Spider spectre I’m interested. And love ourple

okay okay. so.

spectre spider is my spider sona, and so far what ive got is:

River (she/her) is a college student who is interested in cryptids and stuff, so when she suddenly discovers she has spider powers? what better thing to do than to base her Spider identity on a pre-existing cryptid?

so, in her world, The Spectre (????) is a known cryptid that has a ghostly figure. it doesnt speak, it simply shows up before tragedy strikes. it doesnt interact. it just stares. and then it disappears.

River decides to use this as the base for her own identity. Spectre-Spider (any pronouns) is a spider-person with a mostly pale purple suit, and a cape made of mist. the misty cape can be manipulated to look cool, but its just for aesthetics. the hood is plain cloth. but because of the cape and hood (the cape can glow btw dont. dont ask how idk.) Spectre-Spider looks just like the ghostly figure seen before tragedies.

Spectre-Spider shows up at crime scenes, uses as little force as necessary, doesnt speak unless required, and then leaves. he doesnt quip, he just silently does their job, and then leaves.

Spectre-Spider is seen as something of a cryptid himself too, considering it just.. acts like The Spectre, but with the added "actually doing something about it".

the fun thing is? The Spectre is an actual person. i havent figured out their specific details yet but theyre gonna be another person, and River just didnt fuckin know, and stole thier look. The Spectre is fine with it tho bc like. Spidey isnt doing anything bad, so its not a big deal.

small design details: those are knee braces. the eyes have faint pupils because i thought it would be really creepy if the eyes look pure black from afar and then Spectre-Spider gets in your face and theres some absolutely horrifying pupils staring into your soul.

matters of the heart

Idk how to describe this. Miscellaneous writing I guess? Mostly mentions stuff about my sona’s power in mhyk. And also, I just really wanted to write Tiletta roasting Murr for some reason.

Every day within the Bennett Bar is almost the same. From the clinking of glasses that resounds after customers propose a toast to each other to the whispers of wizards and witches as they talk about a variety of things; from mundane topics to secrets that should only be known to them and their trusted companions. They pay no mind to the bartender, for they know his lips are sealed. The bell rings as another customer enters. Shylock greets them and gets started on their order.

The two witches at the back of the bar disregard the other customers. Much like the others, they’re stuck in their own little world. Each were beautiful in their own right, radiating unique charm. One was a wild beauty that radiated confidence and boldness. The black dress she wore was fitting and attracted attention, showing off her beautiful figure. The other witch exuded elegance; movements graceful and refined, resembling the spider lilies that adorned her clothing.

“That man I met was disappointing.” Tiletta groans in disappointment before downing her glass in one gulp. Len smiles wryly as she eyes the red blush that was starting to adorn her friend’s cheeks; a sign that she was getting awfully drunk. What glass was she on now? Her ninth? Perhaps her tenth?

“Well, I suppose he’s not the one for you then. Really, Tiletta, there’s no need to rush. You’ll meet the one destined for you when it’s time.” The woman huffs, asking for another glass of her favorite drink. “You know who I’ll end up with, don’t you? With that power of yours.” Len laughs before taking another sip of her drink. “But of course. Though I won’t tell. That would take the fun out of it. I’ll give you a hint: it is someone you least expect.”

“Not a very helpful hint, but you’re right. The joy is in the journey as they say. What about you though? Not once have I seen you take an interest in a man, a woman, or anything.”

“…No. There is someone. Though I fear it will be a fruitless endeavor in the end.”

Tiletta perks up, interest and curiosity dancing in her beautiful eyes. “Oho? Do tell.”

“I’m in love with Murr.” All was silent for a moment before Tiletta bursts into laughter. Len could only sigh, playing with her glass and watching the contents swirl. Her friend had always been this way, and as a Western wizard, she’s learned not to take these things personally. Besides, Tiletta’s laugh was melodious; she enjoyed hearing it.

