Idk how well text posts do on Trolls Tumblr, but I have so many thoughts rn and want to talk about feral Branch details.

Feral Branch HC:

Branch has fur, claws on both his feet and hands, his ears move like a cat, and he can see better in the dark

"Feral Trolls" are gray trolls who have adapted from being away from others. Trolls have a built in instinct that recognizes strength in numbers. You see this with rainbow trolls being able to change their colors/auras, and all trolls being able to manipulate their hair. Gray trolls cannot change their aura, but they are around others so they can stay normal

But isolated gray trolls biologically change due to them not being around others. This happens over years, and not automatic. Once a troll changes like this, they cannot undo it. So this is why Branch cannot go back to "normal" physically, even tho he isn't gray and around others

(there's also a psychological/self actualization part. Gray trolls tend to see themselves as the problem and rainbow trolls end up more likely to becoming "feral" looking due to their ability to change their aspects.)

All genres have feral trolls, all presenting differently. Rock and pop are the most similar since they are the two physically closest looks wise

Normal trolls are omnivores, but eat more plants since their digestive systems and body needs focus more on plants. Feral trolls need more meat, but are still omnivorses

If I can get psychological, a lot of their "feral tendencies" are actually just trauma responses and bad socialization issues due to isolation. A lot of responses are stemmed from fear and anger, so lashing out/growling/swiping at others is normally out of fear or response. Plus having to survive in the wild, y'know?

Okay. Done with that part, let's get into Branch!

Branch likes to be in trees and high ground. It comes from living in a pod in the troll tree, but he lives in the bunker because it's safer. So you'll find him in trees normally because he likes being high

Branch normally hibernates during the winter, but ever since he met Poppy he stopped hibernating. This makes him horribly grumpy during the snow season

Not shown: Branch loving his ears to be scratched. Her more sensitive than normal and he loves them being pet. He also loves to lay on top of people. It comes from the need of warmth and him thinking that others need warmth.

He wouldn't lick others, since they don't have fur. But if he's around other feral trolls he'd definitely lick them.

His parents were both half rock and half pop trolls. They both looked like rainbow pop trolls, and the rock parent (dad) did not live in the troll tree. Grandma Rosiepuff was the maternal grandmother and a pop troll

The parents names were Briar and Melody

Branch has the need to burrow all the time. It comes from years in the bunker and from hiding from danger in the earlier years. You will see him burried in someone's bed probably.

Branch is really good at math and science once he starts learning and back into the village. It comes naturally to him. He wants to be a pod architect because it comes naturally to him

Clay and Bruce follow the same thing, where Clay really likes accounting and Bruce loves to run business.

Floyd is the best at performing, with JD behind him. JD though is actually really good at taking care of others and survival. Surprisingly JD can garden and keep a ton of plants alive to feed himself.

Branch and Clay are autistic with different levels of support needed. Branch needs less support while Clay needs more. Thought I'd mention this.

Clay and Viva were best friends before the Troll Tree attack. The others did not know this. Viva and JD are the ones that helped Clay learn better coping mechanisms when the band started to sour

Branch is more sensitive to sound and light. He hates fireworks and doesn't like to be touched unless he knows the person

Ablaze is the one who mainly is teaching Branch coping mechanisms for his PTSD. Poppy is his support throughout everything, but she doesn't know how to help someone heal.

Branch mandates Kismet group cuddles. This dude it touched starved and they’re the only ones he is comfortable like that other than Poppy

Even after Branch is able to speak again, as he was nonverbal when he met Poppy and by Trolls 2 he is speaking again, he prefers to be quiet and doesn't talk as much. It is simply preference at this point

Branch likes to interlock his tail with Poppy's when they're not touching, but close enough :)

my coping mechanism today is writing about a NinjaCon panel where they rank kage. like the audience yells out things to rank and a panel of "experts" pick the top 5 kage.

it's minato POV so i obviously picked "body count" for the first ranking. the panel very carefully defines it as "other ninja struck down in combat" and minato is like "ah of course, bc battles are cool but all the random civilians who starved to death due to our proxy wars aren't" and then he looks at tori and is like: "wait is she going to freak out"

and then when she doesn't he jumps immediately into joking around about murder with her u_u

idk i think minato is nice in that he doesn't like needless cruelty and he's willing to work with people he doesn't necessarily like that much to make them happy/satisfied bc he wants to lead by getting people to want to work with/for him, and he's very good at that. so i think if you randomly had a panic attack in front of him, he might rub your back or help you into an isolated area or w/e, but i don't think he'd actually care unless you were from his tiny inner circle (which is all people he's vetted as worth caring about, so their breakdowns are obviously merited and yours are probably just a personality weakness, duh)

at this point in the fic i think team 4 is at some sort of weird periphery of his inner circle. he does want to maintain a good informal relationship but he doesn't quite care-care. idk how he'd react to tori having an actual problem besides the kind he can just murder. those are easy. barely real problems

i also want to write a scene later where they get dinner together (bc kakashi has run off with a hot cosplayer) and he's like. okay now that we're isolated in a foreign country. tell me what you did to orochimaru? pleeeease? and tori's answer is basically like "well, he gave me an order i didn't like, so then obviously i spent years subtly sabotaging his village so i could pull the trigger and flee whenever i wanted"

Not to like complain about this again,,, but,,, God Zuko being 13 when he's burned and banished is just so important to his character and it makes so much of him make sense. Idk aging him up say, 3 years just doesn't work. Obviously what ozai did was horrific whatever age Zuko was. But Zuko was never going to last in the fire nation. He wasn't going to make it past 14 max. Unlike Aang, Zuko doesn't run from responsibility- if anything he runs towards it. That's why even at 13 he sneaks his way into a war meeting. It's why, when he hears a plan that would wrongly sacrifice an entire division of new recruits, he speaks out. Yes, (pre-scar) 16 year old Zuko would speak out against the plan, but he was never going to make it to 16 in ozai's fire nation.

