a lot of the shitty characterizations i see are all revolving around mostly twitter staticmoth/radiosilence shippers (no surprise there i guess :/) and almost always portray vox as a macho dom daddy with a superiority complex and that 50s Misogyny Grindset babyyyy or just as a straight up rapist and s/aer. which. Sigh. i can tell you right now ive not only seen that take from rdsl shippers (which, while disappointing, isnt surprising because most of the ones with shit takes are actually just alastor whump fans) but also from a staticmoth shipper???????? ive since blocked and muted their ass but whatever the fuck they were on i do NOT want to go near .

and while im AWARE that yeah sure its all just hcs l and they can do whatever the fuck they want w them (and ill do what i want x1000 intensity just to spite them all) i get SO inordinately pissed at the notion that vox is some sort of violently abusive man perpetually stuck in 50s misogynistic mindsets with an obsession for alastor OR val. he's hell's media darling, for fucks sake. he's not preaching outdated shit to people, his WHOLE FUCKING THING is UPGRADES and MOVING ON into the future. does he BELIEVE IT? maybe not. but he's not going to ever show that if he isn't, because he needs the love and support of the media.

and on that, vox is one of the most fragile cast members: his head is a fucking tv screen, for gods sake. you know how hard it is to break a flatscreen? Not very hard. and he's upgraded before: out of necessity or out of want, we won't know, but he willingly upgraded to something more fragile when he could have kept a CRT. why would he do that if he was a violent and abusive character like some people like to posit? it'd be more advantageous for him to keep the old head, but he doesn't- and that's because between vox, al and val, he's the "brain" of the bunch: his power lies in his words and his mind, not his fists or his physical might- he's not just another val with hypnotic eyes, for fucks sake, he's got a different skillset and specialty because he's not as physically violent as the other cast members. if he's hurting people it's with his words and persuasion, not like al or val.

and on the obsessions: vox Is obsessed with alastor, yeah, i won't deny that, but alastor REVELS in his obsession, and frankly, he's just as obsessed back- there was this tumblr post about stayed gone and how al was listening to vox even before he started the broadcast, and Thats certainly not something someone not happy with the attention theyre getting would do. the thing most ppl use to say vox is obsessed w val is the cameras- and . Hey. have you ever paused to consider that Maybe he's monitoring val because he's a loose cannon who LITERALLY TRIED TO GO AND ATTACK THE PRINCESS OF HELL BECAUSE HIS EMPLOYEE WAS STAYING AT HER HOTEL??????

okay okay so i’m like, gonna rank them holistically, based off the story, campaign, and general amount i like them

1. HUNTER- Woooowwww who would have guessed? her story is connected to my two fav iterators, her campaign is INSANELY fun to me, and she’s PINK!!!!!! she’s just my fav all around. i’ve beaten her campaign more times than i can count, and i used to do score runs but ive kinda stopped because of work. i like how balanced her “gimmicks” are, she just runs slightly faster and is slightly stronger has a backspear, which is enough of an advantage to make it feel balanced, but not overly easy. character wise, analyzing the cultural differences between her and wild scugs is incredibly interesting to me, since she was raised by an iterator and likely has a different perspective when it comes to a lot of stuff. i love her soooo much and could rant for like 10 years about her but i will refrain

2. Watcher - dude this scug grabbed me by the brain and won’t let go. i won’t spoil just in case but its story is so fuckin good and could lead to some diabolically twisted headcanons and aus…

3. Rivulet - the campaign itself is fun (though pretty short bc of her speed), but the final broadcast? every single fucking time i read it i absolutely bawl my eyes out. the first time i finished it i had to fuckin go cry to my mom bc it made me so emotional. aside from that i love writing her because she’s very bouncy and energetic, and as hunter’s little sister, makes it her mission to mess with her. also i headcanon her voice sounds like pinkie pie’s.

