In the light of a conversation that I just had with a friend, let me remind you, or perhaps tell you, if you are unaware, that just like the film franchise, the game “Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora” tells about events that had happened in our own history. It’s a story about children being stolen away from their families, stripped away from their cultures and forced to become soldiers that would fight on behalf of their enemies.
Real native children have been known to be taken away from their parents in America, then placed into non-native families and special residential schools to, quote, ""civilise"" them. Real children were forced to give up on everything they held dear, from religion to their own language, and listen to people around them degrade their heritage. Real children were forced to cut their hair, wear European clothes and even give up their NAMES for European ones, and it was totally legal until ICWA (Indian child safety act, among other laws) was established, and for your knowledge it had almost been overturned THIS YEAR.
The point of the game, as it was with the movies, is in part to bring awareness, to let people know that these things happened, that they were horrible, and offer to experience something similar first-hand, however fictional the setting may be.

Cadybear's MCs: The Ultimate Crash Course Masterlist (NOTE: List is subject to frequent updates)
Inspired by the MC Masterlists made by @aria-ashryver and @rosesnink. This list will include a brief rundown of each of my MCs, listed in alphabetical order by book/series. A link to each MC's profile will be provided if said profile exists. Or, at the very least, a link to an image of the MC's sprite will be provided.
Note: Some books will have multiple MCs that I make for them. And some books won't have any MCs. And some MCs will be incomplete WIPs.
MCs deemed as more "complete" or "official" characters– meaning, I have a committed appearance and enough details for them– will have their titles in the "Quote" text font.

Big Sky Country
I have yet to play this. I'll make a MC for it based on how much I like the book.
The Billionaire's Baby
This book is ranked in fourth place on my permanent choices shitlist. But I do have some ideas for what could have been for this book, so I might end up making a MC for an AU based around those ideas. Or maybe I'll make a MC for the sole purpose of making a headcanon where she and Cole/Callie break up and the baby is rescued from the hands of those two awful people and gets to be adopted by one of my other couples. We'll see.

Birthday: February 26, 1988 (approximately 30 in the story's timeline)
Gender: Trans Woman (she/her)
Ethnicity: Chinese American
Sexuality: This is Bloodbound. You already know the answer to that.
In-Game LI Pursued: Adrian Raines (white version), Jax Matsuo, Kamilah Sayeed, possibly Lily Spencer too.

Birthday: [Pending]
Gender: [Pending]
Ethnicity: [Pending]
Sexuality: Bi
In-Game LI Pursued: [Pending]

Additional Notes: Haha I chose a rose-based name as the first name to the MC with the default last name Rose. Eye think eye am funni
The Crown and The Flame
The MCs in this book are not customizable in any way.
A Courtesan of Rome
I liked this book, but I don't have a lot of ideas for a MC.
The Cursed Heart: [Name Pending]

Gender: Cis Man (he/him)
Ethnicity: East Asian
Sexuality: mlw
In-Game LI Pursued: Kieran (female version, race still pending)
Endgame LI Headcanon: Kieran
Additional Notes: [Pending]
The Deadliest Game
This books seems like such a breath of fresh air. But I'm also hesitant to play the stories that have blatant use of AI generated content. Seriously, the cover is just grotesque.
Desire and Decorum
I have yet to play this. I'll make a MC for it based on how much I like the book.
Dirty Little Secrets: Dick Ryder
Book Playthrough Status: Currently in progress
Birthday: July 14, 1993 (approximately 30 in the story's timeline)
Gender: Cis Man (he/him)
Ethnicity: Korean-American (East Asian sprite)
Sexuality: Straight
In-Game LI Pursued: Peg King (Hispanic Charlotte King)
Endgame LI Headcanon: Peg King
Additional Notes: "Dick Ryder" may or may not be a pornstar name. "Peg King" is 100% real tho.
Distant Shores
I wanted to like this one. Maybe I'll like it more when I give it a replay.
The Duchess Affair
I have yet to play this. I'll make a MC for it based on how much I like the book.
The Elementalists: [Name Pending]

Book Playthrough Status: I've played the series once, but not quite with this official MC
Birthday: [pending]
Gender: Cis Woman (she/her)
Ethnicity: [Pending]
Sexuality: wlm
In-Game LI Pursued: I might have her romance Jake McKenzie
Endgame LI Headcanon: I think she'd like Jake McKenzie, but not enough for a committed romance. Her true love is Raj Bhandarkar. But it won't last because I'm probably gonna choose the Vaanu ending for her.
Additional Notes: [Pending]
Endless Summer: BJ Kingsley
Book Playthrough Status: I've played the series once, but not quite with this official MC
Birthday: [pending]
Gender: Cis Man (she/her)
Ethnicity: [Pending]
Sexuality: mlw
In-Game LI Pursued: Estela Montoya
Endgame LI Headcanon: He becomes handfasted with Estela, and they likely stay together because he chooses either the Endless or the Rourke ending.
Additional Notes: [Pending]
Filthy Rich
This book is clearly just Untameable: Billionaire Edition. And I'm sure I've already made it very clear how much I hate Untameable. Also it almost certainly has an AI-generated cover.
First Comes Love
This book is ranked in second place on my permanent choices shitlist. But I might also wanna make a MC for the sole purpose of making a headcanon where she and Blake break up MC is disowned by all her friends for being a FemCeL while Rebecca is welcomed into the friends group. We'll see.
Foreign Affairs
I have yet to play this. I'll make a MC for it based on how much I like the book.
The Freshman Series: [Name Pending]
Book Playthrough Status: Haven't played it yet
Birthday: Born in 1998 (approximately 18 at the start of the story)
Gender: GNC Cis Woman (she/her)
Ethnicity: East Asian
Sexuality: Bi
In-Game LI Pursued: [Pending]
Endgame LI Headcanon: [Pending]
Additional Notes: [Pending]
Getaway Girls
I'm looking forward to playing this one and making the MC for it. But I don't have a lot of ideas. So I'm gonna play the book first and then come up with the MC as I go along.
The Ghost of Us
I wanna make an official MC of this book solely so I can make Ghost (1990) references. But I can't decide whether to base her off of Molly Jensen or Oda Mae Brown.
Guarded
This book looks like it's just Witness and RCD made a baby. I might play it, but I have zero interest in making a MC for it. Or maybe I'll make a male MC. We'll see.
Guinevere
I have yet to play this. I'll make a MC for it based on how much I like the book. Probably gonna have male Arthur and female Lancelot tho.
The Haunting of Braidwood Manor: Kara [Last Name Pending]
Book Playthrough Status: I've played this about 4 times, but none of which have this official MC
Birthday: [Pending]
Gender: Cis Woman (she/her)
Ethnicity(+SpriteRace):
Sexuality:
In-Game LI Pursued: Eleanor Waverly (but I might have her flirt with Victor a bit too)
Endgame LI Headcanon: Eleanor Waverly
Additional Notes: [Pending]
Hearts on Fire
This book's actual premise was such a disappointment. Of fucking course we have to be a newbie firefighter and of fucking course the LI is our boss and of fucking course the LI saves the MC. I might still play a mlw route though. Then again, those bomber jackets might have been AI generated.
The Heist: Monaco: Otto
Book Playthrough Status: Currently in progress
Birthday: July 27, 1994 (approximately 25 during the story's timeline)
Gender: GNC Cis Woman
Ethnicity: Indian (Brown/Hispanic Sprite)
Sexuality: Straight
In-Game LI Pursued: Possibly Rye
Endgame LI Headcanon: She has very intense hate sex with Ansel Crane, but who she has as an actual official lover is still pending. It might be Rye.
Additional Notes: The name "Otto" is a cover name. She picked it because she loves the movie "A Fish Called Wanda" and Otto is her favorite character from that movie. Her real name is classified. Also she's Evie's estranged Aunt on her mom's side.
The Heist Monaco: Bill
Book Playthrough Status: Waiting for Otto's playthrough to be completed first
Birthday: [Pending]
Gender: GNC Cis Man
Ethnicity: East Asian-European
Sexuality: Straight
In-Game LI Pursued: Eris Huang
Endgame LI Headcanon: Eris Huang
Additional Notes: The name "Bill" is a cover name. His real name is classified.
Hero: [Official Name and Superhero Name Both Pending]
Book Playthrough Status: I've played the book once, but not with this MC
Birthday: [Pending]
Gender: Cis Woman (she/hers)
Ethnicity: [Pending]
Sexuality: Straight
In-Game LI Pursued: She likes both Grayson Prescott and Kenji Katsaros, but will probably mainly pursue Grayson
Endgame LI Headcanon: [Pending]
Additional Notes: She has a huge special interest in MHA, and will probably pick her superhero name based off of All Might.
High School Story Prime Mobile Game: Jordan Price
Book Playthrough Status: Currently in progress. I might restart with an APK modded version in order for a more complete and thorough playthrough (some quests got nerfed after the shutdown in August 2022 + the game would probably be much better to play with infinite rings mod).
