I do not remember the posters @ and I can't find it under any rolan tags, so if y'all see it tag a tealfling bc I couldn't stop thinking about it and am going to talk about it anyway

How do I think Rolan would react to being flirted with by someone he's not interest in?

For a un-partnered Rolan: I think if someone was off his radar, they'd be way off. General flirting would either register as a weird misplaced interaction, or he wouldn't notice at all. As in an "Oh, you're still here?" sort of way (big oof- I would never recover)

Very forward flirt/ propositions from someone he isn't interested in, or if he was already in a relationship, would probably have the same reactions. Not nice Rolan. Visible grimaces. You know how as Tav for interactions like Lae'zel's or the Emperor's propositions you have options that are like, "Eww." "One word: Ick." They're getting those from Rolan. A chuckled, "Ha, absolutely not." A "No." so deadpan it would make Peepaw Wither's proud. He would hate being touched causally.

Rolan has Zero spell slots for that nonsense until he finds someone he makes spell slots for.

i seem to have lost my whole vocabulary lately and cannot write for the life of me sooooo let's throw the net in the wip-folder and see what sticks!

*elevator music plays as forget rummages through old and new stuff*

the timestamp on this document is 04:59am on a sunday, which means it's something i wrote when coming home from the club. not sure where i was going with it.

and yes i'm back on my modern au aradin bullshit.

It's funny in a way how quickly things become a habit. When Aradin pulls up in his rusty Volvo, Tav waits until he’s heaved himself over the passenger seat to open the door from inside, knowing full and well there’s no point in pulling the handle from the outside. 

The car smells of the wunderbaum he’s put on the rearview mirror in a futile attempt to cover up the stench of old tobacco. The same cassette as last time, and the times before that, plays on the speakers. 

There’s usually not a set destination, it depends on their mood. Sometimes they make it far, sometimes the closest car park will do. 

Tav likes it, watching the lights flitter by as Aradin steers them through the night at a speed that would have her mother clutching the handlebar in the ceiling. 

Tonight however, Tav managed to get her plan through. They’re heading towards an outcrop a couple of miles outside the city to get away from the light pollution. Aradin taps his fingers against the steering wheel as he drives. 

He pulls up at the parking lot, not another soul to be found. 

There are logs placed together in a half-circle facing the valley. A fireplace in the middle. They won’t light it. They don’t have the firewood. 

Instead, they settle down on the hood of his car. Nimble fingers mix tobacco and weed together and roll it into a cone. 

“Why d’you like this kinda stuff?” he asks, lighting up the spliff. He takes a deep drag and holds it in front of her. 

“Puts things in perspective.” Tav grabs the spliff from him. Warm fingers grace hers. 

He frowns. 

“What kinda perspective?” He actually sounds curious. 

Tav takes a drag, holding the smoke until she feels the familiar fog embrace her mind. 

The first shooting star hits when Tav’s still holding her breath. She points. His eyes widen. She exhales. 

“Like maybe the problems aren’t so big. Maybe it doesn’t matter so much.” 

“Hm.” He considers her words. Another inhale. 

“What do you think?” Tav asks.

“I like the view.” He shrugs, sounding indifferent.

Her eyes lingered on the flaky pastries dusted in powdered sugar as the waiter weaved through the crowd. Focus on anything but the food. Isa's next thought was how pretty the blue eyes of her dance partner were which again was in the territory of thoughts she had to avoid tonight.The woman in the fox mask returned with the mixed drinks she insisted Isadora try. She smiled while taking the drink.

"So what exactly was this life changing drink again?"

"Just a whiskey pomegranate drink made with Baldur's gatecrasher. Whoever put the rare and limited alcohol types in an open bar deserves a reward. Besides who I'm dancing with deserves the best given she looks like the princesses bards always mention," she said pulling Isa closer as a drunk noble came to ask her to dance.

While the drink was sweet Isadora could tell her fix like acquaintance had them make it stronger. The moment she finished her drink the featherlight touches on the middle of her back from the woman in the the fox mask were guiding her back on the dance floor. Isadora pulled her dance partner closer to her and was leading the dance. To her surprise they both seemed to ebb and flow between the roles. The woman in the fox mask dipped Isa briefly. In response Isa spun her partner first away then into her arms. The sheer silk blouse the woman in the fox mask was wearing had moments of being so translucent Isadora could see everything from the heart shaped pasties, the scars covering her torso, and the toned muscle. She could feel the tips of her ears getting hot as her face flushed momentarily. Gods she's gorgeous and the way she welcomes scandal is mesmerizing.

