Simon knew Soap since childhood, they were bffs, actually. Soap would always bandage Simon after his father beat him, or feed him when he gets no food. Most importantly, Soap cared for Tommy too- always letting the two abused brothers rant- always finding ways to comfort them and make them smile. Soap could never go to Simon’s house, Simon was afraid Soap would get hit too- but regardless, Soap always offers Simon and Tommy his own house as a second home for them. He never asked for any of this to be repaid. He was a saint in Simon’s eyes.

…So it hurt more than any cut and bruise Simon has gotten from his father when Soap had to move. That night when Soap had to go Simon cried, not because he’ll miss the treatment he gets from Soap, but Soap himself. He thought he’d never see his only best friend ever again. But he was wrong.

…

Soap and Ghost meet again when they crossed paths once more in the 141. Ghost immediately recognized Soap- he never forgot him. Soap had the same hair, same everything really. Just a bigger size with a even bigger heart. Soap didn’t change much, but Simon changed too much.

Simon was Ghost now. A big scary boy in a skull mask who people think he couldn’t feel. A killing machine who offers no mercy. A man who’s relationship with Soap is back to square one.

Ghost wondered if Soap would remember him, its been fucking years. Wouldn’t be a surprise if Soap forget about him- with such a open personality it wouldn’t be hard to picture Soap with a lot of friends when he moved on from Simon. (Did he..?)

Simon never deserved Soap anyway.

Ghost tells himself that every day. Simon had lived in total darkness until Soap came to be his light, now Ghost has become that darkness to survive after Soap was gone. Ghost didn’t want to engulf Soap in that kind of suffering. He would keep Soap safe. Even if it meant keeping Soap safe from himself.

…

Walls. Barriers. Distance.

Soap broke down every one of those. Simon, who was buried deep inside of the graveyard in Ghost’s heart was climbing out.

The only thing keeping Ghost from surrendering was Simon was never ready- not ready to be in such a warm embrace once again, only to be addicted to it and lose it again. Not again- it can’t happen again. Ghost dreaded to think what he would do afterwards.

So Simon is tucked away safely and quietly in a corner. Only making brief appearances every now and then.

This is the best way. Ghost thought, This is the only way.

What Ghost didn’t expect was for a single conversation to change the tides immediately. A conversation about the past he never wanted to hear about again.

“Lt?” Soap had asked, “Im curious. Who was your best childhood friend?”

You. “Why ask, Johnny?”

“Because. I dunno. Im curious- if you want you can hear mine first.” Soap grins.

“Hm.” Ghost hummed thoughtfully for a minute, then he shrugs. “Sure.”

What happened next was something Ghost didn’t believe to be real. A name Ghost hadn’t heard in ages.

“His name is Simon Riley.”

WHAT DID BAD DO I ONLY READ THE PAPER

UHHH quick summary (because i don’t actually know whats in the paper):

since the eggs were taken bad’s been streaming his character’s personality going through the stages of grief, with the beginning segments showing his character losing the color in his vision.

today was acceptance, the final stage of grief. After administering the antidote to forever and pac (alongside cellbit and philza) bad went back to the graveyard to talk to the eggs graves.

dapper and pomme have many signs there (as bad takes whichever eggs are with him every month to celebrate the dead eggs birthdays) and he began to grieve again, lying on the ground in the rain. after talking to himself for a while, he eventually came to the conclusion that he needed to accept things and do whatever it took to get the eggs back.

he teleported to his house, changing the music from sad to very intense and angry as he paced around his house before going to a secret basement, cinematically lighting a dim hallway before revealing that he had a federation worker in a cage, saying « Let’s try this again. Where’s my son » or somethjng (its late im eepy) and heavily implying he was about to torture the worker.

Some notes:

- earlier in the stream, bad asked two federation workers about the whereabouts of his children, and they didnt answer him

- qbad is a grim reaper, heavily linked to death. It’s implied that he sunk atlantis, started the black plague, and ended an ice age. this heavily influences his morals

- before the eggs, bad was kind of a loose cannon. after them he settled down, throwing himself into protecting all of them and putting insane amounts of effort into it. he’s the only person with access to every egg’s beds, btw

- because his actions are governed by his desire to protect the eggs above all else, he takes a lot of shit and is generally under appreciated. (Think, the rage at being falsely imprisoned by forever being swept under the rug as he threw himself wholeheartedly into finding the eggs). Despite his less than average morals he’s extremely, extremely kind and generous, and over time it’s kind of started to seem forced (as in the character is forcing it, not ccbbh).

