Ok, but now youve really piqued my interest. What do you think Deimos looked like pre-infestation? And, yknow what? Even if you dont yet have the skill to draw it well, do it! Make a shitty landscape sketch of the Son of Mars, the personification of terror himself!
ohboy this ask activated my worldbuilding worms..
probably not that different from how it looks now:
a barren stony wasteland.
except it used to have 30 hour days. i say "used to" bc it seems deimos stopped spinning over time (possibly due to the infestation tearing it apart and making it lose momentum), locking our part of the moon in permanent night. which is. bonkers to think about.
limited terraforming couldve been done since it seems like it served as a research facility outpost for the entrati first and a home second, so just enough has been done to sustain life (which might be even limited to the region around the necralisk, who knows).
they mightve introduced pioneer organisms:
simple, resilient flora like grasses, mosses and shrubbery (like the blue plants we see by the necralisk entrance. the wiki speculates they might be remnants of the original vegetation which i like)
and a small selection of animals: insects, fish and pre-infestation variants of the vulpa, preda and avichaea to propel and maintain the ecosystem.
which can give us a barren, desert-like biome:
think nevada desert but in space? i guess? the grass is supposed to be tiny shrubs but i am not drawing those sorry
besides that we also have plenty of entrati ruins littering the plateau:
like remnants of a suspended road system.
the buildings(?) that housed the requiem obelisks
and other facilities (some of which seem to have collapsed below the surface and lead into the iso vaults)
so i came up with this messy thing thats mostly headcanon, speculation and wild guesses based on what we can find around the necralisk and what i think is cool:
(inclusion of the garden based on sons dialogue (iykyk), attached to the necralisk for convenience. with extra roads. for convenience)
this was fun to brainstorm and i had the game open in the bg while drawing to make sure i got things semi-accurately. im not trusting everythings position on the landscape 100% since a lot seems to have shifted around or is like. missing completely (the roads that lead off the plateau and into the infested abyss. fun!) which imply that the drift used to be bigger before the infestation tore it apart
thanks for the question! i hope this was... helpful? insightful? a fascinating glimpse into my sleep deprived and overthinking mind because i pulled an all-nighter for this and am going to bed now?

I think a really fun garyjohn idea would be if Gary had a much heavier presence in John’s life and instead of focusing his attention on indoctrinating Amy, he instead focused on John. Perhaps Amy visits the church and is the one who introduces the two of them? Personally, I really like the idea of Amy and John having known each other before the events of the game as John was one of the only priests who was at all kind to her. Especially after the news of her working at the birth clinic spread and even the church started to become nasty towards her.
John refuses to act that way though and continuously welcomes her with respect and kindness, no matter how much the other priests look at him in disgust. It's through Amy that I believe they end up meeting... perhaps Gary comes to the church? The mental image of Gary looking so so damn good in a red suit and making John flush just looking at him is <3333 oh so very good... middle aged man crushing hard, but Gary smells blood in the fucking WATER.
The plot would be something along the lines of Gary worming his way into John’s life until he had effortlessly won John’s trust and begun to isolate him from everyone else. With Gary’s full attention now diverted onto John, he starts to slowly peel away John’s faith in the church until John’s an anxious, paranoid mess. Well, with the exception of Gary of course! John trusts Gary, more than himself and now more than the church... which only leads him further into Gary’s arms.
Another detail I really like is that Amy’s possession still happens, but perhaps she dies during the exorcism as well? And John is thrown into the psych ward without a second glance back at him. John knows he's alone and that no one is coming for him- but, he wants to be selfish so very badly and beg for help, from anyone- but one person in particular.
He begs for Gary, he begs and prays for Gary and every other word that leaves his tongue is for him. He doesn't notice that he prays more for Gary than he does god nowadays.
And Gary answers him.
