Thoughts on the finale of White Lotus?

Oh boy. I've got conflicting, mixed thoughts but primarily: Mike White, we get the themes and what-not, but let straight men face consequences.

Spoilers below.

RIP the queen, glad she went out like that and not at anyone's hand tho.

I'm a little underwhelmed by the multiple deaths. I think we were all excited for these deaths to be a bit more connected (or at least to be more People We Cared About), like Armand's was.

So Harper's story this ep was: be accosted by gross, predatory man while she was drunk and also drunk on wanting revenge bc her husband gaslit her to win her man back? That sucks. Glad E & H can get back together or whatever but idk. Ethan still sucks imo.

Needed more Daphne.

I feel like we could have gotten more out of the plots than we were given, honestly. Like yes I was tense the entire episode, but I feel like the danger escalated so much in so little time with The Gays, Portia, and Tanya.

As always, I love a scammer, good for Lucia.

I wanted/expected more drama outside of the Tanya + Portia plots. When Giuseppe came back I was like "omg what if he kills Mia because of this" but he just went away. Why bring him back? (I know why but it's boring. Character growth blah blah.)

Honestly I can't say enough how much more of Daphne I wanted.

I wanted Albie to snap. Not "I betrayed my mother by taking a bribe from my dad to say he's changed when he damn well hasn't" snap, that's expected and weak and yeah he doesn't grow as a character that's part of the point, but I wanted a full on Violent Break. (Maybe kill Lucia! I don't know. Do something.)

Cool that Portia and Albie reconnected but again... straight men should face consequences.

Portia deserves better than Albie anyway. Yeah she's insufferable but she's now got all this trauma to unpack at home and Albie will only make her life worse.

I know this ep was longer than a typical episode but if we had two episodes instead of this long one I think we could have gotten more Daphne time.

Jennifer Coolidge & Meghann Fahy, Emmys when?

I know the vase breaking was symbolic of breaking the curse or whatever but again.... straight men probably should have had consequences.

Daphne and Harper should have had time together without their husbands before the end of the episode, aside from me just wanting more Daphne time.

Overall I think there were weak parts in storytelling that didn't necessarily serve it overall (Cameron kissing Harper, Daphne and Ethan's trip to Islo whatever, the confrontation between Tanya & Quentin about "is this Greg?").

Dominic sucks and I hope his wife still hates him and I don't know if he did anything beyond cheat on her but they made it seem like, through her yelling in the first ep, he was the scum of the earth.

The Bernie-Madoff-level-bad stuff Daphne was talking about just got thrown away which???? What???? I wanted to know more about this.

The power Jack talked about with those guys was completely tell-don't-show imo, Quentin was obviously the mastermind but he didn't seem scary like he was implying, probably because he was taking advantage of a woman who the audience knows is easy to take advantage of.

- also the fact that everyone believed karen automatically when she blamed the girls for shit they didn't even do... like there was literally no evidence against what she blamed them for.

- It's hard to chose a winner for worse mom but Faran's mom definitely wins it i think

- Noa and Shawn to me have no chemistry

- Angela deserved so much better and I really wish their moms would have gotten some sort of an actual punishment for everything they had that poor girl endure.

- at first i believed the karen; kelly switch theory but idk that i do anymore.

- taby punching tyler square in the face after he was being sexist and an asshole was probably the best scene ever.

- i feel really bad for imogen.. like really thinking about it she probably has it the hardest out of all the girls but homegirl is still fighting through. love her.

- mouse and ash are my fav couple so far.

- ALSO in the intro why does mouse' missing person's poster have her dob as 1992????? hm. Theories?

I watched this a while back so this is all i remember wating to rant about lol -- thanks for coming.

Right, so, this is like a day later than usual but I did want to write up my Casualty thoughts eventually. So: the Dylan storyline’s resolution was very lacklustre and veered into sensationalism IMHO. The Faith stuff - well, I despised that. Jacob, however, saved the episode.

Jacob has become one of my favourite characters in the past few years. This was yet another great episode for him, and I’m relieved that he’ll be back. Jacob absolutely carried this episode. His storyline was brilliant. The whole thing with him and the man whose son had died was so well-written - one of my favourite patient storylines in quite a while, I think. I don’t know who the actor playing that patient was, but he was fantastic, and so was Charles Venn (as always).

