thank you for answering my silly ask, ur answer is perfection.
something funny I noticed about Samis Arabic is that it is a lil...clunky?? like nothing he says is incorrect but it feels like he's translating it from English to Arabic in his head, which makes sense considering he grew up wealthy so he's probably a bit whitewashed. whereas Azur has perfect Arabic, I'd like to imagine him teasing Sami about his Arabic, its weirdly cute lol
one more question! are the cousins Muslim or just grew up with Muslim influence? also I lied its 2 questions, do/did they listen to Arabic music?
sorry if you already talked about this before
Tumblr media
Salam, It's good to see you again! I had no idea that Sami's voicelines are like that since I only started learn Arabic a few months ago ;0; so this information is really helpful for me!! Let's get into the questions :D
Are the cousins Muslim or did they just grow up with Muslim Influence?
I think they would be both raised to be Christian (A mix of Orthodox and Catholicism) because of the general religion in Austria during the 80s and 90s (and because I can't find any statistics of Muslims in Austria during that time period + I feel I'm not confident enough in my knowledge of Islam for me to really say)
However I do think that the cousins, no matter how whitewashed they may be, definitely grew up with some Middle Eastern (not Muslim) influence even if they didn't know (In Germany/Austria "Wallah"/ "Mashallah" is used as slang amongst teens) or Their parents (Krueger's Mom, König's Dad) cooking them food from where they're from. (Idk if that makes sense ;0; please feel free to correct me!)
Did/Do the Cousins listen to Arabic Music?
They do now, just a few songs, but they didn't before, because they didn’tknow how to get access to Arabic music because when you search up "Arabic Music" on YouTube or Spotify you get like.. not really songs but more instrumentals .
I like to think Sami was the one who was like "Have you two heard of Sherine? Just listen to Sherine" And they just have her on their playlists at some point :3
If you have any input you believe can be helpful Please feel free to tell me :D as a thank you here's Me going through all seven stages of grief trying to learn Arabic with my friends (They are one of the main inspiration for my headcanon I care about them dearly)

𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝙖𝙨 𝙔𝙤𝙪 𝘼𝙧𝙚—bandmate mizu hcs
✧⋄⋆⋅⋆⋄✧⋄⋆⋅⋆⋄✧
Hey dears!
I've been listening to an old playlist I made when I still had time to listen to various genres of music and nostalgia hit me in such a good way.
Hope that you will find much fun in these headcanons as much as I had fun writing them <3
Enjoy! Mwa mwa :*
warnings: not proofread, she/her for mizu, implied afab reader
note/s: manager reader; mizu has a crush on you
Tumblr media
✦ She plays both electric guitar and bass. She'd be sporting a white Epiphone 1961 Les Paul SG Standard, a graduation gift from her step father. Since it had so much sentimental value to her, she never really got around to replacing it. But when she got her first job, she spent the first few months saving up for her bass which was a Fender American Performer Mustang Bass.
You'll never see her in the studio without it. She even keeps it by her side when everyone's taking a small snack break. It's like they're her babies.
One time Taigen tried playing with it while Mizu was in the restroom and everyone was surprised at how fast she came out of the comfort room to smack him on the head with a force so heavy the smack sound echoed around. With that incident, everyone knew not to touch her instruments.
✦ Dresses up either in the typical oversized shirt and baggy pants...or like Kurt Cobain. You cannot change my mind. End of conversation.
✦ Mizu would be the type of member who has argued or fought with every one at least once. It didn't matter how insignificant the issue was. If she didn't like what she saw or what was happening, she doesn't hesitate to speak up about it. This, of course, led to arguments and fights that you often had to mediate.
Why you? It's because she never really listens to anyone else. If anyone else broke up the fight, she'd fight with them as well.
"Mizu," you sighed out, crossing your arms and staring at her with an unamused look.
When you arrived at the studio, Ringo had immediately informed you that Mizu and Akemi were arguing yet again. The atmosphere inside was so thick, you could probably cut it with a knife. This led you to pulling Mizu out of band practice to have a talk with her.
She leaned against the wall, crossing her arms back. Her head was turned towards another direction, not really able to look at you. "It's her damn fault. Her and her old man," she simply replied, making you sigh yet again.
"I know you're annoyed at her dad for interrupting our practice again but you know you can't argue with Akemi all the time," you responded, unfolding your arms and placing a hand on her shoulder. "We need both of you in this band, y'know?"
Her body tensed up slightly when she felt your hand make contact with her shoulder, a blush forming on her cheeks ever so slightly. Fuck you're so cute. She glanced at you before pushing herself off of the wall, rubbing a hand over her face, seemingly annoyed. "Fine, fine. I'll apologize," she grumbled
You smiled at her, making her glance at you again. "Thanks, Mizu."
When both of you returned inside, she immediately apologized to Akemi like a brat who was scolded. But Mizu knew she'd argue with Akemi again the next time her dad barges in the studio. She's just trying to please you for now.
✦ If she isn't playing, she'll be sitting all by herself, researching about where to buy instruments and paraphernalia or watching recordings of another band's recent gig. Ringo would often join her when he spots her. His sudden appearance often makes her jump. At first, it would just be Ringo talking about his day, then what he ate, then the new songs he discovered from the smart shuffle feature of Spotify to which Mizu would either respond by not saying anything or just nodding.
When Ringo spots her looking for better instruments, he'll start talking about second-hand equipment and old but gold repair shops. Although it seems like Mizu isn't listening to him, you'll spot her checking the seller's profile or going to the shop itself on her free time even if she had no intention in buying anything.
✦ Has the most random playlist among everyone in the band. While everyone had a main genre they stuck to, such as Taigen with grunge, Akemi with pop, and Ringo with country, Mizu just listens to whatever. As long as it sounds good, she adds it to her playlist.
And mind you, she just dumps all the songs in ONE playlist.
You tried listening to it once and hearing AC/DC's Back in Black after listening to Twice's TT followed by bouquet by Ichiko Aoba was not something you'd expect to hear in that order.
She gets embarrassed when she finds out you listened to her playlist but doesn't make it obvious. The next time you look at her profile, you'll find a playlist named "you, it's always you" and it's just filled with love songs and songs about having a crush.
✦ Along with the previous, their opponents during battle of the bands competitions often underestimate her. The other competitors would be so confused because why is this dude listening to Tchaikovsky backstage instead of practicing his rifts?
Mizu was simply chilling backstage, earphones in, listening to her random ass playlist again when a shadow looms over her. She looks up and sees Akemi, staring at her and saying something she could not hear.
She removes an earbud, raising an eyebrow at their vocalist in a seemingly annoyed manner. "Your music is too loud. We can hear it from the dressing room," Akemi points out, crossing her arms. She leans forward and looks at Mizu's phone before letting out an amused huff. "Don't you think listening to Hamilton before the competition is a bit weird?" she asks with a smirk.
The other bands sitting around and eavesdropping on the two whispered, glancing at them. Hamilton? Really? Before a battle of the bands competition? Bud is already throwing away his shot, they thought.
The guitarist simply grunts at her, shrugging her shoulders at her. "This is none of your business. Go warm up or something," she replies before putting her earbud back in and closing her eyes as she leaned back against the chair. Akemi rolled her eyes before walking off, probably to find the rest of the band.
When they get up on stage, everybody already thinks the guitarist doesn't know shit. But man, the look on everyone's faces when she starts playing Chopsuey? Goddamn.
Goddamn.
✦ Unlike the others members, she doesn't actively try to build connections with other bands. Once the competition is over, everyone except Mizu is out their mingling with other bands. You're out there talking with your fellow managers, Ringo is talking about food with the other bands for some reason, and Taigen is out there attracting the other women which leads to Akemi dragging him by the ear. Mizu is just...there.
She finds interacting with other people unnecessary. She also has her moments when she recognizes and wants to talk to someone from another band but she's too awkward to talk to them. What she'll do is just stare at them from a distance and wait for someone to introduce them to her.
"You're burning a hole through their heads," Taigen comments, sitting down next to Mizu on the equipment crate and propping his leg up. Mizu grunts in acknowledgement of his comment but continues to stare at the other band. "They probably think you're a weirdo," he laughs.
She glares at him for a brief moment before looking at the band at a distance again. "They had a gig in the bar near our studio. Pretty impressive," she explains. Taigen nods, now staring at the band too.
The both of them watch as you approached the band of interest, cheery and bubbly. Almost immediately, you were already chatting it up out there.
A manager's skill probably.
