Summary: Dabi meets the love of his life and leaves the LoV to care for her and their new baby

TOOTH ROTTING FLUFF • no one is dead >:( • OOC Dabi, sue me!
Tumblr media
Being a parent was always something I dreamed about. When I was little, I used to imagine meeting the man of my dreams and starting a family with him as soon as possible. But with every failed relationship I seemed to have, my hopes that would happen diminished. I was walking home from the hospital I work at when I stumbled across a man with a long black coat and a scarred face. He had black hair and piercings and it looked like his scars had staples where they met the non-scarred skin. He was hunched over and clutching his stomach. I wearily approached him.
"Are you okay?" I asked hesitantly. The sound of my voice made his head shoot up, he looked my straight in my eyes. My [eye color] eyes met his icy blue ones.
"Obviously not," He replied through gritted teeth.
"I can help you, the hospital isn't too far-" he cut me off.
"I can't go to the hospital," He said.
"Why not?" I asked
"Just help me out and maybe I'll tell you afterward," He answered. I nodded and walked over to him.
"Here, I can help you walk. I'll take you to my house, it's not that far from here," I said with a smile. The man rolled his eyes at me and supported himself using my shoulder. We stumbled up a few blocks to my apartment building. It was a cheap place and looked run down, but the quality wasn't horrible. I couldn't complain.
"What happened?" I asked. We were now in my apartment and I had the stranger sitting on one of my kitchen chairs.
"I got stabbed. The fucker got me good too," the man replied.
"Can you uh... Take your shirt off?" I asked. The man smirked a bit at my awkwardness.
"Sure," He replied. He took off his jacket and shirt tauntingly slow. He never gave up eye contact either. He was well built and muscular. He had scars on his stomach that matched his face. A weird part of me found it attractive. But I quickly shook that thought and began working. I looked at the wound and my quirk told me everything I need to know.
My quirk was basically an X-ray without all the machines, and it gave me a description of the wound with what caused it. "You're lucky, if you were stabbed one inch to the right, it would've hit your intestines," I explained.
"How do you know? You haven't even touched me," he asked.
I hummed, "My quirk. Wasn't fit to be a pro, so I became a doctor." I walked away to grab a needle and thread to stitch him. "What's your deal? Are you in a gang or something?"
He hesitated, "You could say that."
I nodded, "Ah ok. At least you weren't some random civilian that got stabbed then."
"What? You think I deserved to be stabbed?" He asked.
"That's not what I meant. No one 'deserves' to be stabbed. I'm just saying crime has been on the rise and I'd hate it if someone defenseless got stabbed. But since you're in a sorta-gang or whatever, then you can handle yourself," I explained.
He scoffed, "Whatever. I kill people, you know. I could kill you right now."
I shrugged, "Doesn't matter. My job is helping the sick and injured, not persecuting them. And done. There, all stitched up and not bleeding."
"What already?" He asked. "I didn't even feel you start."
"Just another part of my quirk. When someone who's hurt talks to me, it gives the same effect painkillers would. Pretty nifty, huh?" I explained. "I'm Y/N by the way. If you're ever injured again, you can stop by. I usually get off work around 10 PM and go in at 8 AM."
"Dabi. I'll keep you to that offer," He simply said before putting his clothes back on and leaving.
"Take care, be safe," I said as I closed the door.
Tumblr media
The second time I saw him it was midnight and there were loud knocks at my door. Hurriedly, I rushed to the door and opened it. Dabi was there with a teenage girl in his arms. "I didn't know where else to go," he said. "Please."
"Don't just stand there! Put her on the counter!" I instructed. I pushed everything that was on my counter to the floor to make room for the girl. Dabi gently placed her down and I scanned her body. She had 2 stab wounds on her lower stomach and large lacerations on her arms and legs. "Who did this? What happened? Try waking her up, I need her to speak to me so she doesn't feel any pain."
"We were trying to get more recruits for our group. Apparently we messed with the wrong gang. They went crazy and started attacking us," Dabi explained. He tapped the girls face and gently woke her up.
"Where are we?" She asked.
"Hi, I'm Y/n and I'm going to help you out, okay? Can you tell me about yourself?" I was cleaning the cuts on her arm first. I couldn't start stitching the stab wounds until she was awake and speaking to me.
"My name is Himiko Toga. It's nice to meet you," she answered. I wrapped her arm with bandages and moved to her legs.
"Hi, sweetie. How old are you?" I asked. She was starting to get more awake and that's all I needed.
"I'm 16, how old are you?"
"I'm 22, do you feel any pain?"
She looked at her bloodied badge wildly, "No-no but I'm sure I should? I'm bleeding!"
"Don't worry, it's just my quirk. You're gonna be okay. Dabi, can you dress this real quick? I want to stitch her quickly before she loses too much blood," I asked.
Dabi nodded and grabbed the bandages from my hand. He wrapped her leg wounds as I started to stitch the first stab wound on her stomach. "I need you to keep talking to me, okay? It can be anything, just keep talking," I said. Himiko nodded.
"Well I saw this really cute kitten! It was adorable! It was so small. It was gray with brown spots! I'm gushing just thinking about it! While me and patchwork were on our mission, one of the gang members looked soooo cute! Her hair was really pretty. Almost as pretty as yours! You're really pretty, by the way. I bet you'd look even cuter if you bled a little!~"
"Done! And thank you for the compliments, but I'm not really a big fan of bleeding. Would you like a change of clothes? I can grab something of mine real quick," I offered. Himiko nodded and sat up. I left the room and went to my closet. I tried taking her clothes into account for what she'd like. I settled for a white skirt and pink cardigan with a white undershirt. Just as I was about to walk back into my kitchen, I heard the two talking.
"She's super pretty, and nice! You should totallyyy try getting with her~," Himiko said.
Dabi scoffed, "As if she'd like someone like me. Incase you forgot, we kill people for a living. She saves them. As pretty and nice as she is, no one can look past that fact."
"Ooo so you totally would if the circumstances were different!!"
Dabi shrugged, "Who wouldn't?"
I walk over to them and hand Himiko the clothes. "Here you go, hon. You can go change in my bathroom, it's the first door down the hallway." Himiko nodded and walked to my bathroom to change. I turned to face Dabi. "You okay? Any wounds?"
He shrugged, "None that are too deep."
"I can dress them if you want. I'd rather they didn't get infected," I said. He rolled his eyes but didn't stop me from pushing him into a chair. He had some scratches on his face I hadn't noticed before, along with surface-level gashes on his arm.
"Why do you even care?" He asked. I was cleaning the blood from his cheek. Our faces were only centimeters apart. I looked into his eyes and blushed wildly.
"Everyone deserves to have someone who cares. I'm here to take care of you whenever you need me," I replied kindly. He scoffed.
"I don't deserve this," He said.
"Why not?"
He hesitated, feelings were something he obviously wasn't good with. "You're too nice. And I'm... me."
"I'm not 'too nice'," I replied. "I just... do what I can. Everyone deserves someone in their corner. And, even if I don't support what you do, I'm here for you and whoever else needs my help."
I was done bandaging him and Himiko came out of the bathroom. "I'm ready! Do I look cute?~"
"The cutest girl in the whole world," I replied happily.
"Thank you!" Himiko replied. She jumped into my arms and squeezed me. "Can I have your number? I need more girls in my life."
"Sure, do you have your phone?" I asked.
"Yep! Right here!" She pulled her phone out and handed it to me. I put my contact in and handed it back.
"Feel free to come over whenever. You don't need to be injured to hang out," I said to Himiko. I turned to Dabi, "That goes to you too."
He scoffed, "Yeah, whatever. C'mon, crazy."
He and Himiko left my house. "Take care, be safe," I said to them as I closed the door.

I was walking to my apartment when I saw Dabi standing outside my door. It had been 2 months since we first met. In those two months, he was consistently coming over. I noticed with each time he was less hurt. "Dabi? What's up? You okay?" I doted. I scanned over his body and saw no injuries.
He sighed, "I'm fine, I'm fine. I'm just... I don't know. I can leave if you want."
"What? No, of course not. Come in," I replied. I unlocked my door and let him in. "I was just about to make some dinner."
"What're you gonna make?" He asked.
I rubbed my neck sheepishly, "I was going to make some ramen. Sorry, if I knew you were coming, I would've prepared something."
He just shrugged, "You work long shifts, I don't mind. As long as I'm with you."
I flushed. "You don't mean that."
"Why wouldn't I?" Dabi asked. "You... you're good to be around. I don't know... You... You're safe."