Charles Venn is one of the best actors Casualty has, so I’m very glad he’s not leaving for good. Though if they go for the route of Jacob becoming a paramedic, I hope they retcon in that he’s trained as one before or something rather than having him somehow become one from his nurse training, lol. Or maybe they’ll have him do the thing where he’s still doing nursing, but he goes along with the paramedics? Some other characters have done that, haven’t they? I have no idea about any of this lol.

I’m very confused about the carehome story’s resolution and hardly understand or remember it. At least it gave us Dylan scenes. I loved the Dylan and Max scenes in this episode. The Dylan and Max dynamic is very interesting to me and I can’t wait for more of their backstory to come through.

The scene where Dylan declined the Clinical Lead position and told Max to go for it was wonderful. So perfectly Dylan. I adore him.

After a few episodes where he didn’t do anything Greg-like, Max is back to reminding me of Greg Douglas again. The thing about him wanting the abuser/rapist to die was literally part of a Greg storyline. (It was a very good Greg storyline.)

I don’t remember what happened to Roy. He survived, right? Idk.

Dylan being interested in Supriya without any hints before is a bit odd. I guess they’re trying to lead into a storyline about why Dylan’s relationships all go similarly? He’s pretty much only been interested in people who are already in relationships.

I don’t want this Faith storyline. I don’t think anyone wants this Faith storyline. I’m tired of the show pretending her abuse of Lev didn’t happen. Well, I don’t think they even care about pretending it didn’t happen, I think they think it’s fine because they think Lev “deserved it”. Sigh.

The show should have picked either “mental health after SA storyline” or “mental health storyline for Faith”. I don’t want Faith to have any storylines, I want her to leave. But if they wanted to give her a mental health storyline, she had more than enough that’s happened in her life to make that believeable! They don’t need to retcon a rape story into it.

And as for the former... so many characters on Casualty at the moment have implied or canon histories as SA survivors. Retconning it in for Faith makes no sense. They could’ve picked a character for this story who fits it. Yet it seems to be another “Faith is our golden girl and we must make the audience like her” thing. ://

I can’t think of much more to say. I’ll probably write up more thoughts on the Faith thing separately.

Some random initial thoughts about episodes 4 and 5 of PLL OS:

Minnie "Mouse"

- I immediately assumed she would be pulling a 'Hard Candy' with the dude, but apparently she's running some type of therapy scenario for people who have missing children?

- The general agreed upon theory on Mouse backstory is that she went missing for awhile and these new episodes keep going in that direction.

Tabby

- it feels like Tabby is starting to release her anger more and that's pretty enjoyable to see. I wanted her to full on beat the shit out of Greg and/or Tyler, but breaking Tyler's nose was good too.

- The Wes and Chip stuff. I don't know what the deal is for Wes other than him wanting to be involved with Tabby. Like what's his overall point in the show? Tabby already has trauma and tells Wes off, so what's his purpose for still being alive on the show? Idk. Chip, I really feel like he's the one who assaulted Tabby. He gives off the same vibe as Beaver from Veronica Mars.

-Tabby and her many movie references but the Chucky quote/mention while Imogen was having her emotional breakdown about her and mom and everything just took the cake. LOL! Tabby got to chill way out with the references.

Marjorie/Noa's Mom

- I hope actually does dispose of her. Not just for being a jumpy, blame passing bitch in the past but for being one in the present as well. The fuck is wrong with her? She jumped with the quickness to say the pills the Sheriff found weren't hers. Marjorie is so quick to allow Noa to take additional blame if it means she doesn't get caught. I can't even be mad that A made Noa snitch. Marjorie deserved it.

Imogen

- I like that she's still investigating because some of the other girls kinda forgot or just wanted to put A behind them because they went two weeks with no new messages from him. Completely nuts for them to consider it as an option to forget about it. Also for Imogen this is the only way she can process her mom's death and her own unsure future.

-I know she has a lot going on but I'm surprised she didn't question why one of her moms former school mates denied having any knowledge of Angela or the og 5, but snitched to Sidney about the investigation later. Like that should have been a major red flag for her. But at least she found one source willing to help.

- so Imogen most likely did get assaulted and became pregnant because of it. Apparently it happened the same night as Tabby's assault. That's fucking rough

- I don't think the girls thought out the whole "Imogen can take over th house payments!" plan. I know they didn't think it out. No way that one Halloween party in their small ass town will allow Imogen to make monthly mortgage payments.

