as a chinese person myself, something about the way sabine is portrayed kinda icks me abit. it’s all little little details so like, i’m just complaining my ass off

sabine’s cheongsam is right over left, which is not, it’s not accurate at all. it’s traditionally “右衽” (youren, left over right method), because “生右死左”, right represents life, while left represents death (related to how 阴yin阳yang is left and right). its a bit confusing, but basically sabine is dressing like how a corpse would.

okay sure, you could argue that it’s not a hanfu, and that “the traditional way doesn’t apply anymore”, but the concept still applies. to cheongsams. and isn’t sabine said to be very well connected to her chinese roots? like she should know this.

plus i could go into how ugly the cheongsam is and how it looks like cloth cut from an abstract art museum poster which is low key insulting to the embroidery art of chinese traditional outfits but 🤷‍♂️

okay then her as qilin. i don’t really know if it was intentional or if they just randomly pulled a chinese mythical creature that sounded cool, but they really butchered the representation of it nonetheless.

麒麟 qilin symbolises fortune and prosperity, and is super prominent in feng shui, so the choice of her villain design being the qilin makes little sense. what would make sense for her to be, is the 獬豸xiezhi, a goat looking creature which is a symbol of justice, known for piercing corrupt officials with its horn. this fits into the context of the episode, right? with the two mfs abusing their power and all.

in the wiki, it’s said that the outfit is of chinese armour. but how? what? this is what chinese armour looks like. i see some attempt? i guess? but this is not really important.

what’s more important is that why is her power wind????? when the qilin is commonly depicted with their bodies on fire with fire breathing abilities??? huh????? did astruc and the writers even did research into the designs?

ik the qilin is more popular but one google search would lead you to discover more chinese mythical creatures that fit her villain motive better. and the qilin is not one of them.

lastly, i feel like sabine’s entire character just screams: “hey look i’m chinese, being chinese is my only trait other than being the world’s most un-asian mom ever.”

yea she appears chinese, but she doesn’t *feel* chinese if you know what i mean. the stuff she does feels like surface level stereotypes about chinese people. turning red does it better, and that movie is mid.

there’s more to chinese culture than the obsession with feng shui, wearing cheongsams every day, eating dim sums, doing tai chi and other shit. and i agree that these are pretty prominent but… the way it’s portrayed makes it too clear that her actions are not written by a chinese person.

and her name. ik i’m whiny as hell but i don’t think any chinese person would give their child such a (lame) name. usually chinese people take much pride in their names, which are mostly related to values and traits. for example my own name is 懿捷, which means excellency and triumph. sabine’s name is 夏冰, meaning summer and ice. huh? if you’re a westerner and gave yourself this name, fine , it’s cool. but you’re telling me a china chinese person gave their child such a name? bullshit.

Ok we need to talk about this suit.

TLDR here: It kinda sucks. Here are my ideas to improve it:

1) Cover the hair, at least partially

2) Put the hood up, or just remove it if the hair is fully covered

3) Make the mask black

4) Add red webbing to the mask

5) Make the blue lines on the torso thinner and double the amount of them

6) Give the torse the colour of the black and red suit style

7) Connect the blue lines on the legs to the torse ones

8) Recolour the Adidas for the love of God

It's another outlandish Insomniac endgame suit. I personally like Anti-ock but ik it's not the best Spider-man design. In Spider-man 2 (which I haven't played yet I just do not care about spoilers) I thought they'd actually improved with Peter's Anti-venom suit. It's objectively a good suit, an original idea and a cool design. And just like the Anti-ock suit, we see it's creation and it's background and all of the steps and reasons for it's creation.

Then Miles just lands next to Peter in this flaming mess.

Like, I don't hate it because I'm not the kind of person that hates media really. But it's the closest thing I'll tell you that. It suffers from over-design, I don't even think MCU suits are over-designed so me admitting that this suit is shows you how bad it is.

We're gonna start from the top; the hair. Now Miles's hair out on his suit can work, and I get that he wants to show off his snazzy new haircut - but not like this. Its so out of place with the rest of the costume. His hair out can look good, as one of my favourite suits in the game and the only good deluxe edition suit imo is this:

The hair is dyed to match the suit's colours and with the hood it makes it not so overpowering. The worst thing is the Evolved suit has a hood, and it's just there. The hood looks like a hoodie, but it's fully a part of the spandex costume to??? Like what??