I smiled brightly, "Well, I enjoy being around you too." I finished our ramen bowls and brought them to the living room. I placed the two bowls on the coffee table. I sat down and Dabi sat beside me. Even though the couch was medium-sized and there was way more room, we were shoulder to shoulder. I handed him the remote. "Put on whatever you want."
He nodded and put on a random horror movie. "So, what'd you do today?" He asked.
"Hmm. Well, I went home early because we were double-staffed so they sent me home. Which is so stupid? Like I literally have the x-ray and painkillers built into me. And, get this, my replacement was some girl whose quirk is growing hair. Not to quirk shame, but c'mon!" I complained. "I'm not too shocked though, my manager hates me. We used to have a fling but I broke up with him because he cheated on me. And he's not over me?! Ugh, boys are so stupid. No offense."
Dabi hummed in acknowledgment, "Sounds rough."
I sighed, "Yeah. But it's ok. You're here now. What did you do today?"
"Normal league things. I got into an argument with our leader. I couldn't stand being with him. I wasn't sure where else to go, so I came here," Dabi explained.
"You're always welcome here, you know," I said.
He hesitated. "Yeah. I know."
I don't remember falling asleep, but I woke up with my head on Dabi's shoulder and his head on mine. I blushed wildly. I lightly pushed him off of me and let him lay down fully on the couch. I grabbed a blanket and draped it over him. It was 7 am and I had to work in an hour, so I decided to make a small breakfast. I got instant pancake mix and made a couple pancakes for Dabi when he woke up. I made a few extra on a separate plate for Himiko if he saw her today. I wrote a note for him.
We fell asleep watching the movie last night whoops :,) I made you some pancakes and there should be a few extra for Himiko if you see her today (but if youre extra hungry, feel free to eat them all!! I didn't tell her about them ;) ) visit me again sometime? I enjoyed your company <3

Dabi has been visiting me everyday for the past two weeks. He always came around 11 PM and stayed until 2 AM. Usually, though, we'd fall asleep on the couch. It was weirdly domestic. Whenever I heard his knock at my door, a feeling of unbeatable happiness overcame me. When he walked in, it felt different. I wasn't sure how or why, but something wasn't right.
"What's wrong?" I asked. I did a scan and he had no injuries, which made me even more confused.
"My boss wants to know who I keep sneaking off to see," Dabi said. He rubbed his neck. "He wants to meet you. Everyone does."
"Oh, ok. That's fine. Um they're not gonna like... Hurt me right?"
Dabi's eyes widened. "No. And if they try anything, I have you."
I sighed, "Okay. So like... Right now... Orrrrrr?"
He nodded, "Right now preferably."
"Ok, let me just change out of my pajamas," I said. He nodded and sat on my couch. He made himself at home as he always did. I put on sweatpants and a T-shirt. It wasn't too cold outside so I wasn't worried. I put on my sneakers and walked over to Dabi. "Ready?" He nodded and we left my apartment.
It was a 10 minute walk to his base. In that time he was growing more and more anxious. We were just outside the entrance when I stopped him. "Are you okay? Like seriously, what's up?" I placed my hands on his arms to stop him from moving.
"It's nothing. It's stupid," He said.
"it's not stupid if it's affecting you," I replied.
He sighed. "It's just... God this is pathetic... I just don't want you to like them more... than... you... like... me..." He hesitated on his words as he went on.
I giggled but hid it behind one of my hands. "You're jealous! That's so cute."
He scoffed, "Yeah, yeah. Adorable." He refused to meet my eyes. But I grabbed his face and gently tilted it down to look at me.
"You don't have to worry. I'm not gonna leave you," I said. His eyes lightened and he sighed.
"Whatever. Let's just meet them," He replied. I nodded and he grabbed my hand to lead me inside. Immediately, Himiko jumped in my arms.
"Y/n-channnn!~" She cheered as she spun us around.
"Himi-chan!" I greeted back. "How are you?"
"I'm good! Did you get the cat picture I sent you?" She asked.
"Yes! He was so cute! Did you see the makeup look I sent you?"
"Yesss!! You looked so cute! I loved the red, it almost looked like blood!~"
"I knew you'd like it! That's why I did it!" I giggled. The two of us were holding hands and excitedly talking. Unbeknownst to me, Dabi was talking with a guy with light blue hair; their boss.
"This is the girl you've been meeting?" He asked.
"Yeah. She's something, isn't she?" He had a faint, almost unnoticeable smile on his face. Shigaraki cleared his throat and I turned my attention to him. I forgot about everyone else I was meeting, I was just really happy to see Himiko.
"I'm so sorry! It's a pleasure to meet you. I'm Y/n L/n," I introduced. I extended a hand out to their boss, but Dabi pushed it down. I spared him a confused glance before looking back at the boss.
"Shigaraki. Dabi has told us a lot about you," He said.
"All good things, I hope?" I joked lightly. Shigaraki just hummed. I turned to the rest of the League. They were all in their villain outfits. One of them had a full body suit on with the mask being half grey and half black. One of them wore a full suit; the button-up was orange-red and he had a top hat with a mask on. Another was a lizard with purple hair and a red torn up scarf, something that obviously drew inspiration from Stain: The Hero Killer. And the final man was... made of gas? He was purple and black and sort of looked like a weird cloud.
"it's nice to meet you guys as well," I said with a wave. The man in the body suit approached me, and looked me up and down before jumping excitedly.
"Oh it's gonna be so fun to have someone new around!" He said. Then his personality completely shifted. "No it won't. Yes it will. No. Yes."
I just kinda stared at him awkwardly. I looked to Dabi for some help and he pulled me away from him. "That's Twice," he introduced. "He's a little crazy." I nodded.
"No problem! I was just a little concerned," I replied. The lizard man grabbed my attention.
"I'm Spinner. Hey, do you happen to know who the Hero Killer is?"
"I know of him, yeah," I shrugged.
"Do you agree with him?" Spinner asked.
"Well, I think there are a lot of fake heroes but like I don't think anyone deserves to die. I see a lot of people close to death with my job, and each time it doesn't get any easier," I answered.
"You do know who you're talking to right?" The top hat wearing one asked.
"Yeah, you know we kill people, right?" Shigaraki asked.
"Yeah I know. I don't support it. But, my job isn't persecuting criminals; it's helping people. So, even if I could never do what you guys do, I don't hate you or think lowly of you," I explained.
Shigaraki approached me, he placed four fingers on my shoulder and Dabi tensed. "What are you doing?" He asked.
Shigaraki smirked, "What makes you trust us? We could kill you right now."
I showed no fear. I looked him in his eyes. His red ones met my own. "I don't trust you. Nothing is stopping you from killing me. But... I don't think Dabi would walk me into a situation he knew I wouldn't leave from. I trust him and Himiko."
Shigaraki scoffed, his grip on my shoulder tightened. His index finger, which he was keeping off my shoulder, was inching closer and closer slowly. It was as if he wanted a reaction from me or someone else. I was about to say something when Dabi shoved him away from me.
"Quit it, will you?" He said gruffly, clearly annoyed. "You're lucky I even dragged her here to meet your ugly ass."
"Going soft, Dabi?" Shigaraki asked. Dabi didn't answer. He just grabbed my hand and we walked back to my apartment. His hand never left mine.
When we got home and the door was shut, he looked me up and down - as if trying to find an injury. I recognized the habit as one of my own whenever he was at my door. "Hey I'm okay," I reassured.
"The... The reason they wanted to meet you was because I've been talking about you. A lot," he said with a sigh as he lazed about on my couch. I joined him and sat curled up on his chest. These past few months have been the best of my life. He, despite being a serial killer, was safe.
"And what do you tell them?" I ask.
"I tell them I want to be with you," he admits. I could tell it wasn't easy as he hesitated on his words and his heartbeat quickened. I looked up at him.
"Yeah?" I asked.
"Yeah. It's not going to be... easy liking me and I get it if you don't like me like that. Except, I might have to kill you cause this is too embarrassing to not kill over." Now, normally if a mass murderer says something like this, I'd be concerned. But Dabi said it in a light way. There may have been some truth but I don't think he'd ever kill me... Right?
"Nothing is ever easy. I thought you were cute the minute I saw you shirtless in my kitchen," I joked. "I like you too, Dabi."
He hesitated greatly at my words. "...Touya. My name is Touya."
My eyes widened, "Woah wait what? Dabi isn't your real name?"
He looked at me quizzically. "No?? What kind of name is Dabi for a baby??"
"I don't know! I thought your parents hated you or something!"
"I mean, you could say that. My old man is a piece of shit to put it lightly. I was sick of the way things were going so I... Faked my death and became a villain."