Birthday: April 21, 1998 (approximately 14 at the start of the game)
Gender: GNC Cis Woman
Ethnicity: Black-Indian
Sexuality: Straight
In-Game LI Pursued: Has a relationship with a prep boy named Daniel
Endgame LI Headcanon: Her relationship with Daniel does not last, as he eventually moves away. She gets with Julian Castillo during the OG HSS Trilogy timeline.
Additional Notes: Part of the "Nerd" clique.
High School Story OG Trilogy: Evie Ayana
Book Playthrough Status: Multiple playthroughs completed, with possibly more pending.
Birthday: March 8, 2001 (approximately 16-17 during the OG HSS story and 17-18 during HSS:CA)
Gender: GNC Cis Woman (she/her)
Ethnicity: Indian with some European and possibly Turkish heritage (Brown/Hispanic sprite)
Sexuality: Bi with a male preference
In-Game LI Pursued: Aiden Zhou
Endgame LI Headcanon: Marries Aiden Zhou post series, they have an open marriage.
Additional Notes: Jock in all three books; Is fairly experienced at football, very experienced at basketball, and a newbie to baseball.
High School Story OG Trilogy: Alan Parke
Book Playthrough Status: Currently in progress
Birthday: May 20, 2001 (approximately 16-17 during the OG HSS story and 17-18 during HSS:CA)
Gender: GNC Cis Man (he/him)
Ethnicity: East Asian-European (Caucasian sprite)
Sexuality: Heteroflexible Sexually + Heteroromantic
In-Game LI Pursued: Emma Hawkins, but I also plan to do a Maria route for him at some point
Endgame LI Headcanon: [Pending]
Additional Notes: Cheerleader in all three books; has been doing cheer, dance, and gymnastics from a very young age. She is also very experienced in running.
High School Story OG Trilogy: Violet Jones
Book Playthrough Status: Waiting for current playthrough to finish
Birthday: [Pending]
Gender: GNC Cis Woman (she/her)
Ethnicity: Black/African-American
Sexuality: wlm
In-Game LI Pursued: Michael Harrison
Endgame LI Headcanon: [Pending]
Additional Notes: Jock in all three books, but she's very inexperienced with sports. She's more of a musician. However, band doesn't exactly have much space for guitarists.
High School Story OG Trilogy: Samara [Last Name Pending]
Book Playthrough Status: Waiting for current playthrough to finish
Birthday: [Pending]
Gender: GNC Cis Woman (she/her)
Ethnicity: Lebanese (Caucasian sprite)
Sexuality: wlm
In-Game LI Pursued: Caleb Mitchell
Endgame LI Headcanon: [Pending]
Additional Notes: Jock in all three books, but she's inexperienced in most of it. Her athletic talents lie primarily in wrestling.
High School Story: Class Act: Cher Lee
Book Playthrough Status: A playthrough has been done for her, but a more focused one is still pending.
Birthday: January 12, 2004
Gender: Gender-Creative Cis Woman (she/her)
Ethnicity: White European
Sexuality: Bi-curious wlm
In-Game LI Pursued: Ajay Bhandari
Endgame LI Headcanon: She and Ajay Bhandari might break up at some point during her sophomore year, but then might also reunite years later older and wiser and get married.
Additional Notes: Her twin brother is named Bear Lee, and he is a trans man (he/him).
High School Story: Class Act: [Name Pending]
Book Playthrough Status: Waiting until Cher's playthrough is completed.
Birthday: January 12, 2004
Gender: Cis Man (he/him)
Ethnicity: [Pending]
Sexuality: mlw
In-Game LI Pursued: I hope to try routes for both Rory Silva (female version, race still pending) and Skye Crandall.
Endgame LI Headcanon: [Pending]
Additional Notes: Twin sister's name is still pending.
Hollywood U Mobile Game: Bailey [Last Name Pending]
Book Playthrough Status: On indefinite hiatus, due to the game's shutdown in August 2022. At some point, I hope to try one of those APK modded versions.
Birthday: [Pending]
Gender: [Pending]
Ethnicity: [Pending]
Sexuality: [Pending]
In-Game LI Pursued: [Pending]
Endgame LI Headcanon: [Pending]
Additional Notes: [Pending]
Home for the Holidays
I liked this book, but I don't have a lot of ideas for my MC's character. I might return to this after a replay.
Hot Couture
I have yet to play this. I'll make a MC for it based on how much I like the book.
Hot Shot
100% sure that cover is AI generated. Also I have a feeling that the "I don't want to play books that use AI generated content" is gonna bite me in the ass one way or another.
Immortal Desires: Sam [Last Name Pending]
Book Playthrough Status: I've played the book once, but I have yet to do an official playthrough for it
Birthday: [Pending]
Gender: Cis Male (he/him)
Ethnicity: [Pending]
Sexuality: This is a vampire story in Choices. What do you think his sexuality is?
In-Game LI Pursued: Gabriela Adalhard (Native American version) and Cassie Harlow (Black version)
Endgame LI Headcanon: He and Gabe and Cas have a three-way relationship with each other
Additional Notes: Naming the MC "Sam" in the book with "Desire" in the title is pure coincidence, I assure you. I just really like the name Sam.
It Lives in the Woods: Jo Hunter
Book Playthrough Status: Completed, but a couple of other playthroughs are pending
Birthday: April 22, 1999 (18 during the ILITW timeline, approximately 21-22 during the ILB and ILW timelines)
Gender: GNC Cis Woman (she/hers)
Ethnicity: Chinese (East Asian sprite)
Sexuality: Straight
In-Game LI Pursued: Lucas Thomas, but I plan to do a playthrough where she romances Andy Kang as well. In the Lucas route, she does flirt with Andy and Connor Green as well.
Endgame LI Headcanon: Marries Lucas Thomas, but I might eventually change it into a three-way relationship that includes Andy Kang
Additional Notes: She and all of her friends survive Redfield/Jane's game. She chooses to let Noah become the monster.
It Lives Beneath: Harper Addison Vance-Fisher
Book Playthrough Status: Completed
Birthday: July 12, 1998 (approximately 19 during the ILITW timeline, 21-22 during the ILB timeline, and 22 during the ILW timeline)
Gender: Genderfluid Demigirl (she/her/they/them, but is sometimes okay with he/him)
Ethnicity: Still pending (Brown/Hispanic sprite), though I headcanon her step-dad is Jewish/Hebrew
Sexuality: Bi-curious wlm
In-Game LI Pursued: Mainly Tom Sato, but they also feel attraction for Parker Shaw and Imogen Wescott
Endgame LI Headcanon: Tom Sato
Additional Notes: She and all of her friends and her grandpa all survive by the end.
It Lives Within Fanproject: Cedric Zhao
Book Playthrough Status: Completed, but a couple of other playthroughs are pending
Birthday: October 4 (unsure about the year and age, I'll have to review the ILW timeline later)
Gender: GNC Cis Man (he/him)
Ethnicity: Chinese (East Asian sprite)
Sexuality: Heteroflexible and Polyamorous
In-Game LI Pursued: Jocelyn Wu, but I plan to do a playthrough where he romances Amalia de Leon
Endgame LI Headcanon: [Pending]
Additional Notes: He takes on a mostly genuine personality with a side of sarcasm. He mainly follows the Blood route, having some interest in learning the source of his power, but ultimately wanting to live his normal life. In my first playthrough, he got stabbed by Mattyass and died, but I hope to get a better outcome for him in a replay.
Kindred
I have yet to play this. I'll make a MC for it based on how much I like the book.
Kiss of Death
I have yet to play this. I'll make a MC for it based on how much I like the book.
Laws of Attraction: Anjali [Last Name Pending]
Book Playthrough Status: I've played the series once, but not with this official MC
Birthday: [Pending]
Gender: Cis Woman (she/her)
Ethnicity: Indian (Brown/Hispanic sprite)
Sexuality: Bi with a male preference
In-Game LI Pursued: She likes both Gabe Ricci (East Asian version) and Aislinn Tanaka, and Joaquin Morales
Endgame LI Headcanon: [Pending]
Additional Notes: [Pending]
LoveHacks
I liked this story, but I wasn't quite invested in it enough to make a MC for it. Maybe when I give it a replay, I'll make a MC for it.
Most Wanted
The MCs in this book are not customizable in any way.
Mother of the Year
I liked this story a lot, but I'm currently still way too indecisive about the names and appearance I want for the MC and her daughter.
Ms. Match
I did not care enough for this book to make an official MC for it. Though I will say, the highlight of this story was that I named my MC "Perfect Match" for the sole purpose of eventually hearing someone say the title of the movie in the movie. Sure enough, I got that wish fulfilled around Ch 11-12.
Murder at Homecoming: Peggy Stone
Book Playthrough Status: Completed, but needs a more focused replay
Birthday: September 14, 2005 (approximately 17 during the story's timeline)
Gender: GNC Cis Woman (she/her)
Ethnicity: Black/African-American
Sexuality: Straight
In-Game LI Pursued: Tyler Woods (white version)
Endgame LI Headcanon: She marries Tyler Woods years later
Additional Notes: I might change "Valentine" to a different name in my headcanons.
