Reposted from @norman_parkinson We are very saddened to hear about the passing of Raquel Welch, an icon of glamour. Norman Parkinson was lucky enough to photograph her in 1967 for American Vogue’s August issue wearing a coat by Cooper Couture. It was this year that Raquel’s career blossomed internationally, filming in Spain for ‘Fathom’ and in England for ‘Bedazzled.’ 📸 by Norman Parkinson / Iconic Images #normanparkinson #iconicimages #raquelwelch #americanvogue #vogue #voguemagazine #coopercouture #fathom #bedazzled #1960sfashion #60sfashion #fashionphotography #vintagefashion #1960sphotography #60sphotography #vintagephotography #photographyhistory #portraitphotography #colourphotography #death #rip#eugenelacroix1 @eugenelacroix1 #photography https://www.instagram.com/p/Cow1F2JIC_4/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Pop Polaroid “My idea of a good picture is one that’s in focus and of a famous person.” - Andy Warhol, Icon. Created in collaboration with the ‘Andy Warhol Foundation’ this book reveals hundreds of instant pictures by the artist. From self-portraits to still lives, anonymous nudes to New York high society, from Cabbage Patch dolls to Dolly Parton, Keith Haring to Audrey Hepburn, these impromptu images offer a unique record of the ‘Pop Art’ maestro’s world. A little bit about the inventor of ‘Polaroid’ - the man who really did imagine the future - a middle-aged guy in a suit and tie called Edwin H Land. It was Land who’d founded ‘Polaroid’ in the Thirties. Second only to Thomas Edison in the number of patents filed for inventions, he was idolised by Steve Jobs, who met him and constructed ‘Apple’ on the ‘Polaroid' model. Land begun by studying light polarisation with a view to reducing glare. He went on to refine ski and night-vision goggles as well as 3D glasses for the US Army and Navy. Land produced his first instant camera with self-developing film in 1947. In a 1970 ‘Polaroid’ promotional film, Land imagines a camera that “would be, oh, like the telephone - something you use all day long … a camera that you would use as often as your pencil or your eyeglasses”. ‘Andy Warhol. Polaroids 1958-1987, ‘The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, Inc.’, Published by ‘Taschen’. #neonurchin #neonurchinblog #dedicatedtothethingswelove #suzyurchin #ollyurchin #art #music #photography #fashion #film #design #words #pictures #polaroid #poppolaroid #popart #theandywarholfoundationforthevisualarts #edwinhland #artistsupportsystem #celebrity #iconicimages #modernistgiant #andywarhol #taschen #andywarholpolaroids https://www.instagram.com/p/CfGlgJbIwiJ/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

(I borrowed this cover of Drum magazine from Aspire Art Auctions.) Aside from my long-held love for this iconic magazine's covers, I have also always been drawn to the iconography of 'the boxer'. Perhaps it finds its roots in the early morning matches I'd watch with my dad on TV? The layers of what this particular kind of image means to me would take hours of writing to explore and explain, and I suppose... this is images are self-explanatory in a way which still somehow manages to retain their mystery --- an invitation to explore, not just the image, but yourself. 📷 @aspireartauctions #drummag #drummagazine #iconicimages #southafricanhistory #theboxer #boxingmatch https://www.instagram.com/p/CRlOFLyJ7sF/?utm_medium=tumblr

Pop Polaroid “A picture means I know where I was every minute. That’s why I take pictures. It’s a visual diary.” - Andy Warhol, Icon. Before there was Instagram, there was Warhol. Andy Warhol was a relentless chronicler of life and its encounters. Carrying a ‘Polaroid’ camera from the late 1950s until his death in 1987, he amassed a huge collection of instant pictures of friends, lovers, patrons, the famous, the obscure, the scenic, the fashionable - and himself. Created in collaboration with the ‘Andy Warhol Foundation’ this book features hundreds of these instant photos, many of them never seen before. Portraits of celebrities such as Mick Jagger, Alfred Hitchcock, Jack Nicholson, Yves Saint Laurent, Pelé, Debbie Harry are included alongside images of Warhol’s entourage and high life, landscapes and still-lifes from Cabbage Patch dolls to the iconic soup cans. Often raw and impromptu the ‘Polaroids’ document Warhol’s era, much as ‘Instagram’ captures our own, offering a unique record of the life, world and vision behind the ‘Pop Art' maestro and modernist giant. ‘Andy Warhol. Polaroids 1958-1987, ‘The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, Inc.’, Published by ‘Taschen’. #neonurchin #neonurchinblog #dedicatedtothethingswelove #suzyurchin #ollyurchin #art #music #photography #fashion #film #design #words #pictures #polaroid #poppolaroid #popart #theandywarholfoundationforthevisualarts #edwinhland #artistsupportsystem #celebrity #iconicimages #modernistgiant #andywarhol #taschen #andywarholpolaroids https://www.instagram.com/p/CfGlZ_YIQGx/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