Mid-conversation, you felt someone watching you so you turned around, eyes meeting with the two. Your smile widened, making the two of them stand up, knowing what was about to happen. They watched as you talked with the other band again. Suddenly, they looked at Taigen and Mizu's direction and approached them with you by their side.
"And these are my bandmates!" you introduced, moving over to their side. Just as Mizu was about to shake the vocalist's hands, the vocalist from the other band immediately patted her shoulder. "You're that person from one of our gigs! So how was it?"
The introvert in her was thanking you so much.
✦ She's a lady killer, but she's also very awkward when women approach her. As much as Mizu is pretty, Mizu is undeniably very handsome as well. Let's be honest, who wouldn't be attracted to a tall, well-built guitarist with an aloof aura and the sexiest deep voice you've ever heard?
The problem was, she didn't really know how to interact with them. The moment someone tries to hit on her, she's either frozen stiff or already planning her escape.
Mizu could not do anything but stare at what had landed on her feet.
It was a bra. With someone's number on it.
"Call me! Please!" someone from the audience screamed. She looked around in confusion before looking at the article of underwear by her feet with her eyes narrowed. Slowly, she bent down and picked it up, holding it by the straps.
Holy shit these were big.
What the hell was she supposed to do with this? Throw it back to the owner? Poor Mizu was lost. She continued to hold it up awkwardly, trying to figure out what should she do. If you hadn't told her to toss it you, she'd probably still be staring at it by the next song.
And you'd think people would stop doing that, but no. In fact, the amount of women hitting on her backstage increased. The little incident on stage somehow increased her charm with the ladies. Because holy shit...she plays both guitar and bass, both tall and well-built, looks so fucking good in a relaxed fit, can be both pretty and handsome at the same time, has an aloof and mysterious aura, AND she's awkward?? Sign me up. Sign me the fuck up.
✦ Unintentionally gets good venues for gigs. That's why you always bring her with you when talking to the owner of the venue. None of you really know how she does it, but she does?
"For the last time, I'm telling you. We've already booked enough performers for this month," the owner grumbled, glaring at you and your persistence.
You frowned at him, clasping your hands in front. "Please! We just need a gig to fund a new amplifier," you begged, giving the owner doe eyes. To no avail, the old man wouldn't budge...is what you thought.
Mizu saw your frown and knitted eyebrows and decided that it was a good time to approach you. She looked at you before looking at the owner with narrowed eyes, almost like a glare. "Is there a problem?" she asked, stepping forward and closer to the owner, stopping only once she was almost face-to-face with him. Her sharp blue eyes stared at his, piercing through his soul.
The owner stepped back a bit, looking up at her before shaking his head. "No no, we were only uh...talking about which time slot you wanted next week!" he said awkwardly, rubbing the back of his head.
Upon hearing this, you immediately perked up and gently pushed Mizu aside. "What? Really?!" you exclaimed, holding on to the guitarist's arm in excitement. The owner nervously glanced back at Mizu, who was still looking at him with the same intimidating stare, before nodding in clear defeat.
After you had negotiated with him, the two of you left with a smile. "That went supeeer well!" you laughed out, looking over at Mizu. "What'd you do anyway?" You grasped her arm, shaking it slightly.
She shrugged, looking anywhere but at you to conceal her blush. "Beats me. I just looked over to see what you were frowning at."
✦ She doesn't like singing even if she sounds pretty good. Everyone in the band, except you, has heard her sing and has tried to convince her to be the lead vocalist for at least one song but is always greeted with a "no" or a "shut the fuck up". She WILL do the back up voice but she feels too insecure about how deep and husky her voice is so it's rare.
You didn't know she didn't like singing though and on one faithful occasion...
You opened the door to the studio and was immediately greeted by the sight of Mizu sitting on the floor with her guitar in hand. The two of you arrived pretty early so the rest weren't there yet. Her guitar was unplugged and it seems like she was looking up songs on her phone.
"Hey..." you greeted her quietly, to which she nodded. "What's up?"
She looked up from her phone before sitting up straight and propping her phone on her thigh, getting ready to play. For a moment, she did not do anything but stare at what was on her phone before looking at you.
"Want to hear me sing?"
You looked at her with wide eyes, a smile slowly tugging on the corner of your lips. Despite her question catching you off guard, it was still a welcomed surprise. You nodded and sat down on the floor next to her, leaning against her slightly.
Her breath hitched upon feeling you so close to her before she slowly relaxed and started strumming on the unplugged guitar. At first, she started strumming a bunch of random chords to calm her nerves. Once you heard the first few chords, you immediately recognized the song.
"If I could begin to be half of what you think of me, I could do about anything..." she sang, strumming on her guitar softly. "I could even learn how to love."
The way she was singing the song so shyly yet so tenderly warmed you up.
Each strum.
Each word.
Each pluck .
It was like she was singing the song with someone special in mind. You leaned closer to her, resting your head against her shoulder, not minding how much it was moving.
She moved her shoulder a bit lower so you could fully rest your head against it, still singing. "Look at you go. I just adore you." She glanced at you for a moment before continuing. "I wish that I knew...what makes you think I'm so special."
A small smile also tugged on her lips as she looked at you. You looked so peaceful. You felt so peaceful. Like you were enjoying your time with her as she continued to sing. "When I see the way you way you look shaken by how long it took, I could do about anything.."
"I could even learn how to love like you"

Hello!
Just wanted to say the IF is amazing, i just spent 3 days straight binging it and loved every second. Please ignore if it has already been asked but what is all the RO's preferred genre of music? And favourite songs if they have any?
Keep up the amazing work!
Thank you for the kind words! And I just wanna say, your ask is the final push for me to actually scour through most of my songs on Spotify and finish assembling playlists for Rin, Santana, Skylar, and Jackal 😆 But I had so much fun doing so and I'll keep adding more and updating all of the characters' playlists as I discovered more new (and old lost) songs that fit them.
I have the links to their spotify playlist which contain a mix of their favorite songs and some songs whose lyrics fit them. I don't think I can link too much stuff in one post unfortunately, so I'll make a separate post to announce the rest of the characters playlists later on 😁But I'll try to link one song that either perfectly encapsulate their music taste or whose lyrics fit the character--or at least a song that they'd enjoy listening to.
Also, I basically have to split up my own music taste and favorite genres among all of my characters and I'm running out of genres 😭 But as for your question, I don't think I've answered something like that before--at least not in detail.
Sorry in advance for the long post (I just love being able to gush about my characters and music 🤭)
Ash
Ash enjoys quite a wide variety of genres, but mostly, their go-to are genres that are more energetic and/or aggressive. So, think like Rock, Phonk, Dubstep, Trap, Drum and Bass, Metal, that kind of stuff. But usually, they listen to songs whose vibes and/or lyrics kind of fit the mood they're in at the moment.
Also, fun fact, they did have some kind of an emo phase during their angsty and edgy teenage years 😂 It wasn't really too apparent (like no, they didn't have that typical emo hairstyle or wore those iconic eyeliners), but they just relate to quite a number of the lyrics of songs that can be considered to be emo anthems.
The song that fits the genre they like to listen to and the lyrics also matched their feelings and obsession love for MC is "So Sick" by Johnny Goth.
"So Sick" - Johnny Goth
youtube
Rin
As the child of a classically-trained musician, Rin mostly enjoys classical and instrumental music. One of their favorite instruments is the piano and they used to enjoy learning to play it. Maybe in the future, when they won't be so busy anymore, they can pick up their piano lessen again...
Also, they tend to gravitate towards more soothing and calming songs in general because of the headaches they usually got after using their power too much or to see to far into the future. So most of their playlist is filled with instrumental songs, either piano, cello, or violin, or a combination of those.
As for the song that fits them, I'd say "The Belt of Faith" by Jung Jaeil kinda fits their vibe and the gravitas they carry (Yes, the main soundtrack for the film "Parasite" and yeah, I can see the irony 😂 )
"The Belt of Faith" - Jung Jaeil
youtube
Santana
Santana loves that tinge of old-school songs that they were often exposed to whenever their parents listen to in the radio. So, the genres they enjoy are synthwave and retrowave songs 😎
As for the song that encapsulates their favorite genre and whose lyrics fit them quite well is "Gloria" by The Midnight.
"Gloria" - The Midnight
youtube
Skylar
Skylar is a pretty chill and upbeat person who loves and enjoys nature, so their favorite genres include those upbeat summer music and Indie/Alternative Folk music. They also enjoy the occasional pop songs.
As for the song that fits their vibe and desire to just fly off and be free is "Get Away" by Surfclub.