A

- okay, so it's very telling that A doesn't break locks to get into the house but instead uses the keys. Very telling. Telling what? No clue.

-So going back to one of my previous posts, it does appear A is a renegade killer based on his last victim. He's not sticking to a planned target or group of targets. But his killings aren't random either.

Faran

- I'm nervous about her plot because they got her looking crazy for this Karen = Kelly stuff. But I do like how the writers predicted that is the direction the fanbase would go with the twins. It's a total red herring.

-How many times is she going to be knocked out of this damn ballet? She lost the Odille part twice already! Girl, just go to Pittsburgh with your mom and get into a good dance school.

- More Tabby/Faran scenes are needed. I very much enjoyed their interactions. Faran's taunt to Kyle and Greg after Tabby punched Kyle was hilarious. I love her so much.

Kelly

- The Kelly stuff is all 'Single, White Female' about Karen. She wants to take her place and A's involvement gave her the opportunity.

- This finally proves, for me, that Kelly and A aren't working together. Kelly doesn't seem responsible for Karen's death. It's clear that she is willing to take Karen's place as the main twin now.

Yeah that's another thing why I feel like the whole with her could have convinced them feels strange to me. I even thought about that if she acted mature they would listen to her but I even feel like that is kind of disrespectful too. I know there's that whole thing with pink being immature and bratty but I still don't know if I can agree with the idea that the diamonds were in the right for doing all of that all because she was annoying.

But then again some people do seem to think she could have done something Because of how her actions led to pretty much others being hurt especially her son and Future kinda give off that impression but I don't know if this is an interpretation and opinionated thing on what Rose should have actually done or if the alternatives like her convincing the diamonds are pretty pointless with the context that they didn't really respect her at all and all they saw her as a jester.

yeah idk i mean rose couldve done things a LOT better and i know gems dont have "children" technically but the thing abt pink and the diamonds is that she WAS a kid. she was "acting like a child" as white diamond put it bc she was one but that doesnt excuse the way the diamonds treated her. the message of that whole arc is basically that kids deserve to be listened to and respected but the diamonds never did that w pink. we dont know if she wouldve been able to convince them in the future but i dont think it would've happened bc rose basically had like no positive influences in her life at that point, besides pearl who was well her servant so that wouldntve been much help i think specially bc of pearl starting to fall for her when she took on the rose quartz mantle. it is through her friends and greg that she started to become a much better person than she was before and maybe at that point she would've been able to convince the diamonds but i doubt that she could manage to do that in the conditions whe was in when she was still pink diamond

My #1 post of 2022

Ok, so I absolutely love Security Breach, but I wanted to make a lost of things I feel would have made the game more enjoyable for me. It's just personal preference, it's ok if you guys don't agree. So here we go:

♡ more Freddy interactions. I really hate that he doesn't talk unless it's an event. Give him idle lines when he moves, both near Greg or with Greg inside. Make him send Greg random messages during the night, basically sell to us that they have a bond, build it throughout the night. I just fee like we would all have benefited from more papa beat and feral boy interactions.

♡ Make the hours advance slower and more equal? Idk man if I'm wrong, but I felt like the game progressed a little too fast and random? I just think it would help to get a bit more time

♡ More Vanny, the amount of times we see her is ridiculous...she was supposed to be the main villain, but I never got a real sense of danger from her. Add more chases from her. Make her randomly taunt Greg. Make her sometimes speak through the animatronics. Give us small scene where we see her interact with them. Idk, just add her more.

♡ Add more story elements: I personally feel like the story is held together with tape and that it was not the focus of the game, which imo left a lot of unanswered questions, like why do the animatronics keep getting more beat-up throughout the night, what is the deal with Vanessa, what is the deal with Greg, why is only Freddy not corrupted an so on. I feel there should have been more story elements added throughout, like small cut-scenes or lines of dialogue

♡ Allows us to actually race for a bit with Roxy, I found it kinda sad that it was only a cut-scene

♡ It would have been cool if we could also save the rest of the animatronics, not just decommission them and thus make them allies. I haven't really thought how, if I come up with an idea I will add, but I feel that is should be a more difficult mission than to decommission them, since it basically transforms and enemy into an ally. And taking from the Freddy part, give them some lines as well, I just think it would be sweet. Also with this addition, you create extra endings depending on who you saved.