"I'm sorry, Touya. I can't imagine," I said gently. I sat up from his chest and made him look at me. There was something so cute about him, about us. He closed his eyes and placed a hand on the back of my neck, pushing my face closer to his. I closed my eyes as well and our lips connected halfway.
In that moment, we were eternal. Nothing else mattered. The cars that sped down the street and the dogs that barked, all those noises were drowned out simply by the feeling of being so close to someone else. His hands traveled to my waist and he pulled me into his lap. My hand moved from his face to his shoulder to support myself. We disconnected our lips from each other after a minute, taking deep breaths and admiring the other.
"Maybe I am going soft," He mumbles. I didn't hear him though. I was already passed out sitting in his lap.

Two months into dating and Touya practically lives with me. Some of his clothes were in my closet and drawers, I had his favorite foods constantly stocked in my cabinets and fridge, and he even had his own toothbrush in my bathroom. We were sitting on my couch when I got a call from my sister, I looked puzzled and paused our show.
"[Sisters name]? What's up?" I asked. Dabi was about to ask me something but I held a finger up. He scoffed, crossed his arms, and pushed me away dramatically. "You want me to watch your kid..? Um yeah sure! Drop him off at my house." She hung up quickly after the confirmation.
"Who was that?" Dabi asked.
"My sister. We haven't spoken in 2 years and suddenly she has a kid and wants me to babysit? Ugh," I groaned.
He just hummed. "Do you think she's gonna freak out when she sees my face?"
"considering the fact it's on wanted posters; probably," I loving tap his cheek and he rolls his eyes. I was about to move off the couch but he grabbed my hand and pulled me back.
"Do you want kids?" He asked. It was the question I was both dreading and incredibly excited for.
"I would like some, yes. But with work and everything I don't know if I'd be able to," I replied.
"What? Like it's a one person job?" He teased.
I rolled my eyes. "With the people I used to date, I knew it would've been. How about you, Mr. Murder?"
"I used to think starting a family would be out of the picture for me but I don't know if that's the case anymore," he replied simply. He said it so casually I thought I was reading too deep into things.
"Y-you want to to have a family with me?" I asked.
He shrugged, "I don't know who else I'd rather have one with. Besides, we'd make cute babies."
My sister arrived with my nephew. It was our first time meeting and I'm sure it was likely going to be the last. I brought Kam to the living room and introduced him to Touya.
"Kam, this is Touya. Touya, this is Kam," I said.
"Are those real?" Kam asked, pointing at Touya's face.
"My scars?" Touya asked. Kam nodded. "Yeah, bud. They're real. I got into a really bad accident when I was younger. They don't scare you, do they?"
Kam shook his head immediately. "No! They look super cool!"
Touya smiled. "Yeah?"
"Mhm!" Kam replied with an innocent smile on his face. Touya looked at me with a soft smile of his own. He had a look in his eyes as he played and talked to Kam. It was nothing I'd seen before. His eyes were full of fatherly love.
It was around 5 when the three of us were curled up on the couch. My head rested on Touya's chest and Kam sat on Touya's lap. He had protective arms wrapped around us. Kam was already sleeping and I was about to lull off myself, but then Touya started speaking.
"We should have one," He said. "These couple hours have been better than I could've imagined."
"You know it isn't going to be all sunshine and rainbows, right? If we have one it's gonna be a newborn and it'll cry all the time," I replied.
"Do you not want one?"
"I do. I really do. But, I don't want to force you into a commitment you're not ready for. Kids are a handful."
"I know. But... My life has been totally different these past months and it's because of you. Fuck, princess, I don't know what kind of drug you are but I'm addicted. You make me want to be a better person. But I know even if I wasn't, you'd still be there. You're the best damn thing in my life."
"Look at you getting all sappy on me," I teased.
"Forget it then," He scoffed. I rolled my eyes and moved off his chest to look at him in his eyes. I placed a hand on his cheek and and kiss him.
"I'm only teasing. You're the best thing in my life too. Before I met you, I was just in a constant loop. My days would feel the same and my life didn't feel worth it. Even if you're a crazy murderer, you're my crazy murderer."
He sarcastically smiled and rolled his eyes. "I think I'm the more sane one in this relationship."
"Only because I got you started on meds," I shrugged. "If you're serious, we can have a baby."
"Of course I'm serious. I just... Don't want to be like my dad."
"And you're not gonna. I'm not worried about that in the slightest. I can keep you in check."
"Yeah, I know you can, doll," He breathed out a sigh. He looked down at his lap as Kam shifted to get comfortable. His smile met his eyes as he leaned his head against mine.

I woke Touya up with an at-home pregnancy test in my hand. The two lines on it made me feel anxious. I was worried he wouldn't actually want to have a kid, that maybe he just said it to make me feel better. "Touya," I said as I shook him awake.
"Hm? I'm trying to sleep, princess," He groaned into his pillow. By this time, he was fully living in my apartment. I got new pillows and sheets, we painted the walls, and hung up photos of us together. It really felt like a home.
"You might want to wake up," I said. "Something happened."
He shot up almost immediately. He looked at me and scanned my body as if he had my quirk. Then his eyes fell onto my hands with the pregnancy test in their grasp. He looked at me shocked and then he grabbed the test. He saw the two lines and breathed deeply. "We're going to be parents?" He asked.
"Y-yeah," I choked. "I understand if you don't want me to have it... I know we talked about it a lot but I get it if you... want.. to.. leave..?" I looked down and refused to meet his eyes. He sighed.
"After all this time, you really think I'm going to leave you?" He asked. He grabbed my face and looked at me so sincerely. "We're gonna be parents, princess. I'll leave the league, I'll try seeing what I can do to become reformed, I want to be with you."
"You mean it?"
"Never wanted anything more in my life."
Touya came home from visiting the League with a bruise on his face. I rushed over to him immediately. "What happened?" I doted.
"They couldn't believe I was leaving. Me and Scratchy got into a fight," He smiled. "They want to see our baby when he's born and Crazy says you need to text her."
Tumblr media
It had been three months since Touya started his reformation process. It wasn't easy. I was basically a glorified babysitter. He was put on meds that blocked his quirk, something I knew he hated. But he kept going for me. Today was finally the day we were going to see his siblings. His father, Endeavor, was someone he wanted nothing to do with. Even after all the therapy he went through, nothing could shake the hatred he felt. His natural hair was showing now, he stopped dying it black and it was now a bright white. I wore a simple light purple dress and Touya had black jeans and a dark purple button-up on.
"What if they don't like me?" I groaned as we walked to his house.
"I should be the one worrying about that. You're not a serial killer," Touya grumbled.
"Former serial killer," I chimed. He rolled his eyes. I looked up and we were on the Todoroki Family's doorstep. "Are you ready?"
He shrugged, "Only been a decade or so since I saw them."
I huff and knock on the door. A girl opens it, Fuyumi I assume. "Hi, I hope you were informed about our visit..." I asked worriedly. Touya was standing awkwardly at my side.
"No, I'm sorry. Who are you?" Fuyumi asked.
My heart dropped. "I'm your brother's girlfriend, and this is Touya." I introduced the two for him, I knew he wouldn't be able to. Fuyumi's eyes widened.
"Touya?" She gasped. She looked at his scarred face and blue eyes. A look of recognition flashed behind her own.
"Hey, Yumi," Touya replied. He acted casual, but I could tell it was eating him up inside. There was so much he wanted to say, but no words could describe.
"Does Dad know you're here?" she asked.
Touya tensed. "He knows we're here, but I refuse to see him." His sister hummed.
"Well, come in. Tell us where you've been!" She said kindly. She led the two of us in and sat us down at the table. "Nats! Sho! Come down here!"
Touya was growing more and more anxious. He couldn't stop the feeling of anxiety that crawled within him. I placed my hand in his and squeezed tightly, he gently sighed and took deep breaths. Natsuo and Shoto came down, they were expecting dinner and not their long-lost brother and his girlfriend, obviously.
"Who are they?" Shoto asked.
"Touya?" Natsuo said, amazed. Shoto looked at Touya shocked. Natsuo pushed past Fuyumi and Shoto and embraced Touya tightly. I smiled at the sight.
Touya and I sat at the table as he reconnected with his siblings. After the initial shock of seeing him wore off, they welcomed him with open arms. We still hadn't told them the "big news" so to speak.
