Happy Anniversary Little Caesars!
Little Caesars was established at 32594 Cherry Hill Rd.
May 8th 1959, in Garden City, Mi.
Tumblr media
Mike Ilitch played second base for the Tigers and a couple of other teams beginning in 1952.....thanks to a knee injury, he had to retire in 1955.
Tumblr media
Little Caesars' history says it all began as a love story in 1954, when Ilitch and Marian Bayoff were thrown together on a blind date by Mike's dad. Fortunately, they hit it off, and it was just a few months later when they married. The two of them pooled their life savings in order to open their own business: a pizza restaurant.
1962 Little Caesars first franchise opened in Warren, called “Little Caesars Pizza Treat”. This featured the “Little Caesar guy eating a slice of pizza” logo. From there, Little Caesars really began to branch out and became the fastest-growing pizza chain in America.
That single mom-and-pop pizza shop grew into the third largest pizza chain in the world with stores in more than 27 countries and territories worldwide, including in each of the 50 U.S. states.
The growth of Little Caesars helped Mike and Marian create other leading brands in the food, sports and entertainment industries.
The couple purchased the Detroit Red Wings in 1982. While the team was known as the Dead Wings at the time, Mike and Marian believed they were a sleeping giant and immediately took charge to turn the team around. By 1997, the Red Wings won their first Stanley Cup in 42 years, and they went on to win three more.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mike encouraged the Ford family to bring the Detroit Lions back to Detroit from the suburbs and build a new stadium right next door to the ballpark by relinquishing a portion of land to make way for the new stadium. The new football venue allowed Detroit to host the Super Bowl in 2006.
Today - true to Mike and Marian's vision for a bustling downtown area - the Ilitch organization is developing The District Detroit, a dynamic urban destination that provides a dense neighborhood experience featuring a variety of developments alongside Detroit's premier sports and entertainment venues. This includes the new highly innovative and state-of-the-art Little Caesars Arena, home of the Detroit Red Wings and Detroit Pistons, and the recipient of the 2018 Sports Facility of the Year award, presented by Sports Business Journal.
Throughout Mike’s life, he remained true to his hometown and was a zealous supporter of Detroit, working tirelessly to help it prosper and to bring pride to the city. In 1988, Mike and Marian purchased the neglected Fox Theatre and carefully restored it to its original 1928 splendor.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
One year later, they moved the Little Caesars world headquarters from the suburbs into the newly renovated Fox Office Center adjacent to the restored theatre. This was during a time when many businesses were fleeing the city.
Tumblr media
Mike displayed further commitment to the city he loved when he purchased the Detroit Tigers in 1992 and built a new state-of-the-art ballpark for the team. Remembering his early years as a minor league baseball player with the Tigers, he did everything in his power to make the fan experience at Comerica Park a memorable one.
Tumblr media
Mike and Marian believed passionately in giving back to the community. As the parents of children who played hockey, the couple wanted to provide other children the opportunity to play the sport as well. So, they established the Little Caesars Amateur Hockey Program in 1968, and it has provided opportunities for tens of thousands of youngsters to play the great game of hockey over the years. Hundreds have gone on to play at colleges, universities and in the National Hockey League.
Inspired by the story of a veteran returning to civilian life, Mike founded the Little Caesars Veterans Program in 2006. The program provides honorably discharged veterans with financial incentives and other support to help them open a Little Caesars franchise.
Since 2000, grants and giving from Marian and Mike, the Ilitch companies and its charitable affiliates have totaled $220 million. This includes Marian and Mike's personal gifts of nearly $50 million to Detroit's Wayne State University - $8 million to the Department of Surgery and $40 million to build a new home for the Mike Ilitch School of Business, prominently located on Woodward Avenue.

5x02 : Ballet (My POV)
Tumblr media
In her bedroom, with in the background the music All I Have To Do Is Dream by The Everly Brothers, June is remembering moments how she was abused by Serena. Before to stand up and to bury a gun in the garden. It is clear that she is not done.
Serena returns to Gilead, demanding the best for Fred’s funeral. In the trailer (in a deleted scene), Joseph says to Nick: Does not matter what she knows, it matters what she believes. It is true that she seems suspicious seeing them on the tarmac.
I really enjoy Lawrence’s humor: It is elegant yet brutal - I am just one Commander. Nick is on the rise. But he is still a puppy. There is only so much we can do.
June is always obsessed by her revenge. It recalls what Joseph said in S4E10: It will not be enough. Whatever happens to him if we get him, will not be enough for you.
She cannot talk with Luke or Moira, so she tries with Rita. Because she knows the Waterfords, she knows how it was in that house. “Sadly” for her, Rita wants to move on. She works on it since she is free. It is true that June does it awkwardly.
So June is alone with nobody to talk. It reminds me S1E06 when she comes to Nick’s flat. She needed to talk and Nick was there for her. She needed a safe space without to be judge and she always found it with Nick. In Canada, she has nobody.
If it is that Luke makes her feel guilty: You gotta be here. You gotta be right here. All right? Because I need you here and Nichole needs you here. You family needs you here. And if you are not … I do not know what is gonna happen June to us.
So Luke blames her. He made her feel guilty. Does not matter what she wants, what she needs. It is his concerns who matter and that is all. And it makes me crazy that not once does she put him in his place (in the whole f***ing season).
In S1E02, June says: It is forbidden for us (handmaids) to be alone with the Commanders. We are not concubines. We are two-legged wombs. So it is very curious that suddenly it is not a problem for Commander Putnam with Esther.
I love the interactions between Mark and Nick. Let it be the silent ones: At the Putnam house. Or this meeting on a deserted road. I wonder if this is really their first exchange. Because Tuello says: I was wondering if we would get to talk. This suggests that they had exchanges before but maybe through intermediaries.
I am glad to see Nick asking about June and Nichole. In the background, I love the music we have when Mark tells to Nick: But America can be a very forgiving place.
We have June at a ballet while Serena is at the Fred's funeral. The scenes are total opposite: The light vs the dark who remind us Swan Lake. Which is also a wink to S1E08, when Serena gives to June a music box with the music of the Swan Lake. June says: A girl trapped in a box. Which describes exactly her in her marriage!
However the music that we hear during the ballet / funeral is The Sleeping Beauty also a work composed by Piotr Ilitch Tchaïkovski. But the wink to this music will come later in the season. A beautiful and an unexpected wink. I loved it. ❤️
Bruce Miller says: Serena has choreographed the funeral. It makes her look powerful. She declares the war to June by putting Hannah in the center stage. But she also highlights Nick behind her during the procession. Is it a double threat?