“Ahh…haha. I’m sorry. I really shouldn’t have laughed.” She rested her chin on the palm of her hand, smile still present on her lovely face. “You’re right. It’s just a fruitless endeavor. Murr’s quite the crack head. Everyone knows he’s in love with the moon. I don’t understand how you put up with his awful personality, much less fall for him when he’s like that.” Len hears a cough from the other side of the bar. Her amethyst eyes come into contact with wine red. Shylock gives her a closed eyed smile. It seems he found Tiletta’s blunt assessment quite funny. “For the looks, I’d give him a hundred out of ten. For personality? He’s at the level of ‘I want to throw him off a cliff in the far reaches of the Northern country.’ For your sake, you’re better off finding someone else.”

Len hums before requesting another glass. “That would be the obvious option, wouldn’t it? But matters of the heart are rarely that simple. Sometimes, I wish a I was born a human. Maybe then, these feelings of love would be easier to handle.” The Witch of Spiders looks out the window, eyes narrowing at the bright, full moon. She sees the threads of fate within this world and the people in it. They are all woven into a complicated web, yet they still lead to a destined outcome. One thread haunts her to this very day. In her mind, she hears something shatter. Lights scatter all over the world, leaving behind a shell; a mindless beast. If one wishes to enter a dangerous dance with the Great Calamity, then they must face the consequences. Len feels something ugly in the depths of her heart. How she wished that the moon would just disappear. Maybe then, Murr would cease to yearn for something he cannot obtain. Maybe then, he would acknowledge the people that love him to the point of madness.

‘Sweet Murr, you must be looking up at the sky right now, aren’t you? Are you happy? The Great Calamity is as beautiful as ever.’

When did you start drawing? Do you remember?

The know I did drawings when I was in 1st grade because my mom was a sentimental type who kept the little books I wrote with stick figures and such. But the first time I remember drawing and being aware of trying to achieve something specific was about a year later when I was 7 years old. I was OBSESSED with the Saban (anime) Grimm's Fairy Tales that would occasionally air on Nickelodeon and the look/style of it. I tried my best to imitate what I saw on screen, with the stylized eyes etc, but also, y'know, I was 7. Clearly, not a lot has changed. (Except I'm not 7.)

What’s your go-to canvas size?

1600x1200 300 dpi for no good reason other than I tend to like the room it gives me/how it makes the comic tones look for the effect I'm going for. I'm probably doing it wrong bc I'm just learning it as I go along.

Do you prefer drawing fandom stuff or your own characters?

I lack the gene that allows people to make up cool original characters. I basically made my Spider-Sona but even she is basically wearing clothing I actually own, with my hair, and like, a half-assed spider suit lol. So... yeah. I'm definitely more into exploring fandom and canon characters. I also enjoy getting to connect with other fans in that way, so it's a win for me.

Your favorite music to draw to right now?

While I tend to listen to music while I write (stuff without lyrics, or kind of mushmouthed so my brain isn't focusing on them, something where the tempo matches the story I'm writing) I think I tend to put TV on when I'm drawing. I like stuff that isn't visually demanding (so no shows where I really want to focus on the visual details, usually animation is out for this reason), and relatively light in the plot department. Sitcoms (same actors, same scenery 90% of the time) are good for this, since my eyes aren't focused on the screen most of the time. Lately I've been rewatching 30 Rock and revisiting Northern Exposure.

Clean? Graphic in the sense that I could easily turn it into things like keychains etc. Not bc I'm trying to make money off it, I just like to make stuff I think it would be fun to have. I need to work on developing a polish, I guess?

What’s the hardest thing for you to draw?

Backgrounds probably? I try to make an effort, especially in comics, to have at least one interesting background. But y'know, perspective and details and making sure I'm not contradicting previous drawings andddd yeah, it's just time consuming and finicky. TBH I need to get better about using the tools that are in my software but I'm still figuring that all out. Just use the line tool, Cat!

Ehh well. 

Seraphine is a very big thing to unpackage. Let me start off by saying that there are multiple layers to this. I am going to start with my most glaring issue. 

She does not fit thematically into Piltover, she looks like a Star Guardian in her base skin when Piltover and Zaun is way more steampunk oriented. Nothing really gives me that steampunk vibe and with all the great artwork around Legends of Runeterra for Piltover and Zaun I just don’t see her fitting.  I care more about canon Seraphine than KDA because honestly, I don’t give two shits about KDA. 