Next: the mask. Why did they get rid of the face webbing? That's one of the major defining features of a Spider-man costume. All the good ones have some form of it or at least a few lines to signify it. Here: nothing. Just this weirdly itchy-looking mesh-like grey. It's just bland and makes the rest of the suit looks worse.

The torse looks extreme but next to the blank mask it looks even worse. The blue lines are cool, but it's really hard to unsee them are being 4 legs for the spider logo. It's supposed to be their outlines as the legs but I have to force myself to see it. Other than that it's probably the least terrible section of the suit.

The legs are fine really, I don't like that the blue lines on the side just start randomly and don't connect to the other ones at all even though the rest are all connected to each other. I've heard people say that it suffers from the whole thing of Insomniac just never detailing legs, which is true they do do that.. for Peter. Miles has always had just plain black legs, in fact this suit gives more detail to the legs.

And the shoes. They're another thing that clashes to go along with the hair and mask. I did find it kind of weird that people hated him wearing these shoes. They're not bad shoes, and people loved when Miles wore Jordans in Spider-verse. But that's what I was saying before Adidas started selling the whole suit for about $400 total. That, combined with the fact that the shoes also will not change depending on the suit style and the fact that the only real store in the entire game is a high definition Adidas store is just... yikes.

And finally, the reason for it existing:

None, there's nothing. It has no reason. Miles just appears wearing it. And his reason is because he wanted his own original suit. Was he not there when he made his own suit in Spider-Man: Miles Morales? The one that actually looked good? And its not even original it literally has a Peter colour scheme. The red, blue and white being the main colours?

So that's Miles's new suit; a loud and ugly design, with each component painfully clashing with each other, no rhyme or reason for it's existing other than "to be orginal" even though it looks like every deviantart spider-sona in existence. And the cherry on top its a walking advertisement for a clothing brand. Bruh.

And now it may actually be Miles's permanent suit going forward?! It's the only endgame suit that wasn't taken off when the evil was defeated. Ig Peter can't really take off Anti-Venom but he's retired now.

I'm still gonna play Spider-man 2 when it drops on PC. And tbh this is the only thing I think is bad and its an optional cosmetic. That's pretty good going Insomniac.

classic velma (several series and movies) - literally ushered in a new age of feminism. there weren’t many women on television that were styled like velma before velma. literally NOTHING bad can be said about this look and that’s why her look hasn’t changed as often as fred and daphne’s 10/10

a pup named scooby doo velma - i watched my first pup episodes today and i literally almost teared up several times from how genuinely fucking adorable this velma is. she’s so goddamn SMALL and canonically partially nonverbal and her friends respect her so much. this is probably my favorite velma of all time. ∞/10

what’s new scooby doo velma - her outfit doesn’t change here from classic velma, but her hair’s a different color and is a bit messier, so i’ve listed her separately for this list. i like the added dimension the messy hair adds to this velma: makes it seem like she’s stayed up until 4am on a wikipedia deep dive. very in character but i like her og hair color better so 9/10

mystery incorporated velma - a lot of people don’t like the bows but tbh i’m a fan for some reason. couldn’t explain why. this also gives us a shorter-sleeved sweater instead of one without rolled up sleeves which is something i just noticed. canonically gay but still gets a lot of in-universe comments about how ugly she is which is just not true and it makes me sad 8/10

scoob! velma - points added for canon latina velma but points taken away for gina rodriguez 5/10

be cools cooby doo velma - you are all SO MEAN to this velma because 1. she’s from be cool 2. she’s one of the first (if not the first) to be voiced by kate micucci and that’s just completely not fair. you all just miss mindy cohn and none of that is kate’s fault she’s just doing the best she can. and this velma is cute as hell anyway im always a fan when characters with glasses just have dots for eyes 10/10

linda cardellini velma pre-possession (scooby doo 2002) - like the icon she’s modeled after, she ushered in a new wave of feminism, this time lesbian-oriented. 100000/10