4. Spearmaster - their campaign is simultaneously super fun and also the literal fucking worst. combat is fun, getting the broadcasts is exciting, the story is really good. however. god hates this fucking rat so bad. i have more shelter failures as spearmaster than any other scug. getting all the broadcasts is fucking grueling, and takes me like 20 goddamn hours. outside of that i love making them this awkward freak of a slugcat that was raised by an awkward freak of an iterator who doesn’t know “how to slugcat”, yet somehow manages to still be charming due to being a complete failthing. i also headcanon they consider hunter to be their sibling which is very cute hehe

5. Artificer - her campaign is more fun than spearmaster’s to me, because i love killing and murder in this game and blowing through a scav toll and leaving no survivors is super rewarding considering scavs one-shot you. getting to hear pebbles’ side of things through having him read the pearls is super cool, and i love the silly fanon depiction of arti adopting him as her weird metal slugpup. the reason shes so far down is cuz if im being brutally honest, her story is compelling but could be better. i dont really like how it makes pebbles actively malicious towards the scavengers, it feels kinda out of character for him. id like it better if maybe he synced her citizen drone and told the player you could now access the city, leaving you to go explore and eventually find the scav king for yourself. however the final cutscene where your karma gets locked at 1 and you realize you’ve officially doomed yourself gives me chills

6. Monk - gameplay puts her this low on the totem pole, (i like murder, damn it) but she makes up for it because i like writing her. she is kind, yes, but also quite mature and doesn’t let herself be pushed around. this can manifest as stubbornness but that makes for good conflict (especially with hunter, who is equally as stubborn yet a lot less emotionally mature). she’s also deeply loyal and brave, and her willingness to throw herself into the unknown to save her sibling gives her a lot of depth. not to mention, she (canonically) brings moon neurons, and it’s implied that she’s the one who went and got moon’s cloak for her, which is an insanely treacherous journey for someone who isn’t rivulet, all to do something kind for moon! she’s a lot deeper than most give her credit for.

7. Survivor - the base lil guy! can’t knock it, but not the most interesting scug ever. also im insanely impatient especially after being spoiled with hunter’s walking speed and i cannot fuckin stand how slow she is. still, rain world would not be rain world without him, and he deserves credit where credit is due.

8. Enot - mmm. enot, enot, enot. I say he’s my second favorite scug, but thats more from a personality standpoint. i like making him into what is essentially a loony toon, kinda like harime nui from kill la kill. it makes reality its bitch and has fun while doing it. but since im also considering the campaign he has been banished to 8th place. surprisingly ive never finished enot’s campaign just bc it doesnt suuuper interest me, but recently ive found myself kinda wanting to try just for the challenge of it all.

9. Saint - okay i have a lot of opinions on this motherfucker. the campaign is an absolute bitch to get through. it is also completely off the rails, you literally get POWER OF KILL?? however i still loved it. the environmental storytelling? BREATHTAKING. going to the edge of the chimney canopy bridge and finding five pebbles gone is one of the top 5 Video Game Moments ever. Going through the collapsed ruins of pebbles’ structure, his fucking corpse, made my stomach feel sick. rubicon is also fucking awesome. however i like rivulet’s campaign as a better ending for the story overall and consider saint’s campaign as like, a bit of (fun) wish fulfillment that isn’t canon but still cool. also i headcanon that he’s an asshole LMAO

10. Gourmand - I KNOW IT’S A FUCKING SKILL ISSUE, OKAY?! but GOD this campaign SUUUUCKS. like yeah, let’s make the SLOWEST CHARACTER have to traverse from the easternmost point of the map (shoreline), ALL THE WAY ACROSS THE ENTIRE FUCKING MAP. meanwhile, the fucking “drop onto enemies” mechanic is cool but I CAN NEVER ACTUALLY AIM IT CORRECTLY, and usually land BESIDE my target and die, OR if you wanna try to use spears, good fuckin luck if you miss, cuz now you’re exhausted and do like, 30% of your regular damage! also im just gonna say it: outer expanse is genuinely one of my least favorite regions in the game. it’s WAY too long, and the color palette and spawns get old super fast. if they made it like, half as big i’d probably be fine with it, but god it is SO BORING to go through. also dare i say it but the threat theme sucks. on the bright side i do enjoy writing gourmand i just haven’t really had the opportunity to fully flesh out his character and stuff.

3. Swags mod said that Swag would probably leave camp and die somewhere in quite place, while trying to survive. Why would he leave people that he cares about? Im a little bit dumb and don't exactly understand his planned ending 8(

4. There was a moment when One-ler tried to convince Bitter to put him out of his misery, but he escaped that. And I was curious, if he actually killed him then, would Entre blame himself for that? And if so, would it be worse then he blamed himself when he killed Bitter by his own hands?

5. After Rockys planned death, would Swag blame Entre for this? I mean, emotionally shocked, blame him again about this apocalypse stuff, that Rocky wouldn't die if he wasn't infected and etc.