"Get Away" - Surfclub
youtube
BONUS
Luka
Luka enjoys Electronic music, including Phonk, Post-Punk, and Alternative/Indie. So, yeah, quite a variety of genres. But for one song that fits him the most, from the lyrics to even the title itself is "Everything Black" by Unlike Pluto 😆
"Everything Black" - Unlike Pluto (feat. Mike Taylor)
youtube
Jackal
Just like Luka, he also enjoys Electronic music, especially Phonk. But unlike Luka, he sometimes loves Hip-Hop music as well. One of the few songs that kinda encapsulate both of those genres and fits with his personality is "Heartless" by UNAVERAGE GANG.
"Heartless" - UNAVERAGE GANG

Bpp how have you been handling chapter2? Do you get bored or lose interest in Bts in hiatus? Do the solo rollouts not bother you? Please be honest I really want to know you true opinion.
***
Hi Anon,
Chapter 2 has been rough for you, hasn’t it? At least, based on your ask it sounds like it’s been. Tangentially, did you enjoy yourself this past weekend?
I’ve said this before, but if you ever feel like it’s a chore to remain plugged into BTS or stan culture, please step back. Don’t feel guilty about detaching if you no longer find joy in it. Move on to another hobby or another group if that’s where you’re at. BTS has fans, don’t worry. Don’t feel any obligation to stick around if Chapter 2 isn’t serving you what you want. You can check back in 2026 when the guys are together, or move beyond them completely.
That said, personally, I wonder how you can even ask me this question. Like, what else has Chapter 2 been but a trip? Lollapalooza, Balming Tiger collab, World Cup, Jungkook’s birthday video for Jimin, Indigo collabs, Set Me Free Pt 2, Promise on Spotify, On The Street, D-DAY tour, Yoonmin live, etc.
It’s been a blast. The music is easily some of the best globally this year and last. To illustrate:
...
The song I just listened to is Baseline by j-hope.
youtube
*
It's like a drug for me.
I don't think you understand.
I get high... off their music. Like, I don't know why you think two years of irregular releases without their full promotion of that music, will change my underlying sentiment. BTS scratches an itch few other artists can reach for me.
[ The sentiment? BTS is one of the best musicians of my generation. They make music that actually slaps. Any day of the week. Any genre they touch. It's prime good music. ]
Let me walk you through my playlist for the last half hour:
J-hope - Baseline
Baseline is the sauciest hiphop joint out of Korea, ever. J-hope is undeniably one of the most skilled and versatile rappers out of Asia. Point. Blank. Period.
RM, Tablo - All Day
RM's vocals in All Day render me a stupid mess. He's sooooooo... he's kinda nasty. I mean, it's big, he's kinda messy with it, but he ultimately knows how to use it, and he knows you know that he knows. All of this I deduced from his articulation and delivery on All Day. Tablo too, that tease, matched Joon's energy seamlessly. No further comment.
youtube
*
RM, Mahalia, Benny Blanco - Closer
Namjoon created a masterpiece with Indigo. It's an atrocity that many people won't admit it. Really. Indigo is the album of 2022 (Hurt by NewJeans being the song of the year, and JITB at Lollapalooza 2022 by j-hope the concert experience of the year.) Closer is an impeccably produced song. I mean it's almost disgusting how smooth the production, arrangement, instrumentation, etc on that song is.
youtube
*
Jimin - Alone
The cold clarity in his lyrics. How raw and honest he is, in such a well produced track... people need to show this song more respect.
youtube
*
RM - Change Pt 2.
The only song that rivals how brilliant and badass this one is, is Set Me Free Pt 2 by Jimin.
youtube
*
Agust D - D-DAY
The entirety of D-DAY album still has me in a vice grip, but something about D-DAY the song, rips to the core. How he manages to slip something rock anthemic into the epic call to arms he made that song into... Yoongi is in a league of one.
youtube
And to drive home the point, listen to him on HUH?!
Agust D, j-hope - HUH?!
Still the best song on the album. Undeniably. I mean, if you don't black out when this song comes on are you even alive? /gen. No matter where I am, what I'm doing, I could be exiting my company's underground garage, loading laundry, whatever... no matter what I'm doing, when this song comes on I feel my brain short circuit. It's like a mental reset. I suddenly feel so alert and primed with tension I could kill a person if I felt like it. The grandmas scared about what rap does to teens... songs like HUH?!, really do flip a switch in people's heads. They're right to worry because that's what the genre, drill - the gritty, ominous, and violent contemporary expression of rap - that's what it's made to do. And Yoongi showed an effortless mastery of it in HUH?!
youtube
*
Agust D - tour medley
I hope people who weren't able to see Agust D in person, were at least able to see him in the livestreamed concerts. Many times since I saw him in California, I've come back to some fancams from his earliest days of the tour. This one by rogrog is a favourite. Yoongi is a master of his craft who loves to show off his virtuosity. And in his D-DAY tour, that's what he does.
youtube
*
j-hope, J. Cole - On The Street
Jung Hoseok just casually produced this timeless classic and dipped to the military. No fuss. No sweat. No excuses. He just did the thing, had J. Cole spit some of the sickest bars of his career on that song, then said, "see you later."
Things like this are why he's my bias.
He's a consummate professional.
youtube
*
Unpopular opinion, but I have no real issues with their solo roll-outs. I'm not unsatisfied with too much and frankly, I'm so greedy for new music I wouldn't mind another cluttered roll-out. I hope Joon's music follows soon after JK's because God knows I'm not sure I can stand the wait much longer. Joon makes a lot of 'BTS-style' music and so whatever he drops will serve as the perfect complement to Seven / JJK1. And Vmin will likely drop new music in the next year as well.
Chapter 2 has been kind of a blast.
That's my "true opinion", Anon.

TW: mention of javert's suicide
follow up on me being sad about unrecognized les misérables music!!
i think a few people know about the song called javert by red diamond dragon club - but did you know there are MULTIPLE amazing songs called javert?!?!
before i start, i would like to state that these are all my interpretations of the songs, and the writers have not confirmed everything i say!!
1. javert - red diamond dragon club
this song is probably the most popular one among the fandom, but it's still unrecognized.
this song is almost an alternate version of javert's suicide. it is an indie(?) rock version that shows us javert's anger over being released through lines such as:
"valjean, what have you done to me?"
"did you know what you did when you set me free?"
"and you won't leave, trapped inside my mind. mon dieu, this devil is shaking the ground."
"won't you tell me why i'm not okay?"
"you make the night not follow day"
"and who am i? looking down, i see your face, the water rising up"
this song is not only catchy, but it is a good display of javert going through the five stages of grief, including anger.
2. javert - penny and sparrow
this is a short, pretty folk song about javert. while there are romantic undertones in this song, i interpret this as javert's internal feelings and that he isn't speaking of a specific person.
he could very well be, with lines such as, "when you hold me, it's knee jerk," but i would like to think this is just how javert feels trying to interact with people in general sometimes.
"i can feel the beginnings of arguments to often start off that way"
"well fuck how i feel, it's a bad gauge of realness"
"how can it be, is their room in your home for a man that feels to prone to fall through?"
"can you honestly expect me to confess that ... or i'm worth the work it takes?"
3. javert - deadman
this song is by far my favourite on this list, being number one on my spotify wrapped this year, so this will be a longer section of this post.
i'm not actually sure how to define the genre of this song. it could very well be a folk song or a country song.
this song is confirmed to be written about someone talking to the ghost of javert after he has committed suicide. it is a song that switches between both english and french (depending on the performance), and it is a truly beautiful piece of music through both lyrics, performance and instrumentals.
it is FILLED with references to javert's life, including christianity, water, blood, wine, as well as many metaphors about these things as well.
my favourite reference in the song is the one made about javert's actual death (keep in mind these lyrics vary in different performances):
put your gun on the floor
i'll pour you some wine
i am willing, but my spirit is not
this verse alone is simply amazing. the lyrics to this song are so well thought out and beautifully performed, and i really suggest listening to this song. and while javert didn't die to a gun, you can still understand what they're referencing. this could even be a previous attempt, before the seine.
the song is also a little mysterious, with this verse:
we used to be friends
when you used your old name
back when you worked for the law
they could honestly be talking about anything in this verse, and i like that it's up for interpretation.
the chorus is also incredibly well written with it's references to javert drowning:
and if ye strike the rock
then the water comes forth
water that used to be blood
formerly blood
and becomes blood again
and unstopped, rises to flood
however, suddenly at the last chorus, they change the word "blood" to "wine".
there are a few more songs titled "javert", however, i am unsure if they are actually about the les misérables javert or not, so i will not be including them.
anyway, go give these songs a listen if you haven't already! if you know any more songs about javert, please let me know! i recall hearing about one a long time ago, but it wasn't called "javert," so i can not find it.