My Two First Loves
This book is... well, it's not quite on my Choices shitlist, but it still annoyed me enough that I do not want to make a MC for it. Or maybe I might, for the sole purpose of pairing her off with Ava, pretending Mason and Noah get together as endgame, and then Ava breaks up with her. We'll see.
The Nanny Affair: Eh IDC
Book Playthrough Status: Completed, but it might be fun to do one more playthrough
Birthday: February 2, 1991 (approximately 29-30 during the story's timeline)
Gender: Cis Woman (she/her)
Ethnicity: Still pending (but uses the brown/Hispanic sprite)
Sexuality: wlm
In-Game LI Pursued: Samuel Dalton (white version)
Endgame LI Headcanon: [Pending]
Additional Notes: Yeah this is a very unserious MC creation. TNA is more of a guilty pleasure "fun bad" kind of series for me. But it also has a weird special place in my heart because Book 1 is the second ever Choices book I started and the first ever Choices book I completed.
Nightbound
This book was alright, but I wasn't quite invested enough in it to make a MC for it. Maybe that will change if and when I replay it. We'll see.
Open Heart
I have yet to play this series. I played the first book years back, but it's been a long time since. Even when I do replay it, I'm probably gonna have way too much fun naming my MC "Martha Jones" to make an actual MC. But if I like this series enough, I'll replay it and maybe make an actual MC for it (and she will romance Bryce Lahela). We'll see.
Passport to Romance
I have yet to play this. I'll make a MC for it based on how much I like the book.
Perfect Match
I like this series a lot, and I want to have one female MC and one male MC for it. However, I'm short on ideas. I'll flesh out their profiles more after I do their playthroughs.
The Phantom Agent: Jane Bond
Book Playthrough Status: Completed, but needs a replay
Birthday: [Pending]
Gender: GNC Cis Woman (she/her)
Ethnicity: [Pending]
Sexuality: Straight
In-Game LI Pursued: Agent Callum "Booty Galore" Grey (Indian version), but she also likes Rowan Salazar (male version), and she really likes the hookup options Nurse Lou Bellrose and Alexis Reid (both male)
Endgame LI Headcanon: I want to say all four of the aforementioned LIs/hookups, but unfortunately, Rowan and Alexis die in the story. I might rewrite that.
Additional Notes: I have a moral obligation to make this MC as James Bond as possible, the story is literally a PB take on James Bond.
Platinum
I have yet to play this. I'll make a MC for it based on how much I like the book.
The Princess Swap
I liked this book, but it doesn't really have much going for it for one to make their own MCs from. But I might decide otherwise after a replay.
Queen B
I have yet to play this. I'll make a MC for it based on how much I like the book.
Red Carpet Diaries
I have yet to play this. I'll make a MC for it based on how much I like the book.
Ride or Die: Adelaide "Addi" Zhou
Book Playthrough Status: Completed, but I might do a replay or two
Birthday: Pending, but it's sometime in the year 2001, somewhere between March and May (she's 18 during the story's timeline)
Gender: GNC Cis Woman (she/her)
Ethnicity: Is at least half-Chinese (East Asian sprite)
Sexuality: wlm
In-Game LI Pursued: Colt Kaneko
Endgame LI Headcanon: Her relationship with Colt is only a brief fling. What becomes of her love life after that is still pending.
Additional Notes: She became salutatorian in my playthrough. But I might try to see if I can get any different outcomes for her.
Rising Tides
I have yet to play this. I'll make a MC for it based on how much I like the book.
Roommates With Benefits
This book was too mid for me to make a MC for. But if I really feel like it, I might make a male MC.
The Royal Masquerade
I have yet to play this. I'll make a MC for it based on how much I like the book.
The Royal Romance: Lew [Last Name Pending]
Book Playthrough Status: Currently in progress and on indefinite hiatus
Birthday: February 2, 1991 (approximately 26 at the start of the story)
Gender: GNC Cis Woman
Ethnicity: Indian (South Asian sprite)
Sexuality: Straight
In-Game LI Pursued: Liam Rys (Asian version)
Endgame LI Headcanon: Liam Rys
Additional Notes: Her original last name was "Asshunter", just for funsies. But I plan to change it because unlike TNA, this is likely to be a series that I will genuinely care about (up until TRH anyways)
Rules of Engagement
I wasn't quite invested in this book enough to make my own MC for it.
Save the Date
I have yet to play this. I'll make a MC for it based on how much I like the book.
Ship of Dreams
I have yet to play this. I'll make a MC for it based on how much I like the book.
Shipwrecked
I'd like to male a male MC for this with female Manu, but I don't currently have a lot of ideas. I might give the book a replay first.
Slow Burn
This book was disappointing. But if I really feel like it, I might make a MC for it anyway.
Sunkissed
I have yet to play this. Not sure I'll make a MC for it, because last time I tried to play it, I got bored to death and quit after five chapters.
Surrender
This is the worst choices series ever. First place on my permanent choices shitlist. I might make a MC for it later though, if only to have her smash Reagan's face in with a lead strap-on chainsaw that ejaculates liquid radioactive waste.
The Unexpected Heiress
I liked this one the first time I started playing it. I'm looking forward to starting this one again and making the MC for it. But I don't have a lot of ideas. So I'm gonna play the book first and then come up with the MC as I go along.
Untameable
This book is ranked in third place on my permanent choices shitlist. But I might also wanna make a MC for the sole purpose of bitchslapping Austin. Then again, that would be a lot more effort than this boring ass book deserves.
Unbridled
I have yet to play this. I'll make a MC for it based on how much I like the book.
Veil of Secrets
I have yet to play this. I'll make a MC for it based on how much I like the book.
Wake the Dead
I had mixed feelings about this book. But I still want to make a MC for it. But I don't have a lot of ideas. I'll give the book a replay before I make a MC.
Wishful Thinking
I have yet to play this. I'll make a MC for it based on how much I like the book.
With Every Heartbeat
It's been a while since I last played this. I might make a MC for it when I replay it.
Witness: A Bodyguard Romance
Hahhahahhahhhahhahahhahahhahahahhaha what the fuck were the writers smoking when they wrote this book
Wolf Bride
This book was too mid for me to make a MC for.

Aisha Campbell known children and oc children. Aisha got done dirty by the franchise. All of the Stone Canyon Trio did, but she was done dirty. At least now we know she did come back from the past fine, and is thriving but…man. She’s a great character and they did nothing new or interesting or explorative with her. And they still really aren’t? Can we get a proper comic for the Stone Canyon Trio that lets them really shine? I’m tired of the ones that seem to then focus on the originals or Matt last minute. Nothing against Matt. At least fanfiction can fix it but still.
Canon Children;
None that we know of
OC Children for Aisha Campbell;
Tommy Oliver;
While Aisha acknowledges Tommy as the leader, she doesn’t let him get away with shit. Uniquely while Kat and Kim and Trini didn’t either, Aisha and Tommy had just enough of a rivalry together that Tommy couldn’t quite dare to pull some things around Aisha. Aisha came after the whole “villain Tommy” and just knew him as the himbo dork who loved his friends and being a power ranger.
They never got married, but they do have kids together. Mostly they live with their lives revolving around each other and their kids, but never quite together together. Aisha didn’t think she could be whatever Tommy was looking for and Tommy knew he wasn’t that for Aisha either. But, they liked each other enough for kids, and they’re still good friends. It’s fairly amicable and flexible. They have twin daughters, Fillipa and Lucinda Campbell, aged sixteen.
Fillipa is older by eight hours. She’s into sword-dancing and gymnastics. Friendly to everyone, but doesn’t let anyone walk over her. Fillipa is the school class president, and helped set up a other species welcoming committee into the school. Other variations of humans, aliens, mutants, magical species, even androids, are welcomed and the committee helps incorporate them into the school into friend groups to encourage fellow classmates and teachers to treat these new classmates as normal people. It’s an uphill battle, but she thinks it’s worth it. Her running mate and best friend is a young Tenga queen named Clack, and both of them believe everyone could benefit from a friendship like theirs. It’s been bumpy but it’s somewhat working. At the very least it seems the current ranger team is made up of a wide range of species, and this makes Fillipa very very happy. Not associated with a color but if she were it’d be yellow.
Lucinda Campbell is a rodeo horseback rider, and does the Indian bareback racing and bronco riding. Aisha saw her daughter fall in love with mechanical bucking bronco rides at the mall, looked over at Tommy and went “if I see her as a red ranger later I’m blaming you.” Lucinda isn’t a red ranger.
She’s a green.
Hilariously neither Tommy nor Aisha seem to have realized this yet. Then again, the most green she wears is a green braided bracelet and socks. She loves her sister, and is grateful to her and Clack for being advocates for normalizing species integration, because she couldn’t possibly ask for a better team. They have each other’s backs, cover for each other, take part and enjoy each other’s hobbies, and she loves them all deeply. This is her team.
