I had never seen a stoat or heard of that name so thank you for bringing to light what Topper could potentially be!! They are so cute ♡

I'll be totally honest with ya, I had no idea what a stoat was until way earlier this year when one of my friends explained to me what a stoat was after I sent a video of one and saying "WHAT THE HELL IS THAT I LOVE IT SO MUCH"

They're super cute but apparently they're aggressive predators. Overall they're not domesticated, but some people have domesticated stoats, and I like to think Quincy is one of those people :)

P03’s type of affection when giving is gift giving and acts of service. 

While he does love physical and verbal affection, it can’t always really bring itself to initiate it. Whereas with gift giving and acts of service is a much easier type of affection for P03 to initiate. 

Gifts from P03 are little trinkets he finds on the assembly line it thinks you’ll like, small tinkered machines, and your favorite snacks. He loves to see you get all flustered and/or excited whenever you get a gift from it. It makes his motors purr. If P03 is feeling a bit off but still wants to show love for you, he’ll place the gifts near places you visit often. 

In terms of acts of service, P03 likes to help you with just about anything. Carrying certain things for you, getting objects just out of your reach, tasks like that. The only no for him is anything that has to do with your personal organic needs. The bot winces at the thought of partaking in such beastly matters. 

When receiving affection, that’s a different story. Although P03 does like receiving gifts and an extra hand on his day to day tasks, it really loves receiving physical and verbal affection. 

The two go hand-in-hand as P03 loves nothing more than to be held by his partner while they murmur sweet nothings to it. Kisses, cuddling, hand-holding, P03 loves every last bit of it. 

Any affection is appreciated from P03’s partner, he loves with every last spark of its circuits.

To say that P03 is shocked is an understatement. Many emotions are going through him; Fear, protectiveness, desperation, anger, all flowing through it like a wave crashing on a shoreline. 

The bot isn’t used to being protected in such a way, let alone by someone so close to him. The lonely years in the factory really did something to him. He’s scared for your safety, wanting to not only keep you safe but to also escape the situation you both were in. P03 doesn’t want you to get hurt, and he’s angry at itself for not being able to prevent this event from occurring.

If you were to get injured during this, all of that worry comes crashing down on him as it desperately checks to see if you’re alright. If you weren’t injured too badly, and were still able to partially support yourself, P03 would scold you with a mix of worry and anger. However, as stated before, that anger is not directed at you. If you were seriously injured though, P03 panic and fear is going to skyrocket. He quickly picks you up and takes you back to the factory (had this happened outside of it) so you can be treated properly. 

Afterwards, P03 would be thinking about it for a while, much to his dismay. The thoughts of you sacrificing so much of yourself for him make something in its mechanisms ache. Such things distract him from its work, and it can become highly frustrating for a bit such as P03. Besides the troubling thoughts and memories plaguing P03, he’s also keeping a close eye on you afterwards. 

With him fearing that although you were able to protect him, it may not be able to protect you.

Getting the obvious first answer for Dove outta the way; a Dove! (I swear this is only partly bc of her name lol)

Dove's actually have some religious and mythos symbolism;

"...doves were prominent animal symbols of Inanna-Ishtar, the goddess of love, sexuality, and war."

(They also tie in with Aphrodite and other goddesses which is neat) I think this ties in well with Dovie because she's this strong willed person full of love having to wage a warpath through a place she called home.

"The use of a dove and olive branch as a symbol of peace originated with the early Christians, who portrayed the act of baptism accompanied by a dove holding an olive branch in its beak."

THE SYMBOLISM SPEAKS FOR ITSELF. This especially works well for her dynamic with John and her role in Joseph's prohecy I think! Dove while definitely getting her hands dirty can be seen as a kind of pure figure and especially when she's with John she can be a form of gentleness to contrast his violence and Joseph could see her as John's true salvation.......

