Followed through on a beanie baby/animals crossing piece and it was a lot of fun. I even recorded the process so I can post the speedpaint too and I'll upload the finished work here soon

Hewwo, hope you are having a lovely day! :3 For the Artist Ask meme questions, what is your favourite music to draw to, your go-to things to draw for comfort and do you little warmup sketches before drawing? Thank you and have a wonderful rest of the weekend!!
hi ama!! :3 thank you and i hope your day + weekend is lovely too!! <3 (now to the questions, sorry for the yappage lol)
🎼 Your favorite music to draw to right now? ooo how fun!! i got 2 other anons asking this too haha! i love music and i'm also a (hobbyist) musician myself so... usually the music while i draw is dependent on the mood/intention/character i have with the piece! (silly art = silly music etc.) often times i'll loop a song for DAYS just to keep up the "vibe" cause i don't have a go-to favorite when i draw! otherwise i just listen to whatever comes to mind in the moment! but yeah right now (while i draw DCA au stuff), i'm listening to Willow Smith's "empathogen" album & yaelokre's "Hayfields" because i adore that project and it's fun to sing along with!
🐻 Your go-to things to draw when you need comfort? hmm... my go-to comfort to draw is almost always whatever my current hyperfixation is! which is primarily DCA right now! outside of that (tho i'd probably have art block tbh), it's usually drawing myself in varying styles or (if i pull them out of the basement) my OCs. i'm a fanartist at heart, so drawing original stuff sometimes feels alien to me haha! i need a fictional muse to fuel the art lmao
☕ Do you do warmup sketches before drawing? (Bonus: do you have any to share?) actually- no i don't! i don't really "warmup" at all because it ALWAYS ends up being a sketch i post or end up as a finished piece! (i feel like this would make more sense if you watch me draw live ig/posted a speedpaint? maybe for art requests and commissions, but i can't recall tbh.) before digital art, i always drew with a PEN or CRAYON cause that's the most sensory friendly option for me. (it doesn't make a lot of scratchy noises like markers and pencils) so i unintentionally trained my muscle memory and myself to draw whatever comes to mind because every stroke was (literally) permanent + i tried to draw fast and loose cause i hate the feeling of paper. it gives me the strongest, most volatile, and intense visceral ICK. when i draw, i always draw with intention otherwise i'm probably not drawing at all! (this is also why i'll go on streaks of posting often then disappearing) idk my vision is usually clear, even for sketches and the muscle memory does its job! im too lazy to do actual "warmups" tbh. anyways, it's not a warmup sketch per say but i here's a random wips i have !! :3 (it's all LDR, but the last two images are from a separate wip!)

Eggtober 6th 2023
Tumblr media
"Splat" or "Fun with Colors": Raw Egg.
(Clip Studio Paint, Gouache Brush, Pencil brush for details and highlights. 12 colors, I think? 1 Hour.) I actually really liked the rough version I made, so you're gonna get that one at the end as well, for anyone who also likes the rough one better than the smooth one.
But first... I finally discovered a feature of CSP, so now I am unstoppable and I will NEVER AGAIN have to ask myself "How the fuck did I do that?"
Because now I have EVIDENCE. Now curious friends, followers, and my forgetful ass, can watch the full process of how I made a thing. Including what references I used so it's clear how much is iterative and how much I am drawing directly from the visual reference. Today I had to do a lot from imagination because I couldn't find an exaggerated splashy egg, but sometimes I really am just making a study and trying to do a one-to-one recreation of a reference. So now y'all get to know all my filthy little secrets. I was intending to grab footage starting with Eggtober 1, 2023 but OBS needs a version of an NVIDIA driver that will absolutely wreck my computer with BSODs because I own a junker apparently. But it turns out CSP (or at least V2, IDK if it was in V1) has a way to capture a speedpaint natively when you create the file.
Now I am unstoppable, powerful. No more taking a break from art when life gets busy and coming back to pieces I drew 10 years ago and wondering "How the hell did I manage that?" I can just check. It's over for all of you. Once I practice anatomy again and start being able to draw shapes and volumes perfectly from imagination, I will become all-powerful. I will ascend. Hell, maybe someone might even pay me if I learn to draw anything that isn't an egg or a meme. XD Radical self-confidence, baby. I can art now, and I have evidence. My horizons are infinite!
And now, hopefully, any baby artists that are just starting out can get an idea of how I do it from this and future pieces so I can pull you all up with me in a bid of apotheosis. For the EGGsthetic! (Aesthetic.)
I wonder which version of this egg @lady-quen's breadbugs will snap up?
And I wonder which one @quezify will like best? My money's on the sketchy one.
Tumblr media
I can't tell which I like better honestly. The smooth one us much more "My aesthetic" because it matches how I render eggs but... The rough pencil-y gouache lines you get with light pressure really remind me of how the classic modern quezify eggs look, and I of course only started doing eggs because of the first Eggtober so, like. On the one hand, smooth and painterly look that goes with all but one of my previous eggs (Eggtober 1, 2023 was a study from memory of quezify's style, after all). But on the other hand... dramatic color changes! Textrure, shine! Colors that aren't in the actual references! EXPRESSIVENESS. Two different moods on the same egg art and I really dig both of them honestly.