"We didn't come here just to meet and catch up," Touya said. He glanced at me and I looked down slightly. "Are you two getting married?" Fuyumi asked. I blushed viciously. "N-no!" "Well?" Natsuo prompted. Touya looked at me and I nodded. "She's pregnant," Touya explained. All three of their eyes widened. Fuyumi immediately started doting on me and cheerfully checked over my body. Natsuo patted Touya on his back and Shoto was just stunned. "Oh my god! How far along are you?" Fuyumi asked. "14 weeks," I answered. "I hope you guys aren't too shocked." "Well, our brother comes back from the dead with a girlfriend and a baby on the way... I think we can be a little shocked," Natsuo said. I laughed a bit. "You're having a kid out of wedlock?" Shoto asked. "Yeah," Touya said as he rubbed his neck. "It was kind of a spur-of-the-moment decision." "At that exact moment sure, but we talked about it beforehand," I rolled my eyes. "Hey, I'm not complaining," He teased. I blushed and stuck my thumb down at him. Shoto made a fake throw-up noise and Natsuo looked away with a soft smile. Fuyumi shook her head.
"How are you going to tell Dad?" She asked. Touya shrugged, "Simple. We're not. He'll find out when he finds out but he won't hear it from either of us." Fuyumi just nodded. "I'm glad to have you back, Touya." "Me too!" Natsuo agreed. "It is nice," Shoto added. Touya just sheepishly rubbed his neck again, he clearly wasn't expecting so much support. "It's good to be back," Touya said.

Our baby woke up crying for the third time that night. It was now one full year since Touya started reforming. He went to all his mandatory meetings, took his meds, and went through extensive therapy. I was about to get up but my white-haired boyfriend stopped me. Even though he seemed annoyed, I could see the love in his eyes from just knowing our baby was alive and with us. He was happy because we had a family. "I'll get him, princess," He said. He pushed me back to lying down and pulled the blanket back over my body. I smiled at him and watched as he went over to the crib we set up in our room. He held our baby in his hands and cradled him tightly as he rocked him back to sleep. After a few minutes, our baby fell back asleep. Touya smiled and gently placed him back in the crib.
Touya crawled into bed with me and held me close. "Thank you," Touya whispered into my hair. "For what?" I asked, snuggling into him further. "Giving me something to live for," He replied.

Diluc returns from a particularly rough fight during his moonlighting as the Darknight Hero to find Kaeya once again waiting for him at the winery, as he always seems to be. For some reason.
[read on ao3]
--
“My my, another rough evening, Master Diluc?”
Kaeya’s voice sounds tinny and off-key, but Diluc knows it well enough to understand when he’s being taunted. His hand remains pressed flat to his abdomen, grateful for the black of his jacket to hide what must be a particularly gruesome bloodstain.
“Why are you here,” he grits out as he slumps against the door, hopes that he can hold onto his composure for just long enough to convince Kaeya to leave. Adelinde can tend his wound, and Diluc does not have to face the mortification of admitting weakness in front of Kaeya.
“Why, for the wine, of course!” Kaeya says, as he always does. As he does every time Diluc returns to find him here, lounging in a chair in the winery’s entrance, at least one empty bottle on the table in front of him. Now, he hoists his glass in a false toast, offers Diluc a smirk. The dim candlelight makes it look sinister.
Until he tips his head back just a fraction, hardly any movement at all, but Diluc sees Kaeya from before, the Kaeya that would stay up all night with him, share stories of their dreams for the future under dim candlelight or bright moonlight, when the weather allowed it.
“Have I bored you so easily, Master Diluc?” Kaeya tuts, takes a sip of his wine, and Diluc grits his teeth. Partly in response to Kaeya, partly in an effort to keep himself aware. Partly to block out the pain - not the worst he’s endured, but most certainly high on the scale.
Kaeya shifts, though, and a clink makes it to Diluc’s ears. His eyes remain partly unfocused, so he blinks a few times, finds snapshot moments of Kaeya’s feet dropping from the table to the ground, Kaeya standing, Kaeya moving closer.
He hears his name, too - just Diluc this time, no tongue-in-cheek title to go along with it, and Diluc’s hand falls from his stomach. He didn’t ask it to, but gods did it require such effort to hold it there. He thinks there was a reason for it being there, but this is easier, isn’t it? To just let it fall, to let his body relax. To rest - gods, when was the last time he rested?
Warmth envelops him quite suddenly, then, and he doesn’t mind it. He’d been quite cold before, actually, and this is nice. Comfortable. He’s not sure what it is, though - his eyes won’t open, and-
Oh. Is this death? Kaeya’s kept him standing here for too long, or maybe he’s grown too- what’s the word? The opposite of humble, perhaps he’s gotten too...arrogant, that’s it. Like Kaeya. Like Kaeya. Like…
He blinks, surprised to find light pouring in now. Surprised to find...Kaeya. Hovering over him, brows furrowed and lips twisted, and a sudden-
“Ah-” Diluc coughs out as pain lances through him, sharp and sudden, and Kaeya’s gaze flicks over to meet Diluc’s. His tight expression evens out so quickly, then, that Diluc wonders if he’d imagined it.
Wonders, then, where exactly-
“Hold- Diluc,” Kaeya snaps, and Diluc pauses his attempts at looking around in favor of turning his gaze to Kaeya. Kaeya, who - upon closer inspection, and a clearer mind - appears...worried? “Hold still.” He enunciates the words with icy clarity.
Diluc does as he’s told, if only because he has not seen Kaeya like this...perhaps ever. At the very least, not since they were kids. He watches with furrowed brows as Kaeya’s hand returns to his stomach - exposed, now, and he sees the- ah. Right.
“You have no sense of self preservation,” Kaeya grumbles, almost petulant, and Diluc...he does not entirely know what to make of that. A decade ago, he might’ve thought it endearing, that Kaeya would worry for him, would make a fuss over an injury, but now…
“I don’t see why that concerns you,” he says, and finds his voice dry and hoarse. Kaeya shoots a glare in his direction, but does not respond. A rare occurrence, when he’s usually the one to prefer to fill the silence with idle chatter.
Diluc’s gaze flicks down again to where an ugly line cuts its way across his abdomen, and he watches as Kaeya sticks a needle unkindly through the edges of the wound. The pain itself comes almost as an aftershock, nearly hidden behind the wave of realization that hits him in that moment.
In all the nights that Diluc has returned from his masked forays into the city and its outskirts - all the nights that Kaeya, coincidentally, decides to make his way to the winery - Kaeya has never stayed.
And he has most certainly never tended to Diluc’s injuries, though Diluc supposes that this is the first one he’s been unable to hide from Kaeya.
The next prick of pain is not so bad, now that he’s prepared for it, and he watches Kaeya’s fingers dexterously weave shut the wound. He does not speak as he works, does not cast more than a cursory glance in Diluc’s direction, and Diluc does not know what to say.
Doesn't know how to act, when Kaeya steps out of his role as the flippant, duplicitous charmer. When he is sincere, when he’s-
“Archons,” Diluc grits out as Kaeya splashes something- ah, alcohol. Very distilled, apparently. His whole body tenses around the epicenter of the pain, the white-hot sting in his abdomen that refuses to subside even as Kaeya steps back, one arm crossed over his chest as he takes a generous sip from the very same bottle.
He sets it down on the nearby table with a hard thunk, his sour mood quite obvious, but does not turn to face Diluc. Just stares, hand gripped tight still to the neck of the bottle, and Diluc thinks that he has never seen Kaeya angry like this.
Tired, hurt, broken and hopeless, Diluc has seen all of these things, but never...never this. Never the tight expression, barely visible for the way his hair falls in his face. Never the white-knuckled grip that he must be controlling still, or it’d break the neck of the bottle. Never the quiet tension in his shoulders, hunched where they’re usually set back in a peacock-proud display.
Diluc does not know how to handle an angry Kaeya.
He sits up a fraction more, as though it might help clear his confused, clouded thoughts, but it only serves to make him wince and suck in an involuntary breath at the sting of his wound.
Kaeya’s head whips around, focuses sharply on Diluc, and Diluc holds immeasurably still. For a moment, he wishes that Adelinde had been the one to find him - her caretaking is far less...tense.
“I will freeze you to the table if you can’t manage to lay still,” Kaeya says, voice empty and nearly as cold as his ice. It crawls to his fingers, spreads from them to the bottle in a spiderweb of frost.
Diluc shakes his head, regrets the wave of dizziness that follows but does his best to keep his expression even.
“Why?” he manages after a moment, and Kaeya coughs out a laugh.
“You get yourself gutted, then ask why you need to rest?” A bitter scoff, and Kaeya releases his grip on the bottle to stand upright, to cross his arms over his chest and glare down at Diluc. “Fine,” he waves a hand. “Treat your life like it means nothing, then.”
Diluc’s brows furrow at Kaeya’s hard stare.
“Go on,” he urges, waves a hand now at the door. “Don’t you have important hero business to attend? Surely you won’t bleed out along the way!” Kaeya bares his teeth, an angry approximation of a grin, and the words hit Diluc like a- well, like a sword through his gut.
