What is ITR : Income tax return
An Income Tax Return (ITR) is a document individuals submit to India's Income Tax Department, detailing their income and tax liabilities for a specific financial year, spanning from April 1st to March 31st of the following year. Income sources may include salary, business profits, property sales, dividends, capital gains, and interest. Any excess tax paid results in a refund issued by the Income Tax Department.
UNDERSTANDING ITR FORMS: TYPES OF ITR
Navigating the world of tax forms can be daunting, but knowing which Income Tax Return (ITR) form to use can make the process much smoother. Here’s a clear and easy-to-follow guide on the seven ITR forms available in India, so you can file with confidence:
- ITR-1 (Sahaj): Ideal for Indian residents earning up to Rs 50 lakh from salary, a single house property, or other sources. This form isn’t for Non-Resident Indians (NRIs). If you're a salaried employee, just upload your Form 16 to the Cleartax Portal for a hassle-free filing.
- ITR-2: Suited for individuals and Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs) with income from salary, multiple properties, capital gains, or other sources—excluding business income. NRIs with these income types should also use this form.
- ITR-3: Designed for individuals and HUFs who earn income from a business or profession. This includes salaried individuals with side incomes from trading or investments. Report income from various sources including salaries, house property, capital gains, and business.
- ITR-4 (Sugam): For individuals, HUFs, and partnership firms opting for the presumptive taxation scheme. Use this form if your business turnover is up to Rs 2 crore or if you're a freelancer with a turnover up to Rs 50 lakh.
- ITR-5:Applicable for partnership firms, Limited Liability Partnerships (LLPs), Association of Persons (AOPs), and Body of Individuals (BOIs). Report business and other income using this form.
- ITR-6: For companies to report their income from business and other sources. This form helps companies comply with their tax obligations.
- ITR-7: Used by companies, associations, and trusts claiming tax exemptions under various sections of the Income Tax Act
Selecting the correct ITR form ensures you file accurately and stay compliant with tax regulations. For a smoother filing experience, make sure to choose the form that matches your income type and source.
IS FILING ITR COMPULSORY?
Filing your Income Tax Return (ITR) is compulsory if your earnings exceed the government's tax-exempt threshold. Failure to file on time can result in penalties and may hinder future endeavors such as securing loans or visas.
Filing your Income Tax Return (ITR) is mandatory if your income exceeds the tax-exempt threshold set by the government. Late filing may incur penalties and impact future financial transactions like loan applications or visa approvals.
WHO IS REQUIRED TO FILE ITR?
Individuals under 60 must file if their annual income exceeds Rs. 2.5 lakhs; for senior citizens (60-79), the threshold is Rs. 3 lakhs, and for super senior citizens (80+), it's Rs. 5 lakhs.
process of identifying individuals and entities mandated to file income tax returns, we can create a simplified checklist
1. Individuals    - Below 59 years      - Annual income exceeding Rs. 2.5 Lakhs.    - Aged 60 to 79      - Annual income exceeding Rs. 3 Lakhs.    - Aged 80 and above:      - Annual income exceeding Rs. 5 Lakhs.    - Possession of assets or financial interests abroad.    - Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) earning above Rs. 2.5 Lakhs.

Tax Prep Checklist 2024: What Do You Need to File Taxes?
— Aly A. Yale | Reviewed By Robert Thorpe | February 06, 2024 | Newsweek
Tax season is quickly approaching, and whether you file your returns yourself or enlist a professional for help, having the proper documents on hand will be necessary. These documents ensure a quick and accurate filing, which can lead to a faster tax refund for some. Want to make sure your tax filing goes off without a hitch? Use this tax prep checklist to guide the way.
Vault’s Viewpoint
There are five categories of documents you’ll need as you file your tax returns: personal information, income, deductions, credits and payments.
You’ll need information for you, your spouse (if filing your returns together) and your dependents.
Banks, lenders and your employer send many documents to you automatically, but there are some you may need to pull yourself.
Personal Information
The first set of documents you’ll need detail personal information for you, your spouse (if married and filing your returns together) and your children or other dependents.
Social Security Cards For You, Your Spouse and Your Dependents
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) needs a way to identify you as a unique taxpayer, and for most people, this requires a Social Security number (SSN). You’ll also need your spouse’s SSN if filing your returns jointly, the SSNs for any dependents you have and the SSN of the paying party if you receive alimony or child support payments.
If you file your returns as a business owner, are a nonresident or resident alien or a paid tax preparer, you’ll likely use a unique tax identification number instead. You can apply for these directly through the IRS.
Bank Account Numbers
You’ll need to put in your bank account’s routing and account numbers when filing your return. This will allow the IRS to directly deposit your refund once it’s been processed. You can find these numbers in several places, such as on your bank statements, online after logging into your account at your bank or at the bottom of a check linked to your account (The first number listed is your bank’s routing number; the second is your account number.)
A Copy of Your Last Tax Return
This isn’t required, but it can be helpful to have past returns on hand as you file your new one. It can be a quick way to look up information, and it may also remind you of what deductions and credits you’re eligible for. You may also be able to use the return to auto-populate your tax return information if you’re using online tax software.
Form 8332 if You Share Custody of a Child
If you share custody of a child and are planning to claim them as a dependent on your taxes, you’ll need Form 8332, as it proves the other custodial parent has released their right to claim the child as a dependent.