One of the things I absolutely adore about Viv's artstyle is the fuck it we ball mentality. Like, say what you want, it is so fun to see an artist who has fun with their OC's designs like she does.
Does this design need more eyes? No, but it would be freaking cool if it did. Crazy colors? Heck yeah throw whatever. Eyelashes that you could fly away with if you flutter them too hard? GIVE IT.
Watching Viv's speedpaints was a large part of my art journey, and I know my love for bowties, huge eyelashes, and hair that I don't quite understand how it works comes from her. I make fun of some parts of the characters a lot (Charlie's nose, and Al's ears wtf do I do with you.) but I really respect the design choices made, because it is not only 12 year old me's dream, but such a huge comfort to me now.
Idk it was so nice to have Viv be such a big part of my artstyle journey, and more artists should just have fun with their characters.
If you think something looks cool, add it. If you like red, draw with red to your heart's content. Just have fun.

Hello! I watched your speedpaints on repeat when I was in middle school (like 6 years ago) and sometimes still go back and watch them for the sake of nostalgia and good music. I just wanted to let you know you’ve touched my life and left a print, thank you 🤍
Thank you. So so much. For sending me this??? The me who made all those youtube videos. Doesn’t exist anymore. Life got harder. In so many new and horrible ways. And that like. Spark to create kinda died. And also I had more important shit to worry about all of a sudden. But. Knowing that it left on impact on someone enough to send me a message. Years after I’ve stopped making them tho. Idk.. that means something.. I appreciate you didn’t forget about me! (/my videos lol. I kno u don’t kno me. My vids and art feel a bit like. An extension of me tho? In a way. But I kno that it’s not a 1:1 thing. My art an videos express thoughts ideas and feelings of mine. But they are not. Me. Just lil slivers of me.. Tiny lil portions from specific moments in time.)
Sometimes it feels like those videos were just a flash in the pan. A brief moment of attention and fame I didn’t grab onto hard enough… and now the moments long gone. but. I didn’t rlly want to grab onto it, I just wanted to make fun videos. And show off my music taste lol. And express. The music videos my brain would create in my head into the real world. And then I got too busy w real life kicking my ass. (Ps. life has now stopped kicking my ass!! It’s gotten better. Just. Not the same as it was before) Maybe I’ll get back into it one day. If I have any new ideas. Once I get stable and know what I’m doing. And get like an iPad or something so I don’t have to wrangle w my laptop lol. But yeah!!! Srry.. I’m rambling a lot.. this message just made me emotional ok! I’m being openly vulnerable in turn hopefully that’s not too weird lol. I’m happy my videos had an impact on your life!! That means. A fucking ton. Like. Words cannot properly express the weird happy feeling that gives me in my heart. Thank you so much!! For real!!! Srry for getting all in depth about my life again this message just!!! Struck an introspective chord w me!!!