Of all of the characters, Zuko's age is probably the most important when it comes to his backstory. Aang's age is also pretty important, but only bc a 15 year old aang running from being the avatar is not as sympathetic as a 12 year old aang told too soon. Katara and Sokka being 3 years older doesn't change much of their backstory regardless of where you add in the 3 years, same with Toph. Although, i do think a 15 year old Toph would have probably would have run away from home already.

Besides that, like Zuko being in the height of grumpy disrespectful teen angst during the show makes complete sense when he was horrifically burned banished at 13 and spent the next 3 years chasing a ghost. But Zuko at 16 being burned and banished would be more likely to recognize the quest for what it was. 13-14 year old Zuko is naive enough to believe that ozai wants him back. And like, i get that everyone of any age wants their parent to love them and that the hope that somehow it isn't a hopeless quest is powerful. And i know older teens and even adults give their parents chances when they know it's hopeless. But a 16 year old would be more likely to recognize that it's an impossible quest. A 16 year old freshly banished Zuko would still be in denial but not nearly as naive as 13 year old freshly banished Zuko. The main issue is that Zuko getting older means he becomes more aware of the world around him and thus he can't ignore the suffering that the fire nation causes to itself (the world too but Zuko couldn't see that unless he left the fire nation). As Zuko reaches 15 it just becomes unlikely that he'd never sneak out of the palace (and we know he has the skill to) and once he does sneak out he'd be unable to keep quiet and ignore any suffering he saw. Factoring Iroh's influence and a 16 yr old never banished Zuko would wise up to the problems of the fire nation.

I also can't help but notice that the 3 extra years of Iroh influencing Zuko aren't often factored into how different Zuko would be. A Zuko who isn't bent on chasing a ghost would be more easily influenced by Iroh. A freshly banished 16 year old Zuko who is old enough to notice the problems within the fire nation would be more open to Iroh's anti war stance. That Zuko would probably be mature enough for Iroh to actually discuss treason with. Iroh and Zuko were close before Lu Ten died. If Zuko had 3 extra years around Iroh without the trauma of his scar and banishment, season 1 Zuko would have been very different (even if he's still grumpy and angsty). To the point that, we'd probably have white lotus!Zuko.

On the flip side, lengthening Zukos banishment helps ease some of the issues from making him 16 when banished. But even Zuko would mellow out a bit after 6 years of chasing a ghost. Idk i was just reading a fic and put of nowhere they mention Zuko being like 19/20 and it totally took me out of the fic. Like season 2 Zuko's attitude does not work if he's aged up. To some degree, i just think Iroh would kinda get through to him with 3 extra years of tea and metaphors. And without the avatar actually showing up (which gives Zuko tunnel vision) Zuko would get worn down. He would notice the harm the fire nation is causing and his morals would set in.

ALSO trolley problem answers for spinder & anyone else who you think has a creative solution 👀

Spinder gets the point of this thought exercise but if they're going to ask such a contrived question, he's going to give a contrived answer. Which means he would learn a lot about trolleys and how easy it is to derail them (I am far from an expert but I think it would depend on the landscape. I suspect a trolley with a cable grip, like in San Francisco, is harder to derail if the cable grip is active, but idk). He's got a whole plan for derailing, or otherwise mechanically disrupting the trolley (if it stops pulling power does it stop moving? how fast can he get on the roof?). Aside from his absolute pettiness he also can't help but imagine the fallout from having vehicularly manslaughtered one or more people and he doesn't think he could deal with that.

Christina "now you're thinking with warpals" Larousse would just warp the trolley. Ideally this would happen after she already was not in the trolley, but if she has to die with it, so be it. In general, if sacrificing herself would save everyone else, she'd probably do it. But if there are other people in the trolley, as in some versions of the problem, because she's not going to sacrifice them to warp. Hypothetically she could just warp away the split in the track, thereby derailing the trolley and saving everyone. But that's a much smaller target than a trolley and harder to hit when she's moving. If she had to actually abide by the rules of the exercise she would kill the one person. Unless that one person was her father. Then she'd be so paralyzed about it that she'd do nothing and the five people would die. Which is still a lot less people than she indirectly enabled Althea to kill, but that's cold comfort.

Althea would let the five be killed without hesitation if there was a single person among them that had ever pissed her off. She doesn't really care either way, but it would feel better to get a little revenge. However, she would also switch away from a track Christina is tied to, an absolutely frigid comfort for Christina.

Vic, among others, has pointed out that if you do nothing, you're not responsible for what happens. Which is a tenuous position, but he would like it to be true. But he'd also rather kill one person than five, so make of that what you will.

Celia and Allison are still wondering what kind of Gotham-ass trolley line this is, like, first of all, how did these people get tied to the tracks? Is this some kind of a trick? Are the five people all robots and the one person a human? There's just not enough information here.