♡ Remake the Afton final boss, I may be the only one, but I feel that this one was really underwhelming, I think it should have been longer and required Freddy a lot more, needed a bit more action. Taking from the points above, I feel like it would have been cool if you only had Freddy to be a harder boss and more bearable if you had everyone, or just get progressively easier the more you added to your roster. I also feel like the true ending should be with all of them. Also tell us what happened to Vanny. I feel like none of the endings actually touch all the issues in the pizza plex and while I get the idea behind it, I still feel there should have been one that figures out everything.

♡ I feel like there should be an extra panel named Extras :)) where you can see all things collected throughout your runs, so you don't run into the issue of losing everything just cause you got it after six

♡ this one is really not that important, but I think it would have been cool if there was a chance to do sth so that you can restore the ability to save during the after six am part, not really necessary, just and idea

♡ also more Vanessa, she also barely appeared snd didn't feel like an actual threat.

That's all I can think of for now. If I come up with any other ideas, I'll add them to the list

franziska has an aurorus. it’s pretty and she deserves it <3 i also think having an extinct pokemon is on brand for her.

i mean, like she says, is that not what people just did to each other in the aftermath of battles for thousands of years? and i really like how its pointed out that it was what she was raised with (in the beginning when you see her put shackles on that guy after the battle) but she also accepts responsibility for it and acknowledges that it was wrong and not just 'what people did'.

i like how from her expressions you can kind of tell baby andy knew it was off but she sets those feelings aside bc she felt angry. it explains how she felt but didnt make her out to be blameless in it. plus i mean. i dont know, the fact that andy was involved in a lot of morally shady stuff for 7000 years is not that wild for me. if you live that long youre just Going to be involved in some shit, and she didnt even have other immortals with her as positive community influences, she literally just did whatever the fuck she wanted for thousands of years

nicky and joe's complete non-reaction to finding out noriko is alive And Evil Now is endlesly funny. they just left her on that boat and neither cared. i get book and nile not caring but joe and nicky knew her, and they just have 0 input on the subject of what to do with her

i dont know, i get why people didnt like the ending but its. .. . it makes more sense in the comicverse. bc the squad doesnt really. .. interact outside of jobs? i mean, think of the moon landing story in ttt. that was booker and joe and nicky doing a job and andy only showed up a for a couple minutes after it was done. or the brunch in the first issue of opening fire. the squad arent as tight in the comic, and andy often seems to do her own thing outside of work, so andy saying 'i dont want to do work anymore' and the squad being like 'alright bye then' makes more sense in this universe than the movie one

also i feel like greg was Trying to set up a thing where nile becomes the Leader of The Squad after andy dies but like. its not very well done since. . . i mean, nile hasnt spoken to booker since opening fire, (and she only knew him A Day). and shes known joe and nicky all that time, but there isnt really anything that indicates that they have any relationship at all, much less one that's grown. in all the comicverse the only time nile and nicky speak is in FM, and in that scene nicky tells nile about noriko. nile goes from someone who needs to be set aside to have background knowledge explained to her to being the Leader of the group with nothing in between. it kind of... comes out of nowhere.

on the other hand tho... i felt really bad for andy thru the whole thing. well, i always felt bad for andy, but in this one she seemed so miserable, especially since it really felt like none of the others actually.... cared about her. when noriko came back no one asked andy how she was doing (big question ik, but it wouldve showed they cared at least), nobody ever expressed any concern for her, no one even really seemed to want to be around her. in opening fire everyone was more distant than in the movie of course, but there were little moments where she would joke with joe, or nicky would try and comfort her, or stuff like that, but in FM it really felt like they just didnt really care about her. & in opening fire it felt a lot like andy's relationship with nile breathed some new life into her, but in FM it felt like all they did was argue. i get theyre not *as* close in the comics but it really felt like the only person who cared about andy at all was noriko (which was probably also how andy felt) but it just seemed to come out of nowhere. honestly i was reading and i was honestly agreeing with andy that she might just be better off if she did just die. opening fire, on the other hand, never make me feel that way

tho everyone made it sound like when the squad split up it was one of those cursed 'the found family leaves each other at the end of the journey' tropes. but guys i mean,,, this is the second installment out of three. that isnt the End. theyll come back in the third one and Dramatically Reunite to fight some baddies (probably those 'others' noriko mentioned). im guessing yitzhak fits into that too somehow.

anyways it wasnt That Bad but it made me kind of sad and the only Sweet Found Family vibes in it were when they saved booker. also they shouldve beefed up that nilemoose romance, it underwhelmed me. 6.5/10

i also ABSOLUTELY understand all of greg's comments about how you couldnt make FM directly into a movie, he always said that it had no plot and. i get it now. it really didnt have a plot sdfghjkl

Sun is VERY romantic! Lots of snuggles, hand holding, verbal affirmations etc.