It alsoooooo makes sense with her character seeing as when she was younger she may have felt trapped like a bird in a bird cage and her Daemon being a Dove helps symbolise that and !! When she's finally in Hope County she and her Daemon are able to fly and be free in a sense! Plus Dove's are terrific navigators and with Dove's love of the outdoors and hiking having a Dove Daemon who can fly and point her in a good direction would be handy!

So yeah I'd definitely say Dove works well for her, I also considered possibly a Stoat purely based on vibes but a Dove just makes sense. Also can you imagine her Dove Daemon curling up with John's Ball Python Daemon it would be precious. (Also has that prey and predator dynamic which could be so fun to work with....)

For Evie I'm leaning towards Wolf or a Hawk!

Daemons settle largely based on what their human needs, their lifestyle and the type of person they are and considering what Evie went through I could see her Daemon settling on a wolf as a form of self protection. It's a fierce predator, it can keep up with her on her long travels and is great for comfort cuddles.

Wolves are pack animals and they take care of their family which fits Evie very well I think. They're mostly seen by outsiders as intimidating and I get the sense seeing Evie and her gang roll in would strike some fear in some hearts. But wolves are incredibly playful and loving as well, especially towards each other which I have no doubt Evie can be loving and playful with her gang.

With the Hawk Daemon it's pretty similar reasoning, instead of a land predator it's a predator of the sky. Maybe matching Evie's wish to be able to soar up, get her sights on her prey and swoop in and take him out. A Hawk would also fit her wandering lifestyle and be very helpful in terms of hunting for food. Hawks also usually travel in flocks so this works well for Evie's group dynamic again.

"Although the hawk is known for being a violent predator, some are gentle and quiet."

A final note from Wikipedia which I think also works with Evie's vibes! Either visual is pretty badass, though imagining a Hawk flying down and landing on her shoulder is pretty rad ngl!

YEEESSSSS WILD WOODERS CUDDLE PIKES!!! This headcannon hits me so damn hard and makes so much sence to me, because

1) even if the Wild wooders are defiently threat to the Riverbankers, that doesn't mean there's nothing else out there, either in the Wild Woods themselves or from the Wide World, that wouldn't pick off a lone weasel or stoat if they had the chance. Sleeping in a pile/in a group just makes sence protection wise,

2) is the theory that the Wild wooders don't really have homes and just kinda sleep where ever they find is true, then sharing body heat is a huge must, especally in the colder months, and

3) it's probably their only real sence of security and affection. These are animals that have all but been pushed out by society, always being seen as dangerous and threatening, to the point where any source of affection they'll ever receive is from eachother, and even that's probably kinda rare unless it's among couples or those in relationships (prime example being Chief and Cheryl), as they attempt to keep up that persona of tough, ruthless animals up, even among eachother. Sleeping in cuddle piles/in groups can be passed off as just a sensible survival tactic, while also providing them the affection and closeness they've been denied.

.... also, I will die on the hill that Cheryl, Cheif, and Lesser all sleep nuzzled against eachother in a pile. There is nothing and no one that can convince me otherwise.

1) Oh, I certainly believe that the Wild Woods have a high mortality rate, especially for Riverbankers, but that’s more to do with the geography of the place. Badger’s sett proves that there are old ruins beneath the forest, but I bet there’s also old mines too - and unless you know what you’re looking for, you’re in real danger of wandering across a mine shaft and falling. Not to mention the risks of getting lost (the Woods are noted as being particularly dark) or eating something you shouldn’t. 

The UK doesn’t have much in the way of natural predators (foxes are our biggest carnivores) but that doesn’t stop domesticated predators being a threat. (Dogs, especially, but I suspect their pups are in danger from roaming cats, and feral ferrets.) And, of course, there’s the poisonous snake, the adder. So yeah, sticking in groups isn’t a bad idea. 