Dez would be extremely dismayed by the idea that the five people could be robots. But if they were, they have backups, right? Right? Syndy is already holding him back from steering away from the five probably-robots, because she considers herself an expert on how humans die, actually, so they can't run over the human. If the robots turn out to be humans, they are both scarred for life and also the first androids to go to jail, probably. They develop a weird game of chicken where they keep saying they're going to delete the memories but come up with reasons not to. Doing this only deals them more psychic damage.

"You just gotta kill the one person," Avis says, with total conviction and complete boredom. "That's how these puzzles work. You gotta do a shitty thing, so you have to do the least shitty version of the thing." It's a toss up if she'd automatically run over the five if she was considering whether or not to run over Sid as the one person, though.

It's usually pretty far behind me, but he crops back up periodically, and this time around it's been particularly difficult for me because it hit pretty close to where I live.

I have heard that he's "getting help," allegedly, but he was also "getting help" when we were together—he was just extremely oppositionally defiant and blamed his psych for his lack of progress, then attacked anyone who pointed out that he had to actively participate in his own recovery if he ever wanted to actually get better. No matter how many people believe him this time around, it's the same song and dance he was doing two years ago, and I don't imagine much else has changed.

The problem is that he's a liar. He lied to me about everything from the nature of the high school he attended to the various treatments he'd been given for conditions he may or may not even have. He repurposed experiences that previous friends and partners (and possibly even patients, he's a nurse) had gone through as if they were his own, claiming struggles that he'd never experienced in order to garner sympathy and respect. Any claim of recovery that he makes should be taken as false unless there's an actual difference in behavior—something of which I haven't heard a word—and any claim of innocence should be rejected wholecloth, as he is undeniably guilty.

It sucks that he's so determined to keep pushing back into this space where he hurt so many people, and sucks even more that there are so many others who are okay with it even when faced with proof of his past actions. One can never earn forgiveness if they refuse to admit fault, and he never once took responsibility for what he did to anyone in the entire time I knew him.

I'll be all right. I just hope everyone around him will be, too.

i actually find it hard to understand how that goes down “realistically” because it doesn’t really make sense frankly. okay so anders is being affected by corypheus so justice takes over to protect him, sure, and justice is terrified and out of control in that situation, believable. and we resolve this situation by... fighting justice into the ground? that helps? and justice summons shades? justice summons demons? justice??? like unless i’m misunderstanding something that is just outright unbelievable to me to the point that i’m tempted to read this as a varric cover-up of something. idk what i’m going for here at all but something something connecting it to my point from ages ago abt how justice’s characterisation getting butchered and left for dead by the da2 writers could be translated as varric villifying justice a little to shift blame.

idk what that means i think would have “really” happened here instead. maybe that keir talked justice down rather than fighting him (which is something he did before, in dissent, and also just more realistically helpful) and varric didn’t want to let slip quite how much continual influence keir was capable of having over justice. straight up just to avoid further accusations of keir being involved with the chantry explosion. but also this could honestly be not just “this is what would’ve happened if varric were not narrating” but a simple “this is what would have actually happened if this were not a video game where combat solves problems”

I don't intend to sound rude, but related to the tags about opening the door... What is considered polite vs. rude? I have been (sometimes loudly) informed that opening/holding the door for someone is rude and belittling, but also that not opening/holding the door is rude and passive aggressive... Is there some guideline to when it is or is not appropriate?

Okay so this is a good question but first of all I have to say I'm not a regular wheelchair user. My disability is invisible, for the main part anyways, but im currently fresh from yet another surgery. I'm not an expert in the way someone who uses a wheelchair all the time is.

But to answer your question, the distinction for me is whether or not its natural to open the door or not. Opening the door for someone when you're both going through it in close succession is natural and polite. I can't imagine anyone being offended by that unless you make a huge deal out of it or act like a dick. Alternatively the other person might have a really bad day idk.

In the situation yesterday, however, the only reason he opened the door for me was because I'm in a wheelchair. I was alone in a room with a glass door. The man in question was sitting about 5 metres away on the other side of the door, eating some soup. I had just turned around, and sat directly in front of the door, with a bag on my lap rearranging the straps. He happened to glance over at me, and then got up so quickly I thought he'd spill his soup. He rushed over to the door and opened it. And let's be clear, I was sitting alone in a semi private room, focused on my bag.

I'm sure his intentions were good! Im sure he was pleased with himself for being nice afterwards. But the message he sent was still "I don't think you could be capable of opening a door, I'm here to save you" which isn't really nice at all. I had given no indications of struggling, and in fact him opening the door just created a bigger obstacle for me. Firstly I felt rushed, and second, instead of me moving my arm a bit to open the door fully, and then going out in my own pace at the angle i wanted, he was in the way. Because he insisted on holding the door (which btw wasn't going to close on its own) I had to maneuver around him and the door, which involved turning an additional 90°, get one wheel over a threshold that I'd otherwise steer clear of, and then backing up a bit before I could go. Not the biggest problem in the world, I admit, but still annoying and unnecessary. Add to that that my chair pulled to the left, the casters had a tendency to get stuck, and the maneuverability of the chair was awful, in part because it didn't fit me well, it became more of an issue. Because there were other people eating around, I also had to make sure I didn't bump into anyone or anything.

So him "helping" actually created a bigger issue, and he had no idea. And now imagine all of this happening to you, only it's the umpteenth time this day. Because everyone wants to "be nice" and "help".