linda cardellini velma post-possession (scooby doo 2002) - i just don’t like the flippy swoosh hair on velma sorry. this entire outfit choice was the result of an alien’s take on young adult culture and not anything velma picked for herself so 7/10

linda cardellini velma (monsters unleashed) - the wig’s worse and it’s a swoop neck sweater not a turtleneck but its still velma so 1000/10

linda cardellini makeover velma (monsters unleashed) - literally just realized in both 2000s LA movies velma gets a makeover to make her Hotter and i dont like that very much. anyway points given for being extremely attractive ig and points taken away for this being velma trying to impress a man 5/10

hayley kiyoko velma (the mystery begins & curse of the lake monster) - this velma is so much better than yall give her credit for. not only is lesbian jesus hayley kiyoko playing her, but there’s like... 0 het plot in her first movie. it’s all in the 2nd one. and ms kiyoko is giving us an absolute master class in acting. a couple points deducted for the shelma in lake monster but this velma is still extremely good regardless 8/10

sarah gilman velma (daphne and velma) - terf bangs dinkley. really though she’s not THAT bad the only bad part of this velma is her wig and the actress’s FEW awkward acting moments. you guys just hate things made by women for women and girls 8/10

scooby apocalypse velma - ik shelma happens in this series and i haven’t finished it yet but this is still god tier velma. she’s extremely small you just can’t see it in this pic and she’s got an arc fitting to the series’ dark tone where she’s the one who started the apocalypse in the first place iirc and it’s extremely good. 100000/10

Another monster hunter rant/essay

Look i do like monster hunter world but there are many disappointments in it. Or just kinda let downs. Like the soundtrack is okay, but idk i just think the previous games were SO much better in that respect. (Idk maybe im being nostalgic but i love esp 3u and everything before it)

I was excited to fight some of the old monsters just to hear their themes only to realize they were remixed...like teostra. Tbf it grew on me when i actually listened to it and i can enjoy it for its own merits now, but i do miss how the old themes were so short, sweet, + to the point wereas this remix (and a lot of world music) feels way more embellished. Like i love how the old themes(esp teos) jumped right into epic action.theres a lot more build up and suspense in the world soundtrack i find(i havent analyzed anything super deeply these r just some thoughts)

Which would be cool-and kinda can be -like i rlly enjoy the theme for uhh Rotten Vale? I think its called. But some of them just dont end up delivering the same intensity u expect ig. And ur left feeling a bit dissapointed.

And the armor and weapons and skills. But esp the armor and weapons dissapointed me. Theyre all super ugly amd generic looking armors. (And weapons but to a slightly lesser degree)

Like i miss the super campy and generally pretty impractical designs man...

And usually the woman hunter always at least had better armor than the dudes but man, even in world the chick gets lame armor too 😞

On another unrelated note tho theres some old monsters id LOVE to fight in world or just fight AGAIN becasue its been a while since they were in a game. Like barioth or gigginox. Like ik giggi was annoying but i always thought it was cool. Id love an updated version of it.(also its not worse than khezu and they always add khezu) and ig same for barioth but like. Snow saber cat-wyvern...

(K but ofc id love to fight classics like zinogre, narga ,and brachydios, even theyre subspecies its just they have been in most games since their creation)

Also some epic elder dragons battles woulda been nice. i feel like world couldve potentially delivered or upgraded some cool concepts like the ship battle with jhen and d’ahren moraan, or the dalamadur battle(basicly a battle with an elder dragon the size of a mountain) but most of the elder dragon battles in the game werent that memerable. Zorah magdoras was kinda lame and the final Xeno’jiva kinda was too. The ONLY good thing about that battle was probably that Xeno was pretty big, i love fighting giant elder dragons-but not much else tbh.

Hell i remebe people saying how lame dire miralis and alatreon from 3 were but to me they were still better. u know its bad when i start feeling underwater combat was more exciting than Xeno’jiva (which tbh i feel underwater was a super cool concept and that it could be made better and less frustrating) okay even as tedious as ceadeus was at least again he had a gimmick(underwater-plus come on a GIANt underwater whale was at least cool conceptually)

Honestly idr much from 4 either besides the returning elder dragons. Gogmazios? Idk. I rlly like shagaru magala tho id like to see him again+ updated would be pretty great. I played 4 a lot less than 3.