Sun also tries to set up dinner dates... Although he has to work with what he's got... ok hi! um idk if anyone has already asked you this but how do think the first tog movie making andy pretty much lose her immortality (it still does feel a little unclear to me if she just like FULLY did) but if she did, do you think that this would effect the sequel movie like, would that specifically be considered a “big” or “drastic” change from the comics?

this is a really interesting question and one that i’ve been kind of noodling over the last few days.  please forgive me for my stream-of-consciousness response (also I’m going to put it behind a cut so as not to spoil anyone who’s still unfamiliar with the basic premise of Force Multiplied):

first of all, I think it’s really important to point out how perhaps the most impactful change might just be how much more nuanced and humanized the characters were in the film... i’ve seen other people mention that you really got a sense of the deep love there, the familial ties between them, that wasn’t  apparent in the comics.  So, from the get-go we have an immediate dynamic shift (just think of Joe’s deep hurt from Booker’s betrayal in the film, compared to pretty much nothing in the comic that hinted at a strain in their friendship, or much of a reaction from Joe at all, really)...

Another major change on that front is Copley’s motivations, which creates an audience sympathy that was completely missing in the comics.  I think it was strangehighs who astutely observed that it feels like film!Copley is a mash up of that character and FBI Agent Mustafa “Moose” King.  I don’t know what that means for the latter character’s appearance in the sequel, or if he’ll still be an FBI agent, but it feels unlikely that Copley will partner up with him to lead the authorities in the direction of the Guard (it would go against his redemption arc in the first film).  

I’m also not sure that if the Moose character is there that they’ll use him to show Nile’s struggle with straddling the mortal world and the reality of her “new” life; the poignancy of her mother and brother suffering under incorrect belief that she’s dead provides plenty of thematic elements to explore in that vein.

But yeah, the most obvious point of contention is Andy’s loss of immortality.  Her absolutely brutal fights with Quynh will have to be significantly altered.  Is Quynh already aware of Andy’s new mortality (having dreamt of it via Booker and Nile?), or will she find out in the worst possible way?  I can imagine that the anger would bleed out of Quynh pretty quickly once she realizes their time together is now limited (let’s hope she directs her anger towards those who deserve it instead). 

Force Multiplied is very much centered on Andy, Quynh (Noriko), and Nile, with the men taking a back seat to their main storyline.  I imagine that Gina will likely keep that structure unchanged; I know Greg hinted at exploring the idea of a disagreement between Joe and Nicky, which would definitely add some interesting flavor and texture to their time on-screen.  

The way the comic ends was kinda controversial (and resulted in a pretty big falling out between Andy and the rest of the team, particularly Nile).  Honestly, I have my doubts that Charlize would be okay with her character having that history in the films.  I can see them changing it so that the cliff-hanger at the end isn’t about that, but instead Andy is killed(?) in battle, but there’s a brief hint that her immortality may have returned (ie: a close up on her dilating pupil or something like that). 

In all honesty, I think that Force Multiplied was good but it has the potential to be even BETTER, and I think that “glow-up” will rest solely on the interconnections and deep love between these individuals.  We wouldn’t care as much about Andy and Quynh fighting if that history wasn’t there between them.  Think of how much more satisfying the reconciliation will be when it finally comes: emotional stakes are paramount.

the character i least understand

Fred. I just do not vibe with him. He’s okay in the original series but Mystery Inc Fred was just a mess and BCSD Fred is annoying as hell with his control freakishness. And in the original he didn’t have much personality (not that any of them did but still). He has always been a mystery of a character to me.

interactions i enjoyed the most

Velma and Daphne interacting is just really cool a lot of the time. The original series are a little... bland from character development PoV so there isn’t that much there but I really liked their relationship in Mystery Inc. I do not recall a lot from the other reboots but they’ve had really cute moments in some of the movies as well. Ooh, and live-action Daphne and Velma interactions are the best!