Income
You’ll need to show your sources of income on your tax returns. This can include full- or part-time employment, freelance work, unemployment earnings or alimony payments. Many of these documents will be mailed to you or delivered electronically by the government, your employer or clients, or your bank by the end of January. Some documents, though, you may need to produce yourself.
W-2s
A W-2—or Wage and Tax Statement—is a form you’ll get from your employer annually. It details how much income you earned, the taxes they withheld from your paychecks, details about your benefits and more.
Form 1099-NEC or 1099-MISC
If you’re self-employed or earned income from side gigs, contracting work, freelancing or other jobs that don’t come with a W-2, you should get a 1099-NEC or 1099-MISC form that details how much you earned from each client every year. Clients don’t have to report payments under $600 to the IRS, though. So if you only earned a small amount from one, you may have to rely on bank statements to report these earnings accurately.
Form 1099-R or SSA-1099
If you received Social Security benefits or distributions from pensions or retirement accounts, you should get a 1099-R or SSA-1099, also called a benefit statement, detailing how much you earned in any given year. You can also pull your SSA-1099 at SSA.gov.
Proof of Alimony or Child Support Received
If you received alimony or child support payments from a former spouse or other party during the year, you will need to report these payments as income on your tax return. You’ll need the total amount you received, as well as the payer’s SSN or tax ID number.
Profit and Loss Statements
Business owners need a profit and loss statement, which details business expenses and revenue across the year. You can typically get this from your accountant or bookkeeper, or you can create one yourself by gathering details about your operating costs, overhead expenses, earnings and profits.
1099-G
If you received unemployment income in the tax year you’re filing for, you should get a 1099-G form detailing how much you were paid. You also may get a 1099-G if you receive any state or local income tax refunds.
1099-INT, 1099-DIV or 1099-B
Taxpayers who receive interest payments on savings, investment, checking or other types of financial accounts will receive a 1099-INT. This form reports the full amount of interest earned across the year. This is considered taxable income on your returns.
If you earned money from dividends or distributions from any investments, you will also get a 1099-DIV. And if you sold any capital assets, like stocks, bonds or other securities, you’ll receive a 1099-B. This will detail your gains and losses on those assets, which could result in additional tax liabilities.
1099-S
If you sold real estate in the last year, you may receive a 1099-S, which details the closing date and the proceeds of the sale.
1099-Q
Taxpayers who receive money from a 529 education plan or Coverdell education savings account (ESA) will need a 1099-Q. This form shows your total distributions, their base costs and the earnings you received on your initial investment.
1099-SA
If you received distributions from a Health Savings Account, Medicare Medical Savings Account or Archer Medical Savings Account at any point in the year, you’ll get a 1099-SA form. You will need to report these distributions on your return, though they’re only taxable if you fail to use the funds on qualified medical expenses or you exceed the annual HSA contribution limit.
Records of Cryptocurrency Transactions
If you bought or sold cryptocurrency at any point in the year, you’ll need records of these transactions, as you’ll need to report them on your annual returns. They may also result in capital gains taxes.
Proof of Any Other Income
There are many other forms of income you may have received throughout the year, and you’ll need to report all of it. This can include income earned from royalties, prizes, awards and gambling earnings.
Deductions
Deductions allow you to reduce your taxable income and therefore your total tax liability. To take advantage of these, though, you’ll need documentation to prove that you incurred the eligible expense, as well as how much it cost you.
Here are some of the documents you may need to maximize your tax deductions.
Health Insurance Costs
If you’re self-employed and must cover the costs of health insurance without the help of an employer, you can typically deduct the entirety of your premiums each year. If you have a marketplace plan, you’ll receive a Form 1095-A that will detail how much you spent on premiums. If you have a private plan, you’ll need to see your plan documents for the total premium cost.
Business Expenses
If you’re self-employed, own a business or work from home, you may be able to write off certain business and home office expenses. You’ll need receipts for any purchased items and a record of the mileage you’ve driven for your business.
If you have a home office, you should also have copies of any bills for utilities, electricity, rent or mortgage and other costs associated with the overall property. While you can’t deduct all of these, you may be able to write off a portion of them, depending on how much of your overall property your home office takes up.
A quick note for educators: You can also write off the costs of classroom expenses and supplies. You’ll need receipts for these purchases and are limited to up to $300 in deductions.
Form 5498
Contributions to many types of retirement accounts are tax-deductible. Your account administrator should send you a Form 5498 detailing your total contributions, as well as any rollovers from the previous year. Keep in mind there are limits to how much of your contributions you can deduct depending on the type of account.
Charitable Donations
Many charitable donations qualify as a write-off. For example, if you donate clothing or furniture to a local shelter, you can often deduct the total value of those items from your taxable income. Just make sure you donate to a qualifying tax-exempt organization and get an itemized receipt for each donation.
Medical and Dental Expenses
If you incur a significant amount of medical or dental expenses across the year and exceed 7.5 percent of your total adjusted gross income, you may qualify for a write-off. To calculate how much you’ve spent in a year, contact your doctors, dentists and any medical professionals you’ve seen and ask for an account statement. You can also check with your insurance company to see what your out-of-pocket spending was for the year.
Form 1098-E
If you, your spouse or a dependent has a student loan and you paid interest on it, you can deduct that total amount from your taxable income up to $2,500 annually. You should get a 1098-E in the mail from your student loan servicer, which will detail how much interest you paid for the year.