She’s not supposed to be doing anything with wild horses; she promised her parents not till she was in her 20’s. She’s also got such a skill with them now that if they saw her they’d instantly know she was a ranger. So, this is also a secret. At least good old uncle David’s willing to keep the secret. And offer advise to the team and his nieces when needed.
Kat Hillard;
Tommy wasn't the one who managed to break Kat out of the mind control; it was Aisha. Aisha and Kat both left the rangers, and Aisha chose Tina as her replacement. They got a job together at the animal shelter, and they adopted several years later as chaos reigned around them. They have one daughter, Natalie, aged fourteen. They adopted Natalie at birth. The girl is wise beyond her years, and often too serious, but she's also got wells of dry humor and likes teasing her moms. not associated with a color, probably better off for it.
Kimberly Hart;
They quickly became fast friends, and Aisha caught feelings for the pink really really quickly. However, she didn't say anything until Kim left the rangers and was replaced by Kat. She was going on scholarship, and they started a long distance relationship. Eventually they got married after Aisha herself retired from rangerdom. Together with Anubis Cruger, they founded SPD. The wives have one son, a wild card named Benedict "Ben" Campbell. Aged 24. Benedict is currently in Ranger Academy, and has broken nearly every rule so far. Just for fun, just to see what'll happen. He's not a bad guy, he just simply wants to test limits. Of both himself and the world around him. When he graduates school he will be a Pink Ranger on D Team.
Adam Park;
It was just natural for them to get together. They’ve been friends together since forever, they’ve always been friends and it progressing to a little bit more made sense. They got married a little after joining SPD together. They have four kids together. Wendell, aged 26, Rocky, aged 26, Koniqua, aged 19, and Jacqueline “Jaq” Park, aged 17.
No way they weren’t going to name one of their kids after their closest friend aside from each other. Rocky was best man at their wedding even. When they found out they were having twins they simply used the middle name they were intending for a boy for Wendell. Rocky’s the older by eight hours, Wendell was a more difficult pregnancy and took his time, which actually was a foreshadowing to the twins’ personalities.
Rocky Park is rambunctious and a goofball. He loves making people laugh. Like his mom he’s empathetic and strong willed. Like his dad he’s prone to flashes of intense introspection, but never for long. Surprises people with his love of classical music. He’s enthusiastic to the point of being intense. Can be hard for him to dial it back. He’s a yellow ranger for his team.
Wendell is everything Rocky is not, and is a little bit of a little shit. He's often not noticed by other people, and tends to use that to his advantage. He knows his brother is a yellow ranger, and while he's not a ranger, he takes the opportunity to tackle or ram cars or steal from the monsters of the week. he's not noticed and it gives other rangers openings usually. He's given Rocky everything he's stolen, and is pleased when they're incorporated into the team's arsenal.
Koniqua is a lover of poetry, fables, and the history of the power rangers. She's determined to be one of the scientists who creates a new team, or unlocks the mysteries of the grid for general use. Pragmatic, quick thinking, happy to help her dumb brothers. They don't think she knows. She knew who'd saved her as soon as Rocky said "you're safe now civilian" and tried to act dumb. She barely resisted the urge to call him out. Doesn't bother fighting the monsters, her brothers got that covered, but she does help get other civilians to safety when needed. not associated with a color. She's going into historical costuming, with the intention of working for tv productions.
Jaq would love to know why earth is so valuable to bad guys that they keep trying to take it over. Genre savvy type, and doesn't take shit. Has psyched out two villains and one of the comedy duo by just asking over and over "okay but why". Not popular, has two best friends and they're all kind of outsiders. Prefers it this way. You will not find Jaq anywhere near the monsters when they appear, she's gone and dragging her friends off with her. not associated with a color, but has made the big bad main villain question themself and then cry. her brother was torn between disappointed, impressed, and terrified of his little sister. Jaq's considering maybe being a therapist specializing in rangers and their villains would be a lucrative career move.
Rocky DeSantos;
Rocky and Aisha fit well. She gets his humor, he knows how to match her energy and keep her from burning the wick at two ends. So when they got together nobody was remotely surprised. They have two kids, one naturally and one adopted. Landon, aged 12, and Saffie, aged 14.
Landon's been with Rocky and Aisha since he was three, and he's been really happy with them for as long as he can remember. He's a bit of a bookworm, but mostly prefers nonfiction. If he has to read fiction, it's nothing sci fi related. It bothers him too much when they get simple things you can look up wrong. Like what Tenga Warriors look like, or what space ships need for fuel. Or planets earth trades with. He likes spicy food, and birds. He probably knows more about bird related aliens than the average human. Doesn't know what he wants to be when he grows up, but he does know he wants a parrot. His parents are trying to convince him to choose a bird with a shorter lifespan. He and his sister have a very kind spirited joking relationship. They don't feel like they aren't actual siblings, and he's as protective of her as he likes being a mild pest to her now and then, and she him. Not associated with a color.
Saffie was a surprise baby. Aisha and Rocky had been trying for a kid for a while at this point, and nobody was sure why it just wasn't happening. When they applied for adoption, Saffie was conceived. They still went through with the adoption, and are glad they did, and Saffie is too. She loves Landon a lot, and they have a fairly healthy sibling relationship. Saffie's not exactly a social butterfly, but she's by no means a wallflower either. She keeps to herself, and likes skateboarding and parkour and rock music. Being able to brag about the fact she knows the Skullovitchs personally and she sometimes gets babysat by Eugene Skullovitch's son? Oh it's amazing. Cheeky, high energy, and knows what she wants in life. She's dancing to the beat of her own drum, and is quite happy doing so. Likes reading poetry, a lot, and diy'ing her own clothes (she is not allowed near bleach dye for her jeans after an incident of not screwing the lid on tightly enough and leaving it on the living room floor. Fabric paint is still okay, though). Rocky and Aisha are a little confused by some of her interests, but then she turns around and is so much like both of them they have to laugh. Saffie's just Saffie. Not associated with a color.
Jason Lee Scott;
Surprising everyone, including himself, Billy was chosen for the peace conference, not Jason. Rocky became the blue mighty morphin, and Jason struggled with the new dynamic. He often butt heads with Aisha, who stood up for Adam and Rocky against the Red when her boys wouldn't. Adam, Rocky, and Aisha became a throuple, but Aisha also married Jason, who while he did have to get used to it, likes Rocky and Adam as friends and paramours, and likes that Aisha is happy. Together, Aisha and Jason have one son, Seth Landon Scott, aged seventeen.
Seth is not a ranger, and he's not interested in being a ranger. He's more interested in being a park ranger for national parks. Any would do, just so he can be out in nature. He's not really interested in the ocean, and is far more interested in forests and mountains. strong willed, stubborn, imaginative, and happy to help. Is friends with a lot of rangers and ranger's kids, but, he's happy not being a ranger despite their not so subtle recruitment efforts.
Farkas Bulkmeier;
Nobody saw this coming. However, he invited her to a dance, and she didn’t say no. Then they just saw each other as friends for a few years. New Year’s party and nine months later….well. Actually they work well together, who knew? Bulk can make Aisha laugh, and she helps him set more realistic goals. And they kick ass together. Recently divorced but not on bad terms. Hobart “Hobie” Bulkmeier, though…is struggling. New purple ranger, parents recently divorced, trying to keep grades up and a steady job on top of it? This is. A Lot. He’s a ballet instructor for a babies first ballet type class. Does not put up with bullshit for anything. Not afraid to call people out. He’s dating the green ranger and that’s fine, his parents like his boyfriend. It’s just everything on top of everything on top of everything. Has a bit of an anger issue but he is stressed out. Doesn’t really know how to talk about it, either. He’s usually a very upbeat, positive, and easy going kid. But everything has happened within six months of each other and if he doesn’t get a day off he’s going to blow. His parents are trying but they don’t know how to help if he doesn’t talk to them. He needs a weekend with his boyfriend and no life or death situations for five minutes if you so please.
Eugene Skullovitch;
She asked him out and he thought it was a joke. It wasn't. They found they actually challenge each other in interesting ways. She also hates his mom and her parents love him, so that helped a lot. They've got a daughter, Kensie Campbell. Aged 15. Excitable by nature, is in the drama club. Has a near perfect memory, uses this for shenanigans, mostly when sassing her many many honorary aunts and uncles or annoying villains and monsters. Eugene is so, so proud. Aisha sometimes worries the know it all attitude is going to get her in trouble. However, nothing's happened-yet-and Kensie does seem to slowly be learning how to read the room. She plays piano to help her think. Her favorite is moonlight sonata. It partially annoys Skull, but his favorite composer is Bach, so it's more of a principle thing. Kensie is a soccer player, and has a very close best friend. Skull's getting the "what to in case you're kidnapped by a monster with your best friend" speech ready, just in case a group of crime fighting teenagers with attitude show up. not associated with a color
Scorpina;
When Scorpina pretended to be human, she befriended Rocky, Adam, and Aisha. When the boys fought over her, ‘Selena’ decided to have Aisha as a guide. Although Aisha didn’t trust her and was proven right; There was such an immediate bond it became a matter of contention. Aisha saw through the disguise and decided to make Scorpina regret it, by giving her a reason to be a good person. It worked a little too well, and the two began a very angsty situationship where they had to fight the person they loved most. Constantly. Scorpina couldn't take it anymore, and tricked Aisha into submitting to a mind control for a time so Scorpina wouldn't have to choose between her cause and her girlfriend. The others did break the spell, but Aisha did choose to stay for a while, just to stick with Scorpina. They're not together anymore, but Scorpina did have a daughter with Aisha. Aurellia, aged 19. Aurellia is a warrior and has been in Rito's employ for about two years, but she does want to join her other mom. She wants to know Aisha better, aside from the tense and brief interactions the small family has on her birthday. She wants her moms to reconcile, but is coming to the conclusion that this won't happen. So, she's doing her best as she is, in her current situation. Is a gold ranger.