If you've never been in a wheelchair it is incredibly difficult to understand what may or may not be an issue. Even if you have, wheelchairs vary, and wheelchair users vary. What's simple to me might be incredibly difficult for someone else. What's simple to someone else might be difficult or impossible for me with my limited experience and shitty chair. And you have no way of knowing where the person falls on that spectrum without asking.

Dont ask willy nilly though. Imagine you're going about your day doing something you've done countless times with no issues and someone asks if you need help. First time it might be sort of nice, if a bit strange, by the third time it's getting annoying fast, and by the 20th time you've lost all your patience. At that point, its been less than an hour since the first person asked. If that happened every time you went out, wouldn't you get a bit snappy at some of the random people?

Which brings us neatly to the closest thing to a rule of thumb I can come up with: ask yourself: Would you do it if they weren't using an assistive device?

If we copy paste the scenario above but remove the wheelchair, that'd seem buck wild to most people. An adult guy is fiddling with his backpack when a random stranger rushes to hold the door open for him? No. Bad. Don't.

Someone is clearly struggling to open a door or hold it open? Ask if they need help, regardless of their assistive devices or lack thereof. If they say yes: open the door for them. If they say no: Don't.

You're passing through a door but let it smack into the person behind you? Bad regardless

So TL;DR

If you wouldn't do it for someone without assistive devices, don't do it to someone with. If you would do it for someone without assistive devices, ask before doing it, and respect the answer.

What are your henry stickmin headcanons?

1Hoooo boy I have a lot and they also fluctuate very frequently but I can try to give you my current ones! They will be below the cut though because it is long.

Dr. Vinschpinsilstien is proooobably on some watchlist or another within the CCC, and she has her workshop on a boat because there’s a lot less chaos out in the ocean and as a result no CCC members patrolling that region, thus she’s a lot less likely to get caught for her hubris.

Burt is colorblind. His headphones are orange but Puff said that his shoes were either blue or green. I have in fact worked out the exact right shades of green for this.

Autism headcanons: Charles, Burt, and Mr. Macbeth. Do I have any specific reasons for these? No I do not.

Hubert Galeforce is likely known among his army for his more chaotic tendencies (i.e. getting a criminal’s help in dealing with an army of criminals), but he’s able to hide it well enough around other groups within the government to get away with most of it.

Hubert and Dmitri? Divorced. The only argument I have for this one is it’s funny as hell.

Idk if this necessarily counts but Grigori needs a better job. Dmitri is a dick and Grigori seems so new to working at the Wall that he shouldn’t be second in command. (x) That’s not on Grigori for not knowing stuff that’s on Dmitri for hiring someone and making them second in command immediately after. (I love Dmitri and I love to hate Dmitri.) On the flip side, Grigori would make an excellent self defense teacher imo.

Reginald Copperbottom has ADHD, either mixed or predominantly hyperactive. His anxiety levels are either very low or skyrocketing into panic mode with little in-between, he avoids stepping on others' toes unless they've pissed him off, he doesn't think much of pressing problems until they become urgent, he tends to be very talkative and speak for long periods of time if given the opportunity to, he's seen frequently pulling at his mustache when pleased about something or making this noise when in distress, and based on Sven's dialogue about having to "dig through mountains of paperwork" to find the old leaders' rocket plans suggests he's very disorganized.

Along those lines, Reginald doesn’t take well to sitting in one place for very long unless he’s free to move around in whatever seat he’s sitting in.

Somewhat recently I posted a shitton of headcanons for Billy G. (plus Reginald) and Jaques Kensington in a separate post.

Reginald actually grew up alongside the Toppat Clan since his parents were both Toppats, so he thinks of the clan as his family.

The downside of that is his actual parents were pretty neglectful. Reggie didn't have kids his age to play with either, so he'd pretty much cling to whoever didn't tell him to go away. (And that's how Billy G. ended up as his surrogate father figure.)

Contrary to what most people assume, Right Hand Man is the one who tends to be picky about his food; meanwhile Reginald would order fast food every day of the week if the costs didn’t accumulate so quickly. Also Reginald has an insatiable sweet tooth, and while this is fine most of the time, sometimes RHM has to make sure that Reginald doesn’t consume a full container of cookie dough and make himself sick.

When Wilford was in charge, RHM got himself into a lot of trouble because he hated the idea of listening to someone in charge if he didn't have a good reason to do so. Because of this people usually assume that he hates listening to authority, but he's very cooperative if an order makes sense to him. As you can imagine, he absolutely loathed Terrence for this.

To clarify, Sir Wilford IV was very responsible for the most part, but he also sometimes had a need to assert his own authority, which was a source of conflict between him and who we’d later know as Right Hand Man.

There are exceptions, but in general a quiet RHM is a happy/content RHM. He isn’t usually talkative unless something is wrong or he has a good reason to speak. Am I the only one who notices how unusually talkative RHM Blue is?

I've been thinking about these 3 alot...

... and how much they seem to really respect Shino. I know it's a filler, but, like... Why does it seem like Shino has a knack for finding children who have wondered off away from school? Like, he's just taking a walk, making his way around the village or surrounding forest, and then there they are. Kids playing hooky or some shit. And Shino just takes it upon himself to approach them and steer them back to where they should be, while getting them attached to him somehow in the process??

But honestly. If this was just one of many times this had happened, I'd say Shino does this not out of his knack for teaching or having a way with kids. Rather, he developed a way with kids and easily applies that to his teaching because he has a strong desire to simply protect children. And it's not even from some paternal instinct as much as survival, because I think it stems from the developing trauma of losing Torune to Danzo. And I don't think it's all subconscious either.

