Heartstopper is such an important show. But season 3… oh my god. Season three hurt me. Healed me. Hugged me… Nick Nelson is absolutely the best boyfriend. Any other male would never be able to even reach the pedestal I have that boy on. Tori is the best older sister. I will take no arguments. Nick Swearing - that’s all that needs to be said about that, Thank you.

This season, as the others, touches on mental health, physical health, eating disorders, anxieties, unhealthy coping, mentions of self harm and hints at teen sex.

This show is is important and needs to be more widely known that it’s not just gay characters, but there’s characters who are trans. Bi, Lesbian, ace/aro, and non-binary characters too. This show needs more love.

imogen heaney & heteronormativity

in my opinion one of imogen’s key roles in the heartstopper tv show is to demonstrate the negative impact of heteronormativity on people (teenagers specifically)

you are constantly surrounded by straight culture and expected to be straight, so you don’t even question it. that’s why imogen interpreted all her strong positive feelings towards boys as romantic crushes. after all, that’s what girls are supposed to feel towards boys, right?

like, you think you are straight because yeah everyone is straight and you assume all the people around you are also straight because yeah everyone is straight, and then you realise that that’s not how the world works

and now you have to figure out who you are and who you like outside of this basic template society has been shoving you in for your entire life

so yeah i think her character is a great addition to the show actually

I know that we’re all a bit confused about what happens in the last episode of Heartstopper with Imogen and Sahar at Prom. But if there’s one thing this show has tried to teach us again and again is that we shouldn’t be trying to guess and assume people’s identities. Especially before they are ready. I mean, do I need to remind y’all why Kit Connor left twitter? Everyone was making assumptions about what he is and isn’t. “Is he gay? Or is he straight?”

For crying out loud, we even get to see it in S1 of the show with everyone assuming a rugby player couldn’t be any shade of queer. Can we, just this one, let Alice and the writers and Imogen and Sahar and their respective actors tell us in due time. Can we enjoy a show about queer love? Can we applaud them for what they’ve created for us this far? I mean, they’ve done an incredible job so far! I trust that they will tell us the needed stories in due time. I know that they are just characters but this could be good practice for what folks should have done for Kit. And what we should do for others.