The other ask about college reminded me, I just brought a physical copy of superbright to my college professor, I took digital painting with him and now he's letting me sit in on his life drawing class. He did a quick flip through and he liked it! He also immediately said "yeah if you like this art get into the history, who did they learn from?" I've only been following you for 2ish years? And it's just been what's landed on my dash. But I looove your pieces, the coloring on the backgrounds versus how Leo and Takumi are drawn, and then the pieces like the mainly pink diner.
So yeah mainly wanted to say you're super cool! Things that you learned from would be neat to see but no pressure.
hi i was honestly very shocked to read that you would show this to your professor who is probably a really great artist but im glad he liked it? ???
i answered the rest of this under the cut
as far as my art history goes, i have no academic background in art so i'm just making stuff up. i think like a lot of kids I got my roots in wanting to draw like shoujo manga, particularly the big eyed round faces of the early 2000s. I would just try to copy the eyes or something. To this day I honestly don't really look at tutorials or watch speedpaints i kind of just look at finished art and try to emulate the things I like about them. It's very simplistic I think and perhaps means I don't make art that's as clean or efficient as people who actually go out and try to learn how pro artists actually draw.
i went on pixiv a lot as a teen and followed like 1000+ artists and looked at a lot of art all the time. I was really enamored by people who could draw characters and backgrounds, like fuzichoco. (this is a super weird fun fact but one of my favorite artists in like 2011-2012 who specialized in like drawing beautiful girls with beautiful backgrounds ended up getting into leokumi under a different name/account and i was their mutual! and i didnt realize this until rather recently. im too shy to share the name tho. my teen self is throttling me btw). I Really wanted to learn how to draw backgrounds so i had to go through the struggle of teaching myself perspective and later on downloading 3d software so i could see boxes on the same plane at angles lol.
When I see art I like I try to capture the essence of what it is I liked about it in a piece (maybe one time its desaturated colors, and the next its dramatically long legs, or adding blur to the foreground), and i decide if it worked out and I want to keep doing it. Some stuff i definitely continue to use is i draw upper eyelashes the way i do because of Sata (touken ranbu, feh artist) and i started drawing leo with weird non-blond hair colors because of Araki (the jjba mangaka, who often colors his characters in alternate palettes than their "canon"). Even though i think there are stuff im a bit rigid about, like i always kinda stay in the realm of anime style, I'm still trying to keep trying out stuff I see in other artists, not just even anime artists but everyone's favorite Leyendecker or Mucha, or I'll take photos of random stuff to file away as an idea. Like I have a photo of leaves my coworker collected that have a nice green to pink gradient that I took for inspiration.
As far as the diner picture goes I think to pull off that piece I needed to practice making art with less colors and also less contrast. Similar shades of pink take up most of the picture with teals being a secondary color and avoiding adding other colors in large amounts. I think the linework is doing a lot of work in that piece. I had to google a photo of a person sitting at a diner table for the perspective.
idk if this answers anything but it was fun to think about?

Yknow there’s a joke about how writers trying to stream like artists would be hilariously sad—watch me stare at this blank document and type and delete the word “the” seventeen times before closing it—but you know what COULD be kinda fun, if you had the discipline for it, is like, the equivalent of a speedpaint. Like if you filmed your screen every time you worked on something—including research and junk—and then edited the footage together sped up.
I’m not really volunteering to do this—I don’t think I’m organized enough—but. Idk it seems like it could be a neat thing.

SPEEDPAINT https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OsKIjtcyLU4&ab_channel=LizzieLass
Rarity - Asexual 🖤🤍💜 I plan on doing a big final drawing with all the mane6 with their pride accessories after I finish their redesigns,, but I'm slow af. I started this project last year ... I still have Flutters and Rainbow to go!
Challenging, but I really liked drawing this! Rarity's mane n tail are both annoying and fun to do and took way to long
Wasn't sure what to do with her redesign cause I love her simple og palette, but I rlly like the colors I settled with. If I ever drew ponies as cats, I would go for a lilac snowshoe breed,, idk why that reminds me of her,,
I love rar so much my dude,, ʕ´• ᴥ•̥`ʔ Her episodes were always some of my faves. Seeing her progression in her career and personality felt really natural and satisfying by the end. And I love that by the end, she let's her mane GO GREY! Can't tell me that S1 Rarity would EVER consider someday showing her age or anything perceived as imperfection. Rarity aged with grace my dude

idk if you have before but if you haven't, would you ever consider doing art streams or posting speedpaints? even just for doodles or unrendered stuff or whatever. your style is very distinct and fun and it'd be very interesting to watch imo
I do have a few speedpaints up on my YouTube channel, though they're all pretty old and not at all indicative of how I currently work. I do keep wanting to do them, but I'd have to clear up some space on my laptop to download the programs necessary for it