Rito Revolto;
Aisha can barely stand Rito, but has to acknowledge he's not as stupid or simple or silly as those he loves considers him as. When he lost his memories, Bulk and Skull let it slip to her. Aisha rightfully flipped out on them, but kept it more in the "you turned two people with amnesia into your unpaid SERVANTS?!" and when they thought about it, yea, that....was not a good look. Aisha's plan was redeeming Goldar and Rito while they'd be amenable to actually listening to the reasons for why. She was right, he wasn't dumb, and once he had a little bit of context realized she was the yellow ranger. Rito watched all the carnage and realized the little yellow ranger was right. And when he got his memories back, still agreed she was right. They have one daughter, Phoebe Revolta, aged 22. Phoebe doesn't get along with her cousins Thrax and Selena very much, but she does for the sake of her dad. He believes he can help redeem his niece and nephew, she's not going to argue with this. She's getting pretty upset though, that Grandpa Vile keeps trying to push her dad into teaching her dark arts when Phoebe couldn't be less interested. Wants to be a poet, just trying to get through school. One one side she’s got the Power Rangers on the other she’s got Rita, Zedd, their nightmares, and Vile. Aisha’s become the bane of Vile’s existence on behalf of her daughter and partner. Unfortunately, the mystic side of the family likes causing trouble. Rito’s been unable to get rid of them, so he’s tried to make the best of it, unfortunately for Aisha and Phoebe.
Matthew Cook:
They sort of got together because they just happened to be in each other's vicinity. Everyone was pairing up and they sort of fell into each other as a matter of convenience. They got married, and they're content. They have one kid, Isaiah Cook, aged 16. Aisha and Matthew decided to help Grace and Terona with ranger things, including making a homebrew team such as the Mutant Rangers or Dark Rangers. They're often gone training their teams they've created for the military, much to Isaiah's chagrin.
Isaiah is rebellious in the fact that they know that the best way to get their parents attention is go on about how much they do not want to be involved with power rangers or villains or the comedy duo. Their aunt is the one raising them for the most part, and they travel around America during the long stretches Matt and Aisha aren't around. Isaiah is happy being the background character of their own life. They're just happy to do as much as they can and experience as much as possible, they've only got one life and it's better spent not wasted. And power ranger related shenanigans is wasting it. Currently hoping to be a plumber or go into textile art. They have the skills with both. Isaiah is not associated with a color. If they were, it'd be yellow.

Give me a description of your appearance, personality, hobbies, and what fandom you want and I’ll match you with a character in my fandom range!!!
saw this on my feed and no I wanna try!
I’m a 15/16 year old Indian girl (identifies she/her), with lighter olive skin but dark brown/ almost black eyes. My hair is black and it’s a bit less than shoulder length and straight but curves at the ends. I sometimes wear it in a ponytail, sometimes let down.
I love to write and have written a lot of short stories and fanfics. I also like to journal, even though I forget to do it often lol. I also doodle sometimes, mostly for fun.
I’d like to think I’m a pretty chill person, and a bit introverted if you don’t know me well. But, once I start to know someone more well, they become introduced to the side of me with my obsessions and I love to talk and rant about my obsessions and would totally do it 24/7 if given a chance lol. I’m an INFP if that gives more perspective into my personality. I also focus on my studies a lot and pride myself in my grades, though my grades aren’t, by far, the most important thing to me. The most important thing to me would probably be my friends and family.
I’m fine with any fandom and any character! This is a bit long now that I look back on it lol :)
No problem and I actually prefer longer descriptions because it helps me go into a deeper analysis and helps me to break down your character as a person to match you with someone else!!! also because you’re my last request for this, I will give you both a girl and a boy character
Your Fandom Ship(s): Hazel Levesque (Heroes of Olympus) and Ponyboy Curtis (The Outsiders!)
Tumblr media
Explanation: I think he would love the way you look and would describe you as quite poetically, and if you ever insisted that your brown eyes weren’t that special, he would very quickly tell you otherwise, and start comparing them to things like honey the soil of the richer and things like that I just think he thinks you stepped out of a poem. he also really likes to write things and read so I think that you guys would enjoy taking English together, writing short stories and fanfiction and if this were a modern alternate universe, I think you guys would love scrolling through Wattpad together and giggling it horrible fan fictions and I think you guys could both have some super deep conversations too. He also takes a lot of pride in his grades and academic and doesn’t really care about it that much but his big brother makes him stay in shape in school. I think he also easily obsess over things and would have fun ranting about random things and situations and scenarios with you and would love, talking to you. I feel like you guys could talk for hours on end and never get bored or run out of subjects. He’s also highly loyal to his friends and family, and I think he would admire that trade about you and also appreciate your more chill, relaxed personality. That slowly gets more exciting as you get more comfortable with the person. 💚💚
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Explanation: I think she would really appreciate your personality because I think you’re both quite similar to hers and she’s also quite similar to Pony. She’s more of a quiet character at first, but she grows to be louder as she gets more comfortable with you and she’s just such a sweetheart. She’s also extremely kind brave and loyal to her friends and family and is willing to sacrifice a lot to do whatever it takes to keep them safe For context she is a daughter of Hades, the god of the underworld in Greek mythology, which is quite ironic, considering she is one of the sweetest in the entire franchise and I cannot express express to you. How kind this girl is I just think you guys would get along so well. I think she’s going to be physically attracted to you and very appealed with how you look. I feel like she would also constantly shower you and compliments and you would of course shower her back because she did definitely deserves the freaking praise but I feel like you are just really uplifting for each other and such a great couple. She is also quite smart and not as academic, but definitely smart and other ways and I think that she would definitely be proud of you if you got a good grade and always the first person to come up to you and give you a hug if you got an A+ class and you worked super hard on a project. She’s not much of a writer herself, but she would absolutely support you in your writing and absolutely loves it whenever you write fanfiction about novels that she’s read and then insists on reading the fanfiction and praises you so much afterwards. Honestly, I hope you realize what a big deal. It is to be shipped with Hazel because she is an absolute sweetheart and I’m doing you a fucking honor man. 🩷🩷🩷 I ship so hard.

i absolutely hate bashing on new animated shows (especially with everything happening with animation in the last few years) but
the new velma show is absolutely terrible for several reasons
the edginess that eliminates the nuance that the original series/early 2000s versions had regarding the characters defining personalities (i.e. shaggy being hinted at being a stoner vs actually being a stoner)
the timeline is way off. i know there are at least two ways scooby and the gang are introduced as a group
they met as kids and shaggy has had scooby doo since he was a child/scooby was a puppy (a pup named scooby doo/most of the main series/movies)
they met in high school and shaggy adopted scooby as a teenager (the second set of live action movies from the 2010s)
either of these is a perfectly plausible way the kids met scooby and formed mystery inc. but introducing a series based on a popular franchise and not having the main character/character the franchise is named after in the show at all (“it takes place before they met scooby doo”) makes zero sense to me
like you don’t have to have scooby as a main character, but completely eliminating him from the story/series altogether doesn’t make sense lore wise (the gang officially got together after scooby was introduced, not before)
back to the edginess (or attempt of edginess) i feel that, to date, the edgiest version of the scooby doo franchise was cartoon network’s mystery incorporated (the animation being a bit more “‘scandalous,’” the story having an occult/really supernatural component, and the characters actually having depth that matches their ages/problems (daphne yearning for fred and wanting to marry him instead of just being in a happy go lucky relationship)
like sure the show was weird and a bit mature for a children’s show but at least the characters made sense
and lastly
at least the supernatural x scooby doo crossover left the characters in character (and actually had scooby doo in it)
anyway, i will not be watching this show (not even hate watching) because i just can’t afford to see one of my favorite and most precious franchises be destroyed due to capitalism and “edginess”
(i really was rooting for black shaggy :/// and obviously daphne being asian american/velma being indian american would have been huge for female animated characters but this show better only have one season. i will be looking at fanart tho if there is any bc i love scooby doo fanart :)))

Velma Review
Tumblr media
Velma is a mature animated series which mixes the genres of mystery, comedy horror, and thriller. It is based on characters from the Scooby-Doo franchise and is an origin story, of sorts, for Velma Dinkley, before the formation of Mystery Incorporated. The series was developed by Charles Grandy. He previously created Guys with Kids, produced episodes of The Office, and has been a creative collaborator with Mindy Kaling, the voice of Velma, since 2013. This review will have spoilers.