His chest falls with a heavy breath, and he wonders - perhaps naively, perhaps masochistically - if this is how it might’ve felt to be on the other end of his own blade that night all those years ago. If it was instead he who stood opposite Kaeya’s anger, knew his own faults and laid them bare for Kaeya to slash apart with his sword.
There’s a clink, then, and Diluc refocuses to find Kaeya lifting the alcohol from its perch, and he drops heavily into a chair and lifts the bottle to his lips. Drinks long and deep, then levels an unreadable stare on Diluc.
“If you intend to get yourself killed,” he says, quieter now, and his gaze flicks away. “At least have the common decency not to make me bear witness to it.” He takes another sip, and Diluc watches as something in his chest burns. Aches.
It’s a childish thing, he thinks, and he doesn’t entirely know where it comes from, but it blazes through him like wildfire, hot and painful, and he exhales a shuddered breath. This draws Kaeya’s stare, sharp with concern, and Diluc does not know how to wave it off.
“I did not mean to cause you any distress,” he says quickly, and Kaeya averts his stare the moment Diluc speaks. Leans back into the chair, evidently satisfied that Diluc’s death is not imminent.
“And yet, you run rampant through the streets with no care for your own wellbeing,” he says, voice like ice again. “Funny how that works.” Another sip from the bottle, and he rests it on his thigh. Keeps his gaze directed toward the door, though it remains unfocused.
“Is that why you wait here?” Diluc asks, then, as the realization dawns on him. Is that why I find you here every night I’ve gone out? Is that why you show up at the winery, seemingly at random, and only leave once I’ve returned?
“I’m not sure I know what you’re talking about, Master Diluc.” A hint of humor, but the bitterest kind. Kaeya glances from the corner of his eye, and Diluc sees it - hears it, almost, in a voice that is Kaeya’s but isn’t. A voice from a time when Kaeya spoke earnestly, when he did not cloak every truth in a veil of lies and almost-honesty.
If I admit that I care about you, then things change. We change.
He wonders, then, if Kaeya doesn’t want to - if he doesn’t want to care for Diluc. If he’d rather hate Diluc outright. It’s the same feeling that Diluc had felt about Kaeya all those years ago. It would be easier, certainly. Hard to feel pain when you allow nothing close to your heart - Diluc knows that truth well enough.
And yet, Kaeya’s all but admitted that he cares regardless.
“You don’t have to,” he says - an out, though it’s not quite a response to what Kaeya’s said. More to the words that he hasn’t spoken. “To be here,” he adds. “I can take care of myself. I know it’s-”
Painful to keep caring, when Diluc can never quite rid himself of his need for martyrdom. Impossible to justify it, when loss hovers so closely around Diluc that it might as well be a second skin. When he seeks it out most nights, tempts fate and knows that it will catch up with him some day.
“It’s rotten work,” he says quietly, and his gaze drifts to the wound that Kaeya’s so carefully tended. How many more will Diluc endure? How many would Kaeya stand by and watch before he can’t stand it? There is a reason that Diluc has never pursued lovers or a family or the like.
“Not to me.”
Diluc glances up, finds Kaeya still staring off into the distance. His gaze drifts over then, though, and holds Diluc’s. Something small, almost a smile, flickers at the corner of his lip.
“Not if it’s you,” he adds, even as his jaw tenses with something that Diluc has not seen since the night he raised a sword at Kaeya. Kaeya shakes his head, huffs out a breath. “You never quite figured it out, did you?”
He takes another sip of the alcohol, and Diluc’s brows furrow just slightly.
“Figured what out?” The ‘it’ tugs at his thoughts, though, somewhere just beyond his comprehension. He knows it, he thinks, whatever Kaeya intends to say, but Kaeya’s gaze flicks over, and he exhales a short breath.
“Never mind.” A smile curls the corner of his lip, gentler than his usual sharp smirk. “You need to rest. I’ll be here.”
He turns away again, then, and props a foot up on the table beside him. Takes another short sip from the bottle, and Diluc stares.
Sees it with crystal clarity, then, when Kaeya’s eye flicks over, just for the briefest moment, and it burns through Diluc’s chest - painful, warm, hot and bright and terrifying all at once. A thing he has buried for a very long time, because caring hurts.
“Kaeya.” Kaeya glances over properly now, and Diluc holds his stare. “Thank you.”
A small smile touches his lips, gentle and careful and Kaeya-from-their-childhood, and Diluc is fifteen again, and reckless and brave and head-over-heels, and just once, he allows that feeling to wash over him. When his lips curl up in a soft smile, Kaeya’s own grin widens, though he hides it with the bottle as he takes a sip.
“Get some rest, Master Diluc,” Kaeya chides, so warmly that it sounds fond, and Diluc’s heart feels so free and light it might fly right out of his chest.
That could also be blood loss, he supposes as a wave of dizziness turns the edges of his vision black, and he leans carefully back onto the table. Is grateful that Kaeya had thought to bring him a pillow, or he might be in for an uncomfortable night of sleep.
“Good night, Kaeya,” he offers quietly, and Kaeya huffs out a gentle, amused breath. Tips his head in Diluc’s direction, and Diluc’s eyes drift shut with the image of his smile branded in his mind - sincere, genuine in a way that Diluc hasn’t seen in years.
“Good night, Luc.”

Febuwhump Day 13
Prompt: hiding injury
Read on AO3
Note: I connected the next three Febuwhump days within the same plot, so day 14 and 15 will be parts 2 and 3.
The Further I Fall
With a parka zipped all the way up to his chin, hood up, two layers of snow pants, and his arms crossed against his chest loosely (since his many layers of clothing have decreased his range of motion), General Skywalker has never looked more like a pouting child. Rex watches in utter amusement as he quarrels with a very tired looking General Kenobi.
"Hoth? You realize when people describe cold icy hells, they are actually talking about Hoth, right?"
"We're not taking a vacation, Anakin, this is a mission and you are welcome to stay on the ship if you are afraid of a little chill," the Jedi Master replies without even looking up from his datapad. It is an absolute wonder to Rex that Kenobi has put up with Skywalker for over a decade now. He's known the guy for like a year and even that has been draining, albeit, amusing in most cases.
His pouting only increases at that suggestion. "I'm not afraid. And I can't let you go alone, either."
"Cody and Rex will be with me," he says, glancing up as Cody walks into the room in his own cold-weather gear. "Really, Anakin, it's just a recon mission. Checking on a crashed Separatist ship and then we're done." he finally looks at his former padawan. "So are we going to complain, or get this over with?"
The younger Jedi grumbles something that Rex can't hear and stomps away. Sometimes he forgets that Skywalker is still very young. Practically a teenager-- why they gave a teenager another teenager of his own is beyond him, but the Jedi seem to operate a little differently than logic would suggest. He supposes he can't really argue since his brothers are all technically pre-teens in standard time, but at least they have adult development and the ability to grow facial hair.
Rex leans over to Cody and elbows him in the ribs. "How long do you think your Jedi lasts until he blows up on Skywalker?"
Cody raises an eyebrow. "Are you bettering on our generals getting into a fight?"
"Uh, yeah. Have you met them?"
A pause. "Okay, are we talking a verbal or physical fight..."
By the time they reach the surface of Hoth, Rex is shocked by the cold that immediately cuts straight to his bones. No matter how many layers he thought was sufficient, he was wrong. Luckily his armor hides the shake of his body and his helmet modulates out the chattering of his teeth.
"We shall make this quick," General Kenobi yells over the wind as they walk from the ship. It takes a moment for Rex to see it through the raging storm, but he soon can make out the outline of a Separatist cruiser half-buried in the snow. Their intelligence indicated it crashed only a week ago by Hoth standards, but you wouldn't know it by looking at the ice-covered ship. Already it seems to be feeling the effects of the cold, some parts looking to be concaved in either from the crash or the weight of the snow. The ship is quickly becoming a permanent part of the landscape.
They find an entrance and slip into the ship, which is thankfully resting on its belly. Thankfully, these ships are made for deep space and have the insulation to keep the cold out at least a little bit. Rex can see the general's breaths forming clouds, but it's better than the bitter windchill from outside.
"What a dump," Skywalker mutters as they traverse the ruined halls.
"Agreed," Rex whispers back. They aren't exactly sure what they'll find-- hopefully an operational computer they can download data from, but taking out a few cold clankers would also be a plus. So far all the droids seem to have had a bad time in the crash. Their parts are scattered around at random, a head here, half an arm there. Rex and Cody kick a ball socket from the hinge of their elbows back and forth to one another as they walk.