Form 1098
In the event you bought a house or refinanced in the last year, you likely paid mortgage loan interest and qualify for a deduction. Your mortgage lender should send you a Form 1098 that breaks down how much you paid in interest, mortgage insurance and mortgage points.
State and Local Tax Records
Taxpayers can deduct up to $10,000 in state and local taxes (SALT) on their annual returns. These include things like property taxes, sales taxes and state income taxes. Your state tax returns can help here, as can your annual property tax bill.
Credits
Tax credits are similar to deductions, but instead of reducing your taxable income, they’re a dollar-for-dollar reduction on your actual tax bill. See below for the documents you’ll need to take advantage of various tax credits.
Form 1095-A
If you have a marketplace health insurance plan, you may be eligible for a tax credit depending on your income level. You can choose to use this toward your monthly premiums or your total annual tax bill. Either way, you’ll get a 1095-A Health Insurance Marketplace Statement at the end of each year. This will detail your policy data, covered individuals and total premiums, which you can then use to file your returns.
Childcare Provider Details
If you pay for childcare for dependents, you could qualify for a tax credit of up to $3,000. You’ll need to provide your childcare provider’s name, address and SSN or tax identification number. If you don’t have this information, you can request it using a Form W-10.
Adoption Costs
Adopting a child often comes with a tax credit, equal to the amount of the total qualified adoption expenses up to a certain limit. This can include legal fees, adoption agency fees, court costs and other expenses. So you’ll want receipts for any of these services on hand as you file your returns.
Form 1098-T
If you, your spouse or your child is enrolled in a higher education program, you may be eligible for the American Opportunity Credit based on your tuition. You’ll get a 1098-T detailing the total tuition you paid each year and can write off the first $2,500 of it.
Payments
Some taxpayers make payments to the IRS at non-tax season times. If this happens, you’ll need this payment data on hand as you file your returns, as it could impact what you owe and what refund you’re due.
Previous Refunds
You have the option of having your tax refund sent directly to you or having it applied to a future tax bill. If you opted for the second, you’ll want the amount of that applied refund with you as you file your returns. This will reduce the total amount of taxes you owe for the year.
Proof of Estimated Tax Payments
Self-employed professionals, sole proprietors and other types of taxpayers are required to make estimated tax payments quarterly throughout the year. If you’re one of them, you’ll want the payment confirmations from those payments, as well as their total amount. These will help determine if you owe additional taxes or are due a refund.

I feel embarrassed to ask this, but I don’t really understand how to work smarter not harder. I’m always getting more and more work because people are impressed that I’m getting work done and on time, so I’m not sure how some people are seemingly able to do their jobs well but not be expected to do more work. Anytime I’ve tried working smarter not harder, I feel like I’ve just been caught not working and I don’t think that’s how it’s suppose to work. For example, I’m in charge of reviewing certain reports that are emailed to me and they are lists of orders that customers have made that the system flagged for “issues”. I used to look at all of them but after some time, I realized some of them are useless because no one asked me about them, so I only did the ones people asked me about. One time the person who makes the reports asked me about one of the useless reports and why I didn’t bring this to his attention sooner. I lied and said I must’ve missed it, but now this means I have to review all of them. About a week ago, my manager left on a trip to Spain and had given me a task to look over some income tax documents, but had specifically said he didn’t expect me to have the answers or know what to do with the information so he’d go over them with me when he returned. To pretend I was going to review the information I opened some of the files up and glanced over them. I was going to lie about being busy while he was gone and therefore didn’t get a chance to do anything when he returned. When he did return he was annoyed I didn’t do anything he asked me to do and then just proceed to move forward with the income tax return as if I did what he asked me to. Now before anyone thinks I’m just a lazy and terrible employee, I’ve always given my 110% at any job I’ve been at. However I was only ever rewarded with more work or I was taken advantage of. I’m sick and tired of being treated like that. My current manager is an asshole that thinks throwing you into projects without any training or information is a form of learning, so I’m constantly filled with anxiety. He’ll even lie about certain things to “test” me and when you ask him questions, he’ll tell you figure it out.

on otw's $2.5 million budget surplus: for fuck's sake do something with our money
the recent ddos attack on ao3 illustrated that the otw (@transformativeworks) has amazing volunteers who were able to get things up and running again after a cyberattack. and i’ve seen a bunch of different people urging others to donate to otw in light of the attack.
the problem? not only are the volunteers not going to get any of the money, but the otw likely isn’t going to do anything else with it, because they already have more than $2.5 million in budget surplus that they have not been transparent about with their members, and that they have no plans for.
yup. we’ve known for years that otw had at least $1 million in their “reserves”; they’ve said so at their last two public finance meetings in 2021 and 2022. but a few months ago, @manogirl and i went digging a little deeper because we suspected that there was even more.
and we were right. from the documentation available, our estimate is that at the beginning of 2023, they had $2,585,841 that was not dedicated to any purpose. this does not include money they had budgeted to spend in 2023 on regular expenses. just extra. (keep reading to see how we got that figure.)
equally appalling? they have all this money and are barely earning any interest on it. satsuma on dreamwidth looked at their 2021 tax returns and found that only ~$10k of their money is held in an interest-bearing savings account, which resulted in them earning only $90 in interest income for 2021. the rest of it is not in interest-bearing accounts. it is just sitting there.
