okay, they're technically not paper pals (alas i could not find paper plates small enough), but they're DCA paper dolls! you can find the image files in the Google Drive below and you can download em, print em out, cut and glue em together, and enjoy!

Please do not repost, alter and post, or sell these templates. I made them freely available so everyone can have fun making silly paper dolls!

each DCA has their own printout with all the parts of the dolls. there's also a page of optional silly upgrades, with different styles of faceplates. Each printout comes in a coloured version and a black & white version for friends who want to colour their own DCA paper pal, or for those of us (like me) who lack a colour printer 😂

if you need some help constructing them, i've written up step-by-step instructions with pictures included here (also included the drive linked above!):

i've also temporarily opened up my ask box for questions about the dolls. i will try to get to them as soon as i can!

as someone of read-the-wicked-book-when-i-was-too-young-and-only-remembered-the-weird-sex-parts experience, it's been really interesting to reflect on certain reputations the book has taken on in the fandom in the decades since the musicals release. for a long time it felt like it was just kind of the accepted narrative that elphaba went insane bc fiyero died, and for more recent readers ive seen discussion of whether the books politics are leftist enough; both of which i think are oversimplifications.

sure, elphaba doesn't really complete any radical action successfully but isn't that the crux of her mental break down? she is someone living in a rapidly changing fascist society who has total clarity of moral vision for the ways in which disenfranchised classes are being hurt by the system who cannot for the life of her figure out a way to actually change said system on her own. and fiyero's death is a part of that without a doubt but i don't think its the only contributing factor in her own death. she is thwarted at an approaching cosmic level (shout out to any yackle heads in the building) at every turn: her intellectual questioning coincides with doctor dillamond's murder, her first attempt at a more democratic approach by negotiating with the wizard are a complete flop and she loses one of her most important allies in the process, her turn to more extreme methods are a bust when she can't bring herself to potentially harm children which domino effects into fiyero's death, she abandons kiamo ko at a critical moment and returns to find sarima and her family have been captured, literally all of her familiars save the monkeys get killed trying to stop dorothy, etc etc. and throughout the book we run into countless people who's positioning to what's happening politically is basically "if i don't look at it it's not there and can't hurt me," even if they are otherwise relatively kind and well-meaning people

if anything, i think the book is arguing that inaction (or faulty action) in times of great political peril whether by choice, acquiescence, or circumstance is ultimately completely poisonous to the self and others. and as an american (sorry) living through uncertain political times i think a story about someone who goes insane because they watch the news and understand what is going on and what is coming is going to be horrible but feel helpless to stop it is um VERY topical........

Tagged by @inquisimer today and @shivunin ages ago (hi Mo, you're tagged back!), thank you both so much! <3 I was away or submerged by work. What I have is not anything Dragon Age, but I hope you'll like it anyway...

Some Whale AU! I had the luck of having bought a wonderful book that turned out to be SO USEFUL for this story. it's "Hen Frigates - Wives of Merchant Captains Under Sail" by Joan Druett. I highly suggest it to anyone interested in the Victorian Era, or who thinks that women in the XIX century did nothing at all. Well, it allowed me, amongst genuine laughters and enthusiasm, to confirm the type of ship I need, the size of the crew I need to plan and design... And the fact that yes, women were sailing. Knew how to. A full female crew would be unconventional but not impossible, particularly in the Edwardian Age, when all captains' daughter who grew up climbing on riggings were grown. Here it's 4 members of my crew. With Priscilla who got promoted as captain, because I love her and I wanted to have her in a story I love as much.

A very Raina-coded sketchbook tour. One of my proposition for this year was to dedicate some time to studying. And I'm committing to it. This is the work of a month of sketching during breakfast. Those on the recycled paper are random doodles, and a couple of science bros science bro-ing. White paper is for study, and it's "Line and Form" by Walter Crane, a """visual design""" handbook from 1901, and a 100 faces challenge I finished today and I have mixed feelings about (I needed to exercise with east-asian faces! but I would have liked... just one old lady. One. Not all models or little girls, you know). Just to show that there's no magic talent behind art, there's just commitment and hard work.

Hi for anyone curious about the talent swaps in my talent swap au fic… here’s the list :)

I uh actually have a lot of thoughts on these and as to why I choose each one and how it fits them on varying levels of “haha funny” to “this would fit so well” to “this would make them worse.”

I think some of these talents are so life changing for these characters that the entire plot changes so yeah. Also while I tried to keep everyone’s essence some characters are very different. Even in just the chapter I’ve posted, Ingrid is more headstrong and leader-like, while Jean still is he takes a backseat to more commanding figures like Ingrid or Eloise since he only has experience with his streams.

Eloise herself is also… she is still quite soft spoken in normal situations but she becomes a completely different person in the court room and actually scares people sometimes. On the flipside, Wolfgang is far more soft spoken and even more passive than in game, he follows the leader, ESPECIALLY ELOISE. Because hmmm… lawyer woman? I wonder who that reminds him of?

And Grace is even more of a little shit as the Ultimate Debater I love her she gets funnier. It seems weird that Grace would be able to debate calmly, but she surprisingly is as long as nobody takes personal shots in a debate. Then she starts dishing back the shots with even more bite.

You will notice more will the next chapter I’m working on but Damon is also very different. He’s far less egotistical about his talent, although still brags about it when questioned on it, and he is far more judgmental and distrustful of people than he is even in game, and this extends to the slightly more open Eva Tsunaka. Who jumps to pretending to be the Ultimate Psychologist to cover up her “embarrassing talent” ( she’s actually super good at reading and pairing people and has an extensive interest in Psychology when it comes to romance. She has that pattern recognition autism that makes her a great Matchmaker! )

Damon doesn’t actually really end up gravitating towards anyone because everyone is either beneath him, already hates him because they know who he is, or they know who he is and he doesn’t want to interact personally with fans and he’s just a massive dickhead in general. Chapter 1 is most similar to the game and reuses a lot of game dialogue directly, but by chapter 3 or 4 this fic will use little to none. Damon really only begins bonding with Kai because they are forced to room together, which Damon wouldn’t even entertain if he wasn’t threatened by Eloise basically lol.

Yeah rewatching this fifth season of Camp Cretaceous, holy crap is Daniel Kon the absolute Most Evil villain in the franchise, this is the Darkest it gets, shut up with your petty complaints about this arc, casuals, the thematic elements are horrifying.
