yeah i wasn’t kidding when i said these would be coming soon. <- haha funny joke marshall. so!! remember when i said that this post would be coming out last weekend? guess whose tablet broke a few days after saying that! so sorry for the delay!! this is long overdue. here’s a link to the drive, as always! everything in this part of the update should be in the miscellaneous folder (outside of the menu icons, which are in the menu folder. wauaua).

so! all of this was already done by the time i posted the enemies. the delay isn’t *entirely* because of the tablet issues, i just managed to get distracted by making: even more redraws! i’d say new update soon but after what happened last time i shouldn’t jinx myself. but! almost All of the art for the initial mod release is done!!!! exciting!!!!!!

please be nice to me (silly) this is my first time doing frame by frame animation in… give or take 5 years? i followed the original animations pretty closely, so they don’t look Awful but i am Aware of the jank. i’m not an animator!!! they’re Good Enough for my purposes.

hey did you know that the original teleport map is slightly off center. did you know that. that’s not the case for the redraw for the record but it did make things a little harder. despite that, i think you can tell i was having fun with the dormont part of the map. i would’ve put more detail into the house, but we never really get a more detailed look at it??? and i didn’t want to make assumptions. so that part’s just traced from the original 👍. anyways shoutout to the clocktower being Curved for whatever reason

outside of those, all of the added art is actually just spritework. i didn’t know this at first, but there’s a TON of copies of sprites from the icon set. Basically Everywhere. so those are added now! and should work properly! also added a few sprites that were Missing from my original batch. not going to put them all here, but a few Important ones (which i actually had to make new art for) are the rock paper scissors cheatsheet, the Larger versions of the craft signs (used in the calamité fight and. probably somewhere else idk), and the craft signs for the tutorial kid fight!

aaaand i think that’s it! for stuff from this update. yeah no there’s more coming buddy. my tablet already broke one time this week there’s no way it’s happening twice. i’m not working on portraits Just Yet (though the temptation has been There), but i’ve got the title screens, a few backgrounds, and the ending cgs done! along with a few other assorted cgs sketched out. because im out of my fucking mind. so, uh, see you soon!! enjoy!!

On top of everything else that's happened in the last month or so

(girlfriend breaking up with me / me running off in the night w the friend I was supposed to be maid of honor with bc her (now ex) fiance came home drunk and scared us, while ofc we also both were in swimsuits and had like NO money or even shoes due to incredibly poor timing / Getting stuck in Dallas for TWO MONTHS longer than I meant to be due to bullshit work transfer systems (and admitedly my own inability to remember that deadlines exist) / that same friend going BACK to her shit boyfriend alone to a city 4 hours away from anyone she may call for help if things go wrong / me now no longer having a place in dallas to stay for these next 2 months bc I was SUPPOSED to stay with that friend but her bastard boyfriend doesn't want me in his house anymore bc he knows I'd tell his girlfriend to dump his ass)

I have now lost my fucking house keys.

Anyways I may or may not be way less active for a bit so this is the formal apology and explanation for that. Sorry guys, we are NOT going back to ur normally scheduled rapid fire ninja content as promised for like. A minute. Possibly. We'll see. Sometimes my own motivation wave surprises me.

so this story takes place on a rather isolated mining planetoid named Melien, under the jurisdiction of an offworld company, Unilacht Co. Excavation Division, hailing from a planet inhabited by sentient robots called mechala. Due to [circumstances kept vague to uninformed personnel], this branch of Unilacht operations has also been tasked with the mission to build a substantial army--using whatever means necessary.

However, the reclusiveness and secrecy of the Unilacht Co. Excavation Division's overseers has frustrated a good amount of their personnel. Currently a substantial number of their mechanicized soldiers and personnel have joined a rebellion effort started by the former Unilachti Command Administrator (who has since been recaptured, but the movement continues in his absence).

Enceladus, Maltrion, and Meo were all part of the same defection cohort (joined the rebellion at the same time). Virion joined them a bit later under some interesting circumstances. All of them are not fond of the Unilacht for vastly different reasons, but all have their own deeply personal reasons to resist the rule of the Unilacht.

So,

I'm currently working on the SlaveTale re-write currently called in my files as "Shifting Ocean" and im trying to put more backing behind the main character's history as an Aggressive Protestor, which i touched on very lightly in the original ST story (and i mean VERY lightly, i never really went into it because I didn't think the mc there would ever really want to bring those days back up considering they were a protestor for Monster Rights and the whole thing failed... spectacularly)

Anyway, my point is: im fleshing out that a bit more in th re-write's characterization, and in addition to their past involvement with monster rights and monster laws protests in the *past* I want to have a like, secondary protest-like conflict in the story. just an additional conflict for the MC to have to like, demonstrate some key themes...

My problem is I want to avoid "Dating" the story- so avoiding real conflicts, like real-world war protest efforts such as Ukraine or Palestine; especially since fiction and fan fiction are usually escapism methods and bringing that kind of intense stuff into a story that is demonstrably about a fictional peoples (monsters) treatment and lack of rights seems disingenuous, potentially stressful, maybe even disrespectful to those in the actual crisis involved...

Now all that said, im considering inventing some sort of ficitional issue that would insight violent protesting and agressive action the way issues like that cause. I have two concerns.

The first is whether that is more disrespectful (to ignore real-world conflicts and instead invent fictional conflicts for the sake of comfort for the readers and, yeah, probably for me the writer too. as it would probably be more comfortable for me to write a fictional conflict as I wouldnt have to worry about making a potentially critical mistake on such an important topic)

The second is that im just looking for ideas on that particular invention. Again, my point is to not Date the story with a real world issue, and to avoid painful parallels to such modern day problems for people who are likely looking for escapism from said concepts. So if someone has a suggestion- for inventing the conflict, or maybe an existing historic conflict that doesnt bear a lot of weight in the modern atmosphere that could be paralleled? (I have briefly considered modeling a conflict around the Vietnam war, or maybe researching how other conflicts went?)

Anyway, depending on the timeline of the conflict i use / invent, interesting concepts for those who might be waiting for the Shifting Ocean to start posting: Main Character maybe takes the skelebros to a fucking Peace Rally. that'd be a fun chapter.

My thoughts: Adding the Lego characters and Panda Amy feels so random lol. I’m intrigued about that Infinite alt tho, honestly thought he was gonna be the mummy and not Knuckles. Another character from IDW Sonic is pretty cool, makes sense it’s Surge, cause of her electric powers.