Character theme(s) take two
╮(╯∀╰)╭ ok so I'm a huge goober who apparently can't read and a while ago I did this game wrong. (Don't ask me about my day job lmao )
Anyway, I actually have a lot of instrumental only tracks for the blorbettes, so, here is some penance. Three instrumental character themes plucked from the playlist I curate with my husband! (You can peep it here on Spotify if you're interested!) One for Oli, one for Ren and one for the both of them!
Oli
Tumblr media
I don't know exactly what it is about this piece of music, but I've just also felt it was perfect for poignant Oli moments. Alexis Ffrench is amazing tbh, he features pretty heavily in a lot of my writing playlists because he's a wonderful composer!
Ren
Tumblr media
I know this technically still has "lyrics" but they're not actually real words, Yoko Kanno made them up. What a legend! They're another layer of the melody and the depth they add is so beautiful, even if they are just a made up language! However, I do also have a great piano cover of this song on the playlist, with no words which I like to listen to when writing certain poignant Ren scenes c:
Oli + Ren
Tumblr media
The tentative start of this song and the way it builds up into this winding crescendo is always spinning around my brain when I think about the blorbettes and their own little waltz through the timelines. Also, Amelie is one of my all time fav movies. I always loved the soundtrack so it's a boon to get to share it. Yann Tiersen is one of the best composers of our time!
Please forgive me frens, also, no tags this time due to the aforementioned "I'm a huge goober" c':

Summer reading/writing/arting tag
Tagged by @mareenavee @paraparadigm and @changelingsandothernonsense! Thank you and sorry it took an entire lifetime to get to this lol
Tagging @elfinismsarts @thelavenderelf @the-sunlit-earth @katastronoot @duo-kun to participate but no pressure!
1) Describe one creative WIP project you’re planning to work on over the summer.
Aside from the obvious continuing to work on my fic, I hope, HOPE to make a piece of cover art for Ascent from the Ashes.  I don’t know much about creating cover art, though, so if anyone has any advice I am open to hear it!
2) Rec a book!
Am I basic if I go with a Stephen King novel?  The last book I read of his was Misery, and when I tell you my palms were sweaty (mom’s spaghetti) and that I was actually scooting to the edge of my seat during the climax, I am NOT kidding.  This book was gripping and terrifying in all the right ways, and while it’s an older novel, I highly recommend it for horror enthusiasts.  I personally enjoy all of his works that I’ve read, there are many that I haven’t gotten to, and I would say he’s my favorite author and I hope someday my writing can be as vivid and horrifying as his.  (Side note, i HATE horror movies, but I loooooove horror writing.  Love it.  Give it all to me)
3) Rec a fic!
Ooh, and it has to be outside my character tag?  Can it still be in the fandom?  If so, Between The Ashes and Fire by the bestie @elfinismsarts.  I’m kind of particular about what kinds of fic and writing styles I like to read, and after just reading the first chapter of the first installment, Blood of the Dragon, I was hooked and read the fic in its 69 chapter entirety.  I have never once read a multichapter fic from beginning to end until this one, and its sequel Blood of the Wolf is just as good!  Please please go check it out!  Her characterization of the Companions is second to none, and her OCs, Firien and Tahir, are incredibly fleshed out and are a true example of Grumpy and Sunshine.  Absolute delights.  I love them both ❤️
4) Rec music!
I don’t normally listen to anything while I write or draw, yeah I know, that’s weird.  But on the few occasions I do, I actually prefer to listen to instrumental pieces that fit the tone of what I’m writing.  The Fiechter Brothers have an extensive library of worldbuilding-type music that is perfect to pop on to do some writing, especially their fantasy albums.  They're on both Youtube and Spotify. I’m also a big fan of ambience videos by various artists on Youtube, so for example if I’m writing something taking place outdoors at night I might pop on a video of a crackling fire and crickets, birds etc.  I’m an extremely visual writer and reader, basically seeing everything I am writing in my head like a film as I go, so hearing such things in the background really help me get in the right mindset.
5) Share one piece of advice!
Let me keep this short and sweet.  Create for YOURSELF.  Don’t create for likes and attention, it will only serve to disappoint.  If you’ve got an idea in your head, fuckin do it, and don’t dwell on the stats… says the person who is fighting with this mindset on a regular basis 🙃

10, 17, 30 & 42 for writer's ask game, please? :)
Heyyyy! Thanks for the asks!
10.  Do you set yourself deadlines?
I do not. For my WIPs, I used to try and finish chapters up a week or two after my last update, but now that I'm older and have a lot more things going on in my life right now (consequences of becoming an adult), I don't set deadlines at all. Sometimes I update in a few weeks, but these days it's more like months. But I'm trying not to let so much time pass anymore since I'm getting back into writing. If I feel the need to set deadlines later, maybe I will. For now, no.
17.  What writing habits or rituals do you have?
I always have to put on some music to write. It helps block out the world around me and keeps me immersed in my thoughts. The type of music I listen to varies, but most of the time it's Lofi instrumentals or video game soundtracks. If I find a song that keeps me particularly focused, I will then loop that song until I finish what I'm doing. That's why my Spotify Wrapped will have some weird results in some years. They'll think I'm a big fan of a specific artist when in reality that one song of theirs I looped for five hours is the only thing I've heard from them.
30.  Favourite idea you haven’t started on yet
Since I'm heavily involved with both the KNB and BTS fandoms, I'll give ideas for each!
For KNB, I have two fave ideas. The first one is a sequel to Accidental Siblings that would function more as a slice-of-life one-shot collection, but I have to finish the story first before we move on to that, so the idea is motivating me to finish, lol. The second fave idea is something I think will also be a one-shot collection but based on the headcanons I have of KNB characters playing Sky: Children of the Light. I want it to be Akashi-centric and follow the shenanigans the Teiko gang + Kagami would get up to while having gaming sessions on Sky. The whole concept of the series would be how the game acts as a vehicle for them to get closer and strengthen their friendship in different ways. I even have a name for it; I wanna call it Sky Therapy. I'm already assuming the fic idea is super niche so I'm not expecting much response to it when I finally do get along to starting it. I'm mainly just writing and posting it just for the sake of it and because I want to.
Now, for the BTS one, my fave idea I haven't started on is based on BTS member Jin's song, The Astronaut. Along with that song, Jin created a mascot named Wootteo. This is what Wootteo looks like, for reference.
Tumblr media
Wootteo is meant to be an alien, sent to keep us company while Jin is away (The Astronaut was released right before Jin enlisted for mandatory military service). With that being said, I wanted to put a spin on it and create a sci-fi AU set in the very distant future where Jin is a robotics engineer who built Wootteo and gave it to the other six BTS members to keep them company while he was away on an important space expedition. The fic would be told from the perspective of the other six and how they're dealing with both Wootteo's presence and Jin's absence. I do have a deadline for this one, though, because I wanted to drop it on June 5th, which is 7 days before Jin is discharged from the military. I thought the timing would be perfect.
42.  How do you feel about love triangles?
I don't feel this or that about them because I don't read much romance where triangles are involved, but I think they're fine if they're done correctly. Adding love triangles just for the sake of it is tacky. Give me a good reason why the triangle exists in the first place. Give each part of the triangle proper tension and complexity.
Also, some stories claim that something is a love triangle when in reality it's just Person B and C liking Person A or Person B liking Person A and Person A liking Person C. In both scenarios, the triangle is incomplete. Give me REAL pining and unrequited love. Person B has to like Person A while Person A likes Person C and Person C likes Person B. That's where the good shit happens.
Anyway, thanks again for the asks. If anyone else wants to send me some, have a look through and pick some numbers!

Few days ago @ikonofilizm tagged me to do the "put music player on shuffle and list 10 first songs" thing Thank You my dear I loooooove doing this shit 😁😁😁 let's get to it
1. Lucky to get him by Aly and AJ - revisited this album recently, it's really nice and chill, I like the direction they're going in now as adults. I was never really into Americana, but maybe theyve kinda changed that with this release.