In fact i dont even think world had an ice biome which was dissapointing in itself.

Bayonetta Should Not Have Been in Smash Ever

The whole point of Bayonetta is that she whips out these crazy combos and super strong witch tricks to defeat her opponents. The only problem is...barely anyone else can do that because they’re not supposed to because it’s Smash Bros and not Street Fighter. There was no way to nerf Bayonetta without ruining her, and there was no way to keep the Bayonetta feel and style without her dominating the game.

Cloud Should Not Have Been in Smash Ever

He was too fast, he was too strong, he had a projectile. Sakurai specifically said he knew Ike had exactly these stats when Ike was added to Brawl in 2008. He intentionally left them out so as to not let Ike become too strong. But years later, Cloud strutted into Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/3DS with these same attributes anyway. He’s a lot more tame now, but how many Peaches had to die?

The Zelda Characters Got the Short End of the Stick

A game with 30 years of history does not deserve to be represented by three Links, two Zeldas, and one Ganondorf. It’s clear that the development team was banking on the games sticking to its Ocarina formula, which is why they tried so hard to keep all the designs from one game and didn’t introduce anyone who wasn’t a Triforce bearer. By the time they finally stumbled on the idea of giving characters designs from different games, they had run out of space for any newcomers specific to particular games in the series, and the potential for new characters had run out.

I’m aware that Zelda isn’t as popular in Japan as it is in the United States; however, seeing how big Super Smash Bros. and its audience is, I think its representation could be a little better than that.

If the devs over at Sora Ltd. played their cards right, our Fire Emblem lineup could have consisted of a balance of characters and assist trophies that could show off the most prominent aspects of the series. My idea is this:

I Am Singling Out Corrin Specifically

This pick feels like an impulse because of the fact that FE14 was new, but besides that, I (a salty Peach main and Bandana Dee fan) first thought the character was busted. Never before had we a character with such ridiculous range—I thought Shulk’s energy sword Sunday was pushing it. It looks like Corrin set a precedent, though, because tall, adult characters who can reach across the entire stage seem to be the norm nowadays.

The Mario Characters are Out of Character

I think it’s telling when you can’t convey the character of Mario properly. Mario in Smash rather quickly moved away from his friendly everyman balancedness to a very aggressive, very angery Man who apparently just beats the living daylights out of people as the Smash Ultimate music blares in the background. Mario in his games is so much more friendly, eccentric, comical, fun. Smash Mario is way too serious; he doesn’t even smile in his renders anymore. I know, it’s a fighting game; you have to be serious to some extent. I just find this a little odd considering, um...

Peach was pretty similar when she first came to Melee. But when Brawl came around, her headbutt was replaced with hearts, her explosions with hearts, her diplomatic walk with a ditzy skip—it’s all incredibly suspicious. I talked about this before, but I think Smash makes Peach look dumb. I feel like it tries too hard to appeal to the girl who couldn’t pick any of the boy characters because they were icky so she picked the prettiest, girliest girl and that’s Peach. Her character feels like it’s making a mockery of her. (I mean, who remembers the tea time? I remember the tea time.) Nearly all of the nuance in Peach’s character is gone; I like the Toads and it feels like she’s commanding an army, but she herself with the rainbows and the hearts...I don’t know. It makes me. Uncomfortable. Peach has displayed far more competence before; she’s a very intelligent individual, but in Smash it’s not showing.

If I thought Peach was bad, imagine how I feel about Daisy! They barely changed a couple of animations and visuals but no attributes. It feels cheap and lazy and even though she’s an echo fighter, other “clones” had at least a little more thought put into them. And no “Hi, I’m Daisy”??? Preposterous. I think it goes to show that you really can’t make a clone of Peach because her moveset is too unique, and tinkering with it makes it fall apart. I think this was a bad call.

Bowser Jr. seems fine. He’s just a kid with some toys and it shows. Bowser...can at least walk straight, nowadays. But...

Luigi Baby I’m So Sorry That a Ugly Ass Bitch Would Even Do That

So when Smash 64 came out in 1999, Luigi had had his own voice for 3 years. Smash had decided to take Mario’s voice clips and pitch them up instead. This didn’t change until Brawl.