I think the whole deal with the Brackern crystals is horrifyingly fitting, although Jayce was the first one to figure it out and her in Bio it says only she knows about the Brackern. And the fact that she askes skarner if she's supposed to sing to him what the Brackern crystals are saying is fucking mental. Their his people used for energy. It makes me think of the humans fate in the Matrix, where they are plugged up and used as power source. Imagine a machine asking you if you want to know what your family members howled and screamed as they were drained of energy. It’s pretty fucking dark and it makes her look only more psychotic? Like either, she is star-eyed stupid or downright malicious if she uses the exploitation and suffering of an ancient species for her personal inspiration. And when she says that “all she can do is sing their elegy” it makes me laugh because you could literally raise awareness and try to stand against the exploitation and enslavement of another race. But all she does is write songs not even about them most of the time. 

I love this quote by TBSkyen over on his Twitter:

“seraphine's floating peace and harmony song stage is canonically powered by the souls of the innocent, which would be a brutally biting portrayal of neoliberal paternalism if it had been intended to be one.”

I think Riot tried to give us an insight into how things work in Piltover and how good and cheerful Seraphine is of a character. But it's the Azir debacle all over again where they said he treated slaves well and even had affairs with slaves or something. They wanted to show that Azir was at heart a good person who wanted to abolish slavery, but on paper, slaves are “a person who is the legal property of another and is forced to obey them.” And thus they HAVE to do what Azir did. Riot did not mean it that way I am certain and the same goes for Seraphine but it just casts this huge shadow on her that makes her canon character really fucking questionable as she rises to fame through the exploitation of a people. 

Gameplay-wise I will have to see. She does look like an improved Sona here and there, but other places she does have different gameplay mechanics as well. I have played very little Sona so I will not allow myself any sort of judgment on the gameplay, the Sona mains are free to tear the Zoe Lux lovechild a new one. 

I will briefly talk about her ultimate skin. I get what they wanted to do but it horribly flopped. A skin progression through missions sounds fun, but then they should have used a base skin that evolves over a few games and once you completed the journey you can select different stages during each game. Not at the start, that's absolutely stupid. By that logic I had that Pantheon Ultimate skin all along and just did not know it! It was the progression from Pantheon to Perseus Pantheon to Myrmidon Pantheon! But yeah big fucking flop IMO and giving a newly released hero an Ultimate skin is as much cash grab as you can get. They used her Twitter persona to write and hype up her release before selling as much as possible on the KDA hype train. 

It really just feels like they conceptualized her for KDA more than Runeterra. Her taunts in the KDA skins make my skin crawl. She burns them like a cold bitch and then is supposed to be this sweetheart? Like make her say a taunt and then apologize or stumble on her words or something, to show that she's actually NOT a cold bitch but just puts on a persona. Idk for all this hype, she is really disappointing in so many ways.

Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would last year, less, or about what you’d expected?  Honestly I thought my writing was on the decline, I hadn’t had any inspiration for a long while, I didn’t really want to work on any of the WIPs I had, and I was facing a lot of stress at school during the beginning of the year, causing some seriously bad mental health. BUT! Thanks to my good friends in the Jekyll and Hyde Discord, I started getting inspiration and ideas to write about again! Also the decision to finally create an AO3 account to move over to really helped. So I actually ended up writing more than I expected to, considering that at the beginning of the year I was thinking that I’d have to give up writing altogether. 

What’s your own favorite story of the year?  Oof that’s a tough one, but I’m going to have to say Young and Rich and Wild since it was the discussion about this AU in the J&H Discord that actually kick-started my brain into generating ideas and writing again since I found it such a cool idea and I had a lot of fun writing and thinking this one out. Also! Normally I only write one-shots, and I don’t really do multi-chapter fics, so I’m proud that I felt like I could write a multi-chapter fic. Plus, in general, I can see a good improvement to my writing and there are some sections in there that I’m super proud of, and it’s still a WIP! So we have plenty more chapters to go!

Did you take any writing risks last year? Well two of the things I wrote this year I think had ‘writing risks’. Young and Rich and Wild is a multi-chapter fic where I actually took the time to plan it out, which is wildly out of my comfort zone and something that I think I’ve only ever done twice before. The Wolf Admission allowed me to explore some forgotten OCs in a fandom that has kinda died, plus I haven’t actually written much horror before and it was fun to experiment with a field of writing that I like a lot but haven’t done much of. 

Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the new year? Well, I hope to finish Young and Rich and Wild this year because I’m really eager to get that done and finished. I also have quite a few ideas that have yet to be written about that I want to write about, plus I have some one-shot WIPs that have been in the works for far too long that I really wanna get done. I also have some non-fanfiction stuff that I wanna put out somewhere.

Best story of the year? Honestly? The Wolf Admission because fuck you I’m really proud of that one and it was so fun to write. Plus I started on it in like 2014, left it, and then came back to it late on into 2018 when I suddenly remembered that Drew was an OC that I had. I improved what was there so much, plus I honestly believe I wrote some of my best work in that fic. Shame it has like hardly any hits ;-; 

Most popular story of the year? Wow, easy. Young and Rich and Wild has 151 hits and 22 kudos, plus when I was writing small snippets off the top of my head and putting them in the J&H Discord, a good number of people there were like “dude you should absolutely write this”, so its had a lot of backing. 

Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion:  *screams from the rooftops* THE WOLF ADMISSION but also a fic from 2017 called The Young Monsters because I really like that one and it doesn’t have as much love as it should. 

Most fun story to write: Yo, all of the fics that I wrote in 2018 were super fun but I think if I had to pick one it would be The Creation of Another, my second fic about my TGS Lodgersona. It involves Hyde getting annoyed at miniature dinosaurs!

Most unintentionally telling story: Weeeeellll I wouldn’t say it’s unintentional but my two Lodgersona fics, Elizabeth Wolfe joins the Society and The Creation of Another are basically just if I was able to live out my dream of having pet dinosaurs in a Victorian fantasy setting...

Biggest disappointment: I think currently it’s a WIP that I’m completely stuck on. I’ve been working on it for a while and I really want it to be good but currently I haven’t been able to figure out where it’s gonna go. It’s a one-shot about TGS Hyde jumping through a portal and ending up in 1930s London, and you all can probably guess what happens next... what is set in 1930s London and could be related to J&H? Remember that it’s ME writing this, the designated Official Leader and War Veteran of this fandom.... That’s right kids my all time favourite TV show ITV’s Jekyll and Hyde. Basically, TGS Hyde and ITV Hyde (aka My Son) meet each other and fight or something? Idk.... do you see my problem? Idk what to do with this situation. 

Biggest surprise: Y’know I wasn’t expecting my two Lodgersona fics to do as well as they did because normally everyone seems to hate OC and sona fics but what d’ya know a decent amount of people liked them!!

2. least favorite drawing from this year? I think I've made some of the best drawings I've ever done just this year and have noticed an immense improvement even just over last year but that doesn't mean I haven't had a few blunders.

From a distance, it looks alright (since it was my prof pic, it was fine) but man is that rough up close. I wanted it to look metallic but it just...isn't.

5. favorite little detail in a drawing you did? I added an Easter egg from every world that appears in the first KH. I might not be proud of the drawing but I'm proud of that.

8. underrated drawing you did? It's actually this most recent one that sticks out in my mind. I think it's mainly because of the tumblr messing up the tags thing though (that and I posted it on an odd date but I couldn't wait!)

9. any new art mediums you've tried (or overall styles if you haven't tried new mediums)? Yes actually, I hate doing black and white for inktober but I started doing a little bit of a greyscale and it turned out decent. (Here's an ex.!) that stemmed from seeing how good chachacharlieco's art turned out even when in that form.

10. favorite art medium? Don't have one, I explore a lot.

11. artist(s) that influenced/inspired your art style? Already mentioned Charlie, but I think a lot of my stuff varies because I never stick to one thing

17. favorite oc/sona drawing? my favorite new OC this year is probably my lightbulb man. I want to make a figure of him so much!

18. any art events you've participated in? Not recently, though I was apart of Heroes of Dragonstone a few years ago

19. any collabs you've done/would want to do? I'm down for any collabs. This is the most recent one. Which isn't great but I made in on a time limit so...