- bbh fans are losing their shit because we LOVE evil bbh and maybe finally the other characters will realize what theyve taken for granted, and we also get to see him snap and go crazy on the feds. Peace and love ✌️🫶

Tbh I dunno how much help I’d be, bc I’m stupid and I do things backwards. Usually my sims are based off of already preexisting oc’s, so I’m already pretty attached to them by the time I turn them into a sim. There’s a reason why I play Yan in almost everything I pick up, I’ve been developing and writing for her since I was 17. 🫣

My suggestion would be, to give your imagination plenty to work off of, and plenty of room to grow. Original characters always start off a bit boring, bc they’re practically fetuses, they haven’t developed yet, but they won’t develop if you don’t take the time to actually do that. So you need to think bigger than just playing the game, think outside it, start a Pinterest, jot down basic details about them in a journal, reblog oc asks to get your friends and followers involved, like all other forms of art, creating characters can and should be a communal effort. Bounce ideas off of friends, help them with their oc’s, or try joining a Discord related to them, there’s a few I know of for sims specifically. Rewatch or reread your favorite media for inspiration, or hit up your favorite simblr even. Give into the allure of an AU ( alternate universe ), putting your oc in new “situations” can get you some pretty solid results when it comes to development. You might realize something about them you wouldn’t’ve otherwise. Lastly, don’t be afraid to self insert. I’m giving you full permission, bc sometimes the best and easiest way to get attached to an oc is by giving them something that represents experiences, emotions and desires close to you, making it easier for you to relate to them.

Finally, don’t be afraid to fail. For all the sims and oc’s I still have today, there’s a literal graveyard full of ones that I got bored of and went nowhere, but that didn’t stop me from trying again. 💕

I'm the oldest of the band. I'm a bit of a self-proclaimed older sister to the others and I feel super protective of them. When I'm not making music with the band you can usually find me working on my comic or some other artistic pursuit. I'm a chronically exhausted college student. You can tell what songs I wrote by them having a more jazzy or melancholy tone to them or just being bat-shit off the walls insane. Some of my inspirations are MCR, Scene Queen, , Set It Off, and Demi Lovato (for some reason).

I’m that guy with the neon green hair in the blog’s pfp lol. pronouns are he/him, xe/xem/xyr, and it/its. I take a lot of influence from older punk rock and, surprisingly, country and folk music. my favorite bands are My Chemical Romance, Oingo Boingo, They Might Be Giants, The Cure, Talking Heads, Bikini Kill, Shilpa Ray, Black Sabbath, Rainbow, Iron Maiden, The Magnetic Fields, The Daniel Pemberton TV Orchestra, Lemon Demon, Man or Astro-Man, Radiohead (not in a pretentious way, I swear), Will Wood, Creedence Clearwater Revival… oh boy, there’s a lot. I like music! I tend to disappear at unpredictable intervals due to chronic pain/fatigue and parental restrictions, but I always come back. I keep my dad’s old stenobook by my bedside to write lyrics in - he wrote lyrics for the Panama City punk bands he was in in 1990-ish in there, and I figured I could put it to good use again after all these years. he’s cool with it. see you around, and stay safe out there 🪲

(cut off because, long as fuck)

basically though the rundown was that; wren was adopted by his buir at a young age, after the Purge (young enough that he doesn't remember his previous life, not that he particularly cares to look). also, Wren doesn't remember this, but he was actually adopted first before Samirah (Samirah was older, and thus ended being the older sister anyway) (Samirah also doesn't bother reminding Wren about this, if only to avoid his gloating)

the two only had the one parent, the sole survivor of the Farvo clan after the Purge. It, obviously, left their parent in...a state. i never went around to properly naming their parent, since in the chapter Wren only ever called them 'Buir'. then again given the fact that they were living with a covert back then, the atriarch of clan Farvo probably didn't give their name out anyway.