Like I know the novel and anime frames his desicion to teach as a sort of a new goal in life as the war has ended for a couple years already and a noticable Peace has been achieved by the Blank Period and well... He's an Aburame.

Like, the Aburame are literal living, breathing, walking bioweapons. With no fight to utilize that, what else is there? Well, much like the Nara have the Nara forest and Pharmacology specifically, The Aburame most likely have a historical stake in the area of Konoha, perhaps it was simply in their Ancestral Home. Idk, but they're here to stay, they ain't budging. They're Clan Culture is very Martial and I'd argue Spartan in nature, but otherwise, they do other things too. I think they'd do well as major players in the conservation and research of native species of animals and plants, but definitely insects too. I bet they play a huge part in the general area's ecosystem, especially due to the fact that the Kamizuru clan attacked with a whole clan's worth of non-native Hymenoptera that could very well have become and still are an irritatingly and consistent problem as invasive species tend to be. And as a far as goods go, why not put some of them to use and handle an apiary? Honey is a great good to sell. All of this is great as a clan that no longer needs to fight. But, what about individual members in general, and so Shino?

Well Shino is the Heir of this clan. This Noble Clan. This "ready to throw hands at any moment" clan. It's future is in his hands, so to speak. So I doubt Shino would completely sever his connection to Shinobi life all together. And so, teaching at the Academy would be a great way to keep that connection. Teachers have to know their stuff, after all.

But what if in order to ensure teaching was his calling, Shino did his absolute best to make Jounin ASAP so he could take on a Genin Team. And. And by chance, it ended up being these three?? And they are absolutely STOKED!!! And they also pass Shino's genin test, which... would probably be a feat in it's own right. But they already know Shino, and Shino has bestowed upon them some wisdom they actually took to heart! Yeah, well, in reality they might be just a tad too old to be Shino's first official genin squad, but they were still his squad one point in a sense, right?

Kon Nohara, Tano Ikemoto, and Aoki Kobayashi

I even gave them names help Imagine these three are already chuunin at least and decide they want to pay Shino a visit and even volunteer to help Shino during class time on a collective day off because they admire him so much (T~T)

But even then if not these three kiddos, maybe these three li'l shits lol

Even in times of Peace, Shino's special set of skills seem too useful to waste, and being a Jounin teacher would definitely have been a way he could still go on missions, but also definitely commit to becoming a Sensei at the academy once he was 100% sure and got older. Kurenai became a Jounin/Genin Squad Leader in her late twenties, but in comparison I see Shino doing that more mid-20s. (He needs some time to travel and find his big bug friend and generally live a little?)

Kurenai was a Genjutsu Specialist who manned a Tracker/Sensing based team. This sounds like it was a highly beneficial combination, even if she ended up being somewhat sadistic lol. Asuma was bound to Team 10 by Tradition as InoShikaCho and Sarutobi have that Pact together. Kakashi's team was literally Cherry Picked for him specifically by the 3rd Hokage. And Gai, a Taijutsu Specialist, had a team that Specialized in Taijutsu and Physical Offense.

Of all four teams, Kurenai and Gai were very suited to their teams, Gai in a complimentary way and Kurenai in a Challenging way. In that same vein, I think Shino would imitate Gai. Shino as a Shinobi himself has a general set of skills, but the way he goes about them are very niche. But, he was always very stealthy, and could sneak up on nearly anyone. Gags aside, he could go unnoticed as long as he wanted too, and by the time he was noticed or was ready to attack, he has you quite literally surrounded. Honestly I can see why Search and Destroy would be an Aburame's forte, but when there's no need, a person with a personal skill of high quality stealth could probably man a team with an emphasis on Reconnaissance and/or Surveillance, even Bodyguarding. I feel like Shino would probably put an emphasis on Stealth and Tracking too, utilizing his insects as sort of assistants that keep tabs on his students (Stealth Test) as well as to encourage just enough fear during too much down time in his students to inspire quality training opportunities, so maybe Kurenai rubbed off on Shino more than they all realized haha

(Plus I'm sure his students would be be smart and thoughtful enough to eventually understand what Shino and his bugs are: a complete unit. They realize just how strong and dedicated Sensei really is to be the way he is, and they all learn more in depth about Kikaichu and it's like WOW SENSEI YOU REALLY ARE RISKING BEING EATEN ALIVE EVERY SINGLE DAY, AREN'T YOU? But he's still here, because THAT'S how strong he's become over the years and the confidence to manipulate the Kikaichu while having to think of current chakra level, the most efficient use at any given time, how many he actually needs, how long usage will last, ect. They are high maintenance, man!)

Shino would no doubt produce highly skilled Bodyguards and Masters of Stealth. Maybe the type that would end up being in high demand for the eventual Celebrities that start to pop up as times change, but still very much needed when it comes to Criminal Activity, like in Sora-Ku?

But as time passes and he decided to teach at the Academy, he'd feel very at ease to do so. He'd be happy to be put in charge of all these children, because he would be able to help teach them things they need to know to defend themselves and others in a world where adults like Danzo had and will continue to exist. Maybe while he's at it, he'd use his stance as a Noble Clan Heir and accomplished Shinobi to push for changes in government with Sai's help and with Naruto and Shikamaru's cooperation? Like, the truth does come out, everyone on the Council were actually horrible and had too much power. So HERE are some ideas and REASONS why these ideas should be implemented because Shino's not going to let his brother's life and death be in vain!? HELL no, we WILL make some changes around here. Shino sees his students and just wants a future where no kid ever has to live in fear of being completely taken advantage of by the very system that was supposed to keep them safe and they pledged allegiance to.