"So let me get this straight," Skywalker starts, an edge in his voice that Rex knows well. "They sent two Generals, and two high ranking troopers to walk through an abandoned ship at the edge of hell?"
"You must be forgetting the part of the council meeting where they assigned only you to the mission, and you managed to rope me into accompanying you."
Skywalker grimaces, and Rex smirks under his mask. "But what about Rex and Cody?"
"They volunteered."
"Someone's got to watch your back, sir," Rex grins.
Maybe the universe decided to make Rex put his credits where his mouth is because the ship lets out a low groan and suddenly their horizontal trek down the hall becomes vertical. Rex hardly has time to react before falling onto his back and slipping down the hallway like some sort of demented slide.
"Hold on!" he hears General Kenobi yell out, and suddenly Rex is being thrown in a direction that is not in line with gravity. He and Skywalker collapse into a heap on the wall beside a blast door, Rex's armor crashing into the electrical panel and shattering the display. The door slams closed with an echoing boom.
"Obi-Wan!" Skywalker groans, looking wide-eyed around the wall they now sit on. "Self-sacrificing, bastard," he curses, realizing that he and Rex are alone on one side of the blast door, and assumedly Kenobi and Cody are on the other. He reaches for his commlink to contact Cody, but to his dismay, that too was crunched in the fall.
"Alright, the ship's structural integrity is probably compromised so we ought to--"
Skywalker doesn't wait for whatever Rex has to say before thrusting his lightsaber into the wall. I don't know why I even try.
If there is an argument he knows he can't win, it's anything that involves getting between the Jedi. Rex learned very quickly it is better to just let them do whatever it is they think is the next step. Skywalker cuts out a circle in the wall and moments later it drops into the hallway below. Rex internally counts how long it takes to hit-- 1...2...3...4...5...6
The piece of durasteel slams into something that is definitely not the wall of a ship. It makes a transperisteel-like shattering noise that resonates back up through the vertical corridor, but that is not what concerns Rex primarily. The time it took to fall makes him nervous. He glances up at the Jedi, wondering if he too is concerned they heard no noise from below. No yell of surprise at a falling piece of durasteel or even talking amongst the General and Cody.
"I got you, Rex," Skywalker says, standing at the edge of the hole. Rex, again, knows what's coming. The Jedi doesn't think twice before jumping down through the hole, and Rex-- having done this song and dance a few times with the Jedi follows close behind. He's plummeting through complete darkness, the updraft nearly sending his helmet flying off his head. Rex squeezes his eyes shut, knowing nothing he does now can save him-- it's up to Skywalker.
Sure enough, he gets the strange sensation of the air around him thickening, slowing his velocity until he is practically floating right above the floor. His general releases him from his Force powers, and Rex's boots land with a solid thud on the ground. From the light of Skywalkers' saber, he can see why the durasteel circle didn't make the noise he expected-- it appears in this portion of the ship was torn apart, giving way to the interior of an icy glacier.
So where are Kenobi and Cody?
"Rex," General Skywalker says, having walked up ahead a little further. He can now see the large tunnel that goes deeper into the icy mountain. There is a clammer, and then to the clone captain's surprise, the tunnel illuminates. Skywalker stands at a control panel, staring pensively down the lit-up passage.
"Sir, I don't think this ship crash was an accident," Rex says. He scans the entrance using a thermal scan in his helmet. Most of it is a bright white or blue, but thankfully there are faint yellow footprints leading down the tunnel. Two pairs of them. Rex walks up next to Skywalker, turning off the display. "Looks like General Kenobi and Cody decided to check it out."
Skywalker seems to have relaxed by this news, shaking his head. "And they didn't even think to wait for us."
__________
As much as Obi-Wan was hoping he would have the time to use the Force to cushion his own fall, he supposes slamming into a wall of ice and snow works as well. The sudden change of medium surprises him, as he was expecting to reach out for a durasteel wall.
The impact knocks the wind out of him completely, and for a few long moments, he's worried he'll blackout. Pins and needles run up his arms and legs, but he isn't sure if it's due to the cold or the fall.
Thankfully, the shift of the ship must have caused a blanket of fresh powder to gather in the exact spot he landed, giving him just enough cushioning to keep him conscious. While Anakin might argue this is a moment for him to believe in luck, Obi-Wan would argue that the shard of ice that has embedded itself in his back would beg to differ.
He lies there for a moment, a little afraid to move just yet. Obi-Wan takes a quick assessment of his condition. The shard isn't horribly long-- maybe the length of his thumb, and it seems to have missed his vital organs.
The concern will be for his ribs. He can definitely feel at least one broken-- if not completely shattered-- which could be bad news if he has to move too much.
In summary, he will live. He will be fine once they get off this Force-forsaken wasteland, and an upside to the cold is it will make him numb to the pain for a little while. Nature's anesthetic.
Obi-Wan hears rustling around nearby. He wonders who landed with him-- he's fairly sure he managed to get two to safety on the other side of the blast doors and aid the fall of a third down to the lower levels with him. A moment later, the visor of Commander Cody appears over him.
"General! Are you alright?"
Okay, so Cody is here, meaning Rex and Anakin are above. Sure enough, when he reaches out with the Force, he senses two strong presences nearby. They appear to be uninjured, which is a relief. Obi-Wan lifts his hand, ignoring the sharp pain that comes from his side as he does so. "Quite alright, Cody." The commander helps him to his feet, and Obi-Wan finally gets a better look at their location.
"It seems the ship was resting on a hinge point, and our weight caused it to topple, sir."
"Fantastic," he says dryly. "And conveniently it has deposited us at the mouth of some sort of tunnel or cave."
"Appears so."
"My old master used to tell me there was no such thing as coincidences," he says shaking his head. Of course, a simple recon mission would turn into finding a secret hideaway. The question is, who's hideaway? "Shall we?"
They begin down the hall, Obi-Wan allowing Cody to lead while he covertly tears off pieces of his tunic and stuffs them into the puncture wound to keep pressure. When he's finally satisfied that the makeshift bandage will hold for a little while he catches up with the commander. As they get deeper into the passage, the icy tunnel turns more and more manufactured. Durasteel beams offer supports, and Obi-Wan spots some lighting periodically. Perhaps it is a good thing the lights aren't on... hopefully means nobody is home.
"Who in their right mind would set up shop on Hoth?" Cody says, his teeth obviously chattering under his helmet.
"Probably not someone in their right mind," Obi-Wan smiles. "I suppose it's a desolate location. The chances of being found are very slim."
"Unless a Seppie ship crashes into you. From the looks of the construction, this place has been around for far longer than the ship."
Obi-Wan has a bad feeling about this. Maybe it's skewed by his steadily bleeding wound, but it just seems strange to him that a ship would crash right on top of some sort of secret tunnel. All of Hoth and it reveals this?
Suddenly the lights flicker to life, revealing the tunnel opens up ahead of them into a larger area. He and Cody look up and behind them in surprise.
"What are the odds that was Rex and General Skywalker?" Cody asks, tightening his grip on his blaster.
"I'm optimistic, though, I don't suggest waiting around to find out." Obi-Wan is curious where all of this is leading. They approach the large area, which turns out to be a massive rotunda made entirely of carefully sculpted ice. It's rather grandiose in appearance, but not in practice as his eyes are diverted from the gorgeous ceiling to the remainder of the room. He would expect to see a grand ballroom of sorts, perhaps a dual-staircase traversing delicately down the sides of the slick walls, but no such hidden beauty lies before them.
It's a lab. Operational as of recently from the looks of it. Various tables cluttered with beakers and chemicals make a large U shape in the center of the room, surrounding what seems to be a primitive prototype of a bacta tank.
Most disturbing of all, a tilt-table is bolted to the ground off to the side, its durasteel restraints unlocked, but around the base lies the dark crimson of dried blood. Lots of blood.
"Oh good," Obi-Wan says, sighing deeply. The lab of a mad scientist is not at all what he expected to find (they must be crazy to set up on Hoth of all places). He is unwillingly reminded of a particularly sensitive portion of his padawan years where Qui-Gon was abducted by Jenna Zan Arbor to try and figure out the scientific basis of Jedi powers. He was tortured, his blood drained so he was kept on the very brink of death in hopes for her to study Force healing.
She also took Anakin once. Escaped yet again. Every time they come close to finding her, she manages to slip away. Though it has been years since she was committed to the cause of figuring out how the Force works, he is still uneasy by what he sees. He can't deny the similarities in the set-ups.
Cody walks further into the cavern carefully, but Obi-Wan suddenly feeling a bit weak decides to stay back and watch the tunnel entrance. He watches as the clone commander takes a holovid of the scene, careful to step over the puddles of blood.