looking at all the crises and dysfunction that have been discussed and uncovered over the past few months - racist harassment and the three-year-old promise to hire a diversity consultant; the mistreatment of volunteers by the otw board both related to last year’s CSEM attacks, and, separately, mistreatment and racism towards chinese and chinese diaspora volunteers both in the past and recently with the closure of the otw’s weibo account; and of course, this latest ddos attack - all of this indicates that there is severe dysfunction within the org. and donors throwing more money at the organization clearly isn’t helping.
the otw board needs to get its shit together and hire people to help with these things. this is not a new idea - there’s been talk for years about hiring paid staff, and in fact, at their july 2021 board meeting, otw said they would be appointing a volunteer who would be known as the “paid staff officer”, to come up with a plan for hiring paid staff. (to be clear, the “paid staff officer” would be an unpaid volunteer.) it’s been two years since that commitment. they have not, to my knowledge, appointed that officer yet.
it’s infuriating, because otw’s “scrappiness” as an organization is constantly used to defend their obstruction of action on things like racism, and this ddos attack will be used to further that agenda as well. but otw doesn’t need to be scrappy. they are well-resourced and could be using that money to set up more sustainable systems, instead of burning out and mistreating their volunteers, and reneging on commitments to address racism and harassment.
at the very least, if they’re not going to do anything with their massive budget surplus, they should stop taking more of people’s money. but we’d rather they did something useful with it.
if you want to see this change, the otw finance commitee holds a public meeting where you can ask questions and give them feedback. last year it was in mid-october. you do not have to be an otw member to attend. i'll definitely be making noise about it once the date is announced, but you can also follow otw's socials.
one brief aside: at the time of posting, a lot of these links are not working because the otw's website is still down. i copied these links from a twitter thread i made in the past and they should all be correct, so you just may have to wait until the site is back up to look at them.
now, to debunk some common excuses that people (not otw representatives, mind you, but just people on the internet who have decided to defend the org) give when confronted with how much money otw has:
MYTH: otw needs to keep $2.5 million in cash reserves in case of an emergency or unexpected revenue shortfall. REALITY: it’s true that nonprofits do need SOME cash reserves for those cases. typical practice is to have 3-6 months’ worth of operating expenses. otw’s current operating expenses are ~$520,000/year, so 6 months would be $260,000. (and, in fact, when i was told by an otw finance committee member that they had $1 million, they were intending 25% of that to be for emergencies, around $250,000). if you were being REALLY cautious, you could have reserves up to one to two years. but $2.5 million is enough for almost FIVE YEARS OF OPERATING EXPENSES. that is an absurd amount to be hoarding, especially when otw’s history of fundraising is that they always exceed their goals, and always make more money in donations than they need for their expenses within a given year. MYTH: they need this money for legal costs if they get sued. REALITY: otw gets most of their legal expenses donated, which is also not listed in their budget, but is in their audited financial statements. in 2021, the most recent financial statement we have, you can see on page 10 that they received just over $230k in donated legal expenses. they do budget some minor legal expenses yearly: in 2023 they’ve budgeted a little over $5k for “registration fees for conferences and hearings and funds set aside for legal filings if necessary, as well as an allocated share of newly adopted OTW-wide productivity tools”. however they do not have a history of even spending that much: in 2022, they had budgeted $4k for legal expenses and only spent $244 (see cell C29 of the budget spreadsheet). they have never been sued, and they do not appear to budget for litigation costs. and when, in the past, they’ve been asked about what their reserves are for (back in fall 2022 when the finance committee told me they had $1 million in reserves, even though this was patently false given their tax documents for 2021), litigation costs were not brought up.  MYTH: they just haven’t had enough time to figure out investment options. REALITY: they clearly have at least one savings account set up to generate interest, which only has $10k in it. even if they haven’t figured out a full investment portfolio, why wouldn’t they put more money in that account? in the u.s., the federal deposit insurance corporation (FDIC) insures bank accounts up to $250,000, so they should have at least that much in there. absurd. also, they have had plenty of time even for a larger portfolio. if you search “investment” on their site, you’ll see that they’ve been talking for YEARS about investing their reserves. more specifically, at both their 2021 and 2022 finance meetings, they said that they needed more time to research investment options. as usual, they have had far more time than they need.  MYTH: they need this money for new servers. REALITY: otw does in fact include expenses for new servers and server maintenance in their yearly budget reports. you can see this in their 2023 budget spreadsheet if you go to the sheet “program expenses” - under “archive of our own”, you’ll see server expenses. the $2.5 million is money that is EXTRA to their listed expenses and revenue in that spreadsheet.
finally, see below where we’ve given more context on otw’s budgeting and showed our work in coming up with these numbers.
showing our work
firstly, i should note for the record that i sent a message to the otw finance committee through the contact us form on the otw website on may 11, 2023 to ask them to state the amount in their reserves.