oh yeah okay so; in the nature/nurture verse, after the Purge, Din's covert wasn't the only covert out there. survivors splintered off into many, many small coverts, most of them isolated from one another and thinking they were the only ones. at most, one covert would be aware of one other covert that survived (and usually, to the best of their ability, try to merge coverts to reassemble their numbers). each covert had a different approach to making through the galaxy, particularly Wren's covert not instilling the 'dont take your helmet off' rule

the themes that i mentioned the chapter having was basically; what it'd be like, growing up as a child of a dead people, and what it'd be like when your parent is a survivor of a genocide. how that'd affect them, and affect you and your family, and how hard it'd be to connect to a culture and a community that was ripped brutally out of your hands before you could even speak. wren farvo, essentially, grew up in a graveyard, with his parent haunted by the ghosts of a family he never got to meet, mourning for a home he never got to see. that Wren was essentially a genocide survivor himself, and how he'd struggle to come to terms with his identity as a Mandalorian when it seems the entire galaxy wants him dead

then I started writing the chapter, realised how similar it was to the very real Palestinian genocide going on right now, and proper realised the depth and weight and importance of how I was going to convey this story. i tried my best for a couple passages, but eventually though i realised that, as of now, it's better if I just...don't. not yet, at the very least. regrettably Im not the best person to write about this, i just don't know enough, and i wasn't going to take a bite out of something i couldn't chew so, whoops! into the deleted scenes doc they go. maybe one day I'll pick it up again

back to Wren Farvo lore however !! his parent passed in the way many mandalorians pass during those times, having caught off guard and alone by a group of one too many beskar-hungry thieves. it was a pretty dark and awful time for the Farvo clan, but they thankfully had the rest of the covert to keep them going. Samirah became matriarch of the Farvos, and Wren became the lighthearted grounding force that balanced out her seriousness. they kept each other in check, one from sinking into the burdens of responsibility and duty, and the other from a recklessness that would eventually kill him. when Samirah adopted Jeliaya, it only brought them closer together, jeliaya basically being a promise for the clan's continued existence

as this is all happening, wren's covert had managed to meet with Din's old covert (Din himself not being around, still searching for the kid). together, and with Bo-Katan's crew after a while, they banded and started searching for more survivors. the heads of the coverts (+ bo) eventually realised how easily dwarf planets flew under nearly every radar. then they found the dwarf planet where they settled and struck peace with the locals. for about a decade they settled in, digging tunnels of their own and carving out spaces for themselves in the planet itself. Wren stayed close with his sister and his niece the entire time, having no reason to be anywhere else

but being able to live on that dwarf planet, though - being able to walk out in the sun in relative peace definitely did wonders for everyone's mental health. for the first time they had a planet again, however small. Samirah's work thrived, especially when she started communicating with the local doctors. Jeliaya grew healthy and at peace, her safety mostly assured. Wren did...Wren things, helping out everywhere he could

a lot of that involved him being part of the force that stood against the Dark Troopers; Wren was one of the first few that devised defensive plans, figured out their weaknesses, convincing the Armourer(s) that beskar weapons were, against this enemy, quite necessary since it's one of the few materials that can tear through the Dark Trooper's armour (which is why she never made Din melt down his spear in this 'verse. that, and also I'm a beskar-spear enjoyer at heart). one such mission brought him and his sister to this Imperial fort, where they met Din for the first time!!

meeting Din, Wren's first immediate thought is 'woah, this guy's fucked' and after learning that he's still looking for the kid he lost about 7-8 years ago, came up with the nickname "Or'trikar". for the grief that he exuded like a physical aura, and for the tightness of Wren's own chest whenever he so much as looked at him. Wren and Din grew closer, mostly due to Wren being...Wren and generally clingy to the people he's trying to impress. it works on Din, who ended up viewing Wren as a younger brother

Din definitely wouldn't think so, but to the Farvos it's obvious that for that time, Din was practically one of them. An honourary Farvo, if nothing else. he was practically Jeliaya's second uncle, and he came around to the Farvo residence pretty often, thanks to Wren refusing to let the guy stew in his own room and his own or'trikar

about two years pass, and Wren and Din get paired together to find the source of all those Dark Troopers, and to scout out how to cut the production off at its root. they find the biggest, freshest clue they've had in all their years and Wren, antsy and excited, decided to go on a solo hunt to burn off steam instead of going home. Din pointed him in the direction of where he last left the Razor Crest, and Wren found it (neglected, dusty, but still usable; something something, nothing grand, just a means to an end) and used it to fly around for a bit

unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you see it) the tracker that Gideon put on that ship was still there, and still active. Wren ends up being captured and thrown into an Imperial prison, where he meets this strange kid through the vents who insists on calling himself Asset

my current default is Libre Franklin! i actually cycle through fonts a lot? i like the editing trick of changing your font to help catch errors and clunky writing, and sometimes i'll switch the font of my doc if i'm feeling particularly stuck while i'm writing. idk how many people know this, but you can change the default font/formatting/color of google docs, and i do it constantly 😂

2. If you had to give up your keyboard and write your stories exclusively by hand, could you do it? If you already write everything by hand, a) are you a wizard and b) pen or pencil?