Luigi is Mario’s taller, slippery-er, eccentric younger brother, and Smash played the eccentric up to 11. (I mean, who remembers the Negative Zone? I remember the Negative Zone.) The hip bumps? And the weird dances? And the being able to fall over and be so round that he can just roll back up? I’ve never seen him do that anywhere but Smash. I don’t know who that is with the green hat in Smash. But it’s not Luigi.

The great thing is that he plays like Luigi! But he sure doesn’t act like it. And neither does Mario. And Mario and Luigi don’t play off each other at all, either. They’re so awkward to put together in this game; it’s like an attack on the sibling family unit.

“We Made Up Lore About EarthBound Hoping No One Would Notice Also We Really Like Pollyanna and the First Eight Melodies and We Exclusively Reference Mother 1 But We Still Won’t Put Ninten in This Game”

Ness is supposed to have defensive and support PSI because he has the highest physical offensive stats—and the lowest IQ—in EarthBound. He can’t use PK Starstorm, or PK Fire, or PK Thunder. He can use PSI Shield and Brainshock and Paralysis and um, PSI Rockin, and though I don’t mind using Ness and Lucas as they are now, I still can’t help but notice how inaccuracy-laden all the EarthBound references were, and that a moveset focused around trapping an opponent to go in for the beat down intrigues me.

Listen, no one else in this game has made-up lore about how their friends taught them certain moves after the end of their game, and how they channeled their big finisher into smaller bursts of energy while taking on the friend’s (much weaker!) signature move as their Final Smash. You could probably explain the magic Zelda uses as they come in crystals anyone could theoretically use, but the framing that they use for Ness and Lucas? It’s pretty silly.

Okay, about Ninten...he doesn’t have to be in Smash. But what’s the point of saying “Mother (Series)” and then making this weird conglomerate of ideas that doesn’t actually get the point across? All three games communicate very different ideas, but hardly any of what’s in Smash portrays any of it very well.

Kirby and Jigglypuff

Okay so Jigglypuff was OD’ing in Melee. But insta-death shield break just doesn’t tell me you care about them!

Speaking of Caring About Kirby

I see y’all only putting Kirby’s Adventure and Kirby Super Star content in your game. Look, whoever made Kirby 64 and friends disappeared the same year Sakurai left HAL Laboratory. The new Kirby games acknowledge all of Kirby’s history, and they take many cues from Smash. Smash is a big game, but the least it could do was reciprocate some of that.

The Music Selection is Underwhelming Me So Far

And it’s not the sheer number; I think that’s incredible. My problem is many of the songs are remixes with multiple versions. There are multiple versions of Light Plane from Pilotwings, multiple versions of Magicant, multiple Ballads of the Goddess, a billion Mario Main Themes. There are so many different musicians arranging for these games; are they all sitting there thinking “I’ll do you one better!!” making the same songs again? Some series have one song being remixed over and over while the rest of the soundtrack is just ripped from the original and chucked into the game. Other songs are just weak, which I expect, but they’re just so...mild.

The original music in Smash Ultimate I think is also pretty weak. It’s the same problem Brawl ran into and the only difference is the Ultimate themes are better orchestrated. The arrangement became stale to me and I think it’s because the game is so big that it couldn’t tie itself together as neatly as Smash 64 could (although only one, maybe two people worked on Smash 64’s music).

ok i finaaallyy got my vampire dude to achieve his ltw/get highest position in his career, he’s still got ~55 days of young adulthood left its crazy. his gf (brigit hemlock) wants to be like a master mixologist or something and all she has to do is master mixology + own a bar, and she literally mastered mixology before she even moved in so that’s basically in the bag.