2. Another life by Jadu Heart - god, this was the first song I've ever heard of them, such a throwback!!! I remember walking thru the city at night time, walking back from a party I think? Alcohol leaving my body and I just stared at the starry sky. An unbelievably beautiful track. Since then the duo became one of my favorite bands atm.... Please give them a chance, especially their last EP.
3. Liquid air by Temples - one of my favorite tracks from their new album. Talked about them more than a healthy amount of times recently; really good neopsychedelia if you're into that stuff, a 10/10 album for hot summer days.
4. DYNA by PEEL - some more neopsychedelia! It's been a while since I listened to it, but I used to have it on repeat so much.
5. HAUNTED by Isabel LaRosa - ugh, i remember when it came out and I discovered it in like one of those spotify playlists. It had like a thousand plays maybe!!! And I loved it so much, I added it to my midground playlist and had it really high up on my wrapped for that year, and then I checked back a few months ago and it became like a tiktok sound or something with like a billion plays :((((( I guess good for her but mannn my pretentious soul was hurting LOL
6. Assumptions by Sam Gellaitry - some house...ish dance track, i guess. It's fun and I like that vibe of sort of city pop it has going on, but the fucking high pitched sound at the start is the WORST. So fucking annoying. Every time it comes on, even though I actually like the song, the noise just pisses me off and I cant help but skip it!!!! Who thought it was a good idea to START with what sounds like fucking tinnitus.
7. Upside down by Sacha Rudy - ohhhh throwback... I used to love every single track this guy would put out since like 2019. And then he released that EP last year and other than "upside down" I really just couldn't get into it. Felt like a mess. And now he's disappeared since! Can't help but hope he'll come back with something as good as "be a man", because that was my most listened to track that year. So good.
8. Lamb's wool by Foster the People - HEY that's my song!!!!! Oh no wonder it's coming up on shuffle when I've listened to it so much again this past few weeks. This time it's the original and not the Poolside version. One of my all time favorites, like, ever, and if you can only listen to one of the songs I've listed, please make it this one. Who DOESN'T love tracks about how terrifying death is??? I'll hold you so you're not alone 🤓
9. Blessed by August Charles - people who listened to my dinner party/cafe playlist probably heard this one. Ugh it makes me so melancholic. Really good tho. No wonder it's his most listened to track.... I should probably check out his other works bc I really like his voice.
10. Theme of Re:Served by Re:Served - instrumental track with So Few listens that it doesn't even have the count visible on spotify! I remember being obsessed with them back in 2016, when the way I would discover new music was by downloading random japanese experimental albums from my favorite site. This is honestly just like runway music. I love runway music with good bpm. This one is good. You should listen to it and become their third monthly listener with me.
Thank youuuuuuuuu for tagging me!!!!!! Sorry its so long tho!!!! I love talking about songs I love!!!!! Tagging back: @moldavite , @slavicafire (i know u never do these but hope dies last!), @ferdydurke , @jurajurica , @kotikonnut , @skrzynka , @nocylipcowa , and everyone else who listened to at least one of the songs 😁😁😁 let's have a lovely Sunday afternoon everyone mwah

All We Do anon here, this first part is directed to both you and the da capo anon—I would highly, highly recommend taking a listen to "Sun" and "Taste" if you haven't already. Please. They're songs that, like All We Do, are very much celebrations of humanity (which is also what I associate with this blog).
Oh I love SAL's Enneagram songs too! My favorites are 1, 5, 8, and 9. That's literally almost half of the songs but who cares?! It's all so good.
I am very bad at music. I have learned how to play instruments before but I have very poor relative pitch and my rhythm is always slightly too fast. Also not a singer. All this to say that while I don't quite relate to your perspective on SAL's work when it comes to personal renditions of it I still find it really interesting! SAL is one of those artists I'm very very hesitant to share with other people because of how precious they are to me, so I don't really get to hear others' thoughts on them.
Also I can't believe I didn't make the connection to Neptune! Da capo anon thank you for picking up the slack on my end!
I have not had the chance to listen to the playlists yet because 1) I don't use Spotify and must familiarize myself with it and 2) combined they are over 8.5 hours long. I have looked through the songlists though and would like to say: The Oh Hellos!! The Crane Wives!! I love them both!!! They both have such wonderful songs (and you have such wonderful taste!)!!! Also:
I see you have "Hello My Old Heart" in one playlist. Have you heard the most recent version? If not, I'd highly recommend it. It has a very different feel to it but it is also amazing.
I've recently been rediscovering my love for the Crane Wives so I'm just going to list A Bunch Of Songs: Take Me to War, I Talk in My Sleep, Never Love an Anchor, Allies or Enemies, Tongues and Teeth, Metaphor, High Horse, Empty Page, The Garden, and so so much more. These are all very different songs, but they're all very very good.
Since it's tradition now (if twice can count as such), I'll recommend another artist! Hozier!!! He has a lot of good music too! I wouldn't say it shares the same vibes as SAL or All We Do (and that applies to a lot of the Crane Wives songs as well), but I would absolutely still deem them amazing. Some of my favorite Hozier songs are "Nina Cried Power," "In the Woods Somewhere," "Like Real People Do," "Shrike," "Almost," "From Eden," and "Movement."
I realize now that this is legitimately a ridiculous number of songs to recommend all at once but I do genuinely mean it when I say they are all wonderful (although since they differ quite greatly from SAL and "All We Do I" I can't exactly promise you'll love all of them).
This is getting a bit too long so I'm just going to add that I'm very very happy that you also shared the playlist for hold me softly!! It's another series of yours that I love greatly and I didn't expect to see it in your response so the fact that it was there made me very very happy!
May you also be very very happy!
omg omg omg you have NO IDEA how happy this ask is making me right now!!! I was literally gushing about you and da capo anon to my partner earlier when we were chatting about fic and writing and how nice it is to get feedback / enthusiasm from other people!!!!! no but truly, you and da capo anon have given me some energy back when it comes to writing, and specifically for the fics you both have given me feedback for and engagement with. This past year or two is the first time in my life I've actually had the mental time and space to really build good daily writing habits, and this fandom and these fics I've been working on have been the first time I've been able to tackle and accomplish big writing tasks and actually, you know . . . accomplish them. It's been a fun bit of growth to go through, and I mean that genuinely. Thank you for being a part of it.
(also the fact that you and da capo anon and I are having a full conversation through asks is making me cackle with joy because it's so fun)
I HAVE SEEN THE NEW VERSION OF "HELLO MY OLD HEART". I LITERALLY SPENT AN HOUR RAMBLING TO MY FRIEND ABOUT IT WHILE ON A DATE WITH HER, AND YELLING ABOUT THE FIRST VERSION AND THE DIFFERENCES AND MEANINGS, AND SHE WAS JUST GRINNING THE WHOLE TIME. IT WAS FANTASTIC.
I do a lot of singing while I work, and a lot of my repertoire is The Oh Hellos and The Crane Wives, among other traditional folk songs. Folk music my absolute beloved. Scribefindegil here on Tumblr has a great catalog of folk and filk (fiction folk music) and I highly recommend checking out all the stuff she and Nate (astriiformes) have done. Eregyrn also has lots of good recommendations for folk and filk on her blog, and also awesome art. There are lots of others who have lots of really great stuff - I've reblogged a decent amount of folk and filk music at some point or another, so if you search it on my blog it should be tagged. Lots of neat stuff and creative people!!!
More music to check out!! Bless you!
Hozier's music is great - I've listened to a lot of his stuff off-and-on, but I'll have to put your recommendations on my work playlists so I can listen to them again.
All We Do anon I am hugging you with all my might, the fact you hold me softly makes my heart light up with glee. It is and always will be my baby in terms of fics and fic series, because it was my first real foray back into fic writing after several big life changes. It's also the first big story I've ever composed that's actually made it onto paper and not just spent time as spoken or imagined tales. There's so much more still to come in that world and that story, and with some luck and hard work I will get to tell it. I hope you'll be patient with me until I can.
For now - in return for your benevolence, have a section from the next installment of hold me softly. Title and excerpt under the cut.
An excerpt from the fic "so build me a cottage of sunlight and stone" from the fic series "hold me softly (kill me softer)" by howtotrainyournana on Ao3.
Summary: On the residence of king Eret in the cottage of one Dream. Or: Dream earns the last name “Was Taken” by kidnapping a king. Dream is not amused. Eret, however, is having a great time.
. . .
Eret did not wake up this morning expecting to be kidnapped.