2) I think the general theory is that the Wild Wooders have a fairly communal home set up - in communities where resources are scarce, often folks band together and share what they have, in the understanding that it all balances out in the end - and I kinda like the idea that even though they may have their own burrows and suchlike, it’s not uncommon for them to group together, especially during the colder months

3) I’m always seesawing between the idea that the Wild Wooders attempt to keep up their tough, ruthless persona even when among their own, and the idea that they carry an offhanded, understated kind of affection which the Riverbankers don’t really see. (For instance, the Wild Wooders aren’t one for declarations of affection, but unspoken care is valued higher - for instance, saving a plate, yielding space at the table when they elbow their way in, or backing off when someone is having a rough time - and it’s kinda rude to make a fuss or highlight it.)

Also, Cheryl sleeptalks (and snores, but no one dares tell her); Lesser will sleepwalk to the pantry if no one stops him, and Chief sometimes sleeps with his eyes open and it kinda freaks Cheryl out.

Reader confessing to P03 that they’re in love with him? I’m all weak for mushy content

The Three Words.

Pairing: P03 x gender-neutral!Reader

Warnings: None.

Summary: Maybe it hadn't been the wisest idea to admit your love for the robot so suddenly, so unprompted.

P03 is stunned, eyes widened on his display, body rigid as he floats in place on the other side of his table. He hasn't said anything for long enough that you're beginning to feel as though you've done wrong; beginning to feel that you may have overstepped, beginning to feel that you've said something you should have perhaps kept to yourself.

Maybe it hadn't been the wisest idea to admit your love for the robot so suddenly, so unprompted.

But you couldn't help yourself... Not when you'd been feeling this way for so long now.

Back in the days when you had known him only as a talking stoat, P03 had been your companion in a time of need; been your guide through a terrifying place, been your voice of support and reason when things had felt hopeless. He'd become your confidant after returning to his true form, your teacher in the ways of this new game world, something much more than a friend on those days and nights you spent cuddled up in the comfort of each other's embrace...

Of course you feel this way. How could you not?

...P03 still hasn't said anything, nor moved any.

Cheeks flushed with embarrassment, you clear your throat and stand from the table, quietly murmuring some excuse about why you need to leave. If you've said something you shouldn't have, you don't want to bother the bot by overstaying your welcome...

Turning, you take a step towards the door, and then another--

--but that's as far as you get, before his claw curls around your wrist, and you hear him repeat those three words to you in a rush:

"I love you too..."

...Your eyes widen, and now it's your turn to go rigid with surprise.

Behind you, P03 lets go of your wrist, his arm wrapping around your waist as he presses close to you. You can feel the warmth of his pleasantly heated metal body as his chest touches your back.

"Look, I-- I'm sorry for not saying anything right away... I'm sorry if I scared you." His arm tightens a little around you, his embrace as soothing and welcome as ever. "It's not that I didn't want to say it back, obviously, or that I didn't want you to say it. I just..."

You can tell that he's having difficulty with this; his voice skips out now and then... something that only tends to happen when he's nervous, when he's thinking too much and processing too hard. Gently, you rest an arm atop his own, silently offering your comfort and reassurance.

"...No-one's ever said it to me before," he murmurs, his monitor resting gently against your shoulder. "It was nothing you did, I just-- literally didn't know how to respond for a second."

"I'll say it to you everyday, if you let me..."

You mean it, too. You love that Scrybe with every fiber of your being, with every beat of your heart; if he's not used to being loved - and you know that he isn't - you want to remedy that by giving him all the affection he deserves.

"Well."

His hand grasps your wrist once more, and he tugs, turning you to face him. Floating up - because he always has to be 'taller' than you - his monitor displays the sweetest smile you've ever seen him give, and he wraps his arm around your neck to draw you close.

"Guess I'll just have to say it back everyday then, huh?"

He gives a soft synthesised chuckle, and you laugh with him, pressing a tender kiss against his display.

"I love you so much, P03," you say those three words once again, your eyes meeting his own.

And this time, there's no hesitation in him as he says it back: "I love you too, my challenger. Always have, always will."