20. what do you think you've improved on the most over the past year? This bleeds into last year but I've been getting more ambitious with posing. I'd do a lot of putting hands behind backs and cropping out legs but I made an a sort of animatic video that worked well as training. I did a lot of tracing for it in order to get everything down.

21. what do you want to work on the most next? I kind of take it as I go. I suppose backgrounds are a current weakspot.

22. what are you best at drawing/doing (ex: you're good at lineart, or drawings hands, etc.)? I think I do good with pencil drawing but then gets too easy to muck it up when I try to get detailed. I do A LOT of monkey sketches to warm up, (I don't normally show them though) it's a lot of fun though just to see how varied I can make their designs.

24. what do you like most about your art style? It's Cartoony. I excel in animals but when I want it to be anime inspired, it's difficult to overcome.

25. best advice you've received this year or something new you learned about art. When I learn something, I usually do it over and over again in all my drawings so I saw this video of someone showing how you use the watercolor tool and paint and then color over then blend then do it all over again, can't find the video again for some reason though.

I feel like this ship would probably best be summed up by a badlands Halsey song. It wouldn’t be a very serious relationship, because I feel they’re both not the kind of people who would hate being tied down. I feel like this ship would just be all about fun and pushing their limits, late nights in the archives in piltovian libraries researching ancient magician artifacts, then fighting over if they should steal it for themselves or leave it undisturbed, going on adventures to far off lands and hidden caves and barley scraping by ,and after the adrenaline rush, coming home to a warm bath and cuddling. For Janna, its about pushing each other’s limits because they have the freedom to do so (and to keep an eye and make sure ez doesn’t get himself killed) Ez probably wouldn’t like her at first, but she’s probably one of the only people who can keep up with him in the field (magic helps a lot with that. I mean, you could either take 20 minutes to climb up a cliff or be flown up there in a minute which one would you choose) and is interested in exploring like he is. this relationship is probably the healthiest on this list.

Another relationship that’s probably actually good for her. I feel like their personalities would work, they’re both peace loving and mellow, have lived a lot of their young life in the public eye, and want to shape their home to their vision. Ashe is mature enough to know when janna needs her personal space and could comfort each other when things get tough and i feel like maybe ashe would inspire something in janna that gives her courage to go back to zaun. It’s proably a one sided crush and mutual admiration though, I cannot see this working as Ashe is already married (and I think? it’s more than just political) and too busy fighting a war to think about romance with some random foreigner and it’s toO DAMN COLD UP IN THE NORTH. tbh i just like this for the aesthetic but i feel like their personalities could easily make a good ship in any AU. cough cough hint hint

I’ve seen it portrayed as a one sided crush from janna’s side and I feel like that’s how it would be. Sona’s way out of her league because she’s just SO pure and graceful and everything beautiful and a reminder of the goodness and beauty of humanity, not to mention just how touching sona’s music is (janna’s cried a lot at every concert she’s been to). They were introduced through Lux once, and Janna couldn’t believe sona was real. She knows the importance of putting on an image for the public to see but Sona’s every bit as kind and selfless off stage as she is on stage, and she can’t help but fall in love with that more and more every time they meet. But she knows that even if sona were interested in women it would probably never happen because sona has an entire estate to manage and probably needs to marry for an heir and this entire thing for janna is just the pain of just knowing that the love she has will never be returned but still wanting to be by her side

God I just listened to say something recently and i got feels for this ship. a previous??? girlfriend??? I mean they never officially broke up, Janna just kinda left without ending things and then jay disappeared. They meet when Janna was relatively well off and already studying magic, and so Janna basically takes care of jinx after jinx tries to steal a necklace from janna for money. The two grow closer, and supported each other with jinx’s expertise in building the most amazing devices out of scrap metal and janna’s quick wits and flashy magic displays getting them through the through the toughest of times in the underbelly of piltover. jinx was always a wild card, but she was always laughing and her unique way of looking at things and bold attitude complimented janna’s more reserved personality and was something that always brightened up Janna’s day. However, as jinx began to become more clingy and pull crazier and more dangerous stunts, janna began to fear her and focused on learning magic and raising her own status, leaving jinx behind, possibly at the latter’s worst moments in life. janna cannot forget the guilt of abandoning jinx and its made worse because shes just watching as the person she cared so much about tearing herself apart and she can’t do anything to help because jinx can’t even remember herself anymore, let alone the bond the two had as children. On one hand, she doesn’t want Jinx to be caught and punished by a system that failed her in the past but at the same time she can’t stomach the fact that if jinx is rampage is left unchecked she would cause more of the destruction and chaos the two promised to try to fix as children and she generally tries to forget that jinx exists until jinx’s next rampage forces her to confront reality.