the character who scares me the most

I guess the werecats from Zombie Island. I have watched it only once and I do not want to repeat because they really freaked me out.

the character who is mostly like me

Velma. I don’t have her IQ but her personality (when she has it) is a lot like me tbh. Especially Mystery Inc Velma but live-action Velma is also very close to me.

hottest looks character

I have always loved Daphne’s design, especially in Mystery Inc (can you tell that’s my fave reboot by the number of times I have already mentioned it?). She’s really beautiful.

one thing i dislike about my fave character

I actually don’t like the fact that they make Velma more... bitchy in the newest reboots. Like, original Velma had her sass but she was actually pretty chill and cared about her friends. Mystery Inc Velma was an emotional wreck (like the rest of them) but at least she had some moments that really showed her love for the gang. BCSD Velma seems a lot more distanced from the rest and that bugs me a little.

one thing i like about my hated character

I... don’t really have a hated character in Scooby-Doo. Not one I can remember anyway. Any of the clown monsters but I don’t have a favorite thing about them so...

a quote or scene that haunts me

Well, Scooby Doo isn’t all that deep. Well, Mystery Inc kinda was actually but I cannot really think of something that is ha... Oh, wait, Cassidy Williams’ death in Mystery Inc was actually pretty haunting. Like, that scene where they find her broken swimming gear and you don’t actually see her die but you know she did and it hits really hard after she promised that she’ll be right behind them because she swims very fast. It brings out tears even now although I have watched that so many times at this point.

a death that left me indifferent

There isn’t that much death on Scooby Doo and the ones that I can remember were actually pretty impacting so... Idk what to put here.

Regina and Facilier XD But if we’re talking non shippy, then probably Ruby and Granny. Ooh! And Mal and Lily. Even though we didn’t see much of either. I just loved those relationships so much. And I love the hell out of the Frozen Swan dynamic. And of course, Regina and Zelena. Ugh, it’s impossible to pick just one! There are so many good relationships. And some that are just interesting (Henry and Rumple and Emma and Rumple for example).

I guess Pan was the scariest villain even though I can’t say that he particularly made me feel scared. None of them really made me feel scared but he felt like the biggest threat... Possible contender for this would be Gothel. But again, I wouldn’t say I was truly scared by any character.

Regina used to be when I was watching it. Now I am not too sure. There have been some major changes and I don’t know if that still holds true.

Well... Regina. And Maleficent as well. So I was basically dying when they were on screen together.

The way that she just fell so hard into hypocrisy in the later seasons (I’m talking about Regina). Season 6 Regina was a fucking mess also with splitting herself in two and blaming Zelena for something that wasn’t her fault. But season 6 was a mess in general and I have elected to ignore it.

Well, my most hated character would probably be the Blue Fairy but there isn’t anything I like about her. Also, Tamara, but again - I cannot think of anything I like about her.

Too many to choose from. But I guess something that will always haunt me in the worst way possible would be Facilier’s death because it was just so goddamn unnecessary and stupid. I have not gotten over it and I don’t know if I ever will.

Well... Greg’s death. It just didn’t really have anything to it for me. Tamara’s death was actually more emotionally impacting because of her interaction with Rumple. I am not saying that I liked it. It actually made me like her even less because she was all high and mighty while she thought she had the upper hand but then started crawling and begging once things weren’t in her favor anymore and that is always something that puts me off. But it definitely evoked more emotion.

Your opinions on Roswell NM are spot on lmfaooo Kyle should be the male lead he's a better character and actor tbh no offense to Nathan he just doesn't have much screen presence in my opinion and Max is by far the least interesting character out of the main eight, idk where you fall shipping wise but they have such a good core of characters they could've done so much with and maybe given us a wlw main ship but that ship sailed when they made Isobel and Maria related and the whole Isobel Rosa Noah thing nixed that being a possiblity as well, ships where both parties are mains just hit different and are given much more care and attention and also make it so the story still feels focused and everyone gets a good amount of screentime, so far these two episodes have actually been really good if they continue like this it'll be a wild ride, also they better not kill off Kyle I'm gonna be pissed but idk who it could be it's not Maria or Alex or Isobel or max or Michael bc Alex seemed fine??? Did we see Liz in the premonition?? It's not gonna be her bc if she's dead they're gonna have to resurrect her and we already did that storyline it's not Rosa we just did that do that leaves Kyle I'm afraid... Or hopefully it's not someone in the main cast fingers crossed