kinda funny kinda sad: im always writing about like toxic beauty standards or whatever on here (or idk at least i think about it sometimes) but i i haddd to give her some plastic surgery. she wasnt even that ugly but her face was originally just so cartoonish and strange looking. ik shes a townie but....still. and i want cute kids. i didn’t completely change every aspect of her face, i just made her eyes smaller/got rid of the default creepy smile. i even kept her outfits for the most part bc i can tell someone put effort into her, like they colour matched all three pieces of her formal outfit (i wont even lie its a sexy ass outfit too so i didn’t really wanna change it) and her workout clothes are so cute even if she never works out

anyway the very next day i moved him and his gf to moonlight falls cuz as much as i like the aesthetic of bridgeport, first of all it takes forever to get anywhere bc elevators take a million years, plus the cab+subway system is so shitty. at least with vampire running they aren’t ridiculously slow but when they’re tired they just walk and take like 3 hours to walk one block. second of all, its so buggy. errortrap catches an unroutable sim/sims not aging every night, and it removes like btwn 6000 - 10000 cars every night!??!? like WHAT!?!?! why so many???? there’s been the same townies since the very beginning of the game and its literally been..idk....40 in game days?? you guys should be dead by now???

i haven’t really played a moonlight falls town and originally i wanted to move them to sunset valley but i’ve played the shit out of that so i think i should try something else...and riverview doesn’t feel right for a vampire couple...(neither does sunset valley but i just like sunset valley lmao. im just so used to that layout and those townies). apparently ppl think moonlight falls is boring but i don’t really want to stress my laptop out so a lowkey kinda boring town is good. plus i can always put some more lots in myself if its too empty

idk how long i plan on playing this save but i’d like it to last. tbh originally i was planning on having my dude cheat with like 20 different people but ngl at some point i got tired of debauchery. it was around the point he was getting to a higher level in his career and i had him going to lounges or parties every night. its sims so ofc it wasn’t like mad men or anything but it was kind of a family friendly version of that. kinda glad i settled with brigit cuz she has fairly good traits for a townie, even if she did start off homeless...

Transformation opinions- again

Magic Winx to Onyrix.

Yet another opinionated post no one asked for, but I was in a Winx-y mood and watched all the transformations and I decided to write about it in a serious way. Before, I just ranted (oops), but I guess I’ve warmed up to some.

Magic Winx

Aesthetic: It is pretty basic, mostly because it is the very first fairy form (except for Roxy, obviously). I remember not liking Tecna’s, but now I love it. Mostly because it is so unique. I have not much to say. I’m just nostalgic.

The way you have to obtain it: It’s the first fairy form, it’s just there I guess.

Actual transformation: IK VLIEG WEG/IK VOEL/ENERGIE BEWEGEN/WIE HOUDT ME TEGEN?

Aka, the song of my childhood. I like this transformation. Every character has their own moment. Whereas I love all of them and their uniqueness, Musa dancing on that CD is the best.

Charmix

Aesthetic: It’s not much to talk about. It’s a gem and a bag, but I do like that they all fit the girls and their power, especially Flora’s rose bag and Musa’s music note.

The way you have to obtain it: GREAT! AMAZING! All these girls have to overcome something personal in order to become stronger. It can range from Flora admitting to herself that she likes Helia to Layla overcoming her fear of the dark.

Actual transformation: Very basic, but it’s an add-on.

(Other Charmix does not exist what are you talking about, it’s just Magic Winx)

Enchantix

Aesthetic: This is the moment where everything turns around. They leave behind the basic and they change it into something big. Big wings. Big aesthetics. This is also the case for the transformations that will follow.

And man, I love it. I love that it’s very elegant. The wings are great and unique, and the whole “fairy powder being made by the fluttering of the wings” is one of the best thing that has ever happened to these girls. I especially love Tecna’s, with the phi in her hair and the sort of tech accesoire on her costume. 

I also have a soft spot for Musa’s fairy powder bottle, since I love that these girls come from different backgrounds and Musa’s bottle is obviously inspired by Asia.

OH AND I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED THE SHOES or whatever they are called.

The way you have to obtain it: Just like Charmix, these girls have to earn it. They have to save someone from their home planet, which was more challenging for Bloom, but in my eyes, Earth shoud’ve counted as well.

Actual transformation: A huge shocker!

I mean, when I first saw it (I was 8?) I was shocked, since it’s so different from the previous two. Again, I love that they’re all unique and that they fit the girls’ powers.

And then we have the 3D version, which is without a doubt my favourite transformation, from Tecna’s green tech stuff to Musa’s music lines to Bloom’s fucking fire, I LOVE ALL OF IT. And the song is great!