"Hard to tell with the cold," Cody says as he finishes his assessment. "But I'd say it's been abandoned about a week."
"Ship crash probably scared them off... Whoever it is."
Cody bends down to take a sample of the blood, but in Obi-Wan's vision there seem to be two of him. He is quite sure they didn't bring a second 212th member though.
Footsteps echo through the tunnel, and his instincts kick in. He grabs his lightsaber, igniting it and whirling around to meet whoever runs after them. The Force is murky now, only confusing him more. Two figures appear from the dim lighting, one in armor and the other with floppy brown hair. Obi-Wan blinks, taking a staggering step forward.
"Master?" he mutters, his lightsaber dropping to his side and rolling away from him.
"Obi-Wan?" the man yells, his name echoing multiple times through the chamber.
"Master watch out! It's Arbor!"
"Obi-Wan!"
He's on his knees, vision tunneling. A hand rests on his back, carefully yet frantically tugging at him to look up but his head is heavy.
"I'm fine," he says as his world is turned upside down and now he's staring at the beautiful ceiling, which is very quickly fading away. "I'm okay."

offering love until it hurt
ship: sambucky
warning/content: canon death; ca:tws setting; angst; character study(?); is this even complete?
summary: Sam Wilson’s timer was so close to zero. So close, but, he doesn’t really believe in them. Not the concept of soulmates, no — he’s just lost his faith in his.
a/n: i remember hearing the priest saying “offering love until it hurt” and all i could think was “wow.” this was one of the many supposed soulmate au fils i did for the sambucky bingo that happened, but i obviously did a social media au instead :D so have this one instead! I’ll continue posting my failed fills to fill the content in the sambucky tag (especially since i won’t join the big bang lmao) please tell me what y’all think! love y’all and stay safe!
Tumblr media
The counter on Sam Wilson's left wrist was so close to zero, so close for the inked numbers to finally countdown to 000: 00: 00: 00, and so close to meeting his Soulmate, after a whole lifetime of feeling icy coldness everywhere he went, not once feeling warmth but only feeling the chill tone down a bit during random moments. Living with encrypted numbers were like living encased in a cold and wet cellar with no sunlight streaming in and dancing on your skin Living with numbers on your wrist that rarely become coherent was like living alone in the corner of an abandoned hallway. Cold, cold, dirty, lonely — life was agonizing. It was less than twenty-four hours left. Yes, it was. Sam's soulmate could've been that blonde or they could've been that Redhead. Yeah — When Sam's soulmate appeared, he couldn't have known; it happened too fast.
Steve Rogers, Captain America, had appeared on Sam's doorstep with Natasha Romanoff, the Black Widow, asking for his help. Sam almost threw his shit, wanted to take the world in his hands, and yell at it, saying, "Let me be selfish for once, please. Let the world slow down just for me, just for my chance at unconditional love," but seeing their bruises and cuts urged Sam, knowing full well that his soulmate would appear in a few hours, to bring them in unprompted.
Sam could be selfish when the timer stopped because that was all his in the end.
"Not everyone." Sam had said, his eyes subtly sweeping his street as he let the two enter his home. He glanced at his wrist; only a few hours left; maybe more or less six hours — he's counting, damn right Sam's counting.
Soulmates weren't a big thing in his life. No one revolved around the idea of having someone built like you, for you, to love you unconditionally because they knew — they all knew — that the world isn't kind enough to serve such kindness. Everyone he knew and grew up with hated each other in some way but loved and offered love so much that it almost hurt to love. Sam had his fair share of love, and it hurt too much to think about.
"This Riley?" Steve had said.
Sam nodded back. "Yeah."
His heart has been handled by so many hands that his heart has been softened at anyone's touch, making it almost impossible for it to harden at some ungodly sight; the amount of love pouring out of Sam's heart was almost ceremonious, almost as if he was there to be handled, "almost as if his soulmate was everyone he met," as his co-soldiers have said. But, no. His timer has never seen the number zero on the first digit — never stopped counting the breaths Sam hitched in his throat as he watched it count down many times. Sam sometimes wished the next time he held his breath, his soulmate was breathless too when the number zero appeared on any digit.
The amount of love Sam echoed from his bones to his fingertips was addicting, and everyone nipped at the affection and care he had given; almost an addiction, he was a whole other drug the medicinal field couldn't conjure, not even morphine could match. Sam liked it — Sam liked "offering until it hurt," as his father had once preached. Maybe that's why he couldn't turn down Captain America and the Black Widow. Maybe that's why he didn't bother to follow the pull of gravity he felt a tug at him, the subtlety teething and biting at him like needles. Maybe that's why he was selfless. Maybe that's why he couldn't take something for himself.
Sam sits still instead, watching Jack Sitwell look around in search of the "good looking guy in the glasses." They meet eyes, and Sam wishes it to be his soulmate instead, to feel the warmth of the world, embrace his bones made of ice sculpted by God Himself, and to have the counter display a golden zero.
Not this asshole.
Sam wanted his soulmate so badly, even when he's lost faith in them.
"Yeah. There you go." Sam says through the phone.
It's almost a ticking time bomb in his chest, vibrating at impossible speeds as he waits patiently for him to combust once the timer gets down to zero. He could feel the pull beckon for him, come home, Samuel, it says, but the ice in his bones began to melt; he could feel the warmth, and it disappeared so suddenly, it's almost sickening. Jetlag, practically — it's a sickening ride the universe has given him.
Sam didn't listen to it, didn't want to look down on his wrist, didn't care to cater to the pull his body aches for. As his mantra says: "I've lost faith in you, I've lost faith in you. Let me be the reason I can't believe you." He's been starved of the love and care his soul aches for, and all of these potential soulmates he's met has no place for Sam's soul — no matching fit for his soul to intertwine with. The pull deafening, the ringing in his head, and his feet were almost dancing towards his soul mate's direction. Stop, please, Sam wishes he could bury himself in coal.
The moment Sam had flown to the top of the building with Sitwell in tow, he feels the stabbing of a thousand needles on his skin, all a hissing sensation as he feels his environment being whipped with a satisfying breeze — a breeze Sam couldn't recognize, and when he had landed and retracted his wings, the breeze lowered in temperature and became bearable; Sam could cry behind his goggles.
He sees his two acquaintances and stopped himself.
Sam couldn't glance down on his wrist, but he's all hyper-aware at the moment; he could almost feel his soulmate walking towards the pull, and Sam senses his stomach twisting in a hundred knots as bile made its way to his throat but failed to reach his end. Again, to be buried under piles of coal was seemingly becoming a yearning Sam couldn't seem to comprehend.
Ms. Black Widow had her gaze burning at the back of Sam's head during the drive on the highway, and it suddenly got warm in the car as his hand on the wheel showed signs of sweat, leather sticking at his hand and becoming slightly slimy. Sam has his face sculpted into a serious and tamed expression despite the nervousness in his aching body, building up an insane amount of anxiety as he could feel the countdown turn to minutes — and it was minutes!
Sam sighed as he felt his surroundings turn hotter, and he mumbled under his breath, something about his soulmate and his timer, his supposed meet-cute, yet he couldn't even hear himself. There's a ringing in his ear that dulls him into sleep.
Captain America glanced at him, and his eyes glinted in realization; Ms. Black Widow saw it too, the sweat trickling down Sam's neck and melting into the fabric of his shirt, it was too familiar for them; then, it hit them.
It hit Sam too fast.
Jack Sitwell was pulled out of the car after a loud thump on the roof of the car erupted their senses, and he was immediately roadkill as an incoming truck passed by at the speed limit. Screams dwindled and there's chaos in the air.
The world suddenly turned into hellfire, as if Dante's description was intertwined into the real world, Sam Wilson was handled with the terrifying licks of an imaginary flame — as if someone had found a flamethrower nearby and decided to scorch his body until it turned to ash and his bones were all its left, but that wasn't entirely the case; it wasn't oven heat or campfire heat, it was the first interaction Sam had with actual heat, and it was daring, it was fumbling, it was nerve-wracking.
Before Sam could check his wrist for the awaited number, Natasha had pushed him aside with her foot, and then he realized, My soulmate is trying to fucking murder me! as bullets barely flew past him and stuck into the headrest.
His steering wheel was pulled out from the roof. "Shit!" Sam yelled.
This wasn't the ideal meet-cute Sam imagined.
But, we go back a few months, years, decades, hell — let’s go back to 1935.

Angel sat in her room.
Waiting.
Waiting for the alarm that announced The Asset was back from a mission and everyone had to be on high alert. She sat on the edge of her bed twiddling her thumbs and staring at the floor listening for that unsavory yet blissful alarm that said that he came back.