Tumblr media
it has been two months and i have still not received a response (which i find funny, because at the last otw board meeting in early july, the board specifically said to use that form to contact the finance commitee if we had questions about the 2023 budget), so @manogirl and i were forced to do our own math. we've had this work checked by a number of people, but of course we were only able to work with the information the otw has made publicly available.
a few things you need to know about the otw’s budgeting:
they release yearly budget reports on their website (here’s their most recent one, which shows what they project for 2023 and their “actuals” for 2022), but they do not include their surplus in this report - they only include the revenue and expenses for each year
they also provide both their yearly audited financial statements and their yearly tax returns (form 990s) on their reports & governing documents page, but currently, the most recent statements we have are from 2021
otw typically raises more money in donations than they need within a year, so their surplus is always growing
they have used the term “reserves” in the past to talk about money, but we don’t know exactly what they mean by “reserves” - is there a dedicated account that they consider their reserves?
because of these uncertainties, the goal for @manogirl and i was was to figure out how much of a budget surplus OTW had at the beginning of 2023, and because we don’t know how they define “reserves”, we defined it as how much they had in liquid assets that were not being dedicated for a specific purpose in their budget. (liquid assets are anything that can be converted into cash quickly – e.g. not equipment like their servers, nor anything that would be held in a long-term investment account, etc)
the first document we looked at was their 2021 audited financial statement. the key number is on page 11, under the section on liquidity, where it lists their end-of-year liquid assets as $2,315,841.
Tumblr media
so at the end of 2021, they had over $2.3 million in liquid assets.
but since their 2022 audited financial statement isn’t up, we had to turn to their 2023 budget, and specifically, to their 2023 budget spreadsheet, where they show the “actuals” (what they actually raised & spent in each line item) for 2022 in column C. as i mentioned, they don’t list their reserves in this spreadsheet - only the revenue generated & expenses paid within that year, not anything carrying over from the previous year unless clearly outlined.
so at the bottom you’ll see that their net income (revenue minus expenses) in 2022 was $493,564.94, and that they then transferred $400,000 of that to the reserves sometime in 2022.
Tumblr media
and the remaining $93,564.94, their adjusted net income for 2022, presumably carries over to help pay initial expenses in 2023 before they started earning more revenue. they also transferred $130,000 of their reserves BACK to help with that at the start of 2023.
Tumblr media
so now we have the numbers we need to calculate the surplus (including reserves) at the start of 2023:
$2,315,841 (liquid assets at end of 2021) + $400,000 (transferred to reserve in 2022) - $130,000 (transferred from reserve in 2023) = $2,585,841 USD at the start of 2023
so that’s our math. otw had $2.5 million at the beginning of this year in surplus, in addition to around $223k (last year’s $93.5k in income and the $130k they transferred back from the reserves at the beginning 2023) to fund their expenses for the first half of this year. this does not even include the hundreds of thousands they raised in april 2023 during their fundraising drive.
okay the main part of our documentation is done, but if you want to read a little bit more about what @manogirl and i learned from doing this deep dive, here are a few additional thoughts/nuggets:
first of all, OTW is incorporated in the u.s. state of delaware, which is interesting because as @manogirl researched, delaware is a tax haven where 501c3 nonprofits don’t have to pay any business tax. plus, in many u.s. states, nonprofits have a limit on the amount of money they can keep without spending, but this too is not the case in delaware. of course, incorporating in delaware to take advantage of those benefits is not illegal! but it is very savvy, a characteristic that seems to have not continued with their financial management past their original incorporation lol
next, some more detail on their finances from their 2023 budget spreadsheet. let’s start with revenue.
the most interesting thing to me here is that while their spring and fall membership drive donations bring in the most, non-drive donations are also substantial. also their “total unrestricted net revenue received” is $975,638.36 in cell C16. however, for some reason, when they calculate their net income for the year, they use cell 12, “total unrestricted revenue” ($1,012,543.42) instead. the difference between those two cells is that cell 12 is the amount before their transaction fees are subtracted. but i have no idea why the transaction fees would be ignored when calculating their net income. is this an error?
next, their expenses, which came out to $518,978.48. not too much surprised me here except how low their legal advocacy spending still is, plus  the fact that they’d given francesca coppa a grant for her book on the history of fanvidding, lol. (i’ve written more about this; so has wistfuljane on dreamwidth if you scroll down a bit from here).
it’s also interesting to look at what they’ve budgeted (both the revenue & expenses they’ve expected going into the year) for 2022. in every revenue category, they have exceeded their goal, except for $50 in “other income”. and in most of their expenses categories they have overestimated their needs, except for going over about $700 in the transformative works & cultures, & about $500 for development. this just shows how much they are able to meet their yearly expenses (overestimated) with the revenue generated each year (underestimated), & still have substantial amounts left over (almost half of revenue transferred to reserves)
so that’s what we’ve found. if anyone else notices weird things in their budgeting, please let us know!

the coffee shop encounter
This is Part 2. Part 1 will be linked below.
t/w: sugar mommy!reader & sugar baby!Bada, adult!reader & minor!Bada, accusations, little bit of angst
a/n: hi guys! I hope you enjoyed part 1, and if you haven’t read it yet then please read that before you read this but for the best understanding (linked above)!!
=====================================
You hadn’t heard from Bada or her parents in a few days, so you just assumed that they said no and Bada forgot about it, that was until one day you received a phone call from Bada.
“Hi unnie, can you come over to my house today? My address is ***” “sure! I can come, do you need me to bring anything?” “Umm.. I don’t think so” “okay I’ll see you later” “okay bye unnie!”. She sounds cheery, maybe her parents decided in favour of you.