im mostly watching at this point for kyle, maria and greg manes- i just make gifs sometimes and completely stay away from the fandom side of the show for obvious reasons

i was also a huge fan of the original show which was so much better tbh lol also kyle was my fav on the og too!! (i also really loved alex and i was SO PISSED what they did to him) imo nathan doesnt have leading man in him and i actually feel like his acting has regressed over the years instead of getting better whereas trevino is the opposite. i dont want kyle to die either but ever since we saw that maria vision i've had a feeling thats where the show is going- i would be really pissed if they did that but to be perfectly honest, he deserves better than this show. he should be somewhere that actually appreciates his talent

1. What was your favourite scene of the episode? Tell us why!

oooh it’s def the scene where the girls are getting ready to rob fine & frugal. i just find it hilarious that they’re about to rob a store and they’re talking about how their kids are doing in school?? like, what absolute lunatics!! and i think it sets up their dynamic very well right from the beginning, idk. everyone’s always saying that the three girls have a very lived-in chemistry and i agree and i think you can feel it right from this first scene of them together

2. Was there any scene that missed the mark for you? And if so, how?

idk?? i’m very bad at reading and watching things critically, i’m very easy to please, i think?? and this ep just makes me pleased as punch!! but i guess that the scene with beth and amber, while funny, doesn’t really hit the mark for me?? idk, the way she’s framed as a “beautiful dummy” and not as much at fault as dean kind of irks me. i totally get that dean is the married one, but amber clearly knew he was married and somewhat regularly saw his wife, i don’t think she should really be absolved of that. and, idk, i don’t like that she basically got a prize for cheating - like, “here, you helped my husband cheat on me, so take some money to go live your dreams” is such a weird response?? beth was very scathing in the delivery and i get the point was for amber to be out of their lives but, like, still?? why not just tell dean he has to fire her?? this just further proves that beth is an idiot and an absolute lunatic, which we already knew

3. Let’s talk about the Big 6 Character Intros – Beth, Ruby, Annie, Dean, Stan, Rio. What did you think? What did you like? What did you dislike?

oooh i really liked all of them!!!

i absolutely love annie’s, it’s so fun with the car speeding and then with her banter with ben. i love the way they set up their dynamic right from the get go!!

and then ruby and stan’s intro was also amazing!! you get right away that they love each other so much and are so supportive of each other!! the way they both gesture when sara is talking about the women standing next to the men is so cute!!! i love it!!

rio’s is also amazing, he’s a snarky little bitch right from the get go and they really did a great job of also surprising us, thanks to the camera angle, and really driving home that he’s the boss.

i think the one i liked the least is actually beth and dean’s?? i mean, they do a good job of immediately letting you know that beth is the overworked mother and dean is the lazy, good-for-nothing husband - i mean, she’s running around, taking care of everything, and then he just strolls in and asks the kids to go to the car, without even having his tie done. but i think it’s a little misleading and i think it’s one of the reasons why the fandom (including myself) maybe has a harder time accepting beth staying with dean (aside from the fact that dean is a fucking asshole and he deserves nothing less than a horrible death, i mean)?? it really sticks in your mind this contempt she seems to have for him?? and, of course, then you get the flashback to beth getting waxed for him, and so you understand that they were maybe going through a bit of a rough patch but she wanted to work through it, but what sticks in your mind is that first scene, where she’s full of contempt, not even able of saying a perfunctory i love you back. and since they seem to want to drag out the boland marriage as much as possible, i think they kind of failed there.

4.   Ruby tells Stan to fix the damn door! Is Stan an amazing handyman? A terrible one??? 

i think stan is anywhere from ok to amazing, they’re just so overworked that he hasn’t had time?? idk, paired with the fact that he says he’s pulling a double at the beginning of the ep and that it doesn’t seem to be a new or uncommon thing, it just reads to me like a thing he really does want to take care of at some point but hasn’t found the time to do yet

5. Do you think Beth, Ruby or Annie had a way out of their individual financial situations that didn’t involve crime?

in short: nope. in long:

ruby and stan are desperate. they mention stan’s parents at some point, but i assume they just don’t have the money to help them?? and, i mean, they’re both working double shifts and they mention that they’ve had their gofundme page up for years. i think if they had any other way they absolutely would’ve already taken it, for sara’s sake.