I write by hand a lot actually! I went through 2.5 notebooks alone last year iirc. I always write in pen -- writing by hand helps me gets ideas out of my head faster, and part of that is that i can't undo/backspace what i write. i just gotta move on. and since i'll have to rewrite it anyways when i type it up, writing by hand really helps me get that first rough draft mess out. it also helps me discard the really crap ideas from that first draft -- sometimes the typed doc that it distills into is completely different than what's on paper, and we're all grateful for it.

3. What is your writing ritual and why is it cursed?

WRITING IN FRIENDS DMS!!!! nothing gets my ideas flowing better than a friend to bounce them around with, and nothing helps me solidify and distill ideas like needing to explain them to someone. i am so bad about sending friends multiple screens worth of written scenes in their DMs (i am very fortunate to have friends who let me do this). this ritual is cursed because my preferred DM platform is tumblr, and i actually rarely remember to save these writings to something more permanent like a doc (pour one out for the many, many, MANY writings lost in DMs <3)

11. Do you believe in the old advice to “kill your darlings?” Are you a ruthless darling assassin? What happens to the darlings you murder? Do you have a darling graveyard? Do you grieve?

real answer lol: if there's something i really like, i can usually find a way to bring it back into a WIP. i'm really good at that sort of adaptive thinking, but part of why i'm good at that is because i am a ruthless darling killer. all of my editing is very much focused on how all the pieces of a story work in harmony to each other and if something doesn't fit within that, that's not the story for it. but sometimes the reason why a thing doesn't work in the story is because its in the wrong place and since I have no issue removing things that don't work, it's a lot easier to find a better place for it if you're not fixated on keeping it in a specific spot. and for any darling that never makes its way back to its home story, it goes into my mental compost heap to possibly seed into something new for a future story.

i'm an avid annotator but only for like...general knowledge? all of my textbooks, reference book, and journal articles/papers are littered with annotations and other marginalia (this is partially why i have so many colored ink ballpoint pens actually 😂). there was a hot minute where i tried to do this for general story/poetry books, but...ehh???? i never quite got into that because usually i just lose myself in the story and my external thoughts come out better in friend DMs or post tags ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

zero organization to notebooks. those are for Throwing Up Ideas, organization would give me writer's block or anxiety. similar for anything that winds up in my phone notes -- even if i could organize them better, i probably wouldn't? they're kinda like a part 2 to the writing notebook for me jotting down ideas, esp stuff that i don't think will become proper stories. proper stories are on google drive because i don't have a better option. fics there are separated by fandom. series and multi-chapter fics get their own folders, individual stories stay out in the general folder. i also have a folder for posted/finished one-shots and a compost folder for discarded story ideas to help keep the clutter down

24. How much prep work do you put into your stories? What does that look like for you? Do you enjoy this part or do you just want to get on with it?

...how much does friend DM yelling count? i love plotting out stories in friend DMs, it's one of my favorite things to do, but i don't like. force myself to stick with anything either. i don't like rigorous story outlines, i prefer a more organic and flexible approach to writing stories. the best i can manage for a story outline is a general bullet list of story points i hope to hit. i like research a lot (wikipedia rabbit holes my beloved <3), but i don't usually worry about going too in-depth for it. it's really good fuel for story ideas and the brainstorming process, but like. i write fic. i care a lot about being sensitive and careful with other people's cultures and histories, but otherwise i don't fret the details and minute because my goal here is to share silly stories.

But then i got really into drawing and started to foucus more on that, and ended up shifting the foucus from writing text to comic making since every artist with ocs does that. I also changed foucus on projects faster than light, so i would write 2 chapters and give up the next day, or change the entire story the next week and such.

I stuck with comics as my goal for like the past 6 years, and only early this year i came to the conclusion that i really hate the comic making part of making comics, and that i like writting much better. Im very rusty+ the fact im not as avid reader as i used to, and the quality is not really good, but im having fun.