I cannot help but think of the quiet but absolute fear little Shino was harboring for the years to come after Torune was taken by that strange man and Father Shibi didn't even attempt to stop him. His own father didn't dare beat the shit out of this strange man who came looking for him, and the only solution for Shino to stay was for Torune to make himself look more desirable as an asset and be taken instead. I bet there was a lot of misplaced resentment there for a while, and talks that just didn't happen. Maybe a classmate doesn't show up to class one day and Shino is IMMEDIATELY stressed out and just... takes it upon himself to look for them after class. And he's relieved when he see they're simply at home with a fever. Shit like that just fucks with Shino, because theres people taking kids and no one is doing anything about it?? And then as Shino grew older he realized exactly what happened and how slimy the machine of Konoha really is and it was never completely Shibi's fault that Torune had to leave. He grows mentally at a faster rate than most of his classmates, and knows more than a kid really needs to know.

Shino doesn't want that for any other child. Shino is the kind of person who hears kids screaming outside of his house and he can't tell if they're playing or being murdered and it's stressful to the point he'll check through his window and he sees them for himself. He get stressed out seeing a kid in public unattended and WANTS to approach them to help if need be but also maybe he's overthinking it and the parents are there somewhere and he'd just end up looking suspicious. Like, that's what I kind of figure for Shino. He's so hyperaware of the power dynamic between kids and adults and seeing a kid so ready to fall victim to that makes Shino feel ill the more he thinks of what could happen. And he wonders if watching the kid in the market until they finally reunite with their parent so he could move on with the rest of his day causes him even a fraction of the the utterly disgusting flurry of nerves and fear that Shibi must have felt all those years ago. It goes along with his desire to spare every single little insect's life he can. It goes a long with the fact he only gets violent unless absolutely necessary. Like he wants to be strong but he doesn't want to go mad with power either, less he becomes the very thing that hurt him and his family in the first place.

Originally Shino wanted to become strong to be able to defend himself because at a very young age adults failed him and Torune. But then that changes to defend not only himself, but others as he grows on a team, and realizes trust is important. And then he figured if there must be adults out there that would hurt a child, it's only logical that he should become one that would only nurture and teach one to be strong as well.

Anyway, yeah. Had some feelings. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

last night's ep was so good but now i feel like we need a backstory to the backstory, you know?? like i have to know how things escalated to that point. also the implication that both owen and gwyn already knew he had a drug problem?? i guess they trusted him to take care of it on his own, but it got worse instead of better?

yeah honestly, I have sooo many questions after that episode about TK's addiction and the dynamics between him and his parents. when did he start, how long did Gwyn and Owen know? how did his firehouse see him then? what was different about this time that meant Gwyn decided on rehab?

I feel like it was less that they left him to take care of it and more that they felt they could manage to help him themselves? like, TK's comments about interventions in season 2 suggests that maybe they tried the intervention route and just support him themselves, but that wasn't enough?

what I am curious about is Owen. hoo boy. what on earth is going on there. I mentioned in this post here about TK's determination to maintain his ability to work, and his resilience in the face of his addiction to preserve that connection to Owen and that sense of family that he craved with him, but was Owen aware that he was suffering because then...what? were Owen and Gwyn under the impression that he'd got clean, and this incident was after Gwyn had found out somehow that that wasn't the case? because if Owen knew... I don't even want to think about that.

and honestly, it doesn't make sense to me if Owen knew - everything we've seen has indicated that he's always been very driven to help maintain TK's sobriety - the move to Austin, keeping TK living with him, ensuring he doesn't face professional consequences for the overdose so he can keep working, questioning him about his AA meetings- it doesn't make sense that he'd have been so lax, unless the reaction in 1x01 and onwards is rooted in guilt? but I feel like we would have known about that if that was the case?

Gwyn, actually, seems to feel a lot more guilty about TK and his addiction than Owen does - think 2x08 "if he is in some bar, or some alley right now because of us..." and the fact that she's the one finding him and booking him into rehab - idk, it just seems a lot more like she feels responsible for it all and I want to know why. (maybe she was taking prescription oxy for some kind of pain/injury and TK stole them from her and that's how he started? just a thought) it actually reminds me of Carlos and his tendency to also feel guilty for things that weren't within his control.

also i'm a little skeptical of the fact that nobody mentioned the fentanyl to carlos.... but ronen's sort of implied that it's gonna come up again and i for one hope it's DRAMA when carlos does find out.

while I agree that it's an interesting omission, I also understand that the pace of the ep made it a difficult bit of info to get to Carlos quickly and kindly - that meeting at the airport before the flight was hardly a good moment for "hi yeah TK might have tried to steal fentanyl from his own work - okay bye see you in New York." I think that would be more appropriate for a conversation after they've decompressed a little from all that trauma...but also I can see it slipping through the cracks, and considering it took a life or death situation for TK to confess it to Owen, I can see him wanting to hide it from Carlos, someone with whom he already has anxieties about fucking up a 'perfect' situation - so he would be hesitant to bring up that indication of instability. I think that this could be a really compelling plot point for their relationship development, especially from Carlos' perspective, with him having to adjust to the reality of being with TK, and being faced with the full reality of dating an addict. I am just hoping that they tackle it conscientiously, without villainising TK for his addiction. cause that would suck.

