat Design Goes Mainstream
The early 2010s brought a rejection of skeuomorphism—the style that mimicked real-world textures (wood, leather, shadows). Apple’s shift from iOS 6 to iOS 7 in 2013 was the watershed moment. Suddenly, icons were flat, colors were bold, and gradients were exiled.
Why it mattered:
Flat design prioritized clarity and speed
It was easier to scale across responsive devices
It looked “modern” and digital-native
Popularized by: Microsoft’s Metro UI and Apple’s iOS 7. Google soon followed with Material Design in 2014 (but that’s more next article).
🎯 2. Focus on UI/UX Simplicity
As mobile apps boomed, user experience became the center of attention. Designers trimmed the fat from interfaces, removing clutter in favor of clean navigation and touch-friendly elements.
Key trends:
Larger buttons
Minimal menus
Icon-based navigation
Mobile-first mindset
Tools like Sketch (launched in 2010) gained traction as designers ditched Photoshop for digital-focused UI work.
🎨 3. Vibrant Colors & Minimal Palettes
This era loved two extremes:
Bright, punchy neons and primary colors (think Windows 8)
Or ultra-minimal color schemes (black, white, grey + 1 accent color)
Color wasn't just for decoration—it was used for hierarchy, feedback, and accessibility.
✍️ 4. Typography Goes Digital-Friendly
Web typography got a serious glow-up in this era:
Web-safe fonts evolved to include open-source options like Google Fonts.
Sans-serif fonts ruled: Helvetica, Open Sans, Lato, and Roboto were in every designer’s toolbox.
Designers used font weight and size creatively to guide user flow—bold headlines, clean body text.
It wasn’t fancy, but it was functional and consistent.
💡 5. Responsive Design Becomes Mandatory
The age of one-size-fits-all websites was over. Enter: responsive design. With the iPhone, iPad, and countless Android devices flooding the market, designers had to think in fluid grids, breakpoints, and scalable elements.
Milestones:
2010: Ethan Marcotte coins “responsive web design”
2011–2015: Every respectable site goes mobile-friendly or dies trying
🧰 6. Designers Shift Tools: Sketch Enters the Scene
Photoshop was great for photo editing. But for UI? It was... clunky. Enter Sketch, a vector-based tool tailored for interface and web design. By 2015, Sketch had become the go-to app for digital designers.
Why it changed the game:
Symbols and shared styles
Pixel-perfect precision
UI kits galore
🖌️ 7. Skeuomorphism Gets the Boot
Remember leather-bound calendar apps and felt-textured Game Centers? Yeah, Apple does too—and regrets it.
From 2013 onward, skeuomorphism was no longer considered “classy.” It was… cringe. Designers embraced flat shapes, simple icons, and clean surfaces.
Fun twist: That old leather calendar? It was actually based on the one in Steve Jobs’s yacht.
🤯 Unique Fact of the Day
When Apple launched iOS 7 with flat icons, it reportedly confused millions of users. The visual leap was so dramatic that many thought their phones had a bug. It sparked hundreds of memes—and a few app redesigns in panic.
🎨 Creative Challenge
Design a mock app dashboard using flat design principles:
No gradients, no shadows
Use bold color blocks
Stick to two fonts max
Keep spacing tight but readable
Extra credit: make it responsive across mobile, tablet, and desktop mockups.

↑ One of this program's key value propositions was our Enterprise Design Lab, a 3 day rapid co-design accelerator, in which we began by a deep-diving into the end-users day-in-the-life, workshopping the experience, and finishing with a high-fidelity prototype.

↑ One of my early workshops with JAL for their aircraft mechanic app, called Inspect + Turn, in the original Enterprise Design Lab on North Tantau, Cupertino.
↗ The second day involved an iterative cycle of whiteboard wireframes, where the design team would sketch and capture designs into an animatic, and playback to participating end-users, with a willingness to throw-away and rethink.

During the 8-14 development, we continued to test and refine our design, often on-site in the end-users real-world environment.
↑ Asset Care was an iPad app designed for excavators, to map and track deforestation, so vegetation and terrain could be restored after they had finished. Our participating German end-users didn't speak English well, so we eventually realized we needed to present our designs in their language.

↑ The main hallway inside IBM Almaden Research Center with the end-to-end mural of IBM's invention history, that includes its first patent for the meat slicer in 1911, Fortran, the Apollo Program, and quantum computing.
↗ Giving a talk on creativity to a group of researchers at IBM Research.
Our Travel + Transportation suite was the most complete set of enterprise iOS apps, and by 2017, covered end-to-end operations for airlines.
The apps were targeted at 4 primary roles, enabling them to have real-time untethered access to centralized mission-critical operational data.
Our Energy + Utilities suite was not as extensive, but combined a series of apps for renewable energy workers.

From 2017, we began to push innovation further with strategic foresight, exploring the future of travel, and working with Apple on designing solutions using emerging technologies such as point-to-point networking, AR, and AI.
↑ My talk on Innovating in Big Enterprise at our 2018 Aviation Summit covered a broad range of design-oriented practices and methods for driving and realizing innovation.
↗ Followed-up next year with a talk on Enterprise Futures, using strategic foresight to detect, discover, and predict emerging signals that influence or help to define product and business roadmaps.
↑ These were demonstrated in new apps for in-cabin collaboration, baggage gate-checks, ramp loading, and airport customer service.
↓ We even time-machined the future experience at the the T+T innovation fair in Abu Dhabi.