Reprinted from Pop Culture Maniacs and Wayback Machine. This was the twenty-fifth article I wrote for Pop Culture Maniacs. This post was originally published on February 17, 2023.
The plot of Velma primarily centers around the story of Velma Dinkley. She attempts to uncover the perpetrator who murdered two local teenage girls, Brenda and Krista, and circumstances behind the her mother's disappearance.
She is soon joined by school news reporter Norville Rogers (voiced by Sam Richardson). Her former best friend, and popular girl, Daphne Blake (voiced by Constance Wu) also helps her, since her quest to find her biological parents, draws her closer to Velma.
Unlike previous depictions, Velma is South Asian American, while Daphne is East Asian American, and Norville, often named "Shaggy" in previous Scooby-Doo iterations, is a Black man. This representation is reflected in the voice actors: Kaling is of Indian descent, Wu is of Taiwanese descent, and Richardson is a Black man of Ghanaian descent.
The only one of the original Mystery, Inc. crew who is portrayed as White is Fred Jones. He is a popular 16-year-old rich kid, heir of a fashion line for men, and said to be a "late bloomer". Despite these negatives, Velma still has a crush on him. Voiced by Glenn Howerton, known for his role as Charlie Day in It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Fred is accused as the murder suspect of Brenda and Krista, despite lack of evidence which ties him to the crime.
Velma is differs from previous Scooby-Doo series by not featuring Scooby-Doo as a character. Grandy, one of the show's executive producers, said that the show's staff struggled to find a take on this beloved dog. This coincided with Warner Bros. Animation telling them "Hey, you can’t use the dog", as Grandy recalled.
Apart from Kaling, Wu, and Richardson, the cast is relatively diverse, more than other Scooby-Doo series, including Black men, Black women, and actresses of Cuban, Chinese, Filipino, Malaysian, and Indian descent. This aligns with the focus of Kaling's small-but-powerful production company, Kaling International, which founded in 2012 and described by Time magazine as telling stories about "inner lives of women of color" and stories of underdogs.
youtube
While in previous iterations, Velma has been in romantic relationships with men, her romantic attraction to women was hinted in episodes of Mystery Incorporated and in 2022 animated film, Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo! In contrast, Velma depicts her as bisexual, as she has a crush on Fred, and accepts Daphne's feelings toward her. Like other versions, Norville has a crush on her, but it is not received by Velma, as it appears. This leads him, to later, date a cool girl named Gigi (voiced by Yvonne Orji).
Daphne has a crush on Velma, kissing her at the end of the second episode (as shown in the video above), causing her to go into a bit of a panic. She has crushes on men as well. Her actions are partially affected by her two incompetent police detective mothers: Donna and Linda. Both are voiced by lesbian actresses: Wanda Sykes and Jane Marie Lynch. Lynch previously voiced a lesbian character, Mrs. Roop, in The Ghost and Molly McGee, while Sykes voiced a lesbian character Deb, in Q-Force.
This representation is not limited to Daphne, Velma, Donna, and Linda. Cherry Jones, who voices the mother of Fred, Victoria, is a lesbian actress, as is Fortune Feminister, voice of popular girl Olive. Others are unambiguously queer, such as Nicole Byer, the voice of Crystal Cove High principal (and mother of Norville) Blythe Rogers, and Shay Mitchell, the voice of Brenda. This series appears to be the first voice acting role of Mitchell.
Despite this, the characters of Donna and Linda appear to reinforce the lesbian cop trope, which depicts adult lesbian characters as cops. This trope is said to make such characters more palatable to so-called "average people" in the U.S., if these women, mainly women of color, are "helping to uphold the systems that oppress them".
These characters seem to fall into the has two moms / two dads trope, although such a trope ignores "traditional" views of family life necessitating a mother and father. In this case, Donna and Linda are the same gender as their parents, just as Barry and Randall Leibowitz-Jenkins are in The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder. In fact, Sykes had personally served as a former NSA contracting specialist for five years, something which could have influenced her role as a police detective in Velma.
This breaking of the nuclear family is present in Velma's family, as her original mother, Diya Dinkley (voiced by Sarayu Blue), left. As a result, her father, Aman (voiced by Russell Peters), a lawyer, re-marries to Sophie (voiced by Melissa Fumero), owner of a malt shop in town and a pregnant model. The latter is often belittled by Velma.
While the first season spotlights Velma's long, and strong, friendship with Daphne, with Velma even proposing they become girlfriends in episode 8, it ends with everything up in the air. As a result of the events in the show's season one finale, Velma's personal life is in shambles. This is unfortunate because the writers had a chance to make Velma/Daphne canon, but chose not to. Instead, they went the route of Never Have I Ever, Wednesday, and even Kashimashi Girl Meets Girl by setting the groundwork for a likely love triangle between Daphne, Velma, and Norville, but not Fred. Such a development shows the limitations of Velma.
youtube
Velma has been received by critics, and those on social media, with mixed reviews. Apart from the diverse cast and LGBTQ+ representation, I was drawn into the series as a new fan to the Scooby-Doo franchise. The dialogue can, sometimes, be snappy, funny, and witty, while the plot can move along smoothly. The characters, themselves, can be compelling enough to make viewers sympathize with them, but aren't always this way.
Even though Velma is snarky, one can root for her at times, but not at others. The former is the case when she has horrifying hallucinations as she feels guilt for her mother's disappearance. The only parallel that comes to mind is Julian Chase in gen:LOCK. Although he is only alive as a copy of himself, as his original body barely survived, he faces internal demons, which manifest in his memoryscape, while he faces external demons in the form of the Nemesi, who are "evil" copies of him.
While there is some similarity between both characters, Velma doesn't face trauma akin to the terror Chase experiences. However, she still faces the crushing burdens and oppression of being a person of color, and is in part of some dangerous situations.
Velma sometimes cheapens its own protagonists, even making them unrelatable, at times. For instance, late in the season, Daphne begins a fake relationship with Fred so that both of them can become popular, even if it enrages Velma. Daphne also wants to become part of Jones Gentlemen's Accessories, and is willing to put everything on the line.
On the other hand, Velma acts awful to everyone throughout the series, even acting like she is in a relationship with Norville to fool her mom, Diya, who is recovering her memory. She is probably even worse than the toxicity of Penny Proud's long-time friends in The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder.
The series seemed to counter past claims about Norville's supposed drug use, as he says he hates drugs, and is only shown to be a nerd who likes Velma. While he might appear to be a stoner, he is annoyed, in the second episode, when stoners are listening to his online show. Funny enough, his father Lamont (voiced by Gary Cole), has a design similar to what Norville looked like in previous iterations. The season one finale hints that Norville may begin trying drugs, possibly marijuana, at the suggestion from his father.
In addition, there is a focus on beauty norms, shut-shaming, human experimentation, and the over-bearing power of the government (especially the police). In terms of the latter, the town's sheriff (voiced by Stephen Root), declares that they can't catch a serial killer because "it is a ghost", not because they are incompetent.
For example, in the fourth episode, it appears that Fred becomes a better person after reading The Feminine Mystique. Instead, Velma just sees him as problematic and gross, showing he hasn't changed. His character somewhat improves as the series move forward, as he becomes more sure of himself.
youtube
The voice actors of Velma are seasoned, making the series strong in that regard. Many have experience in TV, film, and even theatre roles, or previously played characters on other projects by Kaling, like The Mindy Project and Never Have I Ever.
Furthermore, some voiced characters in Amphibia, Kim Possible, Milo Murphy's Law, Phineas and Ferb, Glitch Techs, and Big City Greens, six all-ages series. Others provided voices in mature animations such as Close Enough, American Dad!, Family Guy, Bojack Horseman, Harley Quinn, Star Trek: Lower Decks, Pantheon, and Bob's Burgers.
I had hoped that characters like Dandruff Tuba, voiced by Weird Al Yankovic, would be more prominent. The name was familar because he voiced Milo Murphy in Milo Murphy's Law, a character with so much extreme misfortune and bad luck that he is prepared for any situation thanks to his handy backpack. Sadly, he was underutilized in the series.
The voice talent of Velma comes through with actors like Richardson, who is best known for voicing Richard Splett in Veep. Also, Wu voiced the Mom in Wish Dragon, Lynch voiced characters in Final Space, Fumero voiced others in Elena of Avalor and She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, and Peters is a Black comedian. The cast of Velma includes well-known talent like Stephen Root, Ming-Na Wen (voicing Carroll), Debby Ryan (as Krista), and Frank Welker (voicing Fred's father).