You’re currently in your company building so you decide that it’s probably best to grab some documents before you go just in case Bada’s parents aren’t sure about you.
After grabbing everything that you may need, you get into your car and drive to the address that Bada told you on the phone. It’s a beautiful little house and you gather your belongings before walking up to the door, you quickly fix your clothes before ringing the doorbell, you looked professional as you always do for a day at the company.
Bada opens the door, flashing her gorgeous smile to you and welcoming you in, she points to a pair of slippers she has at the door for you so you slip your heels off and replace them with the comfy slippers before following Bada into the main room where both of her parents are sat.
“Hello Mr and Mrs..” “Lee” the man replies, “ah Mr and Mrs Lee and.. random person it’s nice to meet you, I’m Y/N L/N” “it’s nice to meet you Y/N, this is our lawyer” “so we want to know the basic arrangement first off” “I understand, I would like to support your daughter financially to help her to gain as much experience as possible to help her gain her dream job, all I want in return is to spend time with her” “and about global opportunities?” “I want her to have a look for opportunities that she’d like to do and I’ll pay for the trip and I will go with her, if she’s not comfortable I will get 2 hotel rooms but it’s completely up to Bada”.
“I’ll completely support Bada financially, I’ll pay for her trips, opportunities, dance classes and living expenses, she’ll also have disposable income from me”. “How often would you want to see her?” “At least 1 hour, once a week but it’s completely up to Bada, I am flexible so if there is a week where maybe she’s ill as long as she contacts me to let me know beforehand”.
“Do you have limitations?” “Obviously nothing sexual as she’s a minor and anything that Bada is uncomfortable with is a limit as far as I’m concerned. I would want this to be as comfortable for her as possible”.
“Hmm something seems fishy” “eomma” “you’re a 20 year old millionaire and you’re not a chaebol (nepo baby), how can we be sure you wouldn’t be dragging our daughter into some illegal activity?” “Eomma stop!!” Bada complains before running off to her room. “I understand your concern and I have documents with me which prove I am who I say I am and my profits are correct if you want to see them? I haven’t taken part in identity fraud, embezzlement or tax evasion”.
You hand the documents over to Bada’s parents as they have a look at them. They then hand the documents to their lawyer who confirms that the documents are correct. Bada’s mom holds your hands “Bada has been so excited about this opportunity, now that I’ve made sure that this is safe for her, who would I be if I took this away from her?” “That’s great, thank you!”.
“Could you go fetch Bada from her room?” Bada’s mom asks you “sure I’ll fetch her”. You walk towards Bada’s room, the door labelled with her name and a cute drawing of a wave to match. You knock on the door, “Bada, you okay?” The door is unlocked so you walk in to see Bada lying on her bed facing towards the wall so you can’t see her face.
“Bada” you lay a hand on her shoulder and she flips round to face you. She has obvious tear stains on her cheeks and red eyes. “Aw honey, it’s okay” you give her a hug, “I just can’t believe that my parents would accuse you of something like that”. “It’s okay baby, I completely understand your parents, you’re their little girl, they just want to protect you”.
She hugs you tightly, “I’m glad I’m not going to lose you”, “me? Or this opportunity?” “No you unnie, I noticed you as well in the cafe and I thought you were pretty and when you spoke to me I thought you were really nice and soft spoken”. “That’s so cute Bada, you’re so sweet” “do you think my parents would mind if I kissed you?” You chuckle, “I think so, I’m an adult and you’re a minor, I don’t think they’d be very impressed”. Bada leans closer, “well unnie, to be honest, I don’t care what they think” she turns her head and moves even closer, kissing your lips.
“Bada” “please be quiet unnie” she kisses your lips again. You can’t take it anymore and you pull her closer by her waist and kiss her passionately. Good thing her parents didn’t see.

Today’s Reminder that it’s not a Trump “hush money” trial. Hush money payments are generally legal.
It’s a Trump “Criminal Fraud” Trial.
Trump stands accused of violating criminal statutes on Election Fraud [17-152)] and on Tax Fraud [1801(a)(3) and 1802]
~~~~~~~~~~ELABORATION ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
New York Election Law § 17-152 prohibits a conspiracy to use “unlawful means” to promote or prevent a person’s election. The phrase “unlawful means” is interpreted broadly and is not limited to crimes but rather includes any conduct unauthorized by law. In denying Trump’s motion to dismiss, Justice Merchan upheld DA Bragg’s theory under this statute, namely: “the People allege that Defendant intended to violate N.Y. Election Law § 17-152 by conspiring to ‘promote the election of any person to a public office… by entering a scheme specifically for purposes of influencing the 2016 presidential election; and that they did so by ‘unlawful means,’ including by violating FECA through the unlawful individual and corporate contributions by Cohen, Pecker, and AMI; and… by falsifying the records of other New York enterprises and mischaracterizing the nature of the repayment for tax purposes.’ People’s Opposition at pg. 25
For the purposes of tax violations, Bragg relies on two related tax provisions: New York Tax Law §§ 1801(a)(3) & 1802. Section 1801(a) sets out relevant tax fraud acts, with subsection (3) prohibiting “knowingly suppl[ying] or submit[ting] materially false or fraudulent information in connection with any [tax] return, audit, investigation, or proceeding.” The tax fraud includes four elements: (1) a tax document filed, submitted or supplied; (2) falsity; (3) materiality; and (4) intent (willfulness). Any person who commits a tax fraud act, including under 1801(a)(3), is guilty, at a minimum, of criminal tax fraud in the fifth degree, a Class A misdemeanor crime under Section 1802, where the tax liability is less than $3,000. No additional mens rea is required, such as an intent to evade taxes or defraud the state. In this case, the primary alleged tax violation was Cohen falsely declaring the reimbursement as income, which artificially increased his tax liability. As Justice Merchan already found, however, an allegation of tax fraud where the state “was not financially harmed … and instead would wind up collecting more tax revenue” does not preclude the tax violation from being a predicate act for the first degree falsification of business records.