In the inn i stay during the week and my actual room in my house are essentially the same place, Is my room, its messy and damp but its confy enough. My table is turned to the small window and during the morning the sun hist right in my face. The table is equally messy, with cups and glasses over it, pappers stained with coffee and tea cover its surface. My one company, a small succulent that rests near the window, and a carved small owl that i need to constantly clean because its constantly molding due to the dampness.

okay so in the 1st video we see faceless ayato on the venti statue, the diona main isnt in coop and doesnt have ayato, so they thought it was just a bug, but they were scared because the ayato turned to them

in the 2nd video they're just playing with diona and they see ayato abt to jump off of what im assuming is starsnatch cliff?? and when they turn the camera, ayato faces diona, btw they mention that this only happens at night

in the 3rd video itto is seen pushing ayato off of starsnatch cliff (which i find kind of funny because the npcs r watching all of this and act as if nothing is wrong), they say that ayato is already dead because he was on venti's hands in the first video

in the 4th video they were gonna check the artifacts of diona and her build but then they say something on her character description (the short one in like 50% transparency or something), theres a riddle which leads to the windrise tree, they describe him as "worshipping" the tree, most likely from the wording of the riddle, and is asking for help from others while having some answers

in the 5th video ayato is seen in the graveyard behind the cathedral (with itto watching from the background, but more hidden), as if he buried someone, he teleports to them, and they say that they cant delete his file

in the 6th video they check the character description of ayato (who still has no face) and it has a riddle which mentions that his death wasnt suicide, it leads to the thousand winds temple where you can see ayato being held prisoner by itto, and when they are close to ayato, itto teleports to diona

in the 7th video ayato is talking to donna, and when they talk to donna, night turned to day and he disappeared, he said something about the light, the dark and that he is the key keeper

in the 8th video they show the character descriptions of itto and ayaka, itto's is "that figure took away the most important thing. MY LIFE! HE KILLED ME! HE SAID IT WAS SUICIDE" (the translation's grammar is pretty broken but i tried to make it understandable)

ayaka's is "'My brother! My brother! WHERE IS HE?! NO, NO, NO! I will take revenge on whoever did this!' my sister said, she solved the mystery, but not completely, there was no confidence left in her, and the darkness took her.." later they show a quest paper which has something written like a newspaper about how ayato jumped off his roof and how they blame itto for it, heizou figured it out but he wants to turn back time, and that its still a mystery, and its dated april 25, 2014

in the 9th video it shows another quest paper which is a pantient report, which says that theres a little boy with depression and that the patient is itto, they prescribe him new antidepressants, and that its not going to be dangerous as long as its only for 8 days, for the first 6 days it was fine, then at the 7-13th days he passed out and woke up screaming, saying something about the 3 dark ultra-universes, and about the threats of the universe, and that ayato was one and they must kill him. theres another patient report dated september 16, 2006 says that a 7 year old skinny, blonde and orphaned boy arrived, about the 3 universes, dark, light, and mother baal, then about the danger in universe 2 and how ayato is going to kill him

they then show itto's notebook where he says that there are 6 universes, and that he hasnt visited all of them, that he will teleport into universe 4 when he dies, and about baal's son the god of darkness, who is dangerous for all universes and that she is unable to remove him, and how itto will steal the pills the nurses give him to see baal often, then the other pages are torn out

they played with their friend and when they left their world they saw something, itto, baal, and ayato, then itto and ayato disappeared, and then raiden/baal teleported to them

in the 10th video they're all at the vision hunt decree statue, and hu tao is involved too. itto seems to be controled by baal, and ayato tried to stop this. hu tao was itto's friend, but after ayato's death he wanted to get rid of her because she was "dangerous", so he bullied her first

in the 11th video, the translator makes a theory, that faceless ayato was a real person, and was killed by his insane friend itto, one day passed out and saw baal, who said that ayato is dangerous. ittos antidepressants made him more insane, he then had an operation which made him have amnesia, and after a few years, remembered about the danger, and removed it

in the 12th video they show yae and thoma's descriptions, yae's says "'Ei, Ei, Ei... do not. Miss Hu Tao needs relaxation, no need to force her to bury him right away!' recording ended." then thoma's says "'Arataki Itto? Yes, look, these files can prove that he was there. It can be counted as evidence of guilt.' and he was right, but something stopped them, and ayato's hope faded away"

Hi hi! So the lost tombs and chronology all super confuse me. So tlt2 ended on a cliffhanger that was not resolved by tlt3 which is ultimate note, but now there is another tlt3 that I am guessing is made by the same studio as tlt2 (but not UN) that actually follows tlt2? And it has the same WPZ as tlt2 (but sadly different WX, ZQL though I’m sure these guys are great). You seem to know what you’re talking about so I’m hoping you can help!