so ANYWAYS heres some ideas for youtube stuff i want to make
drawing process videos!! specifically chill an chatty sketchbook stuff
drawing/speedpaints while i voice over and talk about whats going on with the art
MUSIC REVIEWS I LOVE MUSIC AND I WANT TO TALK ABOUT MY SHITTY MUSIC TASTE
once i get more confident i want to make video essays on mark and jacks egos, the stories behind them, the men behind making them, and also silly stuff just talking about them. ive been in this community way too goddamn long and i have too much to say
lots of crafts!! i like working on little projects so why not film them (and perhaps inspire others to do fun lil crafts 🤔 )
crochet content???
i want to read more books, especially fucked up stuff so book reviews would be fun :) i know personally i love watching book reviews hehe
this is another “when i get more confident” thing but FANFICTION REVIEWS and by that i mean i want to go back and find homestuck fics i read back in like 2015 and make fun of them
reaction videos if anyone is interested??? like i want to watch things like Morel Orel and the Walten Files and give my lame ass commentary
might be too personal for yall but maybe doing depression/anxiety focused stuff?? like “how i manage my shop while sad” or “how i cope with constant anxious feelings” to possibly help others in a similar position?? idk its very validating to me to see other mentally ill people share their experiences so if i can help others that would be pretty dope
tierlists of random stuff. cause i like talking about random stuff. examples would be “ranking childhood movies by how good they actually are” or “most unhinged homestuck characters”

Asked this on insta but I’ll ask here too why not
Would you guys be interested in speedpaints? Cause they look really fun to do but my drawing process is a bit all over the place and idk how fun it is to watch me draw (plus I draw kinda slow)

【KagePro】 KuroEne Speedpaints 🖤💙
youtube
youtube
I recorded me doing the rough colour drafts on my KuroEne doodle! 🥰
These aren't refined, and just me roughly filling in the base colours on my sketches to get an idea of colours
Since Idk when I'll get to refine these drawings and clean up the sketch and lines
Tumblr's finnicky with posting videos ngl so I posted YT links this time. I put them as Unlisted. Feel free to check them out if you're interested in my drawing process.
I described my art process in the video description, but I can also put them here too
Kuroha Speedpaint 🖤💛🐍
Recorded me doing the rough base colours for this one 😌 I had a lot of fun choosing the colours for this one! 💗🫶
Original Time: 45 minutes (Sped up by 16x)
BGM: Outer Science Rearrange Cover (ft. Kagamine Len) 🎵
Kuroha and Ene Speedpaint 🖤💙🐍🐇
I did a bit of edits on Kuroha's colours, then filled in the base colours for Ene~
Working with cool colours is super fun 🙌

