"I can't swim." No one line in any media has effected me the way that did last night.
The way my gut dropped and the way I had this awful nausea gripping my being because yes. He can't swim. How many others can't?
If you were there, can you swim? I can't, not to the extent that it'd save my life in that situation. I can't swim so I'd be doing the exact same as Kino. I'd know I'd either have a choice to make with only two ways to go and they both end up with me dead - stay and be killed, or try swimming away and drown. It's so real and so heartbreaking.
This is the side of Star Wars that people - that you and me - can relate to. Not the jedi. Not the mandalorians. It's the people that can't swim.

all hate to tiktok for taking 'having a space to more openly and actively talk about different cultures' to mean 'cultures are NOT to be shared and we must be vigilantly defensive of our cultures for fear of appropriation, a word that can be applied to any multicultural interaction'. like of course cultural appropriation is a very real problem but ive seen with the access to global multicultural conversation that tiktok provides it's made people TERRIFIED to even interact with cultures other than their own for fear of 'doing it wrong'. like at some point you have to acknowledge that in the real world of the great outdoors, the majority of people are eager to SHARE their cultures. yes there are ignorant questions and biases but also... how do you think those things get unlearnt? i dont understand how deciding that multiculturalism is an elephant in the room instead of a normal thing that should just be talked about and lived with is supposed to benefit anyone? and kids on tiktok are CONVINCED that it's a time bomb of a conversation to have and therefore must be avoided at all costs but like. people generally LOVE their home and their culture and are PROUD of it and want to share it. how have we made it so that showing genuine interest and a desire to understand something so integral to a person's identity is now feared and borderline demonised?

ok hehe another headcanon: i want lea & aqua to be friends solely because of the fire / water thing and cuz their little brothers look the exact same lmao
I WANT THIS SO BADLY TOO although when re:mind came out i remember people actually had the OPPOSITE hc because there's a line during that fight as a group with the guardians of light vs the xehanort replicas where axel says something and aqua replies along the lines of 'don't talk, fight!' and he says 'you don't have to say it like that..' and. i will admit it was kinda funny but i think they would still have a fun dynamic (and if not friends then rivals somewhat?), the water and fire thing could be very fun and they have fun opposing personalities that would make their interactions genuinely interesting. and i would love a parent swap situation (despite neither aqua nor lea being parents but more along the lines of the twins swapping places and seeing how well they can blend in)

at like, 3 min in, lars attempts to converse with james, who, per usual, is completely uninterested in his schemes. lars thinks he has just generated the greatest plan ever. james is like. Hm, Maybe I Will Need 3-5 Business Days To Consider. (but they are still completely in sync) alas.
finally on pc, finally i could paste that url and watch the vid hdjfdhskf
that said, the way james just looks at the page fjkdsfkjfs def not that interested in that "breather", certainly not as Lars dfjshdfjshf
gotta say, tho, that he comes back on line, just to make a joke fjksjfkf classic

hi maria!! do you think id enjoy vinland saga? your posting abt it has intrigued me :)
Hiiii :D
Im probably biased because i just want more people to watch vinland saga and i love it sooo much, it meant a lot to me, personally. I think its very well written, every scene has a purpose, things that seem irrelevant in the beggining get recontextualized as you know the characters better. For some people it may be harder to connect with the main character in the first season because hes very static for that part of the story but thats kind of the point? It can be frustrating seeing thorfinn keep going down a certain path but its very important for his development later on and i think its also a very realistic depiction of trauma. Vinland is very realistic in general, its a historical drama about a very violent society and it doesnt shy away from that, it can be very brutal and hard to watch at times. Its very much concerned with how growing up in a violent environment affects your development in a myriad of ways. Another aspect of the series that i love is the political intrigue and scheming that some characters get up to, particularly in the second half of both seasons, the characters are very smart and all their decisions have layers to them. I think the show also finds a balance between having very cool fun fights while still showing that there isnt glory in fighting, its the best of both worlds in that sense. Basically, i think its very good kzjsmzksms but that doesn't necessarily mean that everyone will like it, i can see some people having a hard time connecting with thorfinn, but its definitely worth it sticking with the series. I cant recommend it enough!

ok you’ve convinced me to watch bsd so where can I watch it? and do I need to read the comics? if so, in what order and where can I read them?
EEK OMG YAY! okay so one thing about me im a little student girlie #ihaventboughtmilkinaweek so i will always consume media the free way lmao. the site i read the bsd manga on is 'bsdmanga.com' which seems very legit but does also do pop ups a lot for me so just make sure you've got an adblock going. if you want to properly buy them though ive seen bsd being sold in almost every waterstones! as for the anime, the sub and dub were both free on crunchyroll AND funimation back when i first started watching it, but not anymore bc everything is awful. the main less-legit site i use for anime is 'animesuge' and that has it there :)

I have a special interest in Flatland and look at the tag a lot, cool to see it getting more attention. Anyway yeah the Film (and the Movie) are both absolutely fucking deranged. I read the book like "man what a good social commentary from a Victorian progressive about how sexist, ableist and classist his society was" and then watched the film like "why is that woman fucking eating herself." Cool to see someone with the opposite experience, I'm sorry you found out your blorbo is a eugenicist
i always knew he was a eugenicist just not that bad 💔💔
Its a pity how short the book is, I'd love to hear more of the authors thoughts on higher planes and how that interacts with politics. The book was a little hard to read with all of... That in it, but it was a very effective critique on his society. I specifically loved the prose in it and i really wish there was more. We should all email him to write a sequel comeon guys he cant stop all of us !
