It felt a little strange. You couldn't remember when was the last time you had seen him or even heard someone mention his name. Yet he was here, face to face with you, after all those years.

"What are you doing here?" Severide asked. His voice brought you back to the present. By the look on his face, you could tell he was surprised. If it was a good surprise or a bad one, you couldn't tell. He’s always been really good at hiding his feelings. "I thought you had moved to Florida." 

"I-I did." You smiled, nodding your head. "Couldn't get used to the weather, though." You confessed, earning a short laugh from the firefighter. You stared at him for a few seconds, lost in your thoughts, not knowing what to say next.

“So,” Severide tilted his head to the side. “What brings you back to Chicago?”. He curiously asked. “Don’t tell me it’s because of the weather.”

You laughed, then flashed a weak smile, looking at the paperwork in your hands. “Work, actually. A new school just opened up and they got in touch with me. Apparently they heard about the work I was doing down in Florida and wanted me to be part of their team.”

“That’s great.” Severide smiled. “I’m sure you're the best person for the job. You never loved anything more than teaching.”

The way he said it made your chest hurt. Your smile instantly faded away. “Kelly…” You took a step closer, trying to keep the conversation private. “Don’t do this. You know I loved you. Right?” You gently squeezed his arm.

“I know that.” He nodded, looking away before meeting your eyes again. "I know you loved me. I just don’t understand why you didn’t love me enough to stay."

The words caught you off guard. Before you could say anything back, he softly touched your hand on his arm and wished you goodbye.

          who would have thought that someone as quiet and reserved as shimizu would actually be skilled at games ? she herself could never have even guessed as much. before she’d ever even set her hands on a game controller or opened up a pc game application , shimizu had resigned herself to thinking that people who played video games probably only did so because they had nothing else to do. it wasn’t that they found the games fun— since a video game is the same as anime : two-dimensional and often lacking much substance— but it was a way to keep busy and pass time.

           even now , shimizu considers it nothing more than that. it’s something she uses to pass time. but it also happens to be a decent way to make some money. from strangers. that part catches her up from time to time , especially since she’d amassed some followers who clipped her ‘ cute ’ speaking moments as if they were a new form of gospel. but it’s still money , she supposes , and she can turn a blind eye to what people who watch her videos comment on those compilations. 

           maybe it’s her inherent skill with catching minute details that helps her with gaming. without even the hint of an opponent’s footsteps , she can spot them rounding the next hill ahead. her speed helps , too. as soon as their little heads crest the top , she clicks her mouse to notify hikaru : ENEMY SPOTTED. her aim is not that good yet , and she still depends on her best friend for support , but shimizu also prefers to loot the most durable armor first just in case. that way , if ever met with a confrontation like this one , she’ll have something to protect herself with.

           “  ne ... hikaru-kun ... are we going ? or will we wait for them ?  ”  she prefers not to be the decisive one in games like this , so the question is directed towards him instead.  “  i’ll follow after you.  ”

You were cooking dinner late at night in the kitchen when you heard the front door open. Your roommate entered the kitchen and went straight to the fridge, taking a bottle of water in his hands.

You could smell the alcohol from 5 feet away. Kelly had probably gotten drunk. Turning around, you confirmed your thoughts as soon as you saw the look on his face.

"You okay?" You quietly asked, walking over to the cabinet to grab a plate. "I thought you were sleeping at Stella's tonight."

After chugging the water down, he shook his head and stared at the empty bottle in his hands. "I broke up with her." He confessed in a low, quiet tone, letting show all the pain in his voice.

"What!? Why?" You quickly asked, confused, placing the plate on the counter and rushing to his side. "I thought you were doing okay…I don't understand."

Kelly slowly raised his head and flashed you a half smile. He blinked at you a few times, slightly shaking his head. He looked away and confessed, just above a whisper. "She's not you."

That statement caught you off guard. You thought Kelly had gotten over you. You thought he moved on and was happy with somebody else.

"...Kelly-"

"I'm gonna go take a shower and head to bed." He interrupted you, knowing damn well what you were about to say. "Good night." He placed a kiss on the top of your head before leaving the room.

All you could do was stare at his back till he disappeared out of the kitchen. You didn't know what to say or what to think. Your brain was having a hard time processing what just happened. Was Kelly still in love with you?

Well, what else could you expect when you start sharing an apartment with your ex-boyfriend.
