Why Nathuram Godse killed Gandhi? . . There are many reasons for that. Certainly, his last speech is a clear proof that he held no personal grudge against him. Gandhi strictly imposed non-voilence on everyone. Whenever his demands were not fulfilled he would fast unto death. His personal ideology at times harmed country's interest. He was furious when Gandhi accpeted Jinnah’s demand for Pakistan. No thought was given to the Hindus of Punjab, Bengal and other states across the border. Country was broken into pieces and a Nation was formed just on the basis of religion. Gandhi kept no condition for Pakistan because he knew that Jinnah would have no affect and he certainly would die out of hunger. Unlike India, the Hindus in Pakistan were forced to leave the country. Men, women and children were brutalised. One million people died. Gandhi's ideology of non violence, led to lots of violence. Sardar Patel had refused to grant fifty five crores to Pakistan from the exchequer. But on Gandhiji’s insistence the government policy had to be changed. Godse said, "I respect him for what Gandhiji has served the country, so I had bowed to him before shooting him, but he divided united India into two pieces, so I shot him." Godse's ashes are still kept in a room of buiding in Pune. It was his last wish, to keep his ashes until the Indus River was incorporated into independent India and established a united India. May it not happen. The Judge was astonished by his speech and commented that if India had followed the Jury system of giving judgments, Godse would have been adjudicated as "Not Guilty" by the Jury, cause after the speech, the whole audience was in tears. . .

Read the full article

That one line which changed the map of India and separated India and Pakistan. Story begins when the Partition of India was announced. Parliament of United Kingdom passed the Independence of India Act on 15th July 1947. It also stated that British rule in India will come to an end just after one month on 15th August 1947 and this act also stipulated partition of British India into two new nations India and Pakistan. The reason for partition was Pakistan always wanted to get settled as a muslim majority country. India remained secular. So as done by Britishers. Baluchistan, West Punjab and East Bengal region was given to Pakistan. Bengal and Punjab region also consisted of some Hindu and Sikh community respectively. To sort this out two Boundary Commissions were established- one for Bengal and one for Punjab. This was headed by Sir Cyril Radcliffe. The line was implemented after the Partition on 17th August 1947. It was named after him. When the line was implemented there were some problems: • Chittagong Hill Tracts had a moslty Buddhist population, but they were given to East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). • The Gurdaspur District was moslty Muslim, but was given to India. • Sometimes the line divided villages, so one part of the village was in each country. At other instances, it went through houses, different rooms of the same house were in different countries. Due to this border India and Pakistan were engaged several times in the war. Some major were 1947, 1965, 1971 and Kargil War of 1999. This border is considered as one of the worst creation in the History of India. The partition of India is a crucial event in the collective memory of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. . .