To be fair, it has been a very long time since someone has tried, so he doesn’t usually wake up expecting to be kidnapped. He thinks he’s a fairly good king, all things considered; he’s neutral in all conflicts, but not uninvolved. He seeks peace and fairness and justice, and he sees to his people and his lands and their needs. He holds a hands-off approach for most things, preferring to give people their freedom so long as they are good to each other. It’s been a good approach for staving off kidnappings and assassinations and other unpleasantness that generally comes with being a monarch, even one in name but not function.
So, the kidnapping is a surprise.
He’s blindfolded, which is inconvenient, but his ears aren’t muffled and he’s not gagged. He flexes his wrists and shuffles his legs and is pleasantly surprised to find that while his arms are bound, his legs are not. He doesn’t know if he was drugged or not, because while he remembers going to sleep he doesn’t remember being tied up or transported, and he’s quite sure he would have woken up at some point during all that. He’s not a heavy sleeper.
Eret takes a moment to try and suss out what he’s laying on – something soft, maybe a bed? There’s a pillow under his head and he thinks he’s laying on old quilts by the feel of them, so probably yes. It’s very comfortable. He listens closely to the sounds around him, but when all he hears is birdsong and a breeze through windows and the distant sound of running water, he figures it’s safe to reach up and undo his blindfold.
He blinks in the light and takes in the cottage around him.
It’s a small thing, one room, and stuffed full to the brim with just . . . everything. Every bit of space is meticulously utilized, and Eret’s rather impressed. The rafters are hung with baskets and herbs and meats, hooks and shelves fill every wall, and the windows open outward to give more space inside. The door is open too, which is a pleasant surprise.
Eret stands – on steady feet, so a drugging seems unlikely, which begs the question of how he got here – and wanders about the room. The most curious thing about the whole place is the costumes – and the masks. There’s a little dining table absolutely crammed with sewing supplies. There’s a little redstone-driven sewing machine of a design he’s never seen before.
He might try to figure out how to take it with him.
There’s spools of thread and stacks of neatly-folded fabric and a pincushion absolutely glittering with needles. Thimbles and buttons and hooks and clasps peek out from an overflowing sewing basket on the back of the table, and a half-empty bag of stuffing and scraps is stuffed haphazardly itself under the table next to the little stool. There are costumes in various states of completeness folded or hung up or laid out around the sewing corner, but what really draws Eret’s eyes are the masks.
There’s a delicate golden mask with curling ram’s horns. There’s a feathered half-mask, all black and silver and with a wicked beak. There’s a monkey mask, and a fish, and a horse, and a dog, and one with a strange geometric pattern that’s hard to look at. One is split neatly down the middle, half black, half white. One is a simple white porcelain circle with a smiley face on it; another is nearly its mirror image, but the mouth is open and laughing. Another yet is the smile turned sideways, another only a smile with no eyes at all. There is a beautiful blue mask of scales and fur, another of white bone and sharp teeth and six horns. There is a mask that is simply a smooth black dome, reflecting the beholder back at themselves. Eret gets lost in it for a moment, or maybe longer than a moment, because he startles back into awareness when something soft brushes past his legs. The light has shifted a bit, crept that much closer to midday.
There is a calico cat purring and rubbing against his legs.
“Oh, hello there little one, I didn’t see you there,” he says, bending down to pet her. She purrs louder. He pulls his hand away, and she meows in protest, so he gives a chuckle and sits on the rug, patting his leg. She walks over his lap and begins kneading bread on his legs, purring like a motor.
“Nice place you have here,” Eret remarks. “I don’t suppose you’re the one who kidnapped me, are you?”
“No, that would be me,” says a voice from the doorway, and Eret startles again. The cat leaps off his lap and runs over to the man at the door. He scoops her up in his arms and pets her, tilting a masked face and very obviously considering the king seated on his floor. The mask is a pale wood, Eret notes, with a smile similar to the porcelain ones. There are thin, branching antlers reaching out from the crown of the mask.
“Did you have a good rest, Your Majesty?” the man asks, and his voice is familiar.
“I did, thank you for asking,” Eret replies. It never hurts to be polite to your captors. “Who might you be?”
The man tilts his head the other direction, and Eret can tell that he’s smiling even though he can’t see a bit of his face.
“Myself,” the man says, like it’s an inside joke between the two of them. Eret feels like he should know him, but for the life of him he can’t place the voice.
“And who might she be,” Eret asks, gesturing at the cat purring in the man’s arms.
“That’s me,” the man says, laughter in his voice.
“So I guess that makes me I, does it?” Eret jokes back.
“No, that’s me,” the man says, pointing at the cat, “and you are I, not me.”
Eret breaks into a grin.
“I think I might like being kidnapped this time,” he says, and the man laughs.
“Careful, you’ll ruin the reputation I’m trying to build, talking like that.”
The man walks over to the fireplace, depositing the cat on a little climbing shelf on his way. She disappears up into the rafters. The man swings the kettle over the fire. Maybe they’re going to have tea? Eret wouldn’t be opposed to it.
“And what reputation would that be?”
The man keeps fiddling near the kettle. Two porcelain cups get unhooked from the wall; a jar of crushed herbs uncorked; and a gleaming jar of honey opened. Tea it is, then.
“The thief who stole a king,” the man replies.
Eret hums as he stands.
“That’s quite a bold reputation to be seeking. Tell me, what’s it for? Fame? Money? Status? A sense of power?”
The man turns back, steaming mugs of tea in hand. The mask is lifted, pushed upwards into curling dark gold hair. Eret sucks in a breath, because - his eyes. Eret knows those eyes, knows that face, knows that voice. But it's not the Creative God standing before him. Eret knows that, like he knows when the wind will turn and the seasons will shift, like he knows when the tide of battle is reaching a fever pitch, like he knows when his breath stills at last he will breathe anew somewhere different in a new body and an old life.
"Fun," the man says and yes, yes this will be, thinks Eret.
He accepts the tea graciously and grins at his unwitting host, demure and graceful and already plotting. The man grins back. Oh, to be a young fool again. Eret sips his tea again before he speaks. Let the games begin.
"So, what should I call you?"

hey it's bt anon i am not here to make fun of you for liking dress so much this time, i actually also love predilection lol and wanted to rec you a band you might like, i dont think you know them. maybe listen to soft ballet's whole the whole from million mirrors, white shaman from incubate and YOU from form (giving you album names too in case you have trouble finding them though they're on spotify and i think apple music as well). soft ballet was fucking legendary, their whole discography is fire. also i think you would also like hamlet machine's enamel snake from album evil flower (track 3. this one you will only find on youtube) a very delicious song with sort of predilection vibes, they came around the same year after all. if you dont like them please dont tell me because i love these bands very much lmao ok bye
i'm gonna do the song ask for thisss but i promise i probably won't be a hater
whole the whole
couldn’t listen all the way through | not my thing | it’s okay | kinda catchy | ok i really like this | downloading immediately | already in my library
i like the flat vocal delivery in contrast with the funky music. gives the song a cool factor.
white shaman
couldn’t listen all the way through | not my thing | it’s okay | kinda catchy | ok i really like this | downloading immediately | already in my library
instrumental reminds me of frankie goes to hollywood lol im into it
you
couldn’t listen all the way through | not my thing | it’s okay | kinda catchy | ok i really like this | downloading immediately | already in my library
the weakest of the three soft ballet tracks, just cause i feel like it's the rawest track and they could eb doing more but i'm having fun
As for enamel snake, i will say seeing hamlet machine gave me a fucking heart attack (not because of the band... if you iknow you know please do not judge me it wa a BAD type of heart attack) and finding the song was a bit annoying BUT i found the whole album on youtube and I AM into it. I'll have to find individual downloads later. Japanese music remains some of theeee msot annoying music to find but its worth it it's worth it

Okay so I've gotten a new hyperfixation of the BEAUTIFUL Broadway performance of Ride The Cyclone. I've yet to finish listening to the album however I want to talk about the opener and how it opens and the meaning cause I don't see anyone talking about it and NEEDS to be talked about cause it's so good and unlike no other I've heard. It's not happy like many other musical openers it's tragic while comedic at the same time. Into the analysis!!