The more red + purple toned Kuroha has really nice visual contrast against Ene's cool colours (blues) in her design tbh
Continued from yesterday!
I put the video description rambles under the cut (describing my art process)
Kuroha Speedpaint
Decided to fill in the rough base colours for this! I love doing rough colour drafts~ Helps me get a good idea of colours.
I put Outer Science as the BGM. Fitting for the Outer Science Person~
I also love the tuning and adlibs and robotic voice effects on the Len fan-cover of Outer Science so much~ The tuning is superior to the Original so it's my favourite version of Outer Science and my favourite fan-cover.
Watching this fan-cover is what got me into KagePro. It was my first time watching the Outer Science MV.
The tuning and mixing in this fan-made rearrange cover is insanely good. It's stronger than the original. The chorus has so much oomph and power to it in this, and I love the added adlibs and robotic effects on certain lines.
I prefer the instrumentals (guitar riffs, drums, and bass) of the OG though. The fan-cover version's instrumentals sounds more like an arcade, which is also fun.
0:00
I start with colour picking from the colour edit I did as a guide for colours
The faster way to fill in the base colours would be to create a new layer and temporarily close all the lines, then select the outside of the lines, invert the selection, and then use the bucket tool. I'd do this for more refined drawings that are in the lineart stage
I manually fill in the colours when doing rough base colours though. Manually filling in the base colours is relaxing ngl
Since they're rough colour drafts, I'm not shading/blocking in shadows, I just wanna get an idea of how the colours look together
1:05 - 1:10
When I do Gradient Maps and Layer Mode effects, I either clip them to the Colours, or put them in a folder and set them to Through so they can show on the layers underneath it.
I realized I couldn't eye drop the exact colours on the colour edit ref with the Folder set to Through Layer Mode (60% opacity), so I duplicated it, then merged the layers
I also adjusted the settings of my Eyedrop tool later so that it can grab the colour from the image itself, rather than just the colour on the Layer it's on. Cuz if you're not on the exact Layer, then it won't grab any colour.
1:12
I was considering whether I wanted to airbrush the tips of the fingers with a dark gradient cuz I love the darkened gradient limbs design trope. Douman has it canonically, and my friend Raisu added it on Idate's design (which is why I always draw him with it).
Decided to go without it here tho cuz I feel like it takes away from the colours
1:42
Doing colour edits and adjustments with Posterization and Hue/Saturation effects can throw the contrast out of wack, so I adjust the colours myself on my own drawings.
I usually shift the hues of shadows and highlights (in comparison to the base colours) to keep the colours interesting. I try to use different hues for them so the colours can pop more. I was trying to come up with a good colour for the darker black inner clothes
2:17 - 2:25
After roughly colouring the black spirals around him, I use Posterization on CSP.
Window Capture on OBS only records the main window for CSP, but I went to Layer > New Correction Layer > Posterization which creates a Posterization layer. I adjust the colours with this, which increases the contrast and darkens the colours slightly.
I'll probably fix the colours of the dark sleeves manually later.
2:26
I draw my lines on vector layers so I can easily adjust and edit (move and scale down/up) my lines without losing quality.
I duplicate the lineart, so I can use a CSP Auto Action that colours the lines. I used to manually colour my lines, but this one's quick and you can get really pretty line colours with it, cuz it colours the lineart according to the colours underneath.
It doesn't show the windows that performs the Auto Action through the recording, but I downloaded an Auto Action available on the CSP Assets Store that's called "Better Line Color" that follows a series of steps (it can be mimicked manually on other programs) and adjusts the colour of the lines according to the colours underneath it.
I think when I refine the drawing more, I wouldn't have the dark spirals apart of the lineart, and would just paint it instead.
I was playing around with whether I wanted the coloured lineart to be on "Multiply" or "Colour Burn" Layer mode. Depending on the drawing, either has really nice effects.
On my other drawings, like the coloured IdaTatsu and Selena doodles I had, I preferred the coloured lines on Colour Burn Layer mode cuz it adds a subtle saturated glow to the lines. Here, it adds a slightly blue edge to the lineart.
I went with Multiply for now (just cuz this keeps the colours of the black spirals intact better, but I'll consider which one looks better after)
Ene Speedpaint
0:00 - 0:32
I clean up the colours on Kuroha a bit. I also add back the gray transition colour on the hair (between the highlights and base colour)
I brighten the eyes a bit and make it slightly more saturated
0:32
I start filling in the base colours for Ene, picking from a more vibrant colour palette (edit of Sidu's art)
0:45
I realized that her digital structures are shorter on the side closer to her mouth, so I adjusted the lines a bit
0:48
I start filling in the rest of the base colours. At the time, I wasn't whether I want to have Ene's eyes as ice blue or saturate them more…
1:44 I wanted to saturate the skin more so it'd have more contrast, but decided to keep that for later.
1:58 Added a muted gray transition colour on the hair
2:00 Started splotching colours on the sweater and skirt to get an idea of colours.
2:25 Upped the Brightness and Contrast on the skin. Played around with Posterization on the Colours.
Since Kuroha's lines were black, I decided to do the Better Line Color on Kuroha's lines again. This time I used the Bucket tool to colour the lines with a dark blue colour, clipped them, duplicated the lines and then did the Better Line Color Auto Action again.
I also did the same for Ene's lines. I set it on Multiply cuz I liked the soft look the coloured lines
2:42 - 2:51 Before I added the colours, I just had Kuroha's lines above Ene's lines folder, and then had a white layer in the middle.
I was still wondering how I'd show Ene's hand on his sleeve, but Kuroha's colours still being over hers… I was considering just putting the folder of his colours on top of hers, but HMM…
For now though, I just duplicated the lines and colours for a PNG version, then cut from that, for showing on my socials
End: Once I turned back on Kuroha's colours, I realized that I chose a really muted palette for him and a really vibrant one for Ene, so after I finished recording, I played around with the Gradient Maps and saturated the colours and eyes more.
I'll definitely coordinate their colour palettes more later. I'll do a muted version and saturated version.

Hi,
8, 9 and 10 for the artist ask?
HIII!! OH MAN OK
Tumblr media
8- UHH idk.. i like the way i do shading/lighting, and i like drawing bodies? drawing hands arms legs chests thats fun. faces are more tedious and difficult lol
9- currently its bugs and coloring. coloring is my weakest point in art. oh also designing clothes but thats kind of just something i doodle when i have nothing else i want to draw
10- i dont really know? its just been the thing i always do. when i was really small i loved dinosaurs, but i only really started drawing dragons and other animals like wolves. i think my biggest inspiration to make art was probably watching those dragon amvs that were really just like a slideshow of dragon art with an evanescence song playing over it. that and speedpaints. my dad used to hook up his laptop to the tv after we got a flatscreen and id watch dragon speedpaints on it all the time
