What did that dumbass do to make him immune to decepticon death????

Beat the shit out of miner!Megatron while he was a corrupt cop on pre-war Cybertron, it was mentioned in the issue where Whirl attacked Megatron while he was alone shortly after Megatron arrived on the Lost Light (part of his initial plans with Getaway and Atomizer)

Don't get me wrong, Whirl absolutely faced consequences for his actions from decepticons and decepticon sympathizers, but none of the decepticons were allowed to kill Whirl during the war.

His hands stopped where they were in the air, inches from cupping the mech’s face. He intended to tilt his head to the side, so he could get a better look at what looks like a busted audial, but now he almost feels like he can’t. Like this is all a fabrication, and the slightest touch would make it disappear.

Mutual truce au getatarn with post war Damus and Getaway trying to plan something malicious together but that ends up crashing and burning in favor of a relationship as they both try to puzzle out new roles in the grand scheme of things

*spoilers* (kinda) for chapter two of my fic hit me hard and soft, but this optimus dialogue is too good not to share:

miscarriage/mpreg mention

Optimus turns to him with a set to his jaw and a hardness in his optics.

“I'm sorry for the pain you're experiencing, so I will let that comment pass. But don't ever undermine my decision when you know how hard that choice was. You have everything you could have wanted in front of you, yet you refuse to take full advantage. If you want to talk about choice–that's a choice you're making. Not anyone else. Don’t be upset with other people when you should be upset at yourself.”

Ratchet opens his mouth but Optimus pushes onward, ignoring his attempts to speak.

“Don’t be upset at yourself for the loss you couldn't control, but because you hold yourself to an impossible standard. You deny yourself happiness. You deny yourself your wants and needs, leaving me powerless to watch. Because you are stubborn.”

He's never denied being stubborn. It's a trait he can't get rid of despite the many complaints he's gotten over the years about it.

“You push people away because it's easier in the short term, even though it only makes things harder in the long term. Ratchet, I love you–but you are stubborn to a fault. You deny yourself and expect everyone to do the same. But I won't. I refuse to."

Somehow Optimus still isn’t finished, even as his words make Ratchet start to curl up in shame. His defensive posture loosening as Optimus takes a hammer to his well crafted walls.

He reaches over the desk to place a hand on Ratchet’s shoulder. “I want to be sensitive with you, but my patience runs thin. I didn't come in here to say I told you so or lecture you. I meant that. But I cannot continue this charade of yours any longer. I’ve held my words for vorns, but I fear I have to be blunt now.”

Optimus hasn't even spoken yet but Ratchet feels him stiffening, prickling in discomfort at the idea. A part of him sympathizes with the complaints he's heard of the years. Complaints of how Optimus makes those feel small with his grand speeches that sound like lectures. With those who say he holds himself above his soldiers, relying on pretty words and grandstanding.

But he knows that's not Optimus' intention. That he's never trying to come across that way, rather it's their own insecurities twisting Optimus' meaning.

Another part of him wants to stand abruptly, walk out and hide, rather than listen to Optimus.

His spark dances in his chest as he stays seated.

“You must allow yourself to grieve this loss. You have held this pain separate from you for so long. Prevented yourself from feeling it for so long that it's unhealthy. It’s not right. You know that. You've told many to do the exact opposite of what you're doing now, and you know that. You cannot do this forever. It is already exhausting you. It is exhausting for me to watch. I cannot understand how you’ve continued on this long. Allow yourself to grieve. You lost your sparkling in a way that no one ever expects. No one is asking you to stay strong.”

Ratchet glances up at Optimus momentarily, but can't hold the gaze, finding it easier to look at the makeshift desk he sits at. Finding it easier to focus on the metal and concrete that makes up the majority of their base.

“As a carrier, I know how the burden of guilt feels. At knowing you could've done better. At not knowing whether you made the right choice and never being able to see the result. The mech you created. That's what being a good carrier is about. Trying and failing and making mistakes but caring so much. You never stop caring. And you are already a good one. The amount of time you spend worrying about others, rather than yourself–that's what carrying entails. Most don’t have nearly the amount of practice that you do. You could see that, if only you’d pull your head out of your aft.”

Ratchet sits there for a moment as the words process. Optimus could have been so much worse, but still it hits. To go from never mentioning the loss at all, to it being acknowledged in any real capacity is startling. Bringing clarity to the self-pitying cloud of guilt that had started to form around him. Almost as if Optimus had actually raised his servo to slap him.