Round 1, Match 20
King Richard and Prince John (Robin Hood/English history) vs Cleopatra VII and Ptolemy XIII (Egyptian history)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Propaganda and history lesson under break.
King Richard and Prince John
Richard goes off to fight in the Crusades and John plots behind his back to steal and exploit the kingdom!
Poll Runner's Note: That's the Robin Hood legend, and there is some truth to it: While Richard was off on the crusade, John locked up Richard's chancellor Bishop Longchamp, set up his own royal court, and declared himself Richard's heir, over Richard's choice of their nephew Arthur (age 4). He even tried to have Richard declared legally dead so he could claim the throne (he had in fact been taken captive by the Duke of Austria and was then held for ransom by the Holy Roman Emperor). John left his wife to marry the King of France's sister so he'd support his claim, and basically started a civil war which lasted until Richard finally returned home. And that meant paying 100,000 pounds of silver in ransom. Everyone had to pay 25% of their property, on top of additional taxes.
Richard "forgave" John, in that he didn't have him killed and just confiscated most of his land, but he still officially declared his "hate and malevolence" towards John for over a year.
After Richard died five years later, John introduced yet more taxes, including England's first income tax. Why? To pay for a war with France to get back all the land that was lost when John asked the King of France to help him defeat Richard's supporters. A problem he himself caused by fighting with his brother!
Cleopatra VII and Ptolemy XIII
You know
Poll Runner's Note: I sure do, and now I'm going to tell everyone about it! Ptolemy XII, their father, had five children: Berenice, Cleopatra, Arsinoë, Ptolemy XIII, and Ptolemy XIV. Berenice had usurped Ptolemy XII's rule and was executed when he regained power, making Cleopatra his eldest living child. In his will, he declared that when he died Cleopatra and Ptolemy XIII should get married and reign as co-rulers of Egypt.
Ptolemy XII died when Cleopatra was about 18 and Ptolemy XIII was 11, and right from the start she was not interested in this co-ruler business. She started leaving his name off documents, leaving his face off the coins, and generally acting like she's the only ruler in Egypt. Unfortunately for her, Ptolemy's guardians weren't keen on being demoted from "power behind the throne" to "glorified babysitter", and they deposed Cleopatra and forced her to flee to Syria, where she raised an army and started a war against her brother. It didn't go well for her, and things were looking bad for her until Julius Caesar showed up with his army.
Caesar was 1) Already mad at Ptolemy's advisors for killing Pompey who he'd wanted to spare and 2) famously a huge slut so Cleopatra was pretty easily able to convince him to restore her to power.
It's at this point Arsinoë shows up with her army. She joins forces with Ptolemy XIII, declares herself Queen Arsinoë IV, and beseiges Cleopatra and Caesar in the palace complex. For five brutal months, they battled through the city. The fires are said to be how the Library of Alexandria was lost, which is probably a legend but it was still devastating. Ceasar himself almost drowned while fleeing Arsinoë's forces at the Battle of Pharos Island.
Finally Caesar's allies show up with their armies, and Ptolemy drowned trying to flee across the Nile while Arsinoë was taken prisoner. She was brought back to Rome as part of Caesar's triumph, but her life was spared and she lived out the rest of her days at the Temple of Artemis in Ephesus. This was about five years because Cleopatra later persuaded Mark Antony to have her murdered right there in the temple.
Cleopatra married her youngest brother Ptolemy XIV, before finally poisoning him so she could make her son Caesarion the new Pharaoh.
Cleopatra was at least partially responsible for the deaths of all her siblings except the one her father killed, and the struggles between them were devastating for Egypt and caused a lot of suffering. These are some legitimately awful siblings.
Hi! Thanks for your time and effort in creating your informational posts. Do you have anything about Saturn returns? My kid adult is coming up to his Saturn return and I can see he's feeling life is a little bit heavier. He's a Pisces so he's in his feels anyway but I was hoping I could ease the burden a bit by understanding more about it. I didn't know about Saturn returns until well past my own, and I remember that time as such a crisis. Thanks, Ms. Julia!
Tumblr media
All about Saturn Return
I always write for people who don't know anything about the subject, so feel free to skip this part.
First we need to know what is the Saturn Return, a planet return is when the planet returns to have the same sign that is in your birth chart, for example, Solar Return and Venus Return is normally each one year, Saturn's return is already every 28 to 30 years. But of course the Saturn Return is the most talked about of them all. And yeah, just a reminder, it normally takes 2 - 3 years to end your Saturn Return.
While it may sound intimidating, the Saturn Return can be a time of growth and transformation. Saturn is often associated with qualities like discipline, hard work, responsibility, and maturity, so this period can bring about important life changes and challenges. Therefore, even if for many this event is a very difficult part, for a small part it is something very good, because above all Saturn is about harvest.