Believix

Aesthetic: Maybe unpopular opinion, but I love the way Believix looks. It has something, I don’t know, more modern? Those boots, man.

There are obviosuly two huge changes colour-wise: Bloom shifts from blue and other blue tint to blue and mostly pink. Layla shifts from green to blue. Whereas I don’t mind Layla’s that much, I didn’t like Bloom getting all pink. 

The wings are wonderful and I like the gem stones on it.

The way you have to obtain it: Goodbye individual struggles. I like that they got it after making people believe in magic (Roxy, in this case), and that it’s used to make people believe, I miss the individuality.

Actual transformation: I like it. I have not much to say. Layla’s drops of water is my favourite of all and Musa dancing’s is great as well. OH AND I ALSO LOVE THE BEAT OF THIS SONG.

The 3D version is great as well, and whereas a part of me doesn’t like that everyone had to share the same shot, it did save time. Flora floating on a flower gets me every time.

Zoomix, Tracix, Speedix

Aesthetic: I don’t like Speedix. I adore Tracix. I have no strong feelings about Zoomix.

The way you have to obtain it: It’s basically a package deal with Believix.

Actual transformation: Just like Charmix, it’s an add-on.

Sophix

Aesthetic: I appreciate the green and the leaf-theme, but it’s a bit a hit or miss. I don’t like Bloom’s, Layla’s and Stella’s. I do like Flora’s, Tecna’s and Musa’s.

The way you have to obtain it: I barely remember it? They got it from some magical things to beat Diana, right?

The actual transformation: Very short and very soft.

Lovix

Aesthetic: Kind of the same as Sophix. Just as unnecessary as well, if I may say. I love Tecna’s. I like Musa’s and Layla’s. I don’t like Flora’s, Bloom’s, and Stella’s that much.

The way you have to obtain it: Basically the same as Sophix, but now they had to beat Aurora (that was her name, right? I thought she was beautiful)

The actual transformation: Very short and not as soft as Sophix, but it felt kind of sparkly because of the upbeat music.

Harmonix

Aesthetic: I really love Harmonix, especially Musa and Layla’s. I especially love their hairstyles. I even have their Harmonix dolls. Looking back on them, I don’t really get why, but I still think it is one of the better ones. I like the skirts and the wings. I like how everything flows.

Oh and look at that, Layla is back to green.

The way you have to obtain it: \(’_’)/

The actual transformation: The song starts off sounding really soothing and then BAM, HARMONIX! I don’t have much to say about Harmonix. I don’t dislike it, but I also don’t like it that much. It’s a bit meh.

Sirenix

Aesthetic: “Sirenix is the WORST” - me.

No but really. I don’t get this one. The high lights are weird (especially when they’re in the Infinite Ocean, then their hair is straight-up ugly). The wings look awful. Layla is back to blue whereas Flora has moved to green)

(Oh wait, Flora being more green started at Harmonix, woops). The texture of the tops is kind of weird and don’t even get me started on those leggins. I only like the arm accesoire, and it looks somewhat decent in 2D, but why?

This is also the beginning of the “Musa is the only one who looks decent/good” thing that Winx has been going on.

The way you have to obtain it:  \(O_O)/

Okay, sure, they still have a meaning, Apart from maybe Butterflix, all transformations have a meaning. Sirenix strenghtens them in the Infinite Ocean, but  \(O_O)/

The actual transformation: WINX DOES GYMNASTICS. 

Really, I am used to them moving around during transformations, some more elegant than others, but what the hell? Some of those positions and movements do not seem logical to me? Layla, being the athletic one, can pull them off, but the others?

3D is even worse than 2D. They try to keep the uniqueness for every fairy, which I appreciate, but overall I am not a fan. The only thing I adore it the song. I still listen to it.

Bloomix

Aesthetic: This is the one I learned to love, even though it took a while. Back when it happened, I guess I just wasn’t ready enough for this big of a change.

Do I love it? No, but I appreciate it. I only liked Musa’s from the start, but I like the space-y look they’ve got going on. Maybe you remember me ranting about it once, but now I’m like: “WHY THIS IS GREAT?” It’s unique, it’s something not many magical girl shows I’ve seen used. The gems are the ones Bloom gave them, and I also had to warm up to that.