PHEW THAT IS A CHUNKY LIST. i love it

1. guns are loud and the infected are drawn to loud noises so if you shot a gun you’d be ringing the dinner bell basically. i feel like maybe we touched on it directly? but if i’m wrong it’s probably bc it’s a common thing brought up in zombie apocalypse stories so we might’ve assumed ppl just Knew why none of them used or wanted to use a gun

2. they do become stronger! i actually have a whole list of mutations (and more can be added as ppl come up with them! it’s open lore basically)

i made a whole google doc explaining the actual truffula flu and the symptoms, risks, etc (content warning for if you’re sensitive to medical discussion?? i don’t know how to word it but i wrote it like ur typical online disease info page. also content warning for zombies bc. it’s entirely abt zombification.)

rocky and entre being weakened definitely didn’t help their situation but yes. it’s mainly bc the spiky zombie is faster and stronger than ur typical sort

3. this is kinda hard for me to answer bc i’m not the one who originally wrote it. i don’t rly know why it was planned for it to go like that. i guess out of irony? i know the original plan was for swag to be the sole survivor at the end, but that kinda clashed w other plans so it was changed. so maybe this was the compromise to that

i will say tho that. things had been discussed since that post was made and his story goes differently than was broadcasted. howso? you’ll just have to see :)

4. yes, entre still would’ve blamed himself because ultimately: this is all his fault. regardless of who dies how or where. they wouldn’t be in that situation if it weren’t for him. especially if it’s connected directly with the infection. especially if it’s right in front of him where he can’t ignore it

he wouldn’t have been AS devastated by bitters death if he weren’t the one that had to kill him tho, because the thing is: that was the first time entre had directly killed someone who was still “alive” (unless i’m forgetting some obscure shit i did or said idk it’s been over a decade) and not only that, it was someone who was still his friend despite what he’d done? and even more layers: he had worked so hard to get bitter to come out of his shell prior to the infection and actually be his friend and then this happens. and he has to be the one to end it. bc he was pressured into it

so honestly entres descent into immense self-loathing and all that would have been Very different from how we saw it if someone else had taken care of bitter

5. nah i don’t think swag would’ve like actively started pointing fingers at entre again at that point. like deep deep down swag can’t ignore that this IS entre’s fault and this WOULDNT have happened if not for his mistake, but…swag realizes in the story that it’s not gonna get them anywhere if he keeps holding on so hard to those facts. like if he keeps berating and belittling entre as payback for everything what’s actually gonna get better for that? nothing. all it does is give him temporary catharsis and even that gets cheaper and lasts less time every time he does it

entre wants to fix things so earnestly and tries and swag sees that and wants to help because obviously he also would like this to be undone or at least, cured. and they can’t help each other if they’re at odds. and so even if it’s really hard on him to lose rocky like that, i think at that point it’s just chalked up to “this bitch of a situation” and not “entre did this”

not forgetting the fact that at that point, entre is going to mean a LOT to him because of how their relationship has deepened. so he’s not gonna turn on one of the only ppl he has left

It’s great to hear that you are taking an interest into f1 and motorsport in general and the fact that you like my blog means so much to me 💖

A few years back yeah, most of the f1 community had gotten into motorsport young or through a parent/family member but with the first season of drive to survive on Netflix coming out in 2019ish that brought a massive influx of new fans and that has continued with the following two seasons.

There is a massive range of how people have gotten into f1 and I actually think that’s a good thing as the sport very much was a old rich white mans sport but it’s grown massively.

Yeah you are right to a degree it is an expensive sport to compete in for the drivers (even before they get to f1) as well as to watch (depending on where you are and the broadcasting rights - in the UK where I am Sky have all the broadcasting rights and it’d cost me far too much money a month to be able to watch it if I didn’t use my dads account)

Please don’t tell yourself you don’t belong here, my goal with this blog is to have a space for new and old fans to learn a little bit about f1 and have some discourse about different topics - the community on here is very different to other f1 communities online and it definitely loses the “old rich man” sport stereotype, I guess it is normal to feel like this when you are just beginning to find out about new interest but you are definitely not too old, I watched f1 a lot when I was younger and then watched intermittently for a few years, until drive to survive and lockdown made me rediscover how much I had missed watching it.