Welker has voiced Fred since the character began to be animated in 1969. He previously voiced characters in a variety of series, like Star Wars Resistance, 3Below, Totally Spies!, and Futurama. There is, additionally, Karl-Anthony Towns who voices Jacques Beau (Jock Boy). Towns is a professional basketball player of Dominican descent.
Although Velma is not my favorite series, I somewhat enjoyed watching the episodes. Others may have liked the series as much as I did, or perhaps even more, as Velma broke records for HBO Max in terms of the largest number of people watching an original animated series on its premiere day. In fact, at times, the comedy can be subtle and strong.
The series premiere is a miracle in and of itself, considering the HBO Max content purge championed by Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav last year. Two series (Summer Camp Island and Victor and Valentino) were removed from the streaming platform, while Craig of the Creek had its final season order cut in half, and Young Justice was effectively cancelled.
All five of these shows, regardless of other issues, had outward LGBTQ+ representation. Previously, the platform shuttered Final Space, which featured a lesbian protagonist, Ash Graven, voiced by pansexual actress Ashly Burch. The acclaimed Infinity Train, which featured Black and Asian protagonists in the third and fourth seasons.
youtube
The fact that the series survived this purge could be due to the fact that it was produced by Warner Bros. Animation, along with 3 Arts Entertainment, Charlie Grandy Productions, and Kaling International. Not only had Charlie Grandy Productions, the production company of executive producer Grandy, worked on previous projects with Kaling before, but an executive producer, Howard Klein, was one of the heads of 3 Arts Entertainment.
Another executive producer, Sam Register, headed Warner Bros. Animation, Cartoon Network Studios, and Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe. He had previously produced various Scooby-Doo and Tom & Jerry films, Teen Titans, Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated, Young Justice, Harley Quinn, and many others.
Charlie Grandy Productions was known for producing The Office, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Duncanville. The show's producer, Kandace Reuter, had worked on Scooby-Doo!: The Sword and the Scoob and Thundercats Roar, and the show's editors had worked on assorted series, such as Undone, Bojack Horseman, and Tuca & Bertie.
Despite all of these experienced people, in the entertainment industry, working on Velma, it does not take away from one major flaw: music. Apart from a scene in the show's season one finale, in which Velma listens to old voicemails of Norville, the music is altogether unmemorable, and the theme song is strangely alienating.
This is too bad because a Bronx-born Black man, Craig DeLeon, who composed the score of the series, worked with renowned directors in the past. Perhaps his talent was not used as well as it could have been. There were no amazing songs like those in D4DJ or banger songs like the theme song of recently premiered Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur.
This credibility of the show's producers may have been a reason that the series moved forward on HBO Max, just as Harley Quinn did. It could have been part of the rationale beyond the renewal of a Season 2 for Velma. Considering that the series became a "lightning rod for controversy" and garnered many hate-watchers, it may garner more of a cult following than anything else.
Although the series has incurred backlash, with Wikipedia claiming that audience response had been "overwhelmingly negative", it did not dissuade me from watching the series, nor even writing about it. Surely some of the criticisms, like the comedic lines which fall flat, or possible stereotypes have merit. But, the show is not the worst thing out there as those review-bombing the series on IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes, or others complaining about it on social media and YouTube, may lead to you to believe.
youtube
This season had Fred, and his family, as the manifestation of White privilege and wealth. It is on par, in some ways, with the snobbishness and narcissm exemplified by nouveau riche protagonist Kaz Khan in Neo Yokio.
At the same time, the series exemplifies the reality of how easy it easy for someone, especially people of color, to be swept up in the criminal system. After all, Velma herself is almost imprisoned by being at the wrong place at the wrong time, before she falsely implicates Fred in the murder.
Thee show's plot only hints at part of what the Marshall Project noted in their November 2020 post about trials in the U.S.: that many felony convictions on the state and federal levels are often results of plea bargains, and prosecutors are some of the most powerful players in this criminal system, relying on sheriffs and police as key witnesses. In many of the states, the Marshall Project noted, that judges can charge for use of a public defender.
In Velma, the arrest of Fred by Donna and Linda is not questioned, despite Velma's defense of Fred, before his outburst causes the judge to declare him guilty. Velma's father, Aman, takes Fred's case because he wants the money for his girlfriend, Sophie, not because he truly believes in the case.
The series highlights the inadequacy of mental health care in the U.S., therapy, and gender disparity. The latter is exemplified by the school Principal, Blythe, only having 50 dollars in the school budget to counter "centuries of toxic masculinity", which she uses to pay for an all-girls self-defense class, taught by Daphne's moms. The former is shown through Norville and his father.
I thought the story's focus, at first on experiments by Doctor Edna Purdue, the grandmother of Norville, a scientist who found a way to keep the human brain alive outside the body, was intriguing. I would say the same for the series plot about Velma's mom, Diya, her lost memory, and manipulation by a miscreant to commit the murders. However, it felt hollow in the end.
youtube
Velma reveals that Diya had been manipulated to recreate the lab of Dr. Purdue, recruited by Army General Henry Meeting to create the Special Covert Operations Brain Initiative (Scoobi), a reference to the original franchise. This manipulation happened through hypnosis by Fred's mother, Victoria (voiced by Cherry Jones). It is further noted that Velma herself was hypnotized as well.
Victoria states that she wanted to switch Fred's brain with someone more "ambitious", who she believed were "hot girls",  and keep the global brand of Jones Gentleman's Accessories afloat. This absurd plot cheapened the series. It was compounded by Velma's foolhardy attempt to get her mom to remember anything, involving massive lying, which blew up in her face, and her rupturing of friendship with Norville after falsely accusing his father as the serial killer.
While the social commentary on big companies which support politicians who "look the other way", as is the case for Jones Gentleman's Accessories, is apt, as much as the criticism of economic exploitation in My Dad the Bounty Hunter, it is muddled by the rest of the story.
For one, there are callbacks to the first episode of this series, when female characters were showering in the nude together, sexism by the police, and more. In the case of Velma, it is problematic that the villain is a woman in that it could send a bad message about women in positions of power.
Through all of that, the series seems to hint at a possible storyline for another season, as the police officer who received the file from Velma is killed while putting it in a "solved cases" box. Undoubtedly, in the next season, Velma will continue to use her "pretty good" detective skills, the relationship between Velma and Daphne may develop, and a new "conspiracy board"/"murder board" would come about. The series will likely have a love triangle between three of the protagonists: Daphne, Norville, and Velma.
This is because, in the season one finale, Velma inadvertently said she "loves" Norville, so he came to save her from the serial killer who is out to kill her, Daphne, and Fred. If this comes to pass, and the story straddles the home/school lives of the main characters, and doesn't come into more of its own, it will feel more like a stale CW drama. That would be a serious loss of potential in a story which could be stronger if it's plot had better execution.
In the end, I feel this series is not great but not terrible, as hate-watchers have declared. Instead, it is only in the middle. So, I can't fully, and confidently, recommend giving this series a watch.
The first season of Velma is currently streaming on HBO Max.

Netflix’s recent announcement of a $2.5 billion investment in its production of South Korean movies and television shows is only the latest data point to suggest that Asia is a rising content giant—and Seoul sits at the center of it all.
The Netflix outlay—twice what it has plowed into the Korean market since 2016—came just before Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, which kicked off May 1. Asian content and entertainers of Asian descent are enjoying their highest profile in the United States since the month was first celebrated in 1992.
The historic showing at the Academy Awards in March—seven wins for Everything Everywhere All at Once, including actors Michelle Yeoh and Ke Huy Quan, and two Oscars for Indian films—represents a breakthrough moment. This builds on the cultural phenomenon of the South Korean show Squid Game, which took over Halloween costume parties last year, as well as Parasite, which won several Oscars in 2020.
Entertainment is a trend-driven industry, and it’s easy to write off the success of Korean content as a potent but passing fad. Other foreign-produced content has had its moment in the American sun and then faded. What sets South Korea apart from many other countries its size, and its neighbors in Asia, has been its relentless focus on foreign markets and its ability to produce multiple types of successful entertainment content—music, film, TV shows, and games—for those markets. Only South Korean literature has yet to join the party, and that may be coming. South Korean novels that have been translated into English, such as Kim Ji-young, Born 1982 and Please Look After Mom, a Man Asian Literary Prize winner, have started to focus global attention on Korean authors.
There are some specific reasons the South Korean entertainment industry has prospered overseas. First, it is a tough crucible. If Korean audiences don’t like a new film, TV show, or song, it will die a quick and merciless death. The domestic competition among entertainment companies is intense.
Korean audiences demand high-quality content, high production values, and a constant stream of fresh product. Unlike in the United States, where successful TV shows span multiple seasons and spawn franchises, it is rare for even hit shows in South Korea to last for more than one season. Writers are restless and want to move on to new projects, and so do audiences.
South Korea’s size has something to do with its constant cycle of creation and improvement. With just 52 million people in the Korean market, entertainment companies’ growth depends on creating movies, TV shows, and music that will fare well internationally. As a wealthy country that has prioritized content creation as an economic engine, in some ways the Korean entertainment industry has become too big to be contained within national borders. At the same time, the Korean domestic market acts like a shark tank as companies battle for a limited number of entertainment dollars. These factors combine to create high-quality, ready-to-export content.
