A lawsuit iust hit the maker of the Ain't Laurent Without Yves t-shirt, but what do tongue-in-cheek slogans say about our relationship to fashion today? With the news this week that Yves Saint Laurent was suing the brand behind the Tumblr-friendly Ain't Laurent Without Yves t-shirt, the spotlight returned to a particular trend that emerged over the last couple of years: the ironic fashion fake (IFF). Swapping letters in logos and turning big brand names into nonsense, these items punked high fashion by warping its codes into uncanny new forms - think Björk's famed 'Enjoy Cock' reimagined post-Instagram, and proliferated via a network of blogger regrams ...

3x02 "IFF"

Writing as I watch not going so well at the moment. Meaning, I'm still lagging behind our viewing.

New character: Kim Legaspi. Sorry, Anna Volovodov. Love her. Which I'm supposed to do, so not a huge surprise here. But also, I totally watched an entire season of ER for the Kerry Weaver / Kim Legaspi ship back in the days, so long time no (or barely any) see - good to have you back.

I'm in my 40s now and while I still think representation is vital, on a strictly personal basis it's not quite as important to me as it was 20 years ago. That being said, I still grinned like a madwoman when they introduced her family :D (I sure hope, they leave them the hell alone!)

Loved every single bit of the Bobbie and Chrisjen scenes. With special emphasis on this:

Bobbie: Keep clenching your thighs. Chrisjen: Oh, for the- If you're hitting on me, I'm flattered. But I have neither the inclination, nor [GASPS.]

And a bit later, she actually takes Bobbie's advice and starts whistling (or what passes for it) thereby performing a 100% accurate impersonation of my wife doing the same thing. We were laughing so hard we had to pause the episode. (For the sake of accuracy: They're not actually anything alike, it was just that very moment.)

Humor aside, Bobbie was being pretty badass there.

Holden on the other hand? So now that you've decided you need to go to Io because you care about Meng's kid after all, you won't even stop for a distress call. Ffs, get your shit together man.

Anyway, enjoyed the hell out of it!

Friendly reminder that some of why I call myself "bisexual" and not "pansexual" is that's just the 90s terminology I grew up with, but part of it is I understand "pan" as being like the "I understand trans women as completely equivalent to cis women" and that's not at all where I'm at

Back when I was just a straight man trans girls just did not register as eligible to me. I was prepared to aver that I "had a cis fetish", also trans men didn't do anything for me either, even making the "misgender me with your dick" pitch

(From remembering Craigslist Casual Encounters, I actually took "pretend I'm a girl and give me your load" as a pretty authentic gay male thing)

But then Covid got into my brain; that personality was destroyed and the new one's bi. And suddenly, trans men and women are registering as eligible.

So from this I can only conclude that whatever sexual IFF was reading both as some combination of man and woman.

And now, those are both eligible so all good.