UN also ended on a cliff hanger so I’m wondering if they’ll get a sequel from their studio that comes before tomb of the sea.

ahhh hello anon! yes ahaha the dmbj dramas are certainly very confusing--because they keep switching the screenwriters/entire production team between dramas. huanrui did tlt1 (2015), tlt2 (2019), and the sequel to tlt2 (2021). they're also technically the production company for un (2020), but linghe did like all the directing/casting/writing so its significantly different in tone and quality from the other dramas huanrui produced. npss (dmbj author) did sha hai (2018) and tltr (2020), with sha hai being in collab with linghe, so you can see lots of parallels with un and shared cast. (gonna add that i dont know much about the m9 because that’s not what im personally interested in, so i’m only going by stories with wu xie & the iron triangle.)

unfortunately, the dramas pretty have no continuity as a result of all the weird shit and multiple studios doing different dramas and messy stuff going on behind the scenes. the author's production company currently has all the rights back for filming future dramas, which is......imo, a good thing for book fans who love the author but a 😬 thing for book fans who like the original story more than what the author is now doing with it. I'll uh avoid saying too much opinion stuff though so no more on that 😅

that aside! yes 云顶天宫 “explore with the note” part 2......is the direct sequel to tlt2 and done by the same studio. unfortunately the writers are different and im not sure how much of the production team is the same either. idk how much you know about the novels so brief summary here--for the chinese version, the main story has 9 parts split among 8 books (though the official eng tls have each part being a different book) with some important content being as follows:

official eng title “cavern of blood zombies” (first time wx goes into a tomb, first t3j meeting)

official eng title “angry sea, hidden sands” (xisha seabed tomb, introduce a-ning)

official eng title “bronze tree of death” (bronze tree in qinling, wx & lao yang solo adventure)

official eng title “palace of doom” (heavenly palace on the clouds, introduce bronze gate)

official eng title “deadly desert winds” (golmud, introduce hei xiazi, desert, rainforest, tamutuo)

official eng title “graveyard of a queen” (the rest of that arc, wu sanxing & xie lianhuan reveal, jade meteorite, amnesiac xiaoge and escape, sanshu vanishes for good--also i think the official eng tl covers a couple chapters of the beginning of the next part too)

阴山古楼 (searching for xiaoge’s memories in banai, miluotuo cave, i think introduction of wu erbai)

邛笼石影 (auction/hotel iron triangle fight, introduce xiao hua & xiuxiu, wx & xh on the mountains alone while pz & xg go with granny huo)

finale (rescue from zhang family mansion, changbai mountain goodbye, 10 years promise)

after the main story are the main sequels:

zang hai hua (tibetan sea flower; unfinished & abandoned) covers wu xie a few years after xiaoge has entered the gate, searching to understand xiaoge’s past

sha hai (tomb of the sea; unfinished & abandoned) covers wu xie’s plan to wipe out the wang family, after zhh

chongqi (reunion: the sound of the providence) covers wu xie’s lung disease and how he recovers from that, set after they pick up xiaoge again from the bronze gate. thunder city and everything.

灯海寻尸&万山极夜 (still updating on wechat) don’t worry about this one since it’s still a WIP lol

btw between sha hai and chongqi there’s also ten years later (a short story) that covers how wu xie and pangzi pick up xiaoge from the bronze gate and take him home

the dramas Do Not Connect To Each Other At All, which the exception of tlt2 & tlt2 pt2 somewhat, but they go in this order:

盗墓笔记 / the lost tomb 1 (2015): covers part 1 but with major OCs and filler, and includes the auction scene from part 8 for some reason, so introduces xiao hua early.

怒海潜沙&秦岭神树 / the lost tomb 2 (2019) technically “explore with the note”: covers parts 2 & 3 but with major OCs and filler, introduces xiao hua & xiuxiu (and hei xiazi briefly) early. last couple episodes also cover the beginning of part 4. not a direct sequel to tlt1 despite being done by the same studio.