This constant pressure guarantees a pipeline of high-quality shows and movies at a pace most other countries haven’t matched. For example, four of the eight-most watched non-English Netflix series of all time are South Korean. South Korea is a perpetual content engine tuned to the latest societal issues of our times. It’s also worth noting that South Korea has made the entertainment industry a national priority, in terms of seed funding, establishing numerous international film festivals and teaching filmmaking in schools, and the industry treats behind-the-scenes production staff as importantly as stars.
Culturally, South Korea is like a petri dish of innovation for many industries. The cycle of consumer trial, adoption, and failure or success is accelerated to warp speed because of the country’s dense population, global orientation, and fast internet. (South Korea was the first nation to roll out wide-scale commercial 5G service.)
There is a relentless appetite for something new that has led South Korea to be a preferred testbed for technology companies, luxury brands, and co-working with robots. “If any trend is going to move from overseas to the U.S., I would put South Korea at the front of the line in terms of who is likeliest to be that springboard,” Andrew Wallenstein, the president of Variety Intelligence Platform, told the New York Times.
Second, despite what American audiences may understandably think, K-content did not come out of nowhere. The United States is only the most recent market to embrace it. One of South Korea’s first big entertainment exports was the TV series Winter Sonata, which became a hit in Japan and the Philippines in the early 2000s, generating a wave across Asia that Korean dramas and films rode.
K-pop expanded its footprint beginning in the mid-2000s from Asia to Latin America and Europe, propelled by social media. According to Twitter data, the top five countries of origin of K-pop tweets are Indonesia, Japan, the Philippines, South Korea, and the United States. In fact, research by the AMPD group showed Korean content ranking first or second in every Southeast Asian country as measured by premium content by country of origin in 2022, besting Hollywood and even local-language content.
Much has been said about the diversity of American K-pop fans. Indeed, last year’s KCON, the annual K-culture festival sponsored by my firm, CJ ENM, in Los Angeles, drew about 100,000 fans—and only about 20 percent of them were ethnically Korean. In 2022, 60 percent of Netflix’s 221 million subscribers watched Korean content, and even this week, the Korean series Black Knight features on Netflix’s list of most watched non-English shows (with South Korea’s Dr. Cha in second place). The streaming services’ algorithms that curate shows don’t think in terms of geographic boundaries, so they surface high-quality, popular content regardless of country of origin.
By their increasing size, audiences have demonstrated that the storylines of K-dramas are universal. Even a Korean film that looked inaccessible to Western audiences—set in the hidden neighborhoods of Seoul and featuring a cast largely unknown to English-language moviegoers—hit on universal themes of class struggle, greed, and justice, all with a dash of caper and horror. This is why Parasite grossed $260 million worldwide. Korean content creators—much like Korean automakers and smartphone producers—are outwardly focused on global trends and the social zeitgeist. Director Bong Joon-ho tapped into the brewing cross-cultural anxiety over wealth inequality that drove the film’s core connection with global audiences. And, as CJ Group Vice Chairwoman Miky Lee said during her Oscar acceptance speech, “I really, really, really want to thank our Korean film audience … [who] never hesitated to give us straightforward opinions.”
Action movies look different today than they did 20 years ago. But their popularity endures. Likewise, K-content—with a strong international base and a constant cycle of creation and improvement—will continue to resonate with global audiences. It takes time and money to establish a high-quality entertainment industry, but digital technology and social media have lowered some key barriers to entry for production and distribution. Every country has distinct cultural forces at work within it, but South Korea’s success at creating broadly appealing music, movies, and TV series and engaging online with fans around the world could well be a template for other countries seeking to make their mark on the global stage.

Do you mind if I ask your top 10 favorite characters (can be male or female) from all of the media that you loved (can be anime, books, movies or tv series)? Thanks....
Hai, thanks so much for this fun question!
Goodness, ten whole characters, let me see…
Evelyn from The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid
Her life is so beautifully tragic, I read the novel a month ago and I still think about it. She’s messy, fiery and glamorous, everything I love! Lol.
Laurent from the Captive Prince trilogy
Ugh, he’s spikey, caddy, closed off and strikingly beautiful. Intelligent, though one-track minded. He navigates precarious situations with such gusto—I LOVE HIM AND CAPTIVE PRINCE AS A WHOLE SO DAMN MUCH.
Edith from Downton Abbey
Sort of on the periphery of things, her character development from the pilot till the final season is so beautiful to watch. She’s had horrible luck in life but things work out in her favour by the end, and I love that for her.
Donkey from Shrek
So I was in a pretty bad mental space in the beginning of the year and as one does, I took to Netflix. I binged the entire Shrek quadrilogy and Donkey’s character absolutely killed me. Honestly the whole Shrek franchise has my heart, “They judge me before they get to know me, that’s why I’m better off alone,” THE WORLD CAN BE SO CRUEL. But Donkey makes it better!
Sharpay from High School Musical
Mrs. Sharpay Evans carried that entire franchise. She hustled for her spot in musical theatre, tried to keep Troy booked and busy. What did Gabriella do? Swam and cried. Sharpay has been that gorl.
Jafar from the Aladdin (Live Action 2019)
Honestly he is the sexiest villain I have come across. The live-action actor can get it any time, any, day LORD.
Saul from Grace & Frankie
Okay he is the dorkiest, sweetest man and I melt every time he’s on screen. Major quirky loving dad vibes.
Mulan (1998 version)
Took her father’s place? Impersonated a soldier, saved China from the Huns? Queen shit. That movie has such longevity too, from the singing to the plot, the artistry I LOVE.
Raymond from Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman
Y’all this book impacted me in such a bone deep way. It’s the perfect blend of humour, wit while balancing incredibly hard topics. Raymond was just such a good friend to Eleanor, in his simple but comfortably normal way. Need me Raymond in my life.
Violet from Dark Rise
My determined, lion-hearted girl. I LOVED Dark Rise as a whole, Pacat transitioned into the YA genre so elegantly. Violet’s grit and yearning for answers, coupled with her being half Indian/British in the precarious period of English expansionism was so striking—I liked her character from the moment she was introduced.
THANKS AGAIN FOR THE ASK <333

As the demand for quality preschool education continues to rise, entrepreneurs and investors are eyeing this sector for its potential for growth and impact. In this blog, we delve into the landscape of preschool education in India and explore the opportunities and challenges associated with franchise expansion in this dynamic market.
The Landscape of Preschool Education in India
Preschool education in India has witnessed significant growth in recent years, driven by changing socio-economic factors and increasing awareness among parents about the importance of early childhood development. With more parents recognizing the benefits of early education in preparing children for formal schooling, the demand for preschools has surged across urban and semi-urban areas.
The preschool market in India is characterized by a mix of independent preschools and franchise chains. While independent preschools often focus on local communities and personalized approaches, franchise chains offer standardized curricula, infrastructure, and support systems backed by established brands. This model has gained traction among both investors and parents seeking quality assurance and consistency in early education.
Opportunities for Franchise Expansion
The Indian preschool market offers ample opportunities for franchise expansion due to several factors:
Rising Demand: With increasing urbanization and a growing middle-class population, the demand for preschool education is expected to escalate further. Franchise chains can tap into this demand by expanding their presence across different cities and regions.
Brand Recognition: Established preschool franchise brands have already built a reputation for quality education and childcare services. Leveraging brand recognition can give franchisees a competitive edge in attracting parents and enrolling students.
Standardized Curriculum: Franchise chains typically offer standardized curricula and teaching methodologies developed by education experts. This ensures consistency in the quality of education across all franchise outlets, which is appealing to parents seeking reliability and academic excellence for their children.
Support Systems: Franchisees receive comprehensive support from the franchisor, including initial training, ongoing professional development, marketing assistance, and operational guidance. This support framework minimizes the risks associated with setting up and running a preschool business independently.
Challenges to Consider
Despite the promising opportunities, preschool franchise expansion in India also presents some challenges:
Regulatory Compliance: Preschools in India are subject to various regulatory requirements and licensing procedures mandated by state and local authorities. Ensuring compliance with these regulations can be complex and time-consuming for franchise operators.
Competition: The preschool market in India is becoming increasingly competitive, with both domestic and international players vying for market share. Franchisees need to differentiate their offerings and continuously innovate to stay ahead in the market.
Localization: While standardized curricula are advantageous in maintaining quality standards, franchise operators must also consider local cultural preferences, languages, and socio-economic factors to effectively cater to the needs of diverse communities.
Investment Costs: Setting up a preschool franchise entails initial investment costs, including franchise fees, infrastructure development, staff salaries, and marketing expenses. Franchisees need to assess the financial feasibility and return on investment before committing to expansion plans.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the Best Preschool Franchise in India presents promising opportunities for expansion, driven by increasing demand for early childhood education and the credibility of established brands.