hey alex, i've only been following you for a little bit but your writing makes me want to Chew Things (in the best way!!) and i wanted to ask. how do you make writer friends especially if you're a bit younger? i have a. irrational fear of eventually publishing and having to reconcile my friends w/ family because my writing is queercoded and i really don't want to have that conversation with family yet 💀 i do want to eventually have my story Out but thinking about it makes me feel bad

anon, i wish i could give you a hug. i’ve been there. it’s really hard. not all family stories have happy endings, but some do. mine didn’t, so i can’t weigh in on that besides to say that it has been infinitely more freeing to exist as i am. take that with a grain (or a pinch or a tablespoon or two) of salt.

i personally was a writeblr lurker for literal years before i started posting and making friends at 20, so i can’t speak to making friends online as a younger person, so i’m calling on @unlicensedmortician and @ghostcasket (and perhaps @lothloriien and @inseptember if you have any insights?) to weigh in as friends of mine who started finding community young.

i’ll reblog their responses whenever they respond!

in the meantime: my general advice for making writer friends here is to be the cheerleader you’d like to have. it might feel a little transactional at first, but the trick is to not go into it expecting reciprocity. think someone’s project is interesting? tell them. like the way they write? hop in their inbox. there are thousands of incredible projects on here; it’s the easiest thing in the world to get excited, and it’s free to tell people you like what they do.

i also have a discord server for young writers! feel free to shoot me a DM here if you’d like an invite! (it’s open and this applies to anyone, no restrictions. i love the little community in there, they brighten my day every day)

lastly, just know you’re not alone. there are so many more of us out here than you can imagine. balancing your queerness with your family can be an exhausting and painful journey, but you’re not the first to walk it, and you won’t be the last. we carry each other through it.

oh my gosh, thank you so much my sweet sweet anon! (I am giving you a little smooch on your forehead). I am glad you're enjoying Weave and Woods! I had a very busy June, but I am planning on updating both Weave and Woods and The Bard and the Blade more regularly - once every 2 weeks at most, alternating (that's the plan anyway!)

And OH BOY can I recommend bg3 fanfic! Here are just a few of my current favorites with unique ideas/less hits:

Let Me Recite Their Demise by BestSandwichEver Gale Dekarios, hero of Faerun and god of ambition, winds up in a decidedly mortal form at Withers’ big reunion party. Astarion, resplendent in his Ascended Vampire form, is as vicious and jealous as his predecessor was, leaving his consort Calliope helpless and alone. Calliope and Gale find themselves forced to patch up the wounds left by Gale’s betrayal in order to solve both their problems, but will either of them live to see the final victory? This one just finished today and I am weepy about it. I loved this fic so much. An interesting take on Ascended Astarion, but the relationship between Calliope and Gale is chefs kiss. I don't know if the author has a Tumblr, or I would link it!

Broken Horizons by CheerySmores What would happen if the orb detonated post game? This is a pretty new fanfic but I love the premise and the main character, Ciri. The writing is beautiful and I can't wait to see how everything gets resolved - and I hope it does! (You can follow the author here @ponder-the-orb)

The Stars of Simril by Jourdane A one-shot, but one of the most beautiful pieces of writing I've ever read. I recommend reading everything but this author, her writing style is so poetic and lovely. (And if you don't already, follow her @sorceresssundries)

In Fathoms Below by @mumms-the-word A Disney's Atlantis-inspired AU. So creative and engaging. I love seeing the blend of the two properties - it works so well!

Pure Magic by purpleastersinseptember I'm not usually big on modern AUs, but this one really works for me. I also like that there are two Tavs who are twins, and both are really likable. This is a newer fic as well. (The author is also on Tumblr @purpleasters-inseptember)

Thorns and All by tavelspeth The story of Elspeth and Gale through the in game events. I love seeing how everyone takes the same game beats and makes them their own. This is a brand new fic so it has less hits, but I'd love it to see more traction. I love the author's Tav, Elspeth, who is arguably one of the hottest Tavs in existence. (You can also follow her here, her Tumblr is @elspethdekarios)

I could go on and on and on, but I am also realizing that all the fic I read is pretty much Gale x Tav. I recommend following @stories-from-the-sword-coast for other recommendations! I've seen fics from many of the characters posted already.

I did this for Catrin, and if you’re reading Planar Tears right now it probably seems like it doesn’t make sense, given that she’s fighting with her feelings for Rolan. But… I think that although her feelings are more dramatic than this, she does perceive love to be a thing you do, a choice to be with someone over and over, and once she acknowledges that’s a choice she wants to make, well, we’ll see.