we can assume from the flashbacks we get in 2x08 that annie and beth didn’t have as stable a home life as all that. i assume that either their parents are both now dead or they just have no communication with them. either way, they don’t have them as a safety net.

when it comes to annie, she’s working a minimum wage job, driving a very shitty car and her kid’s laptop has been broken for a month without her being notified, because said kid knows they don’t have the money to get a knew one. she does ask for help from the richest person the girls know later (that’s how i think they phrased?? i’m pretty sure), her ex, who promptly says no. so, yeah, it’s safe to say she doesn’t have a way out of her financial situation either.

and, in regards to beth, i think she would absolutely help ruby (and annie) if she could. so the fact that she doesn’t, paired with the fact that we get mentions later that this is not the first time dean has managed to basically bankrupt the car dealership, makes me assume that either the bolands were living close to paycheck to paycheck, but stable enough that she didn’t worry, or that she did think they had some spare money and did give that to them when she could?? because i don’t see how she would not give ruby the money for sara, if she thought she had it, especially when she does it later in the season.

so, no, i don’t really think any of the girls had safety nets or ways to get out of their financial situation. except for beth. she could’ve gotten a job. i know it would’ve been hard because of her lack of work experience, but she could’ve at least tried instead of immediately jumping to robbery!!

6. Is Beth’s backsplash dope? Or was Rio just being a dick??

both!! i mean, i personally like the backsplash, but rio was absolutely just being an asshole, whether or not he did believe it was dope had nothing to do with it.

7. Five major story locations were set up this episode – Ruby’s house, Beth’s house, Annie’s apartment, as well as Fine & Frugal and Boland Motors. Was there anything that jumped out for you about these locations in this episode? Do you think that they were well established given what happens in each across the course of the series?

ok so i don’t know enough about like tv shows and storylines and all that stuff to answer this, i’m sorry. but, like, i think it’s very cool that fine & frugal is robbed in the first and last episodes of season 1, it’s a fun full-circle type of thing, and i love that we’re introduced to boland motors via dean’s affair and beth’s destruction of it because it’s something that permeates the place throughout the whole time?? i mean, beth later “borrows“ one of the cars, rio smashes the corvette because of beth, it gets raided by the fbi because of beth’s illegal activities - beth is always destroying it, even when she’s not literally destroying something like in that first episode. and in season 2 we have beth fully realising just how deep dean’s betrayal was in the middle of the boland motors showroom. both of those things are always there!! it’s cool. and saying that, i mean, they kind of went the same route with boland bubbles, if you think about it?? we get dean cheating on her there, her fully realising how deep his betrayal is via gayle’s comments and then her clearly robbing the place?? boland bubbles really is just a continuation of boland motors

8. We met lots of supporting characters this episode too – in particular Boomer, Baby Tyler, Amber and Greg. Based off of what we saw of them in this episode, pick one, and tell us what you think!

i love baby tyler and amber!! i love that we’re introduced to baby tyler being all smiley and y’know a little bit ridiculous eating ice cream while on the job and maybe obviously inept because of it. and maybe you expect him to not do anything during the robbery because of that but then he really tries?? he thinks he’s facing off with 3 armed criminals and he really goes for it, he doesn’t cower like boomer!! he’s adorable!! and amber i already talked about and i know i was a bit harsh but i really do love her!! her oblivious comments are gold.

9. Screenshot and/or tell us about your favourite character look~ this episode.

frankly, this ep doesn’t really have any stand out looks for me?? the one exception is annie’s outfit when she picks up ben in the porsche. you can really tell how happy she is that she could one up nancy, that she’s proud of herself because she’s gonna get to give ben the laptop he needs.

10. This episode gives us some sharp character notes on Beth, Ruby and Annie – from Beth’s capacity for violence to Ruby’s visceral anger around being ignored, particularly when it comes to her daughter’s wellbeing, to Annie’s tendency to run a mile when given an inch. Is there a moment that stood out to you, particularly in light of future seasons?

ohhh i mean, there’s something to be said about beth’s capacity for violence uh? she keeps refusing to acknowledge it, because that doesn’t fit her stepford wife without a pulse image as annie calls it, but it’s always there - she’s always ready to blow up and throw some keys at your face. and ruby’s response to being ignored kind of screws her over?? she was very lucky jt only wanted her address for his nephew and didn’t become a second mary pat. idk, i’m sorry. like i said, not very good at critical thinking.