Overall, I like it now.

The way you have to obtain it: Of course, Bloom is the special one. She gets to share her power, which is very noble and in character of her, but sometimes I can’t help but wonder why this had to happen in the first place.

The actual transformation: Decent song, and no strong feelings about it.

Mythix is next, right? I basically stopped watching after Bloomix. Yet, that doesn’t stop me from being overly opinionated.

Mythix

Aesthetic: Could’ve been worse. They never should’ve started the scepter thing, though.

The way you have to obtain it: WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY? Remember when Faragonda told the girls that Enchantix was the ultimate fairy form. Ah, the good ole days.

The actual transformation: One thing that 3D Sirenix has taught is that 3D just does not look good. Also, goodbye individuality. It was nice knowing you.

Butterflix

Aesthetic: I am so conflicted? On one hand I absolutely love it. I love the butterfly theme, I love the shoes and its elegance, I love the semi-transparant wings that aren’t overly huge.

On the other hand, there’s absolutely no diversity and uniqueness whatshowever. Maybe you’ve noticed it, but that was one of the things I loved the most about this show. The girls’ individuality is long gone by the time season 7 appears, and Butterflix is the first transformation that shows that. Mythix was already quite boring, uniqueness wise, but Butterflix takes it to a whole new level.

BUT I FUCKING LOVE THE DESIGN?

Then again, I stopped watching the show mid season 6, and I lost track of it begin season 7, so if there’s a reason, please enlighten me.

The actual transformation: THE. WORST.

I appreciated the simplicity, but then, we got A HUGE ASS LONG, CRINGY, DANCE SEQUENCE? My eyes start to bleed just thinking about it. Because of that, the whole “Wooooaaaah, woaaaaaah, Butterflix, woaaaaaah, woaaaaah, Butterflix” gets a bit tiring as well.

From all the actual transformations, this is my least favourite, mostly because of the tacky dancing.

Tynix

Aesthetics: I love pastels, but what the hell is up with the girls’ haircolours? At least, it’s not Sirenix 3D.

I like the crystal theme, but it is a bit overdone. Oh and lookie look at that, Layla has shifted to purple now. I looks good on her, but okay?

It’s too tacky for my liking, but it could’ve been a lot worse.

The way you have to obtain it: I just realised I honestly don’t know what the hell is happening.

The actual transformation: ???????

I really don’t get why they are being so sexy? Like, Musa looking into the camera like that? It was a bit like that during the Butterflix dance, but Tynix just makes me very uncomfortable? Am I the only one?

Dreamix

Aesthetic: It is not my kind of style, but I actually like it. The wings feel a bit out of place, looking like that, but hey, it’s Winx.

Bloom has an interesting colour scheme, which I really like. 

The way you have to obtain it: I love World of Winx. Winx season 5 to 7 has disappointed me so much, but WoW was a breath of fresh air. Same goes for Dreamix. It felt like I could leave behind the previous transformations (because after Believix, I stopped caring and started wondering “why?”).

Still no individual tasks, but alas. You can’t always get what you want.

The actual transformation: Meh? And they’re all doing weird poses?

Onyrix

Aesthetic: I had kind of hoped WoW would stick to Dreamix for the whole show and boy, was I wrong. Since the actual show presented us with 7 main transformations after the so-called final fairy form, I should’ve seen it coming. Since I love character design, I can imagine the creative team having a blast while designing these transformations, but I am kind of getting tired. I do not know what to say about Onyrix.

It’s not bad, but I don’t like it either. I do like the hairstyles and just like Bloomix, it’s new, but maybe I need more time to warm up to it. That’s what happened to Bloomix.

I mourn Bloom’s beautiful Dreamix colour scheme, but this colour isn’t quite bad. Colour-wise, Stella is the biggest surprise, since we’ve already seen Flora is green (although, this is a new and wonderful shade of green), and Layla in purple. But Stella has left her signature orange behind for the first time in thirteen years and boy, do I love it.

The way you have to obtain it: A bit unnecessary, if I may say so. 

The actual transformation: Same feelings like the ones I had for Dreamix.