"Hey sunshine, I got your frog. What's wrong?" you say when entering the boys' bedroom.

It was just after breakfast so everyone was either hurrying towards their lesson or already in class, leaving the dorms and in general the Gryffindor tower empty.

Well, almost empty considering you and your precious boyfriend were still here.

As a matter of fact, you were on your way to class when Sirius' patronus found you and handed you a frog. Knowing exactly what it meant, you turned around and hurried back down the corridors.

Now, it may sound weird for your boyfriend to send you a frog, out of all the things, but there was a reason. Neither you nor Sirius was very good at reaching out and asking for help when something happened. Since it was something you had in common, you couldn't really blame him. But, after the first month of you dating, it was causing more harm than good and you knew that it was something you needed to work on if this relationship was to go on.

So you talked about it and came up with an alternative system. One that didn't involve words and therefore made reaching out and express your feelings easier. And yes, it involved stuffed animals.  Well, when you were in the same room anyway. You restored to patronus when you were not together.

If anyone thought it weird that both of you started carrying around stuffed animals, they didn't show it. Even if they did though, neither of you would have cared much since this method was actually working and had, in fact, saved your relationship.

It was also a great way to quickly check on each other. Receiving a dog, meant the other was fine, happy even, a bird would mean that something exciting had happened or the other had exciting news to share, But a frog, not that was something you dreaded receiving.

It was bad news. It meant that something happened and the other needed comfort or at the very least for their significant other to be there for them.

Hence the reason you almost ran to Sirius, doing your best to skip the step of the stairs that lead to the boys' dormitory without falling on your face.

Last time you had seen Sirius was yesterday night before heading to bed. You had slept in and therefore missed breakfast. What could have gone wrong in such a short amount of time, you wondered. You just hoped that it wasn't anything gravely serious.

The sight that welcomed you when you finally reached him was disheartening, however.

Sirius was laying on his bed, staring at the ceiling. He didn't move, nor when he heard your footsteps nor when you spoke. He just held up an open envelope for you to see and nothing else was needed. You knew what had put him in bad mood.

That goddammit psychotic abusive family of his.

Oh, how you hated them.

The idea that someone couldn't see how wonderful Sirius was and not only that but also the fact that they actively went out of their ways to send him hate and harmful letters even when he was far away and had cut any connections with them?

Fucking absurd.

Sighing, you walked to his bed and quickly stepped out of your shoes before lying next to him. "Do you want to talk about it?" you almost whispered.

Propping you heard on your hand, you gently moved away some of his curls away from his face. He was still not looking at you but he softly shook his head at your question.

Okay, you thought.

You lowered your hand to his face so that your fingers could start tracing his beautiful face. Leaving a small kiss on his temple, you reached out so that your arm was around him. Your kisses slowly moved all over his face. His other temple first, then his forehead. His nose. His cheeks. When it came to his lips, you stopped and just hovered over them.

Gently turning his face to yours, you waited for his eyes to meet yours before speaking. "They don't know the real you, my love."

If only he could see himself the way you saw him. If only he could see how false his family's words were.

"Everything they say is a blatant lie because they do not know you"- emphasis on not - "because if they did, the would agree with me."

The sadness and the hurt in his eyes were so evident that you had to fought tears back. You knew that this was something he had to face on his own and that your words were just that - words. Almost useless. But you had to do something and if there was even the tiniest chance that he'd actually listen to you then you'd try anyway.

"And you know what I think?" you smiled softly at him, your fingers trailing over his bottom lip, "I think that you're amazing. Precious even."

You were sure this was going to come back to bite you in the ass when he was feeling better. Merlin knows how Sirius' ego doesn't need to be stroked. At least, in public, that's how he behaved. But you knew him. You were lucky enough that he had let you in and showed you this side of him that no one knew existed outside his close circle.

He didn't say anything but his eyes didn't move from yours so you took it as a sign to keep going.

"There's no one out there who is so effortlessly brilliant like you are, my love." Leaning back a little from his face, you put some space between you after leaving the smallest of kisses on his lips."And I know for a fact that there is no one out there who cares about others like you do." Emphasizing with your eyes the "no one" part, you were able to coax the faintest of smiles for him.

You had noticed that your weird facial expressions amused him and apparently they worked in these situations too.

"Do you know why I call you sunshine?" You continued, a smile still on your face but your tone more solemn. You had a feeling that it was something he had wondered about since the most obvious choice would have been finding a nickname related to stars. And you knew how much Sirius was interested and fascinated by them.

"Yes, you're named after a star but I don't think it really matches your personality. See? Another proof that they don't know you at all." You lean back to sit on your feet.

"People don't notice stars unless they look up at the sky." Taking one of his hands in yours, you start playing with his fingers. "But you, my love? It would be impossible not to notice you, Sirius." Leaving a kiss on his palm, you intertwine your fingers and hold his hand close to your chest right where your heart is.

"You shine bright like the sun, making everyone around you aware of your presence. And yes, sometimes it can be annoying, but you know what?" At this, his smile grew a little knowing that what you were saying was more than true. Everyone knew that Sirius could also be spelt annoying on most days, especially during class. He got bored easily since he didn't need to study as much as everyone else to understand a concept. Thus, making it his mission to make someone do something with him that isn't studying.

"Everyone misses the sun when it's gone and never tire of it when it's there." Squeezing the hand you were holding, you hoped to have helped a little. Maybe you did, or maybe you didn't but all your efforts were rewarded when Sirius smiled at you. This time he gave you a real smile. As a consequence, yours got bigger.