Don’t get attached. They said.
He’s just a weapon. They said.
He’s never going to feel the same way about you as you do to him. They said.
Well, Angel never was very good at taking orders. Especially from the men who kidnapped her as a child.
Over the years, Angel has cared for The Winter Soldier in his worst of times and gave him most of the better times in his life with Hydra. She had grown attached to the young man from Brooklyn, despite her best efforts. She always did everything she could to heal him. Not because they were her orders, but because she cared for him and wouldn’t let him die. She made that promise to him many times. She would never let him die as long as it was in her power to do so. And in return, Sargent Barnes promised to protect her, forever and always, as long as it was in his power to do so.
Angel turns her hand over and grimaces at the still prevalent bruises on her wrist after one of The Assets guards attacked her after making a snarky remark about his ability to do his job correctly. All the guard got in was a tight grip on her wrist and a slight shove before The Asset had him in a headlock threatening to kill him if he laid a finger on Angel again.
After that day, word spread quick around Hydra.
Don’t mess with The Asset’s Angel or face his wrath.
Angel is pulled from her thoughts when an alarm sounds throughout the facility. Before the third alarm, Angel is sprinting through the corridors to meet up with her Bucky but freezes in her tracks when she sees two men dragging his lifeless body between them.
“What happened?!” She shrieks at his handlers. She rushes ahead to open the door to the operating room and prepare her supplies.
“Many more people than expected. Took many bullets to chest.” One of the handlers replies in broken English.
“I thought the whole point of him having handlers was so stuff like this didn’t happen,” she sends a glare over to the men as they lay him down on her table. “He might be a super soldier but he can still die you imbeciles!”
“That won’t happen. He has the best nurse in the world to make sure he doesn’t.” Angel sends another glare to the other man as she takes off his tactile gear to get a better look at his wounds.
“Look, I am aware that you assholes couldn’t care less about what happens to him as long as he finishes his missions but it would make my job a lot easier if you weren’t trying to kill him on purpose.” The men chuckle at the girl’s remark and walk out the door of the room to leave her to do her job, alone.
Nine hours later, Angel slumps down against the wall and sits on the floor as she cleans the blood off her hands. Tears roll down her face as she takes what seems like her first breath since the alarms went off. She uses her arm to wipe her tears away and looks at the man on the table and listens to his heart monitor beeping away.
After nine hours of removing bullets from his body, replacing the blood that he lost and praying to any and every god out there, Bucky was finally stable enough that all there was left for Angel to do is sit and wait and let Bucky’s body do the rest.
As Angel sat there on the floor of the dirty operating room, watching the man she cared for cling to life, she knew, this was the last straw. She couldn’t just sit back and watch Hydra use Bucky as a weapon anymore.
She was going to help Bucky escape. Even if it killed her in the process.
“Angel I can’t let you do that.”
“You don’t have a say in the matter Bucky. I’ve made up my mind,” Angel looks into his eyes as she redresses his wounds. “I’m getting you out of here. No matter the cost.”
Bucky stares back at the girl’s ocean blue eyes. Bucky remembers the day they met. She was so timid and afraid. Now it seemed like she wasn’t afraid of anything because she knew she would never have to be afraid as long as Bucky was around. “Fine. But only if you come with me.”
“I could probably live with that arrangement.” Slowly Angel starts to crack a smile and Bucky soon follows suit along with a light laugh before he flinches in pain. “Careful Bucky, don’t want to make it worse.”
Bucky smiles gratefully at the girl who has brought him a few moments of joy with every day of pain. “So when do we leave?”
“As soon as your well enough.”
Three days later, Angel heads to the office of the man in charge of The Asset.
“Sir?”
“What is it Angel?”
“I have a favor to ask.”
He waves his hand for her to continue as he signs some paperwork.
“I would like permission to bring The Asset outside of the facility for further medical healing.”
The man looks up at the girl. “Do I look crazy to you? Permission denied.” And with that the man returns to his paperwork.
“But sir, despite was you may believe, The Asset is still a human being and human beings need clean fresh air and, quite frankly, a will to live in order for the body to heal properly.” Angel strides over and puts her hands on his desk in front of the man. “Please. Just an hour. I’ll personally take him outside and we will take a walk around the facility and come back. Just enough to bring his spirits back up.”
The man stares at the girl for a few seconds before rolling his eyes. “You’re lucky I’m in your debt for saving my life all that time ago.”
“Is that a yes?”
“I’ll give you 30 minutes not a second more.”
“Thank you, sir.” Angel straightens up and prepares to walk out the door before the man’s voice stops her.
“Of course you’ll need to take a guard detail with you too. Just to make sure he doesn’t do anything to hurt you after all.” Angel turns her head around and sees the man with his signature sniveling smile.
“Of course, sir.” Angel turns back to the door and grits her teeth. So close.
A little while later Angel is bundled up in her winter coat and clothing and helps Bucky put his on too. Their guard detail consists of three men armed with assault rifles and a plethora of other “defenses”.
Angel reaches to take hold of Bucky’s arm but pauses and looks to him for permission as he quickly nods his head. Angel grabs Bucky’s arm and drapes it over her shoulders to help him walk. As they walk down the hallway to the door of the facility, Bucky whispers in her ear for only her to hear, “I didn’t know they were part of the plan.”
“They weren’t.” Angel replies just barely for him to hear.
“Hey! What are you two talking about?” One of the guards, named Wolf, starts poking his gun in their direction.
Angel doesn’t skip a beat when she replies, “We’re talking about how great our sex is. You should totally join us sometime.”
Bucky can’t help but let out a little snicker. “You really should. I love to have a rag doll to throw around in the bed.”
This time it was Angel’s turn to let out a laugh of her own. Even one of the guards got a couple chuckles in before another told him to shut up.
“Let’s just get this walk over with. Its below freezing outside.”
Yes granted this probably wasn’t the best time of year to be planning an escape but what could they do? It was the middle of winter. They couldn’t just wait another three months until the weather warmed up.
As they opened the door, the icy wind hit them all in the face and the reality of the situation set in. They would not be returning to this place.
The walk around the facility took longer than expected with Bucky still healing and in pain but they made do.
Suddenly, Bucky collapses screaming in immense amount of pain. “Bucky!” Angel kneels down and checks his wounds. She turns to the guards, “I need one of you to run to my lab and get me a vile that says morphine on it and a syringe and needle.” The guards just stood there looking at each other. “NOW!”
One of the guards take off running towards the door they came out off. Angel does the best she can to help alleviate the pain that Bucky is feeling at the moment when a noise comes from nearby.
“What was that?” Angel looks at her guards with worry on her face.
“I’ll go check it out,” The guard Wolf replies and turns to the last remaining guard,” Don’t let them out of your sight!” pointing to Angel and Bucky laying on the snow covered ground.
Angel does a few more probing around Bucky’s chest without taking off his jacket. “Do you have any bandages?” She turns to the guard.
The guard stumbles around his various pockets trying to find some bandages before he resolves to lay his gun on the ground so it would be easier to look.
As if she were trained, Angel leaps up and lunges for the gun and sends a kick to the guard’s chest sending him falling down the hill at top speed. “Bucky, GO!”
Bucky quickly stands up from where he was laying, grabs Angel’s arm and starts running through the woods. “You’re a pretty good actress.”
“I could say the same about you Bucky”
They run as fast as they can. Angel tosses the gun to Bucky since he has more experience with them anyway. They keep running to get as far away as possible when a tree right next to Angel explodes. She backs away from the tree and turns to see Wolf pointing his gun right at her chest. “Next time I won’t miss, Sweetheart.”
Bucky raises his gun in return before growling at the man, “Don’t call her Sweetheart.”
Angel hears footsteps coming from all around them. She turns to see at least fifty more Hydra agents, all around them, running towards them with guns drawn. And they’re all pointing at Angel.
“Drop the gun Soldier! Or would you prefer to see your love with fifty bullet holes in her chest?”
Bucky turns to look at Angel. She’s looking back at him with tears in her eyes. So close. Slowly Bucky lowers his gun, drops it on the ground beside him and holds his hands above his head to show surrender. The agents approach slowly and take his arms and lock them behind his back, places his muzzle on his face and then kick his knees out from under him to make him kneel.
“Don’t hurt him! It was my idea,” Angel yells from the side as more agents handcuff her wrists behind her as well.
“Oh we know Sweetheart,” Wolf approaches her slowly with a knife drawn. “However, The Asset must be punished for his disobedient actions. But don’t you fret little one,” Angel watches Bucky as he strains to free himself to protect her as Wolf takes his knife and slides it down her cheek drawing the slightest amount of blood. “We have a special punishment for you.”