Let's start with the very first song you hear when you open the playlist: Karnak's Dream Of Life: this song sets a perfect tone to what we'll be hearing and the vibe we should expect of the show itself, the first half of it starts with an organ playing music you'd expect from a funeral or some other sad event because the play starts with the children already being dead from the roller coaster accident, my guess is that it's music from the children's funeral(s) (the S being in parentheses because the children could've had their own separate funerals or one big one it's never clarified as far as I've heard) anyway then it goes into a music box kind of tune that's more hopeful and classical in a way with some sort of string instrument, if you know please tell me, this gives it Danny Elfman vibes (if you don't know who that is he is most commonly known for writing the music of Nightmare Before Christmas, Beetlejuice, Corpse Bride, along with many other movies). Then we here a women's voice singing saying:
"I know this dream of life is never-ending
It goes around and round and round again
You know the sun is rising while descending
It goes on and on and never ends~"
This could be possible foreshadowing (again this is a guess since I've yet to finish listening to the full show) to how the kids all had dreams but could never fulfill those dreams ("I know this dream of life is never-ending, it goes around and round and round again") to then saying that they all will never be able to fulfill those dreams, hence the metaphor of the sun rising while descending, saying that they all have hope (sun rising) but at the same time feel they can never get those dreams because of them being trapped in Uranium (the sun descending, I'll get more on that in a bit) and the last line meaning the kids feel like it'll take forever to get their dreams but they want them now
OKAY NEXT "SONG" (song in quotations because it's more of a monologue than a song) Welcome...
We get introduced to the Karnak, this is more comedic than really lore-based but worth mentioning because it makes me laugh every time because it's brutally honest in a really funny way. Seriously, if you've yet to listen to this on Spotify, do because it's worth it every time I hear it.
Now for the point of this post, the song "The Uranium Suite"
It starts with our main 5 singing about their town as a tribute. For a hot second I want to talk about how the lead sings individually, she sings very brightly. If you're not in choir this means singing like you would hear in very modern pop, that children's choir sound. This fits her character because she's very happy go-lucky, looking on the bright side and it's amazing how they showed that through this song alone. Apart from that the line of "we will never leave this town at all" is very important in this analysis.
After they do their bit the Karnak comes back, telling us that he saw how the children die, how they died, when and what time, they're dreams, etc. I saw a few clips of the show. I found that as he says this, the main 5 do some background acting of riding The Cyclone and as he talks about how they die, they do exactly as he says and show it. Like when he gets to the part of the coaster falling, the main 5 crescendo through their "ah's" and spread apart like they're falling off the ride, which story-wise is exactly what they're doing.
Then we get to my favourite part of this opener. Them singing:
"and then you're sailing through space
You don't know up from down
And you feel a little strange
The moment spinning round
And everything you loved
And everything you dreamed
And everything you feared
And everything that seems so
Oh so terrifying
It's far behind on the ground
Like I fall from this silly little itty bitty pretty hometown
Just a teeny tiny dot
On a wee blue ball
And we've all been spinning
All been spinning..."
Stopping there for a second to talk about the characters and why they sing this. Clearly it's because they're falling and their describing it. Along with that it shows that they're hopeless, desperate, and overall scared, kind of an eerie vibe to it before getting into their individual parts. Honestly I don't think there's more to that, the real part I want to talk about is when the trial song their part and the boys sing theirs. It goes like this:
"girls: empty space of empty shops
Shattered walls of mom and pops
Welcome to the Mega shopping mall (no idea if that's what they say, it's hard to hear over the guys)"
The girls sing this while the boys in the back sing "Uranium" about 4 times, each time being stretched like "uraaaaaaaaaanium" anyway this shows the children character of being hopeful and kind of more right-brained. They're looking over the town as they soar above it while falling. It shows they're character more and adds to them being more optimistic than the rest. This could also represent them all putting up a front on how much they love their town, to which as I type this I believe that's what it is. Then the guys sing this while girl switch to the uranium part:
"Boys: smart ones all packed up and went
Why stay if you can't pay the rent?
We will never leave this town at all"
This shows them all to be a little more pessimistic, only noticing the flaws of their town and how run down the town is and how they never truly liked it. The line "we will never leave this town at all" shows how they feel they will never amount to anything outside Uranium. then they go back to their front of loving the town:
"drink some brew, join the choir
Build yourself a funeral fire
Uranium our dead and dive
We'll never leave this town alive
No, we will never leave
This
Town
At
All
Genie: greeting children, it's time to play
Children: earth is sky, the sky is ground
Did we finally leave our town?"
Woo boy just a little more to unpack in that last part. The first 2 lines are that front of them loving their town before they emphasize them never leaving their town. The Karnak appears and the children meet him before they sing, "did we finally leave our town" that last line is whispered to each other and the word finally just adds to them wanting to leave otherwise the word finally wouldn't be put in. I think I've emphasized that enough
Anyways those are my thoughts on it all. It's a very wonderful way to introduce the show and very different and it's very beautiful. It's slowly becoming one of my favourite musicals lmao.

(livebloggy) thoughts about the studio versions of eurovision 2023 songs on spotify (don't judge me). also if i say something has "energy" or "vibes" it is almost always neutral/positive.
aijā: the instrumental fooled me into thinking this would be far more upbeat and Quirky. then the melody came in and it's slower than my personal liking. uh, sir are you okay? i do like the strong pulse with subdivisions, i hope that's right terms. i like the ending "please don't wake up" (ig that's the bridge) and the stripped down ending (i do mean ending this time) in latvian.
dance (our own party): i liked it until the verse lyrics came on. AND I LOVE THE INSTRUMENTALS THOSE ARE REALLY BOPPING. the chorus is neat!!!! the verse seems like dichotomy. but not in the best way. idk. i'm really enjoying like the whole song aside from verse 1. apart from that section it's great! also i acknowledge that when i write in this post format my bitchiness and criticism grows three sizes so yk
who the hell is edgar?: is it cringy? MAYBE but it's fun OH THE CHANT DAMN. like the music, even though it's upbeat and electro, suits the vibe of possession and horror. even without the chant (though that was sick). which the last song was missing in the first verse. look. early favourite tbh. thanks austria! (the 'who the hell is edgar?' at the end took me out tho ngl)
breaking my heart: it's not bad. it's cute! it reminds me of something i would do warmups to in dance class!! (not a bad thing at all). the texture drop and tight harmonies is done really well. if you described this to me i'd probably expect to hate it but i'm vibing!
so far when i looked up which country each entry was from i wasn't super surprised. idk what that says but i'm saying it.
tattoo: i know this is loreen. thing is i didn't get the hype for euphoria so we'll see. it reminds me of something? oh it's kinda got greatest showman vibes in the chorus. not really in the verse but. also the pre-chorus does remind me a little of church music (like hillsong music). instrumental reminds me of the slow part of love is blind (lithuania 2012). i think people will probably really like this, i think it's mid.
because of you: i have listened to this one before, admittedly. just dance energy. again reminds me of warmups when i did dance as an extracurricular. the lyrics aren't for me, but if they're inspired by a real person, then that's cute for them!!! i just hope they don't make the staging really basic tbh
heart of steel: i like how it's going hard on the minor key. some villain energy. which i respect and endorse wholeheartedly. like it's chill, but evil, and i think that's what we all need to embody a little bit. also reminds me of 'don't get sad, get even' in vigilante shit. idk where i was expecting to come from, but this is very cool, ukraine!!
carpe diem: i like how it starts a lot, less how it builds. OOOO GUITAR OOOOO. i am a child, but that's besides the point.
d.g.t (on and off): i can't really describe it?? it's very rocking for such a slow song, i love the snapping and the rhythm. the high parts, less so, but it really depends on how it's performed. 6/8 my beloved. my beloved. mmmmmmm dynamic interest mmmmmmm. i am not one to wish different from the high notes but uh, not my fave part of the song rn (then again i generally prefer songs sung lower)
ai coração: OOOO THE PIANO RUN LIKE IN SHREK 2. it's so danceable but non in a generic edm way oh i am in love i love her voice ohohohohoh. thank you portugal this shall be in my top.
power: GIRL WHERE WAS THE INTRO. uh very hillsong. idk what to tell you it just gives strong christian music vibes at the start. the electro undertones minimises it but still. STILL. not even just the music the metaphors too.
stay: it's too slow for my liking. it's not bad, it's just. that sort of song. parts of this are familiar, from other eurovision songs. the chorus gives very 'we are the world! world peace!' energy. not my favourite, but if you like it, i'm happy for you!!
eaea: i have listened to this before!!! i think it's neat!!! the vibes are immaculate!!! thank you spain!!! (don't love it as much as slomo but that was the top of my spotify wrapped so yk)
samo mi se spava: it's giving the 2005 dcom minutemen. no i will not elaborate.
blood and glitter: is this... rap rock?? contrast?? it's giving some form of campiness ig?? I LOVE IT. THE VARIETY. GERMANY?? damn nice work germany!!