云顶天宫 / heavenly palace on the clouds (2021) technically also “explore with the note”: covers part 4 with major OCs and filler (and the same changes carrying over from tlt2). some episodes are identical to the last couple episodes of tlt2. works as a direct sequel only if you ignore the last couple episodes of tlt2 that take place in the snowy mountains. (those episodes of tlt2 were filmed after this drama was filmed, and im still not sure why they dragged the wu xie and xiaoge from tlt2 back to changbai mountain to film those episodes.)

终极笔记 / ultimate note (2020): covers parts 5-8 with minor OCs and minimal filler, also introduces xiao hua & xiuxiu early. the only adaptation that resembles its source material most of the time.

沙海 / tomb of the sea (2018): covers the second sequel with major OCs and filler. includes some bits from zhh and the short story “three days of silence”.

重启之极海听雷 / the lost tomb reboot (2020): covers third sequel with major OCs and filler.

in addition there is the prequel series mystic nine (2016) and side movies for the dramas that the author produced. there is also a single standalone movie--time raiders (2016) that is....well it’s. very strange. it’s fully subbed on youtube if you’re interested?

the best way to watch the dramas is to assume each one is its own self-contained AU set along different points of the dmbj timeline because even the dramas the author himself worked on don’t have continuity LOL (and with the exception of ultimate note & sha hai most of the time, also assume most characters are pretty OOC from the novels).

i uh regret to inform you though, that ultimate note will not be getting a sequel unless the author magically decides to not care about making money anymore and sells the rights to film the finale to linghe or something ^^;;;; it’s....unfortunate bc un is the most highly-rated dmbj adaptation on douban by A Lot, but it’s an adaptation that the author had literally nothing to do with whatsoever.

OKAY so say I wanted to, theoretically, start reading fics about them and, like the dumb bitch I am, have not seen the show nor have the attention span to actually, you know, watch the show but instead am just feeling way too many emotions at the gif sets and need an outlet. How much context do I need?

ohh god so CONTEXT there is so much stuff that happens in this show and i also dont wanna spoil too much i guess so i will try to boil it down to as little as i can

i suppose how much context u need depends on what kinda fic ur reading and i actually dont read that much fic these days so i cant really recommend much, that being said tho, anything written by @lanzhanshands is AMAZING and everyone should go read their stuff

if u just wanna go with the cute fluffy stuff u might not need much more context then that they are in LOVE they’re stupid and dense about it and that they sort of accidentally adopt a child but if u want more angsty feely stuff u might need more context so i will give u a quick as little spoilers as possible rundown

SO lwj and wwx are in love - the main thing u need to know, the main thing everybody needs to know - very important, tho u will have probably already picked up on this

lwj basically falls in love with him the moment he first sees him and wwx is very dense and doesnt realise for AGES bc while he is very smart he is also very dumb and we love him

okay so VERY brief rundown of plot: 

wwx and lwj meet @ summer school when they’re 15. lwj has a crush on him and is incredibly annoyed abt this. plot happens stuff happens, lwj sings wwx a love song in a cave, more plot stuff happens, wwx goes missing then comes back all Sad and he’s been learning the flute which ppl dont like bc they’re jealous of his flute skills and the cool amulet that goes with it

some more stuff happens, lwj and wwx do some Intense Pining, wwx gets outcast from everyone so he leaves to go do some farming on a graveyard and accidentally adopts a child along with many of the childs relatives, lwj is very sad he can’t join them

then everyone gets so mad abt his flute skills that they try to kill him and it works. he gets yeeted off a cliff by his brother and dies (not a spoiler btw its literally the first scene in the first ep). 

so wwx is dead, lwj is very sad and Pines for 16 years and adopts wwx’s accidentally adopted kid. then its 16 years later and wwx is back from the dead all thanks to some guy named mo xuanyu sacrificing his body or some shit like that. lwj and wwx have a very intense reunion and then decide to go solving crime and ghosting hunting together. there’s more pining and intense staring and some more playing of some love songs and then theres a big show down and the bad guys get stopped. then they go their seperate ways for ??? reasons and then at the very end they reunite again

its implied that after it finished and they reunited they properly get together like in the book so probably quite a lot of fics are actually set after the ending and stuff when its a fully established relationship but theres also fics where ppl just have them get together in the middle of everything which is very valid

anyway i did try keep this brief lmao im sorry this got kinda long, hope this gives u as much context as u need :D