I’m hoping that this will be an exciting first season for you to watch if you stick around as it looks like we might have a title fight on our hands 🤞

Golf has become very popular in Asia. Ladies golf has so many South Korean women playing that they actually have to use a number next to the last name “Lee” and a US broadcaster got into a lot of trouble for making a joke about Korean domination. It’s wildly popular in India and many immigrants to the US are sending their kids to play golf. There are tons of community programs that provide free equipment. There’s a stigma but the reality is that it’s amongst those that don’t care to know more?

like i said, i recognize there are ppl outside of the "rich white man" norm playing golf but i just don't think u can say it's a stigma when it's still predominantly that group of ppl playing the game, especially on a higher level, and there's sm gatekeeping involved towards ppl that aren't rich, poc, women etc. still a lot more work to be done in golf before one can say it only has a stigma attached to it. there's also a lot to be said about the environmental issues in golf (wasting large amounts of water, destroying habitats for wildlife) which brings us right back to it being an elitist sport but anyway!

meet this tough shell to crack !! don’t call her winona, she’ll gut you. it’s winnie, win, or nothing at all.

she’s 25 and grew up in the hollow with her mom, dad, and little brother. her childhood was decent, aside from her parents struggling to keep them afloat financially. money had always been a problem. the lights got cut off, sometimes the water was off – really it just depended on how many auto insurance packages her dad sold that week.

he also dealt drugs on the side, something that she and her brother were kept in the dark about. people were in and out of their house a lot, and they saw many different walks of life trudging through their two bedroom apartment. nobody ever harmed them and they actually looked forward to the visitations from certain clients – without ever knowing about the deadly chemicals her father was supplying them with.

throughout her childhood, she constantly found herself drawing – normally on herself. she carried around a bunch of gel pens and honed her craft on her arms, her legs, her hands, any body part that she could get to in the middle of class. no matter what her parents did, winnie always got her hand on some sort of pen and drew away. this lead to her interest in tattoos – and not necessarily doing them for other people, but just coming up with ideas upon ideas to cover her body in.

she also sketched in a notebook, but that wasn’t as fun and didn’t really make her happy. winnie was kind of a loner throughout school, coming out with a couple close friends at graduation, but she never cared. she had her family and her art.

while her dad was dealing (drugs and insurance), winnie’s mom opened up a little bakery. it was all made out of her apartment and sold out of a little truck they rented, and the neighborhood loved her treats. winnie helped her all the time, and it was one of the things that made them forget about their living situation.

one day when they were at the truck, her dad was involved in an altercation with a competing group of dealers that resulted in his death. having been a daddy’s girl, winnie took this particularly hard, as did her mother. everything came to a screeching halt.

after the funeral and a few weeks had passed, winnie, her brother and mother sat down to try to figure out a plan on what they were going to do. after a long chat, they decided that her mother needed to open an actual bakery and that’s where they could get their income.

her mother was depressed, though, and after a few years of going through the motions, she told her family that she wanted to quit. winnie told her she would take it over, and in doing so, she’s made a ton of money, but not without a cost…

she sells most drugs that she can get her hand on – never anything crazy like meth or heroin, but weed, cocaine, hallucinogens, just about anything else a person could need or want. the bakery itself isn’t doing great, but the drug dealing coming out of it is keeping them more than afloat. in fact, winnie is living on her own in an apartment at oasis and has helped her mother buy and move in to a house on blueberry boulevard. she loves that she’s able to do this for her mother, but holds a lot of shame in the fact that she’s lying about how the actual baked goods are selling, and not the cupcakes with a dime bag in them.

after her father’s death, winnie became even more reserved than she was in school. she didn’t trust a soul. she took up boxing and self defense, never wanting to be in a position like her dad had been, which was more likely now that she was doing his old job.

she is tense. there’s no doubt about it. she hides pretty much any feeling that will lead to a deeper conversation about herself, but not so much other people. she loves to listen to their stories and help others through things. she’s very nurturing in that way, and intuitive in the way that she can often read people well.

she drinks. a lot. she’s borderline alcoholic. parties are where she really lets loose, and doesn’t necessarily get messy but definitely is able to communicate and laugh more. she’s the life of the party, literally, but sober winnie sits in the corner. she relies on alcohol for comfort a bit.

this whole peacher situation has definitely given her a lot of anxiety. her livelihood is on the line every day due to this monster.