we are one: it's a little to 'simple happiness' for my taste? but at least it's happy and uplifting!!! i don't love it but i respect it!! it does however remind me of the australian Classic 'for we are one but we are many, and from all the lands on earth we coMe'. i sang that song for like 4 years before knowing the lyrics. like damn i was really rather no thoughts head empty when i was 5. yeah ireland i'm not shocked.
cha cha cha: giving uno energy?? very high energy!! actually add this to a get psyched mix bc this slapsssssss. wooooooooo
mama šč: hey i don't get it i think it's doing A Lot!! but i'm really keen to the staging, and it's bopping
tell me more: it's very sweet and cute. like if it's this sort of slow song it can manipulate me. even if there's non-mischa bachinski rap (seeeee, rtc mutuals, i can slip the references in there!!!)
bridges: reminds me of a matter of time from 2018?? it feels very soft and a little angsty but not in the way i like?? the lyrics, while so valid, aren't what i wanna listen to to live my best life yk?
break a broken heart: ooooo i love the rhythm of this one!! dare i say believer vibes? also the disney channel movie zombies? i know this sounds bad but i'm genuinely thoroughly enjoying it!!! vibes king
what they say: it's sad deep in a way that doesn't particularly mesh with me, unfortunately. although 'i got too much on my plate' eyo same man
evidemment: feels very epic and very french. OH A DANCE BEAT OH. we're vibing now perry the platypus!
solo: it's very upbeat beach vibes. look i just really like it. it's so slay girlboss, you know???
i wrote a song: hmmmmm at least someone's taking alexander rybak's advice!!! not my personal cup of tea musically (not much melodic interest and too staccato for me) or lyrically (since i'm translating catullus, i'm not in the mood for scorned lovers who decide to write verses about how they're getting their revenge. but i don't dislike this artist!! i do hate catullus)
soarele si luna: PASHA PARFENI!!!!! i'm really enjoying this one!!!! (not as much as his 2012 entry, but i had 11 years to fall in love with that one, it'll take time, and they're very different)
due vite: not my thing, and that's okay!!
watergun: it's not my kind of ballad, i hope this person is okay!!
duje: i love the strong pulse with the native language and the violin runs and how it says hyped!!!
my sister's crown: women supporting women. i'm not the biggest fan of the english lyrics or the melody in the verse BUT THE CHORUS SLAPS like majorly so. i don't love the soft ethereal it gets in the english chorus but when it changes languages i do. i think this is a hint that i don't love music in english as much
COMPARE THE MEERKAT AD WOOOOOOOOOO I FUCKING LOVE COMPARE THE MEERKAT (it's a real website you can go to btw)
promise: my country :) i've listened to this one already. i find it rather repetitive in the verses (particularly the first one), the music is fine!! certainly not my least favourite of our entries!!! i really like the music in "cross my heart til the sun turns red in the sunrise" (possibly aided by the brevity of it) and also when they absolutely fucking rock out in the instrumental
burning daylight: i personally don't love it, it reminds me of like 2013 indie stuff. also, to be nitpicky, there's one specific lyric that is the sorta thing that i know pisses me off so. yeah. didn't Help.
queen of kings: yeah this one was an early favourite of mine i've already listened to it. it just musically gives me dark fantasy vibes and energises me, you know?? very disappointed the studio version doesn't include the italian and latin chanting, but it's still like a great song to run to (i don't run). i was a little concerned about if she'd be able to pull of the vocals live (based only on the studio version) but when i watched her melodi grand prix version she fucking slayed
unicorn: i love the epic intro, it was kinda too much of a drop for me when the singer came in. pre-chorus feels a bit basic (***for my tastes) or is it the chorus idk but it reminds me of the circus climax of madagascar 3. the phenonamal part is a bop, and i really do like the ending part!!! the first half just wasn't my taste as much (aside from that beginning instrumentation)
if it's not on spotify, i wasn't bothered to listen to it (but ofc i will eventually!!). honestly this feels like a pretty good year (to meeeee) but not the highest quality ballads/slow songs (i know there's a difference, but for the sake of eurovision, no there's not)

i got tagged in this like a week ago (ty mary) and then fully forgot to do it which i guess is on brand but better late than never
the last song you listened to manchester orchestra - i know how to speak i've been listening to it so much because it's on the playlist of something i'm currently writing, but i honestly never get tired of it.
a song you recently discovered uh huh her - common reaction thank you to spotify datamining for determining that i would enjoy this. i do.
a song you recently rediscovered k.d. lang - after the gold rush i love the original by neil young too but i think this has always been my favourite cover. it's so wistful. my friends and i are doing the music league thing atm (a new playlist theme every week where everyone submits a song anonymously) and the last theme made me remember how much i used to listen to this on repeat. i didn't even end up submitting it, but i'm glad i remembered it. :')
a song you love by an artist you hate the mountain goats - ezekiel 7 and the permanent efficacy of grace i don't hate the mountain goats, i just don't particularly care for them. but i do love this song a lot. the lyrics are so good, and i love the heartbeat underlining the otherwise simple piano arrangement. definitely in my top list of songs that are about both murder and intimacy.
an instrumental song guilty ghosts - late night voyages this song's also been getting a lot of playtime lately because it's on the playlist for the thing i'm currently writing lol. it does perfectly fit the tone i'm going for i suppose.
the last song you loudly sang along to nothing but thieves - you know me too well the refrain is so satisfying to howl along to i'm ngl. i mean, the entire song is a bop from start to finish, too.
the last song to make you cry kathleen edwards - goodnight, california something something it's about the melancholy of wanting connection but being terrified of it at the same time, i guess? kathleen edwards is great anyway but this particular song has recently rly managed to reach into my chest and tug.
a song someone recommended to you saro - eyelids every now and then my friend issy will text me to be like "you should listen to this it's about your blorbos" and i do and without fail it absolutely is about my blorbos because she's got some sort of psychic link to my hindbrain. not just because i'm incredibly predictable. anyway, this song whips
a song you dance to when you're alone prefab sprout - the king of rock 'n' roll so cheesy. so good. also, "all my lazy teenage boasts / are now high precision ghosts / and they're coming round the track / to haunt me" is such a banger opening verse.
if you wanna do this then please go ahead and say i tagged you! i'd love to see everyone else's choices. the ones i'm not giving a choice are @aximili, @dominocity, @symdroids, @mahariels, @ossifer, @tesselatingtoads, and @nonagethimus

3, 19, 27 for AO3 wrapped please! 🫶
Thank you for asking! 😘
3. What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)?
Ooh from this year only? Probably the Max G/James rape fantasy fic palm split with a flower with a flame because it was so out of my comfort zone. I'm not very confident at writing kink but I was actually very happy with how it turned out and I enjoyed not going down the obvious route of the submissive partner being the one freaking out. The psychological aspect was so interesting to think about and map out.
19. What’s one pairing you want to explore next year?
So, annoyingly I find it hard to get inspired to write a pairing unless I'm insanely obsessed with them lol. So I'm not sure really. I'm feeling a little disillusioned about my writing in general atm (actually considered just orphaning the whole lot the other day) and while I still get kudos and comments pretty much daily (and really appreciate all of them!), the engagement is mainly on my older F1 fics that I feel quite distanced from (and don't think they're my best writing either a lot of the time).
So I guess I would like to write more F1 fic (galex appeals but I'm not sure I could bring anything new to the table) but it's mainly more for the engagement and fandom side of it rather than because I heavily ship anything. I do read F1 pairings - and tbh I'll read anything if it's well written, but there's nothing really making me go oh yes I have to write that. Whereas I do still enjoy writing the FE boys a lot.
Okay I'm rambling and haven't answered your question very well lol. Next year I would also like to try and do something with an original story that's been languishing in my drafts for ages so I should probably do some research for that.
27. What do you listen to while writing?
I actually really struggle to listen to music when I'm writing, I just find it very distracting. So a lot of the time I'll write in silence or sometimes I'll put on something instrumental (usually moody/ambient) or very chilled and have that on low in the background. There's a Spotify playlist called 'evening jazz and some wine' that I stick on occasionally when I'm writing because uhh I guess it helps to imagine I live in the Stahl house in the 1960s or some shit idk.
Also I definitely couldn't write with ear/headphones in but that's not really that much of a surprise as I don't listen to music when I'm out and about because I'd probably get hit by a car or something if I'm not paying attention to where I'm going.
So yeah, although I definitely take inspiration from music and almost always use lyrics for my fic titles, I don't actually listen to a lot.