Saturn's Return forces you to review four points in your life, so if you haven't questioned yourself about these matters and haven't done something about them, you will be even more challenged, which are them:
To be responsible for your own decisions, whether they are big or small, without looking for culprits;
Accept that life has its own pace and there are times when the only thing we can do is wait;
Faced your own shadow and knowing how you are anything but perfect or an “angel on this cursed land”;
Waked up from living a “fake” life;
Or making an analogy to better understand all this… I don't know if this exists in all countries, but adapt it to where you live, but I like to relate the Saturn Return to a large income tax return, every year those who work need to prove how much they earn and what they are spending it's equivalent to what you're saying what you earn... with that you need to have several documents as well as invoices... Those who keep all these files find it very easy to make such a statement... but who leaves it for the last minute…May even pay a fine.
During the first Saturn Return, which occurs in your late twenties, you may face issues related to your own identity and an area of your life like family, your house and career. It can be a time of self-discovery and introspection, where you face your fears, take responsibility for your choices, and make important decisions about your future. That's why you hear about the thirties crisis, people starting a college "out of nothing", ending marriages... It's a time to reap what you sowed.
The second Saturn Return, which occurs in your late fifties or early sixties, is another opportunity for reflection and re-evaluation. This can be a time to take stock of your life, align with your true values, and make changes that bring you closer to your life purpose. Just as it can be a period where you need to see how you are going to take care of your life, many have much older and weakened parents who need care, so it is a time to evaluate what needs to be done to continue with the best way possible to live, if the first Saturn Return was successful, this one will be even more successful (because Saturn likes old things you know).
Now here's the part that gets interesting... Saturn Return is an astrological event that has a lot of hype, but digging about this subject... I found that there's not as much information as I'd like, so we'll have parts that will be A LOT of my theory, so feel free to comment.
Saturn Placements
The star of our show, where Saturn is will be where you will be charged.
Saturn has already offered you more than 20 years of tests on the subject, because where your Saturn is in the Natal Chart is already an area that, even if you love it very much, you have a lot of difficulty
It’s a even funny thing to think but since you want to be soo good about where your Saturn is, is like everything you do to achieve is never good enough. But when you reach the age of 28/30, the moment of truth comes, how hard did you work to achieve your long term dreams? The signs speak of the greatest fears that need to be faced and the houses show where this battlefield will be.
Saturn Return: Saturn in Different Zodiac Signs
Saturn in Fire Signs
Fire signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) are known for their passion, creativity, and independent spirit. When Saturn is in a fire sign, its return may bring up issues related to self-expression, creativity, and personal goals.
A Saturn return in Aries can bring a much-needed dose of discipline to this impulsive sign, helping Aries natives to see their projects through to completion. In Leo, a Saturn return may focus on issues related to children, relationships, and creative self-expression. A Saturn return in Sagittarius may push you to reexamine your beliefs and philosophies and move beyond fanaticism.
However, Saturn's restrictive energy may also limit your creativity, pleasure, and moral compass during this time.
Saturn Return in Aries by house
The first house Saturn return in Aries is said to be the purest expression of a Saturn return in Aries, as the symbolism of Aries overlaps quite a bit with the symbolism of the first house. This return could involve becoming aware of physical aging and limitations of the physical body. However, it could also be a time to reinvent how the world sees you and try a new look, a name change, or a physical modification.
In the second house, having Saturn, the planet of restriction and limitation, could show that money does not come easily. However, Aries in the second house could show that one has the ability to get money quickly, even though they might be inclined to spend it just as quickly. A second house Saturn return in Aries could push one to get their finances in order and unlearn impulsive spending habits. It could also be an opportunity to accept one's own financial style and succeed on their own terms.
The third house is involved with communication, and having Saturn in this house could be associated with feeling like it is hard to communicate with others and make oneself understood. Aries in the third house might tend to think and talk fast, interrupting others often. At a third house Saturn return in Aries, one may need to make an intentional effort to learn how to listen to others. It could also be a time to address any aggressive communication tendencies and face the consequences of getting into fights.
In the fourth house, having Saturn could reflect feelings like one did not get the nurturing they need growing up, while Aries in this house might show that family dynamics include aggression or impulsivity. A fourth house Saturn return in Aries could push one to acknowledge how these dynamics have hurt them and seek more stability. Alternatively, one might want to claim the aggressive or impulsive tendencies from their heritage as their own and put their own spin on them.
The fifth house is associated with creativity and children, and a fifth house Saturn return in Aries could involve defining maturity on one's own terms instead of letting someone else tell them what is necessary to be an adult. Saturn in the fifth house might tend toward one’s inner child being overly serious, but Aries has a reputation for being a bit immature. This return could be an opportunity to balance the two and find a new understanding of what it means to be a mature adult.
The sixth house focuses on routine responsibilities and health, and having Saturn here can be associated with health problems or a very focused approach to staying healthy. Aries in the sixth house could show an impulsive approach to health, and a sixth house Saturn return in Aries could push one to get more serious about physically taking care of themselves. It could also give permission to listen to one's own intuition about how their body works best.
The seventh house is associated with significant one-on-one relationships, and having Saturn here suggests taking such relationships seriously.