tl;dr: winnie broadcasts bad bitch energy while actually having smol bean energy on the inside. tough to crack, gooey on the inside. has a bakery that she sells drugs out of, boxes a lot, and has a ton of tattoos, always drawing more. likes hooking up with like anybody???

as for connections, i have a few ideas!!

employees: so i figure there will be a couple people who work at the bakery, maybe even just part time, and they can either actually work thinking its a bakery or work in the back with all the material. this can kind of build friendships too!! since she’s super loyal

ride or die: i’m thinking she will have like two of these?? maybe one is female bc i love a f/f ride or die.

party friends: these are friends that maybe she doesn’t talk to much outside of a party… like they link up, get drunk, maybe fuck, maybe just get real messy… and then only text each other to send memes or go out

positive influence: so i would really like her to have someone who just kind of makes her feel whimsical instead of tense. maybe they’re aware of her past or her current occupation and just strive to make everything light and fun, maybe even flirty if you wanna go that way!!

hook ups: she’s not shy, she’ll fuck anyone. sign up i guess

the big one: an ex that she spent a lot of time dating and then kind of shut out when she felt like things were going south. lots of angst.

ahhhh im not sure who else to talk to but lately i've been feeling really unhappy w/ yoi fandom and idk what to do. i guess it's because im seeing people from fandom all around the world and there's a lot of difference in culture, but some stuff i see just makes me want to never touch the show again. ik it's stupid that it's affecting my perception of yoi and the people working on it but i just can't disconnect it and it makes me question kubosayo's intentions as well. it's so stupid and i know i cant do anything about it bc ppl are entitled to do what they want and i cant force them to view yoi the same way i do but i just feel so lost bc this is the first time i’ve ever been in such a large fandom and i really enjoyed yoi but now im just sort of anxious and questioning fans of the show and the creators as well. im sorry for clogging up your inbox but i just want some advice. maybe i should just leave the fandom altogether? Have you considered just sort of disconnecting from the fandom a bit, trying to blank it out, and then rewatching the show on its own merits?

As far as fandom itself, just make sure you stick to following people whose opinions you’re comfortable with. Curate your experience. You can generally avoid the ugliest parts of fandom if you’re careful. 

I think Kubo and Sayo’s intentions are very genuine. If I wasn’t sure about it before, seeing them in person at Anime Fest and seeing all the genuine passion and love and dedication to this project from them would have convinced me. Their intentions were to make a good show about something they loved, nothing less.

There is literally no doubt that Kubo and Sayo are forced to walk on eggshells when talking about this project in interviews and such. We KNOW this for a fact. It’s been made clear in things they’ve told interviewers, in bullshit like the ring censorship, in Sayo’s comments about having to force the kiss through, etc. 

We already have people in the industry referring to YOI as ‘too much boy’s love’ despite the fact that they have worked their butts off to avoid it being pigeonholed in that genre, because they know it would be harmful to the show and the story they want to tell. There’s a precedent in blatantly romantic m/m content that isn’t ‘boy’s love’ having to be discussed this way. Hideaki Anno only acknowledged that Kaworu and Shinji’s relationship was romantic when he did an interview with an actual BL magazine. In other interviews, they were just forced to use super gay sounding words that if you’re that desperate and homophobic, you can still no homo. 

It’s weird to say but Kubo and Sayo don’t actually have that much power. They made the actual show, to be sure, but creators and writers are considered replaceable in the anime industry and that Sayo especially has been as bold as she has been is impressive to say the least. Putting it in the series itself is one thing, blatantly acknowledging that (what very clearly happened on screen) is the intent? Is another. It sounds kind of stupid, but that’s the way it is. 

I do not think MAPPA would ever dream of replacing Kubo and Sayo. They are behind them 100% of the way, and have been very much “we will let them do what they want!!” Otsuka, Mappa’s CEO, has openly talked about Victuuri being a romance, but he’s literally the CEO (and also a man), so he can get away with more. That being said, Mappa would never replace them, but YOI has to work with tens of companies through merchandising, marketing, broadcasting, etc Just because Mappa is open to things, doesn’t mean they are. 

I can’t get into Sayo and Kubo’s heads, but I 100% believe in their intentions based on what they’ve said. Kubo, I think, was a little more unsure how to handle everything at first, but she’s improved a lot over time and she even acknowledged that she knows now fans are frustrated by vagueness.