I think something I just like for the aesthetic again. Not really sure how they would meet or start to trust one another, but the most likely scenario (probably not even very likely here) would be that kat seeks her out for magic help or something, probably something to do with marcus’s disappearance (is this canon still) , and janna would agree to help because she sympathizes with kat’s situation, and it would go from there. Not really sure how janna gets past the fact that kat’s a paid killer, but kat’s a sexy readhead I feel like they can definitely gain a mutual respect for each other for being extremely good at what they do and admire each other’s ability to persevere through the toughest of times. I think it’s interesting to pair janna, someone who defected from her home to someone like kat who’s so loyal to her country. I feel like janna probably sees a little bit of lux in kat, a woman who loves her family but still feels trapped by her duty to her house. I’m sure katarina is tired of playing politics, and it would be good to have someone kind like janna by her side babying her and comforting her. I think one problem might be that both of them are a little petty and neither of them are really good at sharing their emotions and this could end the relationship in a lot of tears and shouting and all that fun stuff.

same problem as above, with him being a killer and all and figuring out how the two of them interact long enough to trust each other since I think they’re both relatively secret people. I've seen this played out as a one sided crush from janna and talon just not caring which I can sorta see but also don’t  really see a reason for her to crush on him. But maybe this could work??He doesn’t pry into her past and she doesn’t pry into his and they know to give each other room until the other is ready. She knows not everyone is lucky enough to make it out as unscathed as she did so she sort of turns a blind eye to his occupation even though she feels something is off. And being with him is like a breath of fresh air to her because he doesn’t really care about national pride and he’s just kind of dorky and he doesn’t really care for social convention and it’s a break from her normal, carefully staged life as a celebrity. I feel like someone no nonsense and blunt like talon would be the one to call her out on her hypocrisy and make her reevaluate her life choices even though she’d probably hate him for it at the time. And something like talon admiring how kindhearted janna remained despite the fact that she grew up on the streets like he did and is a bit of a “hope in humanity restored” moment. I”m not sure why I like this so much.

I’ve seen this pop up in passing but I’ve never really seen much content for this. I didn’t particularly like it at first because I thought this was just one of those “the pure girl comforts the brooding boy” thing but I think there’s a reason for janna to be invested in this relationship after thinking about it more and i’m kinda growing to like this. There’s a lot of “only ifs” and a lot of OOC and strange coincidences in this scenario and I’m really sure how long it would take for zed to start to trust her/open up to janna or if there would be any reason for him to. ANYWAYS. skipping all that, it would probably be a situation she sees someone similar to her self and hopes that maybe by somehow helping “fix” him, she’d find a way to fix herself. Like?? she knows how he was forced to mature too quickly after hunting jhin and understands how seeing that much death can change a person and she can kind of agree with why he’s so disillusioned Ionia’s customs. They both want the best for their home country even at the cost of doing some morally questionable things/having those they once called family hate them, ( i need more interactions for janna like this in my life). But obviously there’s also the part where she can’t stomach how easily he kills and just how cruel he can be and the fact that being with him makes her involved with ionian politics and she doesn’t want to be caught in the middle. for zed it might be like?? I feel like she would kinda become like a “moral compass”, or at least be there to stop him when he’s going to far. Zed would hate her at first and probably think her ideals are too naive but probably would eventually fall for how kind and clever and I feel like janna could reach his disciples in a way he cant and boost morale. Although I feel like this could also be his downfall, because after he starts opening up to her and trusting her and listening to her, some of his order see this as weakness and turn on him or cause in fighting. And of course syndra would probably come into play too if shes allied with him as she would see janna as getting in the way. This relationship probably would not end well at all.