He has insanely high pain tolerance to deal with this stuff and it's really a detriment. He can get stabbed in the leg and not know unless he looks down because he legit just doesn't feel anything.

He has a bunch of scars around his calves too from scrapes he didn't really think were that deep, so when he thought they were healed enough he'd pick the scab off thinking the skin was grown fine underneath it but no. Picking the scab makes it look like a murder scene with all the blood. That was an interesting night when he had to explain why he had blood on his hands to Tensei who walked in on him by the sink.

• And how does fuel work?? again those are B L U E and purple flames! you need a lot of fuel and gas for that stuff?

Wiki says "he drinks orange juice as a source of fuel for his Quirk, while carbonated drinks make him stall" so it's like Momo's quirk but then what the fuck is his stomach doing?? (Also why doesn't he have Orange Juice or capri suns on hand then??? Give him compartments in his suit for orange juice if that is his literal fuel????)

Poor doctors in mha, 1. Mutant quirks change anatomy so much, the organs have to change too, so things are probably never in the same place, and what if they find a new organ then don't know what is or why it's there?? Because it would be warm oranges because y'know it's fire. Would that smell good? are there fumes with it too? is it like flatulence and oranges? because you do need gas for those blue flames.

Iida has been around the smoke from his engines all his life so he's gone nose-blind toward it and no one gives him a straight answer when he asks if it smells of anything. Uraraka said burnt marshmallows, Tensei (who is also nose-blind to it) said pineapple, Izuku took a whiff and got high. No one is allowed to purposefully whiff it anymore.

• This man needs more leg support damn. That much thrust from his calves can not be good for his knees. I know he's grown up with it so he's used to it, and he either has the strongest knees in existence from all that endurance or his knees dislocate every other time he uses his quirk.

He has so much joint pain. He wants to get a walking stick for his joint pain and it confuses villains because they think that must mean he's out of commission but no, he can easily withstand the pain, the cane just helps. And can also be used as a weapon. The aesthetic bastard probably makes it look like a sword to match his aesthetic.

• Speaking of aesthetic, he saw Denki playing portal 2 one time and saw the characters long fall boots and instantly fell in love with them (he wants to commission Mei to make them but is honestly too scared to,)

He runs so quickly, if he goes up a ramp he will go flying and when he lands, having those kind of boots to cushion the fall wouldhelp exponentially. Also it'll make him even taller and I'm all for that. They also fit his aesthetic!

• More speaking of his aesthetic. I get the whole knight shtick is a family thing and it is also very endearing. But the wind drag. Wind resistance isn't really a problem for us because we go at human speed. He goes at human speed but the human has engines in his legs. That much clunky armour is good for protection especially to cushion the blow if he messes up a run and crashes into something and it's also good for blunt force trauma for up close attacks but there is gonna be so much wind drag. He already has enough speed where it doesn't matter too much if he is dragged just a little bit but I imagine wind drag could mess up balance and stuff. And here's where I'm torn, because he's a rich kid who is proud of his family so wants to carry on the tradition, same hero name, same hero aesthetic, same stuff like that, but should that really go above functionality? I'm not saying to minimise wind resistance he should wear a leotard or speedo or something with no armour like that, and idk the materials used, but that armour looks heavy.

He has so much inner turmoil about this. He always has an identity crisis when this is brought up.

• This bitch's metabolism tho. Orange juice is one fuel, what are the others? whatever they are, he should be eating a lot of it because that stuff gets burnt up so quick. He wouldn't be chubby, because all of his running, and he already looks like a big sturdy guy, I'm just saying, for efficiency, he should look like how Russian Women Who Fight Bears, or a Viking, that kinda physique, strong as hell, big and sturdy.

When I realized Mistyfoot didn't mention her kits in Canon I assumed those whose bones were mixed in with Bonehill, but then I noticed Reedwhisker in TNP and investigated him, found out he was Reedpaw, Misty's kit, and had the same thoughts you did. Mistyfoot, who wouldn't stop training Featherpaw even though she, too, was starved? Mistyfoot who watched her brother die but kept on going for Stormpaw and Featherpaw? Like...forget her own son in Canon? Like she would have told Grey and Fire to take Feather and Storm and she'd have gone back for her son. Her only surviving kit. re reedwhisker's age: unless/until i get a confirmation that he was apprenticed, etc., on page, or an erin statement about it, i'm maintaining my position. he doesn't show up in asir which you would 100% expect him to, and asir was published june 2020, which means reedwhisker as mistystar's surviving kit was known, which means that i really don't think he was born yet. like i really, really, really think that someone mistakenly went, "well, mistyfoot had a litter in tpb, so reedwhisker was a part of that litter," and we've all just been operating under that assumption.

(open to changing that opinion on evidence. i just need a source -- an erin statement, author chat, blogclan, a book, w/e, just something that will confirm when reedwhisker was actually born.)

because like -- ferncloud is nearly a year older than the bramble, storm, primrose, etc., so i don't know. there's no good timeline. reedwhisker appears as a fully grown warrior in twilight. so. heck if i know.

i mean -- to be clear, mistyfoot and featherpaw are in riverclan from the beginning of tigerclan to the end in the misty au. no escapes are made. so even if reedpaw was alive, they're there. unlike the other aus, the misty au is Defined by yours truly because i'm actually writing it. so none of that angst, just the -- pain of watching the fall.
