Sometimes I wish they had just taken out Ashley's animals line in the Legendary Edition, because old players are stuck in their ways and have already decided they'll never forgive her for it, and new players are absolutely going to be put off by it.

And the only consolation I take from it is the fact that it's out there, and yes, this is a major flaw that we have to deal with. No getting around it.

And it does make me question what information is more blunt and easy to come across, and what requires a closer look.

I can talk about Ashley's nuances all day, but someone can bring up the animals line and that stops the conversation dead. That's it for them, I can't stop them for it.

But conversely I can mention Garrus's mentions of killing the rachni, the way he looks down at Tali, the way he suggests the genophage was correct until I'm blue in the face, but the fact is you have to look for these things. Most of what I just referenced are elevator banters, and a lot of times there's some news snippets, the characters don't ALWAYS talk. Garrus talks about the rachni if you bring Wrex during the mission, not everyone brings the right combo for the right missions. And then of course, Garrus supports your decision to sabotage the genophage in 3, but that's not a popular choice.

But just because players don't see them, doesn't mean they don't make that character's personality. I think, especially in a game of choice with branching paths, what the characters CAN do is just as important as what they WILL do.

And ultimately it's not important because people were always going to see Garrus as your best buddy who never questions anything you do. And if that's what's important to you, that's fine, but I think it's a disservice to his character, as well.

With Ashley you have to see her distrust, you HAVE to have that conversation, assuming you don't just ignore her. If you engage with her character at all, this growth does happen, "baggage and all". she works with her alien squadmates, and she volunteers to work alongside the STG. I always thought it was inspiring, I liked the idea that a person COULD change, if they were willing.

I've made my sona an android who's an artist of sorts, which feels a bit ironic considering how much I blatantly hate AI art lmao

but just know that my beliefs are basically this:

android/robot characters are rly cool and are fun to draw and design, as well as explore in terms of characterization and conflict when it comes to emotions, relationships with humans, etc. and it provides an interesting way to break down humanity from an outsider's perspective

however

generative AI sucks ass and should be exploded to smithereens

... so yeah

I'm a big fan of robot characters in media but I'm not a fan of generative AI that steals from artists and stuff

I don't consider Ramattra difficult to draw, just very time consuming due to all the details.

Try extending your own arm and twisting your wrist and then entire arm. How in God's name do those kinds of motions (or in my case, poses) translate to a robot arm without a ball joint at the elbow???? I swear whenever I pose my arms to get a better idea on where the elbow itself points, which side of the hand has the the thumb, etc etc, then translate the information onto him, 99% of the time he ends up with dislocated elbows...