Little Caesars Arena was going to change Detroit per the Ilitch Family, then it did nothing
This morning, I saw an article from Axios that discussed the 10th anniversary of Little Caesars Arena’s opening and how it has never hosted an NBA or NHL All-Star game. I found this interesting because I spent time in Detroit and remember how much the Ilitch family pushed for this new arena and surrounding developments. Back in 2014, the city of Detroit was debating what to do with the old arena…

30 years under the Ilitch family: Looking back on the Tigers’ successes, failures
30 years under the Ilitch family: Looking back on the Tigers’ successes, failures
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The Detroit Tigers are synonymous with baseball in Michigan. For more than a century, the Motor City Kitties have held the state’s attention, giving kids and adults alike heroes to admire, cheer for and claim as their own. The team and the game have changed a lot over the years, but so many traditions have stayed the same. Gone are the days of the tripleheader and the…

OTHER PERSONAL INFO:
Having not birthed children of her own, Aunt Masha raised her nephews by marriage, Yakovlev and Sophia, as her children.
Is the fifth generation of a family of competent midwives.
Was raised to be a devout christian, and always believed that faith in something divine and bigger than humanity gaved sense to life, wich is why, when the revolution camed, she initially prefered the mensheviks (whites) who mostly were god believers, and because was frustratred when her nephew and niece chosed the bolsheviks (reds), becoming atheists in the proccess. Aunt Masha later camed to say she didn’t liked the mensheviks anymore, because of learning that if they continued in power, then laws prohibiting her nephew Yakovlev of marrying Rebeca (a jewish lady, who Aunt Masha loves as her own daughter) would still exist. But she still keeps trying, and failling, to convince her nephews to believe in God, usually asking for Rebeca’s support in the matter. There is something she can tank the bolsheviks tough: making Russia get rid of the Tzar, whom she hated for constantly making wars that tooked the lives of her husband and brother-in-law.
In her devotion to God, Aunt Masha takes her own interpretations of the Bible. Once she declared her belief that, if Adam and Eve didn’t becamed ashamed of their nudity, then there would be no original sin. Nudity becamed a sin only because they saw it as one. The priest of the church she frequents was not amused to say the least. He only didn’t excomunicated her because she sends a very good bread to the church. Thankfully, the priest doesn’t know that Aunt Masha is a admitely too lazy to enjoy cooking, and sayed bread is actually made by a neighbour of her...
Speaking of nudity, if an artists asks Aunt Masha to pose nude for a painting, she will accept, and even says that the artist has complete freedom to take the picture for the museum, because in her words: “What is beautifull is to be shown”.
When Rebeca and her sisters losted their father, during the funeral, even tough they were not jewish, Aunt Masha and her niece Sophia offered to follow the tradition of cutting a side of their clothes as a sign of grief, even tough they were not jewish. “The Good Rabbi sayed that all woman in the family must tear their clothes. And, since you are married to my nephew, we are family”. Was what Aunt Masha sayed.
Was accepting of her niece Sophia and her apprentice Lilia coming out to the family as girlfriends, only asking then to be carefull in the street, to avoid violent atacks.
Loves to sing and play the gusli.

What are your thoughts on Detroit Sports Rag? Tbh the dude seems a little unhinged at times (and his humour in early posts was definitely not the most appropriate) but if you look at his posts from the first half of the 2010s it's almost scary how accurately he foreshadowed the current state of the Wings based on his "insider info" and I'm surprised that it hasn't gained too much traction over here. But he also has steaming hot ☕️ on why 91 actually left 👀 If it's true, fuck the Ilitches lol
DSR anon again - they also have a lot of 90s/early 00s Red Wings tidbits that aren’t talked about a lot in the Detroit sports media. I’ve lived all over the metro area and from where I’ve resided + extracurriculars I’ve done I know for a fact that the Ilitch family rules them with an iron fist. It’s why you see all the journalists writing articles with almost the exact same wording and never questioning ownership/management which is why I thought you’d be interested!
I’ve read a few of the things he’s written, but I am not a fan in general. The writing style just emanates “I punch my bedroom wall” energy and as much as some of what he says is interesting, he just does seem like another slightly too invested sports fan who maybe needs to learn how to deal with anger a little better.
As for the ‘why Sergei left’ stuff though, I think what he said was right. In this interview (Russian, but the auto-translate captions are surprisingly accurate for the section I’ve linked, in case you want to watch it) from last year, he basically says that ownership wouldn’t play fair when giving him an offer so he said ‘fuck it, if you guys don’t want me here, I’m out,’ which lines up with what was said in that article, so 🤷🏻‍♀️
I didn’t know that about the Ilitches re: media, but I guess it makes sense with just... the way that they are in general lmao.
